Brigadier General Anthony J. Tata: ‘Going Rogue’ Reveals Palin’s Ready to Lead

Brigadier General Anthony J. Tata writing for Big Hollywood:

Mark Twain’s famous quote, “Never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel,” resonates loudly in my mind as I finish Sarah Palin’s captivating story, Going Rogue.

But Palin ain’t buying it by the barrel, she’s got a whole pipeline of pure grade indigo flowing from the North Slope as she pumps up the volume on her NY Times #1 bestselling memoir.

When I got about halfway through the book I set it down, stepped outside of my Washington, DC townhouse and went for a run around the U.S. Capitol. Listening to the Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band, and Lil Bow Wow (my daughter slipped that one in there) on my iPod, the recurrent thought in my mind was that this woman is far more qualified to be president of the United States than the current occupant of the White House.

When I completed the journey that is Going Rogue, I wrote down five things:

–She is a positive role model for all Americans
–She is an executive, takes on hard problems and makes tough decisions
–She has tremendous energy, balance and intellect
–America shafted itself in this last election
–Alaska is lucky to have her

Oh, and a sixth, Sarah Palin could be the next president of the United States.

Her book washes away all doubts that any reader might have had about her readiness to be president. She comes across as exceptionally bright, dedicated, and passionate about public service. Her moral compass is strong, pointing true North in this case. And she has a wicked sense of humor.

This DC-based general knows what he is fighting for !

(as does McCrystal, Petraeus, etc.)

Bill in Baltimore,  December 3, 2009 3:24 PM

Dan C,  December 3, 2009 3:25 PM

wisetrog,  December 3, 2009 3:31 PM

Is he your DC-based source?

LadySam,  December 3, 2009 3:35 PM

I love this man's perspective!!!!

Bill in Baltimore,  December 3, 2009 3:36 PM

No, mine is better :-)

but Tata is a good ally !

Bill in Baltimore,  December 3, 2009 3:39 PM

The people that go to West Point are regular Americans. There are no elites.

Same as with the great men and women of all services.

Know any politicians with kids in the service ? Hmmmmmm

oh, yeah.
SARAH PALIN. Infantry
JOHN MCCAIN. not sure, but I doubt he's a lawyer
JOE BIDEN's son. Lawyer. Fighting for ...

LadySam,  December 3, 2009 3:43 PM

I love this man's perspective!!!  Read the whole articlem it is definately worth it.

LadySam,  December 3, 2009 3:43 PM

the would be 'article'

Hefmier,  December 3, 2009 3:44 PM

I just posted that article over at TeamSarah.

Mary Beth (Über),  December 3, 2009 3:45 PM

My dream ticket in 2012 is Palin/West.

Don't know who West is??

Listen to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP2p91dvm6M

He's FANTASTIC.  And no wonder...he reminds me a lot of her...two people who LOVE their country and know we're in for the fight of our lives.

We need to make sure Palin sees who he is in the months and years to come because if she ends up being our candidate, I want her to know he's an option.

PALIN/WEST 2012!

PatrickinOH,  December 3, 2009 3:46 PM

The military needs more generals like Anthony J. Tata, needs less people like George Casey and Colin Powell

CharterOakie,  December 3, 2009 3:49 PM

Excellent!  If you haven't yet done so, follow the link to Big Hollywood and read the General's bio, then read his full article on Sarah.  Well worth it.

Mary Beth (Über),  December 3, 2009 3:54 PM

Whoa...what happened to my comment ??

Bill in Baltimore,  December 3, 2009 3:55 PM

What did I tell you all this past summer ?

- if they ignore her or dismiss her, her supporters grow stronger

- if they attacker her, her support grows explosively

- if they join her, her support grows exponentially

um, and where are we now ?????

:-) x infinity

ellen,  December 3, 2009 3:56 PM

- she is an executive, takes on hard problems and makes tough decisions.

One thing that I am most impressed with in GR was her decision regarding rights for same sex couples.  I don't remember the exact issue, but she chose to grant the rights to same sex couples because was constitutional, even though she is against same sex marriage.

