Politico and the Art of the One-Sided Story
As we've already noted, the Associated Press illegally obtained a copy of Gov. Palin's book to give themselves and others a chance to misreport it and put a negative spin on it before she could legally reply. Predictably, among the "others" following suit with a hatchet piece is Politico, which saw fit to run a completely one-sided piece by Andy Barr (what, was Jonathan Martin busy?) giving the McCain campaign point of view unchallenged and unbalanced by any countervailing comments, facts, or observations.
Of course, they can't admit to having done so, which leads to perhaps the most galling single line in the story, its final line: "Palin did not respond to a request for comment." Of course she didn't, as she couldn't, as they knew she couldn't when they made the request—she's currently embargoed from commenting on the book because of contracts negotiated for interviews that have not yet run. (One suspects Oprah's not very happy with the AP at this point.) Their request for comment was a pure sham. Had Barr actually been interested in doing anything other than writing an utterly slanted attack piece, he wouldn't have contacted Gov. Palin, he would have contacted Randy Scheunemann, Steve Biegun and other McCain campaign staffers who stayed loyal to Gov. Palin (when Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace decided to try to blame the failure of the campaign on her instead of taking it themselves) and asked them what they remembered. But Barr didn't want to do that—it might have called the credibility of his hit piece into question.
Which is exactly what it deserves. Though the bulk of his quotes come from the self-justifying Mark Salter, Salter doesn't actually contradict what we've seen of Gov. Palin's book—he simply offers a lot of carefully-phrased consultant-speak. For it to sound like Salter is attacking her, Barr needed a rhetorical body blow, which Salter could then seem to be reinforcing. As such, people can take Salter's quotes as meaning more than he actually said, which is disingenuous at best on Barr's part.
More disingenuous is the source of Barr's body blow, which comes a quote from "former McCain strategist John Weaver." In fact, this is worse than merely disingenuous, because Barr lets the uninformed reader assume that Weaver was with the campaign when Palin arrived; he doesn't talk about the fact that Weaver became a former McCain strategist in the summer of 2007—nor does he mention why that was. For that, consider what David Brooks wrote in February 2008:
The staff of the McCain campaign had a rude awakening last Jan. 25th. They opened The Washington Post and found a front-page story linking McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, to the Russian aluminum magnate Oleg Deripaska. Who, some wondered, was feeding damaging information about Davis to the press?
Speculation inevitably settled, as it must in McCain World, upon John Weaver. For nearly a decade, stories about the inner workings of the McCain apparatus inevitably involved the Weaver-Davis rivalry. These two McCain advisers share a mutual hatred, one McCainiac told me Thursday, that is total, absolute and blinding.
The tensions, which divided the McCain presidential campaign until Weaver was forced out last summer, exist on many levels. . . .
Weaver is a renegade. He has a darker personality.
The occasion for Brooks' column was the story the New York Times ran in February of '08 in which they implied that John McCain had had an affair with a lobbyist, and that his behavior with her was politically as well as personally inappropriate.
At the core of that article that began on the front page are two anonymous sources. These sources, according to the article, say they confronted McCain in 1999 with their concerns that he was risking his career by interacting with Vicki Iseman. As a columnist, I’m an independent operator, speaking for myself alone. I have no idea who those sources are. But they are bound to come from the inner circle of the McCain universe. The number of people who could credibly claim to have had a meeting like that with McCain in early 1999 is vanishingly small. I count a small handful of associates with that stature, including Davis and Weaver. There is nobody in that tight circle unaffected by the hostilities that emanate from the rift.
Thursday, as McCain was fervently and completely denying the allegations of an affair with Iseman, people in all quarters of the McCain universe were vehemently denying it, too. But even on this embattled day, they broke down into rival camps over the identity of the sources.
Many in the Davis camp argued Thursday that Weaver must be the chief anonymous source, and that he had roped in one other confederate. He’s had a hard life, they said, and is driven by demons.
Their conclusion was reasonable, with one small correction: Weaver wasn't an anonymous source, he was in fact the only source named in the article. Having been forced out, he publicly contributed to, and probably instigated, a hatchet job on his former boss—a hatchet job so poorly supported that the McCain campaign beat the Times bloody over it, resulting in the interesting spectacle of the NYT's executive editor, Bill Keller, blaming the NYT's readers for the fiasco.
