NYT Concerned About Gratitude....

Sweet......in Commentary John Podhoretz kicks that woman from the NYT books page with the nasty smell under her nose straight into touch.....

As for the sudden concern about whether Palin was “ungrateful,” what Kakutani and others seem to believe is that she should act like one of those people in a T-shirt two sizes too small for them who are plucked from the audience of The Price is Right to bid on the showcase items. Palin did not have her name plucked from a hat. She was one of 22 Republican governors — and the only woman among them, and someone with a 70 percent approval rating in her home state besides.
But of course the whole ingratitude trope is wildly disingenuous. The fact that Kakutani, and others like her, are suddenly concerned with Sarah Palin’s political manners is another mark of the fact that she is being graded on a reverse curve. If she has done it, by definition, it was done wrong.

Yeah, the NYT really bugs me, that's why I don't read it.  I really don't care what they think.  I'll read the book myself, thank you.

gardunne63,  November 16, 2009 11:33 AM

I love Podhoretz and miss his columns for the NY Post.  I usually read "Commentary" in print but will have to remember to check out its web site regularly.

IBD headline - "Sarah Palin discovers the cure for cancer."

NY Times - cancer?  Big deal!  Silly girl, we're all about heart disease now.

By July 2008, Sarah Palin had accomplished more as Governor than any other Governor in America. She did it with grace and style and overwhelming popularity from Alaskans who were not in the good old boy orbit, or going to jail.

She was the obvious choice by March 2008, when McCain should have picked her and started preparing. But, he was to busy doing... something.

McCain was lucky she consented to do it.

Money Maven,  November 16, 2009 11:48 AM

JUst ignore all these media types who think they can predict Sarah Palin political future.  When SARAHPAC reaches $50 million, everyone will stat to take her seriously.  It takes a lot of money to run for president. Keep contributing to SARAHPAC. I rememeber before Hilalry Committed to running her PAc had accumulated over $60 million.

Imagine if all her fans give $10 once a month until 2011.  Her PAc would be a financial behemoth.

New poll on Sarah.

ROFL

<p>"Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Republican voters say former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin shares the values of most GOP voters throughout the nation.
</p><p>A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 21% of Republican voters disagree and think the 2008 vice presidential candidate does not share their values. Twenty percent (20%) are undecided.
</p><p>By contrast, 74% of Republicans say their party’s representatives in Congress have lost touch with GOP voters nationwide over the past several years. Only 18% of Republican voters believe their elected officials have done a good job representing the base.
</p><p>The findings in these two surveys highlight the political debate within the Republican Party. Party leaders worry that Palin is pushing the GOP too far to the right to win general elections by aligning herself with Tea Party voters frustrated with both parties in Washington and the big government policies they have produced.
</p><p>Still, just 18% of Republicans - and 26% of voters nationwide - see Palin as a divisive force within the GOP. A plurality believes Palin is representative of a new direction for the Republican Party. That view is held by 57% of Republicans and 41% of all voters. A plurality of Democrats aren’t sure what to think of Palin’s role within the opposing party.

Trivia question of the day - 20% of voters equals how many readers?

Can they print 10,000,000 more by Christmas?

KeeleyH,  November 16, 2009 12:13 PM

Is this a poll on Republican voters or ALL voters?

MarkRNY,  November 16, 2009 12:15 PM

The most ridiculous question in the country right now is "Is Sarah Palin a viable candidate", as they cut their own throats to get an interview with her, stalk her, etc. By discussing this ad-nauseum they answer their own monumentally dumb question.

A better question would be "Is Obama going to be a viable candidate in 12".

MarkRNY,  November 16, 2009 12:24 PM

There ya go.

I wouldn't pay much attention to any polls yet, but Ras is the best and this is a good poll question.

Another thing to keep in mind is that self identified Repubs are on the decline and many who still identify themselves as Republicans are "moderate" left overs. Ask this question to people who identify themselves as Conservatives (the biggest single group in the country) and it would be closer to 99.99 %.

That's why so many polls are flawed. If I got a call asking if I were a Republican I'd say "Hell no!". I'm a Conservative", and the polster would pass me by. I'll join the Repub Party after Sarah takes over and cleans house.

Deidre,  November 16, 2009 12:27 PM

Rush is making fun of AP fact-checking Palin's book!  LOL!!  Priceless

TexMex,  November 16, 2009 12:27 PM

They conducted a poll on whether people would read a certain politician's book?

This lady is irrelevant....

Like Reagan.

Like...um... she's a snowbilly don't look at her!

FAIL

GAHanson,  November 16, 2009 12:35 PM

If 20 percent of all those who voted in 2008 read her book, that would be about 22 million.  Even if only 25 percent buy her book, as opposed to checking it out of the library, that would still be just over 5 million copies, and that, would set a new worlds record for a political memoir.  5 million would pass Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, 0bama and Ted Kennedy, COMBINED.

