Good Morning Fellow Ordinary Barbarians.......coffeeeee.......back after I start to get that little boost.

Here is as an exquisite piece of political insight that you will ever find, that accurately reflects the current lay of the political land:

From John Carpenter a poster at race42012.com:

"A candidate doesn't have to "win you over" to get your vote. There are people who vote in every election who begrudgingly make "protest" votes. Then, too there is the obvious larger issue that seems to be escaping the left: the election of 2012 will be largely determined by how many people think four years was enough for Obama. If his approval rating is in the low 40's, an opposing candidate with approval in the mid-40's could get the job done."

"The troubling issue for the left is that whites and indies are bailing on Obama. The lofty rhetoric has fallen flat abroad as evidenced by his leaving China without any significant concessions on the part of China. Then, too, there's his willingness to live with oil at a $100 a barrel, which we'll likely see again."

"The man is way over his head and he's having his legs cut out from under him by incompetent advisors, A VOTER BASE MORE OBSESSED WITH TAKING DOWM PALIN THAN COVERING HIS BACK, AND A MEDIA THAT IRONICALLY BY TRYING TO DISPATCH PALIN IS ACTUALLY MAKING HER SEEM MORE LIKEABLE, VIABLE, AND SAVVY. The left can deny this but in any fight between the left and reality, take REALITY every time."

Again written by John Carpenter. In three paragraphs he has laid out perhaps the next 3 years.

We are by now probably all aware of the Rasmussen poll that shows Romney and Obama tied in a head to head matchup (44-44).

Let me now provide the counterargument from PPP that may lead one to be skeptical of Rasmussen's results:

1) As of the most recent poll released Nov. 20 and based on the past monthly polls from April here are some startling results:

a) Romney has not been above 37 F overall in the last 5 polls and reached his low water mark (LWM) at 30 F in November. He also reached his high-water mark (HWM) in UF at 39 this month.

b) For being touted for his 'moderate' credentials Mitt also reached his LWM in November at 26 F having dropped 6% since September.

c) And amongst conservatives Mitt has polled only in the high 40's in F for 4 straight months, tying his LWM of 46 set in September. By the way PPP found Palin's F in November to be at 80.

d) From a high of 39 F in June among female voters Mitt has dropped to a LWM in November of 28 F.

e) From a HWM of 45 in May Mitt has sunk to a LWM among men at 32 F and lost 10 points since August.

f) Mitt has been <55 F with Republicans for the past 5 months hitting the LWM at 48 F in November. Palin is at 75 F now.

g) Among indie voters from a high of 45F in July, Mitt has lost 14 points to where he now sits at 31 F, his LWM.

h) And finally among white voters Mitt hit the LWM at 32 F in November losing 6 points over one month.

And Rasmussen finds Mitt neck and neck with Obama. There is something fishy here.

cookboy, November 28, 2009 9:40 AM

Something fishy? I wouldn't hire either one. Why do so few political types seem human?

Bill in Baltimore, November 28, 2009 9:44 AM

Cookboy,

>>Why do so few political types seem human?
- they are trying to take our money and prove that they are smarter than we are, "trust me"

techno, November 28, 2009 9:48 AM

But ask yourself if the PPP (D) narrative is anti-Palin as we all assume why is Mitt doing so poorly and why did Tom Jensen make a special point of highlighting how poorly Mitt is doing among conservatives and Republicans?

techno, November 28, 2009 10:03 AM

Besides the wall-to-wall media coverage of the three main events of the week:

1) The Palin book tour

2) The gatecrashers to the WH

3) Tiger Woods encounter with a fire hydrant and a tree after fleeing from his wife

what do these 3 events all have in common?

In all three stories women decided to GO ROGUE: Sarah Palin, Michele Salahi, and Elin Nordegren.

panchita, November 28, 2009 10:07 AM

Techno: thought your comments on Sarah's "loading dock moment" were spot on. Heard Rove yesterday say you shouldn't run a campaign when your selling books, and vice versa. Right now Sarah is on a book selling tour and she should focus on that. However, you aptly point our a potential weakness in Sarah that will be exploited by her enemies, and that is her willingness to reach out to everyone no matter how "weird" they appear.

