Governor Palin's Message to Blanche Lincoln; UPDATED: NRSC Weighs In on Lincoln's Decision

In response to Senator Lincoln's decision to vote in favor of cloture, Governor Palin tweets the following:

Not sure I can convince Sen. Lincoln to vote no - but will do everything in my pwr to convince my friends in Arkansas to vote against her.

Senator Lincoln is up for re-election in Arkansas in 2010. Only 29% of Arkansans support Obama's healthcare plan.

Update by Doug: (H/T Josh Painter) Via Kathryn Jean Lopez at National Review:

The National Republican Senatorial Committee has this out now:

Lincoln To Cast 60th Vote For Obama’s $2.5 Trillion Government Health Care Takeover.

[...]

“Blanche Lincoln’s vote tonight is unequivocally a vote in favor of President Obama’s $2.5 trillion government-run health care plan.

“Obviously the pressure from the left wing of her party finally got to Blanche Lincoln. She not only reversed her previous statements that a government-run plan was too costly, but she completely ignored the increasing unemployment rate in her state and the growing national deficit when she announced that she will cast the 60th vote in favor of President Obama’s costly health care plan tonight.

“There’s no doubt that this vote will be a critical issue for Senator Lincoln as she embarks on her uphill re-election bid, and the people of Arkansas will have an opportunity to hold her accountable when they cast their ballots next November.”

Predicted this. I just didn't see Lincoln (D-AR) as having any proverbial "balls" to do something which ultimately would have saved her career.

I am so glad Sarah has called her out. Lincoln exemplifies the grandstanding nonsense of Washington.

I can see Sarah campaigning in Arkansas in the not-too-distant future.

I wrote this on another thread:

Isn't it ironic that it was a Lincoln who was instrumental in freeing the slaves and it will be another Lincoln whose vote will lead to us to becoming shackled and enslaved!

Doug Brady, November 21, 2009 3:24 PM

Does the GOP have a candidate yet to run against her?

Mark R-CA, November 21, 2009 3:28 PM

Yes, Gilbert Baker, who is polling either ahead of Lincoln, or as in the latest poll, is only 2 points behind (within margin of error)

Money Maven, November 21, 2009 3:30 PM

Meanwhile Huckabee is out trying to play the sympathy vote for Obama by blaming republicans for critizing him. Huckabee is so jealous of Palin support. Where was Huckabee when Palin and her family were ridiculed 24/7.

Mark R-CA, November 21, 2009 3:32 PM

But, Lipstick, they will fine you if you're not paying into the system. Avoiding that fine will lead to jail time.

techno, November 21, 2009 3:33 PM

Does anybody really believe that the Obama administration is stupid or naive?

These thugs are ruthless and relentless and they know exactly what they need to do to achieve their dream, the establishment of a socialist, totalitarian government that Democrats control in perpetuity, regardless of whether elections are held every two years or not.

Mark R-CA, November 21, 2009 3:34 PM

Huckabee is disgusting. I have forever lost my respect for him after the stupid stunts he pulled last year (character assassinating Romney for being Mormon, delaying the primaries by not dropping out when it was obvious McCain was going to win the nomination, etc) No wonder the Left likes him. He is weak.

techno, November 21, 2009 3:42 PM

Huckabee is Mccain redux. I had this political theory a couple of months ago, at the time it sounded far-fetched, but it is looking more viable every day. It is that Huckabee, on seeing Romney faltering for several months in the PPP poll among Republicans and conservatives and Pawlenty really not gaining any traction, might be trying to become the 'establishment' candidate. I know, I know this sounds inconceivable in because of Huckabee's religious roots and evangelical support, but I think the way he may be seeing it now is that GOP establishment may have no other choice but to turn to Huckabee to stop Palin. Sure somebody could become a dark horse but Huckabee is smart-he is going to do all he can to keep anybody but Romney and Pawlenty from gaining any traction so by the process of elimination the GOP elites have to turn reluctantly to the Huckster, because they despise Sarah so greatly.

Huckabee also knows how McCain won last time, so by placing nice with Obama he is following the maverick's playbook to a tee. Watch for Huck down the road favor amnesty and climate change and to support the issues that McCain advocates.

