CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Finds a 9-Point Net Favorability Swing for Governor Palin (Updated with New Obama Gallup Numbers)

CNN reports that the latest CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll shows that "Sarah Palin has erased her drop in the polls that followed her resignation as Alaska governor....[and] her popularity is now back to the same level it was before she stepped down."

The new numbers represent a nine-point swing in net favorability from polls conducted by CNN/Opinion Research Corporation in late July/early August and mid-October.

The poll is consistent with the last Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll that showed Governor Palin's poll numbers recovering to around where they were prior to her resignation. CNN/Opinion Research Corporation also shows Governor Palin's favorable rating among Republicans at an impressive 80%.

Keep in mind too that CNN's poll is of all adults and not registered or likely voters. Though CNN/Opinion Research Corporation didn't release the crosstabs, I suspect that the percentage of the sample comprised of Republicans in this poll is around 25-26%, a percentage that is likely significantly lower than the percentage of the electorate that is comprised of Republicans in reality.

Update: President Obama's approval/disapproval rating in today's Gallup daily tracking poll of adults (still not likely or registered voters) is 47/46, his worst showing to date. More Americans now diapprove of Obama's performance than approve of his performance according to the pollster.com average of all recent Obama approval rating polls.

her book tour is giving her a bounce, and i think CNN wants an interview.

Recovering Democrat,  December 7, 2009 1:33 PM

Emerging meme: Sarah on the rise, Barack on the decline.

Will the media Hide the Decline? hee hee

I think James Carville said a mouthful to John King (and Carville sounded as usual like he had a mouthful of something)... He said he would love to see Sarah run because she's compelling and interesting (and beautiful).

In the end, the commentators, the pundits, and the chattering class LOVE a good story.

Barack was the good story of 2007-2008 ... Sarah is the fresh story emerging for 2010-2012. And I predict her media treatment will start turning around as they realize that this woman has withstood hurricane force gails and is not only standing -- she's leading a movement.

Izzy,  December 7, 2009 1:34 PM

You betcha...from CNN, add another 3-5 points to their numbers.  Sarah is shining brighter and brighter each day.  God is good...life is good.

Dan C,  December 7, 2009 1:38 PM

I am sorry I have missed so much the past 2 weeks. I suffered a very bad neck injury and am just now getting to the point where I can get up and move around and be at the computer again. It really seems the book tour, her facebook stuff, tweets, etc is having a good impact. If left wing CNN has her that high, you know she is probly alot better.

The book tour and excellent interviews helped turn it around. I hope she'll write a new book on policy next, that will help even more. Sarah Palin has the wind on her back!

Whitney,  December 7, 2009 1:56 PM

I wonder if releasing this poll is their attempt to improve their poor ratings:

new joke for Sarah (you know, the one where in the hotel she said "Dang it, I just thought of the best joke"

Sarah to the Gridiron Club:

"I know you guys and gals would LOVE to know what's in my future.

Well, I'm going to let you know, right here, right now.

Book sales are good, and Todd and I REALLY like his being home every night.

So I've decided to just ride the Going Rogue bus off into the sunset.

Since we are talking about polls, has anyone brought this up:
Tea Party Tops GOP on Three-Way Generic Ballot

I think its fascinating. I'm not big on third party, but I consider Sarah the fusion of the (conservative) Republicans and Tea Partiers so its all good...

riley4palin,  December 7, 2009 2:20 PM

She keeps going up in the polls and Obama keeps going down....

Governor Palin:  President Obama, would you like to have one of my Sarah Palin Castro Hats?  I am thinking about offering them sometime down the road on the book tour or on Facebook to ordinary Americans who love our country and love freedom.

Obama:  Uh, no thanks.  Then people would think I remind them of Castro or something.

Governor Palin:  Uh, huh.

Whitney,  December 7, 2009 2:21 PM

Good point! Sarah has the support of the tea partiers. If she runsand has the support of many Republicans and nearly all of the tea partiers, then this bodes very well for her.

