The Meme Quietly Begins/Minnesota Open Thread (Updated with a Factual Error from Talking Points Memo)

-Some media outlets are noticing.

-Erika Dao, Media Relations Specialist at the Mall of America, tweeted that around 1400 (including C4P's very own K. Carpenter) attended today's Minneapolis book signing. 500 had already started to wait in line before dawn.

-Governor Palin is now on her way to the fundraiser for the Minnesota Freedom Club. Michele Bachmann will attend as well. In case you missed it, Rasmussen finds that Bachmann has a higher net approval/disapproval rating than President Obama statewide in Minnesota.

-She's on her way to the home of the Air Force Academy tomorrow. I believe several C4P regulars plan on attending. Drop a comment/tip as usual. Since we are talking about the military, I'll just take the time to point out that President Obama's approval rating among military households is under 40% since the media won't do it.

What else is going on?

Update: Josh Marshall from Talking Points Memo claims that Governor Palin will meet Congresswoman Bachmann for the first time at the Freedom Club fundraiser. Unfortuantely for Marshall, his claim is unsurprisingly completely false.

Update #2: Josh Marshall walks it back at the same link.

Update #3: Minnesota Public Radio has a report on the Minnesota event. (h/t HRH)

Oo, open thread. I'll use this opportunity to re-post this:

If you're trying to find the hat wore by Governor Palin at Fairfax signing, the one shown in my avatar, it can be purchased at QVC for $40. Just choose olive as the color, and you're done!

Are you sure thats the hat, the one Sarah is wearing doesnt really look like that. Also, I am SO SO SO excited that Sarah is meeting Michelle tonight..I absolutely adore Michelle Bachmann, she is my 2nd favorite Conservative woman

Andrew, December 7, 2009 6:08 PM

Yep, if you look at this photo, you can see that it's the exact same hat. Zoom in at the photo on QVC, and you'll see the stitching matches, plus both have multi-colored specks. And they both have large buttons offset to the side of a short, rounded brim.

yogi41, December 7, 2009 6:08 PM

Someone on this site posted a link yesterday to Amazon, which had the hat. That hat looked exactly like the one Sarah was wearing, and it came in a variety of colors. It was only $7 or $8, too.

panchita, December 7, 2009 6:09 PM

thats a dream ticket right there. testosterone at suboptimal levels in the GOP, time for an estrogen surge.

Andrew, December 7, 2009 6:10 PM

The Amazon hat is incorrect, as it has a horizontal stitching above the brim, smaller buttons that are above the brim (which was also larger) rather than offset, and no multi-colored specks.

Sarah FB post on Pearl Harbor. I called it last night and this morning! ;)

Colorado Springs has also been long considered the world headquarters or "Vatican" of evangelical christianity. No surprise there's a stop there. Probably more of a consideration than being the home of the air force.

It appears as if the book is doing very well, not only in hardcover but the audio and large print versions have also been firmly entrenched at #1 at Amazon since their releases, not just in nofiction but for all books.

Good to see.

Lakerfanalways, December 7, 2009 6:10 PM

Yeah, I am the one that posted it, two days ago, but I was told it was not the same hat

Lakerfanalways, December 7, 2009 6:11 PM

Apparently there are many hats that look just like the one she is wearing but its not the exact same hat..and yes a Palin/Bachmann ticket would be my dream ticket

Andrew, December 7, 2009 6:17 PM

The QVC hat linked above is the exact hat.

yogi41, December 7, 2009 6:18 PM

Oh. It looked the same and the price was great! :)

A, December 7, 2009 6:19 PM

I am hoping that Sarah bought hers at the Consignment Resale store in Anchorage. That would be fun!

Someone posted on TeamSarah how some liberal bastard was arrested at the Mall Of America for throwing two tomatoes at Sarah Palin when she was there, luckilly no tomatoes hit her and they ddint even come close but they did hit a security guard, the guy was quickly arrested and taken into custody..boy those libs, they are all about peace and love and understanding arent they..God Bless the brave men and women who protect Sarah, they are doing a great job protecting her, its sad, this is what liberals have become..just a bunch of bullies

Andrew, December 7, 2009 6:27 PM

Ugh, I really hate deranged liberals.

