Palin Book Signing in Roanoke and Dinner With the Grahams; Updated
Governor Palin stopped in Roanoke, VA for a book signing today. About 300 people camped out overnight, and the people in line report that the governor stopped by to see them late last night:
By this morning there were over 1,000 people there according to The Roanoke Times.
And, according to The Charlotte Observer, Governor Palin will have dinner with Franklin and Billy Graham in Montreat, NC tonight:
Sarah Palin, who will sign books Monday at Fort Bragg, plans a stopover in Montreat today to have dinner with 91-year-old Billy Graham and his son, Franklin Graham, who issued the invitation.
"He just saw that she was going to be in the area and he said to come by," said Jeremy Blume, a spokesman for Franklin Graham. Former Alaska Gov. Palin, who was the Republican vice presidential nominee in 2008, will fly into Asheville this afternoon, Blume said, and then go to Billy Graham's mountaintop home in Montreat for dinner.
Update: A few recent tweets from the Guv (in chronological order):

And a few more details on Palin's trip to Montreat from the Asheville Citizen-Times (h/t Puma.for.Life):
Palin, who's on a tour promoting her new book, "Going Rogue," is scheduled to arrive at Asheville Regional Airport at around 3:30 p.m., Graham spokesman Jeremy Blume said.
Update II: (h/t Beehive) The Citizen-Times has video of the governor's arrival at the airport, and of her speaking briefly to reporters.

wow, Billy Graham???
Now that leaves me speechless.
Right on! The Gov (and family) continue to make people smile! So thoughtful of her to stop by the store to say hello...I hope other public servants see what an impact she makes with these little gestures and they follow suit.
Well done, Governor! Safe travels!
That is SO awesome. the Graham's are a great family. She will have a wonderful time
"Dinner with the Grahams"!!! I saw that headline and got sick! Then I read and found out it was with Billy Graham and not Lindsey. Whew, I feel better.
I know Lindesy is from S. Carolina but thought maybe he dropped by to visit Palin.
You all got stop making headlines like that.
Dinner with Billy Grahm? Can we ask for better endorcement. Millions can only dream of the invitations like that. Well done Sarah!!!

I would love to be the fly on the wall for the conversation when Rev. Graham and Mrs. Palin retire to the study for a private conversation.
I just found out Sarah is flying into Asheville at 3:30 pm. Here is the link to the newspaper article:

I got an email from the local Republican Party (I'm on their mailing list because even though I am an independent I worked for the campaign); the big confusion is whether she is flying into the Jetport or the private airport next to the Jetport. It is l ousy weather here, rainy..ohhh, I want to go so bad. Graham lives in Montreat where I go hiking frequently; in fact, if it was a nice day that's where I would be! What to do , what to do...I'm supposed to call back in half an hour or so to find out which airport; I live about 20 minutes away.
WOnder if Greta will link up with Sarah there? I know Greta has gone a couple of times with Franklin Graham to Korea.
Please go for us and get a nice picture.
Last winter Sarah and Franklin traveled to western Alaska with supplies for needy Alaskans. He runs Samaritan's Purse.
i've been quite miserable thinking about this healthcare debacle, and have posted negatively here. Billy Graham reminds me that the most important "change" of all is within me and only through Jesus Christ. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ_IoyqvLCU&feature=related
i think i'll open my bible and chill out a bit.

I think every evening we should have an open thread with the whole days tweets from our soon to be commander in chief... its hard keeping up with them here, but when you read a whole day of them they really tell a story about who Sarah is and what she is up to. A nice snapshot of her day...
I don't recall McCain ever "agreeing" with Schmidt and Wallace. Andrea is a disgrace to journalism. What a lying hag!!
No other politician or celebrity would stop at midnight to thank the supporters for camping out to just have one minute's time with her/him the next day.
Gonna put out one of my favorite quotes of the book so far. I'm almost all the way through it. For those of you just starting it, it is heavier in policy in the beginning, but it is important to understand were Sarah stood on issues before the campaign before she gets into the campaign. Hang in there... it gets lighter.
This is Bristol and Sarah having a conversation about Bristol's dream to open a coffee shop and own a small business. Sarah is telling her to be cautious with that idea with all of the government control set to come out of Washington.
"Bristol was wide awake now.
'You're always preaching that goverment can't make you happy, healthy, wealthy, or wise.' Business owners are smarter than politicians give them credit for and President Obama is wrong to think more government control is the answer. Pay attention to the tea parties, Mom. You're not alone in this. That's what they're saying.'
Bristol's barista wage: $7.25 an hour.
Her advice to the president (and to her mom): priceless"
I met and hung out with Tito at CPAC in Feb. Great, great guy. Big Palin supporter. And he helped McDonnell out too.
Love Reverend Graham and the legacy he is leaving us. If you have never read his autobiography, I highly highly recommend it. I only admire my mom more. (Which is saying a lot.)