If ever leader were this honest, our country would be much closer to what the founding fathers had envisioned.

Ted Torgerson,  December 3, 2009 3:56 PM

Great article.

manajordan,  December 3, 2009 3:57 PM

I really loved this article. Thanks so much for posting it.

PatrickinOH,  December 3, 2009 4:01 PM

When I was in high school I was friends with a guy who's father happened to be a Major General (two-star) over at Wright-Patt AFB, long story short he was on his way to becoming a three star general (lieutenant general) but he had a slight disagreement with the Secretary of the Air Force over something and he was forced into early retirement!  his name was Perry L. Lamy

Bill in Baltimore,  December 3, 2009 4:01 PM

Ted, that is such an awesome avatar, I'm not familiar with that pic.

What joy she is / brings.

PatrickinOH,  December 3, 2009 4:04 PM

Obama refused to have picture taken with F-22 fighter at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska: http://hotair.com/archives/2009/12/03/obama-refused-to-be-photographed-with-f-22/comment-page-1/#comments
Maybe Cuda will have a facebook post about this

I hope you're doing alright. Glad to see you posting comments again.

I always enjoy your comments.

DefCon66,  December 3, 2009 4:13 PM

I've already seen the vid and your right, he would be an outstanding running mate and at the very least a strong leader in Congress.

hrh,  December 3, 2009 4:17 PM

Oh yeah, come on over to BH for this article. I'm taking on some people, including "guest," who really know nothing about Sarah.

Join the fun!

hrh,  December 3, 2009 4:17 PM

I'm hrh40 over there ...

riley4palin,  December 3, 2009 4:17 PM

I nominate Brigadier General Anthony J. Tata for a cabinet position in the Palin Administration.

Indemind,  December 3, 2009 4:18 PM

Gen. Tata lives inside the Beltway but thinks outside that BOX. He donated $27,000, the sum of his royalties so far, from his novel to the USO Metro DC Hospital Services Fund for Wounded Warriors at Walter Reed and Bethesda Military Medical Centers. He thinks Sarah is a positive role model for all Americans and thinks that Sarah Palin could be the next President of the United States. But most of all, he's a Paisano, Italiano AMERICAN.

sarah 2012

Ted Torgerson,  December 3, 2009 4:19 PM

I like it because you can kind of see the two women in the background yelling, "Yeah!" You know she just gave a zinger to Obama, and she has this sweet smile on her face while she twists the knife.

Ted Torgerson,  December 3, 2009 4:21 PM

<span>I like it because you can kind of see the two women in the background yelling, "Yeah!" You know she just gave a zinger to Obama, and she has this sweet smile on her face while she twists the knife.</span>

PatrickinOH,  December 3, 2009 4:21 PM

Maybe National Security Advisor, he would be a vast improvement over "so-called" general Jim Jones, I have heard recently that he is not very pro-Israel

jimr3,  December 3, 2009 4:23 PM

Great article!  Thanks for posting!

GAHanson,  December 3, 2009 4:26 PM

A retired General would be a good VP candidate, no question about defense matters, and even foreign policy.

Mary Beth (Über),  December 3, 2009 4:28 PM

I am just in AWE of him.

I keep envisioning a Palin/West tour of the country... Palin/West campaign stops... Palin/West at the conventions... and wow.  That last one would blow my mind.  Can you imagine what a barn burner both those speeches would be?

If not Col. West, then someone like him... but I'd really love it to be him if we get that far.

gelston the knowitall,  December 3, 2009 4:28 PM

one of my father's very close friends was a 4 star admiral.
i grew up thinking that they must be common.
he develped the concept of the large aircraft carrier.
he was a wonderful man and a gentleman and was very good to me.
I can say that he changed my life, which is a high compliment.

Denise J,  December 3, 2009 4:30 PM

Love the article.Thanks for posting.

Obami would not allow his past to be exposed during the campaign, which would have given the electorate a better and honest way to evaluate his capabilities rather than the now empty idea of the first race bating president.

However, people have a way to see who is really is now, and except for those who want to be blinded by his rhetoric, that is no longer working, are able to see clearly his ineptitude at governing.