Living in NYC for many years the sight of that kooky lady would have sent alarm bells off immediately in my own head. Sarah needs someone around her who can watch out for her best interests.

techno, November 28, 2009 10:16 AM

I don't completely agree with "The Architect" as Sean Hannity calls him.

I consider the Going Rogue tour a dry run to the real thing, like a Broadway show going up to Connecticut to iron out the kinks, to decide what works and what doesn't, a work in progress with the eventual goal to debut the show on Broadway as a finished, polished product.

As you correctly noted I focused on the "loading dock moment" and not what the Far Left and HuffPo are all excited about in terms of pwn3ding Sarah. That claim is utter rubbish.

Obviously Sarah cannot avoid 'reaching out' to folks who want them to sign their books-that goes with the territory, but surely there must be somebody in Sarah's camp that can take her aside and explain why addressing a 'weird' lady at a loading dock is not presidential behavior.

Coda, November 28, 2009 10:20 AM

Bad comparison two arguably committed crimes ( not rogue) and Sarah broke the chains than held her down.(Rogue.)

techno, November 28, 2009 10:28 AM

Look up the definition of rogue:

1) acting INDEPENDENTLY and using unorthodox method that are unpredictable and are likely to cause trouble (for Obama):

SARAH PALIN

2) somebody dishonest or unscrupulous

Michele Salahi

3) being vicious and destructive

ELIN NORDEGREN in taking a golf club to Tiger's car

I rest my case.

techno, November 28, 2009 10:37 AM

Splendiferous!

Coda, November 28, 2009 10:42 AM

My point is you lump these two together with Sarah and that was a disservice to Sarah. Not good!!!

tim c, November 28, 2009 10:55 AM

Something from one of the prayer warriors.

Blessings to you Irma!

Nice link Bill.

techno, November 28, 2009 10:58 AM

Some words have a variety of meanings. Did I place Sarah's name below the definition of dishonest or vicious? No.

I just thought it was important to distinguish how Sarah went rogue from other meanings which could be used to disparage her.

Remember I don't ASSUME very much. And I don't ASSUME all the readers at C4P understand the nuances of the word ROGUE.

techno, November 28, 2009 11:09 AM

Folks this has been one of the weirdest weeks in my life. How about yours? Going Rogue tour, the gatecrashers, Tiger Woods and now a story that the NYT is calling Obama an amateur (in foreign affairs).

From Ed Morrissey in the HA thread:

"When Newsweek and the NY Times tell a Democratic President that he's screwing up foreign policy, it's time to clean house and start getting professional help. Unfortunately, neither of these publications considered the ramifications of endorsing an inexperienced ideologue for the top job when it counted."

The full moon has been out for the entire week.

Do you remember the NY Post article at the end of April titled 100 days, 100 Mistakes (referring to Obama) in which Sarah was attributed a piece which she didn't write. I think it's time to go back and revisit it and compare it to see if Obama has made improvement since then.

For newcomers to the Sarah Palin express and for an insight why we are so passionate about defeating the Dems and Obama this is well worth reading. Would techno lead you astray?

wisetrog, November 28, 2009 11:44 AM

I was trolling on some Hillary websites and some were laying out the scenario that if Sarah gets the nomination, expect Levi to commit "suicide." Of course, the commies who control him now will easily dispatch him with a drug overdose and blame Sarah for it. Unthinkable? Probably. But since reading it, I've been having the shivers. that Canadian lady is nothing compared to what's coming. Steel yourselves, barbarians.

Techno...the left side of the planet broke apart the other day...

Coda, November 28, 2009 11:45 AM

"I thought" right there is the problem. I would never lump Tiger Woods and John Daly together but by your logic you would have no problem doing so. DO YOU GET THE POINT NOW.

Coda, November 28, 2009 11:52 AM

I Don't know but yourself importance in amazing at time.

techno, November 28, 2009 11:56 AM

Nothing would surprise me: Sarah was behind the gatecrasher's incident by accusing Obama with palling around with a former terrorist and Elin Nordegren went crazy after reading Going Rogue.

