CK MacLeod: The Palin Equation
From CK MacLeod at Hot Air:
The manner in which the underestimation, indeed the compulsive derision of Sarah Palin enhances the effect of her successes has been clear to non-Alaskan conservatives at least since her all-eyes-upon-her performance at the Republican National Convention of 2008. The comparison of Palin to Reagan is also familiar on the right. In Fish’s review, it comes across as wholly complimentary on the surface, because it’s explicitly cautionary for liberals, but it may betray Fish’s own partisan bias, since to him as for many liberal historians, Reagan and Reaganism were more symbol than substance, the deceptive offer of a pleasant dream that obscured a deeply flawed reality.
Even if the comparison can be seen in different ways, few Palin supporters will rush to disavow it. Most will prefer to bank it. As for Palin herself, she has directly aligned herself with Reagan, as a fervent admirer and as a would-be heir to his political legacy. When recent interviews have turned to economics, she speaks as a true believer in Reaganomics in statements that could be boiled down to “I’m favor what worked in the ’80s” – her main innovation being her emphasis on energy independence, a topic which in an odd historical turn had dominated American politics in the ’70s, but had all but disappeared by the time Reagan was inaugurated. When questioned in relation to national security, she is fond of quoting Reagan directly, deploying a statement of firm resolve that Reagan first proposed as an alternative to Détente, in discussion with his future National Security Adviser: “How about this? We win, they lose.”
WWTL captures the difference between Reagan and virtually the entirety of the foreign policy establishment of his day. For Palin, it underlines the contrast between her and our current president, a man who seems as put off by the word “victory” as Richard Nixon was by the word “love,” but its larger purpose is to associate what she offers – an indomitable and indefatigable American character in support of conservative orthodoxy – with what for large numbers of Americans stands as the last heroic period in our history.

Can someone explain how to do the avatar thing. I am not very computer smart.

Palin is like an animal staking out its territory by continually invoking Reagan. Nobody who pays attention to what she says and writes will ever say or think that Palin is not a conservative. Why this is important is that by establishing this concept as a base of her support, Sarah Palin will never have to look in the rearview mirror and always be able to look ahead to land moderates and independents. Palin is a brilliant strategist in understanding that she will eventually be defined and that it is better to take control and define yourself rather than to let others or the MSM define you incorrectly.
Nice article. She's NOT Reagan. I like that a lot. She is singular. He was the man for that time. She is the woman for right now!
She defines herself by actions. One can be defined by others only by doing nothing.

Was there such a thing as Depends in the 80's?
History:
One person's amicable dunce, is another person's, one of the country's greatest Presidents.
One preson's irrelevant quitter, may be, another person's, one of the country's greatest Presidents.
yes :)

We should never be surprised with the brilliance of Sarah Palin.

Thank you, Emily!
I guess trends really do come back around!:)
I gave Governor Palin your message last night!:)
You did!?!?!?!?!?! What did she say!?!?!?!?!?! (Geez I'm about as bad as the girls with the Jonas Brothers posters.)
This is the point I made several months ago when Sarah decided to "go into the wilderness". By having a proven Reagan blueprint to duplicate and 21st c technology to disseminate her message quicker and to more people over the 4 corners of America Sarah will be able to take a less bumpier path to the 2010 midterms and to the primaries.

NEW FACEBOOK POST!!!
It is in regards to her Washington Post Op-ed, but she write the following at the end:
"Steven Hayward has a great article in The Weekly Standard on the Climategate scandal. Be sure to check it out.
The response to my op-ed by global warming alarmists has been interesting. Former Vice President Al Gore has called me a “denier” and informs us that climate change is “a principle in physics. It’s like gravity. It exists.”
Perhaps he’s right. Climate change is like gravity – a naturally occurring phenomenon that existed long before, and will exist long after, any governmental attempts to affect it.
However, he’s wrong in calling me a “denier.” As I noted in my op-ed above and in my original Facebook post on Climategate, I have never denied the existence of climate change. I just don’t think we can primarily blame man’s activities for the earth’s cyclical weather changes.
Former Vice President Gore also claimed today that the scientific community has worked on this issue for 20 years, and therefore it is settled science. Well, the Climategate scandal involves the leading experts in this field, and if Climategate is proof of the larger method used over the past 20 years, then Vice President Gore seriously needs to consider that their findings are flawed, falsified, or inconclusive.
Vice President Gore, the Climategate scandal exists. You might even say that it’s sort of like gravity: you simply can’t deny it.
- Sarah Palin"
Reminds me of the saying, "Actions speak louder than words." Defining oneself by selfless actions proves to people that you can be trusted.
write=writes.
Sarah has a post up on Facebook now in her response to Al Gore about 'gravity existing'.
Booyah! She nailed it. Climate change has been around for 4.6 billion years and I don't think it will go away anytime soon.