In short, Barr used for the core of his attack on Gov. Palin a source who simply is not credible, both because of his personal track record and because he was long gone from the McCain campaign when Gov. Palin came on the scene. Any competent reporter would have known this—but Weaver's willing to play dirty and he's willing to play nasty, and that's what Barr wanted, so he ran the quotes anyway. Shame on him. And shame on Politico for running it.
And for that matter, shame on Salter and the rest of the McCain staffers (though Weaver is probably beyond shame) for their willingness to be used like this, to the detriment of their party and of their former boss—because the only thing this kind of wrangling does for him is to remind people just how badly his campaign was run—if only it will help them convince a few people that the failure of that campaign was everybody's fault but theirs. Clearly, they're looking out for no one but themselves and no cause but their own, and it's truly pathetic. Dan Riehl has their number:
It's hard to not laugh at these nitwits who ran such a dismal campaign, then spent months blaming Palin from the shadows, having suddenly discovered self-righteous anger so they can start to pop off, again. They should give up professional campaigning, buy up some tents and animals, traveling the back roads of America from now on. At least then people wouldn't cringe when they found out Schmidt's circus was coming to town. Their biggest challenge might be getting Nicole Wallace to grow a beard. But she's made herself over so many times, it might be worth a shot.
Meet the losers behind the loser McCain. Funny that so many people associated with the effort who don't cling to the camera for a living believe they were even worse than the book would seem to make out. If some of the old line politicians are the first people who have to get out of Washington because they stayed too long, they need to pack up their hack consultants incapable of dealing with politics, technology and new media today to run a truly effective campaign.
At least Palin has options and a huge following. These idiots can look forward to running races for drunken Ward bosses and county sheriffs if there's any justice in the world. They don't even appear to know when to shut-up. Not a big surprise, the alleged top guys in the campaign always did seem to be competing with the candidate for media face time. I wonder who they were really working for in the end? If it was McCain, the campaign, their many subsequent excuses and the final result tell you all you need to know about that.
When Riehl calls them "McCain's morons," he's not blowing smoke. In the end, their defense comes down to this: "We're the savvy ones, we're the ones who know how to run a campaign, and Palin was the stupid one who doesn't." Well, given how badly that campaign ended, and given how effectively Gov. Palin has been campaigning against the President's agenda with just a fraction of the resources they had at their command, how credible a position is that, anyway? If it's a contest based on who's proven themselves the more politically effective, who are you going to believe—the guys who went down in flames, or the woman who's still going?

Good write up
I prefer to read more positive comments going into this final leg of Palin book release. Politico Arena commentators had fair reviews of Gov. Palin political future.
++++++
On another note, whoever buy the movie rights to "Going Rogue" is going to make a huge profit. If the book is made into a movie, I am suggesting now that Actress Angie Harmon plays Palin.
In fact some nmeeds to draft Angie Harmon website to play Palin. lol

Sarah Palin has already made a political comeback. Her best-selling book and the flood of notices concerning up coming media appearances have generated enough publicity to reinforce loyalty among those who already support her politics. Her book roll-out is among perhaps the most anticipated openings in years, attesting to either her intelligence or willingness to take good advice. Whatever she says in the interviews, so long as she is colorful and doesn’t mangle the English language too much, will redound to her advantage. She will remain a live possibility, depending on the issues for 2012. And who knows, if the extended count in the New York 23 turns out to give the conservative Hoffman the victory, that will just reinforce her standing.

I’m looking forward to buying her book. Sarah Palin is exciting and is a huge draw, but she still has a long way to go to prove she’s of presidential timber. Her image was damaged so badly in 2008 that she faces a very steep mountain to climb. I will be interested to learn if she can demonstrate enough substance and depth to make that climb.

Former Tennessee Republican Chair Chip Saltsman weighs in on Palin:
On Palin’s book
I have only read the excerpts but when I get the book I think it is going to be an interesting read, but she is certainly defending herself in the book and taking shots at folks from the McCain camp that she blames during the process.
What do you think her political future holds?
Pretty simple either she runs for president or doesn’t.
2012 or 2016?
2012 is her time. She has a lot of momentum and if she runs it has to be 2012.
Do you think she is good for the GOP?
Sure. I have a candidate that is thinking about it but she is a great voice for the party in many ways. Of course, if everyone got out and Huckabee was the only one that would be great, but the more the better in primaries – that is good for the party.
I like Sandra Bullack
As for Politico:
Once again the limp wristed left proves that the only way they can shore up their impotent ratings is by commenting on Mrs. Palin.
After all she's HOT and they're NOT!
