John McCormack from the Weekly Standard Slaps Dave Weigel and Others Over "Death Panels"
In case you missed it, Dave Weigel from the Washington Independent wrote a blog post today crying about the attention that the media has paid to Governor Palin's use of the term "death panel" on her Facebook page. Other members of the far-left blogosphere such as Steve Benen, Ezra Klein, Media Matters, and Greg Sargent have concurred with Weigel. What none of these bloggers point out is that an August poll from the Pew Research Center found that 50% of the adults surveyed who had heard of the term did not know or believed that the healthcare legislation would create death panels. According to an August NBC News poll, 45% of the adults surveyed believed that the healthcare legislation would likely allow the government to make decisions about when to stop providing medical care to the elderly. These far-left bloggers are effectively arguing that the media shouldn't given any attention to a claim that (1) according to NBC News, nearly half the country's adults believes is true and (2) was made by someone with an 80% favorable rating from adults that identify with the opposition party to President Obama.
In any event, the other claim that these folks from the liberal blogosphere advance is that Governor Palin somehow changed her definition of the term "death panel." John McCormack from the Weekly Standard does a great job setting the historical record straight:
It is perfectly clear that Palin is talking about rationing in general. She specifically made an argument about the government's refusing to pay the cost of health care will lead to rationing care, and she also wrote that her "baby with Down Syndrome" could be affected by such rationing. How would "end-of-life counseling" for the elderly cause the death of a disabled baby?
As Ben Smith notes, Palin's spokesperson did cite the end-of-life counseling provision as a specific example of rationing in the bill. But that was just one example, which, Palin argued could put pressure on the elderly.
Obama himself acknowledged at an August 11 townhall that the "underlying argument" made by Palin was that his health care bill would "mean rationing of care"....
If Obama recognized Palin was talking about rationing of care, why can't Politifact and other journalists understand that as well? On August 12, Palin responded to Obama and made an argument that the end-of-life counseling provisions could sway the decisions of the elderly. She quoted Charles Lane, who wrote: "So when Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) denies that Section 1233 would 'place senior citizens in situations where they feel pressured to sign end-of-life directives that they would not otherwise sign,' I don’t think he’s being realistic." Feel free to disagree with that argument, but it's not a lie.
You can read John's entire post here.
As an aside, in case you wanted more background on these liberal bloggers, all you really need to know is that Steve Benen recently gave the following political advice to Democrat Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas:
If I were a campaign strategist for Blanche Lincoln...I'd encourage her to become the biggest champion of bold, progressive health care reform in the Senate. I'd urge Lincoln to show some major leadership, get out way in front, and position herself as a Kennedy-like guardian of those suffering under the status quo.
That's right, Steve Benen's advice to Senator Lincoln is to move further to the left on healthcare in a state that the Democrat party, under the leadership of John Kerry and Barack Obama, has turned from a solidly blue state in the 1990s to a solidly red state today. This conservative really hopes Lincoln takes Benen's advice.

Thanks Tommy for this article. John MCormack does a good job of slapping down the crazies on the left.
Thanks for the article! I'm glad he pointed out that even Obama recognized that Sarah meant "rationing of care." The lefty commentators and Politifact need to read and re-read everything Sarah writes before they go in attack mode on her.
palin never gave an interview about death panels

Attached is the original Facebook Posting. It dealt everything with cost and rationing. I think libs create things that are not there.
They are not crazies. The lamestream media and the other nuts get their talking points on how to spin everything Sarah from death panels to wearing a visor. They are like fleas hopping from one to the next. Sarah does her part and sits back and laughs at the bunch of clowns. Like she said, there is so much bull crap out there.
You are correct AKReport. HEr 1st interview after being Governor was Oprah. The Death Panel Facebook was 7 August. I went back and followed all of Sarah's Facebook postings. She talked concern of the end of life counseling but her theme was always rationing. I wonder if Politifact is going to rate the media and what they are saying she wrote.
Blanche is going down. She's polling behind every Tom, Dick and Harry who is even thinking about running in the Republican primary. My guess is they know that and they've offered her some position for falling on her sword and voting on this bill.