Whitney, December 7, 2009 6:28 PM

As President Obama showed at the All-Star Game, liberals can't throw.

panchita, December 7, 2009 6:32 PM

segment on harball. at around the 30 min mark chris with susan page (twitterer last nite) and jonathan martin (politico) who interviewed the Sioux City folks in line and found who would caucus for her who had NEVER previously been involved in the political process and were OUTSIDE the party. chrissy asks "where they all white people" and jonathan martin has to grudgingly admit there was one. Chrissy asks who wrote her material and page responds eric shnurr. chrissy goes on in hissy fit outraged that someone would take credit for something they hadn't written. The other two on the panel are trying to bring chrissy back to earth and remind him that no politician writes their own stuff.

yogi41, December 7, 2009 6:33 PM

Couple this incident with the guy who threw eggs at her (when she wasn't there), but the eggs hit Adrienne instead.

juju, December 7, 2009 6:33 PM

UPDATE ON SARAH'S HAT: The green hat she wore is made by San Diego Hat company...you can purchase it at QVC item #192241. It is $40.00 with shipping and with taxes it ruins $50.00. I wanted it, I deserved it, I am worth it, therefore I ordered it. We are going on a harbor cruise of Newport Beach with a club group we belong to and will see the ships/boats
with Christmas decorations....I will wear it then.

Ceejay, December 7, 2009 6:33 PM

That's the one I linked above! :P

juju, December 7, 2009 6:38 PM

I loved that section with Crissy and the other two...they had very nice comments about Sarah. I think she was a real hit at the dinner and made some new friends...at least they probably won't just disk her.

Hopefully people will be more watchful and stop these jackasses before they have the chance to throw whatever they have. Only eggs and tomatos so far, but I wouldn't be surprised if some lefty whackjob has a malotov cocktail or grenade at some point in the future.

techno, December 7, 2009 6:44 PM

I knew that CNN showing Palin's F/UF at 46/46 would invoke this type of response and I predict will also unfortunately provoke other responses. It goes with the territory.

Again I repeat the point I made earlier in the day. Where are the pundits and intellectuals now that declared Sarah Palin dead politically and/or suggested that Sarah Palin had to 'bone up'?

Enrigen, December 7, 2009 6:46 PM

Former Senator Santorum from Pennsylvania is reportedly thinking about running for president in 2012.

When asked about Governor Palin, he said "She's done some things that, you know, certainly are going to cause her to have to do some explaining if she runs for president."

Speaking of explaining... I'd like to see Santorum explain how he's going to be elected president, when he lost his re-election by about 20 percentage points in his home state.

wisetrog, December 7, 2009 6:46 PM

I am sorry but who wrote her speech at Gridiron?

Andrew, December 7, 2009 6:49 PM

I was conscious of my surroundings when I went to see Governor Palin in Orlando, expecting some asshat liberal to try something. I would have pounded the liberal before the security guards got to 'em.

Thankfully, when she was signing in Orlando she was up on the second story, and the only way up was by an escalator.

wisetrog, December 7, 2009 6:51 PM

Santorum would be a good cabinet pick.

wisetrog, December 7, 2009 6:55 PM

Just noticed Rick Brookshier at the Corner is already promoting Santorum. Are they hoping seriously that Santorum would cut into her evangelical lead? They are moer deluded than I thought.

Beehive, December 7, 2009 6:55 PM

You nailed it Whitney! ;)

Tommy Report, December 7, 2009 6:58 PM

So she's at 80% favorables with Republicans
16% with Democrats (I'd like to see the breakdown as to her percentages among conservative/moderate/liberal Democrats. The latter two groups are irrelevant because they always vote Democrat while the conservative Democrats may not).

51% with men
41% with women

juju, December 7, 2009 7:05 PM

Yep...thank you Andrew ....you made my day.

juju, December 7, 2009 7:08 PM

Sorry Lakerfan...look like and "look just like" are two different things. The one on QVC is just like hers. The stitching and button size and button location are the same as well as the little specks in the fabric. Girls know this kind of thing.