Greta said she was meeting up with her on Monday at Fort Braggs for an interview to be aired Monday night
You would think her parents are going also since they are down. Someone has to get a picture.
Mini-news update on Sarah' Thanksgiving plans. It sound like the sisters here can run with her, if they wish.

The location for the booksigning on 11/30/2009 is still "TBA" but one commenter said it would be at Freddie's, for you people from the Northwest.
I can not go because I am on call that weekend and the law requires that I stay within 15 minutes of the hospital (did you know there is a law for everything?).
I purchased my C4P T-shirt, just in case (and thought the Zazzle shirt was excellent even if the price was high for my thrifty, Scots blood. My perfect wife has been know to call me "Plaid A**")
thanks for posting the video. But why does she give andrea the time of day...
I'm headed to Governor Palin's book signing in Orlando on Tuesday. I'm driving up Monday, and likely will jump in line and stay in it all night.
Has anyone been to a book signing before? Are there any tips you can give as to book signing "line etiquette"? Or some Do's and Don'ts? For instance, if you have multiple people in your group, and one has to go to the bathroom, can they leave and come back to the group without people getting angry? Any comments would be appreciated. :)
she has to start ignoring people like andrea. Just ignore her and don't respond. Maybe her security has to keep people like andrea away.
And Andrea can't figure out why she can't get an interview.
Andrew,
I have never been to a book signing like this in the past, but I did attend both the signings in Fort Wayne Indiana and the one in Columbus Ohio. I discussed my experience at both in detail under the Columbus book signing thread.
People seemed to start congregating at both about 24 hours before her arrival, but the crowds didn't start to get thick until about 12 hours before.
It seems like she is now offering 500 wristbands which will get you 2 signed books.
People in line were very flexible about people leaving the line for whatever reasons until 2-3 hours before hand when it starts to get really packed and really crazy- best to plan on staying in line then.
Take a lot of snacks. Be prepared for multiple scenarios. The signing in Fort Wayne was in a Meijer that was open 24 hours. They had said they weren't going to allow us to line up in the store, so I was prepared with rain gear (it was pouring outside) and camping chairs. They changed their minds and let us in. I didn't end up using most of what I brought and was able to spread a blanket out on the floor in the aisle and use my backpack as a pillow.
In Columbus, we were lined up outside all day and, though it was 55 degrees, that eventually feels cold when you've been out in it for 15 hours. I was thankful for the gloves and blankets I had thrown in the trunk.
Most are Sarah supporters and are friendly and accomodating. There are a few you will wonder about...
You will need to have a receipt with your book which will be checked before you are given your wristband. You can get 2 books signed with a wristband.
You are not allowed to take anything in when you actually meet Sarah and must leave coats, purses, etc outside. I'm sure this will be even more beefed up with the most recent "egg issue".
Take anything you could possibly want or need and leave it in the trunk. Get there really early and stake a place in line and then go back and get what you decide you want from the car.
3 hours or so before the event you will end up packing up most of your stuff and will have to stand and pack the line in tighter as more people arrive and the craziness starts.
Be prepared for the interviews. I haven't seen hardly any of it make the news, but the press was at both events in droves, interviewing everyone. I'm guessing the answers make too much sense and are too well articulated to be played in the lame stream media, but they have been there full force.
again. read my experience under the columbus thread as it is much more detailed. i talked about both signings there. i spent the night in fort wayne for a noon book signing.
i arrived in columbus at 8am for a 6pm book signing and was too late for a wristband. i did get my book signed but i had to wait all day without a guarantee.
at the meijer signing in fort wayne, you were expected to stay in line with your wristband, unless you were headed to the bathroom, etc, and they were handed out about 2 hours before the signing.
at the borders in columbus, wristbands were handed out at 10am, with 5 different colored bands, 100 of each color. Most of those people left for the afternoon, went home, freshened up, and came back around 4pm and lined up in the order of their band color for a 6pm signing.
Tito the builder showed up? I love that guy. He ripped the media last year and praised America!
Awesome, I love that guy!
Thanks for all the info, and I'll go back and read your event story. :) I was mostly concerned about whether or not bathroom breaks would be allowed (or we can go put our chairs and heavy things away in the car)--especially if you're camping camping all night outside. That would dictate whether I brought food / water, or I dehydrated / fasted in order to stay in line.
I'll probably get up to Orlando in the evening, likely around 7pm or so (I'm 4 hours away). And wristbands are going to be given out at 9am, but she doesn't get in until 7:30pm. I figure once I get a wristband, and if they allow it, I can go to a hotel, freshen up / take a nap and come back in the afternoon.
people might actually start lining up earlier. Florida's weather is warmer than NY weather, so it is cold hanging out all night. People in Florida won't mind hanging all night
Andrea needs to get slimed :-)
Yeah I figured they would be. I originally was planning on just staying in a hotel over night and coming back around 3am, but figured what you did that they would be lining up really early so I decided to camp it out.
Hopefully not too many are in line by the time I get up there. :) I may move up my schedule and go a bit earlier.
Billy Graham's a great man. I'm glad he seems to have called her!
Aside from the honor, this could start the peeling away of the Evangelical vote from Huck to Sarah. This is a big deal!
I just finished reading her book and came to C4P. I am about 70 miles from the Asheville airport and would have loved to go just to catch a glimpse of her. I found this too late. Hope her visit is enjoyable and that she returns to Western NC sometime so that I might glimpse/ meet/ shake her hand.
I makes me laugh watching the security guys hold Andrea back from Sarah. : )
Oops I meant it
I hope to make it to that signing. :^D
