Open Thread

It appears that Adrienne is helping Governor Palin in Rochester. Palin has arrived in upstate New York as well. If you went to the Washington, PA or the Rochester, NY book signing, send us your thoughts of the event. Adrienne is providing details here.

Meanwhile, there is a cloture vote to enable debate on Obama's healthcare plan tonight in the Senate. Joe Biden is also giving a speech in Iowa at the Democrat party's Jefferson-Jackson dinner tonight.

John McCain agrees with Governor Palin that "'political correctness' played a role in preventing concerns about the alleged Fort Hood gunman from reaching the right people."

Rudy Guiliani was spotted reading Going Rogue.

Looking back at the questions/predictions thread from the 10th (you can tell I really admire the person who came up with this idea), #4 and #9 have come true. #1 has as well.

What else is going on tonight?

Update by Doug: Before heading to Rochester tonight, Governor Palin was at the Sam's Club today in Washington, PA. According to Kathie O. Warco of the Observer-Reporter, thousands stood in line this morning including many who stayed all night. Pictures from today's book signing here, here and here.

Update by Mel: Coverage from the local paper in Rochester, NY here.

So it begins....

Investigation under way into threat on Fort Benning<span>

By <span>Christian Boone</span> and <span>Mashaun D. Simon</span>
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
</span><span><span>2:52 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009 </span></span>

Few details emerged Saturday on a reported threat at Fort Benning.
Thursday a solider found a suspicious package and a note threatening a massacre similar to the Nov. 5 attack at Fort Hood, Texas, Elsie Jackson, post spokeswoman at Fort Benning confirmed Saturday.
The anonymous note and package --  reported by The Army Times as a box of 20 hollow-point bullets -- were found Thursday morning outside a motor pool area at Fort Benning, located near Columbus.
"There may be an update Monday," said Jackson Saturday. "But at this time there is an ongoing investigation of the incident."
The discovery coincided with a visit from Gen. David Petraeus, commander of U.S. Central Command, who was in town for Officer Candidate School graduation. The threat prompted a criminal investigation and greater police presence on the Army base, the Army Times reports.
According to a witness on the scene, a box of 20 hollow-point shells and a handwritten note were found under the 197th Infantry Training Brigade.
“The note said ‘tell the commanding general to call off all charges or there will be a re-enactment of Fort Hood,’ ” a witness told Army Times. Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan is charged in the Nov. 5 shooting deaths of 13 fellow service members.
The newspaper, which serves an audience of Army personnel, active and retired, said military police acted quickly on the threat, cordoning off a 20-foot perimeter around the box.
“They’re talking with anyone with a pending [Uniform Code of Military Justice] charge and people who are getting chaptered out to see if they can find out who it is,” the witness told the Army Times.
Fort Benning officials refused comment on the specifics of the letter but confirmed  “an ongoing investigation into a general threat at Fort Benning.”
“A suspicious package and note were found,” Jackson said. “The soldier notified a noncommissioned officer, who alerted 911. The area was secured as is normal in these types of incidents.”
Soldiers in the unit are being questioned about the threat, the witness told the Army Times. The Kelley Hill area of Fort Benning was on lockdown for part of the day Friday, according to the witness, who noted an increase in military police patrols on the post.
The Fort Benning spokeswoman said “appropriate force protection measures are in place while an investigation is underway to determine if this is a viable threat.”

HOLY COW!!!  I am going to start catching up on three days worth of interviews and articles and C4P comments.  I missed all the barbarian chatter this week and am looking forward to seeing what you all have been up to!

Thanks for posting updates and pics on twitter!

Take is slow and easy or you will go on brain sizzle if you try to catch up all at once.

Dan C,  November 21, 2009 5:58 PM

Good for Adrienne. She rocks too.
On another note, God I hope they stop this healthcare bill, whether it is this 60 vote threshold, or the next one.

techno,  November 21, 2009 6:04 PM

Since we are on the eve of the 'passage' of the healthcare monstrosity commonly known as Obamacare (actually to begin debate) I thought it would be timely to solicit feedback to what the readers of C4P think is the #1 reason why we have reached this crossroads in American history.

