Sarah Palin: Happy Thanksgiving

From the Governor:

Over three hundred years ago, a group of settlers fleeing religious persecution decided to set a new course for human history in a new frontier. Those early pioneers chose a rocky shoreline to establish their way of life. Centuries later, America continues to set the example of what can come from a free and hardworking people. We truly remain the shining city upon a hill that the colonial leader John Winthrop implored us to be.

What started as a small colony in the territory that would eventually become the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has progressed into the greatest and most prosperous nation in history. Americans remain the freest people on earth because of our cherished Constitution and the system of government it establishes.

We have so much to be thankful for. We should recognize especially the sacrifices made on our behalf by those in uniform. Thousands of Americans will be spending Thanksgiving overseas in combat zones in order to protect our liberty and way of life. We should give thanks to those who willingly put their lives on the line for the rest of us. Where would we be without them?

We are also thankful for what God has granted us. We are truly blessed in America with rich natural resources, plentiful energy sources, fertile land, beautiful cities, and the talented and industrious people we call “our fellow Americans.” We pray that God will continue to bless us.

In his farewell address to the nation, President Reagan reminded us that “all great change in America begins at the dinner table.” Thanksgiving is an opportunity to discuss where we are as a nation at this moment in our history and where we should be heading in order to remain prosperous and free. Take time to discuss these things with each other, and take time to teach the young people in your family about our nation’s history so that they may never forget all that we have to be proud of and thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving!

- Sarah Palin

I just want to reach through my computer screen and give this woman a huge, long hug.

For the past year she's been such a constant reminder of what is truly important.

Thank you Governor Palin.

Happy Thanksgiving, Sarah.

Happy Thanksgiving to all in the C4P family.

Thank you Sarah and Happy Thanksgiving to you. I love you as if you were a part of my own family.

GAHanson,  November 25, 2009 11:05 PM

I got this in my email earlier today, 0bama's Thanksgiving message.  You'll notice that he has to plug himself and change.  What a bozo.

Friend --

Tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day, Americans across the country will sit down together, count our blessings, and give thanks for our families and our loved ones.

American families reflect the diversity of this great nation. No two are exactly alike, but there is a common thread they each share.

Our families are bound together through times of joy and times of grief. They shape us, support us, instill the values that guide us as individuals, and make possible all that we achieve.

So tomorrow, I'll be giving thanks for my family -- for all the wisdom, support, and love they have brought into my life.

But tomorrow is also a day to remember those who cannot sit down to break bread with those they love.

The soldier overseas holding down a lonely post and missing his kids. The sailor who left her home to serve a higher calling. The folks who must spend tomorrow apart from their families to work a second job, so they can keep food on the table or send a child to school.

We are grateful beyond words for the service and hard work of so many Americans who make our country great through their sacrifice. And this year, we know that far too many face a daily struggle that puts the comfort and security we all deserve painfully out of reach.

So when we gather tomorrow, let us also use the occasion to renew our commitment to building a more peaceful and prosperous future that every American family can enjoy.

It seems like a lifetime ago that a crowd met on a frigid February morning in Springfield, Illinois to set out on an improbable course to change our nation.

In the years since, Michelle and I have been blessed with the support and friendship of the millions of Americans who have come together to form this ongoing movement for change.

You have been there through victories and setbacks. You have given of yourselves beyond measure. You have enabled all that we have accomplished -- and you have had the courage to dream yet bigger dreams for what we can still achieve.

So in this season of thanks giving, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to you, and my anticipation of the brighter future we are creating together.

With warmest wishes for a happy holiday season from my family to yours,

President Barack Obama

Uffda,  November 25, 2009 11:12 PM

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I'll wait a few minutes before I sour the mood entirely by posting my thoughts on a few other things.

John Winthrop -

"For we must consider that we shall be a city upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us, so that if we shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken, and so cause Him to withdraw His present help from us, we shall be made a story and a byword through the world.”

“Liberty is the proper end and object of authority, and cannot subsist without it; and it is liberty to that which is good, just, and honest”

RedDaveR,  November 25, 2009 11:16 PM

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone at C4P, and especially to Gov. Sarah Palin for giving us hope and reminding us of how much we have to be thankful for.

