Dan Fagan: Governor Palin Did the Right Thing
Dan Fagan has managed to shock us again. Shock number one came at the beginning of August when the Alaska talk show host apologized for the manner in which he had repeatedly criticized Governor Palin. He wrote in the Anchorage Daily News:
For some reason I had convinced myself it was my job to run down and criticize others. It is one thing to analyze policy and issues. It is an entirely different thing to tear down someone's character with personal attacks.
I will tell you I am ashamed of the way I have conducted myself publicly in recent years and frankly I am embarrassed by it too.
Read that entire article here. It was enough to knock some off their chairs.
Well, hold on because shock number two came yesterday when, in the Alaska Standard, Fagan acknowledged that Governor Palin actually knew what she was doing when she resigned, as she is now free to effect change, fundraise, and resurrect the Republican Party--and there is no one else who can do so as effectively.
He wrote:
Palin’s book tour has led to a revival of her status as leader of the conservative movement.
A new Washington Post poll released Monday found Mrs. Palin outpacing party rivals for the affection of core Republican voters. At 18 percent, she was the single highest vote-getter among the party faithful as the "person who best reflects the core values of the Republican Party." She had three times the number of votes received by key rivals such as former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
[...]
Did she make the right decision in quitting? Will she end up better serving her country on the road campaigning for others instead of being tied down to the Alaska governor’s job? Does the Republican Party have a better chance of taking back the house and senate with Palin on the campaign trail? Could Sarah Palin end up saving our republic because she quit as governor? You betcha!
Read his entire article here.
Previous conversations along these lines have opened up a sea of debate as to Mr. Fagan's sincerity, as to whether he's truly seen the light. I refuse to sit in that seat of judgment. Instead, I'll focus on the words spoken by Governor Palin herself the day she announced her resignation:
My choice is to take a stand and effect change – not hit our heads against the wall and watch valuable state time and money, millions of your dollars, go down the drain in this new environment. Rather, we know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time, on another scale, and actually make a difference for our priorities – and so we will, for Alaskans and for Americans.
[...]
I do not want to disappoint anyone with my decision; all I can ask is that you TRUST me with this decision – but it’s no more “politics as usual”.
Governor Palin has our trust. She earned it a long time ago. We trust her instincts, her record, and her willingness to serve the people. Yesterday, Dan Fagan acknowledged that our trust has been well-placed.
It's amazing what kind of revelation one can receive from one rogue Alaskan.

It's going to take a lot more than a couple of articles for him to gain my trust.
Well... I think he now knows where his bread is buttered! Time to jump on board the Rogue bus Dan!
..actually that's a little despicable at this high time, but better late than never I guess...
Hopefully, he and many many others will start seeing the light, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but will watch what he does and says in the future.
My guess is that every single republican hopeful, whether at the local, state or federal level, is paying attention to Gov. Palin's book signing tour, seeing the large, enthusiastic crowds. They are probably trying to figure out a way to tap into that energy source. What candidate in their right mind wouldn't want her to show up and campaign for them in 2010, knowing what kind of crowds she can draw. Campaigns are to a large extent, psychological warfare. 0bama's big crowds dwarfed anything McCain could muster in 2008, until he selected Gov. Palin, her crowds matched or in many cases, exceeded most of 0bama's, except for his 100,000 plus crowds, and she wasn't even the Presidential candidate.
I very much share your sense of reservation, Adrienne. Here is Dan Fagan writing about Governor Palin just two weeks ago:
I<span> will not buy Sarah Palin’s new book because I believe the governor who quit to be a fundamentally dishonest person. Why support the work of someone you can’t trust?</span>
<span>
I have read some excerpts from the book and it is clearly a work of vengeance, revenge, and pure meanness. Palin comes across as the rotten on the inside, faultfinding, petty teenage girl we all hated in high school. If you’ve seen the movie “Heathers” or “Mean Girls” you know what I am talking about.
Palin, when writing Rogue, set herself on a course of smallness, triviality, quibbling, sophistry nothingness, and worthlessness. From the excerpts I’ve read, it is hard to draw any other conclusion than Sarah Palin is small in stature, character, and integrity.