What gentlemen they are. Punching her while her hands are behind her back.
It seems the AP and company have to get the headlines now. They're going to be drowned out by Mrs. Palin herself next week. When will they learn that no one wanted to hear from them anyway.
Shut-up guys YOU BORE US!
I just want to ask everyone to be extra vigilant online this weekend. The hit pieces and smear jobs are coming fast and furious. As stated in this fine write-up, she cannot legally respond to any of it. Please leave supportive comments wherever you see the need. Take a few extra moments to help Governor Palin out.
She has a staff but her "political machine" is the people..You and me.
Thank You!

dont know if this is real, but here it is.
Rob, thanks!... your a human shredding machine!
Thanks a million for shredding McCain's.. Top Secret!... CLASSIFIED CAMPAIGN DOCUMENT!... which is that Gov. Palin was to blame for the errors of GROSSLY INCOMPETENT Lieutenants ... and at the TOP of that structure was the GENERAL himself, one... John S. McCain!
Sarah would never in her lifetime... in my opinion!... cast upon publicly, or for that matter privately, any negativity upon McCains heroic American Hero status... I therefore have trepidation's... but how can we deny what role he played in his lack of leadership in the fiasco!
Have you seen the Newsweek cover???? Those comments on the cover are disgusting.
Just don't buy newsweek and tell your friends to drop their subscription. CLearly, sexism in that cover. Would they do it to Obama bowing down to leaders?
Posted this on the Open Thread, but man, people move upthread fast around here. Here it is again and yes, it's Off Topic:
<span>Okay, I know most of us dislike Hardball, Matthews, and MSNBC, but this clip is Chrissie Matthews declaring that Sarah Palin will be the nominee. He praises her instincts - compares them to Ronald Reagan. He said "she knows who the boss is and that's the voter." Which is why, he says, she's always aware of the camera. Someone on Sarah's FB page posted the link and I must say, I am quite surprised.

I thought Sandra was a liberal. Anyway, I've started a topic discussion about it over on Amazon. The trolls are making sure the dab reviews stay in focus. We need to keep the positrive topics in view and not comment on the negative topics.

I don't know about you guys... but Im sick and tired of hearing, from friends and foes alike, ... "Sarah needs to study up on policy issues!"... WHAT PART OF HER FACEBOOK DO THEY NOT UNDERSTAND!!!
Filled with Policy and Critical Analysis is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!.... SARAH, single-handedly, is the one VOICE WE HEAR ABOVE ALL OTHERS... she's carrying 10 tons of weight on her broad shoulders... while they sip their lemonade in the shade of the old status quo!!
THANK YOU SARAH!!... GOD BLESS YOU!... you are strengthening us with your restless boldness for America!
Money Maven,
excellent research, thanks.
Most people who read Newsweek will realize the problem is that she is the real deal, and everyone knows it.
Wow yougi...That gave me goosebumps top hear Mathews so positive about Palin. The things this woman went though. FInally the MSM is gettign to see the real, authentic woman that she is.
Wow! I had to pick my jaw off the floor after watching that video.
Chris Mathews is a political fan and has always recognized the talent that Palin possesses. His motive is to see a Palin vs. Obama matchup in 2012, which seems inevitable. It would be historic. So I would like to amend his statement by saying, not only Romney and Huckabee watch out, but Barak Obama you should watch out as well.
Let them continue to underestimate her, but when she stands on the stage with Obama, it will be just awesome to behold her undress him on the major issues come 2012 to the pleasant surprise of the electorate.
Palin on the cover of the next Newsweek:
<span><span>http://www.politico.com/static/PPM130_dom_11_23_09.html</span></span>
<span><span></span></span>
"How do you solve a problem like Sarah? She's bad for the GOP - and everybody else, too"
Looking forward ro reading this, I am sure it will be fair and ethically balanced.
Wow. Great clip. Thanks. As a former Democrat, I used to watch Chris Matthews all the time, and I actually felt that whatever else you might say about him he is a true political JUNKIE. He loves politics, and I think he recognizes in Sarah Palin a genuine political talent and senses the excitement she brings to the national stage. He also shows that when it comes to tingles up the leg, maybe he's an equal opportunity guy: He didn't say it, but you KNOW he gets a tingle up his leg watching Sarah. Ha!
Btw, I just thought of a great basketball analogy for the inexperience argument they always (uselessly) try to throw at people like Sarah (and before her, people like Barack, ha!)