Going Rogue is affording Governor Palin to be seen as she really is-- A Real Patriotic,
hardworking, servant of the people, who is also honest, faithful, and steadfast.

No matter what troubles America may face in the future, it's promising with a leader like Governor Palin who is optimistic and reminds us and the world -- that we are Americans!!!

Now that's real hope!

Beehive,  December 3, 2009 4:32 PM

It looks to me that you are more than holding your own. Nice smack down hrh!

riley4palin,  December 3, 2009 4:33 PM

That gives me warm fuzzies.  Thanks for sharing that.  Yep, the Governor needs this guy by her side.

riley4palin,  December 3, 2009 4:39 PM

Perhaps if "headquarters" would have hired this man instead of some of the other questionable characters, things would have turned out better last year.

It is a good thing that Governor Palin is now in charge of her own message and in complete control of everything.  Without a doubt, this man would be someone I would want on my team in some capacity.

Whitney,  December 3, 2009 4:39 PM

"She has a wicked sense of humor." That is a key plank in the conservative woman's platform.

Bill in Baltimore,  December 3, 2009 4:45 PM

can we say "jumping on the bandwagon" ...

techno,  December 3, 2009 4:50 PM

The day after the endorsement by Jim Robinson, owner of FR, comes an 'endorsement' (at least strong recommendation) by a Brigadier General. Oh my!

The road to LEGITIMACY for Sarah Palin just got a little bit shorter.

Deidre,  December 3, 2009 4:54 PM

i can't wait for her to take on Barney Frank this weekend...LOL!!!  I'm laughing already!

CharterOakie,  December 3, 2009 4:56 PM

Giving credit where due, my recollection is that John and Cindy McCain have one son at the USNA and another in the USMC.  Don't know his MOS.

This From Hotair:

<span>OBAMA REFUSED TO HAVE PICTURE TAKEN WITH F-22 FIGHTER AT ALASKA'S ELMENDORF AFB: http://hotair.com/archives/2009/12/03/obama-refused-to-be-photographed-with-f-22/comment-page-1/#comments

"When President Obama spoke to troops at Alaska's Elmendorf Air Force Base last month, the unit there parked a shiny new F-22 fighter plane in the hanger[sic]. But according to multiple sources, White House aides demanded the plane be changed to an older F-15 fighter because they didn't want Obama speaking in front of the F-22, a controversial program he fought hard to end.

"White House aides actually made them remove the F-22...saying they would not allow POTUS to be pictured with the F-22 in any way, shape, or form," one source close to the unit relayed.
Stephen Lee, a public affairs officer at Elmendorf, confirmed to The Cable that the F-22 was parked in the hanger...and then was replaced by an F-15 at the White House's behest.

The airmen there TOOK OFFENSE TO THE OBAMA AIDES' DEMAND, sources told The Cable, SEEING IT AS A SLIGHT TO THE FOLKS WHO ARE OPERATING THE F-22 PROUDLY EVERY DAY. They also expressed bewilderment that the White House staff would even care so much as to make an issue out of the fact that the F-22 was placed in the hanger [sic] with the president."

EXIT QUESTION:How did the Obama Administration actually distinguish between an F-15 and an F-22?
ANSWER: The Obama Administration dressed up a staffer in uniform and sent him into the enemy audience to gather 'enemy' intelligence.
Obama-staffer: "Hi, fellow warrior! This sure would be fine weather to freedom-bomb some Iraqi children, wouldn't it? Hey, LOOKIE THERE! Isn't that one of them new-fangled F-22's?"</span>

Ah, the good general is writing what we all have known for quite a while.  I knew when she could tell her story that she would get and keep many, many, new suppporters.

CharterOakie,  December 3, 2009 5:06 PM

tongue-in-cheek reference to the Sarc Sisters, Whitney?

Actually, "wicked sense of humor" was the only part of his article that I don't fully subscribe to, unless he means "wicked good" or "wicked smaht" like they say in and around Boston.  I think her sense of humor is keen and sharp, but there's not a wicked sentiment in her entire soul, imo.

