Misc. Open Thread

Here are some random nuggets for today:

-Chris Perkins from Wilson Research Strategies writes that Governor Palin's "jaw-dropping sales indicate that many independent conservatives are shunning the popular press’ portrayal of the former Alaska Governor and are willing to look deeper at her as a possible national figure in which to rally around."

-This chart (courtesy of C4P commentator GaHanson) provides an interesting comparison of Governor Palin's book sales with the book sales of other prominent politicians. It also provides a look into which media markets Oprah received the biggest bounce from Governor Palin's appearance.

-A must-read op-ed written in the Wall Street Journal by Lon Jacobs, a pro-choice Democrat, titled "Sarah Palin and Me."

-Even Democracy Corps(D), James Carville's polling firm, has Obama under 50% with likely voters.

-I'm saddened by the news that Allen Iverson will be retiring. He was one of my favorite basketball players.

-What else is going on tonight? How 'bout them Cowboys?

Sarah & Me - what a great article and I totally agree - "safe, legal and rarrrrrrre" and never after the quickening (that's my add)

Hey friends,

I learned HTML in the past year, directly inspired by Sarah !
- I will tell you the story later, at a minimum my mother thinks its neat . . .

Have a look

Wow, surfing alot of other anti Palin web sites, this lady is really hated, it pains me to see how much she is hated, how the Rep party will not back her, its just not fair.

Sarah 2012!

Does God give us a choice ?- I think he does

really? are there a lot of them? eww i don't want to look - those people are such haters - I am not kidding anyone - I am as MEAN as they come - lol - but these people, if not just being lemmings are empty and spiteful and vindictive! They are found in all parties too. I have no pity left for the lemmings. Especially if they are STILL lemming obots! NO excuse any more. Barry is WORSE than useless, WORSE than BUSH and no one has even died (that we know of) yet. jmo.

I do believe that Sarah is her own person in the Rep. Party.
Sarah is the popular subject of discussion. Since everyone is a writer now (thanks to the Internet), and it costs next to nothing to build a blog, all kind of people eager to impress others with their intellect.

To her benefits, it helps selling the book, landing the interviews, get invitations to speak.

The dinner invitation to Billy Graham and family last week supersedes all the hater’s writings combined.
Sarah is the experienced politician. She is fine. No, she is GREAT!

this unfortunate huffpoo link is to a story where some loud mouth canadian comedienne punks Sarah by pretending to be a conservative.

Actually Sarah comes across great. She is so incredibly sincere and warm that she can't see the vile scum that are trying to humiliate her.
You can tell that security around her is pretty tight and they try and keep the loon away from Sarah.
But you guys know our Sarah. She just has to reach out to people.
She talks about common sense conservatism and helping the Canadians to change their health care system.
I think thats great!!! I mean really, if its so great why are they coming here?
I'll put an abrupt stop my rambling

Dan C, November 26, 2009 9:17 PM

As usual the huffington post (im disgusted she is greek) lies. No one was tricked. She was asked about public health care and responded. She shouted at Palin the question and Sarah responded with the right ansewr by the way.

NJBrandon, November 26, 2009 9:27 PM

As a Sixers fan, I have always felt that Iverson was an overrated selfish player.

panchita, November 26, 2009 9:27 PM

went to a knicks game in madison square garden . Saw iverson with the cornrows zipping up and down the court.
figured if i ever saw him in a dark alleyway I would drop dead of fright. It was 80 dollars per ticket. Never went to another basketball game.

panchita, November 26, 2009 9:29 PM

they are twisting it to show how foolish she is, but as you state she did respond with the right answer.

Lakerfanalways, November 26, 2009 9:33 PM

Dont worry about AI he will be back. I dont believe for a second that he is retiring. I think he just wants to be on a team that has a chance of winning a championship. He should have NEVER signed with Memphis, he knew that team has no chance of ever winning anything. If he is willing to take a paycut, he can come to the Lakers, we will welcome him with open arms and remember, its about PRACTICE man, PRACTICE..not about the game, not about the game, but practice man. practice

She tells you what she really believes, regardless of the cost, who else can you really say that about. Daniel Hannan, in the UK seems another truth teller, sadly he doesn't look like he will be P.M. The same can be said for Stockwell Day, who suffered a Sarah like onslaught, when he
ran for P.M in Canada, more than a decade ago. Obama generally says it only among select audiences of fundraisers, 'bitter clingers' or his comrades at SEIU "In favor of single payer"

I just read Sapwolfs write up from yesterday and I found it quite interesting and a lesson for C4Pers. When the press showed up he went to them. THink about it. We are better informed about Sarah than the media is. THey are going to get interviews, isn't it better if it comes from one of us. Otherwise they find Billy Bob I just want a book signed and dont know her record. Worse case is you tie them up from hitting some of these individuals. If enough do this soon all they have are interviews of individuals with the facts. They either don't run the story or have to run individuals that know the facts.

An insight into LIBERAL elites by Lee Siegel:

"As a political prospect, Palin is terrifying; as someone who embodies an American story, she is fascinating. She is Huck Finn in reverse. Instead of fleeing civilization and lighting out for the territory, she started in the territory and lit out for civilization. What she discovered is that civilization--our politics, and our media--is even more feral, less bound by morality, and more unforgiving than the wilderness she had come from. We know this dirty little secret of civilization theoretically--cynicism about everything is our American meat and milk. But we rarely come across a public person whose experience of it is so raw and uncontrolled."