Let's not get our hopes up, but I honestly do believe Going Rogue will set a few records along the way, and play a major role her Gov. Palin's future.

OldDude,  November 16, 2009 1:13 PM

Hey, Rush! Great smackdown of the AP "fact" checkers!  Here's additional information from the editors of Conservatives4Palin website.  This is a great example of citizen journalists showing the main stream media how to actually investigate and document allegations!  Remember the good old days before the watchdogs became lapdogs?!! OldDude in Rio Vista, California (not to be confused with Rio Linda!)

Recovering Democrat,  November 16, 2009 1:17 PM

They just unearthed an old Bob Scheiffer CBS commentary in the basement! It was in June 1990, and apparently he was providing some news comments on Michael Jordan's future. He's a big basketball fan, apparently. Here's my unofficial transcript of the little-remembered broadcast. It's just uncanny!

SCHIEFFER: I think Michael Jordan is going to sell a lot of Gatorade and shoes. I think he’ll be a great attraction, you know, as an amusement....But I can’t imagine that he has much future as an NBA champion. I really don’t. He can score a lot of points, but he's just not in the same league as Larry Bird or Isiah Thomas. He's whining now about the Bad Boys who applied those Jordan Rules on him and his own coaches. I don’t think it’s going to work.... It’s kind of like a baseball player blaming the other team or the bat boy or something. After losing in the playoffs for 8 straight years, my guess is Jordan is not ever going to win an NBA championship. I don’t think he'll get that far.”

Wow, I guess all we can say, is "Thanks for the information, Bob!"

Good points.  However, she was not the only woman Governor.  Both Governors Lingle of HI and Rell of CT are women.  Just a minor quibble.

Also, the Rasmussen question has been itled "shares their vales" but he was really asking if she shares the values of GOP voters at large, a slightly different question than does she share your values.

Still, not a bad result.  I still think these polls are way too early  If she were to run and spend 6 months to a year campaigning and interacting with and meeting people every day or close to it, doing the retail politics thing, I have confidence she'd do just fine.  That will be the key.  Especially in early states.

Or we can try this, a NYT description of GOP campaign events in NH as of Oct, 2007, a year into the campaign:
While both men draw approving crowds, they typically number in the DOZENS, MUCH SMALLER than the mega-events the leading Democrats often hold. Both Mr. Romney and Mr. Giuliani found themselves this week speaking before RATHER SUBDUED audiences filled with many people who have yet to make up their minds.

Maybe that'll do the trick.  Subuded crowds in the dozens. After 9+ months of campaigning.  After 4 yrs as Governor of the adjacent state and vastly outspending the competition.

Andrea Mitchell read this on her show today.   Video anyone?

narciso,  November 16, 2009 1:44 PM

I think Schieffer is projecting from his own situation, he brought in better ratings than Rather for a time, yet they replaced him with Couric who manifestly isn't getting it done, and yet they still keep
her on, Who's been driving the debate of health care, cap n trade, et al

manajordan,  November 16, 2009 2:47 PM

Holy Cow! Thanks AKReport. I followed the link on gop12 to the Rassmussen report. The link for that is http://tinyurl.com/yh3tfbw

I was really surprised by the ABC poll having her at 42 (or was it 43) I thought that was really good for ABC. This new Rass. one confirms she is moving on up

GAHanson,  November 16, 2009 2:53 PM

51 percent favorable, hmmm, that's not what the ABC/WaPo poll shows.  They show that one one single person anywhere in the world could be found that had a positive opinion of Gov. Palin.  Rasmussen also shows that 22 percent of registered voters said they were going to read Going Rogue.  I find that hard to believe, but if it is true, that would be about 25 million people.

Indemind,  November 16, 2009 2:54 PM

GAHanson,  November 16, 2009 3:22 PM

I just heard a guy on NPR talking about the improving economy, and he specificially sited increased book sales over the last month.  Since Going Rogue is #1 in all books, I'd say Palin has been responsible for a large part of those book sales.

Beehive,  November 16, 2009 3:28 PM

Beehive,  November 16, 2009 3:32 PM

Oh that is sweet!!! Now she's going to hound the Guv to get an autographed copy so she can frame it.

I can see it now. Mitchell pulling up along side the bus. Shouting "Please, I need to speak to the governor. Pull this thing over."

BetseyRoss,  November 16, 2009 4:12 PM

I loved this.  Poor Andrea Mitchell.  She gets to cover Sarah and you just have to know it is killing her.  I'll never forget her "sucked a lemon" look while interviewing Rudy at the Republican convention in MN.  He was glowing and Andrea looked as if she had been shot.  LOL