And Bill Belichick went ROGUE in Indianapolis after watching Sarah Palin on You Tube.

techno, November 28, 2009 12:00 PM

I am not important; but what is vitally important that the ordinary barbarians, especially the newcomers, get the info they need to go out and spread the gospel to those independent conservatives, soccer moms and general fence-sitters and skeptics of why they must get behind the Going Rogue tour and the Sarah Palin express. For this I plead guilty.

PEC, November 28, 2009 12:06 PM

OK on the Tiger thing do the math. Physics 101. TIger was backing up and hit a Fire Hydrant and tree. Where would the head go if he is going backwards? That is right it is back. No way of face lacerations. I am not bashing Tiger just due themath on the entire event. HE is just happening to be leaving at 2:30 in the morning? She just happens to break glass with a golf club.

KeeleyH, November 28, 2009 12:41 PM

Techno, I think the problem with mixing the book tour with a presidential campaign is that she gets asked certain policy questions that she may not be 100% ready to answer as she's really not running for POTUS right now.

I don't entirely agree with Karl Rove that a book tour and campaign cannot be mixed together, ever. Just not THIS particular book tour. This is supposed to be a re-introduction tour. However, if she's serious about 2012, she'll have to write a policy book, and THAT book tour will indeed be a campaign as well.

Though Sarah did well enough in the Bill O'Reilly interview, I'm still not entirely comfortable with it because some of the questions were too much of "presidential candidate" questions. She doesn't really have a well-crafted out foreign policy platform yet. So even though she answered O'Reilly's questions correctly, it came across more as a contestant in a quizz show getting the answer correct, than a presidential candidate offering her vision.

This is where I agree with Karl Rove when Greta asked him what does someone has to do to show substance. Rove said that you'll have to show substance by talking about the issues, offering interesting ideas and commenting on current events in a way that is revealing of your leaderships skills. That's the key here, "in a way"...which means, you have to sound confident about the subject, not merely getting the pop quizz correct. You have to have a conversation with the interviewer on the subject with a lot of back and forth, not just the interviewer asking a question and you answering it, then next question... This is where I also think Sarah needs to slow down and look thoughtful, rather than quickly firing back the answers. In that sense, I think having a one-on-one with Charlie Rose would be great practice for her. Charlie Rose converses with his guests, he doesn't interrogate them. He lets his guests talk.

But I suppose this is what you'd consider "ironing out the kinks". She'll have to learn from any imperfections in those interviews.

If Sarah wants a political future, she will certainly have to write a policy book, one that's not dry and boring, but one that's interesting and easy to understand by the average voters, and substantive at the same time. It is also vital that she travels overseas A LOT next year. Without more foreign travels, she'll never gain the credibility in foreign policies. It's not so much what she'll actually learn in her foreign travels (even though learning will be helpful), but it's the perception that she's interested in the rest of the world. Anyone who has traveled will know that traveling does give you a better "feel" of the world.

techno, November 28, 2009 12:57 PM

Chalk this up to a continuation of the 'full moon' theme:

Oh my: GOP leads Dems by 25 points in voter enthusiasm (81 to 56) indies at 65

Two in five Democratic voters either consider themselves unlikely to vote at this point in time or have already made the firm decision to remove themselves from the 2010 electorate pool. Indeed, Democrats were 3 times more likely to say that they will "definitely not vote" in 2010 than are Republicans.

This enormous ENTHUSIASM GAP, as well as some polling analysis done by PPP (and analyzed here by Nate Silver) seems to make passing legitimate health care reform an absolutel political necessity for Democrats...

And this is from the Daily Kos, yes the Daily Kos, a Far Left polling outfit.

