Governor Palin on Obama's Gitmo Strategy: "Very, very odd"
While on Fox News yesterday, Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) discussed President Obama's strategy of sending suspected terrorists to a prison in his home state:
The much safer policy would be to keep them at Guantanamo Bay. The taxpayer has paid for a $275 million state-of-the-art facility there. And it doesn’t present any of the unnecessary security or legal risks that this plan does.
[...]
Under this proposal, we are not closing Gitmo, we're just moving it to America's heartland, and I think that poses an unnecessary risk.
Governor Palin tweeted about this segment last night:
Appreciate Rep.Mark Kirk's(Illinois)comments re:Pres Obama not CLOSING Gitmo, merely moving it outside of Chicago!Very, very odd strategy,DC.
Prior to these developments, Governor Palin mentioned President Obama's handling of Guantanamo Bay in an interview with Bill O'Reilly as an example of why the president is not doing a good job:
SARAH PALIN: No, I think in the two areas that I am most concerned about, national security, there's some questionable actions that he's taken so recently that I believe weakens our country and our security.
O'REILLY: Give me an example. I mean, what is he doing wrong?
PALIN: Gitmo. We decide we're going to close Gitmo without a security plan? We're going to bring Mohammed over here? And we're going to create this circus atmosphere here in New York and try this terrorist in our court system that is reserved under our Constitution for American citizens to be able to have their rights exercised. That's a problem.
Governor Palin understands that national security is paramount, and she'll be there to call President Obama out when he undermines it.

Oh God. Please don't endorse Kirk for Senator, Governor! He voted for crap-n-tax!
This is Simple. What is Congress doing? Article I (dealing with Congress not the President), section 8 Clause 11 says the following:
Clause 11: To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
It is up to Congress not the President. The president just enforces what they come up with. Art I, section 8, Clause 10 also alludes to this as well. When is our congress going to start doing their J-O-B. They are the lawmakers not the President. Make the laws as the Constitution of the United States tells them to and they swore an oath to or they all need to step aside and let people in that will.
Andrew - I think this is a way for GOV to endorse without endorsing. During the General she likely will endorse him. It will be between a far left loon or just a left-center candidate. I can bite the bullet there.
Kirk just got a pat on the head, and an "okay, go play outside again, Mom is busy."
President Obama just got an icy, questioning stare, as if to say: "what in the world are you doing?"
I didn't see her tweet as an endorsement, but her showing that there are some things that even she can see eye to eye on, even with liberals and RINO's. She has done the same thing with Oblahblah on a few occasions. I see it as her was of "moderating" her message. Showing that there are times that she can agree with leftists and still hold true to her principles.
John McCain is the only liberal I see who will get her nod, and honestly... who could blame her for that one!
Is odd some kinda code for asinine?
Michelle Malkin has a great article about this today. The title of her article is brilliant.
Yes, I think it is.
Andrew:
I don't think it was an endorsement at all.
I believe Governor Palin made point to mention Kirk in her tweet because he is the guy running to take over Obama's seat.
Just twisting the knife a bit more forcefully.
The trial of KSM in NYC is the most incredibly stupid blunder O's administration has made. Even if there weren't a hundred other reasons, I would vote against him for that alone.
Its lunacy to close Gitmo. I can see it now.. the fanatic radicals try to bomb a few coconut trees in Guantanamo.. the marines laugh, no one cares. They blow up a hotel in Havana demanding prisioner release.. we roll on the floor laughing and say keep at it. That's why it hasn't happened.
Now, bring prisioners to New York, give them the megaphone of all the news services, and have them yell their ideology, and yes, some nutcase is going to blow up something in New York, and some group will start beheading prisioners demanding for prisioner exchange. Same will happen in Chicago. Just Idiotic on our part.. more than that: criminal, as the blood of those that will die will be on the heads of this administration.
The focus on Palin's message was the closing of Gitmo. Kirk was simply a means to an end.
P.Obama is running our country while sucking on a (baby) bottle.
If she feels she has to make a TACTICAL decision, I will support her. All politicians have to do that at times. I live in illinois and I can tell you I have ZERO confidence in the illinois GOP to win the senate seat no matter who is their nominee. They are beyond incompetent, so maybe it is one of those races she should stay away from. After all, there are plenty of others.
I will say this. I do not like Kirk. He is a fraud from top to bottom. Gianoullis however would be a rubber stamp for ANYTHING Obama wants. He will vote straight down the line every time left wing. At least Kirk wont do that. A low bar I know, but thats Illinois for ya.
I think this is different than say Florida with Rubio who can definitely win the general. Illinois is a corruptocrats paradise and the dem machine can do anything to win.