My answer: the media and all its various branches who abandoned the truth or objective reporting in order to become unequivocably cheerleaders and propagandists for a statist agenda coupled that with the goal of destroying the credibility of the opposition and its agenda.

PatrickinOH,  November 21, 2009 6:08 PM

unfortunately I could not make it to either the book signing in cincinnati or columbus, I was hoping she would make a quick stop in dayton, but I am sure she will be back in the area some time soon

I am SO proud of Adrienne and thankful for all that she has done for us! She and Sarah are indeed kindred spirits. God bless her! I'm sure she's having the time of her life there. LOL!

Doug Brady,  November 21, 2009 6:31 PM

Send them to the "tips" email address.  I would GREATLY appreciate any pictures you have but may not get to them until later this evening or, more likely, tomorrow.  I'm about to head out to a Ohio State victory party!

techno,  November 21, 2009 6:34 PM

Put this in "I can't even believe it' category:

"The root source of our current troubles can be traced back to the Reagan administration. Remember, it was the tax cuts and deregulation pushed by President Reagan that unleashed an abnormal expansion of economic growth. The American people became accumstomed to an unhealthy pace of increasing material prosperity that IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE MORE SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS RESTRAINT PRESIDENT OBAMA IS TRYING TO BRING TO THIS COUNTRY."

"Rising home values, rising investment values, rising salaries ALL STIMULATE A SENSE OF GREED THAT IS AT ODDS WITH THE TYPE OF NEW NATION OBAMA IS TRYING TO BUILD. This country was already on the path to learning to live with reduced expectations under President Carter until Reagan took us off the track."

"Those who criticize what we're doing now to get back on track are DELUDED BY AN UNREALISTIC OPTIMISM ABOUT THE FUTURE. IN MOST OF THE REST OF THE WORLD PEOPLE ARE MUCH POORER THAN EVEN AMERICANS WHO ARE OUT OF WORK. ACCOMMODATING TO LOWER EXPECTATIONS AND LIVING STANDARDS IS THE PATH THAT THE PRESIDENT HAS CHOSEN FOR THIS COUNTRY. THE SOONER PEOPLE GET WITH THE PROGRAM THE EASIER IT WILL BE FOR ALL."

Timothy Geithner, Treasury Secretary

COMMENTS:

Folks, I did not think I could be surprised anymore after the interview I heard last Sunday on the Commonwealth Journal but this outburst by Timmy G even tops that.

This definitely deserves a thread of its own and I really believe there is enough here for Sarah to take and use it against the Messiah for the next 3 years. Wow! Double Wow!! Triple Wow!!!

Dan C,  November 21, 2009 6:37 PM

link to where he said this? This is a scandal if he publicly admitted that the president is purposefully brining us to lower living standards.

juju,  November 21, 2009 6:53 PM

No problem Tech...probably lots of truth in the article regardless that it is a hoax.

TSM Admin,  November 21, 2009 7:22 PM

Tommy:  I guess #2 "Will Oprah ask Governor Palin about NY-23?", is also now NO.  I had voted YES, but did not hear it mentioned on show Monday.  Was it maybe mentioned in the online version, whcih was a little longer?  If it wasn't there either, that is the only one I have missed so far.  She kind of did #7, she mentioned Rubio, but hasn't endorsed yet.

yogi41,  November 21, 2009 7:22 PM

One "fan" on her FB page is now saying he was left out in the cold at her Rochester signing. It sounds like no one told the crowd how many wristbands were being distributed, although people asked. Some assumed 1000, but it appeared that only 500 were given out. Again, not a big deal IF the people are told in advance how many they have to give out. These book stores really need to communicate a lot better with the folks waiting in line:

<span>"Jon Belec </span><span>Extremely disappointed, Governor. After being told that 1000 bracelets were being given out in Rochester, we waited in hopes to get a book and meet you even for a brief moment. Several people counted down the line and each time we were around 700 - 750. After 4 hours in typical 43 degree Rochester weather, we were t<span>...</span><span>old that all the bracelets had been given away and we never got an answer as to how many were actually handed out (we're assuming 500). I hope that the "confusion" gets sorted out between your people and the folks running the tour, and I would hope that you find some way to appease the many supporters you had that were also disappointed today."</span></span>

gardunne63,  November 21, 2009 7:23 PM

Martha Stewart dumped on Sarah...called her "dangerous".
Memo to self - never spend another penny on any of Martha's magazines, books, crafts, etc.