Of course if Romney rebounds then this strategy goes out the window, but as of now Romney doesn't appear to be in good shape with the base with is usually the kiss of death for any GOP candidate for POTUS.

Mark R-CA, November 21, 2009 3:46 PM

I think many of us, myself included, are willing to go to jail.

Mark R-CA, November 21, 2009 3:49 PM

This is exactly why Huckabee felt the need to attack Romney *again* in his latest book. Your theory is spot on. There is also a rumor that ScHmuckabee is turning pro life groups against Palin. Bottom line: I do not trust him. He is 2 faced. Did you see Ann Coulter call him out in his own show a few months ago? His reaction to Ann was telling.

Money Maven, November 21, 2009 3:55 PM

ANd when the media start the talking points about how angry republicans are to Obama, Nazi signs in crowd crap ect, good ole huckster want them portray it as a Palin crowd. He is secretly trying to stab Palin in her back.

yogi41, November 21, 2009 3:55 PM

Hear, hear!

I think there will be many Americans that will join together in a lawsuit against this, as it is clearly unconstitutional. That's one way to stall this monster, should it pass. Lawsuits galore, until it goes to the Supreme Court.

Victoria, November 21, 2009 4:05 PM

It is so disheartening to see that Congress members feel no obligation to represent the will of the people who elected them. Their only allegiance is to their political party and themselves. I also believe that Senator Lincoln was promised a high ranking position if she ultimately does not get re-elected. The phrase "the will of the people" is becoming meaningless.

TangledThorns, November 21, 2009 4:08 PM

I think many Democrats in Congress understand their careers will end next year so they're just pulling a political kamikaze. Maybe hard to stop at this point. The only thing we'll gain is majorities again.

Sarah is flustered...
She did not even finish her sentence stating she is appealing to Sen. Lincoln when in the same breath she is threatening to help to unseat her.
The one that really needs to be unseated is Senator Reid, then she can go after Lincoln.

In a perverse way I am happy this is happening. Sarah is getting flustered. She is seeing in what dire straits we are and I am convinced she will campaing and stomp for conservative candidates and against pro-healthcare pro-cap and trade candidates in 2010. I don't think she could any longer live with herself if she didn't, and simply live a well deserved wealthy happy life in 'retirement' with no drama. The USA is one of her cubs too and if you poke it enough I am sure she will take a swipe at you. Come on Democrats! keep poking, and wake up this grizzly and the rest of the nation from hibernation!.

Lakerfanalways, November 21, 2009 4:14 PM

Dont you understand..the Dems dont care about losing seats in 2010..remember what Carville said..40 years of Democrat power..this is their plan..so what, a few Dems lose their hosue and senate seat, they will have power FOREVER which is exactly what they want.this isnt about health care, this is about unlimited power and redistribution of wealth..taking from the middle class and giving it to the poor so they will vote Dem

an lifelong democrat-soon-2-B-independent, November 21, 2009 4:14 PM

How the heck would they even be able to implement this crappy plan?/

over 29 state legislatures have stated they are NOT implementing a mandate and will not go along with this crap of a plan.

and then seriosuly, a cop is going to come to you house and arrest you for not having ration-care? SERIOUSLY??? Heck the cops will join us in the protest.

About the courts, you're correct about that at the state level. However, the people can appeal these decisions until it reaches the Supreme Court. Imagine how long that will take, but I also know that there are 5 judges on that court that can clearly see this is as unconstitutional: Alito, Thomas, Roberts, Scalia and Kennedy.

MarkRNY, November 21, 2009 4:19 PM

Cuda Mode!

This was a given. Only those who make a living in the Beltway at predicting these things didn't see it coming (and they have the stones to accept a paycheck with a straight face).

It's not over. It's just going to get a lot more intense. Even if this catastrophe is put into law, I don't agree that it can't be dismantled. It'll take a very special leader to get that done though...I wonder who?...

Still a few stages left. Now's the time to make their lives miserable. Ruin their Holiday! (whatever the hell heathen Holiday they celebrate). They're going to push back with everything they've got, so get ready. Want to get fired up?? Listen to Levin! Keep an eye on Sarah! Imagine Obama's face grinning (you'll need a strong stomach there).

