She Did It Her Way....

Remember over the last few months when all the pundits, strategists, consultants and RNC hacks were busy giving Governor Palin advice about what moves she should make if she wanted to return to the political big time?

Well I’m pleased to say she totally ignored them and decided to do it her way – the Palin way...and guess what – it has worked to perfection. Interestingly enough SamHenry at ON MY WATCH agrees.

Sarah Palin’s timing and strategy should be in a required reading political text: “Palin on Politics – How to time it; how to move in the political and media morass.”
...
Now, in a time of deep distress and uncertainty in our nation, Sarah Palin is a beacon of survival and of creative self-initiative. She is now the master-in-chief of her image and her message. She is now poised at the brink of, well, her next strategic, well-timed move. The suspense builds; the speculation continues – Sarah, what a success you are and on YOUR terms!

Read the rest here including a perceptive analysis of how she controlled Oprah and how she has managed to align herself close to the Tea Party movement without sacrificing her own freedom of manoeuvre.

I know she is a runner and a hunter but I am not so sure I would want to play chess with the 'Cuda...

It's what you can do when your dumb as a fox... Sarah's connection to natural survival in the Alaskan Wild has prepared her well... who would have thought?

Im thinking Sarah's tactical prowess is going to be studied for years to come in Political Science class of all those elite schools she never could attend.
Heck!... military manuals-of-war could learn a thing or two.

Seriously!

Funny...i can relate to that!

Whitney,  November 27, 2009 7:28 PM

I like the title of this post, David! It reminds me of the Frank Sinatra song. When I went to the bookstore to buy Sarah's book, there was a car in the parking lot that had a bumper sticker that said, "What the World Needs is Another Frank Sinatra". I know some of Frank Sinatra songs, but not a lot about his life. However, in the context of this post, I think it is fitting.

Whitney,  November 27, 2009 7:32 PM

Mia,
Are you saying that you aren't innocent?

Mia,  November 27, 2009 7:34 PM

Hey Whit...ummm...hmmm...BINGO!

Message for the good old boys in Washington and in both political parties:

Beware of a WOMAN with a mission....especially if her kids are involved.  You're about to find out what happens when a Mama Polar Bear with the instincts of the Sly Artic Fox and the guts and courage of an Army Commando takes on Washington and the most corrupt administration and Congress in my lifetime.  Trying to marginalize and destroy Sarah....BIG MISTAKE.   I don't think the Ivy League Schools have a course on what you're about to experience.

JeanA,  November 27, 2009 8:20 PM

"It came just after the start of the book tour. The tour was ALREADY a success so she brought lots of fans and leverage to the O show."

The Oprah interview was before the book was released and the tour started.  The book was number one but the tour was not a success on paper yet.

Explain????

JeanA,  November 27, 2009 8:22 PM

And the most corrupt Lamestream media ever.

Nancy,  November 27, 2009 8:28 PM

O/T BOR is having a full hour of Body Language Expert Lady clips.
Classic.
The whole range of fruit loopers on display.
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi together.
Whoopi Goldberg.
Joe Biden.
President Obama and TOTUS.

So, fun!

Nancy,  November 27, 2009 8:29 PM

Actually, TOTUS isn't a fruit looper.
Sorry TOTUS!

Recovering Democrat,  November 27, 2009 8:56 PM

I can't stand body language lady. She never says ANYTHING nice about Sarah. She always thinks Sarah is nervous or full of apprehension.

Today in the clip re-run, it was from the resignation speech. Body-language lady says it was either "apprehension or anger."

Ummm ...ok, whatever you say. Anger and apprehension are very different things aren't they?

And would Sarah not have a right to be angry being driven from the job that she loves by idiots intent on bankrupting her?

Mia,  November 27, 2009 9:06 PM

Where's Whitney???...We need the Middle Finger avatar...

As a self-appointed spokesperson for the upcoming Palin Administration in 2013, I'm giving a heads-up to The Sarc Sisters that President Palin will be creating a new 'Sarcasm Czar' position. This 'Sarcasm Czar' will be assigned to THE Lame-stream Media and all the assorted nut-jobs hold-overs from the Obama Administration.

Requirements for  'Sarcasm Czar' will include taking "SARCASM 101":

My Response...."Surly... you Don't mean Me!"...hehehe...

BTW...I would babysit her kids!...hmmm...

whitney...

I know your much younger so good to know you appreciate Frank Sinatra... he was my generation... and when he came along with  "I did It My Way"... It became my favorite.

It gives me chills.. but thinking of Sarah... that song fits her life like no other since Frank Sinatra.

Nancy,  November 27, 2009 10:13 PM

Could Norm be more icky?
Ah. No.

Recovering Democrat,  November 27, 2009 10:15 PM

One of my favorite parts of the book is where Sarah said she is never one to hold a grudge and that the next time she saw Schmidt she thought she might give him a white peace lily. LOL

narciso,  November 27, 2009 10:16 PM

Sorry for the image, Mia, but one has to wonder, on occasion. Now there is a commenter on Patterico, & PW, happy feet, who really has a visceral Allah like dislike for Sarah. It surfaced as far as I can recall with  Bristol's
announcement, and only amplified with her resignation. Some people just can't be budged no matter what the evidence. He regards activities like those here, like a Tigerbeat like distraction, from the real issues of socialist
encroachment, which I assume Romney or Huckabee will address any day no. The irony of that applying to sites like Race42008 and GOP 12. clearly escapes him

Mia,  November 27, 2009 10:29 PM

I would give SchmitHead...pesci morti...