Seems to me that the Oblamo is putting his presidency on the line once again with the naive assumption that their will be no terrorist attack on the US in the near future. Bringing high profile terrorists to the US for political reasons may be seen as the stupidest single act by a US president which is saying a lot considering the Jimmy Carter years.
A major terrorist attack on US soil that could be associated with Oblamo's actions.......grounds for impeachment? Not that most of his actions to date beg for for his removal from office.
If an attack happens in Illinois after prison transfer(pray to God it does not happen)......will Oblamo and Michelle ever be welcomed back home?
You know it's funny, she is becoming their mommy! After she gets them elected they'll throw her to the polar bears, but right now she's Mrs. Brady. Only the Repubs running in the Northeast and the West Coast will keep their distance--for now. She's the queen of the Heartland...The Queen of Hearts!
It comes with a price tag guys!
I'm glad you added baby to your comment. heehee
Now this explains everything...
I knew there was a reason Oprah decided to quit her talk show. And here I thought it was her endorsement of Obama last year that caused her ratings to tank.
It turns out Oprah has finally listened to Gayle and is moving to California before the terrorists arrive.
So long Chicago.....hello Hollywood!
I just don't see Sarah endorsing Mark Kirk. If you read anything at all about what kinds of candidates she would support, Mark Kirk is not it! If she does endorse him. it would be more of a political move which would be disappointing. It would not influence me to support Mark Kirk, and it would not make me lose support for Sarah. I would be disappointed though.
We must remember that this "support" of Kirk was just a tweet! :) Sarah's always willing to support good decisions and statements no matter who they are from. Heck, she even supported Obama's Afghanistan decision, albeit with important caveats.
Durbin, Obama and Gov. Quinn tried to make this decision all about jobs for Illinois. Thomson, Illinois is hurting, but the prison is available because the Illinois state government can't budget appropriately to properly utilize it! What does that tell you? It says that the Illinois state government is standing with their hands open ready to take any federal money they can get. Also, no matter where in America they were to transfer these prisoners, it is not good. I think it portrays us as weak and gives the terrorists a small victory. This will give these extremists the opportunity to influence other prisoners and will likely open the door for more civilian trials. This allows the terrorists to have lawyers with access to key information and gives them the rights of the American citizen. I just don't see how this is a good decision at all.
i agree whit.
when she agrees with rino's like kirk where she can, it does help moderate her message some, while still letting her be true to who she is.
she knows she has grassroots support... but there are lots of indy's, republicans, and hilary dems to be won over still. pointing out where she agrees with the people these voters are more familiar with will help her in the end.
From a fellow conservative in Chicago, I agree that Kirk is probably the best chance the Republicans have to take back the Senate seat, especially against Alexi Gianoulious, but, I would still like to see Pat Hughes get a good push in the primary to make a point to Kirk that he can't ignore conservatives. Maybe this is, in part what Governor Palin is doing. Saying, you need to be here, I can help you
Once again, Gov. Palin expresses what so many others are thinking: "Very, very odd" indeed. Pres. Obama and his team must be the most perplexing administration in the history of modern politics. I guess this is what happens when the 'urbanified' Boomers take over the White House.
As one of the CodeRed attendees wrote on her poster: Sarah, HELP!
Common Sense Works
Sarah proves it daily
not to lessen a good solid college degree but w/OUT common sense the degree is not worth the paper it's printed on!
(BHO proves THAT daily)

It is odd, but on the other hand, he did promise to close Gitmo and since no other countries would take the terrorists the only way he can say that he fulfilled his promise to close Gitmo. To have them in the US is just ridiculous, even if they never get out they will have opportunity to indoctrinate other prisioners and who know what will happen the other prisioners get out.
I'd vote for him
ROFLOL at least he's putting them in his own dang state (pity the Illinoisians) (?)
and so what will become of Gitmo? do we give it to cuba? let them take all the workable parts to sell on the black market? just curious?
Obama will say, he kept true to his word, he closed Gitmo, when in all reality he should have said that he just moved Gitmo to IL, if I were IL, I would be ticked off, who wants these terrorists in their back yards, it seems that prison could have been opened for IL prisoners, but instead they released prisoners in that state due to overcrowding??? What!!
Sarah 2012!
I said on HA that I look forward to her first SOTU speech as president when she tells Congress they are all in need of some serious adult supervision. I can just picture the theatrics from Pelosi now.
Everytime she says something it's like I'm hearing my own words coming out of her mouth. Very odd indeed. I thought the liberals' conniption fit over Gitmo was that these terrorists' "rights" were being trampled because they were being held indefinitely (no allowance being made for the fact that they are enemy combatants of course), so how does moving them to Illinois resolve that problem?