Mia,  December 3, 2009 5:09 PM

blue or red thong...for O'Barney...hmmm...

Lakerfanalways,  December 3, 2009 5:11 PM

What a shock, Obama doesnt want a picture taken with a soldier..not a shock, he has no problem shaking hands with Chevez or Castro, but has an issue shaking hands with a soldier. Well, we already know how he feels about Alaska and our military so this is not a surprise

Whitney,  December 3, 2009 5:12 PM

Of course, wicked as in wicked good or smart. That's what I took it as. :)

Whitney,  December 3, 2009 5:12 PM

Mia, that was unnecessary.

But it would be blue. He is a Democrat.

DefCon66,  December 3, 2009 5:15 PM

But... I was thinking you could make a Grilled Cheese... for PatrickinOH...He is having appetite issues!....hmmm...

lmg,  December 3, 2009 5:46 PM

There were faint echoes of the Henry V speech at Agincourt in there.

lmg,  December 3, 2009 5:47 PM

Better that they split up because I bet they could each draw huge crowds of slightly different people.

Sapwolf,  December 3, 2009 5:49 PM

For those that want to read a great book about the military, try:

http://www.amazon.com/About-Face-Odyssey-American-Warrior/dp/0671695347/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259880047&sr=1-3

Hackworth's odyssey is a really entertaining book.  It is probably an interesting read given the Afghanistan situation.  I highly recommend it.

tim c,  December 3, 2009 5:49 PM

This is truly the best endorsement yet! Gen. Tata is right of course but I still think it is the best.

riley4palin,  December 3, 2009 5:49 PM

The timing of the Gridiron Dinner is perfect.  I don't think she will hold anything back.

Governor Palin is the #1 Book Seller in the country, the crowds are huge, Obama's policies are not being embraced, and she keeps giving it to the LSM on Facebook.

FoxNews better be in attendance.  Actually, I bet Governor Palin has already lined up her own people to videotape it so that it cannot be distorted.

It will be amazing.  She might as well call it "Palin Night Live" in place of the lame SNL.

TexMex,  December 3, 2009 5:55 PM

OT: Headed over to the Plano bookstore and will camp out in front in a few hours. I don't have a blackberry so I can't do updates, but I hope to take some pics. I've heard from store employees that Palin will be giving a little speech (2 mins like at other places) and then will start signing books. I think Hal will be there too. Ya'll enjoy the night. It's going to be friggin' cold tomorrow morning. It may snow. Ha! Oh, man, the Arctic Fox brought snow with her. Update later!

lmg,  December 3, 2009 5:56 PM

I wonder if there will be one, final unscheduled stop when the "Rogue" tour reaches Alaska. Maybe in an airplane hanger at an AFB.

My fav line is the reference to her "wicked sense of humor".  I think that is shared here by many at C4P ;)

Just checking in... off to the theater to see Glenn Beck's Christmas sweater tonight.  Be back after 10p!

Talk about taking our country back!!!

PatrickinOH....itsy bitsy stars... are on O'Barney's thong...
itsy bitsy stars...well.. you know...why...

wisetrog,  December 3, 2009 6:14 PM

Pardon my ignorance but is the Brigadier General a high ranking position? Is this "endorsement" worth something or are we milking it too much?

PatrickinOH,  December 3, 2009 6:16 PM

I would like that Beehive I am sure you make an out-of-this world grilled cheese

Kjanlady,  December 3, 2009 6:17 PM

Great message of support from an obviously intelligent man.  I was surprised that he did not mention her dedication to the military but maybe he wanted to make it clear that he supported her for her leadershp abilities and not as a military cheerleader.

I know that you guys probably don't get excited by a prediction of snow tomorrow.  But this is South Louisiana and I only remember seeing snow here twice in my life.  It won't last long on the ground but it will be fun to see it fall.  I guess that the liberal's global warming skipped S. Louisiana this year.  I guess that we will have to see icebergs in the Gulf for them to acknowledge the lie.  Wonder why the Chief Propaganda Minister of this lie cancelled his $1200 handshake event in Copenhagen?  Afraid he might have to explain his years of lying ?  He should be in jail.

