Andrew Koneschusky, Lobbyist, Thinks Governor Palin Should Be More Substantial...
You know I’m really missing out on a great business sideline in political journalism – the one that seems to always pop up about half way through a political piece where the writer, needing a little padding to reach the word count ordered by the editor, goes to some rent a quote hack for those vital 200 words to act as filler.
What sparked me off was reading a relatively bland article on Governor Palin’s book tour by Andrea Billups in the Washington Times. It wasn’t particularly unfriendly except when Andrea suddenly started quoting Andrew Koneschusky, “a vice president in the public affairs practice of D.C.-based Levick Strategic Communications”
Now that is a title – great to throw out at dinner parties over the soup to the attractive brunette on your right hand who you hope is still single...beats being a bus driver any day....
It was Andrew’s quotes about the Governor that set me thinking.
He had to say, more in sorrow than in anger that she had a “perceived” lack of substance.
Instead of taking that off the table by delving into more substantive realms, she's lashing out at critics and she's attacking left and right and pretty much confirming and solidifying the image that a lot of people already have of her
But be not downhearted....Andrew’s there to help. All she needs to do is to get rid of that burning anger and toxic bitterness . She has to offer a positive message and show “some substantial chops” (I do hope he is not being sexist here – you Americans often use words in a sometimes embarrassingly different way....I remember the awkward silence that fell when I asked a visitor from New York if he fancied a faggot for lunch...)
I have to confess some puzzlement at Andrew’s characterisation of the Governor. She has always struck me as a cheerful, feisty, warm hearted lady but who am I to judge? I am an elderly Englishman, living in the ancient forest of the Sussex Weald – what would I know about “public affairs practice” – all I ever did was teach teenagers for forty years.
Nevertheless I thought I would just check Andrew out to see if maybe I had missed a little nuance and discovered something very interesting. Before ascending to the giddy heights of veeping at D.C.-based Levick Strategic Communications Andrew had worked with Senator Chuck Schumer (Crazy Chucky) – pro choice, pro Fannie & Freddie, pro gun control, pro pork ("And let me say this to all the chattering classes that so much focus on those little, tiny, yes porky amendments. The American people really don’t care”)
He has also worked with Representative John Murtha (I wonder if he was one of the thirty passengers a day at Murtha’s airport for no one that has soaked up $150 million from all you generous taxpayers) so it would seem that Andrew must be well versed in the art of pork.
Would it really come as a surprise to you, dear reader, to learn that Andrew has also been a big cheese with the Louisiana Democratic Party, not usually described as the cleanest political machine in America?
Essentially, then, Andrew is a lobbyist who has worked for some of the biggest Democratic porksters in politics which, of course, makes him the ideal person to offer up some well intended and carefully balanced advice to one of the country’s biggest porkbusters.
So, in the interests of research, just let’s imagine that Andrea was running a piece on Andrew and decided to ring me here in England for some sound, caring advice...maybe it would go like this..
Andrew needs to break away from working with DC windbags and get some experience with people who actually run things and accept responsibility. Helping implement one of the largest infrastructure projects in American history would be a good start. He could also get involved with the preparation of a multi million dollar budget and see that it was spent wisely rather than on airports to nowhere while, at the same time, doing some legwork on an ethics reform programme. After a few years of that he might gain “substance” and “chops”
But maybe Andrew wouldn’t be too keen on that – can you imagine the consternation amongst Andrew and his fellow lobbyists at Levick at the mere suggestion of someone going to Washington and taking an axe to the pork and the lobbying and spending several days on a line by line crunching of earmarks scoring them for utility and value for money?
That must be Andrew’s worst nightmare – he might have to stop being a lobbyist and do something useful like driving a bus.....no wonder he hasn’t got a very high opinion of the ‘Cuda – she is his nemisis.........