I just pray that people are now paying attention to how DC works. It isn't pretty and these theive get rich off of the tax payers' money. It may be the "way that DC works" but we need to demand that it doesn't contiue. I am sick of the graft, theft, and general sleaziness of the place. None of them should be exempt from the rules or Constitution. These people are demeaning our culture.
I just checked Sarah's Facebook page and her last posting on Heathcare is missing.
ALERT!!! Obama has signed executive order giving Interpol immunity to operate on Amercan soil. Can you say "international police force?"

Sarah wins another dubious award from the libelous media:
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/rusty-weiss/2009/12/23/ny-daily-news-awards-palin-one-year-s-worst-celebrity-parents
But the NB guys put up Seth's Sarah/Trig video. Which I watched again to cheer my up over the libelous media.
Benen obviously doesn't live in the South or know very much about it aside from the stereotypes he learned in public school. ObamaCare is overwhelmingly unpopular here. At last count, it was opposed by Arkansans 70-30. Blanche isn't sitting on the fence b/c she enjoys the view. She knows full well that going balls to the wall with these suicidal wingnuts on the far left will most certainly guarantee she's not going to get re-elected. Of course, the truth is, she probably isn't going to get re-elected anyway. She trails every other potential candidate in the polls. Our governor, who has grave concerns about the cost of this bill (his office estimates it will cost Arkansas between $100 million and $250 million to implement), polls fully 40 points higher than Blanche. She hurts her chances further if Beebe opposes a bill that she has thrown her support behind.
They're just being disingenous tools. They know perfectly well what she meant; it just doesn't fit their narrative to admit as much.
Benen, has never had anything factual, logical, or ethical on his site, so this consequently par for the course. The NY Daily News is not only a Trig Truther hangout, but it has given the 9/11 variety
more it's share of press. it's possibly the worst paper out there, and that's including the Village Voice
Is Levi Johnston one of their best celebrity parents?
DC needs a "mental enema"
GOOD. Don't let the door hit her on the way out!
i hope Sarah comments on this Obama Immunity Interpol deal!!
LMAO, Well put!

Visor-gate was a succeful attempt to further debunk the millionaire diva meme/ wardrobe nonsense. She is a political genius.

latest census information for restructuring of electoral vote for 2012 election:

So it sounds like we net +16 in the electoral college from 2008 red states.
The word is frugal not cheap, she was raised that way, she wasnt born with a silver spoon in her mouth unlike the elitists in most of Congress, the White House and the media. There arent any Neman-Marcus stores in Alaska and fashion doesnt come before practicality, Alaska doesnt suffer fools for it can kill very easily if not prepared for it.
At least there wasnt any Neman-Marcus stores in Anchorage when I was there.
Olympia Snowe will vote No tomorrow on the health care bill because she could not get answers about co-pay, deductibles, etc. She's been on one-on-one talks with Obama, yet she couldn't even get an answer from him. Also, the bill will increase payroll taxes (just as Palin had said during her RNC speech) and that will hinder job creation for small businesses: http://tinyurl.com/ybwhtuz - I don't know why Norah O'Donnell looks so pissed in this video, but she is actually nice to Snowe.
On the other hand, King Obama is paying( with our tax money) $ 4000 per night for his Hawaiian vacation estate.
My blue state will likely lose one seat. People are leaving the state. Republican gubernatorial candidates are running on the fact that Illinois is 48th in the country in economic growth.
Hey Admin -- Sarah just fired a salvo at the Senate. From Sarah's twitter:
c tomrrw's Healthcare Takeover vote=the sleeping giant will awaken&action will b takn by"average"Americans as lite shines on big govt growth
May that giant stomp out both liberals and RINOs.
There aren't any Neiman'Marcus's in Arkansas either. Nor in Mississippi as far as I know.