MarkRNY,  December 7, 2009 2:50 PM

At this point, I think it's more important that she's at #1 on Yahoo's most e-mailed photos list again today--and I'm not kidding! It shows that people are fascinated with her and that the book tour's been a TRIUMPH. That's a huge head start for her when it matters. Her cred as a candidate can't be denied now except by obvious morons or people who have an axe to grind/Sarah Derangement Syndrome, etc. I won't be paying much attention to her polls after the tour's over.

Now O's numbers are a different story! When he goes down, all the people who supported him and attacked her go down with him. It's like a law of physics. They go down, she goes up.

She's going to keep playing them like a violin. I wouldn't trade the place she's in for anybody's. She's a green hatted virtuoso.

PatrickinOH,  December 7, 2009 2:52 PM

almost 3PM, Rush hasn't said anything about the Gridiron dinner, don't think hes going to get to it, talked about Afghanistan, Climategate, Harry Reid comparing the people who are opposing healthcare takeover to people who were against civil rights act (can't wait till he is defeated next year) He probably didn't think it was terribly important, what I mean is that the Gridiron dinner was great and she knocked it out of the park, as we knew she would, but it pales in comparison to these other issues, I am sure Sarah feels the same way

hrh,  December 7, 2009 2:54 PM

Fred's a Repub first, and is not convinced Sarah's running or can win, but he's certainly remaining supportive of her in case she does run.

His lists of 2012 candidates never have her. He's just at big at promoting Romney and Yawnplenty, et al ...

PatrickinOH,  December 7, 2009 2:55 PM

I remember reading an article about him in the WaPa by Chris Cilliza I think, Malek said he was loyal to a fault which explains why he was with Nixon, not excusing his behavior btw, just pointing out what I read

techno,  December 7, 2009 2:56 PM

Whitney, that is an excellent question. Let me answer it in 3 ways:

1) Better F/UF for Sarah Palin means that she currently has the big MO (momentum) and if you have watched TV sports you know that is one of the keys to success and winning the game. Seldom do teams without momentum win anything.

2) Political observers now wonder whether Sarah will be able to capitalize on her current momentum (from the Going Rogue tour and Huck's 'clemency' problem) and build on it. Does Palin have a killer instinct to bury her current perceived opponents or will she settle back and not be able to sustain the momentum?

3) For those undecided or supporting Palin presently, again her problem is LEGITIMACY; but having said that it will increasingly become apparent to these folks that Palin is not going away and with Palin being a huge factor in orchestrating a huge GOP congressional win in the 2010 midterms (my abiding prediction) that will eventually bring these folks around; but Whitney it all begins with Palin have better F/UF poll numbers.

"If we build it, they will come." (Fields of Dreams)

PatrickinOH,  December 7, 2009 2:59 PM

Malek was one of the people Sarah called before she announced her resignation

techno,  December 7, 2009 3:01 PM

It's pretty difficult to have one's F/UF at 46/46 and about 50/50 with independent voters and say one is tanking.

MarkRNY,  December 7, 2009 3:05 PM

He also can't show that he's completely in the tank for her. It doesn't do either of them any good. Greta's the show to watch I think!

PatrickinOH,  December 7, 2009 3:05 PM

Your right especially Andrea Mitchell, if she said the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, I wouldn't believe her

PEC,  December 7, 2009 3:07 PM

Sarah needed this folks.  Let us be real.  This was a rough year for her in a lot of ways.  She had everything thrown at her to include the kitchen sink.  She needed to get back on solid ground and that is what she did.
As far as more substance and policy.  She has options open for her.  A.  Write a second book.  She could almost do it from her facebook postings.  B.  Speaking circuit.  She has them scheduled next year.  Apparantly everything from talking to loggers to bowling people.  c.  If she decides to run.  Campaign and win the debates or hold her own. Campaigning includes talking to local media. She could do all the above.  She only has to do the last one.

PEC,  December 7, 2009 3:08 PM

The pictures from Fairfax were out of this world.  I have heard people say she looks better in person but honetly I don't think it is possible.

MarkRNY,  December 7, 2009 3:13 PM

Yup. She's a doll.