LeBron James didn't go to college, right? And he won the MVP of the NBA and has been to two Finals. Kobe Bryant didn't go to college and has won 4 championships, and one MVP.
At age 18, Lebron and Kobe were ready to compete at the highest level, bypassing college. Sometimes college basketball is helpful to polish talent... other times it's just a holding tank for the less talented. The same is true of time spent in Congress or the statehouse, ha!
For exquisitely talented politicians like Sarah Palin and Barack Obama, they're obviously destined for greater things than either the statehouse in Juneau or the halls of Congress.
And for someone to suggest that Sarah Palin is not "qualified" to be president is like someone suggesting 6 years ago that LeBron James was not "qualified" to play in the NBA.
The nice thing about sports and politics is you prove your qualifications. LeBron James was either going to be a star or bust. He had to prove himself.
And the same is true of Sarah. I laugh when people keep saying she'll be bad for the GOP or shouldn't run for president. Well, if she runs, she'll either win or lose. It's a simple as that. I don't get all this pre-emptive stuff trying to proclaim her as unable to win. She'll either win or lose. And she has a perfect right to try.
p.s. Chris Matthews mentioned the camera savviness Sarah has and I noticed that as well. I also noticed that when Oprah asked her about Couric, Sarah laughed, jokingly said "Must we?" and then Oprah got defensive and said "Well, you talked about it in the book." and Sarah gave a quick "dagger" look to the audience that was quite telling. Oprah couldn't see it, but the camera caught it. It was a look of complete disgust like (yes, Oprah, I wrote about it in the book because I knew morons like you and everyone else in the media would ask me about it, and of course, the Katie Couric interview is so much more important than discussing our nation's energy independence or anything substantive I wrote about in my book.)
I think that hit piece helps her. It exposes the blantant bias of the leftist, pro-government (which in America is scary) press... Not to mention she looks very patriotic in that shot. There is that distiction between her and the Bower in Chief.
Erick Erickson has a good post about this: http://www.redstate.com/erick/2009/11/14/does-this-mean-newsweek-stands-in-for-the-nazis/
YOGY41 Thank to for that Hardball clip. WOW
sarah 2012
That's a terrible title. It sounds like they're inciting people to take violent action against Sarah. Asking how to "solve" a "problem" that is "bad for everybody" is getting into some pretty dangerous territory. I could easily see some leftist loony toon taking that as validation in trying to kill her.
The people at Nesweek should be ashamed at themselves
No. The point is-don't pick up Newsweak-don't even give them the satisfaction of an online hit.
If you have a subscription, cancel it.
Newsweak last year decided to trade towards the liberal demographic, this is just the latest outrage from Meacham in what has to be the result of a coordinated hit campaign from the White House.
JohnDoe......Rush say's it all the time, the Libs, will tell you who they FEAR
I think she looks GREAT in that photo.
sarah 2012
I prefer a smackdown to an undressing. :-)
Actually, they're being unintentionally favorable to her... I started humming the Rodgers and Hammerstein song from Sound of Music. How do you solve a problem like Maria?
Well, Newsweek, if that's the image (and soundtrack) you want us to have about Sarah, you might want to pick your "villains" more appropriate.
Maria von Trapp (played unfogettably by Julie Andrews) won the heart of the children, and the captain, and arguably was the most mesmerizing figure on the big screen in the 1960s. If they're casting allusions to the Sound of Music, let's not forget the magestic wedding scene where the orchestra played "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" as she strolled down the aisle to be married. She was the HERO, not the villain.
I kinda picture that scene for Sarah's innauguration in 2013 ... pure AWE.
I have a question...O/T...did we just have a thread on Alaska...2008 article....that has been removed?
Yeah, it was a shocker. One of her FB supporters posted it there, so the thanks goes to him. I never would have known this clip was out there, since I don't watch that channel.
i saw it and read it and went to comment on it and now it is gone. I'm not sure what happened Mia.
unseen, a poster at HotAir, posted this tidbit about her book. It's from the Huffington Post. Apparently, Steve Schmidt tried to put her on a more balanced diet, thinking she ate too much protein. LOL! Here it is, as posted by unseen:
"I HAVE GOT TO READ THIS BOOK!
