-The Washington Post poll shows an even bigger lead for Governor Palin among Republican women and independent women that lean Republican:

Palin 23%
Romney 8%
Huckabee 6%
McCain 6%

-While the Washington Post focused on the fact that Governor Palin is quite popular with regular followers of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, her support among regular followers of Limbaugh and Beck only accounted for around a third of her overall support among Republicans and Republican-leaning indies in the poll.

-The most interesting piece of data from the Washington Post poll that all the pundits seem to be missing is the finding that Republicans and Republican-leaning indies accounted for around 62% of the adults surveyed. What that means is that if the GOP nominee for President in 2012 can win 75% of Republicans and Republican-leaning indies, he or she would probably win the election if this sample is an accurate representation of the electorate.

-Mark Blumenthal writes in the National Journal that "[s]hould [Palin] run in 2012, Palin is positioned to emulate the model Barack Obama employed for fundraising and field organizing: Draw big crowds to rallies, mine those crowds for small donations (by selling tickets), e-mail addresses and phone numbers (via text messaging). That effort helped raise $129 million in 2007, allowing Obama to compete in the early primaries, and translated into a small donor/grassroots army that ultimately defeated Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2008." In response to the Washington Post poll, Blumenthal notes that even though "Palin is not the first choice for a majority of Republicans in 2012...she has a devoted base of support -- a good thing to start with in a multi-candidate primary election."

-The first paragraph to the lead article in the local section for today's Seattle Times reads "RICHLAND — This is Sarah Palin country, proudly conservative, and something like 2,300 of the faithful lined up outside the Hastings bookstore here for her book-signing Sunday afternoon."

-Seth Lipsky from the Tablet, a Jewish magazine, loved Governor Palin's reply to Barbara Walters' question about Israel and settlements and considers Going Rogue a "marvelous memoir by a very smart, high-spirited woman, who is handling the messiness of family life and the challenges of a public life in a way that is inspiring millions."

-Obama's approval rating among Hispanics fell nine points from last week. His approval rating in the Midwest has also fallen under 50% for the first time in four weeks.

-If you are going to the Tempe or Roswell book signings, drop us a note in the comments and let us know what is going on in the Southwest.

With respect to Mike Huckabee's decision to pardon Maurice Clemmons and his belief in "the concept of restorative justice" as noted by one of his former campaign workers Joe Carter who made this claim:

"Nothing emboldens sin so much as mercy."

Folks for those who follow the PPP poll, PPP has decided to do a national poll within the next week to gauge Huckabee's support because of the Clemmon's issue and how it compares now to Obama, Palin, and Romney.

Hmm....Governor Palin trounces all the boys with Republican and Republican leading women. I'd like to start a very scientific poll amongst the same demographic here at C4P. Sisters?

Wait a second..I just saw this..what is this about Sarah palin flying on a plane..WHAT, you mean she goes on airplanes just like everyone else..and here I thought she flies on a magic carpet..damn, just when you think you know someone..oh well, I guess that proves you just dont know anyone these days ya know..really disappointing

Recovering Democrat, November 30, 2009 7:45 PM

Well, Whitney, I was a Romney gal last year (while simultaneously hoping Hillary won the Democratic nomination). And I've been a Palnista ever since Aug. 29, 2008. I cried my eyes out in the polling booth getting the chance to vote for the first female VP candidate in my voting lifetime. And for added measure I voted for every single woman on the ballot regardless of party. I know ... it was childish. And wrong. But it was sort of a "screw you" to the media, the misogynists in both parties, and it just felt damn good.

And now I'm loading up the SUV to drive to Missouri where I will meet my Palinista cousin for fun and frivolity at the Palin book signing in Springfield, followed by her speech to the College of the Ozarks.

Can anyone ever remember this frenzied poll taking of possible contenders less than a year into a new presidency?? There's one person, and one person only that they're interested in. I'll give you a hint--she can shoot an apple off your head at 100 paces.

Bill in Baltimore, November 30, 2009 7:49 PM

What a waste of time.

"Studies show that children who grow up with both parents fare better than those with only one parent in the house."
- they actually do studies like this.

Bill in Baltimore, November 30, 2009 7:51 PM

do you guys all remember my retired Reaganite friend whom I would tell you about ? He wasn't too keen on the quitter with the pregnant daughter.