Will Palin's book tour jump-start a political movement?

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics/AP/story/1345480.html

Deidre,  November 21, 2009 7:25 PM

This is so what I want to do; however, at the Mall of America, you cannot even be on their property until 5 a.m.

Deidre,  November 21, 2009 7:27 PM

Wow, adults need to get over it.  Of course everyone wants their book signed; but I'm sorry, disappointment happens just like at Disney Land when Mickey had to leave and I couldn't get an autograph.  It's kind of irritating me; and I believe it is more the book store's fault than Sarah's.

Deidre,  November 21, 2009 7:28 PM

lets so, who was the one that went to jail?

Deidre,  November 21, 2009 7:29 PM

Let's see, who is the one that went to jail?

defendAmerica,  November 21, 2009 7:29 PM

YES!!!!

yogi41,  November 21, 2009 7:31 PM

Martha is a snob. She dumped on Rachel Ray, too, for various reasons, but one was because Rachel doesn't have a garden to pick fresh fruits and vegetables, like Martha does. Bill O'Reilly played the clip on his show the other night, and Martha, speaking in that "Sally Quinn-I'm smarter-than-everyone-in-the-room-voice", demonstrated to the world her first-rate snobbery.

As much as I admire Charles Krauthammer's intellect, he and Martha Stewart are suited for each other.

CTSherman,  November 21, 2009 7:32 PM

Watch the whole thing. It's amazing how the commenter's defend her!

tim c,  November 21, 2009 7:32 PM

It may have been unspoken but it is still true. Remember what bo said  we just can't turn up the thermostat and think it's ok with the rest of the world. Beck is right the only way they can level the global playing field is to tear us down.

yogi41,  November 21, 2009 7:34 PM

Of course it's the bookstores' fault; they need to tell people the truth about how many wristbands they are going to distribute. By this guy's account, they were told 1000, but towards the end, they distributed less than that. These stores need to settle on a number, say 500, and tell the folks the truth. Otherwise, it reflects poorly on Sarah.

yogi41,  November 21, 2009 7:35 PM

Newsbusters is a conservative site. Of course the comments are going to be pro-Palin! :)

yogi41,  November 21, 2009 7:36 PM

Whoops! I see you mean the CNN commentators. Sorry!

defendAmerica,  November 21, 2009 7:41 PM

it seems to be that the initial word from Palin camp was to advertise 1000 at each location.  Since she has had trouble doing this there have been some last minute changes from her to 500, so that she is not turning away people with the bands who are promised a signature.  The staff at these places are not used to dealing with the chaos of this type of crowd and were quick to admit that they were overwhelmed in both of the locations I was at.

However, many of these workers were unsure about how they felt about Sarah and were really not sure how they felt about her after being yelled at over and over again by Sarah's "Christian" base.

The truth is that there are probably 4000-5000 stopping by these locations to find out if they can get a signature  and meet her in the 24 hours before her arrival.  They walk up to the line, figure out how long people have been waiting and then leave.  It is difficult to explain the numbers of people that are around all day unless you're there yourself and it is difficult to remember that a "large" book signing in these smaller midwestern towns has 150 people at it.  They are just not set up or staffed for the thousands that are there and all of the national media.

It is clear that even the Palin people did not expect crowds of this magnitude to be waiting so long to see her.  The pre-event men that I talked to in Columbus said that she thought making signings in close together locations where she knew she had a large base would prevent this... there were 4 signings in 2 days all within a 2 hour drive of my house and they were all HUGE...

Hopefully the cities coming up are seeing the crowds and planning accordingly.

What makes me roll my eyes about the media is that they are focused on those who are turned away instead of the 500-1000 that are making it in.  If her crowds were small they'd focus on the fact that no one was there.  In their eyes, she's gonna lose either way.