Thank you to all the contributors and commenters.  You have made this the go-to site for Sarah news.

Recovering Democrat,  November 25, 2009 11:20 PM

He didn't mention freedom, or God, or the pilgrims. I think he's trying to re-write American history. Instead of beginning at Plymouth Rock, he wants it to start with Ba-Rock.

Happy Thanksgiving, Sarah (if you're reading this)! :)  This year, I am most thankful for your presence.  I have never cared about politics and never thought much about our soldiers, but because of you and what you have instilled in us, I think about them everyday now.  And everytime I get a chain email about soldiers, I think of your message to always remember.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

what a freaking a**.  I'm sorry to curse, but the man has an ego bigger than his ears.  I have friends in the military who cannot stand this freaking loser.  I absolutely believe he is anti-America and really loathes this country and everything she stands for.
Who the h*ll would say that the US Constitution is "fundamentally flawed"??

I'm sorry I wasted 2 minutes of my life reading that ignorant arrogant letter!

Recovering Democrat,  November 25, 2009 11:42 PM

Cool! I am going to see her one week from today! (twice) At her book signing in Springfield, MO. And at the speech to the College of the Ozarks. I can't wait!

The Pilgrims were religious right wingers kind of people. :)

ChillinInMN,  November 25, 2009 11:53 PM

Interesting no mention of God...but he does get a plug in for himself and his own.

MarkRNY,  November 26, 2009 12:02 AM

Lol--The only "historical" event he mentions is him! Like all megalomaniacs, anything that isn't about them doesn't exist. He really wants to "remake" America from scratch. What happened Before Obama is a lot of noise. There's a screw loose there (and I'm very serious).

Well, Happy Thanksgiving Sarah. You're like a traveling smile. Happy TG to everyone on C4P!

ChillinInMN,  November 26, 2009 12:04 AM

he-hee. An angry white mob I'm thinking

Uffda,  November 26, 2009 12:05 AM

Okay, I'm going to spoil the pool party, since this is an open thread.

First off, there's this stupid article: http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/archives/186298.asp

My reposnse: That's so ridiculous. Was Ronald Reagan "speaking for God" when he said that our nation was to be a shining city on a hill? What about when he said that he believed his life had been spared for a purpose? Does Mr. DiPeso find it creepy that Ronald Reagan believed he was fulfilling a divine destiny by destroying the Soviet Union? Palin has said that it is her opinion. Her opinion, nothing more.

She is also one of the most conservationst-minded Republicans out there. Has Mr. DiPeso read her book? Probably not. She talks a lot about respecting the land, respecting the wildlife, and having a conservationist attitude toward nature. She has said in her interviews, especially the one with IBD, that protecting the land and wildlife is part of her as an Alaskan. It's part of her heritage.

As far as being addicted to oil is concerned, Palin is the biggest supporter of energy independence on the national scene right now. Energy independence would cure many of the ills of being subject to foreign countries, etc.....

And Palin is also on the record recognizing that these resources are nonrenewable. She supports alternative energy, not to mention natural gas, the cleanest of the fossil fuels. The idea is to invest the money from nonrenewables into renewable technology so that when we do eventually run out we will have power from all of these other sources.

Mr. DiPeso is clearly paranoid and clearly does not know the positions of the person he is criticizing. If he did, he would most likely support Sarah Palin.

Uffda,  November 26, 2009 12:10 AM

Secondly, the people Palin slammed are slamming back. John Bitney here: http://www.adn.com/national-election/story/1025462.html

Trooper Wooten here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/geoffrey-dunn/more-palin-lies-the-troop_b_371293.html

I have to admit, I was a little taken aback by Palin's description of John Bitney (her first legislative director) in her book. The rest of the takedowns I expected; that one I didn't see coming.

I was skimming through the Palin news today, and there seem to be a few people who "have had it up to here and just aren't gonna take it anymore!" The political equivalent of "Mooooom, Palin's pickin' on me!"

What's that line about being able to dish it out but not being able to take it?
<span>Palin's lawyer, Tom Van Flein, responded in an e-mail that Bitney and others have been talking about "their perceptions of, and distortions about" Palin for more than a year, since after she was chosen as Sen. John McCain's vice presidential running mate.