Well, now he keeps writing "45" in all his e-mails to me.

And I confess: he's not retired, he's very active.

Chalk one up for BiB

:-)

Whitney, November 30, 2009 7:54 PM

Well since we are confessing, I suppose I should too. I used to be part of the problem. I voted for Obama.........not in 2008, but in 2004 for Senate. You see up until fall 2008, I was an apathetic moderate. Influenced by the teachings of the liberal state school I was attending, I voted for Obama for Senate as a college senior. In the 2008 primaries I debated voting in the democratic primary for Hillary or in the Republican primary for McCain. I ended up voting for McCain. Then Governor Palin arrived, and I began my conversion to conservatism. I'm not looking backing. I still haven't figured out what I am though. I think I may be a libertarian leaning Republican.

techno, November 30, 2009 7:57 PM

One vote at a time. Good job. Keep it up.

techno, November 30, 2009 7:59 PM

I am iconoclastic conservative. The labels mean nothing; what means everything is our support for Sarah and 'going forth and multiplying" and "spreading the gospel".

Izzy, November 30, 2009 7:59 PM

The liberal heads are spinning...they do not know what to about Sarah. lol. She is kicking butt.

Recovering Democrat, November 30, 2009 8:12 PM

Hey Whitney, don't feel too bad. I voted for Jesse Jackson in the Democratic primaries in 1988! LOL. That was the first vote I ever cast, the first of many ill-advised votes, until I finally turned it around and voted Republican in 2004. I totally became converted watching George Bush's convention speech that year. I had been planning on voting for Kerry up until that moment. But it was like my heart melted when Bush talked about the troops. Maybe it was the wine, maybe it was the fact I had been so touched by 9/11. But I stopped being a liberal right then and there.

The only reason I'm a "recovering Democrat" is because I have lots of liberal friends and family and I'm kinda wimpy about proclaiming my Palin Republican love around them. I need to get a backbone. I need to Go Rogue.

Sapwolf, November 30, 2009 8:16 PM

When Orville and Wilbur Wright struggled so much to create the first plane, they had no idea their incredible invention could be hijacked for such a base use.

Recovering Democrat, November 30, 2009 8:19 PM

Where is their statement?

Denise J, November 30, 2009 8:31 PM

Goverbor Palin's presence demands that we all take inventory of our political beliefs and convictions. She demands that we be clearly on one side of the other. It has been so exciting to read these comments and see how the energy. It's been a hoot too when it DEPENDS on who the comment is about.

I try to make sure I know the definition of every word uttered not just assume. For example, knowing exactly what's meant by political philisophy, the term policy, what exactly is a conservative.

And was really thankful that when Mark Levin interviewed Gov. Palin, he asked her what she meant by commonsense conservative.

When a gentlemen said he wanted to hear more substance from the Governor, it challenged me and I began to collect policy information that she has spoken about or written on. I feel that all this is helping me to see the benefits and am able to take an active role in the great conversation, as a citizen who is educated on the issues.

Thanks Governor Palin for demanding the best by living your life in the best possible way. You have awaken the people. Thank God.

CharterOakie, November 30, 2009 8:33 PM

Just a few of the reasons why we luv ya.

Whitney, November 30, 2009 8:38 PM

Did you all see Aw Schucksabee on O'Reilly O'Reilly wasn't very hard on him at all.

Sapwolf, November 30, 2009 8:40 PM

Persuade them. Offer a copy of her book to one of them.

jimr3, November 30, 2009 8:48 PM

No - O'Reilly wasn't tough at all - he gave him a pass. Basically, BOR said 3-4 times that Huckabee was a "stand up guy" for coming in. Huckabee feels terrible for what happened, and if he had known back then he wouldn't of granted clemency - but he did say he was responsible for the granting the clemency. BOR told him that there was no way he could have known what was going to happen in the future - "your a stand up guy governor". Huckabee said he never heard from the prosecutors opposing the clemency. He blamed the system, blamed the prosecutors, blamed the judges in Washington.

Sapwolf, November 30, 2009 8:48 PM

Whitney, go here:

http://www.kirkcenter.org/kirk/ten-principles.html

Those 10 are close to Sarah's Commomsense Conservatism combined with her Christianity and New Testament which of course rests on Jewish Faith of the Old Testament and the Ten Commandments.