Andrew, December 7, 2009 7:08 PM

You're welcome!

RINO-Hunter, December 7, 2009 7:11 PM

He endorsed and capaigned for that traitor Snarlin' Arlen. That's enough to sink him, no chance of him getting the nom. He could screw things up for Sarah or any other conservative in the race , though.

cookboy, December 7, 2009 7:20 PM

I take it you're not a woman. It's all in the details!

MarkRNY, December 7, 2009 7:21 PM

Agreed. That's how all polls should be done now. Party affiliation among "Republicans" especially is increasingly meaningless until the Party is taken back. Conservatives are the disaffected ones. I'm an "Independent" but would cut my arm off before voting for a Dem. I suspect that staying with a Party line model tilts polls in the Dems favor and they know it.

One thing that bodes very well for the Republican Party is that I notice all Repub Primary candidates are scrambling for the mantle of "Conservative". Fiorina (sp) and the other Repub going after Boxer in CA. are both trying to claim that they're the true conservative--and that's in CA!

It boads REALLY well for Lady Sarah too. No one can dispute with a straight face who the conservative in that group is. The others each have at least one fatal flaw that's going to loom large as 12 nears (and the country tanks).

juju, December 7, 2009 7:25 PM

hrh, thanks for the link.

Some talking head with the DNC is quoted.....

"While Palin's supporters are excited about her Minnesota appearance, Frank Benenati with the Democratic National Committee said Palin is out of touch with most voters.
"While there may be long lines at some places on her book tour, including the Mall of America there, her ideals and what she represents are far from what mainstream Americans want in a political leader," he said. "

Seriously....is this guy on glue or something? Obviously HE has no clue what "mainstream Americans" want in a leader........geeeeez

MsLiberty, December 7, 2009 7:40 PM

There's a lot of crazy crap going on today -- I hope we hear from Sarah on this asinine EPA ruling stating that CO2 is a pollutant that needs to be regulated, as well as the outrageous decision to cut Medicare funding for home health in order to help pay for ObamaCare.

Uffda, December 7, 2009 7:40 PM

He might be Dan Fagan on the oild and gas issues, having no understanding of the uniquness of Alaska's constitution. Many hard-line conservatives don't understand that part.

Or maybe he means that she had to support the TARP bailout while running with John McCain. I've heard some on Fox Business say they blanket will never support her because of that. Come on, dudes, she was his runningmate, what was she supposed to do?

Uffda, December 7, 2009 7:41 PM

I'm not worried about her in the least. You'd have to got through a couple phalanxes of guardian angels to get to her, in my humble opinion.

Uffda, December 7, 2009 7:42 PM

I love how they say Palin is their number 1 fundraiser. Proof positive that the Dems and libs view her as the Number 1 threat.

militantfeather, December 7, 2009 7:43 PM

Just read in link that Palin is being paid to attend fund-raiser? Paid? Maybe, SARAHPAC is receiving some proceeds, which is fine.

RINO-Hunter, December 7, 2009 7:44 PM

That's good to hear, Andrew.

Remember everybody, there are millions of us. There's only one of her. Keep that in mind if you see anything fishy going on anywhere near her.

Uffda, December 7, 2009 7:47 PM

She's in total fundraising mode right now, which she's going to have to be if she's going to have any weight in the 2010 elections, not to mention 2012.

Money, unfortunately, will get the attention of those in power before anything else.

terri, December 7, 2009 7:53 PM

And she hates it like hell (which makes me like her more). Poor Sarah.

juju, December 7, 2009 8:00 PM

The thing I never understand in polls and maybe someone can explain it to me is this: She has 80% favorable among Reps. and only 41% favorable among women. How is that possible? Do they just poll men Reps??? Are all the women
Dems???

Uffda, December 7, 2009 8:03 PM

I AM GOING TO LOSE MY MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RINO-Hunter, December 7, 2009 8:11 PM

I know Uffda,

I'm just sayin' that if somebody pulls a weapon, take them down and don't wait for security to act. I'm sure her people are good and very dedicated, but they don't have the resources the Secret Service has. Also, I suspect much of the security at these events are hired locals (off-duty cops and the like) who don't share our loyalty to her and might not take a bullet for her like most of us would.