HUFFPOST banner – “PALIN TAKES AIM: Rips McCain Campaign, Steve Schmidt In ‘Going Rogue’… Gives Thanks To ‘Fair And Balanced Media Folks’” – by Sam Stein and Lila Shapiro: “Clocking in at over 400 pages, ‘Going Rogue’ is, at its heart, one giant complaint with the conduct of John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign. At the nexus of Palin’s grievances lies [Steve] Schmidt, a character cast as out of touch, overly cautious, and vindictive. … Peppered throughout are a stream of insulting descriptions of Schmidt and others of the ‘professional political caste.’ … At one point during the campaign, Schmidt discussed his hopes of getting a nutritionist on the bus. Palin, first assuming that it’s for the entire staff, compliments the idea. Only then, does Schmidt tell her, ‘No, it’s for you… You gotta get off that Atkins Diet.’ Palin, writing up the incident months later, couldn’t help but comment on Schmidt’s ‘rotund physique.’ … ‘I’m not on the Atkins Diet, Steve.’ … ‘Don’t you know what a high-protein diet does?’ he asked, ignoring what I had just said. … I interrupted his lecture. ‘Steve, you know what I really need? Half an hour to go for a run in these beautiful cities we’re visiting. Also, seeing my kids does wonders for my soul.’ He barreled on as if I hadn’t spoken. ‘Headquarters is flying in a nutritionist, and for three days you’re going to be on a diet balanced in carbohydrates and nitrates and –’ … I had a humbling experience while we were back in Wasilla for the Charlie Gibson interview in September. … While the crews turned my kitchen into a television studio, I took Nicolle into my bedroom and showed her what I thought I should pack for the trail. She flipped through my wardrobe with a raised eyebrow. ‘No… no… no…,’ she said as she slid each garment aside on its hanger.’”
If half of this stuff is true….McCain’s people were utter morons

Cafepress now has t shirts etc with the Going Rogue Book Cover
http://www.cafepress.com/sarahgoingrogue
I started humming that tune also. You make a good point about how that story ended :)
I always knew that THEY know this. The Beltway Repubs are the ones who don't (or pretend they don't) get it. They're the ones (see Ari Fleishcer's comment above) who always throw in the caviat that "She's great-<span>BUT</span>-she has a long way to go to undo the damage...", etc.
The fact is that she's almost the prohibitive frontrunner already--polls notwithstanding--and she's hitting it out of the park with these interviews. Huck/Pawlenty are laughable at this point, and Health Care's destroyed Romney...where the hell IS Romney anyway?!
I've always noticed her hand gestures and the way she moves on the podium (as Matthews apparently has)--how the timing is almost frighteningly perfect. The way she moves "on stage" reminds me of (and from me this is a HUGE compliment) the way Jagger moved in his prime--a really good looking, female Mick Jagger (lol). I always kind of leaned toward Keith Richards, but you can't take your eyes off Jagger at a concert. Same with Sarah. They're both fine athletes which explains a lot. Similar hand gestures!...I swear!
lol. I love this book already. Sounds like McCain staffers were some abonoxious elitist out of touch with real Americans. lol
Check out Chris Matthews, he says, "look out Romney, look out Huckabee, she's coming"

Thank you my child...I thought I was having a "Moment"...
in an excerpt from the WSJ. Palin said she didnt shake oliver stone's hand when she met him at SNL. Didnt want to be shaking hands with a guy who loves the communist Hugo Chavez. GOOD for Sarah.
796,000 Sarah Palin products. On 11-09-09 this story said it was up to 960,000 products
http://www.politico.com/click/stories/0911/palin_products_soar.html
, and when I checked right after reading this article I checked and it had increased to 966,000 products.
Why has it dropped so far, did they sell 170,000 products in less than one week, that would be incredible.
Jeffrey A. Trachtenberg reports on politics.
One of the more unexpected aspects of the campaign was the emergence of actress Tina Fey as her stand-in on the television show “Saturday Night Live,” Sarah Palin writes in her new book, “Going Rogue: An American Life.”
“I had liked some seasons of SNL since I was a teenager, sneaking around to watch it so my parents wouldn’t catch me,” Palin writes. “So when she began impersonating me, it was a bit surreal.”
When she finally met Fey while preparing to appear on the show, Palin says, the actress was “friendly and gracious.” And when the two women were together, Fey’s young daughter, Alice, found the experience confusing. “Without managers and handlers swarming around–“Don’t say this, don’t say that”–it was just a nice mom moment,” writes Palin.
Also on the show that evening, she writes, were Alec Baldwin, Josh Brolin, Mark Wahlberg, the singer Adele, and the director Oliver Stone. Stone, she writes, is a “supporter of Communist dictator Hugo Chavez” who once referred to the president as “the devil himself.”