PEC,  December 7, 2009 3:13 PM

I was impressed that Greta went to Fairfax the other day.  Sarah allowed Greta to take personal pictures and some video.  It is obvious Greta likes the guv (on a personal level) but scratches her head and is trying to figure out what Sarah is doing.  Greta has been around for a while and knows the inside game.  Sarah has done so many things that should have finished Sarah off and then Greta looks and there Sarah is still standing.  Greta is left with "how is she doing this?"

PatrickinOH,  December 7, 2009 3:17 PM

They actually have quite a bit in common, for instance they both were basketball players in high school, I am not sure if Greta played college bball but I am pretty sure she did for Wisconsin

Bill in Baltimore,  December 7, 2009 3:17 PM

Bill in Baltimore,  December 7, 2009 3:19 PM

How is it that we understand why Sarah is still standing but Greta does not ?

PatrickinOH,  December 7, 2009 3:21 PM

ISn't Greta actually a liberal thats what BOR said in his book Culture Warrior

PEC,  December 7, 2009 3:34 PM

I am not knocking Greta.  Outside of Sarah resigning I have never heard Greta say an ill word about Sarah.  As I stated Greta is In the beltway.  She has seen how politics are played. Greta was/is looking at the normal playbook and saying Sarah is finished.  I don't think Greta wants her to go away (you can tell she really likes her) but Greta looked at conventional wisdom.  Can't blame Greta.  Look she has supposed experts Newt, Karl and Dick Morris all telling Greta Sarah is finished.  By normal playbooks yes Sarah would be.  I think Greta is firmly on borad and barring a Hillary run will stay on-board.  In fact I not sure Sarah doesn't fascinate Greta more than Hillary.  I think Greta now knows Sarah is still standing.  Look at Greta's coverage the last few weeks.

PEC,  December 7, 2009 3:37 PM

PEC,  December 7, 2009 3:43 PM

HE couldn't carry PA.  Of course somebody else in the debates to help sharpen Sarah's skills.

PatrickinOH,  December 7, 2009 3:43 PM

Her husband John Coale supported the McCain/Palin ticket, I can understand Greta relying on the conventional wisdom, only Sarah could have pulled off resigning from the governorship early in her term, nobody else could have done it they would be finished, well maybe T-Paw will resign too, he seems to try to copy what Sarah does

Andrew,  December 7, 2009 3:43 PM

OT: Don't forget, David Plouffe is using Governor Palin to push Democrats out to buy his book tomorrow to beat her in "one day sales."

If you have some extra cash, think about going out and buying the Governor's book.  If you don't need the book, think about donating it to your local library, hospitals, etc--think of it as a way of spreading the Governor's word.

narciso,  December 7, 2009 3:44 PM

Sarah felt more comfortable with Greta of all the interview's , without the useless dreck, of Levi and Co. It's idealogical for Greta, it's more of a gut thing, but she really gave a more balanced portrait during the campaign

Firelight,  December 7, 2009 3:49 PM

I think that is a ploy.  Fred M is a very, very insider in DC.  If he admitted that she might run and could win it might skew Sarah's "outsider" stance.  It is better for him to play the supportive observer role.

PEC,  December 7, 2009 3:50 PM

Another show of how out of the box Sarah is and how she confuses everybody was the book tour in Iowa.  Everybody was thinking she was campaigning like everybody else and would hob knob with the big political leaders.  Instead what did she do?  Signed books.  And the people whose books she signed and would be at the caucuses loved her.  The Iowa Republicans are left totally confused.  She didn't do it their way but it worked with the citizenry.

jimr3,  December 7, 2009 3:51 PM

KeeleyH,  December 7, 2009 3:52 PM

Well, they could have a headline that says "Palin Still a Polarizing Figure", so for them to say she's bouncing back is very positive for CNN.

PatrickinOH,  December 7, 2009 3:55 PM

I don't like to continue the topic of Levi, but I have heard nothing from him, he was claiming that at the end of November he would be going to court for custody rights of Tripp, nothing has happened, I didn't hear too much about his playgirl shoot (thank God) however Sarah did have a comment about the pics: http://citizenpalin4president.blogspot.com/2009/12/sarah-palin-comments-on-levi-johnston.html, anyway he seems to be disappearing from the scene and that is a good thing, but I am sure he and his "pals" are currently thinking of another way to extend his 15 minutes

MarkRNY,  December 7, 2009 3:56 PM

That IS great news! Now the focus should be on her accomplishments and judgement. Good timing.