I think that Canadian lady Mary Walsh is like the impersonator who spoke to Sarah on the phone pretending to be Nicolas Sarkozy. A real jokester. Apparently she confronts Canadian politicians with her jokes too, except the Canadian politicians all know who she is and all play along with her jokingly. It's not Sarah's fault or even her handler's that they don't know who the lady is. But in the future, it would be wise for her to ignore anything that comes across a little over the top.

techno, November 28, 2009 1:15 PM

I have to disagree with you on the O'Reilly interview. I thought her indignation of "Obama bowing before the world" was fantastic and that she handled herself well despite the staccato-like approach that Bill takes with his guests. I thought her worst interview was with Laura Ingraham on the radio-her best with Barbara Walters, with Rush Limbaugh a close second.

But like a football team that endeavors to get better during the season, Sarah Palin is also striving to improve her performance and execution.

But the measure of her true success last week were the polls released by both Fox News poll Rasmussen which showed Sarah narrowing the gap against Obama and her probable GOP challengers in 2012.

Personally, I don't think this is the time to be hypercritical of Sarah's performance last week. Sarah is back in the game. Let's take a few days to really digest the meaning of that and dwell on what we must do over the next year or two to put Sarah over the top.

Bill in Baltimore, November 28, 2009 1:16 PM

what is the strategy for those NOT on the internet ?

Sapwolf, November 28, 2009 1:21 PM

I read that too. The lack of private sector experience in his White House and cabinet, his lack of experience too. This is what happens when you put ZERO experience in the WH with advisors who have NO experience. The perfect Zero.

KeeleyH, November 28, 2009 1:24 PM

Techno, I didn't mean to sound like I was being hypercritical of her performance. It's more about showing the danger of mixing and a book tour with a presidential campaign before she's ready to run a campaign. I know that the perception this is also a campaign is really just the perception by the media and maybe even some of her supporters. But it's really about choosing the right interviewer for the right time.

ladydawnelle, November 28, 2009 1:31 PM

Bill, those not yet on the net are one group then there is a group that can't afford the net anymore

the first group are probably avid TV watchers and are broke up like most of the nielsen ratings have indicated

the second group - are probably just as varied as we're all losing our jobs and our fortunes equally it seems
I think those w/out the net are few and not likely to vote as often either. jmo.

Thanks for the link, Bill.

Here's a woman who walks the walk. Yes, techno, this could be big politically. But, like the Turkey Trot for the Red Cross, Sarah wants to first use her platform to help these good charities raise funds. Secondarily, the political value comes into play. But just because she is proving that she walks the talk.

She could've played up the BGEA thing big time in the press, but it looks like this video is only on the BGEA site, which the media won't pick up, 'cause I think, I think but I may be wrong, that the media won't go so far as to condemn Billy Graham in order to paint Sarah as a right-wing religious freak. He may be one of the few Christian leaders to still get some respect from them.

So since they won't pick up these videos, their main purpose is to help BGEA fundraise.

Thanks again for the link, Bill.

She did a joint interview with Charlie Rose when she was governor and pregnant. The other guest? Then AZ governor, now Homeland Security head, Janet Napolitano. (I having a brain freeze, is Janet right? Or am I conflating her with Janet Reno?)

And please, I hope you're not asking her to slow down as much as BO!!!! I don't buy this talking slowly makes you sound more intelligent approach. Yes, she needs to talk slowly enough that she forms complete sentences. I think she speaks aloud as her brain makes the connections between so many different things, but better to make one connection at a time.

But America may be ready for someone who talks more boldly and forcefully without such hesitation and I'm trying to figure out what I think and what buzzwords I'm supposed to be stringing together style.

From the New York Times "Inside the List":

TOP GUN: Surprise! Sarah Palin’s “Going Rogue” enters the hardcover non-fiction list at No. 1. Since the book’s release, at least two wits have rushed to supply the index it so frustratingly lacks. Slate’s Christopher Beam and The Daily Beast’s Christopher Buckley both noted Palin’s references to Plato (Page 24); Alec Baldwin (“preference for Stephen over,” Page 314); and John Kerry (“elitist loon,” Page 181). But Beam gets extra credit for noting Palin’s endorsement of Kid Rock (“pro-American” with “common sense ideas,” Page 300), while Buckley directs readers to “Sarah Palin, likability of” (Pages 1 to 413). Palin doesn’t offer any gift recommendations, but she does give a shout-out to childhood favorites “Jonathan Livingston Seagull,” “Animal Farm” and “anything by C. S. Lewis.”