Izzy, December 7, 2009 8:11 PM

Bill O'reilly talks about Sarah Palin and the third party...was a positive piece for Sarah.

Please Sheya, can we get the vid?

CruelaDev, December 7, 2009 8:11 PM

Me thinks Sarah will be flying in for the Colorado Springs event.. I think driving in on the bus ain't going to a wise decision.... We really don't have much snow.. it is just very cold and the roads are pure ice! I feel sorry for the bus driver.. I-70 and I-25 is going to suck for him! Good Luck with that!

juju, December 7, 2009 8:12 PM

I think that will happen when people find out where it is. If I were you I would order it immediately.

jimr3, December 7, 2009 8:13 PM

I didn't like Bill pushing Sarah and the third party crap so heavily during that segment. The third party meme is a disaster. Sarah wants to get the GOP back to its Reagan roots.

MarkRNY, December 7, 2009 8:14 PM

Yeah, with Newt. I tuned it off. O'Reilly is showing his dumbass side when he talks about Sarah and a 3rd Party--especially with one of her potential GOP rivals. I still don't think he quite gets Sarah. "Does she have the frame of reference?". She ran a state O'Reilly! You come from Entertainment Tonight! Does Mitten, T'Paw or Huck have the "frame of reference"?

The Repub Party is scrambling to the right and the Conservative Movement is hers! She doesn't need a 3rd Party Einstein.

jimr3, December 7, 2009 8:15 PM

It was if Bill was trying to encourage Sarah to go third party - not good.

Thank you jimr3!!

juju, December 7, 2009 8:18 PM

BOR just wants to do a tease type thing to get reactions. I think Newt defended Sarah very well and said no way for 3rd party. Sarah is going to be strong, very strong among the Tea Party folks and there are a lot of independents among them. Her being the Keynote speaker at that convention of the tea party people will do great things for her.

Uffda, December 7, 2009 8:19 PM

Freeper Libloather who read that line in the Free Republic thread about that DUmmie FUnnies edition then passed it along to Sarah Palin herself as he explained what happened:
I just got back from meeting Sarah Palin in Roanoke. The couple in front of me were getting things signed and no one was saying a thing. I leaned over the end of the table and said, "Joe Biden has a book coming out soon." Sarah stopped writing and looked up at me. I then said, "It's called "Going Rogaine."
She CRACKED up laughing! I think her father, who was sitting next to her, enjoyed it too. She belts out, "That's the funniest thing I've heard all day!" She also mentioned that she's going to steal that one and make it appear as if she made it up on her own.

the buttons are weird on the QVC web site. I like Amazon's better.

Andrew, December 7, 2009 8:26 PM

At least one person had a problem with the event.

Jeremy Paul Olson, who Bloomington police identified as "a local man with no permanent address" and whose age was not immediately released, threw a tomato toward Palin from a second floor rotunda about 2 p.m.

The tomato missed Palin by about 10 feet — and instead splattered a Bloomington police commander in charge of the security detail, in the eye. Another officer was also struck by the pulpy shrapnel.

Olson was booked into Bloomington jail on two charges: disorderly conduct, and assaulting a police officer.

CruelaDev, December 7, 2009 8:27 PM

Nah...For me.. it is just another day...Hell I lived in Steamboat Springs, CO ...we were lucky to see pavement 3-4 months out of the year. My boss yelled at me today because I was in by 8:00am when we should have had a 2 hour delay...we go by the Military Standards of delays.. If they delay.. we delay! But that would be embarrassing for me...having lived in Steamboat..Bunch of candy asses if you ask me! We get an inch of snow anymore and everyone freaks. I remember walking to school in blinding snowstorms. It took at least 8 or more inches before they would even consider a snow day.

Crap.. believe it or not.. they will actually decide now to close schools the night before a snowstorm ...before the snow is even here! Last year they closed all the schools and the next day...
it was 45 degrees and NO SNOW in sight!