Charles and Martha sittin' in a tree...

RedDaveR,  November 21, 2009 7:48 PM

I don't know if this is the #1 reason, but I think it's safe to say that we wouldn't be in this position if not for the complete cowardice of the GOP since approximately 1996. They had made some good progress in the Contract with America, but after they kept getting hit with "Medicare, Medicaid, education, and the environment" by the Dems in '96, they started to lose their nerve. They stopped being bold and offering new ideas, in fear of getting attacked by the Dems and the MSM.  Bush was a help on national security and tax cuts, but the bottom line was that "compassionate conservatism" really sent the wrong message. Some liked to call it "big-government conservatism", a real oxymoron if there ever was one. A major turning point was the prescription drug bill, where Tom DeLay browbeat the GOP house in passing a really bad, big-government piece of legislation. As Sarah pointed out in her book, it was hard to tell Democrats from Republicans. But their biggest act of cowardice was in not speaking up and fighting on the banking and finance issues, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, etc. and holding people like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd accountable. This came back to bite the GOP big time in 2008, on top of issues like Iraq and Katrina. 2008 was the perfect storm.
We can blame the MSM and the Soros/Moveon.org takeover of the Dems as well, but the GOP has simply made too many unforced errors and made it too easy for them.

Sarah could continue this book tour across America for the next YEAR and the crowds would keep getting bigger.  Wonder how all those rhinos who say they don't want her to campaign for them feel about these crowds?

Also, Huckabee is on a tour for his book...where's the coverage....why doesn't the LSM (lame-stream media) show stories about his long lines?

When Sarah called the medea the lamestream media....do you think she was inspired by reading C4P?

I wonder how many signed books have been ordered through Sarahpac with the $100 donation?  Can't wait for that book to arrive.

Can't say she lost me because she never had me.  I know I am a guy but I find her a cranky old hag.  Heck the other day she slammed Rachel Ray saying she can't find new recipes and she is just an entertainer.  My guess is Paula Dean is next.  Matha will call her just a stupid country bumpkin and then Martha will say Bobby Flay couldn't cook anything.

Zephyr,  November 21, 2009 8:41 PM

Just kidding...

MarkRNY,  November 21, 2009 8:47 PM

All roads lead to the media. If they reported truthfully, there isn't a single segment of our society that would look the way it does today--from academia to the culture to education to abortion to the war to Obama. Their reporting or lack of reporting--sins of Comission and Ommision are responsible for it all.

They're the head of the snake. Any energey expended to take back this country that doesn't have them in it's sites is wasted energy. I believe that someone we all know realizes this too--and they know she knows!

narciso,  November 21, 2009 8:49 PM

Ir's really not surprising, Martha is corrupt, yes, of course she would react poorly to Sarah. She was an easy get for Comey, and the SDNY, who missed Bernie Madoff for 20+ years, it's like crosses and vampires, they don't go together

Every time I read about another Sarah interview, the picture of Andrea Mitchell trying to get through Sarah's security in Grand Rapids comes to mind with that outraged shrew look and then I think about Sarah's description of the interview in Alaska...I think of fish slime....and I just die laughing.  Sarah is having a lot of fun and the LSM is looking even more foolish on a daily basis.  Where's the poll about the LSM.....Do you trust the media, Yes or No.

Bill O'Reilly has an article over at Townhall regarding Sarah Palin:

Hammering Sarah

With the possible exceptions of Richard Nixon and George W. Bush, no modern era politician has been more derided by the media than Sarah Palin. And the attacks do not stop with her. They include nasty rumors about her family and even the mocking of her children.