" 'Going Rogue' is Sarah Palin's book to set the record straight. It is her right to speak about the events that occurred in her administration and neither Mr. Bitney nor anyone else has the right to stifle that speech," Van Flein said. "The statements in 'Going Rogue' speak for themselves, and it is Sarah Palin's turn to get the truth out there after a year of misrepresentations, half-truths and dissembling by her critics."</span>
He's also teamed up with Shannyn Moore and Halcro. Good company. Here's a line: <span>Moore asked Bitney if Palin is sane. Bitney's response: "Is a sociopath sane?"</span>

The ADN article goes on to say that Palin's larger point was that Bitney blundered things with the legislature. Is that true? Don't ask me, how should I know? That's the problem with these his-word-against-hers scenarios.

I will say this in defense of both parties - people often see things differently. I know this from my own work environment. I've had issues with colleagues where their version of the story is completely different than mine. Every one sees things from their own perspective. And I did think that John was trying to be fair in his interviews about Sarah so far. I guess that's why the book threw me for a loop on that one. But I wasn't there, I don't know what happened, I'm not going to pretend like I do. Moving on....

And then we have Trooper Wooten. Wooten, the big, bad Trooper who got crushed in a child-proof van door. Oh, you have heard that story, right?

Geoffrey Dunn - Huffington Post blogger who specializes in half-truths, also has a Palin book coming out next year, and has been photographed palling around with the likes of Gryphen, Trig-Truther extradordinaire - has an <span>article on the HuffPost</span><span> </span>detailing Trooper Mike Wooten's new outrage at Palin:
<span>According to Wooten, Palin and her father, Chuck Heath Sr., have "interfered with my life--and my children's lives--for at least the last five years. And it is still going on. I'm done with it."</span>

Hmmmmmm, his outrage sounds remarkably similar to Levi's.

I would give these people more credibility if they didn't show up with the likes of Shannyn Moore and Rex Butler, or if they weren't going to sue over being caught in a childproof door.

These, ladies and gentlemen, are the heroes of the Left. The likes of Trooper Wooten, Andree McLeod, and Levi Johnston. No wonder they hate Sarah Palin.
The only [...]

section9,  November 26, 2009 12:17 AM

Well, it depends on whether or not this was sent out to the Obama for America Drones or whether or not this was his "official" Thanksgiving" message as head of State.

Huge difference, although I don't doubt his massive ego.

section9,  November 26, 2009 12:20 AM

That line sounds similar to Levi's. Wonder if Rex Butler is repping Trooper Wooten.

You gotta remember when Obama said "We no longer consider ourselves a Christian Nation".

I was blown away tonight watching Glenn Beck's Show.  Beck said the Founders were seriously thinking of putting Moses, the Parting of the Red Sea and another O.T. symbol to be the OFFICIAL SEAL OF THE UNITED STATES!!

Tina Andreadis of HarperCollins has accompanied her to all the book signing.

We are so fortunate to continue to receive the blessings of this country.  I hope everyone will remember all the family that might be forgotten.  Today I delivered Meals on Wheels and asked the elderly people about the TG plans.  One man said his relatives were too far away and he couldn't drive that far.  The place he mentioned is about 30 miles away.  How can his children justify not going to pickup this man?  It is very sad that some people are isolated from family.

The fact that Bitney went to Halcro and Moore, two people we already know are nuts, kills whatever credibility he had.

The kind of people he would need to counter the why Palin had to fire him, are unsurprisingly NOT coming out of the woodwork.

Why?  Because the rest of her administration agreed with her decision to let him go.

Whitney,  November 26, 2009 12:58 AM

Thanks be to God for His blessings! We are truly blessed, and may we, in turn, be a blessing to others. I'm very thankful to live in the greatest country in the world and to have an amazing family and friends (whether the be face-to-face or online). I'm also thankful for those who serve our country in any way, shape, or form, with or without a title.

Sapwolf,  November 26, 2009 1:00 AM

Bitney's job was to soften the blow of coming cuts and vetoes.  He was not competent.  So, she dismissed him.