There are other strains, but Russell Kirk's conservatism is a large sub-group.

Added to this, is Sarah's respect for the law, natural law, and the Constitutions of Alaska and the USA.

If you are interested in a primer, try Kirk's "The Politics of Prudence" for a start. Then when more confident his "The Conservative Mind".

This will give you a solid start of first things and the soul of the movement.

There are many others. Try The Conservative Book Club too.

yogi41, November 30, 2009 8:52 PM

Yeah, O'Reilly kept calling him a stand-up guy. In fariness to Huck, at least he said he was responsible for granting clemency and he felt horrible about it, especially after he slained those officers. It was a remarkable improvement from his tepid statement he issued last night. I don't know how this effects his chances in 2012, but I'm one of the few who always thought he wasn't going to run in 2012 anyways.

Sapwolf, November 30, 2009 8:52 PM

If you want a good conservative novel, try "Watership Down" by Richard Adams. Yes, it is about rabbits but it's really good. Trust me.

Whitney, November 30, 2009 8:54 PM

Thanks Sapwolf! I'll have to check that out. I've been doing so much reading in the last year, largely because of Sarah: Atlas Shrugged, Liberty and Tyranny, the President the Pope and the Prime Minister, A History of the American People by Paul Johnson, Why You're Wrong about the Right by SE Cupp, and of course, Going Rogue. I'm reading Democracy in America right now.

lmg, November 30, 2009 8:54 PM

Doesn't a Republican leaning woman indicate a broken heel?

Kjanlady, November 30, 2009 8:57 PM

I find that taking Sarah's book with me to public places and reading it will always strike up a conversation. If they like her and want to know more I recommend that they visit her Facebook site and C4P. If they say negative things about her I try to educate them and suggest that the corrupt media spreads nothing but lies. I suggest they read her book and then judge for themselves what they believe.

Normal people other than leftwing liberal nuts tend to be willing to give people a second chance. The book is an excellant way to advocate for Sarah. No hope for liberal obomabots.

Sapwolf, November 30, 2009 8:57 PM

Whitney, be careful of libertarianism taken to the extreme. Then its individualism becomes as cold as at one end of the spectrum as the coldness of totalitarianism at the other.

Sarah does have some libertarian views, but it is tempered by her Christian Faith.

Whitney, November 30, 2009 9:01 PM

Thanks for the warning. I'm more libertarian on economic issues, but I'm definitely a social conservative. My faith is very, very important to me.

Kjanlady, November 30, 2009 9:02 PM

Greta has a write up on Gretawire defending Huckabee. She's wrong on this. Looks like the Fox pundits are closing ranks. I do not like Huckabee and hope that this kills any chance of him running.

gelston the knowitall, November 30, 2009 9:07 PM

what made me a conservative would be George Gilder's two great books, "wealth and poverty" and "men and marriage'
It was the "men and marriage' book that coverted me to the concept that women are superior to men, which I believe to this day. It has helped me in my marriage, working with nurses, and in supporting Mrs. Plain.
It's easy. Women are superior to men.

Even though Huckabee and some others are doing damage control for him, this is gonna kill his chances. The problem is that he has a disturbingly very high number of these cases of commuting sentences. THAT shows a dangerous problem with judgment that we don't see with Sarah Palin.

On the Huckabee and BOR interview
Michelle Malkin lets them both have it - good for her:
Huckabee got softball treatment on O’Reilly. He blamed other prosecutors and judges while downplaying his ill-considered judgment. There was no discussion of Huck’s long, controversial record on mass clemencies that resulted in more innocent victims of brutal crimes. And O’Reilly unbelievably praised Huckabee for his openness in explaning clemency decisions — which should cause the entire state of Arkansas to shake in derisive laughter and revulsion given the former GOP governor’s stubborn refusal to explain his decisions until forced to so by a massive public backlash.
You can watch the brief interview here.
Missing: Any mention of the blood-boiling Wayne Dumond clemency, the statistics cited above on Huck’s reckless clemency mania, and Huck’s direct role in granting clemencies when lobbied by pastor friends who knew which buttons to push.