Jesse Cornish,  November 27, 2009 10:44 PM

Sarah Palin always struck me as someone who would enjoy the noble game of checkers more than chess.

LadySam,  November 27, 2009 10:45 PM

OT:
Posted on another thread..........I bought the Audio of the book today.  It is GREAT.  You get the inflections in her voice and can almost see the facial expressions.

Ceejay,  November 27, 2009 10:48 PM

Body language girl can go get a real job, can not stand her, can we stay"mute" on the remote!

Sarah 2012!

Ceejay,  November 27, 2009 10:51 PM

You know what is really double standard...is that we had a series called "Commander in Chief, where Geena Davis played the President, now where are the women???

Can they not support anything?? Where is NOW?? Hey I am woman, but do not hear any roaring....help!!

Sarah 2012!

Jesse Cornish,  November 27, 2009 10:59 PM

Strong, independent, conservative women don't count, don't you know?

Nancy,  November 27, 2009 11:01 PM

Maybe instead of typing O/T, we should just type GR-Going Rogue.

GR-I am on page of 256, of the book, and I am definately going back and rereading it with a highlighter.
I am at the part where she is explaining the thinking of going with Katie Couric for one of the first interviews. She says the campaign's thought was going with someone who had treated John well on the trail thus far.
Those idiots didn't realize that of course the media was treating John McCain "well", they wanted and loved that he was the nominee! He was roadkill for them on the way to crowning The Messiah!
Numbnuts!

Bestbud,  November 27, 2009 11:04 PM

LadySam

You just sold another one... thanks

Nancy,  November 27, 2009 11:05 PM

I have decided that the campaign couldn't let Sarah be Sarah, because she might just snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, that they had set their hearts on.

RedDaveR,  November 27, 2009 11:20 PM

I found it puzzling where Wallace claimed that Katie liked Sarah, and that supposedly it was going to be a "mellow" interview about balancing work and motherhood. From this I can only conclude that either: A) Couric BS'd Wallace; or B) Wallace BS'd Sarah. I wonder if we'll ever know which.

That certainly explains why Sarah may not have been sufficiently prepared.
She was blindsided.

Nancy,  November 27, 2009 11:21 PM

Sorry, page 255.

Izzy,  November 27, 2009 11:39 PM

I listened to Sarah's book twice...awesome.  The AUDIO version is best for me.  I have it now on my iphone.  If I start to be depressed by Obama...just plug in Sarah's Audio book and I just turn optimistic.

PatrickinOH,  November 27, 2009 11:46 PM

OT this is a short post but it is good and interesting, says how all the the liberal blogs are just obsessed with Sarah one site over 90% of the postings are about her here it is:
http://politicallore.com/blog/?p=588

Nancy,  November 27, 2009 11:49 PM

GR-I just read page 283, and Mark yelling: "Wrong, Governor! Wrong, wrong, wrong!" at her during debate prep, and it makes me think not very nice thoughts about him.

Whitney,  November 27, 2009 11:53 PM

Reading GR makes you feel GRRR sometimes, doesn't it, Nancy?

narciso,  November 27, 2009 11:54 PM

First of all, Nicole went to the Huffington Post, to refute Sarah's account, which was like Fredo going with Johnny Olla and the Roudhouse Boys "You are dead to me" (sorry AMC has been running Godfather on a loop this weekend)I still
bear a grudge against Lowry and  Martin and Cameron, for repeating all those rumors and lies, without confirmation.

Mia,  November 27, 2009 11:57 PM

Up Yours...Bucko...was my thought...Okay...Okay...I substituted Bucko...

Nancy,  November 27, 2009 11:57 PM

Whitney,
Yes!!:) I can not wait until she runs her own campaign! If she runs someday!:)

PatrickinOH,  November 28, 2009 12:01 AM

To be fair to Lowry I was watching that FOX News Watch show last Saturday and he was the only one who was really on her side and defending her, even the other conservative on the panel was parroting the old tired line "well I think she would be good as a talk show host"

Mia,  November 28, 2009 12:02 AM

The kiss of death...YIKES!

Whitney,  November 28, 2009 12:04 AM

Here you go, Mia!

gelston the knowitall,  November 28, 2009 12:08 AM

OK, the day after Thanksgiving and time for seconds
Here is another Sarah palin story from the TriCity Herald on the Turkey trot Sarah ran in:

http://www.tri-cityherald.com/kennewick_pasco_richland/story/808281.html

There are excellent pictures. Number 18 is one of my all time favorites. I noticed one was sent in by Mr. Forbes, whom I believe is Neo.