Amen Brother!!!. I'm thinking about talking my wife into running against Schumer. Seriously. And I'll bet that in this political environment she would win. BTW She is a consevative Republican born and raised in Long Island who is a teacher in the toughest district on the Island. She would at least carry Long Island and Upstate but I just don't think that the dingbats in the city would vote against Chuckie which would make it real close.
Awesome job fisking that guy David. Cheers!
I used to live on Long Island. Cool! I hope your wife kicks Chuckie's butt.
In many career arenas, there is a saying " Those who cannot do teach". This is not meant to disparage teachers because everyone should find his/her niche in life and without teachers to open the doors of the mind how would we be able to discover those niches. So some go to universities and acquire the knowledge to be a great scientist, or a great musician....but at some point the reality hits and decisions are made that maybe I'm better suited to inspiring others to achieve that goal. They found their niche as a teacher.
However in the political world, it seems that all the players aspire to be great leaders. But few are chosen. Those with the aspiration but lacking in the substance and ability to be leaders, they tend to stay in the political arena as close to their altar as they can. Those who do not have the gravitas to actually lead often do what they are most comfortable at... talking and
offering critical critiques of the abilities of those who have obviously been born to lead and govern and inspire trust and respect. Those who talk the loudest or the most often or the are the most critical are often the ones with the least talent. So failing in what they aspired to become, they become columnists, or pundits, or news anchors or even members of congress where they can pretend to be revelant and satisfy their egos with their delusional self-importance.
And on a rare occasion by some freak of nature or a misalignment of the stars, one of these leadership failures becomes President of the United States. Fortunately, these disasters are extremely rare and lasts but a few years until the stars become realigned and God presents the world with a true leader tasked with cleaning up the mess.
Sarah is such a leader....blessed and gifted by God.
I must say I like that elderly English teacher.
David, I so enjoy reading your articles. They make me smile.
Sarah is, at long last, doing fine. She is laying out her General Line and will flesh it out over the coming year. This is actually how it's done.
It's a little ironic no, she was able to deepsix a Senate provision with one Facebook post, torpedo C& T with one Washington Post Op Ed, was the leader in pushing the President on Afghanistan, such as it was. Andrew should really look for another line of work
Warning to those who have "perceptions" about the seriousness of Mrs. Palin.
Who could have seen her come this far, this fast, through a resignation a year ago?
Being a real Palintologist I'm ready to make my predictions for next year baised on interviews we've already seen:
1.) She WILL be stumping across the country to lead a new congress and senate.
2.) She WILL strengthen her gravitas by authoring another book. This one on energy independence.
a.) She told Barbara Wlaters that she wanted to write and not do a talk show. (This also gives her more freedom with the family.)
b.) She said she didn't want to write about herself again.
c.) She said she wanted to write about energy independence.
d.) She is the guru of energy issues... it's about Alaska... it's 50% of our trade deficit... it employs... it's attached to manufacturing... it's attached to union labor... it's attached to national and world security. (You know energy=work)
e.) Obama and the rest of his commie clowns see energy issues only as "global warming"... and we see how that's working for 'em. (Has he turned back the waters or healed the earth yet?)
This guy gets around. The bigtime move to U.S. Rep. Jack Murtha (D-PA) in Nov. 2006 after bailing on (or promoted away from?) Brooklyn Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY):

On to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in Mar. 2007:

Then off capital hill (address wise) to Levick Strategic Communications in Sep. 2007.
And where it all got rolling. His candidate did not win:

THIS SUMMER, the Louisiana Democratic Party shipped in Koneschusky from Vermont, where he served as deputy press secretary for presidential hopeful Howard Dean. He's a long way from his home in Staten Island, N.Y., but Koneschusky is already well adjusted to the ways of bayou politics.
But Koneschusky shares a CBS News page next to Katie Couric's outdated photo. Here he gloats and shares him warm glow of how the Dems. passed Obamacare in the House of Reps.:

How The Dems Got Their (PR) Groove Back On Andrew Koneschusky: Healthcare: Control the Language, Control the Visuals, Control the Debate

They note he blogs: "(CBS) Andrew Koneschusky is a Vice President at Levick Strategic Communications in Washington, DC and writes for Bulletproof Blog."
1. Control the Language: Oh, he covers the not so subtle effort here to fool the people. It reads like a CRU "hide the decline" email. But don't feel left out, he smears Republicans as cartoonish with Tea Partiers as "virtual mob scenes."
2. Control the Visuals: This is where President Clinton's lunch on Capital Hill is stated as simply a photo op because they work. Nevermind that Clinton was pinch hitting because Obama had to go to Ft. Hood for the recognition of slain troops from a homegrown jihadi in the wire. Patriotism or shared national sorrow? Naw, partisan politics at all times.
While he invokes us to behold the power of Clinton by stating merely his presence enacted the release of the 2 female journalists in North Korea, he does note how uplifting it was for that murdering regime. No mention of those actually murdered, starved, reeducated, or otherwise discarded along with cries of humanity and human rights that were ignored in this exchange for Al Gore employees who put North Korean citizens lives at true risk, with no jet to fly out on (or able to sell their story for millions), or the setback to human rights from propping up Kim Jong Il further. A great photo op none the less, right?
3. Control the Debate: His lesson in mind mapping is that if you control the language and visuals, you win the debate regardless of facts. Aren't you so pleased you came along for the elitist ride? No need to hire him now.
P.S. People want Obamacare. What is he smoking?