Palin has responded to some of the vitriol in her new book, "Going Rogue," hoping to give readers her side on controversies like the expensive clothes, the interview gaffes and Alaska's "Troopergate" case.
How have the media received the former Alaska governor's side of the story? Not well. She is being called a whiner and an ingrate, among other things.
Uber-liberal Cynthia Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says: "There is absolutely nothing in Sarah Palin's past that suggested she was ever going to let the past go. She's always been petty. She's always been vindictive."
Let's get this straight: Media people like Tucker can hammer Palin all day long, but if she defends herself, she's petty and vindictive.
Aren't the American media swell?
It is worth noting that the left has not been able to knock Palin out despite trying very hard. A study by the Culture and Media Institute looked at a two-week period during last year's presidential campaign. During that time, the nightly network newscasts ran 18 negative stories about candidate Palin for every positive story. Fair and balanced? Give me a break.
Somehow Palin has gotten under the skin of the far left. Feminist Naomi Wolf and crazy-left Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson put forth the latest propaganda. Independently, they dubbed Palin the new Evita. What are the odds of Wolf and Robinson, who operate worlds apart, both referencing Argentine Eva Peron at pretty much the same time? Coincidence? Sure.
Peron was a demagogue who appealed to the common man. She was also an incompetent leader. The song "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" has immortalized her.
So I am expecting a new song, to be sung by Bruce Springsteen, entitled: "Don't Cry for Me Wasilla, Alaska." I hope the lyrics aren't whiny.
My theory is that liberal America fears Palin. Even though a CBS News poll has her approval rating at just 23 percent, a whopping 37 percent of respondents say they are still undecided about the former governor. That means millions of Americans are potential converts to her populist cause. Bad news for the left if the country turns against the Obama administration.
Thus, the liberal media are hunting Palin, trying to drive a stake through her heart once and for all. But the woman is tough, wily and unafraid. She's driving them crazy.

Sure, you idiots in Congress.  Go ahead and pass that Deathcare bill.  Don't care what it says, I'm not buying insurance.  And I'm not paying any extra fees.  Just come try and put me in jail.  I won't go easy.  I'm armed to the gills.  This isn't internet bluster.  That's a promise.

I want to be Sarah's campaign manager. I would be a great campaign manager, everyone tells me so..either that or media spokesperson. I got a few choice words for the press

PEC,  November 21, 2009 9:40 PM

Good grief.  Was it that easy?  SOme policies of his are different from Sarah's but he is the closest to Sarah of any politician I know.  Funny he was a Dem and now they disdain the person closest to him.

AndreaB,  November 21, 2009 9:41 PM

Adrianne just tweeted a minute ago some nut tossed eggs at Sarahs books and said sorry I missed her. Sarah had just left but Miss Ross got egg on her clothes.

Noticed Sarah's hair is up in NY.  She is a natural but the last stop in Ohio showed that all the grooming in keeping it down was not going to happen.  She fixes this by just putting it up.

I hope so! But it is hard to tell. It was a 3 hour exam and the average score is expected to be around 55%! Last exam I got a 75% and that was in the top 10% of the class. Its kind of ridiculous.

Now everyone needs to focus on electing some conservative leaders in this country so that there are jobs available in a couple years, and all this hard work wont be in vain!

Zephyr,  November 21, 2009 9:54 PM

I am so sad about the loss of civility in our country.

yogi41,  November 21, 2009 9:54 PM

No, it wasn't that easy, I just happen to compare her to Andrew Jackson, too. I recall getting into an argument with one of her FB page supporters who had the nerve to compare her to Teddy Roosevelt. I realize it was supposed to be a compliment, but Teddy was a major Progressive who championed national health care and really wanted the Federal government to have more power and control.

I suggested that Jackson is the President whose life and character she closely resembles. I know most people want to compare her to Reagan, but for me, Jackson is closer in similarities.

Of course, she's unique and it's difficult to compare her to any politician, but when I read about Jackson's life, I can't help but see some similarities in their path to the Presidency.

ellen,  November 21, 2009 9:55 PM

I imagine she would have one at least in her own truck in Alaska, but I wonder about when she travels.

Adrienne taking one for the Guv! Seriously, I'm sorry it happened, but it doesn't surprise me that our Adrienne is in the line of fire, taking the heat for Sarah.

CruelaDev,  November 21, 2009 10:04 PM

One funny thing about the week though.. My nephew showed up to the Memorial Service with a huge gash above his eye...took 10 stitches to sew it up...yes that is funny in our family...badge of honor...