Folks: Arrington!
http://www.republicanassemblies.org/illinois-republican-assembly-endorses-john-arrington-for-gop-nomination-for-us-senate/
Twenty years ago, right out of college, Arrington served as a community activist on the South Side of Chicago. There, he actually met the young Obama...and learned first hand the truth about Obama's radical plans for America. He learned that Obama did not share the African-American community's love of country or conservative, social values, nor the established belief in pulling oneself up by one's own bootstraps.
It's a tailor made story!
I will say though that this adds to the reasons why moving from Illinois to Texas is sounding more and more like a good idea.
I've had my eye a bit on Arrington. Hughes sounds good too as does Wallace if he runs as a third party candidate and seems viable.
By the way LT are you part of the 912 Project here in Springfield? I got an e-mail from someone yesterday with the initials LT when I signed up , and I was wondering if perhaps it was you.

I'm curious as to what a Tea Party endorsement or Independence Caucus endorsement would do for a real conservative candidate. I know Chicago is as rotten as it gets w/voter fraud and dirty dealings, but there are more of "us" than "them," as Glenn always says.
While Kirk may be the best shot to put an R in that seat, what good does it do if he constantly votes with the D's? And all the RINOs do that once they get in with that DC crowd.
Whit - You may want to keep citizenship in Illinois in case your vote is needed there. I am not a Kirk fan by any stretch but if he wins the Repub Primary he is probably a 80% solution that Reagan would accept. If he is below that then I think Sarah will stay out of this race.
Whitney, I did send a 912 greeting email to a Whitney in the last couple days. Was that was you?!
Afternoon, just got back from dentist appointment My teeth are in perfect shape my dentist old me he can't make any money off of me!, Sarah will not endorse Mark Mirk, she was just giving credit where credit is due, just like when she gave Obama credit for taking a page out of her book (literally!) in his Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech. Sarah is not an extreme partisan if someone she disagrees with most of the time actually says something right, she's not petty like Obama that she won't give that person credit.
I am really sorry to hear about Cruela's friend, I know how she feels a friend of mine I went to Junior High with committed suicide last year because his girlfriend left him, I will pray especially hard for her, Crulea deserves an entire Rosary on this one
I was just being hyperbolic about the Gitmo thing, not Kirk. :) If I'm still in IL next November and he's the nominee, I'll likely hold my nose and vote for him. He doesn't have my support in the primaries though. It's coming up. Primaries in Illinois are in the first week of February. This partly explains Obama's constant campaign mode.
Hee, hee, hee, that was me!
I had a snappy saying and a photoshopped pix of Obumbles as a donkey on one side, and lots of people asked to take pix of it. I had the "Sarah, help!" on the other side.
An older gent came up to me and said, "You've got the best sign here." I said, "Oh, the picture of Obama?" He said, No, Sarah. She's the one we need."
There were a couple other Sarah signs there, too. There was someone walking around the perimeter of the rally with a tall "Palin/Bachmann 2012" sign, which was esp. cute since Michele B. was there yesterday. Laura Ingraham was the featured speaker and she pulled no punches. She called out the cameramen (some of whom smirked through the speeches) and then told some revised "Christmas stories."
There were also some creative folks there. There was a one-story grim reaper someone was carrying around, and a huge piece of cardboard cut into the shape of a shark coming to the surface. Of course, it had "congress" written on the shark!
Yep that was me.
Under this proposal, we are not closing Gitmo, we're just moving it to America's heartland,
IMO all Kirk is saying is that Obama is just changing the physical location of GITMO. Maybe for the libs nothing is importanct ther than appearance. Obama and company want us to think that the prison in IL will be just as safe & secure as GITMO. However unless they treat the terrorists just like regular criminals this is nothing more than trying to rope-a dope the enemy. Or is Obama so naive that he thinks the US haters will not object to the same level of incarceration just because its locale has changed? Or are the American citizens the ones he's trying to make fools of - move the scum to the US and let the liberal courts force all the rules of our justice system to become applicable?
Its really sad but lately the prisoners in Gitmo are treated better than prisoners in the US, it is the guards who are attacked more often than the inmates, the guards have to wear face masks because when they bring in their food (which meets their dietary guidelines btw) the inmates will often fling various bodily fluids at the guards and are they put in solitary no nothing is done about it because it might be "torture"
Awesome! Sign up on the new site sometime, alright? I've got a couple blog posts up on it myself :-).