Steven, November 28, 2009 2:14 PM

I completely disagree with you Techno on this so-called, "loading dock" moment. I think it accrues to the benefit of Sarah Palin that she would go out of her way to address a person no matter how that person looks on a question of concern. Keep in mind this same woman when she was being ushered out of the bookstore was already saying that Palin really isn't really "a woman for the people," if you will and then Palin takes that notion to the woodshed when she goes to the dock to address this woman. From Palin's perspective, it was an opportunity to address a person from the Canadian press, which given where she was signing books, probably was something that amazed her that they would come all the way down to ask her a question. Also the premise of the question was one of desiring words of encouragement for Canadian conservatives who are in the throes of socialism up in Canada. So I think given her not knowing at all who this woman was but seeing she was from the press and a person seemingly coming from the conservative underground in Canada looking for encouragement, what else was Palin to do? She was damned if she ignored her and damned if she answered her question?

As far as the left wing blogs, its all a distraction from the truly laughable White House who allowed a major state dinner to be crashed by two ordinary citizens. That was the real amateurish incident that happened that day and to not draw attention to the fecklessness present in this White House, the left goes to its tried and true distraction gambit using Sarah Palin as usual. So in all this I think Palin is not losing sleep over this nor wasting facebook space over this trumped up incident.

Cheney is NOT a conservative on fiscal or social issues. I look at him as neo-conservative because I still believe that a total war in Iraq (that took out a lot of political infrastructure) was unnecessary. I still think we could have left the country in the hands of the Sunni powers, replaced Saddam, at far far far less cost in lives, money, etc.

We need the lady Reagan not a worldly overly-provocative interventionist. Granted we needed the surge to get us on the road to finish the job, but Cheney lacks prudence and will be worthless in trying to trim big government back.

KeeleyH, November 28, 2009 2:20 PM

Yes, Sarah has done an interview with Charlie Rose in 2006, then-Gov of AZ Janet Napolitano was also there. Sarah talked mostly about energy issues.

Of course I'm not suggesting that Sarah talks as slowly as BO. I'm also not saying that slow=intelligent. But talking slowly enough would help you form more complete sentences and enable you to give answers with more clarity. It's all about letting the voters understand what you are saying, and let them see that you appear comfortable and in command of the subject matter. I see what I see and feel what I feel as a member of the TV audience watching interviews of various politicians. It's just my observation.

This woman is more like Sacha Baron Cohen. A satirist. Sarah and her team will just have to learn about these people as they go along, and play along in jest if she feels like it.

I understand the lady tried to punk Sarah. But didn't she ask a reasonable
question and Sarah gave a reasonable answer ? How did that make Sarah look
bad ?

That likability of, 1-413 riposte by Buckley was a funny one.

With regards to her "coffee with Hillary" section, I wonder if she's aware that Hillary spent a summer working a cannery in Valdez? I bet they could talk about that. Seems like they may have more in common than she knows.

As for these polls and all, it's Nov 2009! Polls at this point, while fun, don't really mean anything.

So much can and will change. The good news is that she's right there with any of the other contenders, and certainly among conservatives and evangelicals she's right near the top. A primary will likely come down to Iowa. If she wins there, she'll be the nominee. If not, a bit more difficult. 5 of the last 6 Iowa winners went on to be the nominee.

The good news is that Iowa was 90% conservative, 45% very conservative and 60% evangelical. Largely rural. Has already shown that they are not buying what Romney is selling. The bad news is that they are buying what Huckabee is selling. Her task will be to get enough support(and hopefully be able to add some anti-Obama Clinton types with long memories)and beat Huckabee. If she wins Iowa, it'll all be over.