If he was doing his job, why was there so much surprise by the legislators?

Bitney is just another beneficiary of a lazy legislature that was not used to being held accountable in an 'above the table' environment.

TexMex,  November 26, 2009 1:10 AM

Who cares what these jackasses have to say? Palin's no longer Gov and can speak as loudly as she likes. Palin is too big for Alaska and these idiots don't understand that. Stepping down from the Governorship was the best thing to do, and her decision has played out beautifully these past few months. Those backwater goobers can lob spit balls at her all day long but there are too many Palin supporters standing in the way for those hits to matter. Palin's off fighting real battles. Go cry to your taser, Wooten.

I know this sounds wierd but thanksgiving translated 'backasswards' is giving thanks and I would like to give thanks to Cindy McCain who we are told convinced her husband John to go with Palin for his running mate by enthusiastically putting her final stamp of approval on the selection and a close second goes to Adam Brickley, founder of draft Sarah Palin for VP who tirelessly advocated for the Governor and inspired a cadre of conservative idealists and iconoclasts to believe in Sarah, incentivized us to passionately write down the reasons Sarah needed to be McCain's running mate, encouraged us to 'spread the gospel' over the Internet and right wing blogosphere and to vote in several internet polls which all gave Sarah legitimacy as a conservative warrior princess in juxtaposition to journalists like Dana Bash who could not even pronounce her surname correctly on the morning of the 29th of August 2008 when Sarah was unveiled to the world at Dayton, Ohio.

Since this is an open thread here is an article I stumbled across in The Economist dated July 9th which was pretty indicative of the MSM feeling towards Palin then and premature in declaring her demise.

Here are some juicy passages:

"To mention her name at a dinner party in the highly educated liberal suburb (Lexington) is to ask for trouble. "Moron", "idiot", and "megalomaniac" are some of the gentler epithets that will be used. Some will admit to hating her. Many will guffaw at her trashy family. Yet half the country loves her."

"(the resignation) makes it highly unlikely that she will ever be president. Asked what they seek in a commander-in-chief, few Americans cite a tendency to cut and run when the going gets tough."

"Her resignation speech was rambling and often incoherent...political operatives have descended on the state to dig up dirt and file ethics complaints against her. This has saddled her with half a million dollars in legal bills and made her job impossible...to half the country this sounds like pathetic whining."

"Politics is a tough business. If you can't cope with harsh criticism, perhaps you should find a less demanding line of work, such as making lucrative speeches to friendly audiences."

"To the other half of the country however, Mrs. Palin's complaints ring true. And the divide is largely a cultural one. Many liberal or well-educated Americans feel it is their patriotic duty to point out that the Caribou Barbie is far too ignorant to be allowed anywhere near the White House. But many rural and working-class whites adore her, and resent the way she has been ridiculed."

"The kind of people who support Mrs. Palin have several grievances. They are less well-educated than the American average, so the labour market has been unkind to them for years. They are often white and male, but they do not feel privileged...in short they are the Republican Party's base. There are not enough of them to decide a general election, but more than enough to decide a primary. And that leaves the Republicans in a mind. Party bigwigs do not want Mrs. Palin to be their nominee, not least because they think she would be sure to lose to Barack Obama. They hope her resingation has opened a space for a less polarising and more competent candidate."

"Their (Democrats) are so large that the Republicans will probably fail to recapture either the House or the Senate in 2010. but they could well make gains."

"The key test will be whether the party can find a leader who will enthuse its Palin wing without pandering to it."

How fast the lay of the land can change in politics.

A Thanksgiving story:

Characters:

Joe, a middle-age small businessman

Martha, his wife who volunteers reading to blind folks and does the books for the business

Dan, their son who is home from college; he is majoring in business administration

Laura, their daughter, a senior in high school

Joe's mother, Rebecca, who lives with them

Scene:

These folks are sitting around the spacious rectangular dining room table waiting for Joe to say grace. They all bow their heads and pray. After Joe is the first to speak.

Joe: "Well let's dig in."

Serving plates are passed around and everyone fills their own plate. As they start eating Dan pipes up:

Dan: "What's new dad? How's the business going?"