no link, sorry.
Re: the last line of her response
Game, set, & match. Sarah wins.
I'm sorry, I called you a young girl, when I spoke to her! Sorry, sorry, sorry! You have to understand anyone under 20 is a young person to me.:) But I should have said young woman!
I said: There is a young girl at C4P, named Emily, that says hi, and she loves you, and is running for office someday because of you!
Governor Palin said: Oh, that is so nice to hear! Thank you!
You can read alot of what happened to the C4Pers at the Colorado Springs book signing, in the Copenhagen post from last night. It has been bumped up to today.
It was a boaload of fun!:)
Timing is everything in life. As usual, Sarah's timing is impeccable. Sarah is more than a rogue-she is a political revolutionary; she is reinventing how politics will be contested in the 21st century.
boatload, not boaload!:) LOL!
He is my Rep. and this is AWESOME news!!!
Wait a minute...is that the book signing that some liberal wrote about that some crazy lady kissed Todd and THEN got a black eye because of it from Gov. Palin???
Wouldn't be by any chance...nah
;)
OH.MY.GOSH.
That is a milestone in this girl's life.
Holy. Toledo!
That is about as close as I can to speak to her. Oh. My. Gosh.
Notice that she signs her Facebook posts Sarah Palin and not Governor Sarah Palin.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I <3 you!!!! :) x 2012
Good for you Hefmier! Now I just wish that Granholm, Levin, etc would do that sooner...
hey....good for you!!! The rats are leaving the ship...Dont forget Code Red on Dec 15 in Washington DC...Laura Ingraham is heading it....
That was nice of you Nancy. Have a feeling that's just the type of message she likes to hear the most.
And women's head-wear.

America needs to be saved from the fiendish plans of the liberals, RINOs and enemies worldwide. All are urging Governor Palin to complete the mission for which God has planned her. I cannot even understand how great a burden this country is now placing on her, and how she follows such a clear path of destiny without fault.
There will be a time that we must follow her example; will we be able to follow?
Yes! That is the one!
But Governor Palin is so awesome, while Cruela was mauling Todd, she kept focused on me the whole time I was talking to her, and as soon as I finished speaking! She decked Cruela! You have never seen a C4Per so happy! Cruela was thanking Governor Palin profusely for giving her a black eye!
Don't tell Cruela I said this, but there was lipstick all over Todd's face and neck, from Cruela kissing him! I know Cruela acts like she hates girly stuff, but for Todd she was wearing bright, bright red lipstick.
God I love her shrewd wit.
Emily,
You are very welcome!:)
She had a big smile on her face when I told her your message!:)
Your right, to much for me to absorb.
Did he wash it off? Poor, poor, poor Todd. I am not responisible for Cruela's behavior. For that matter, anyone's behavior here. But remember: one toe out of line and I will know about it. Little Sister is Watching You...;)
That gave me fuzzy feelings :)
I read on another blog that when things really went down hill for Cruela with Todd and Sarah was when she asked Todd to take off his shirt so she could see what Sarah was talking about in her book. That is when Sarah said "enough is enough" and decked Cruela. Did you happen to see that Nancy???
Right on with the head-wear. I got my hat today. It is so cute. I love it. The one from QVC just like the one Sarah had on.
juju,
Yeah, Cruela went for it, and when she "told" Todd, to take his shirt off, you see with Cruela it is telling, not asking. Anyway, when she told Todd to take it off, my virgin ears were burning let me tell you! Governor Palin just stood up and gave her a right to the eye. Unfortunately, I could not see if she was wearing her wedding ring, because I gave her hand a quick peek as it went whizzing past me, on the way to connecting with Cruela's eye, but alas, it was the wrong hand!
And even after she used that hand to pop Cruela, still finished signing 2,000 books!:)
This is why we love her!
Cruela, do not deny this comment. We all know what happened.
In a comment a coupla days ago. She's incomparable, as are the times. New rules, new equipment, she's the first player to take full advantage of both. That's why it irks me when she's compared to any that have gone before. When the she oughtas come out. It's all intuitive, and intuition is never wrong. Like Jake and Ellwood, she's on a mission from God. Nobody's gonna catch her.
Hi guy's and gal's. Been watchin this site 4 a year. Just wanted to say you guys do great work here and the comments are the bomb. Nancy, you and the rest of the girls find a way to get your hands on Todd so I can have SP.
QVC huh? You just saved me a lot of time and trouble juju. I've got to get 6 so far and counting for Christmas (geez).
Everyone at C4P is doing a great job. Thanks! This is definitely the "go to place" for what's going on. Does anyone know what Sarah has planned after her book tour?