"Sometimes it seems as though Palin was being punished for her realization about what passes for civilized behavior. Just because she and some of her sleaziest defenders absurdly blame her downfall on "liberal persecution" doesn't mean that liberals didn't seize on her outsiderness once she stumbled and pounce all over her."

"True outsiders often discombobulate the liberal mind. THE SOURCE OF LIBERAL VALUES IS THE IDEA THAT LIFE'S QUICK CHANGES MAKE US ALL FUNDAMENTALLY OUTSIDERS, AND THAT ANY SOCIAL AND POLITICAL ARRANGEMENT HAS TO TAKE THE OUTSIDER, NOT THE COZY INSIDER, AS ITS MORAL STARTING POINT. But powerful liberals are rarely outsiders, and so true outsiders shake their sense of self. Plenty of liberals must have felt a few minutes of alarm when Sarah Palin first appeared on the scene and challenged their authenticity. Then she imploded, and they tore her apart, perhaps in savage relief at finding their virtuous identities still intact."

techno, November 27, 2009 4:43 AM

When in doubt about which political strategy to pursue, fall back on a tried-and-true one: divide and conquer.

This is simply a futile effort to divide the libertarian forces from the conservative forces. But it simply is not going to work. Beck is not interested in running for office and Sarah respects what Beck does on TV and radio. Do you remember Sarah posted on her Facebook she would be watching a certain Beck's program and she recommended the Palinistas do as well.

Interesting that Tommy makes note of "independent conservatives" now taking a second look at Sarah Palin, because this is exactly how I saw Palin's rebound or surge occurring-independent conservative, many former conservative Republicans, looking for a new "home" and realizing that after reading or hearing about Going Rogue that Sarah filled the bill.

What frightens Obama and the Dems are two-fold:

1) That Sarah can unite the conservative movement (Republicans, independents, Reagan Democrats and evangelicals)

2) That "white" antipathy towards Obama and his agenda becomes so heightened and filled with conviction that Sarah can act as a catalyst and rally Anglo-Saxons behind one goal-kicking Obama and the Democrats out of office

White voters make up about 74% of the electorate. It doesn't matter if Obama gets 97% of the black vote and 2/3 of the Hispanic vote if Sarah can get from 60%-65% of the white vote supporting her.

This was in Columbus. She was thrown out trying to ask the question the first time and then she hid out in the loading dock behind the store and Sarah actually walked little distance from the bus to answer this question. Sapwolf and I were there to watch her board the bus, in fact you can hear my yelling in the background :)
I think she answered the question appropriately AND I'm glad to know that those who wouldn't usually listen to her are getting to hear a genuine answer given with genuine care from her. There are some custody issues with taking Tripp out of the state for Bristol. AK has some different laws then many states. There are also some issues with public events with Tripp, I'm sure. If Bristol doesn't want Levi parading Tripp around through all of his photo shoots and publicity stunts, then she needs to not do the same.

I don't blame Todd for not wanting to leave his daughters alone in Wasilla with the press, and the Johnston's and all of the security issues. I also think they have a bunch of construction taking place on their property that he is likely overseeing.

Beck is in the tank for Sarah, BUT he doesn't want her to be stuck to his image, so he doesn't fawn over her. This is good as the liberals are all over making a mockery of him, and Sarah is working hard to broaden her support beyond the base. Indy's are not all keen on Beck.

He said weeks ago he was gonna have her on later towards the end. He thought she was getting plenty of media attention and he was busy catching up on material he wanted to get out there after he missed a week because he had his appendix emergently removed.

Her not being on the show was not a snub- it's just gonna happen late.

Bristol and Willow were in Washington, you can see them in one of the videos of the 5k and Tripp is there in the stroller next to Trig... According to Sarah, Todd stayed home to "fix the roof" which yes is kind of strange but I don't know.

thanks.. and agree... might not Sarah's resignation be included?.. I say that because of the graph someone posted the other day showing, I think internet activity related to Gov. Palin, which spiked tremendously during July... in other words just the interest shown in anything Sarah attracts great numbers and some overall benefit to conservatism.... maybe Im off base to what you intended... just a thought.

People are not getting it as a joke. Some commenters/haters even think Sarah actually said she wanted Beck as her VP and he dissed her. They think she made another gaffe.

Beck may be in the tank for her. But he's got a big mouth. Sarah should distance herself from him. He's going to cause her a lot of trouble in the future, "inadvertently". Let Beck do his thing attacking Obama. But I hope Sarah doesn't get too cozy with him.

Beck's also pushing for a third party, and I don't think Sarah wants that. She mentioned going on Beck's show in her initial pre-release FB, but hasn't yet. I think that's a good move. Though it's odd that I don't think he's even reviewed her book.

I hope they don't have some big thing planned together. He needs to operate on his own; I think he's getting a little too big too fast IMO.

I hope Sarah keeps herself separate from some of his movements, like "the Plan."

I've never heard that term "emergently removed." I like it. :)