Joe: "You don't want to know son. It's an unmitigated disaster."

Dan: "What do you mean? I hear all the time from my professors that the Bush recession is about to end."

Joe: "What kind of weed have your professors been smoking? The Bush recession...its now the Obama recession. The stimulus package that Obama rammed through Congress isn't worth the paper isn't written on. Unemployment is over 10%-more like 15% I hear. Son, quite frankly I'm in a funk now because your mother has just told me we have to lay off half our staff-we're bearly breaking even these days. And then there's this Obamacare monstrosity...I'm sorry, I know its Thanksgiving, but what am I supposed to give thanks for-that Obama put me out of business, that I might not be able to support my family any longer.

Dan: "Mom, isn't there anything that can be done?"

Martha: Not right now. There's talk in December that Obama's going to hold an economic summit to get America back to work. And you know Obama's got all those czars who supposedly went to Ivy League schools with degrees up the ying-yang.

Joe: "I heard Rush (Limbaugh) talk about that the other day. He's going to hold his own summit that day-only the unemployed are allowed to call in..."

Laura: "Daddy, you don't still listen to Rush Limbaugh, do you? A student brought his name up in class one day and he was sent to the principal's office."

Dan: "You're kidding, right."

Laura: "Yea, it was in history class. Jonathan, you know him Dan, his dad's a dinosaur, you know a Reagan Republican-well Jon gets up in class to challenge my teacher, Mr. Gore, on the concept of global warming and manmade climate change. Man his face got red and he got flustered and once he heard that he listens to Rush Limbaugh (podcast) when he should be doing his homework that's when he really went beserk and off the deep end."

Dan: "I guess he hasn't read the Constitution about free speech.  One of those 'living and breathing types. My college is full of them. To them it's like Obama is some god-I know he is the Anointed One (everyone laughs)...but nobody, especially the President has the right to ignore or bypass the Constitution."

Rebecca: "Dan, excuse me for butting in, but Obama doesn't care what you think, what I think or what anyone thinks. All he thinks about is himself. It's always I, I did this, I want that. Martha, you voted for him didn't you?

Martha: Sheepishly she admits, "Yes I did. But I'm a registered Democrat-what was I suppose to do. Joe told me not to-Joe voted McCain-he's an independent, but mother you know what happened-Bush, the Iraq war, Lehman Brothers, Tarp 1-and I admit a little white guilt-I remember the 60's-Martin Luther King, the protests-and he promised hope and change; I didn't believe he was radical; the media kept attacking Palin, calling her crazy for bringing up the Ayres fellow and calling Obama a socialist. C'mon who's going to believe that a man wanting to be President is a radical. I just wasn't brought up that

(continued):

Joe: "And now the whole country is paying big time. For Obama it's a race to the finish line." If he wins there's no turning back; Obamacare is irreversible. But it can't be stopped; the Dems in the Senate, most of them are just as radical as The One; and of course he'll buy off the ones who are reluctant to go along with him: the Chicago way.

Rebecca: "And Joe, you know I haven't got that many more years-you know cancer runs in the family; I already had breast surgery; we're all going to die one day, but damn it Joe, if someone has to pull the plug I want you or Martha to give the OK, not some Obama trained wet-behind-the ears trained seal who is going to determine whether I live or when I die-some death panel."

Laura: "Grandma, there is no such thing as death panels. Miss Dowd told the class that Sarah Palin is nuts and he made fun of her, calling her Caribou Barbie and a moron."

Rebecca: "Laura, how old is your teacher?"

Laura: "About 25, I guess. She keeps telling us that we have nothing to worry about with Obamacare. It's like we're out of step with the rest of world."

Rebecca: "Laura, excuse my French but your teacher is full of bullcrap. Sarah Palin laid it out on her Facebook."

Martha: "I didn't know that you gone high-tech, mother."

Rebecca: Well, it took me a while to figure out how to work the darn thing (computer)-I know Joe tried to show me-but I finally figured it out and stumbled across a web site called conservatives4palin."

Joe: "Mother, you haven't become, I think the word is Palinista, have you?"