Yes I do believe Sarah Palin has a dark soul. A soul obsessed with her image. A soul focused on hurting others. Sarah Palin’s book reveals her as someone unwilling, unable, incapable of living a life of forgiveness.</span>
Is it Sunday? Please tell me it's Sunday, 'cos there's something else I'd like to say.

Fagan looks like he's having a come-to-Jesus moment... literally.
"My sheep know my voice..."
He admitted that he hadn't been listening. Read his blog.
For those paying attention to what was happening at the time of Mrs. Palin's resignation, they would have noticed a storm brewing that she couldn't have fought effectively. With all the "quitter" talk... the critics have never answered how she was going to avoid personal bankruptcy had she stayed in office. She had a "perfect storm", a rock and a hard place. We call that "being taken out of the situation" in ministry terms. Any pastor or lay leader could tell you about it. When your in it, it's a nightmare... when you take the invitation to leave... the clouds break. You have freedom.
I was watching from Florida. I kept thinking was she going to choose "A" or "B"... she chose "C" and it was genius.
I was laying in bed sick sleeping when Mr. Johnson come to my bedside with the news of her resignation. Because I knew His voice... to me the decision was clear and right. I've talked to others who saw the samething. They also knew His voice. Fagan is just now coming to it.
Guys... who knew a year ago that our Sarah could go so far this fast?
Hmm, Dan's ratings must really be in the toilet these days...
His earlier scathing remarks about Sarah seem like projection . . . to me it appears that his "cutthroat tactics" are contributing to his downfall.
Tigers don't change their stripes. I suspect his two postive articles on Palin are motivated by some benefit he sees he will gain by them rather than a true change of heart.
Good catch Rich. Don't listen to this person. He is probably just trying to get her on his show to boost his ratings. Once she doesn't then he will be back to normal.
I will also add that this is nothing more than the ADN combining with Fagan to try to a. Say they do more than just bash Sarah. b. Both are trying to work an interview and show they are not all negative. Either case Private Citizen Sarah needs to ignore this fish warpper paper and fish smelling radio guy and don't boost their ratings.
They can only deny the obvious so long, one by one they will see the light. In the words of Johnny Cash "I can hear the train a comming " . It's gonna be painted Blue with the star os Alaska on it and a picture of Sarah on the side. LIBERALS BE AFRAID VERY AFRAID. That light that you see at the end of the tunnel is attached to the engine of that blue train and no one is reaching for the brake.
Fagan is scum and looks like scum. You can't change that look.
Youa re on to something there. The main point to me is, who gives a crap about this loser?
Sarah is a political supernova, and he is a Bic lighter that no one can see.
Screw him either way.
Newsflash Dan: Nobody cares what you think.
Along with his reputation.
Somebody in Alaska...PLEASE call 911! Dan Fagan is having a stroke!
The early attacks were not just some policy criticism snarkyness but something deeper, he has an ulterior motive for his jesus moment and I would trust him as far as I could throw him. On the other hand, (I hate that line) there's the addage...."Keep your friends close and your enemies closer"
By the way, he said he wont buy Sarah's book but has read it already. What gives there, since he's read it and detests Sarah why would he? Sounds petty to me to say it so he looses even more credibility if he had any to begn with.
I saw this late last night and thought "really". We'll see what time does with this. Either he'll be consistent in his regret OR he'll be like Obama and say whatever gets him what he wants in the moment throwing all principles aside.
Its either one or the other dude.
This is somewhat on topic, and related to me. Dan said this:
Did she make the right decision in quitting? Will she end up better serving her country on the road campaigning for others instead of being tied down to the Alaska governor’s job? Does the Republican Party have a better chance of taking back the house and senate with Palin on the campaign trail? Could Sarah Palin end up saving our republic because she quit as governor? Well, I have some really good news.
My 20 year, phony Blue Dog Democrat Congresscritter, John Tanner (D-TN 8th) announced last night that he will not be seeking re election to "represent" my district.