Some guy is live-blogging Glenn's appearance at The Villages, where he is revealing his plan. Apparently, he's calling for a destruction of the 2-party system. He said he's going to have a convention in Orlando (no date) and a final one at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28th, 2010. The blogging is all over the place, so I can't grasp any specifics, but it sounds like he may be starting a 3rd party?

Anti-Abortion Group to Protest Palin

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2009/11/american-right-to-life-abortion-protest-sarah-palin

I found the following info at Free Republic about this American Right to Life group:
wonder how much they’re being paid by MoveOn.org and/or George Soros, David Axelrod, to name a few likely suspects.
Or Mike Huckabee. From Race42012:
Huckabee's Iowa Network Attacks Palin
__________________________________
Race42012 began investigating the political organization, American Right to Life (a.k.a. Huckabee’s Iowa firewall) in March of this year, exposing their planned campaign to smear Governor Romney ahead of the 2012 campaign.
Tommy Oliver highlighted the vicious anti-Mormon bigotry this Huckabee-aligned group has engaged in. In September of this year, Matt Lewis from Politics Daily further highlighted their campaign to discredit Governor Romney by targeting those who are friendly towards the former MA Governor.
Steve Deace and the radicals at American Right to Life have now turned their sites away from Governor Romney and on to Governor Palin.
In a release, ARTL has made the following accusations against Governor Palin;
States can Kill Children in Palin’s America

Respects Opinions to Kill Children

Thinks some Kids must be Killed:
Uses Liberal, Socialist Terminology

Sarah Palin Continues to be a Ratings Draw for NetworksBy Chris Ariens on Nov 21, 2009 03:58 PM

A week of Sarah Palin interviews began Monday on Oprah and culminated last night on "20/20," and in between national TV interviews with Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly with each drawing huge ratings.
Oprah Winfrey had her highest-rated show in two years with the Palin interview Monday.
• Wednesday's "Hannity", featuring Palin, was the second most-watched show of the year for the Fox News host with 4.2M Total Viewers.
• Thursday's O'Reilly interview with Palin drew 4.12M Total Viewers.
• And last night Barbara Walters' interview with former VP nominee won the 10 o'clock hour in Total Viewers, A18-49 and A25-54. It was the second-biggest audience for "20/20" in the last eight months.
And the interviews will continue next week. Part III of O'Reilly's interview is set for Monday.

TSM Admin, November 21, 2009 5:02 PM

Exactly. I have thought (maybe not totally right, but), that if they had left her alone, she might have been content to go back to AK and serve out her term as Gov. Maybe would have done some campaigning and her book would not have come out till next Spring. But the left attacked her and got her more fired up. Sort of like US was content to stay out of WWII till Pearl Harbor.

Lets see if this is fillabustered on the final vote.

Liberman and group "says" they won't vote for the bill if it has a public option, but will they support a fillabuster in the final vote? HMMMMMMMMM. All is takes is ONE.

Methinks not in my opinion. They'll vote "yes" to allow debate (the dems have the votes to pass this if it came to a vote) but then vote "no" in the final vote....and will try to spin it as though their consciouses are clean (helping Dems the front end, yet looking "principled" on the back end).

nah, I don't think Beck is running, or will ever run, he made that explicitly clear on his radio show, HOWEVER he will be a leader that gets the republicans to adhere to conservative principles, or he will drive to make them essentially irrelevant, and the conservative party will become the new "Republican" party

yogi41, November 21, 2009 5:37 PM

Here it is, right from Glenn's page. That live-blogging was vague and I couldn't figure out what in the world "the plan" was. Well, from the letter Glenn posted, I still can't tell what he's trying to do. It doesn't sound like a 3rd party to me, but Glenn is purposely vague. He says he'll reveal more in the months ahead...

"Friends,

What an amazing few days on the road this has been. Your spirits have been high, your faith strong and your spine unbendable. I ended my multiday book tour at The Villages with what had been billed as a rally but could be better described as a candid citizen-to-citizen chat.