I got here Sunday afternoon and am happy to be sleeping in my RV and listening to Going Rogue in audio. If I were any more excited I would faint! I love reading all the comments you folks post! God loves Sarah Palin and so do I!

hrh, November 30, 2009 10:13 PM

K, I'm either stupid or too tired. 45 stands for the next president, right? But how does writing that in emails mean he now supports Sarah for 45?

hrh, November 30, 2009 10:19 PM

So maybe Sarah does need to get a TV show on Fox so she can have the whole network defending her ... so every show host can talk about how stupid the plane versus bus thing is, for example.

Ted Torgerson, November 30, 2009 10:25 PM

I also voted for Obama in 2004. I have no excuse. I'm the same age as Sarah. I went door to door for Reagan. My vote was a protest against the feckless Illinois GOP, who are just as corrupt as the Blago, Daley, Emanuel, Obama, Rezko crowd but just not as popular. They brought in Alan Keyes who is a good man but not from Illinois. I refuse to vote for a carpet bagger. Obama campaigned as a moderate post-partisan. Sound familiar? Fooled me

yogi41, November 30, 2009 10:29 PM

Huck most likely got a call from Ailes instructing him to go on O'Reilly (and probably other shows) and "man up", with at least taking responsibility for his actions. It was probably a mandate in order to keep his show. Huck looked contrite and did a reversal from "it was everyone's fault but mine" to "I accept responsibility for granting him clemency." Will it work? Enough to keep his show but not enough to ever garner the GOP nomination, regardless of when he runs (2012, 2016, etc...).

I noticed that his supporters' site, Huck's Army, had this story up last night, with zero comments. However, when I looked for it this morning and again this afternoon, it was gone. I was very surprised that his supporters have their heads in the sand and won't even discuss it or allow it to be discussed among themselves.

AKReport, November 30, 2009 10:30 PM

media covering for huckabee.

Anonymous, November 30, 2009 10:33 PM

Well, Palin would certainly start in a far better position than Obama did. And she won't have a Hillary to compete against. Imagine how much better Obama would have done if he just had Edwards, Richardson and Biden to go up against.

Considering everything she's been through, she's doing just fine. Even Reagan in 1979 had only a 54% approval rating among Republicans in one poll. He consistently trailed Carter by double digits even into the spring of 1980. He lost the Iowa caucuses to some guy named Bush and people thought he was finished. He was way too old and too conservative to win. Everyone has ups and downs. For just ending November of 2009, and after the year she's had, she's fine.

Next year will be about expanding things, going out and supporting various candidates, being seen as a visible leader and voice in what hopefully will be a big year for the GOP and establishing a network of support across the country(the Nixon in 66 model). Then, hopefully come the first Wednesday in November in next year a lot of people say to themselves "Hey, we just had a great night. Look who really went all out to help make it happen. Look who supported a whole bunch of people who won last night. Who was front and center as a face of the party. Who really helped get out the message and take it to the dems. Etc..." Hopefully some of those newly elected folks will also say that to themselves.

Then you throw in the 2nd book around the middle of November, more policy oriented and basically laying out a nice agenda and platform. That'll be another huge bestseller.

Things will fall into place.

CudaCountry, November 30, 2009 10:35 PM

TexMex, November 30, 2009 11:09 PM

Because it's OT and because i've been chewing on these questions for some time...

For a time we all had spirited debate about whether Palin would run in 2012. Since the resignation in July and the book tour I would be many here feel Palin is definitely looking at a 2012 run. Maybe not a definite decision but I think she's considering it. My question goes back to her resignation speech: why did she not want to run for re-election? After reading her book, and seeing some interviews pre-VP announcement I think she's thought about running for President for some time. Not obsessed about it like Al Gore but she's considered it. Honestly, why not? She's shown she's a leader, not a follower. I'd love to ask why she wasn't going to seek re-election. I think, and this gives me hope, she's been eyeing a run for some time. I dearly hope she throws her hat in the ring and runs. Thoughts?