Firelight,  December 7, 2009 3:57 PM

Greta is a feminist.  She readily admits that her parents and a sibling are/were Republicans.  I do think she is actually more libertarian than even she realizes.  She is an attorney as well.  Feminists and attorneys always seem to assume they should be democrats but they don't sometimes really dissect their views to see where they fit in best.  She is definitely a fiscal conservative.

PEC,  December 7, 2009 4:03 PM

I thought old Levi was going to court or so he claimed.  Of course the twerp claims a lot.  Hopefully he did and even with custody he got what I talked about.  Levi can't talk about Palin family and Bristol can't talk about Johnston family publically.  Basically this shuts the twerp down.  Without Sarah nobody is interested.

AKReport,  December 7, 2009 4:05 PM

Firelight,  December 7, 2009 4:06 PM

He got majorly (sp?) snubbed at a Hollywood event right after Sarah went on Oprah.  Sarah looked gracious.  He looks like a dork.  I also think some in the MSM are starting to see the damage he is doing to himself, his child and Bristol instead of Sarah and have sympathy.  He is every parents nightmare for their daughter.

As for the Playgirl shoot, he "weenied out", lol.  He decided at the last minute to not do full frontal nudity.  Don't know why, it would also his paycheck.

And going to court, I say do it.  A judge would put a gag order on him, his family and the Palin's regarding saying negative or threatening things about each other.  Happens all the time in custody cases.  The Palins would have no problem with that but could the Johnston's survive???  Who would want to talk to them if they can't speak about Sarah?

Bill in Baltimore,  December 7, 2009 4:06 PM

Greta's husband, John Coale, hearts Sarah too but he's no one a conservative would work with.

Levi should go back to school and try and get into a community college with what little moiney he made.  And droip those thugs of body guards.  Bristol is very mature in all of this by focusing on her education.

Firelight,  December 7, 2009 4:15 PM

Nah, I think Greta completely gets it and I wouldn't be surprised if John was "in the loop' on her resignation.  I think that Greta strives to be Fair and Balanced and not look too in the tank for Sarah.  However, I think she refuses to say anything negative so she is stuck with "What???".

You could tell the level of comfortableness between them in the interview.  Sarah was less guarded, more strongly opinionated (because she felt comfortable with who would be editing) and was dressed casually, less makeup etc....  She knew she didn't need to impress Greta or strive for Greta to take her seriously.  Greta believes in Sarah.

Recovering Democrat,  December 7, 2009 4:16 PM

Actually, it is possible. And that means when you meet her you're just blown away. Her "three dimensional" beauty supercedes the one-dimensional beauty of the photographs.

This guy is another major Beta in the Obama circle of Doom.

Perhaps the book isn't selling at any major bookstores because of location, location, location.  They really should do David a favor and move it out of the Self Help section (where they store all of David Frum's novels) and closer to the Food Network's Iron Chef America Holiday Edition.

That way perhaps Plouffe and Food Network's Alton Brown can swap recipes for Christmas Cookies.

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/business/20091121_550_to_lose_jobs_as_Valero_Energy_shuts_Delaware_refinery.html

"<span>Oil-refinery workers on the Delaware River yesterday received their second big blow in six weeks, when Valero Energy Corp. said it would close its operation in Delaware City, Del., casting 550 out of work.</span>
<span>

When workers heard the news, "it was like a time bomb went off," said Matt Edler, who has worked for 10 years at the refinery that rises out of the lowlands near the Delaware River in southern New Castle County.
"My grandfather worked there, my father, and I worked there," said Edler, who yesterday afternoon joined other shocked refinery workers at Red Lion Inn in Bear, Del. "We were all doing the best we could to keep the place alive. That's our life."
The loss of Valero as a provider of high-wage industrial jobs adds to the economic woes in Delaware caused by the recent loss of 2,000 auto-industry jobs at General Motors and Chrysler plants."