PatrickinOH,  December 3, 2009 6:19 PM

Mia they should send you down to Gitmo I think you would be very skilled at getting vital information from the prisoners there, after you are through with them they will be asking to be waterboarded

juju,  December 3, 2009 6:19 PM

Yes...there is a new calendar.  You might want to check Amazon.  I don't know if they are available there or not, but I did see them someplace.

PatrickinOH,  December 3, 2009 6:19 PM

Beehive,  December 3, 2009 6:20 PM

Awww. Thanks PatrickinOH. Mia just doesn't appreciate the finer things of life.  ;) heehee

Beehive,  December 3, 2009 6:22 PM

Mia, I'm watching you. Always watching.

juju,  December 3, 2009 6:22 PM

He might be someone she would want to have on a panel or on a program with her.  His opinion of her is important because he is a "leader" and we can all tell
others to check out what this guy has to say about her.  Also, in various programs she might have when she gives speeches, etc. she might be able to use some of the comments he has made.

Brian72,  December 3, 2009 6:23 PM

One star General Officer. Yes, it is pretty high ranking.

CruelaDev,  December 3, 2009 6:23 PM

Thanks JuJu...you just made the day of a bunch of old men!

Mia,  December 3, 2009 6:26 PM

WHAAAAAAAAAAT???????

PatrickinOH,  December 3, 2009 6:26 PM

especially since all general officer rank promotions require the approval of congress

I served in Vietnam and appreciate a retired military person standing up for Sarah. I also think she is a great person and would make a great president.

IIRC, McCain had 1 or 2 in Iraq last year. Not lawyers.

A,  December 3, 2009 6:31 PM

Beau Biden was in Iraq. Nat. Guard?

Recovering Democrat,  December 3, 2009 6:32 PM

Hey everyone, great find on this General's endorsement. I attended Palin's speech last night, and it was so clear that this woman feels incredibly comfortable in the presence of generals, military heros and even ROTC cadets. She helped present a half dozen special bronze eagles to members of the Greatest Generation, including two generals.

Oh, and speaking of her speech, sorry I wasn't able to tweet the event or do a write-up yet. I don't have a blackberry, I'm rather technologically challenged anyway. I drove back to Kansas today and plan to try to compose my thoughts on the speech over the next two days.

I thought it was a stirring speech ... And one thought came to mind. Sarah knows war up close and personal with her son serving in combat. Furthermore, I think it's safe to say she has her "war wounds" from the campaign last year. As the stories of these heroes were told, Sarah could proudly stand with them, a wounded warrior who nevertheless refuses to let her wounds prevent her from fighting.

Even though Sarah's wounds are wounds to her reputation, in my opinion, she is like a young airborne paratrooper who was wounded in France in WWI, and told by his leaders he could not return to battle. He therefore went AWOL, and signed up with the British paratroopers, eager to win victory over the enemy with whatever Army would have him.

You can't keep some people out of the fight! Sarah is one of 'em.

See a thread with a lot of comments for tweets on the speech.

PatrickinOH,  December 3, 2009 6:49 PM

Mia forgive me for being ignorant but do you and Beehive live near each other?  Have you ever had her cooking? and I am more inclined to believe Beehive since she wasn't the one who just scarred me for life with horrible images

All General ranks are high but this is the lowest.  Now indididuals leave the military for different reasons.  The higher up in the General Ranks you get the more political it is.  Some just don't like playing the politics.  He would have very 1st hand knowledge of Afghanistan because of his previous position.  Also he wrote books.  This is telling me there were things in the military he wanted to get off of his chest but knew he had to retire to accomplish it.  Age-wise he retired relatively young for a BG.

One star = Brigadier General
Two star = Lieutenant General
Three star = Major General
Four star  = (full) General

PatrickinOH,  December 3, 2009 7:04 PM

Brian72, I said this a while back but that is what happened to my friend's dad a small argument with the Secretary of the Air Force he was forced into retirement, before then he was on his way to becoming a three-star
btw two star=Major General, Three Star=Lieutenant General