Palin says she refused to shake Stone’s hand.
The high point may have come when the lights dimmed, she suggested. “Then I stepped onto the famous set and got to say the words that have become a permanent part of American culture: ‘Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night.’”
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2009/11/13/palins-book-mom-moment-with-tina-fey/
Well said. Sarah has every right to run for the presidency if she wants to. There is a process called campaigning, and she will either win or lose. As someone said earlier, it makes you wonder why the left is so interested in helping the GOP avoid losses.
;)
Do you all remember this Newsweek cover during the campaign?
http://slog.thestranger.com/files/2008/10/palin_newsweek.jpg
On the cover it says, "She's one of the folks (and that's the problem)".
They have been negative towards her from the beginning. You can't tell in the photo, but they didn't airbrush it. Watch this clip, and you'll see what I mean:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlKcCg9vAoY
This isn't the first time Newsweek has been trashy.
btw... last set of phone interviews this week for my AK job. Once cleared... will head out for in person interviews and check out locations...
Sarah will not tolerate anti-Americanism. Brace for more attacks from the Hollywood left.
Recovering Democrat,
I was wondering if those looks were specifically to her mom, who I think was in the audience, or Willow. Either to get strength, to answer the question, or as a look of, "you and I have talked about this", or "oh brother, we knew it would come up, just like we talked about", or "if I could only say what I really think, ya know!"
Good for you!!!...Wish you Luck!!!
This about 4 of these stories in the Book Overview section. Check link botton right
The McCain campaign staffers won't like this book, they will be calling her names no doubt. But, for anyone who weren't involved with the campaign, it's kinda a fun read. LOL.
Huffpost called it "one giant complaint"? You'd have thought all 400 or so pages are about the McCain campaign. I hope there are some fun stuff about her childhood and her family. Wouldn't want the campaign soap opera to overshadow her life story.
How could something that is bad for the GOP be bad for "everyone else" as well? If Sarah is bad for the GOP, wouldn't it be good for everyone else who is not the GOP? It makes one wonder...
yogi41
Thanks for the link... Chris Matthew's
I have hope this is true... but considering the source Im skeptical, real skeptical!... that It's a sincere honest opinion of thinking Sarah is qualified and would be good for America... rather one of praise and hope she is chosen only to go down in humiliating defeat... A false witness!
Well, Obama and Palin are natural rivals. Regardless of politics, we can admire Obama's rise from obscurity. He and Sarah are like opposite sides of the same coin. Obama used his race, his oratory, and his political talents to achieve power. Sarah has used all the weapons at her disposal, including her looks, her poise, her intelligence, and her fierce moral courage.
It would almost be a disappointment if the two didn't get to go one-on-one against each other. History is calling for this showdown.
Back in 1996, Ari Fleisher would probably have told Kobe Bryant to go to college, you know, to study up. Thanks Ari ...
Good point. ha! See how lame they are? They patronize her. They patronize the GOP. And they patronize the American public. In other words, Newsweek is saying: Pay no attention to Sarah, pay attention us. We know know best even though our industry is disintegrating before our eyes, like the wicked witch after being doused with water.
They may as well tell people not to eat pizza as to not pay attention to Sarah Palin.
The fact they're running her on their cover is a complete contradiction.
Recovering Democrat,
That's perfect! Someone should re-write the lyrics for <span>"How do you solve a problem like Maria?" and make it "How do you solve a problem like Sarah?"!</span>
This is the only way to counter those vicious headlines -- with humor and a dose of "The Sound of Music". :)
I sure noticed her look.. first thought maybe she was just gauging the audience reaction... didn't know her mother was there... something had to be going on, she doesn't do many things haphazardly!
I've heard that it contains a lot of biographical info about growing up in Alaska, working her way through college as a waitress, and working in the fish processing industry. I'm surprised that the left hasn't been digging through the stuff she has to say about religious faith, love of country, love of state, and love of family. Rush says that there is a lot of policy info in the book, particularly energy, taxes, environmental stuff. I think it will be a great read, and the more the left hammers it, the more people will buy it to see for themselves.
Mia
I can't imagine you having "A" moment... all your moments are a wonder to behold... heaven forbid we ever see the "A" moment!
Well, the chapters are long. Maybe one of the five chapters is about the McCain campaign, or maybe two of the five. But I'm certain that Sarah includes stories about her childhood, meeting Todd, serving in city government and certainly her time as governor. I would also imagine she'll share the special stories from her rallies last year, meeting people from all over America.
