Going Rogue at Fort Hood

Governor Palin was at the enormous Army base in Fort Hood, Texas last night to sign copies of Going Rogue. As expected, she was very well-received. Jeremy Schwartz, of American-Statesmen, was there and wrote the following:

Chants of "Sarah!" filled the air, the strains of Kid Rock poured from the speakers, and a large crowd, dressed mostly in civilian clothes, stood on their chairs and clutched cell phones and pocket cameras.

Sarah Palin's book tour rolled through Fort Hood on Friday night, with the former Republican vice-presidential candidate getting an adoring welcome from hundreds of fans waiting to get their copies of "Going Rogue" signed.

The first well-wishers arrived at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, nearly 24 hours before Palin's tour bus would reach Killeen, and numerous fans braved frigid morning temperatures before they were let into Fort Hood's Clear Creek Post Exchange, a mall-like building.

"It was awesome!" said 15-year-old Abigale Elg, whose father, a soldier with the 1st Cavalry Division, is stationed at Fort Hood.

Abigale's mother, Michelle Crutchley, said the visit was important for soldiers and their families in the wake of the Nov. 5 shootings.

"It kind of calms and eases our spirits a little, knowing she's not afraid to come to Fort Hood," she said. "It keeps our soldiers motivated."

Sgt. Maj. Jason Geis of the 1st Army Division West applauded Palin for donating royalties from books bought at the event to the families affected by the shootings.

"I think it says a lot that she came here in the aftermath," he said. "I'm just really proud to be able to shake her hand in person."

Palin did not address the crowd or media, except to thank soldiers and their families.

"My heart is with every military mom, dad, spouse, child, grandparent," she wrote on her Facebook page before coming to Fort Hood.

Read the rest here. The following video was shot last night at Fort Hood:

Governor Palin has a book signing this morning in Fairfax, Virginia followed by her appearance tonight at the Gridiron dinner.

Good morning, Doug!! Thanks for your many fine posts over the last two weeks or so--I am trying to catch up. BTW, I wonder what would happen if your Browns played my Raiders right now...not pretty; still, there is always hope.

Take care!

Brianus,
The Browns are so bad this year that the last I heard, tomorrow's game isn't even sold out, meaning the game won't be on TV locally. I can't remember the last time that happened!

Doug, you guys are experiencing the shame of Raider land right now: games in Oakland are frequently not sold out...a far cry from the days when every game was sold out, and there was a waiting list for season tickets. Davis NEVER should have gone to LA!!

Brianus

Doug Brady, December 5, 2009 9:44 AM

Same thing here. Every Brown's game was always sold out regardless of who we played or weather or whatever. I feel for all those ticket scalper dudes who usually stand down on the lakefront selling tickets!

Sarah 2012!

JP, December 5, 2009 10:09 AM

Good morning.

I was glad to see Todd with her at Ft. Hood yesterday.
Perfect timing once again. It was so appropriate that he was there, adding his support for the Ft. Hood community.
I loved the excitement of that lady in the video who said, "She's going to be our next President!" Hallelujah and Amen lady!!

Jesse Cornish, December 5, 2009 10:33 AM

The grassroots base she has already shown here is overwhelming? Who else at this point has this type of support? Pawlenty? Romney? I think not. It will be helpful not only when it comes to election day, but it will be useful tool in fundraising.

Is there a good timeline as to when Sarah finished last night and when she arrived in DC?

More pictures of Sarah at Fort Hood, as well as a rather positive article about the money she raised while there. http://www.examiner.com/x-30890-Sarah-Palin-Examiner~y2009m12d5-Palin-receives-warm-welcome-at-Fort-Hood#

CharterOakie, December 5, 2009 11:26 AM

Good day, all. God bless.

The videos and print accounts of Sarah's stops at both Plano and Ft. Hood, TX are yet more evidence of the undeniable verity:

Sarah loves America, and America loves Sarah.

She is truly lovely in every way.

Hey, Brianus: nice to see you reappear, friend.