Also, what I find most irritating about the pundits and various Romney pushers is that among the mulitple complaints they have against her, the one that chaps me the most, is that she's drawing too much attention away from other candidates. I don't understand this reasoning. First, as Liz Cheney stated a few weeks ago, Palin was the GOP's VP candidate so naturally she should at least be considered a potential 2012 candidate. The naysayers surely saw the massive crowds and energy she generated while on the campaign trail. Crowd size segues into my second point which is the number of people lining up, waiting hours in cold weather, just to get a sig or merely see her. I'm sorry, but Romney and Pawlenty are NOT drawing crowds at their events. Granted, crowds don't equal votes, but they do show interest and in Palin's case it's passionate interest. The Romneybots I've read on other sites claim that their man is vastly better in experience, knowledge and money. Yet, he couldn't beat McCain in the primaries and he isn't drawing the support of the base. They can poo-poo lack of base support all they want but the base works the trenches, goes door to door, makes calls, and more importantly shows up to vote. I don't care how well funded Romney is, those thousand dollar checks from 10 businessmen aren't as valuable as 1,000 supporters canvassing the streets. What all this ranting boils down to is this: How do we Palinistas comport ourselves in a Palin v. Romney primary? What if she asks him to be her VP? What if there's some graft and she gets robbed of the nomination via establishment GOPers? Do we stay home, write in Palin's name or back Romney? Thoughts?

gelston the knowitall, November 30, 2009 11:14 PM

SERIOUSLY, CUDACOUNTRY, I am glad you are here. Please stay.

defendAmerica, November 30, 2009 11:17 PM

just stay up. it will make it all so much more memorable!! although I wondered when I met sarah after sitting out in the rain and cold without sleep for 24 hours, how bad i actually looked. she has to be starting to think that we "real americans" are really getting to be a bunch of bad looking people :)

yogi41, November 30, 2009 11:19 PM

I think she's preparing for a run in 2012 AND she's also prepared not to run. She clearly is the type that keeps all options open to her, and more importantly, she prepares for all of the options. I think she's going to try to be largely effective in 2010 and after that, assess the landscape. Should everything be in place, she'll run in 2012. If something knocks her off course, I think she's prepared her heart for that, too.

Anonymous, November 30, 2009 11:20 PM

I think she didn't run for reelection for two reasons.

One, if she did and for some reason lost(anything can happen, and you know the WH and DNC would make her their #1 target)her political career would be over. Even if she won, she'd have to announce a run for President only months after and would have to be out of the state most of the time. She'd have been hounded during the campaign. If she said she was going to run, that might lead ot her defeat as who wants to vote for someone who's going to just up and run for Preisdent weeks after being sworn in. If she said no, and then did run, she'd appear a total fraud and liar. So basically she decided she wanted to run and realized that she couldn't really run a 2 yr campaign and be Governor at the same time, especially in a remote state like Alaska.

Two, and more importantly, the attacks just got to be too much on her, her family and the state. She wan't going to stick around as Governor while a new ethics charge was mounted every day, while WH and DNC hacks did everything they could to make her miserable, while liberal media members and hatchet men went after her family, while she was shackled in the Governor's enough and couldn't really participate on the natl scene, and while the business of the stae was totally obstructed. As she said in the book, sometimes you have to pass the ball when you're double and triple teamed to the guy who's open under the basket for the easy shot. Parnell can do his thing and implement the agenda and she can do her thing. She turned the tables on the tormentors and liberated herself. Did something they never expected.

TexMex,
I think Governor Palin is in a praying for guidance portion of her life after resignation, right now. Asking, seeking, knocking and sometime, finding God's path for her life for the forseeable future.

Bill...you made me wonder about the number 45...so here ya go...

"Why did Jordan choose the number 23 for his jersey? It was half of 45, his first choice. His number was already taken (45) when he made the high school basketball team, so he halved the number and kept it all through High School and College. Jersey number Jordan took upon his return from baseball. … from cgi1.sportsline com … ‘My favorite number had always been No. 45 - which was my older brother Larry’s number. When I got to high school, I couldn’t have No. 45 because Larry had it - so I decided to have half of his number … 22 and a half, which rounded to No. 23. That’s the real story of how I came to wear No. 23.’"

TexMex, November 30, 2009 11:41 PM

Basically! If Palin is defeated fair and square in the primaries I won't pitch a fit. I'll be disappointed but I'm not going to be a sore loser. If however, it's stolen or some parlimentary BS goes down and Romney ends up with the nod I'll raise holy hell to ensure the GOP's pick gets defeated. At that point I don't care if Obama gets re-elected. You expect to get stiffed from an opponent but not your own team. We've been stiffed by the GOP for too long but that outcome would be the severing point for me.