Note that Lady Sarah is signing books for people THAT COULDN'T GET IN THE "OFFICIAL" SIGNING LINE rather than pay attention to that little TROLL of a "reporter". I REALLY like the way she 'brushed her off' with that 'hand-washing' gesture...... ;-)
And loved the way she said she loved the opportunity to write "the truth in the book.'!!!!!!
Your right, mccain said they worked hard and did a good job. just standard stuff. Andrea Mitchell lied as usual.
I just got back from the airport in Asheville. Don't have the pictures just yet, I took a friend and she took the pictures and will email them to me. I will post on my blog and I don't know how to send them here. But here is the scoop:
We got there just as her plane arrived. She arrived at the small private airport. She stepped out of the plane wearing a violet suit jacket and black skirt and really high high heels (I don't know how she does it). She was holding Trig. Piper was also there along with her (Sarah's) mother and father and her Aunt Kate. Franklin Graham was there to greet her and I presume take her and family to Montreat. There were about 15 reporters and not more than 10 fans; I was the only one with a book!!
I hope I wasn't too obnoxious but I was very excited. Sarah came into the small building and started greeting people. When she got to me I asked her if she would sign my book and pulled out a pen for her because I figured she wouldn't have one, which she didn't. She said sure; I told her I was a Puma, former Hillary supporter, and worked for her campaign. I asked her to run in 2012. Well, would you believe, she hugged me! Wow! I said God Bless You and she moved on.
She spoke briefly and took a few questions from the reporters. I couldn't think of what to ask or I'm sure she would have responded. I asked her Dad if he would sign my book also and after she was done speaking, he did; he signed his name and underneath he wrote "Dad". I thought it was cute (I had called him Dad).
I was interviewed by the local newspaper and one tv station. I looked pretty rag-tag as I just grabbed my rain coat and ran out the door..yuk; I hope they don't use the footage. I think it was really funny that one local reporter who I guess is really well known started to ask me questions and I turned to her and asked her who she was. My friend was standing behind me and she told the reporter that I don't have a tv to explain the fact that I had no clue she was famous. So funny.
Sarah was gorgeous and very gracious and I am thrilled to have a signed copy of her book.
http://www.roanoke.com/photography/slideshows/galleries/1122_palin/gallery.html
pictures 31 and 32 are that guy tito munoz, aka tito the builder!
I thought it was hilarious to see the cops holding back Andrea.
Didn't Andrea Mitchell look like Gollum (Lord of the Rings) peering out from under a rock?
"My Precioussssssssssssssssssssssssss........"
;-)
Hi, just posted a comment on C4P describing her visit to Asheville. She signed my book and so did her Dad1
LUCKY YOU, CONGRATS!
Ohhhh Kathy I'm SOOO HAPPY For you!!! YOU GOT A HUG???? AWWWW!!!!!
(and to think I know someone who has been HUGGED by Sarah!!)
wow - drat if I was still living up there I would have been at the airport with you (especially since I lived about 3 miles from it) jeeeeeeez how cool!
T I T O!!!!
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA KATHY!!! W00T!!! ^5 GF!!
Thanks for the story!Sorry you had to fight through such a big crowd!(for the sarc sisters) Sarah is so gracious to everyone!
And for Sarah and Billy Graham, that is wonderful.A great man.
THAT IS SO AWESOME. your SO lucky!! WOW what an experience
Just to clarify, the reason the crowd was so small as no one knew about it until the last minute. Even the reporter from the Citizen-Times here in Asheville didn't find out until about 10:30 this morning and she was in Raleigh visiting family; she had to race to get here on time.
That is awesome P4L. We know Sarah loves PUMAs. I think you all are her secret weapon in 2012. Did you catch "Lady" Lynn over the weekend? She's still a huge fan.
No, I didn't catch Lady Lynn...what was i about? I like Lynn.
Good 4 min video of Sarah at Asheville.
http://www.citizen-times.com/article/20091122/NEWS01/91122008
Speaking of her Graham visit, and taking questions from the press.
Now if she would get a Christmas invite from Margaret Thatcher...
Sarah has said she will consider(2012) if we want her to. Yes, Sarah, yes. Hell, yes!
Good vid. But uh oh, notice her voice is cracking already, just like the last few days of last year's campaign. Hope she can rest up and not talk over the Thanksgiving break ...
Also significant that B. Graham has met with every president going back to Truman, I think.
And now he will have met with Sarah Palin. :)
Well, they were talking with Lady Lynn and Carli Fiorini about the treatment of women in politics. It was basically a rehash of last year's misogyny fest over Hillary and Sarah.
They played that clip of Hillary smiling broadly and accepting the "coffee" invite from Sarah.
Lady Lynn reiterated her continued support for BOTH Sarah and Hillary. It's just good to see someone with principles like that.
Nicole
Where was this? Do you have a link?
It was on Fox. I don't have the link, but it was posted around here somewhere.
It is a good sign....
Oh and how do you like my response to some of the haters over on the Seattle Times. I'm thinking of doing a blog post for Sheya on this:
You might be raging misogynist if ....
You supported Howard Dean who ran a state with less population and 60 times less land mass than Alaska, but think Sarah Palin is unqualified to run for president.
You might be raging misogynist if ....
You voted for Bill Clinton who oversaw a state budget of $2 billion -- six times smaller than Alaska's $12 billion -- but think Sarah Palin has no executive experience.
You might be raging misogynist if ....
You voted for Dr. Utopia/Barack Obama after he spent 150 working days in the U.S. Senate, but think Sarah's 2 1/2 years running Alaska is a disqualifier.
You might be raging misogynist if ....
You think Obama's part-time job in the Illinois state legislature was more important than Sarah Palin's full-time job managing the city of Wasilla.
You might be raging misogynist if ....
You hate Hillary Clinton.
You might be raging misogynist if ....
You think Sarah is stupid for saying "You betcha" but don't have a problem with Obama saying "Wee Weed up."
You might be raging misogynist if ....
You can't help yourself from clicking on every article about Sarah Palin and commenting just so you can demean her, her state, her intelligence, and her family while claiming ludicrously that she is "irrelevant."
There are several photos of Palin's visit to Asheville here at this link including Sarah signing mhy book and hugging me. For some reason, my computer just freezes up if I attempt to copy or email the photos.