The irony of the cover is that they used this photo of Sarah looking all mother of five happy, healthy and patriotic next to the American flag, yet, the headline almost suggests she's some devil incarnate, long lost sister of Osama Bin Laden or something. LOL.
Yeah!... wish you good fortune, sound interesting!
Maybe they recorded her saying "live from NY" but in the actual show it was Tina Fey saying it, if I recall correctly.
RD
A smackdown does sound good... by the way!... hope to somehow see you at the College Of The Ozarks!
The question is wil the media report on the parts about her family and her childhood. I fear they will ignore her life story and the inspirational parts of the book and focus only on her "complaints" about the campaign.
More excerpts, with Schmidt calling Palin's book "false and fiction". No wonder. Not only does she say he put her on a diet, here's more of his wonderful personality on display:
WASHINGTON (CNN) - John McCain's former presidential campaign manager Steve Schmidt is the latest McCain adviser to cry foul over accusations Sarah Palin has penned in her yet to be released memoir "Going Rogue."
Excerpts obtained by The Huffington Post characterize Schmidt in an unfavorable light, particularly in reference to the prank phone call Palin received from someone pretending to be French President Nicolas Sarkozy. "Right away, the phones started ringing," Palin writes. "One of the first calls was Schmidt, and the force of his screaming blew my hair back. 'How can anyone be so stupid?! Why would the president of France call a vice presidential candidate a few days out?!'"
In a telephone conversation with CNN's John King, Schmidt said how he is described and portrayed in the book is "fanciful. [And] total fiction."
In the excerpts, Palin also claims Schmidt tried to put her on a strict eating regimen, and in a conversation with Randy Scheunemann, a McCain foreign policy adviser, he had blamed the campaigns problems on Palin's "postpartum depression."
"Schmidt started in again, telling Randy what an awful pick I was - the "postpartum" problems, the wardrobe "scandal," "legal exposure" for Todd on Troopergate, whatever he meant by that," Palin writes according to the published excerpts.
In October, during The Atlantic magazine's First Draft of History Conference, Schmidt predicted to CNN's John King that he would be portrayed as "anti-rogue in the running of the campaign."

Regarding Newsweaaaaaaaak!
They always say "If you got "IT" flaunt "IT"
News weaaaaak!... you don't have "IT"... your circulation proves you don't... your brain-yaks don't have it!... Your cover of the beautiful, talented Governor- the one that really has "IT"! .... also PROVES you don't have a clue...
Better name for you magazine....NewsWHACKS!!!
It's shaping up as inevitable--the showdown everyone knows is coming.
Actually, there might be more of a question about Obama being the nominee than
Sarah the way things are going. IMO, whoever gets the Repub nomination is
the next POTUS. Things are unraveling fast for O and the Chicago/Leftist
thugs who run him. The MSM too!
system.
I am getting worried. Can these people who are named in Palin book sue her? I don't recall many political memoirs using real names of people
Did you know there was a book signing in Springfield earlier that day? Contact me through my FB page, and maybe we could find each other. I'm meeting my cousin there. She is just as rabid about Palin as I am ... We're trying to figure out how to sell some T-shirts and bumper stickers to pay for our trip. Didn't someone here on C4P do that up in Milwaukee? Does anybody know if you would have to get a biz license or could u just show up at the venue with stuff to sell?

I saw it, too, but it was a story from last October, so maybe blogger had a tech blip?
Nope, it was Sarah. And the camera zooms in on her face. The SNL couldn't help it, the camera just loves her! I remember cracking up when that happened. :)
Remember Tina was at the podium but then Sarah and she pass as Tina walks off and Sarah takes the podium? She gets the show's classic line.
These are the same people who think it's "corny" to be proud of America. Sarah is an existential trheat to the last 40 years of America bashing. I would argue she is even more threatening to the media than Reagan because she represents a shift in the media from traditional outlets to alternatives. The more they bash her, the more people see that the media is morally bankrupt.
Well, they always do that. Clinton wrote a 1000-page memoir, and people only asked him about Lewinsky. Just sayin' ... Media are dogs. They always have been. :)
The lyrics ... My favorite line? "How do you catch a moonbeam in your hand?" And that's exactly what libs and RINOs are trying to do with Sarah. They can't solve the "Sarah problem" because she's not a problem. She's phenomenon.
The Nuns:
BERTHE:
She climbs a tree
And scrapes her knee
Her dress has got a tear.
SOPHIA:
She waltzes on her way to mass
And whistles on the stair.