Anyway.. he was training Rashad Evans of the UFC in wrestling and Rashad placed a nicely time knee to head...So now he has a nice scare.  Rashad will be here again in a few weeks.. and I want his autograph.   My nephew also helps train Georges St. Pierre and Nate Marquardt.  Hey.. sometimes.. you just have to laugh!

Recovering Democrat,  November 21, 2009 10:10 PM

I love how she constantly changes up her hair looks. We've never seen a female politician do this. Female politicians are supposed to be dull and masculine. Sarah shatters the mold. This is what raises her into the realm of cultural phenomenon. She transcends politics, and that's why she's so dangerous to these egg-throwers.

munchnstuf,  November 21, 2009 10:10 PM

I worry about the Guv's safety. Although she never mentions it, she gets death threats. Lotta crazies out there. It doesn't help that the DNC is running shrieking "She's dangerous!!!!1" and no one is calling them out on it.

We now have a Governor Palin approved list of three phrases that are acceptable to use on this website.
1)bullcrap
2)no, no hell no
3)back-asswards
That is all unless we hear otherwise from the leader. ;-)

Lakerfanalways,  November 21, 2009 10:44 PM

All of this "She's dangerous" stuff makes me fearful for her life. Right now running for President is not even my concern, my concern is for her safety, it takes ONE looney tune to try to take her out..seriously..yes she is constantly flanked by security, but is she ever left alone, ever..I am really scared for her, its what i have been fearing for a long time..that someone might try to kill her..if anything GOD FORBID happens to her, the DNC will have blood on their hands. Reminds me of what happened to Princess diana, the media made her life a living hell, and when she died, her brother said "The media killed my sister" and he was RIGHT

CruelaDev,  November 21, 2009 10:45 PM

What does being Christian have to do with it?  Sorry.. I'm kind of angry this week...might be my attitude...but if the guy is going to throw an egg in my direction.. he will eat the pavement and anything else the egg landed on!

I was thinking this would be a great way for Palin to reach people through unfiltered media. You can upload video or radio podcasts, and they are free to download with iTunes.  I think some sort of weekly or biweekly "Common Sense Conservative Update" would be great.

Very nice...!  They are great dogs...
My sister called to tell us she has a new batch of nine Goldens...will be ready by Christmas...

God I will never forget the night I let my dog out when she was 4 months old.  It was 3am-ish
it was snowing to beat all hell...and she was out running around like someone lit a firecracker up her backside.  She refused to come in...and I figured I would let her play awhile...
Basically ...I fell asleep.  It was a few hours later I hit the ceiling knowing she was still outside...in a blinding blizzard.  I got to the back door and she was sitting there..snow packed on one side of her body and red on the other....Dear God .. I felt like CRAP!  She has been spoiled ever since!

PEC,  November 21, 2009 11:06 PM

Pressing charges is christian like.  Their is punishment for bad behavior.  I know it would have been a hassle but having this guy charged and convicted would have been great.  Let the liberals know there is consequences for bad behavior.

PEC,  November 21, 2009 11:08 PM

Actually I am going to press charges on Sarah.  SHe stole the backassward line from me.  I have used it for a long time.  Of course in the military this is a very common phrase (wonder if she heard it from Track).

PEC,  November 21, 2009 11:09 PM

WHat am I saying.  Adrienne knows their are bigger fish to fry. I think I would have chased him down and kicked his backassward.

Hey, Brianus--

How bout them Golden Bears!  Give 'em the axe, the axe, the axe, right in the neck, the neck, the neck! (That goes for the Senate as well!)

Very exciting game and except for a couple of moments, they did contain Toby--he's a stud but Shane Vereen really rose to the occasion for Cal.  Nice all around team victory (despite our feeble kickoffs).  The PAC-10 eats its own...Oregon losing to Arizona...go figure.  Could end up being OSU vs. OSU in the Rose Bowl.

Good luck over the next couple of weeks...God Bless

Recovering Democrat,  November 21, 2009 11:20 PM

Interesting timeline ... And I think that she got 48% of the vote in a 3-way race for governor, which is pretty impressive. Her numbers are rising.

Why would she ever want to just be a commentator?