He has seen the writing on the wall, and he has cut and run, which is just fine by me. I would have preferred to whip his butt head to head with a good candidate in 2010, but this will work too.
Now we have a Republican Primary with three candidates, and one of the State Senators that was going to run for Governor as a Democrat switched to run for the open seat last night, about an hour after Tanner's announcement.
Once the Republican Primary is settled and we have a candidate, we MUST get Sarah Palin to come to my district to help us fight off the Democrat Machine in this area. This is a conservative district, neighboring Marsha Blackburn's district, that has been in Democrat hands for 20 years. The seat is now open for 2010, and we must take it away from Pelosi. NOW is our chance to get someone in this district who really represents what the people here believe in.
Tanner won re-election in 2008 unopposed, now he has decided to throw in the towel. We must seize the moment, nominate a good candidate in the primary to challenge the Democrat. Once that is done, Sarah Palin would supercharge this district to stand for common sense and the Constitution. Sarah, you are our only hope!
I am fired up this morning, we finally have a shot!
Adrienne
thanks as usual...
It is difficult to accept when a person changes directions like this, especially in politics, but agree we should not judge them... Trust but verify, like Reagan said is certainly in order... A wait and see approach... As Sarah says, let's see Walk The Walk and less talk the talk ever a period of time before making final judgements.
Miracles do happen in people... Let's see!
The Alaskan media jackals are going to fall into a burning ring of fire! It burns burns burns, the flames going higher! It burns burns burns, that ring of fire, the ring of fire.
Maybe Dan is angling for Cleavage Czar!
Great analogy. There are quite a few liberals that I like to envision hanging on to the cattle catcher at the front of Sarah's train for dear life. Also some snarky Rhino's and elitist political pundits. Of course, there are also many more liberals that I prefer to envision lying flattened like pancakes across the traks as the Palin express speeds to its final destination in January 2013.
Believe.
Off topic but I thought a good laugh might help, check this out if you want to see some liberal heads explode. lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc35H5D0TTU
It will take some consistancy on his part before I give a crap what he says. Wait and see, indeed. Until then, he has a lot of ill will to overcome.
...and besides, I like the matchup. :)
Maybe he just believes he will be in need of a job in the Palin Administration. Sarah has a message for you Dan.....................fat chance.
I sincerely hope that this sub-human has had a moment of enligfhtenment so that he may once again join the human race. Time will tell. However, I did not read any sincere apology for his unfounded lies and criticism to the one person who deserves an apology...Sarah. Then again, liberals and rhinos are incapable of both apologizing and sincerity.
A wolf sheds his coat...but... never his habits..
Maybe he is angling for Cleavage Czar.
Don't hold back, tell how you really feel! lol
I've got the inside track for that appointment, given my past record of defending boobs from scurrilous insults.
when is the Guv doing the Bob And mark show & eddie burke?
One thing about the residents in Alaska: they have seen the Sarah Palin movie before-how she vanquished a sitting Republican governor and a former Democratic Alaskan governor in one election cycle.
Brian72,
You were nominated for the Cleavage Czar position on Sunday. You are very worthy of the appointment, from my experience in reading your impassioned comments on this subject.
I would give you a good reference for the position of Cleavage Czar, based solely on your insightful statements regarding what constitutes good boobery and what is considered not good boobery.
I don't thnk that made sense.
Also, I feel as if my comments have deviated from what this thread was originally meant for.
My campaign slogan will be, "Respect the boobs, they are not Schmidt."
Rush is ripping last night's Obama speech to bloody shreds. Truly classic.
Why Sarah is so smart: allowing Rush and others to do the dirty work in the trenches and protect her from getting sacked while she has the freedom to see the entire field, has the time to make the right reads and then the talent to accurately throw the pass to open receiver.
Just go around us, people, juvenile conversation taking place here.
Brian72,
Let me ask you this question.
As Cleavage Czar, would your grading scale be: the grade of letter D, is the best grade, whereas, the letter A, is the lowest grade?
It would be very confusing for the boobs themselves.
If you would say: Schmidt is Grade A! HE would think, Cool! Finally I'm getting some recognition!