BERTHE:
And underneath her wimpole
She has curlers in her hair!
SOPHIA:
I ever hear her singing in the abbey.
BERTHE:
She's always late for chapel,
MARGARETTA:
But her penitence is real.
BERTHE:
She's always late for everything,
Except for every meal.
MOTHER ABBESS:
I hate to have to say it
But I very firmly feel
BERTHE AND SOPHIA:
Maria's not an asset to the abbey!
MARGARETTA:
I'd like to say a word in her behalf.
Maria makes me laugh!
SOPHIA:
How do you solve a problem like Maria?
MOTHER ABBESS:
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
MARGARETTA:
How do you find a word that means Maria?
BERTHE:
A flibberti gibbet!
SOPHIA:
A willo' the wisp!
MARGARETTA:
A clown!
MOTHER ABBESS:
Many a thing you know you'd like to tell her,
Many a thing she ought to understand.
MARGARETTA:
But how do you make her stay
And listen to all you say,
MOTHER ABBESS:
How do you keep a wave upon the sand?
MARGARETTA:
Oh, how do you solve a problem like Maria?
MOTHER ABBESS:
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?
MARGARETTA:
When I'm with her I'm confused,
Out of focus and bemused,
And I never know exactly where I am.
SOPHIA:
Unpredictable as weather,
She's as flighty as a feather,
MARGARETTA:
She's a darling,
BERTHE:
She's a demon,
MARGARETTA:
She's a lamb.
SOPHIA:
She'd out-pester any pest,
Drive a hornet from his nest,
BERTHE:
She can throw a whirling dervish
Out of whirl.
MARGARETTA:
She is gentle,
She is wild,
SOPHIA:
She's a riddle.
MARGARETTA:
She's a child.
BERTHE:
She's a headache!
MARGARETTA:
She's an angel!
MOTHER ABBESS:
She's a girl.

Wow this is big news.
Schmidt is gonna claim that he didn't yell at Palin? And that somehow being accused of being an asshole has damaged him more than running one of the world's worst presidential campaigns in history?
This is rich! I can NOT wait to devour this book.
OH, that's right. I was thinking that Tina was at the podium, but she runs away when the real Sarah appears. Someone should post Sarah's SNL moments. I thought she did great.
Can you imagine if McCain had won the election and these campaign staffers would've been in charge of the White House? My God this country would've died. I'm not saying Obama's team is fantastic, but McCain's team was horrendous!
These leaks were coming out during the campaign, "post partum depression" and such. Schmidt's going to rationalize these comments, not deny them, how can he when these comments were floating around during the campaign?
nothing we have seen so far would come close to meriting a lawsuit- and truth is a defense anyway. at first i was discouraged by the attacks on the book but the more you read them the more you see that they really don't have anything that contradicts her. even the ap fact checking has been rendered silly
Beehive,
Mike Allen of Politico is reporting it: http://www.politico.com/playbook/
You have to scroll down and click to read the entire post to find it.
Matthews is back and forth. One day he talks her up and than the Obama nut jobs call and he talks her down.
Can she sue them for a hate crime?
That might be from the fake book.
They can't sue her because she is being 100 percent HONEST. I believe Nicolle Wallace and Steve Schmidt were the two people in that campaign that were pure evil from day 1. They never liked her, they never wanted her to be the VP voice, they wanted Romney, and when McCain did not want Romney, they decided that if they lost the campaign, they would pin the loss on her, make her the scapegoat, that is what happened. I cant wait to read this book, what I am hearing what happened to Sarah, is downright disgusting. Controlling what she wore, controlling what she ate..unbelievable..what, was Schmidt afraid she would leave a carbon footprint or something..this whole campaign and the way they treated her, it sounds ike an abusive relationship
Mia, Joshua Livestro put something up for internal purposes, set to post this evening, and for some odd reason it went up on the page much earlier than scheduled. My understanding is there will be a post coming using that article, among other things; at this point, though, I'm not involved in that, so I can't give you any more information. I will note, however, that that article blows two of the AP's fake "fact checks" on the book out of the water.
wow...did something happen to matthews??? Sounds like he is a little taken and has thrills running up and DOWN his leg now
Why was Oprah asking questions about Ricky Hollywood? Scumbag was not in the book.
I want a shirt with the moose on it.
"leave a carbon footprint or something"
That is priceless.
So very true, Someone had to say them.....
good catch on the dagger look to the audience.
That's why she'll never have anything to do with Hillary.