CharterOakie, December 5, 2009 11:39 AM

And sorry for the 'drive-by' greeting. Need to go do some Saturday errands. Have fun, all.
Very happy for BinB and all others at the Fairfax, VA event.

Brianus.Berkleianus, December 5, 2009 11:43 AM

Indeed, my friend, she is lovely in every way. There is a mysterious, intimate bond in man/woman between the body and the soul, of course. I think Sarah is more beautiful now than she was in her twenties precisely because of the many moral tests she has faced, and passed triumphantly. Her soul radiates from and through her face...and especially through those incomparable eyes!!!

God bless,

Brianus

JP, December 5, 2009 11:45 AM

I agree.

Huck the schmuck was on F&F this morning pointing fingers again.
IMO, he is not doing himself any good.
He made a serious error in judgement.
I'm sure he has anguish from it and wants to do something for those families.
Politically though, he will now be an easy target.

manajordan, December 5, 2009 11:47 AM

The Ft. Hood stop sounds like it went off really well. I love that she gave every soldier a hug. That sounds exactly like her.

Brianus.Berkleianus, December 5, 2009 11:47 AM

Yes, she was "our" Sarah from the first hours after McCain chose her. No one conferred the title on her; it was something true and accurate and real per se. To this day she is OUR Sarah!! I thought of her this way from the first minutes and hours...I soon realized that millions shared my sentiments exactly!!

Brianus.Berkleianus, December 5, 2009 11:49 AM

Exactly like her, manajordan...Amen!!

Whitney, December 5, 2009 11:50 AM

Absolutely, Sarah has tundraroots support, that's what I like to call it, like no other!

an lifelong democrat-soon-2-B-independent, December 5, 2009 11:51 AM

is this andrea person on drugs or something? I hope the AG for Alaska sharply rebukes this nonsense, every state including Alaska is wanting to not waste money on crap like this.

I hope the AG has a very sharp response to this lunatic nutjob!

Jesse Cornish, December 5, 2009 11:53 AM

He would have been strong competition for Sarah Palin in a primary, but I seriously doubt he will run now.

Jesse Cornish, December 5, 2009 11:54 AM

The falafel lady is bored again?

Emily B. (Jane Austen), December 5, 2009 11:56 AM

This is NOTHING compared to the Detroit Lions. Sigh...in class we make bets on how far the Lions will lose this year. Hey, they did win what, 2? Geez, maybe 3.

Emily B. (Jane Austen), December 5, 2009 11:59 AM

Brianus, I forgot how poetic you are...only you can write like that. I'm sure that others here will agree with me. You know, I've always kind of imagined you as this wise sage or something...by the grace of God of course ;)

Emily B. (Jane Austen), December 5, 2009 12:00 PM

Andrea is D2M. She needs to go to "Camp Cupcake" for a couple of years to be straightened out. (FYI, where Martha Stewart spent her time)

OldDude, December 5, 2009 12:06 PM

Nice smackdowns by the commenters!

an lifelong democrat-soon-2-B-independent, December 5, 2009 12:07 PM

it snowed in Texas when Sarah was here in Texas (I wish I could have gone to see her). And from what I see on weather.com, it looks like it is snowing in VA today.

Emily B. (Jane Austen), December 5, 2009 12:17 PM

It hasn't snowed an inch here in MI. Usually there's at least 5 inches now. That darn global warming...sarc/

Mountain Mama, December 5, 2009 12:24 PM

Huck is toast; the Dems would fry him thoroughly. He's one less contender for Sarah to beat: God works in mysterious ways!

Mountain Mama, December 5, 2009 12:28 PM

Wherever Sarah Palin goes, she brings light and life, because she carries within her the Holy Spirit of God, Who is love and life and light.

It is VERY moving that she fearlessly went to Fort Hood, and generously donated to the shooting victims' families the proceeds of the books sold there.

God bless Sarah Palin and her wonderful family.

juju, December 5, 2009 12:29 PM

Why do I keep getting just 5 posts on here???

Mountain Mama, December 5, 2009 12:35 PM

Speaking of numbers (yep, it said "5 comments" again for me, too):

The reporter said that Sarah had sold over 1,000,000 of her books so far.

