Sarah Palin: In the Midnight Hour

From Facebook:

The Senate is set to vote Saturday night, right before the holiday, on a motion to proceed on its latest health care government take-over bill. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is pushing for yet another weekend vote (commonplace now for the party of “transparency”) because he knows that the American people will be none too happy about the Democrats’ proposal the longer they have to look it over.

A vote against the Democrats’ motion will help stop Obamacare before it gets any closer to becoming a reality. While this Saturday night vote might seem like a procedural matter, at the end of the day a vote against Senator Reid’s motion is a vote against massive new government spending and a take-over of 1/6th of the U.S. economy; it’s a vote against billions in tax increases and penalties; it’s a vote against federal funding of abortion; and it’s a vote against ignoring responsible tort reform.

And in case you hadn’t heard – just a reminder that you’ll start paying higher taxes to fund this scheme in 2010 even though it doesn’t start up until 2014. Only in Washington does that make any sense. Among the provisions in this bill will be a $2500 cap on Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). The IRS allows families with special needs children to use FSAs to cover educational expenses. This new $2500 cap will hit these families especially hard and cost them hundreds of dollars in new taxes every year.

Contact your senators and tell them to vote against the motion to proceed tomorrow night. The American people don’t support this – we support the commonsense solutions that have been proposed, but totally ignored by (at this point) some out-of-control Washington politicians. Let’s put a stop to Obamacare before it goes any further.

- Sarah Palin

God Bless this woman. She has been through hell and back and look at her, fighting so hard to save all of us from this DISASTER known as DeathCare. God bless her for trying. Show me ANY other politician or someone in the public eye that has worked as hard as Sarah has, with everything she has had to deal with, that goes out of their way to stop this monstrosity from happening. Sarah is doing it, we all have to follow he lead. Unfortunately the Democrats have already decided that they dont give a damn about what the American people want, they want full control over all of us, they want that power that they have wanted for so long, if this passes, America as we know it is finished. It will NEVER be the same again, we will officially become Europe which is what Obama. I am so scared about this, we need to do whatever necessary to make sure that ONE dem sees the light, will it be Blanche Lincoln, who knows, because the rest of them have already been bought off

AKReport, November 21, 2009 12:32 AM

We need to make sure mark begich does not vote for this bill. we need to target him the most imo.

Begich is corrupt, he will vote yes

William Henley, November 21, 2009 12:42 AM

Lakerfan, you're right. Begich is corrupt. I have emailed him several times. As I put on an earlier thread, I hope Anchorage files charges against him and indites him for crimes while mayor of the city. Personally, I've done everything except threaten to shoot the bast*rd.

FLREPUB, November 21, 2009 12:44 AM

They keep saying the only hope is Lincoln from AR because Nelson already said he'll vote yes for the motion and the lady from LA is getting $100MM for her state but don't they need Lieberman too? I haven't heard anything about him since he went on record as saying he wouldn't even vote yes to debate if the bill had the public option--it does. Why is nobody mentioning Sen Lieberman--did he already go back on his word from last week?

Dan C, November 21, 2009 12:49 AM

God help us if this bill passes. I do not mean to sound arrogant, but my livelihood depends on being able to see trends in the investment world and I have to tell you I am an expert at it.

This bill will cost TRILLIONS of dollars. I do not care what the CBO or anyone else says. People have to wake up to our debt problem. We cannot spend and spend with no end in sight. I know advanced economics is not taught to anyone, but these people do not even have a basic understanding of how the economy works. Yes, I am talking about Obama's cabinet and advisors. They literally have no clue. They havent made a dollar in their lives and they are now dictating fiscal policy to us.

Here in Chicago I just beat my head against the wall. I see so many in poverty and they vote to continue the policies that keep them there. It breaks my heart.

Dan C, November 21, 2009 12:51 AM

If we continue on this reckless spending path, and higher taxes, then the USA will fall into irreversible decline. It hurts me so much to say that, but the numbers do not lie. We cannot overcome the treasury being sacked!

william, please do not say those things here.

Recovering Democrat, November 21, 2009 1:09 AM

I thought this was a motion to proceed ...to debate. Isn't cloture a vote to end debate? That is where the real fireworks will happen, and a guaranteed filibuster. I don't think they can pass something that Joe Lieberman will vote for. He could wind up being the one to kill Obamacare.

Ted Torgerson, November 21, 2009 1:14 AM

Seems like we have a good Chicago contingent on C4P. Someone else has the moniker "Chicago's Conservative" with a picture of Coolidge. Anyway Chicago is on its way to becoming Detroit. The restaurant convention bailed out of McCormick Place. Service fees, taxes and union labor costs were too high. Some of the horror stories are unbelievable. $350 for 4 cases of Pepsi!

Penny, November 21, 2009 1:14 AM

Laker,

You must have listened to Mark Levin today too! I heard exactly the same thing - Blanche Lincoln is the only Dem not to take a payoff for her vote yet.