.... or is that jobs lost Joe?  Joe?  Joe?

"<span>Valero Energy last month announced the permanent closing of its Delaware City refinery, the most obvious impacts were the loss of hundreds of jobs and possibly higher prices for gas and heating oil.</span>
<span>

In the long term, the effects are expected to be much broader.

Colonial School District and New Castle County could lose hundreds of thousands in annual tax dollars. Community groups and other civic organizations will lose what residents call a "good neighbor."
And the elimination of 550 full-time jobs and a huge force of contractors could cause businesses to slump or close and property values to drop.
"The refinery has really been a big economic engine for taxes, not to mention salaries and jobs," said Al Denio, a member of the refinery's Citizens Advisory Committee. He fears Delaware City will become a "ghost town at this point because there's very little jobs there other than Valero."
While <span>environmentalists are happy</span> that the region will lose a major source of pollution, the state estimates the overall economic impact from the closing at $882 million."

Recovering Democrat,  December 7, 2009 4:19 PM

Not only that, but she was an hour and a half late, obstensibly because she was visiting Walter Reed, but she blamed it on weather.

Sarah is giving Iowa the "hard to get" treatment ... And we know how that works in real life: It makes you irresistible.

Recovering Democrat,  December 7, 2009 4:24 PM

Well, at the book signing in Springfield, I asked Sarah's Aunt Katie how they enjoyed Thanksgiving Dinner. She said, I'm quoting: "It was great, especially since you-know-who wasn't there."

LOL

This whole family is wonderful. So open and honest and refreshing. Sarah must get her spunk genetically.

Bingo.  If he can't talk about Sarah he couldn't get a job as a bus boy.  All indications are he has torched all the bridges back in Wasilla.  What the Palins need to do is keep denying him access to Tripp.  He is finished then.

Izzy,  December 7, 2009 4:32 PM

A read on the Star Tribune website that Gov. Palin will be paid for the fundraising event after the book signing. This is good news.  The Event organizer is charging $5000 for a ticket and is expecting over 80 people to show up. So if Palin is paid even $100K, the organizer can still make over $300K. Good for her. She has a big family to feed. The men can get paid , why can't the women.

And Palin will meet BACKMANN TONIGHT!

Very nice to see better numbers.  Even if it's way too early and they don't really mean anything, it's always good to be higher than lower.

Right now her #s among Democrats are meaningless, as are her #s among liberals and moderates.  Even among independents.  The most important groups are conservatives, evangelicals and Republicans.  Stay high among those three and she'll be just fine.

One thing she needs to do is to stay away from the whole birtch certificate issue.  From her answer I doubt she's realy studied it or anything  It sounds like she just answered the way she did because she knew it was important to a certain group and din't want to upset them.  That said, it is a fringe issue, and it's not a serious or winning one.  If she really takes it up she'll just be seen as a fringe Ron Paul/Lyndon LaRouche type.  No one will take her seriously.  Just like no one would have taken Obama seriously if he raised questions about Trig during the campaign.  If he had done that or said "it's a legitimate issue for voters to raise, and they should be asking about it" he and Michelle would sitting in their living room in Hyde Park right now instead of in the Lincoln Bedroom.

I'm not saying she needs to openly denounce them a la the John Birch Society, but she can't be seen as aligning herself with them.  The birther movement will never a single election for her, and it will lose quite a few.  The next time she's asked about it she needsto say something to the effect of "It's not something I consider a major issue.  Voters need to be focused on issues like jobs, the deficit, the national debt, runaway spending, balanced budgets, and national security.  Those are things that really matter for our future.  Those are what I care about and if you believe in the things I do you should care about them, too."

Hopefully she doesn't go any further down the road with them.

Kentucky Colonel,  December 7, 2009 4:57 PM

Andrew, that hat at QVC isn't the right one.  Amazon has the one she was wearing.  Look closely at one of the photos of Sarah wearing it and you'll see the three buttons on the side toward the front.

not sure

Izzy,  December 7, 2009 4:59 PM

PEC,  December 7, 2009 4:59 PM

If she gets 20-25% of Dems that is really good.  If she is at 50 or higher with Indies and over 80% with Repubs she is in excellent shape.  All she needs to do is rally her supporters.