Rebecca: "You betcha! She's the only one that makes sense these days. All this craziness in the world-Obama bowing to the emperor of Japan-doesn't he know I lost a brother fighting the Japanese or so did many Americans lose brothers, fathers and sons. How disgusting? Look I don't hate the Japanese, but some things don't go away. I'm sorry. But Palin is the only person, at least politician in America willing to stand up to Obama and tell him not only that he is wrong but what he is doing is immoral. i don't care what the damn media says about Sarah, the Couric interview, everyone has a bad day once in awhile, Tina Fey, Letterman-they can all jump off the nearest bridge as far as I'm concerned."

Dan: But grandma, she resigned in disgrace, didn't she? How can she ever be President?'

Rebecca: "Hey that lady has more guts and I think the modern word is cajones than all the GOP male members of Congress put together. Dan, quitters don't put themselves in the line of fire everyday, quitters don't want to challenge a sitting President, quitters don't attract the crowds that she does-have you been paying attention to the Going Rogue tour? No, what quitters do is slink into the corner, abandon their post and refuse to engage the enemy again."

Martha: But regardless mother, Obama's in till 2012, Palin or no Palin."

Rebecca: "Well, Martha I'd rather go down fighting for and with Palin than to bow down to that impostor in the White House and his radical czars."

Laura: "You're not thinking about joining the Tea party crowd are you."

Rebecca: "I'm already a member. I just haven't gone to any meetings yet."

Joe: "Regardless we can't do anything about Obama till 2010."

Martha: "I know that I won't be voting Democrat in 2010."

Dan: "But even if the opposition mobilizes, Obama still has ACORN. He'll fix the election."

Joe: "Then we'll have to win by substantial margins in every race-ACORN only works in tight races. I gave up on the GOP years ago-elitists, RINO's, but talking like this I'm going to get back my GOP membership, but this time I'm not going to settle for RINO's-only conservatives get my vote in the primary-I agree with Beck. Democrat Lite isn't going to get our country back."

Rebecca: "Are you going to back Palin, Joe?"

Joe: "Not for now. But I'm going to keep a close eye on her progress. I've also got my eye on Huckabee, maybe Romney. Anybody would be better than that 'joker' in the White House. Honestly, I don't know if Palin can overcome the quitter tag. She'll get pounded with that to kingdom come. But I haven't given up on her, I'm leaning to her but I'm not quite there yet. She has tremendous potential. I remember Reagan and how he stirred the folks in the heartland. She has the same qualities. But I can't quite figure her out; she is a little strange. She should have been born in the 19th century."

Laura: "I have a confession. I've been going to conservatives4palin for a while now and posting. You wouldn't believe what you learn. There's this woman Robin who wrote an article on rape, how liberal men are absolute pigs towards women and why women gravitate to the Democrats-a safe harbor. Then there's this woman Anita who gives the inside dope on ACORN; she was a confirmed Palin hater, a diehard lib but unbelievably she has now become a conservative. I'm going to see Palin in a couple of weeks when she stops by on her tour; I'll be one of those that camp out all night to be first in line; dad, mom that's all right isn't it?

Dan: "Get her to sign a book for me as well. I want to read her book. It will drive my lib profs crazy when they see my carrying the book around or reading it."

Joe: "You know I felt really down in the dumps tonight. Not any more."

Martha: "So did I. It's like that Yeats's poem, I can't remember its name...about the anarchy ruling the world and everything falling apart, the center cannot hold...but we are Americans."

Rebecca: "And never forget that. And never forget what you are fighting for is not only for my right to live and to die on my own terms but also your right to do the same thing as well. Life. liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Dan: "Grandma, not until tonight did I really understand what it means to be an American. I'm not going to let Obama and his radical associates take my country from me. Whatever it takes, whatever it takes..."

Rebecca: "Let's all pray for Sarah Palin. She'll need them more than ever. She's about to go into the belly of the beast."

From uncbob at FR:

When President Reagan was told Clint Eastwood has been elected as mayor of Carmel CA, he said

"I must admit I never thought I would see the day when an actor that co-stared with a monkey would make it in politics."

Gotta love the Gipper

(for those too young to remember Reagan appeared in a movie called Bedtime for Bonzo in 1951 in which a chimpanzee was his co-star.)