Mary Beth (Über), November 21, 2009 1:15 AM

We're not at cloture yet. This is a bill to start the debate. They need 60 to get the ball rolling.

The problem is of course, that they'll buy off who they need to to get past this hurdle...and then 10 of them can peel away and say they didn't vote for cloture.

It's a sham. Voting for proceeding with the atrocity is the same as voting for it regardless of what these hacks say...and they know it. But they hope they can trick their constituents into believing that it's not.

The big worry of course is that per several senators, if they get the debate...if they pass this first hurdle, there's a NINETY SEVEN PERCENT chance that the bill will pass the Senate.

This is a catastrophe.

Shar61, November 21, 2009 1:15 AM

I just have a gut feeling this will not pass. Perhaps tomorrow for debate, but I cannot fathom it going anywhere from there. I could be wrong, will continue to fight, I just don't think they will have the guts.

William Henley, November 21, 2009 1:18 AM

I love the support on C4P for Sarah, but you are going to have to wake up. In the not-so-far-away future the only way out of what congress is doing is going to be bloodshed. I for one don't wish this but as an Oath-Keeper I am sworn to protect the constitution in any manner required and I will do so.

Dan C, November 21, 2009 1:24 AM

You read my mind. I tell that to everyone I know. Chicago is becoming detroit and Illinois is becoming michigan.

Mary Beth (Über), November 21, 2009 1:37 AM

Whoops I read elsewhere someone referring to this as a vote for "cloture"...so I apologize for getting my verbiage wrong.

The facts are still the same though. 60 votes to start the debate and 50 to seal the deal.

And our death warrants.

Anonymous, November 21, 2009 1:43 AM

I think the bill will pass b/c Dems have super majority.

Brian72, November 21, 2009 1:43 AM

I disagree. The people responsiblr for this debacle are going to have to face the voting public.
The whole House, and a third of the Senate will get it in 2010. You may very well see Speaker Pelosi dethroned in 2010, or at least have a much, much narrower majority. Then in 2012, the whole House and another third of the Senate, plus the President will have to face the voters again. The payback must be at the ballot box. This is what makes our country the great nation it is. We peacefully settle our differences. Talk of bloodshed is over the top and counterproductive in many ways, not the least of which is playing into the media stereotypes about the TeaParty movement.

We still have our Constitution, and it will ensure that our will is heard in elections.

Recovering Democrat, November 21, 2009 1:58 AM

Well I thought it also took 60 votes to close debate? Where the heck is Joe Lieberman? He promised to filibuster.

I still think we're missing something. It's the vote to close the debate that is the end game, at least that's what I thought.

Mary Beth (Über), November 21, 2009 2:16 AM

The only problem is that once this becomes law, we're stuck with it forever.

Our health care system is changed forever.

Our freedoms are lost forever.

They will never, ever repeal what ensures them control in our lives on very detailed levels and what gives them more ways to steal from the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Mountain Mama, November 21, 2009 2:17 AM

Disagree all you want, but you're missing the point, Brother Brian72:

Rush is correct on this; THEY DO NOT CARE if they lose their next election! They know that once a program is enacted, it's virtually impossible to repeal it. Their one assignment is to get this Obamacare bill passed----and if they have to fall on their swords and NEVER get reelected, so be it, and TOUGH TOES.

It's sickening. They totally don't care about actually "representing" their constituents' interests; they only care about POWER, and if they have to SHAFT their constituency, that's fine: at least they've won Big Time for their Party. Maybe someday they can get back into another office....

Our country is great ONLY if it's a democratic republic based upon fair and just representation. When millions of illegal aliens gain citizenship, owing their allegiance to the Dem Party SOLELY, our two-party system will end, and we'll be RULED by a power-hungry, values-deficient tyranny.

MarkRNY, November 21, 2009 2:44 AM

If it goes to the floor, it will pass the Senate. After the "debate", Reid will go to "Reconciliation" (no matter what Beltway pundits say), which isn't supposed to be used for this purpose but will be. Then it only needs a simple majority (51 votes) to pass. All the "Moderates" can then vote against it and it'll still pass.

"Reconciliation" is their Nuclear Option. Beltway pundits, not realizing what we're dealing with here, think they'll never use it because it's such a violation of what it's supposed to be used for. But they will. These "Moderates" know damned well they will too. It's dirty as hell, but they're gonna do it. Mighty Joe Lieberman knows it too. He never was a good guy.

Next comes the House and Senate coming up with their final version. THAT's our Alamo, and that's when people have to make this summer's tea parties and town halls look like bake sales. If not, we've got Death Panel Care.

AussieforSarah, November 21, 2009 3:50 AM

I still can't believe that Americans would go down a path that has been tried and failed elsewhere in the World.

One thing that can be certain is taxes will increase and the quality of health care will decline.

FredHeadBill, November 21, 2009 4:03 AM

Note to Seb. Bill Nelson of Florida
Senator Nelson
Please, spare our country, our children, our grandchildren, and seniors from poverty that will follow the enactment of this bill. Surely a man brave enough to ride atop a missle into space has a steel spine strong enough to vote Nay to this madness.
Praying for you to listen to those you serve, rather than the current failing President.