Today, I have stopped looking for a leader to show us the way out because I have come to realize that the only one who can truly save our country...is us. To change America's course we need to change ourselves, our expectations and our willingness to accept the unacceptable. When we refuse to allow our children to receive a trophy for participation, we are on the road to restoring the meaning of merit in our Republic. When we insist that no one is too big to fail, we will be able to learn from our mistakes, and when we demand that we are self-reliant, we will ensure that others can rely on us, not the government.

There is much to do, much to learn and time is of the essence. While I will be explaining the entire Plan over the coming weeks and months, I did want to give you a preview of some of the highlights:
- Education is key, and not just for our children. To that end, we will be conducting a series of conventions. These will be full-day experiences where you will be immersed in learning about topics ranging from self-reliance, community organizing, the economy and how to be a political force in your own neighborhood and country. The first one will be in Orlando at UCF Arena on March 27th. You will also be able to vote to have a convention in your region by clicking here.
- I have begun meeting with some of the best minds in the country that believe in limited government, maximum freedom and the values of our Founders. I am developing a 100 year plan. I know that the bipartisan corruption in Washington that has brought us to this brink and it will not be defeated easily. It will require unconventional thinking and a radical plan to restore our nation to the maximum freedoms we were supposed to have been protecting, using only the battlefield of ideas.
- All of the above will culminate in The Plan, a book that will provide specific policies, principles and, most importantly, action steps that each of us can take to play a role in this Refounding.
- On August 28, 2010, I ask you, your family and neighbors to join me at the feet of Abraham Lincoln on the National Mall for the unveiling of The Plan and the birthday of a new national movement to restore our great country."

terri, November 21, 2009 5:45 PM

I agree with Beck on alot of things..but I have to say this almost sounds like a cult or something. It just doesn't sit right with me.

he has said over and over again that he has no interest in ever being president. he has flat out denied any interest and has said over and over on the radio show that he would never even consider it. it would be very disingenuous of him to run after that.

juju, November 21, 2009 6:09 PM

No...I don't think it is cult like. I think he wants to educate people that are use to voting along party lines even when the candidate doesn't have our best interests as a top priority. He wants to promote the importance in voting for and having candidates that have our freedoms as their top priority and not just the go along to get along. It is very much like Sarah feels when she says "I will help and support anyone that has conservative beliefs regardless of their party" I think this may help Sarah a lot. His main objective is less government.

Enrigen, November 21, 2009 6:57 PM

What is wrong with him....he has no chance to win, keep writing books, and do not get into the race, please.

Sarah 2012!

A campaign swing by the Cuda would be a silver lining for sure. And she is popular here! PPP says Arkansas has more conservative independents (small "c" and small "i") than any state they've polled in so far this year. That's why I like it here. ;o)

Lincoln has been infuriating on this issue since this debate started last summer. Obamacare is overwhelmingly unpopular here. We already have a provider shortage here. Govt-run health care would be esp. disastrous for poor, rural states like ours. The senator complained tonight that 450,000 Arkansans are without insurance. Of course some opt out by choice but many others would probably qualify for Medicaid but all of the hoops they have to jump through and red tape they have to navigate is so prohibitive, it keeps them from getting the coverage they need. I know some of these people. People with chronic illnesses who are in no position physically or mentally to battle the bureaucracy. Meanwhile, others who are skilled at gaming the system get onto Medicaid no problem. It is positively maddening.

If Huckabee cared at all about the principles he claims to espouse, he'd run against Lincoln because he could beat her handily. But it's not about principle: It's about Huck and his massive ego.

Well you know why that is: The trial attorneys are getting a pass in this whole clusterfark. Not one mention of tort reform.

As Shakespeare once said, "The first thing we do is we kill all the lawyers."

Huckabee is philosophically, a Democrat/RINO/Whatever. He subscribes to the premise that government has the right to tell you how to live your life. GOP insiders want Huckabee to run against Lincoln, but his eyes are set on a presidential run. Definitely not a team player. I turn him off everytime he's on Fox.

In a way Glenn Beck's efforts to advance the conservative cause may take some heat off Sarah, and Sarah would appreciate a little less media coverage I think.