Nice Hug Puma, was that Clint Eastwood with you?
For "rag-tag" ya look pretty good to me! ;-)
I wish...I have no clue who that man is but I wish I did...
They missed my face; my makeup was gone, at least what I had managed to get on there. Compared to Sarah, I am pretty sloppy....she is something else.
Great pictures Puma. Oh, and I especially loved the one of the governor smiling at Trig, and you can see the side of his face.
I have just finished Going Rogue. Without spoiling it for the folks that haven't finished it, just loved the part about Andrea and slimed...

I finished my booksigning write-up on Cincinnati and Columbus and also my time in Medina with Lisa Woods of MCFAN and TeamSarah and her family on Saturday. I may ask C4P to excerpt/link to the Part I about Friday's events depending on where it gets posted.
Hey did anybody laugh like I did at Andrea Mitchell getting held back by the security guy while questioning Palin and then handing her a Newsweek? Hilarious. They are so shamelessly and pathetically desperate it is like watching a cocaine addict spill some and try to sniff it off dirty ground. Unbelievable.
The MSM are like serpents with their forked tongues.
Thanks for the link. Great pics.
OK C4Pers, question of the day: Who is the mystery lady with glasses and black hair in a ponytail helping Sarah with the books at the tables at all the booksignings. I have my suspicions.
:)
YES!!!!!!!!
you looked great. I am very happy for you.
I think that's Tina Andreadis, a spokesperson for HarperCollins who is traveling with Sarah.
Thanks KeeleyH.
Thank you all who have posted phots and videos. Not knocking the guys but Iit is so great to see all the young women at these events. Hopefully Gov PAlin's efforts will inspire some of these girls to get involved in politics. Even if she never runs for another political office she has changed how we view our politicians - they CAN be people of character.
