Politico: Palin to Speak at Gridiron dinner
So says a Politico article written by Carol E. Lee:
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will be the Republican speaker at the Gridiron Club's Winter Dinner on Dec. 5, the club announced Friday.
Gridiron Club President Dick Cooper told club members earlier this afternoon that Palin accepted an invitation to speak at the black-tie affair, according to a member of the club's executive committee.
Meg Stapleton, a spokeswoman for Palin, confirmed that Palin planned to address the dinner in an e-mail to POLITICO: "The Governor was honored to accept the invitation."
Also speaking at the dinner will be Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), whom the club invited to represent his party at the event.....
Her planned appearance at the Gridiron also follows in the footsteps of another ambitious young politician: President Barack Obama spoke at the dinner in 2006.

Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin will do a book signing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at in Plano, according to Kyle Hall, the store's director of marketing and events.
It'll be strictly a signing (Palin won't be speaking), with no personalization. No memorabilia will be signed; books only. Books must be bought at Legacy, either in advance (bring your receipt) or that day. As with all Legacy events, if a patron can't come but wants a signed book, Legacy can arrange that over the phone.

Lol, wow I was born in Plano and moved away when I was 12. Great suburb. I know exactly where that book store is. Damn, why did I have to move-to CHICAGO OF ALL PLACES. Hey folks heading to Plano (in addition to myself lol).... question for you. The DMN story says that you have to buy the book at the store in advance or the day of the signing. Since I'll be coming up from Houston (will have to leave and get there in the middle of the night -- as I'm sure the line will be astronomical), I'm wondering if they will let you buy a book while waiting in line once the store opens? I'd go up the night before if I had to, but it'll be tough to get there before closing b/c of work.
BTW, someone said Plano was NW of Dallas, it's actually NE of Dallas -- and for the 80's TV buffs, it's also very close to Southfork Ranch (although much of the area is very developed now).

I'm not sure myself, Hal, but I plan on swinging by the bookstore to check it out and ask that very question. I already have one book coming in the mail, but I don't mind buying another book just to get her to sign it. We'll all have to cross our fingers and hope some of us get our books signed. Plano is soccer mom central and there are going to be A LOT of folks out there wanting to just SEE Palin let alone get a book signed by her. Course, the easier thing to do would be to call the store and ask what their policy is. I'm going to give a call here this weekend.

I just got off the phone with Legacy in Plano... THEY DON"T HAVE A CLUE AS TO HOW BIG A DEAL THEY ARE IN FOR... the sales lady told me you have to buy a book and that gets you a ticket... this is what she told me... show up 15 min. before 11:00 that day and you can purchase your book and be OK!!!
I tried to tell her she better get with her manager and be ready for HUGH crowds and have plenty of books... It was so funny the seriousness of her describing 15 MIN show up time.
I tried to order a signed book.. which they normally do but was told they don't as of now plan on doing it.

I can just see this now. Sarah speaks first. Barney is looking around disinterested. Plays with his tie, then his food. Looks at his speech and makes a few notes. Leans forward, backward then sideways. There is wild applause every few minutes, but Barney is like one of those game show or beauty contestants that is in a Sound Proof Booth! He said that he couldn't do his show prep today because he started reading the book and couldn't put it down. Said it was fascinating and that we were going to absolutely love it. He said later in his show that he will divulge some of the details on Monday if he's allowed to do so. He said he'd check to make sure that was ok.

Don't know yet...She found out that what they told her last year was well....not quite right. I have not really asked a lot of questions....but They told her on some of her tests...were "negative"..but it appears that "negative" is NOT GOOD! Had she have known...she would have had a mastectomy. Instead...she had a lumpectomy...so we are waiting again for her test results. They did a mammogram the other day.. she said she nearly passed out. Why they did not do the new digital mammography.. I will never know....She is a year out of her surgery...not out of the woods yet.
So we are still waiting. Thanks for asking...

I just got my postcard from the College of the Ozarks. I got TWO tickets to the Sarah Palin convocation speech on Dec. 2. Yay!!!!!!!!
This will be my late birthday present and early Christmas present. The tickets were free, but I'll have to stay overnight in a motel.
In another post down thread I asked TexMex to email me any info you guys get. Glad you called the store. Looks like I'll have to go up there the night before to get a book before closing and then get in line at some point. That is funny what the lady said. They have no idea what they are in for. Question is even going up there the night before, will they even have any books in stock?? I'm going to call at some point and see if you can buy a book while waiting in line after they open. No way I'm showing up at opening... she's only there for 3 hours and I guarantee the line will be longer than a three hour wait before they even open!! It would be cool if some of us could meet up and wait in line together or something.

Lyons wouldn’t address how much it’s costing her organization to get Palin to speak in Wisconsin, but did say they worked for a year to make it happen. Tonight’s event is closed to the media, and no recording devices are allowed. “We wanted it to be a very special occasion, where people could come and hear Governor Palin unfiltered, through their own ears, and not have it be something that would become a podcast or something like that at a later date,” said Lyons. “I fully understand why she’s not granting media interviews. Quite frankly with the numbers of requests she receives, she’d be here for three days.”

It’ll be strictly a signing (Palin won’t be speaking), with no personalization. No memorabilia will be signed; books only. Books must be bought at Legacy, either in advance (bring your receipt) or that day. As with all Legacy events, if a patron can’t come but wants a signed book, Legacy can arrange that over the phone.

I called Legacy... they will not at this time be taking phone orders for signed book of Sarah's.
In football terms now that training camp is over and that Sarah has learned her playbook (Facebook entries and HK speech) she is now ready to enter the stadium and take the playing field. Giving speeches to organizations Wisconsin Right to Life, to right wing talk show hosts and embarking on a book tour that refrains from entering Democratic strongholds and forsaking Sunday or MSM talk shows is a low-risk strategy akin to running the ball on first down and giving interviews to Oprah and Barbara Walters is akin to passing on third down to keep moving the ball down the field in spite of opposition efforts.
Turnovers or unforced errors are less likely to happen as we Sarah finishes the first quarter of the game (spring 2010) and she builds up momentum. Look to her to hit her stride going into the 2nd quarter (summer-fall 2010) and begin passing the ball more (MSM appearances) and become more active in a partisan manner. However I think Sarah is prudent enough to realize that you can't win the game in the first half but you can lose it there.
Motels are in dire shape.
How can they be Saved? Sarah Palin. Lots of us will be in motels tracking her tour.
How many jobs will she save and create? 139,076 in 2009 by my count (using Obama math).