I hope Sarah doesn't mine me lifting 'steel spine' from her words.

"With a Rebel Yell"

panchita, November 21, 2009 6:02 AM

A great and instructive thread. it seems obamacare is inevitable. A questions for me is why don't the republicans make a bigger stink? They should be ripping their shirts off and screaming bloody murder or at the very least walk out of Washington.

Mark R-CA, November 21, 2009 6:10 AM

I hope it's because the Republicans believe they can shut down this debate. Otherwise, I'm worried. Like Rush said, they're almost like kamikaze warriors here. The Dems have been waiting to pass healthcare for decades. They don't care about losing their job.

panchita, November 21, 2009 6:28 AM

how can legislation pass without any participation from another party? this has to be unprecedented. i'm sick with worry that this vote will go through and the republican party will just continue to play along.

in the end it will likely go to washington along with millions of other voters to show our displeasure.

panchita, November 21, 2009 6:31 AM

how can this bill pass without any republican input whatsoever. it has to be unprecedented.

I have yet to hear of any strategies the republicans have to halt this bill. Not good news at all.

CAn anyone tell me any encouraging news? Is there any hope for our side and if so, what is it?

Mark R-CA, November 21, 2009 6:46 AM

Sorry but the news is bad. The Democrats have a supermajority: 60 seats (2 are Independent Democrats). 60 votes are needed to proceed with debate. Voting to proceed seems harmless but after debate, they can try to ram through this with only 50 votes (reconciliation). Reconciliation is a risky move, but the Democrats have no regard for re-election, it seems.

Now, if it gets shut down tomorrow, the bill is killed. And that's the goal here.

panchita, November 21, 2009 6:51 AM

so if blanch lincoln votes yes we are cooked. a thin thread to hang our hopes on.

Bill in Baltimore, November 21, 2009 7:31 AM

Lakerfan, I love your passion and spirit.

Bill in Baltimore, November 21, 2009 7:35 AM

Why would Lieberman vote for cloture ?

Bill in Baltimore, November 21, 2009 7:42 AM

MarkNY,

so when the final version is prepared, then there's ANOTHER vote in both the House and Senate ? If so, sheesh.

Bill in Baltimore, November 21, 2009 7:47 AM

When Sarah was on Hannity, it was 4,200,000 (on top) with O'Reilly at 3,868,000

- looks like Sarah can draw a crowd . . .

Bill in Baltimore, November 21, 2009 7:47 AM

Shar, I had a gut feeling it wouldn't pass the House, and it squeaked by.

Bill in Baltimore, November 21, 2009 7:48 AM

Brian,

I totally agree, but now we can't even vouch for the integrity of the ballot box.

Bill in Baltimore, November 21, 2009 7:49 AM

MM, you are correct.

this is not about health-care.

this is about who is in control:
- the people
- or the ruling class

hmmmmm

Bill in Baltimore, November 21, 2009 7:52 AM

so if they just straight out votes (without cloture), how many votes are needed ?

and is the point of cloture to simply shut down a filibuster ?

ChillinInMN, November 21, 2009 8:31 AM

As a novice in all things political, I have to say I am learning TONS. Thanks to you that are explaining things. To me, this is very complicated at times. There seems to be so many sneeky ways for them to get their agenda through.

Please keep explaining! People like me are reading and learning...

Mark R-CA, November 21, 2009 9:33 AM

Cloture is a vote to move it to the floor. If you vote for cloture, that means you agree to debate the bill. When it's on the floor, the Democrats can ram this through with only 50 votes, while giving their Moderate Democrats cover to vote "No", while still passing the bill. Today's vote is very dangerous.

Mark R-CA, November 21, 2009 9:35 AM

It's all very sneaky. The Democrats want to ram through this bill while minimizing damage to their red state senators.

Bill in Baltimore, November 21, 2009 9:57 AM

Mark R-CA, thanks for the xpln.

Recovering Democrat, November 21, 2009 12:18 PM

Joe Lieberman promised to filibuster. I guess that was only if the bill included a public option? Doesn't he realize they'll add the public option in conference?

Mark R-CA, November 21, 2009 1:04 PM

Liebermann is going to vote to move the debate along, unfortunately. I don't know if he understands the dangerous position he's sending this bill to. He's against the public option, he will vote against it, and will join a filibuster. So is Ben Nelson (who is pro-life and will block any abortion funding, which is currently in the bill).

But that will all be useless if Reid tries to push this through under the "nuclear option"/reconciliation, which terrifies me greatly. Then, the Moderate Democrats can vote "no' but it will essentially be for show and be useless (similar to the "Yes" on healthcare vote by the lone Republican in the House).

ellen, November 21, 2009 1:26 PM

Having Congress vote late at night on a weekend is the equivalent of a salesman who sells his product in the dark alley behind a bar... 2010 cannot come soon enough. Its time to hit the reset button on these fools.