Andrew, December 7, 2009 8:28 PM

Here is a report on the guy who threw tomatoes at the Governor, along with a mug shot.

Recovering Democrat, December 7, 2009 8:29 PM

I wrote him a nasty note a couple weeks ago to lay off the race issue. People can't help what skin color they are. Then I reminded him that there are probably very few people of color watching his show, and there are NO black personalities on MSNBC.

He IS a racist ... completely. He is what's wrong with this country, judging everything based on skin color.

Bill in Baltimore, December 7, 2009 8:30 PM

and he didn't get thrown off to the first floor ?

techno, December 7, 2009 8:32 PM

juju:

In the most recent PPP poll in November they showed Palin's F/UF among women to be 42/48; in October it was 32/54. That's an increase of 16 points in one month. In addition they showed in a head to head matchup with Obama, Obama would only beat Palin 51% to 45%. In the recent Rasmussen poll it showed Obama 48 to 38 over Palin. And in the ABC/WAPO poll released aroung the middle of November although it showed Palin's overall F/UF to be 39/57 among all women, it showed among white women to be 45/51 and white suburban women to be 50/46 and among Republican women 78/20. The middle group is very important: it is made up of soccer moms and security moms. juju, these numbers are not terrible.

section9, December 7, 2009 8:35 PM

Yes, paid. Sarah Palin is what is called a "rainmaker" in this business. Were it not for her presence, the Minnesota conservative group that is sponsoring the event would not have had 1/2 the turnout of high rollers for a meet n' greet and a sit down with Sarah and Michelle Bachmann that they otherwise will have with her in the room. SarahPAC gets a finder's fee (maybe, oh, 25% of the cut), Bachmann and the Minnesota group get the other 75%.

Believe me, everybody's happy. Republicans are rolling in dough right now. And Sarah will probably give out some precious Go Back commitments for 2010 tonight for Bachmann and some downticket State Legislative races in MN. The DFL is on its last legs in a normally Dem state.

As I wrote in an earlier post, Minnesota, like Michigan, is central to Palin's "Midwest" attack plan in 2012.

Uffda, December 7, 2009 8:36 PM

I was reading through McLeod's latest email capture a couple days ago, and it struck me once again how badly the McCain campaign screwed Sarah over. They surprised the media, good for them. They then went on to drop the ball completely. Nobody beyond the vetters knew anything about her. They allowed the media to create the narrative, to dredge the underground for their information, to create these false stories that exist to this day.

Palin's staff knew the truth, they wrote stuff refuting many of these false narratives. The McCain people should have set up a press conference and outlined many of their points. They should have taken control of the narrative right away. Because they didn't, Palin has to deal with all this garbage now. Thanks McCainites.

Palin will not run Third Party. She basically promised Rush as weill as the responsible parties in the GOP that she would not do that. She despises Obama too much to give him that kind of Get Out of Jail Free Card.

section9, December 7, 2009 8:37 PM

This is just the media making trouble for the GOP, and BOR and Beck pimping their ratings.

I actually wrote a speech that McCain should have given on the day that Sarah was unveiled on August 29th. Instead McCain scheduled a joint interview with Palin with People Magazine if you remember. Absolutely insane strategy.

Uffda, December 7, 2009 8:45 PM

Love the " I remember walking to school in blinding snowstorms. It took at least 8 or more inches before they would even consider a snow day."
Reminded me of my junior high days. :-)

RINO-Hunter, December 7, 2009 8:49 PM

Techno,

There was a more recent poll, I think it was Ras, that had her at 46/43 in a head-to-head matchup against Teh One.

Santorum hosts Bill Bennett's show on Fridays when he isn't there. Bill Bennett hasn't said much that lends me to think he supports Palin. The GOP is desperate folks....they are going to throw up any and all candidates before they realize they are going to lose their shirts if they don't. Sarah knows what she is doing. She is building power from the people and the more that come into the fold, the more pain the GOP is going to go through. Which is okay with me. Anybody read Erick Erickson's rip of the Georgia GOP who have a Lt Gov, a Speaker of the House and the head of the House Appropriations Committee in GA all caught with their pants down.

techno, December 7, 2009 8:57 PM

That was head to head. You are correct.