I think she will campaign for candidates next year, work on her second book outlining her policy ideas, and then go out and make history.

narciso,  November 21, 2009 11:23 PM

I think it becomes clear that she will run, she wouldn't have been so forceful in her answers to Walters and O'Reilly, the times dictate bold moves, and she is the boldest of them all. It is not an issue of ego, but it is about the nature of the nation that we will become if events do not change.

PEC,  November 21, 2009 11:24 PM

We do need to praise Adrienne.  She took the egg for Sarah.  I know Sarah wasn't there but that is why Adrienne was there.  Through this Adrienne is great.

Mark R-CA,  November 21, 2009 11:27 PM

Narciso, i completely agree.  I think everyone should read "Going Rogue".  If you read between the lines, you'll figure out she is for sure running.

I think it's supposed to be "bass ackwards".

Mia,  November 21, 2009 11:29 PM

Cruela...Need a name for the dog...What say you?

ellen,  November 21, 2009 11:30 PM

She has said that she will play a major role in politics if the country will have her. At the same time she is saying that the American people are unrepresented in Washington and they are looking for a common sense conservative voice.  She says that she is just a common sense conservative, calling things how she sees them.  So if you connect these three thoughts the obvious conclusion is that she is not going away any time soon. I suppose the question now is how does she define "major role".  I think that her decision to resign as governor shows that she is not making any long term plans, and rather doing whatever will allow her to effect positive change the most at any given time.

i don't think that her defending herself so forcefully is a predictor of her political aspirations.  She is someone who is trying to spread the truth, and I think that is why she was bold in those interviews.

Zephyr,  November 21, 2009 11:30 PM

She certainly understands the urgency of the situation while others on both sides are in her words "dithering" as if we had all the time in the world to get things right.  This is a situation that if it the course is not corrected soon we will never be able to right it.

Mark R-CA,  November 21, 2009 11:30 PM

I hate to compare Sarah Palin to Madonna, but a lot of what Sarah does is masterfully manipulate the media, like Madonna.  That's why even Madonna is so threatend by Sarah.  It's obvious, she is using liberal tactics to further the conservative message.  This is why they are fuming.  It's the bratty kid whining, "No! Mine!"

Mark R-CA,  November 21, 2009 11:32 PM

Protestors are good. They validate Palin and bring about heightened media attention.  Sarah is wisely using negative publicity to her advantage.

If she runs and wins, she will go down as either one of the best or one of the worst Presidents of all time.  I earlier showed that Andrew Jackson was the President most like her.  HE too went straight to the people but COngress wasn't as power hungry then as now.  She will have wars with the elites and the entire COngressional body.  She will change them or find that fixing broke Washington is impossible.  She is the only "true" viable change candidate I have known in my life (sorry not around in 1820s.  THe book just further strengthens what we all knew about her.

I'm a big SEC fan.  A friend of mine who is against our COnference Championship game is trying to use the fact that with ALA and FL 1 and 2 the SEC Championship game hurts the COnference.  My take is different.  2 of the last 3 years the SEC Champion only got in the BCS Title game because with the extra tough win it boosted the SEC team to # 2 and they went on to win the Championship.  South Carolina is likely PapaJohns Bowl Bound.  Oh well better than sitting at home.

chicago's conservative,  November 21, 2009 11:49 PM

I think a policy book recommending cuts in marginal tax rates and capital gains, reduced spending, free trade, a sound stable dollar, and a strong national defense would be very attractive by the time 2012 comes around.

By the way on SNL, they just ran a commercial that uses graphics from the movie 2012 as a parody to depict the disaster when Sarah Palin is elected President. I know I shouldn't be amazed by now with the amount of attention and fear she strikes, but it is incredible.

What SNL forgets is that what Obama is doing to our country right now is the disaster, and in 2013 Sarah will be the one to clean the mess up!

Mark R-CA,  November 21, 2009 11:51 PM

Ellen, completely agreed.  Defending forcefully indeed goes against the presidential candidate rulebook.  But I believe this is what sets her apart, and gets the media to cover her.  Controversy makes for ratings and Sarah will use it to get her message out.