The Huckabee/Palin bloc like the McCain/Giuliani bloc last year will always be the largest bloc and it will consist of voters who are relatively similar. Whoever wins the lion's share will win. 2010 could be very big. If she supports a good number of Senate/House/Gov candidates and they win and the GOP has a good showing, that'll go a long way towards helping her. Like Nixon in 1966 she'll have built up a strong nationwide network of support(and of people who will have memories come 2011/2012). Another successful book in the fall of 2010(given the 1st one, it's virtually a certainty)will also help. She has plenty of time to focus on improving in the various areas she needs to.

The bottom line is that her chances at this point are as good as those of just about anyone at this point in an election cycle(3 yrs out). Better than Obama's in Nov, 2005. Better than Bill Clinton's in Nov 1989. Better than Dole's in Nov 1993. Better than Kerry's in Nov 2001. Better than McCain in Nov 2005.

I have strong confidence that given the retail politics nature of Iowa, the relative smallness of the state, and her own skills, that given a year or so to campaign in Iowa, she'll do just fine.

As for the general, the bottom line will be Obama's approval rating. If he's been consistenly below 50 by the time of the election, she'll probably win. If he's consistently above 50, she probably won't.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull was one of my favorites TOO!!

I have her a shout out. I hope she takes the golf club and knocks his ***** 300 yards down the fairway.
You go girl!!!
As my perfect wife said, that's how a European wife handles her problem.
Tiger is a sleeze.

One of the key factors will be money. She will need not only small donors but the big pockets pulling for her along with hopefully 527's attacking Obama. It will be important to gradually bring the GOP at the national level on board but without taking away the outsiderness of her movement.

I just finished Going Rogue. The last 30 or so pages I was in tears a lot of the time. She just makes me so proud. What a wonderful & thankful soul she is.

Sarah is grateful for all things God has given her.

Barrack thinks all is owed to him.

I pray she'll be our next president.

If the info I received proves to be inaccurate I will apologize on C4P. However, there is word now that Tiger told a 'friend' that his wife confronted him over reports he was involved with another woman...and that his wife scratched his face during the argument...he then left the house and his wife then came out with a golf club striking the vehicle and hit the hydrant and then a nearby tree.

And there is word now that Elin is now changing the story she originally told police.

Also there was no blood on the steering wheel of the SUV, putting in doubt that Tiger sustained the injuries from the crash.

It is what it is but I hope to hell it isn't.

I am not gloating but here is a post from David Frum on Mitt Romney's 'evangelical problem'.

Sarah Palin today made history as the first even elected official and conservative to make it to #1 on the USA Today best seller list.

O/T:

TCM is going to showing The Mortal Storm at 4:15 PM; it's a story about the rise of Fascism and Nazism and how it poisons the entire community and invokes fear and terror before the advent of WWII.

A great article on the nature of evil and how psychopaths and sociopaths gravitate towards political life and the ramifications in public policy.

Hillary worked in Alaska for a summer slimming fish, I think it was the year 1964, same year that Sarah was born! Hillary said slimming fish prepared her for Washington D.C.. LOL.

Much like you, the sports community will gladly sacrifice Elin at the alter of their golden goose, throwing fuel on the fire to quicken her demise. Unfortunately, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck. Don't worry, he'll still bring in the crowds and hold onto his endorsements, but much like Obama, only his worshippers will see him in the same way again.
Me, I'll put my money on the sacrificial lamb. Tiger obviously knows who is responsible for this sordid affair, and will do everything he can to smooth things over. Why? Because, unlike Tiger, Elin Nordegren's reputation is above reproach. The Parnevik family, who she nannied for, and who introduced her to Tiger, can attest to this. How does this relate to Sarah Palin? Because every time you compare SP to Tiger Woods I can't help but think you've chosen the wrong wood. It is Elin, the strong independant woman who more closely relates to her. But then again, why would you consider that.

Thanks for sharing. That was great..

People that have trouble understanding why Lady Sarah responded to the "weird lady" Canadian ambush have never been to Alaska. A lot of what would be considered "weird" in the country at large is pretty run-of-the-mill here. This state has a LARGE number of "end-of-the-roaders", social "misfits" and other individualists that settle here because they just don't 'fit in' "mainstream" society. You have to be REALLY peculiar to not be accepted up here.....