PatrickinOH,  November 28, 2009 12:12 AM

I am thinking that Sarah will run, because Laura Ingraham asked Sarah in her interview if she could get behind anybody right now for the President , she said no, who is very likely in the running? Mitt, Huckabee, Pawlenty, and some other ppl's names I do not know, the point is if Sarah can not feel she can get behind any of the prospective republican candidates she will run and yes she will win against Obama or maybe someone else (Hillary?) I am beginning to question whether he will even run for reelection for 2012 or maybe he won't get renominated, btw any word on Sarah's new group she is supposed to be starting soon?

narciso,  November 28, 2009 12:13 AM

Before this gets two maudling, recall that account of Biden stretching before the debate,s and she wonders what should she do in return, that's a LMAO moment.

PatrickinOH,  November 28, 2009 12:16 AM

One more thing, I did meet Laura Ingraham a year ago at a pro-life event here in Dayton, she is a very nice lady and beautiful as well

Whitney,  November 28, 2009 12:17 AM

That part of the book cracked me up!

narciso,  November 28, 2009 12:36 AM

Nancy,  November 28, 2009 12:38 AM

Oh my gosh! I just read that part! Too funny!
I am laughing alot reading this book.
I really dig her sarcasm!:)

KeeleyH,  November 28, 2009 12:50 AM

I'm still in the middle of reading the chapter on the campaign. The Joe Biden stretching part was funny. I can just picture Biden stretching. LOL.

There will probably be a book review thread later. But I have to just briefly say that the fuss about her "complaints" and her "vindictiveness" was so over-the-top. If you believe everything the MSM say, you would have thought that mean Sarah is being a big meanie. Her account of some of the details is actually more tongue-in-cheek, and revealing in a very interesting and potentially educational way for future campaign handlers (what not to do). Sarah is giving her perspective of the campaign, what it felt like to be "packaged" and controlled. The reference to "Headquarters" is actually quite comical.

While the chapter on the campaign is kind of entertaining, it's the first three chapters on her childhood, her years as mayor and then governor that I find most intriguing and revealing about who Sarah Palin is. People mock her "small town mayor" experience, but it was her experience with retail politics at the small town level that groomed her to be the natural that she is on the national stage today. You cannot *study* retail politics and connection to people at Ivy league schools. You have to actually LIVE it.

Anyway, more later...

That's  the thing, it's a bit of a absurd view of the campaign, Monty Python would be considered documentary. But she is great at the meet and great, and that is New Hampshire, Iowa, a few other states, we saw the crowds she generated everywhere, from Carson City to Port St. Lucie, and everywhere in between. We see this in microcosm on the book tour

ellen,  November 28, 2009 1:21 AM

It seems like Ingraham is one of Sarah's favorites. When she was on her show last week Sarah complimented her and thanked her about a zillion times. Also, she quoted her book "Power to the People" in one of her speeches. I believe it was the Evansville Right To Life speech.

Anonymous,  November 28, 2009 1:50 AM

It makes that phrase take on a whole new meaning. : )

CruelaDev,  November 28, 2009 2:14 AM

David...With regards to you last line about the chess thingy....

Sarah is not smart enough to play chess...remember?  Plus she is a girl and if she won...they would just
say that you let her win because she is a girl.

P.S....What does the "P" stand for in Aged P?....I have all kinds of thoughts running through my brain....you know how I am....;)

RAM is with sarah i just know it.

Anonymous,  November 28, 2009 4:02 AM

Regrets I've had a few
But then again too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption

I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Yes there were times I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out, I faced it all
And I stood tall and did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now as tears subside
I find it all so amusing

To think I did all that
And may I say not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way

For what is a man what has he got
If not himself then he has not
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way

Yes it was my way
I think it certainly fits her

BetseyRoss,  November 28, 2009 9:37 AM

It was funny.  Perhaps a tad weird, too.  My husband and I got a kick out of that part.  But she was the one that disarmed him in the end.  I guess calling him Joe worked out to her advantage along with her killer smile.  Poor Joe, never had a chance.

My Favorite "Blue Eyes" song... your right on!... it fits Sarah like no other public figure today

bpk1300,  November 28, 2009 12:20 PM

speaking of Wallace --- She has been absent from Fox since the excerpts from the book came out...wonder what she is up to and down to...depending on your point of view...she was a reason for mute in my opinion even before I knew of her involvement with Madame 45

bpk1300,  November 28, 2009 12:21 PM

that is all fine and well but why does she not have Tammy Bruce subbing for her...hmmmm

hrh,  November 28, 2009 1:22 PM

She was on MSNBC Rachel Maddow the day the book came out. Opposite her former home with Hannity.

hrh,  November 28, 2009 1:25 PM

Yep, he still takes every chance he gets - wherever he is in the world - to say that he likes Sarah.

juju,  November 28, 2009 1:55 PM

You want want some different opinions about Sarah???  Go take a look at RACE42012.  Those good old boys don't have anything good to say about her.  Makes me want to barf.  Are they blind at her out pouring of support for her book.  What is with these guys???

David L Riddick (aka The Aged P),  November 28, 2009 2:34 PM

Hi Cruela - the P in Aged P stands for The Aged Parent...he was the father of Wemmick, a character in "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens.....he was a cheerful old man who just sat in his chair all day and smiled at everyone...a bit like me.....lol...