When in reality, from the Cleavage Czar's perspective, you are saying he is a Grade A Boob!
Thoughts?
Adrienne
"it's amazing what kind of revelation one can get from one rogue Alaskan"
You hit the nuclear button!... Revelation is occuring nation wide... Many still act as if they don't believe it but in there heart of hearts certainly feel it's effect...
It's always amazing to see us humans cling to our pride with stubborness when faced with the reality of our folly and actions...admitting wrong headedness is hard... A gracefull women getting the best of you!... Priceless!
TRUST... Five little letters...but when put together...WOW!
It's my single word of why Im so passionately following Sarah... It encompases everything about her... Like you said... She's earned It!
That is food for thought. I will have to convene my boob policy council, and deliberate publicly for four months to show how professorial I am, then ignore all the recommendations of the people I asked to examine the issue and give a boob policy speech that dissappoints all parties concerned. Now, that is leadership.
I will end with "please insert Seinfeld episode cleavage discussion here."
I appreciate your leadership on this important Czar position that must be filled.
It is too big to fail.
By the way, there is a lady up in Alaska, that will hound you mercilessly to become part of your boob policy council. I would advise giving her some Cleavage ruler, or tape measure, and send her out on a mission. Give her a purpose, trust me! Hey, I know send her to Dan and see what she comes up with! Put the two boobs together! Grade A Cleavage!
Wait a minute Nancy. I thought Andrea McLeod was the one better qualified as the cleavage czar.
Fagan wrote a really nasty column about her a few weeks ago, so bad he had to take it down. He must have had yet another revalation.
Beehive,
Okay, you bring up a good rule of thumb here.
Anybody who is a boob, herself, or himself. Can not be the Cleavage Czar.
I thank you for nippling (ala Christmas Vacation) this possible conflict of interest in the bud.
Beehive,
Okay, you bring up a good rule of thum to use here.
Anyone who is a boob, herself or himself, can not be Cleavage Czar.
How would they know how to differentiate between real boobs and fake boobs?
I thank you for nippling (Christmas Vacation) this possible conflict of interest in the bud.
Now I can't get that horn ensemble out of my head. Thanks a lot, Brian72.
LOL!
People,
Fagan and the rest of the Alaska media is hurting because Sarah is not governor anymore. Nobody cares about them anymore.
Fagan needs ratings to charge more for advertising and he is taking a hit on revenue, etc.
He is trying to make amends with Sarah for money.
It's that simple.
He is slime, and probably will be to the end.
Beehive,
Okay, you have brought up a good rule of thumb to use here.
Anyone who is a boob, herself, or himself, can not be the Cleavage Czar.
How in the world would the boobs be able to differentiate the real boobs, from the fake boobs? Important Cleavage Czar skills are needed in this position.
I thank you for nippling (Christmas Vacation) this potential conflict of interest, in the booo.....uuuuud.
Speaking about Dan Fagan:
Another Anchorage Talk Show Host is deserving of a shout-out. Eddie Burke has an article at Red County that is worth reading. If you are un-familiar with him, he is a gret supporter of Sarah and C4P.
Enjoy!!