I was answering juju's queation about women voters.

MsLiberty, December 7, 2009 9:12 PM

MarkRNY, December 7, 2009 9:18 PM

Yeah, and I wish they'd drop it. O'Reilly doesn't realize it, but this is another tactic to marginalize her "She's a loose cannon", "Grudges to settle". "In it for herself", etc.

And you're right! She would never risk inflicting O on her country for another term. She's not made that way.

bassman, December 7, 2009 9:18 PM

Yes that is true. I was there and saw 2 tomatoes come down from the second level. Gov. Palin was unaware.

Andrew, December 7, 2009 9:19 PM

That's not the one. You want the tweed hat found here. Choose the olive color.

bassman, December 7, 2009 9:20 PM

I don't think it was that close. I was there, saw it come down. Sarah was unaware of it.

MsLiberty, December 7, 2009 9:21 PM

These people are certifiably insane. CO2 comprises such an infinitessimal part of the atmosphere, like less than 3% of all greenhouse gas combined, and of that three percent, a very, very tiny fraction is the result of man made activities. It is essential to maintaining the balance of life on this planet. Only a total moron would declare it a pollutant.

MarkRNY, December 7, 2009 9:21 PM

Thank you again Section9--exactly! (can you tell this 3rd Party stuff ticks me off yet??)

Brigadoon, December 7, 2009 9:22 PM

I can see the meme now -- Palin outsells clothing worn over Miz Obama :)-

You're looking at the wrong hat, Bill. The tweed hat, not the suede.

bassman, December 7, 2009 9:27 PM

There was at least one Wisconsinite at the Mall Of America today. I was in the parking lot at 3:45 AM and there were 50 cars there already. Before Gov. Palin signed my book I wrote at the top of the page: C4P and Team Sarah have Gov. Palin's back.- Ed Korthals. Whe Sarah signed my book she drew an arrow from her name to mine, and wrote Thank You under my name.

Bill in Baltimore, December 7, 2009 9:35 PM

Andrew, thanks a lot !

It's kind of hard to take her seriously...when her dog loves me so much!

juju, December 7, 2009 9:45 PM

That one...cutting home care just sets me wild. I have been very active in the Alzhiemers Assoc. because I have family members with the condition. That home care is what keeps many of the people at home. With the help of home nursing and care the other spouse or family members can care for their loved ones and don't have to put them in a much more expensive nursing home. This cut is like cutting off your nose off to save your face. The women cannot lift and help their male spouses for bathing, etc. and the home care takes care of all of these type of things. geezzz. I am going to some of the sites I blog on and ask them to contact their representative.

Awesome snow in Steamboat Springs, have gone skiing twice there.....awesome town!

Sarah 2012!

CruelaDev, December 7, 2009 10:03 PM

Steamboat was great...kind of rare...really. Wind was sort of rare...and when it snowed the flakes were huge and it piled up so fast! One year I had a tunnel from my front door to my truck. The roof sloped and it was a tunnel. When I worked for "Hotel Hell" or also known as the Sheraton Steamboat...we would grab the keys to the plow trucks and have a ball at about 3am. The property got plowed but no one had the guts to ask..."how?" I'm not telling!

Ceejay, December 7, 2009 10:05 PM

I am pleasantly surprised by the article on the NYT in their opinion section: "Sarah Is Coming To Town". The review of her memoir by Stanley Fish is very positive. Incredible. Sometimes the sun do shine in bad weather.

VIVA SARAH !

Uffda, December 7, 2009 10:32 PM

"When I walked into the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan last week, I headed straight for the bright young thing who wore an “Ask Me” button, and asked her to point me to the section of the store where I might find Sarah Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life.” She looked at me as if I had requested a copy of “Mein Kampf” signed in blood by the author, and directed me to the nearest Barnes and Noble, where, presumably, readers of dubious taste and sensibility could find what they wanted."