O/T The phone rang at parents house last weekend. Mom was busy making cookies and dad on his cell with a client. He runs his own small limo business. It was an unlisted number so being curious I answered it. Jackpot!! It was someone from the Gingrich camp. They wanted to hit me up for $100.00 donation for a signed copy of a Newt book. Looks like he stole Sarahs idea. I already donated in November for her signed book. The lady on the line said he needs the money so he can do whats right for America bla bla bla. I told her Newt was an ok guy and I liked his Cantract with america back in the day but he pissed me off when he backed that liberal Republican Scozzafava. The woman took millions of dollars from the Republicans then turned on the party and backed the Democrats.
The lady on the phone then told me uh uh um well Mr. Gingrich did all he could in the last days to help Hoffman. Thats when I told her Sarah backed the right person from the start and that all my donatins go to SarahPAC. She was informed that Sarah and I share the same values and views for America and I trusted she will back candidates that have the best interest of the country at heart. With Newt its all political....with Sarah its a common sence thing.
Thats a good idea I do not plan on living in Ohio for the rest of my life I am actually thinking of moving to Alaska, but I will stay in Ohio through the election of 2012 because Sarah will need all the votes she can get there it is a very important state
sence=sense
great now ya'll don't think I have any LOL
sence=sense
How much money is 0bama's chicago thuracracy going to make off the prison deal, refurbishing, etc. Follow the money.
When somebody says or does something sensible, Governor Palin is going to give credit where credit is due, regardless of party, regardless of other positions. That is what true bipartisanship is. Unlike President Obama's bipartisanship which consists of listening politely to what others have to say, then doing exactly what he planned on doing all along.

I don't really care except for the fact that it seems like a huge waste of money. I mean, does this mean they are simply going to totally abandon the facility and there will be a multimillion dollar facility sitting over there with the grass growing up around it? or are they just going to stop using it as a prison?
dr v
I live in a state not unlike Alaska where hunting is an integral part of the culture and people literally hunt to put food on the table. (Arkansas). But I can understand cities like Chicago needing to have stricter control of guns. I am willing to cut some slack on this issue.
I think the big problem is that there is way too much going on at the federal level. Our nation is so diverse, there are different needs for different laws. Ironically, the Dems, who are supposed to be all about diversity and "celebrating people's differences" are the ones who want to cram federal policies down every one's throats.

Just think of the poor cheeseheads, though. You can throw a rock at Wisconsin from that prison.
Naw, this gives them a perfect place to house "political prisoners" after their Leftist revolution is complete. They plan to use it as America's Gulag or Siberia. The first offical "re-education" camp. I'll see ya all there if we can't turn this mess around and restore the Republic.....
I wonder if Governor Palin spells idiotic like this: idioddic? And all that got into her tweet was the "odd" part of it.

<p>Gov Palin is right on this issue. There are security problems to trying the terrorists in NYC (where they'll create a circus atmosphere for the victim's families and make us the laughing stock of the world). But putting so many Gitmo detainess, where they already enjoy more rights than the Geneva Convention requires, is just so stupid that it smacks of corruption. The prison near Chicago, home of the President and Rod Blogovich, isn't even completed yet. But it got selected as the most secure facility? No one has a problem with that? I submit it'll be Obama's Halliburton. (Follow the money).
</p><p>And for those who think there's an intangible benefit to our world wide image by closing Gitmo, I say, maybe so. But it hardly seems likely it will turn the hearts of terrorists. They won't suddenly like us. And even if world opinion shifted some, so what? That cannot outweigh the security risks to our own people, and the mockery of our judicial system that these trials will surely entail.
</p><p>
</p><p>Newsflash for the leftists, the military system has existed for centuries in our history. Read up on it! I'm a former defense attorney and I value our rights and don't like police states anymore than anyone else. But this is an example of us losing our common sense, and following a very naive Presidential policy, with an idealogue for our Attorney General. What will it take for them to see their mistake? They assure of us security but they can't monitor the White House. They assured of us convictions, (as if that was sufficient reassurance or justification) but already the defendants are arguing for their day in court, as if they're owed one. Would any other country have gone so far out of its' naive way to show them that just by being nice, we can all get along? Well good luck. A lot of the evidence against the terrorists may be suppressed due to the lack of Miranda rights being given to them b/c they were not necessary. War criminals don't get the same rights as American Citizens tried in our civilian courts, and shouldn't be. Treating these war criminals as if they're citizens is stupid and will result in some acquittals of very guilty, very evil creatures. We're compounding their original crimes with our stupidity and arrogance. Jeanninespitfire@gmail.com or jeanninessweetblog.blogspot.com