<span>http://www.redcounty.com/we-say-alaska-go-sarah-go/34406?taxonomy=1873</span>
<p><span>As We Say in Alaska, "Go Sarah, Go!" </span>
</p><p><span>By </span><span><span>Eddie Burke</span></span><span> </span>
</p><p><span>Some people in the Lower 48 might be saying," what is with you people up in Alaska?" </span>
</p><p><span>You might be wondering why people in our State would kick Sarah Palin around like she's the enemy? Also, you must think some of us are crazy to file 20 Ethics complaints on our former Governor that were all dismissed? If you ask me, these people who filed the complaints are crazy!</span>
</p><p><span>Prior to Sarah running with McCain, her popularity in Alaska had peaked at about 92%. Sarah had bi-partisan support on Oil and Gas legislation; she signed into law new ethics laws. She actually had Democrats that were praising her. She was a "Rock-Star" in Alaska. Sarah was the most liked Governor in the nation. </span>
</p><p><span>But then, a knock at the door or the proverbial phone call came. "Hello," Said Sarah. "Hi, this is John McCain." Wow! Who could turn that down? But Sarah would never predict what would follow in the months and year to come. Sarah Palin would become Democrat enemy #1.</span>
</p><p><span>As the McCain-Palin campaign went forward, Sarah's poll numbers in Alaska went down. Sarah gave McCain the needed bump with that slam-dunk speech at the Republican National Convention. All those partisan Alaskan Democrats who liked her before were now peeling off. As Sarah ramped up the attacks on Barak Hussein Obama about his associations with known Felons, such as Bill Ayers, Democrats around the nation and here in Alaska took it personal.</span></p>
Part 2
<p><span>Well, Sarah and McCain lost. Most conservatives never thought McCain was a good candidate to begin with and we didn't like him much, but we liked Sarah Palin and she was his only hope. Like all Presidential elections, it's never about the VP; it's about the candidate for President.. It was about John McCain, but he blew it-- not just during the campaign, but through his years of votes as a Senator.</span>
</p><p><span>Sarah Comes Back Home</span><span></span>
</p><p><span>The evening Sarah landed in Anchorage; there must have been 800-1000 people to greet her outside at the airport. For 800-1000 people to battle the cold and darkness in Alaska was considered a tremendous gathering. I know; I was there. </span>
</p><p><span>Within only a year after Sarah returned to Alaska, twenty ethics complaints in total would be filed. Most Alaskans thought these women were crazy after 7 or 8 had been filed and dismissed. </span>
</p><p><span>Bloggers made money at being "Palin Haters." They lied about many things, including an FBI Investigation, but when caught lying they never would apologize to the Governor. The FBI made an unprecedented announcement stating the FBI never did and was not investigating Sarah. But there was still no apology. All the investigations against Sarah were dismissed. Nothing alleged was true. It was all just politics and a way to get back at her. For what, you ask? She accepted a request to be the Vice Presidential nominee for the United States of America. </span></p>
<p><span>It was a heavy price to pay for wanting to serve your Country. Her children were thrashed and maligned. The attacks continued on the Palin's in a way that no political family has ever encountered or has ever witnessed. And liberals say they are so tolerant. </span>
</p><p><span>I, like most Alaskans, was embarrassed for what a few in our State would do to bring down Sarah Palin. They cost the state millions and more, but they never cared. They stalled Government, but they never cared. The onslaught of complaints literally brought our Alaska Governor and state to a halt and embarrassed the rest of us. Governor Palin stepped down to let the state move forward. She did the honorable, selfless thing.</span>
</p><p><span>Alaska is great state and populated with people who love our Country. Alaskans are mostly center-right people and believe in the freedom that comes with living in Alaska. We love to hunt, fish and experience the great outdoors. We struggle with the long, cold winters to be away from the urban problems that are consistent with many places in the lower 48. We depend on snowmobiles and four wheelers like many of you depend on cars and trucks. In many places in Alaska, these ATV's are the only connection from village to village. We understand the need to have Alaska's vast natural resources developed responsibly.</span>
</p><p><span>Because of Sarah Palin, most American families know more about Alaska today than ever before. You know we have a wealth of resources including oil, gas and mining that need developed and delivered to markets for your consumption. </span>
</p><p><span>Don't believe the liberals and "Palin Haters" who say Alaskans can't develope these resources safely. They know nothing about Alaska, they are just obstructionists who would rather you ride the bus than drive your car. Yes, Sarah Palin paid a heavy price for wanting to serve and for accepting the call. But America is better off she did. And as her father, Chuck Heath, recently said on my radio program, "You have not seen the last of Sarah Palin."</span>
</p><p><span>As we say in Alaska, "Go Sarah, Go!"</span></p>
Nah, Ms. McClod is a leg and ankle man.....
Yes, we have. Not only do we like to watch our favorite re-runs sometimes we even buy the DVD box set collection! ;-)
She was already on Bob and Mark but the interview was not about the book.. and it only lasted a few seconds.