Uffda, December 7, 2009 10:35 PM

Resigning was a moral act for which she was responsible. The vice-presidential candidacy just happened to her; her account of it reads like an extended “what-I-did-on-my summer-and fall-vacation” essay. For many politicians, family life is sandwiched in between long hours in public service. Palin wants us to know that for her it is the reverse. Political success is an accident that says nothing about you. Success as a wife, mother and citizen says everything.
Do I believe any of this? It doesn’t matter. What matters is that she does, and that her readers feel they are hearing an authentic voice. I find the voice undeniably authentic (yes, I know the book was written “with the help” of Lynn Vincent, but many books, including my most recent one, are put together by an editor).

Uffda, December 7, 2009 10:36 PM

The message is clear. America can’t be stopped. I can’t be stopped. I’ve stumbled and fallen, but I always get up and run again. Her political opponents, especially those who dismissed Ronald Reagan before he was elected, should take note. Wherever you are, you better watch out. Sarah Palin is coming to town.

Missed the entire tomatore throwing incident, but I got to meet the governor. They did stop at one point and Todd and Sarah changed spots, maybe that is why. I was part of the first group of people that showed up before dawn.

I just got home. I live about 6 hours away.

Thanks. Just concerned whether she was being personally paid - the scum also wrote about her $100k speakers fees in the article.

techno, December 8, 2009 8:09 AM

Here is my take on what Sarah Palin should say to explain why she resigned from office (assuming she has time to answer the question fully)

Q: Governor, why did you resign as governor?

A: After returning from the presidential campaign trail at the end of 2009, I fully expected to serve out my full term of office but after two or three months I began to slowly realize that I would have a difficult time doing so. The opposition researchers who had been flown in by the Obama team and the Democrats during the campaign had formed an alliance with Left-wing operatives and bloggers in Alaska and had decided to mount a vicious, insidious and bogus campaign against me in an effort to marginalize me or take me down politically by filing a series of frivolous ethical complaints that consumed much of our time in the executive branch and prevented the normal operations of government from proceeding. In addition to costing the state of Alaska millions of dollars and putting my administration in a bad light, due to prior legislation, I was essentially left out on a limb to personally combat these baseless allegations on my own, as no state funds or state legal help would be forthcoming to legally help me to fight these ridiculous charges, the costs mounting eventually by July to a half a million dollars and again out of my own pocket. As I was not a wealthy woman these costs threatened to bankrupt me and my family. Nobody seeks higher office to go broke or to face financial ruin. I was forced to set up a legal defense fund to help me to defray the costs and that was even legally challenged. It was soon obvious that these nefarious forces would never stop filing frivolous complaints against me if I had served out my full term, which by the way have all been proven to be without merit, that their singular goal was to politically destroy me and my family through sending us to the poor house and paralying state business that would eventually make me look whiny, incompetent, or make it appear I was neglecting my duties as governor. This was an orchestrated political witch hunt to the nth degree.

With my family I carefully weighed the options and came to conclusion-let me offer an analogy-you are in no man's land and pinned down in your foxhole by enemy fire from all different directions and have been for several hours. Although you have enough supplies to survive and the firepower to keep the enemy at bay you realize that eventually you are going to run out of bullets and food and water. You know that you have to find a way to extricate yourself from the foxhole without being noticed or your position will soon be overrun and you will be dead. So you wait until it gets dark, and then elude the enemy under the cover of darkness. But at no time while you are escaping do you think about not getting back to the battlefield as soon as possible.

You escape with your life intact but you have not abandoned your post, you have not deserted in the face of the enemy, you have not quit but instead you start to mentally prepare for your next opportunity to re-engage the enemy on the battlefield, even if circumstances have dictated that you must do so in a different venue or in a different arena.

And that is what I am doing now-taking the fight for Alaska and America, to preserve the ideals and principles that made our country great. to a different venue, to a new arena, the lower 48. I am as politically active as I ever was, except now I am doing it as a private citizen rather than a person with a title after their name.

To those who say I was a quitter-Sean Parnell is doing an excellent job as governor, he has not had one ethic complaint filed against him, and he [...]