Money Maven,  December 7, 2009 5:00 PM

or Who is a communist?

Andrew,  December 7, 2009 5:01 PM

The amazon one has a horizontal stitching (Palin's doesn't), and the wrong type of brim (plus the buttons are too small.)  Also, if you look at a close up image of the hat, it has multi-colored specks in it.

The QVC hat is the correct hat.

JohnDoeAt30Below,  December 7, 2009 5:06 PM

MoneyMaven, others --

Rick Santorum, like Pawlenty and Mike Pence, are trying to position themselves as VP choices. Then if Palin or Romney win the nomination but lose to Obama, they would be the obvious choice for the Republican nod in '16.

Sarah has to run in '12 and, if nominated, she has to win. She can't sit on the sidelines in '12, people won't remember her in '16 - that's seven long years from now. She has to enter the primaries. If she wins a couple and then begins to falter and graciously bows out, she could theoretically regroup and run again in '16 but, like Obama, she has to seize her opportunities when presented, even if they come a little early. If she just passes on '12 to wait for '16, she could end up like Kit Bond, Lamar Alexander or Richard Lugar

JohnDoeAt30Below,  December 7, 2009 5:09 PM

Back on topic, bear in mind that polls typically lag behind the public a bit. Check these numbers in 30 days and they will look even better.

Sarah's job now is to hold on to all her Republican support while continuing to sway Independents. She doesn't need the hard core Dems and would probably alienate some of her backers if she chases them too hard.

PEC,  December 7, 2009 5:09 PM

I know it is great polling news but does Sarah really care?  I think she is having the time of her life.  Notice how much fun she is having.

Andrew,  December 7, 2009 5:10 PM

Take a look at this image.  Governor Palin's hat doesn't have the horizontal stitching that the Amazon hat has above the brim.  Plus, the buttons are larger and offset from the brim.  And the brim isn't as large as the Amazon hat either.  And you can see the stitching / multi-colored specs visible in the Governor's hat.

If you look at the QVC hat and zoom in, you can see the stitching matches, plus has multi-colored specs, large buttons offset from the short, rounded brim.  The QVC hat is the correct one.

TSM Admin,  December 7, 2009 5:11 PM

happymullah,  December 7, 2009 5:13 PM

Fred Malek is a loyal friend of Sarah. In Sarah's memoir there's a photo of him and Rick Perry on the campaign plane with Sarah and Piper last year.

Loyalty is a rare commodity especially in poliltics. His loyalty to Sarah is never in doubt because that was why HuffPost put out a hit piece on him about an incident when he was still a cadet.

He can walk Sarah safely throught minefields of DC when her POTUS campaign begins.
I think he's in touch with her on daily basis, giving her advice as well as warning of plots by the traitorous GOP elites. He is indispensable.

BTW On loyalty, Malek was the last guy to wave Nixon goodbye at the WH lawn.

VIVA SARAH !

AmeriCuda,  December 7, 2009 5:14 PM

It's the QVC hat. It's made by the San Diego Hat Company. I believe the green is from last years collection, so if you find one, get it.

militantfeather,  December 7, 2009 5:16 PM

I look at these things in terms of presidential elections as Hearts and Minds.

Hearts are Favs/Unfavs.

Minds are polls on Qualifications.

They are interdependent but not entirely so of course. People can be perceived as highly qualified, but not electable, and much more rarely, vice versa (Sarah's position).

Key points to keep in mind about Sarah and polls are:

1. The fact her Hearts are around 50% is simply incredible, given the media hate fest.

2. If she has Hearts it is easier to win their Minds (but that is her challenge), as there is a predisposition to look favourably on a candidate and their opinions.

3. As she wins Minds, Hearts will also improve as a result. Hearts also includes ability to do the job.

4. As she wins Hearts, Minds will also increase. And as Minds goes up, so do Hearts. It is a postive feedback loop, one ampliyfing the other, and that is where Sarah is currently, so expect to see improvements on both next few weeks. However after tour, the numbers will drop maybe a bit then too.