Is that the most recent count? Does anyone know how many books have been sold actually?

JeanA, December 5, 2009 12:39 PM

I had the same problem. I deleted all my temp files and it corrected the problem for now. I think it may have something to do with memory.

gelston the knowitall, December 5, 2009 12:44 PM

Is that possible - for any one to catch up to her?

JeanA, December 5, 2009 12:44 PM

How many books do you have to sell to hand over a check for $10,000.00? If Gov. Palin signed 2 thousand books that would not cover 10 thousand dollars?

gelston the knowitall, December 5, 2009 12:49 PM

watch out, Mountain Mama, I hear that Al Gore has demanded a recount!!!

I was thinking about you a lot last evening and re-read the post you sent me on Health Care on that pink site. I was telling my wife that I miss your comments.

gelston the knowitall, December 5, 2009 12:55 PM

with the money that Sarah raised in Richland, WA, her presence has drawn in about $30,000 for charity in the past week. I think we are on to something here

What about this for an idea... at all her events she encourages attendees to bring cans for food for a local food bank and/or collect money in a kettle for the Salvation Army LIke at Christmastime (the kettles must gather dust all year)?
Her footprint could be the news in the local paper about how much was donated. Think of how much she could bring in at events like the one in Salinas, Kansas, with 5000 tickets already sold.

Hey people with Sarah's team, do you read this comments?

Bill in Baltimore, December 5, 2009 12:59 PM

I saw Sarah ! and Todd and Chuck

She looked awesome and spoke to me with her attention.

See additional comments on Sat Open Thread, around page 5 I think.

More late tonight

JP, December 5, 2009 1:00 PM

Snowy DC too. :-)

MarkRNY, December 5, 2009 1:11 PM

There's almost a mystical bond that she has with her supporters and it's the easiest thing in the world for her to keep it going. She's just has to be her! Never seen anything like it. This is nothing like the pre-packaged, Madison Ave. image consultant, practice in front of the mirror, media hyped, bus 'em in enthusiasm O had Once. When people meet her it's both the thrill of a lifetime, and like meeting someone you've known forever--and there numbers are GROWING! It's scaring the Beltway to death .

The lady who gave her the necklace and bracelet was typical. It's something she'd do for her daughter or niece.

She's the biggest force by far in politics today. Obama's an overexposed flash in the pan. The Left, RINO's, Repub machine hacks, etc. see her and The Doors 'The End' starts playing in their heads.

Look at that Sarah! She gets to have all the fun.

ChillinInMN, December 5, 2009 1:14 PM

Hopefully I get to shake Sarah's hand tomorrow in Sioux Falls, SD. It's a 4 hour drive for me, and I will leave early in the morning. It would be nice to shake Sarah's hand, but I'm sure I'll be late for the line. But you know what? That's okay. Really I'm content to just be there and be one of the many in the crowd to cheer and wave at the bus if that's all it turns out to be.

I have my little cards all ready to pass out to people in line. They turned out really nice (thanks for the idea, Mrs. Terry Johnson!). One side has a moose that says with one of those balloons, "Let's Go Rogue with Sarah" - the other side I put all the logos for C4P, Facebook, Twitter, Team Sarah, and SarahPac. Maybe that will help spread the word on this great site. I will be a "community organizer" of sorts, just like Mrs. Terry Johnson ;)

Wish me luck. I will be sure to dress very warm like an eskimo because it's really, really cold here!

gelston the knowitall, December 5, 2009 1:16 PM

For those that have not met Mountain Mama, she was one of the moderators on Adam Brickley's original Palin website. I respect her comments more than any of you could understand.

MOA is an hour closer, but it's Monday and I can't get it off. Totally bummed because my daughter lives in Minneapolis and said she'd go too. NOW, this was definately a shock because she's an Obama supporter. She did ask to borrow my second copy of Going Rogue when she was home for Thanksgiving!!! Hopefully she's reading it.

Sarah and the publisher are giving 100% over publishers cost, probably. Maybe $10/book or so?

Big time gift. Not "part of the proceeds" like many do.