CruelaDev, November 30, 2009 11:43 PM

The sum of all the digits is 45 (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9=45)

narciso, November 30, 2009 11:46 PM

She's weighing her options, we saw certainly on the Walters interview, and Greta, the level of dissapointment she has in the caliber of leadership, certainly in the top circles. I mean honestly who is the alternative voice who speaks common sense, but still with a positive air.
She admitted toward the tail end of GR the apprehension she feels, but interestingly enough
her daughter snapped her out of those doldrums

CruelaDev, November 30, 2009 11:47 PM

In the book of Daniel of the Old Testament, the prophet Daniel speaks about a period of painful wait of 45 days declaring blissful who will pass it and reaches the end of this period. In the chapter 12 verse 11, he speaks that 1290 days will be passed between the establishment of the idolatrous cult by the Antichrist until the end the world. Then, following this chronological indication of the verse 11, he adds this other to the verse 12: "Blissed is he who perseveres and attains 1335 days": 1335-1290=45 days.

She will run if she feels it is God's will.

and a sign will be the Palin Army that rises to support her and protect her. And this includes Reagan's Army, which is still strong and healthy - in DC.

The number 45 is used 3 times in the Bible.
The word fidelity is mentioned 45 times in the Bible.

This one is a personal favorite....

The Ritual of the "Great exorcism", written in 1614, is often used by the priests to hunt demons and to liberate the man of the demonic influence, by the spiritual authority that Jesus has confided to the Church. The "Great exorcism" begins with a sign of cross, a sprinkling of holy water - there will be a lot others - and by the recitation of the "Litany of the saints", that is to say the invocation of their name follow by a "Pray for us". The officiant calls thus 45 saints, then he tells the "Our Father" and reads the psalm 53, after what he will attack himself to the forces of the evil, by beginning to ask to God "the audacity to combat the infamous dragon".

Have you read The Fountainhead? I liked it a lot more than Atlas Shrugged. I am biased tho, because I am interested in architecture and engineering. Besides Rand's normal message and themes about the individual, she is quite critical of journalism. Saying that intelligent journalism is unattainable. Its relevant stuff.

Only time will tell, tho. Its guaranteed to be an interesting few years.

Maybe I am not suppose to post this type of thing here. However, a friend sent it to me and she is not a nut case. She is a very serious person. I have no problem with this being deleted if I shouldn't post it.

Federal Judge Carter sets Trial Date for Obama's Eligibility!

The expedited trial has been set for Jan. 26, 2010!

Many concerned veterans and citizens attended the hearing in Federal Court in Santa Ana in the lawsuit against Barack Obama to determine his eligibility to be President and Commander in Chief. About 150 people showed up, almost all in support of the lawsuit to demand that Obama release his birth certificate and other records that he has hidden from the American people.

Judge David Carter refused to hear Obama's request for dismissal. He indicated there was almost no chance that this case would be dismissed. Obama is arguing this lawsuit was filed in the wrong court if you can believe that. Obama would prefer a "kangaroo court" instead of a Federal court! Assuming Judge Carter denies Obama's motion for dismissal, he will likely then order expedited discovery which will force Obama to release his birth certificate in a timely manner (if he has one).

The judge, WHO IS A FORMER U.S. MARINE, repeated several times that this is A VERY SERIOUS CASE which must be resolved quickly so that the troops know that their Commander in Chief is eligible to hold that position and issue lawful orders to our military in this time of war. He basically said OBAMA MUST PROVE HIS ELIGIBILITY to the court! He said Americans deserve to know the truth about their President!

The two U.S. Attorneys representing Barack Obama tried everything they could to sway the judge that this case was frivolous, but Carter would have none of it and cut them off several times. Obama's attorneys left the courtroom after about the 90 minute hearing looking defeated and nervous.

Great day in America for the U.S. Constitution! The truth about Barack Obama's eligibility will be known fairly soon - Judge Carter practically guaranteed it!

Video from the press conference after the hearing coming soon. Congratulations to plaintiffs attorney Dr. Orly Taitz! She did a great job and won some huge victories. She was fearless!