Where was Rahm Emmanuel when Governor Palin needed him most?

He really should have taken the time out of his busy schedule of Government Take Over of ah....everything and showed her some perfect ballet glides onto each stage before the book tour.

Lakerfanalways,  December 7, 2009 5:23 PM

Yeah I read her tweet about her stumbling on stage..wearing high heels at a book signing, I give her credit, I walk like a penguin when I have to wear high heels, I absolutely hate them, plus my feet hurt. Thank goodness she is OK..but I suggest to her that she wear comfortable shoes

section9,  December 7, 2009 5:23 PM

That cash will probably go into SarahPAC. That's the way this stuff works. It's probably a split local fundraiser between SarahPAC, the Bachmann Reelect, and the Minnesota GOP, still smarting from losing the Senate race to Franken. Palin's presence instantly juiced the numbers so that more local big dollar contributors would turn out to get face time with someone who could be President in four years.

In addition, local Minnesota conservative downticket people in Congressional and important State Legislative and State Senate races get face time with Palin to lobby for her presence in some of the more decisive seats where unemployment is persistent and the DFL is starting to show signs of losing its grip.

Trust me, the Palin Campaign has its eye on the "Dukakis Five" as the foundation of its strategy to take back the White House in 2012. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa form the Midwest Anchor to any Democratic hopes of keeping the White House (Oregon and Washington were the other two big states that Michael held in that race. New York, WVa, Mass, and DC don't count as battlegrounds). Without two of those three, Obama is going home.

riley4palin,  December 7, 2009 5:25 PM

Christmas?!!!  How dare she?!!   What's next?  Telling us she went to church on Christmas Eve and sang Christmas Carols?

Anonymous,  December 7, 2009 5:27 PM

Pawlenty won't be anyone's VP.  It'll be someone with extensive natl security exp and DC exp a la Cheney/Biden/Gore/HW Bush.  The nominee will either be Palin, Romney or Huckabee(although with the Clemmons issue Huckabee may have seen his hopes dashed) so it'll most likely be Palin or Romney.  Neither of them would go with another outsider with no natl security exp like Pawlenty or Pence or Santorum or whoever.  They'd have to go with a Cheney or Biden type.

Unfortunately there really aren't a lot of them left in the GOP.  McCain is one but he's too old.  Anyone associated with W is damaged goods.  Newt possibly although I think his time time has come and gone.  Forget Rubio.  He'll be too green.  Much like Palin was last yr, although he'd be a great choice to replace the VP in 2016 when she runs for reelection.

There's gotta be some grizzled veteran foreign policy/military type out there.

Recovering Democrat,  December 7, 2009 5:27 PM

militantfeather,  December 7, 2009 5:29 PM

"From her answer I doubt she's realy studied it or anything "

Quite the contrary.  Sarah knew exactly what she was doing. You answered the "why" yourself in your previous sentences.

Remember her first big challenge is against the Republican Establishment. She is on message and consistent.

riley4palin,  December 7, 2009 5:29 PM

Now, on the other hand, how many jobs has Sarah created or saved with her book and tour?  Think of it, the printing, shipping, book store sales of her book and many side items, hotel/motel stays, various public transportation, media coverage, meals, clothing sales, camping equipment sales - I could go on and on.  Of couse a lot of this due to folks, like some here, that traveled to her book signings, etc.

riley4palin,  December 7, 2009 5:34 PM

Now Patrick, that is a total secret.  The Obama Administration has enough on their hands with the ACORN illegal activity.  If the truth eventually gets out about all of the ILLEGAL contributions funneled through the Obama campaign (with David Plouffe at the helm and one guy with the initial GS), the American people might not trust the system and definitely question the credibility of Obama being a LEGIT winner and deserving of POTUS.

I was comparing how they had let opportunity pass them by.

What if Obama had decided to sit out '08, thinking that he was too inexperienced? The economy would have still tanked and Hillary might have gotten elected with, say, Evan Bayh or Bill Richardson as VP. That would have put Obama waiting until '16 and then fighting it out with the sitting VP for the Dem Pres nod.