I also base my judgment on the fact that she goes at length about her record especially in Chapters 2 and 3.  Agreeing with Rush, this is one of the most substantive policy pieces I've ever read.  Another reason I think she is running for sure, is the strategic locations she chooses for this tour.  Everyt stop (except Idaho) is a swing state (Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania) or dangerously close to swing (Arizona).  I could give a few more reasons but that's what comes to mind right now.

Mia,  November 21, 2009 11:55 PM

BellaSiena,  November 21, 2009 11:55 PM

How about repealing ALL federal regulation from the past 30 years! That would be a good start. I strongly agree with your points. I'm originally from Joliet, IL (just south of Chicago) and fully understand the thugs that run that corrupt city and who now occupy the White House. People in this country have no idea what Chicago politics are like. Well, they are getting a taste now, look at the vote tonight in the Senate. Be very afraid people.

VandelayIndustries,  November 22, 2009 12:06 AM

I attended the Rochester, NY Book signing fiasco.  I am very sad to report, as a Sarah Palin supporter, that we were given fake autographed book plates.  Due to the cut in wristbands, the Borders staff said they had signed bookplates available, in which Sarah handsigned the bookplates.  The borders people insisted that the book plates were signed by her, however closer inspection of them revealed that these bookplates were auto-penned, and didn't have an authentic signature of Sarah, just the mechanical autopenned version.  This is very sad in my mind, because Sarah has always been a favorite of mine, but this was unexpected, and not appreciated that she would do this.

palinsupporter,  November 22, 2009 12:06 AM

I saw the SNL thing about Sarah and all I can say is you don't see them doing that with Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty or Gingrich.  She is the frontrunner for the nomination.  And did you see what they did with Obama?  They completely mocked him and really I think it was worse than what they did to Palin.

A,  November 22, 2009 12:08 AM

$25 is a lot.

What is needed is a lot of $25s.

1,000,000 @$25 is better than one source giving $25,000,000.

It is harder, but better.

in 2012, 10,000,000 @$25  gets Sarah through to the convention.

In 2010, 4,000,000 @ $25 transforms congress, governorships, legislatures, and state and local offices.

$25 is a wonderful amount.

I saw the segment on SNL and it was pretty bad but you don't see them ever talking about Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty, or Gingrich.  Also they mocked Obama and I think it was worse than what they did to Palin.

Alabama, Utah, Texas and South Dakota are safe but point taken.  SOmebody had a link on the non-importance of Iowa.  I agree and disagree.  Sarah needs to run there for sure but she really needs to lay the base across the country not just Iowa.  The reason why I disagree some is if she loses Iowa the media will destroy her.  If she decides to run she needs to turn into the Queen of the road (remember the book).  Get the grassroots on fire.

I can't believe she knowingly had anything to do with it.  File a complaint with the publisher.  They are the ones in charge of the tour.

I just saw 2 tweets from 2 people who are sleeping out tonight waiting for the Guv tomorrow in Roanoke.

They said the Guv and her family dropped by to say hi on their way to the hotel.
This lady has so much class and compassion.

She is the real deal.

"<span>@<span>sarahpalinusa</span> just came by to say hi!</span> <span><span>about 1 hour ago</span> <span>from UberTwitter</span> "</span>
<span>"<span>sarah and fam just came by to say hey!</span> <span><span>about 1 hour ago</span> <span>from mobile web</span> "</span></span>

She is the frontrunner for 2012 no doubt. If SNL is worried about her than just think about how Obama feels.

Oh and I don't write off any State completely.  Look in the Primaries NY, Ca are huge.  TOns of delegates.  If traction is gained there and the message gets out she can do well then ha go for it in the Geral.  Reagan didn't right off states.  That is a new concept Karl Rove invented and to be honest he turned 2004 into a close race instead of a rout.

That is NOT Sarah's fault, I doubt she even signed those things. Sounds like Borders bookstore are trying to screw with people. I would complain to the bookstore. Borders is a left wing bookstore, it seems they are trying to start trouble.

i think her the book tour people are completely caught off guard and overwhelmed by the response.  sarah simply can't be everything to everybody and can only do so much in 3 hours.  i think people fail to acknowledge that she is human and has limitations.