Everybody start hoarding your pitchforks and torches. The GOP is bound to reshuffle the primary schedule to derail her.

I agree. They are holding fire until after the 2010 elections, otherwise there would be a revolt by the base.

I have utmost regard for Sarah's political instincts, and think this was a factor in her resignation. By no stretch the main one, but a factor.

Had she stayed govenor her ability to re-connect with her supporters in the Lower 48 was limited due to potential ethics charges, and also her ability to gain traction with republican figures by supporting candidates in 2010.

She would have arrived in early 2011 with all the doors closed.

I think this is why she still continues to build up her support among the base. It is her biggest defence against her first challenge - the republican establishment.

My personal feeling is that people like Hayley Barbour are already plotting. And hence why people like David Brookes say she hasn't got a chance to win the primary.

Needless to say, I'm certain she is postioning herself for a run. But agree, if something happens, she is prepared to accept that too.

Jesse Cornish, December 1, 2009 1:07 AM

Things are different now. She has millions of people willing to go out on the line and support her, and that base is only growing.

CruelaDev, December 1, 2009 1:13 AM

As are we prepared to accept it...whatever happens...and I think I can safely say for all of us...
We support her no matter what. She has been through hell and back. If she states it is not in her and her family's best interest to run...we will support her. If she decides to run.. she has an army ready to fight and work with her!

BTW, in addition to changing primary rules where they can, and other things, it is likely they will try to lock in large donors.

As I said, I'm certain Sarah knows all this. So, I'm confident there will be a major effort by Sarah and her people in the next six months to start gathering grassroot donors, possibly online. You can bet on that.

When I realized early this year that she wouldn't be supported by the Republican Party/Establishment, I'll admit it was very disappointing. Possiblt the only thing that has ever worried me about Sarah and her prospects.

But, I have come to the firm conclusion that Sarah is better not having that support. For many different reasons. So I'm happy with situation, and in fact very much looking forward to these future battles!

militantfeather, December 1, 2009 1:46 AM

Last comment about this ... promise.

The media have been running with the meme Palin is bad for the Republican Party for some time, eg, "what to do about Sarah". I believe this is coming from and encouraged by some in the Republican Establishment. Higher up, they have made up their mind. They want that filtered down to other establishment figures, at the state level and those in conservative organizations, without taking the risk of exposing themselves directly. Hence the media, a willing ally.

David Brookes let the cat out of the bag, when he said she will never be the nominee. It is ridiculous to say that about someone with her high favourables in the Rep party, unless of course you have insider knowledge that something is underway or planned.

It has to wait till after the 2010, otherwise the intrenal war will ruin a Rep comeback in the mid-terms.

But it is not certain it will come to pass.

Firstly, if Palin's favourables continue to improve, especially among indies. So she may have time on her side.

Secondly, we know the Republicans are useless, and it may well all fall flat. And it is likely to simply because it would be hard to have everyone working from the same playbook, especially if Sarah remains popular with the base, or gains with Indies.

I only write all this to give my view of the constant theme within the media that I expect we will hear over the nest year and where it is coming from, and if true, and if Sarah understands this (which is a certainty if it is true), will help explain what she does, when she does it, and how she does things.

narciso, December 1, 2009 1:49 AM

Well I've always been on the outside, never really participating in politics, so it wouldn't be that big a surprise. Sometimes I think she gets it, but then there was that statement on Greta, where she said people only wanted a voice. Well that's true, but she is most likely that voice

TexMex, December 1, 2009 2:36 AM

I've been wrestling with this too. Conventions are historically horse trading events, but I think everyone has been spoiled these past few elections into thinking that it's all one big happy united party come convention time. Hopefully, the primaries will sort out the leader so there won't be a problem at the 2012 GOP convention. That said, you're right MF, I do think that the Republican Establishment is planning on something underhanded re: Palin. The book tour is bringing out massive crowds, and any candidate she stumps for 2010 is sure to have lots of people come out to see her. If she can motivate those crowds to elect her candidate she'll have undeniable power come 2012. If the GOP bigwigs ignore that and push for a cookie cutter RINO they'll have a full revolt on their hands. Anyway, 3 yrs is a long time so we'll see how things play out. If Palin wishes to make a run I say let her. We'll see who's troops fight the hardest ;)
