Minnesota event: It was a thrill!

I went to yesterday’s book signing at the Mall of America in Minnesota.

We had a great time! We only get about 5-15 seconds to speak with the Governor; still, it was truly an event I will remember for a long time.

Not only was speaking with the Governor a thrill, but the entire experience was incredible.

Let me start first by telling you about my experience with the Governor. My pictures did not turn out well, but there are better pictures all over the internet. The following picture really captures the experience.

When I finally made it to the front of the line, I waited for a few moments as my friend and her six year old daughter spoke for a moment. She asked my little friend Elinor what her name was, how old she was and what grade she was in and so on. She then turned to my friend and thanked her for bringing her daughter. Elinor literally floated out of there. Elinor said, "She talked to me for a long time!".

My turn. What you see in the picture is precisely what happened. The Governor leans towards you and clasps your hand as if you are a friend she has not seen for a while. She asked me my name and I told her and added that I was with C4P.

The brightest grin came over her face. “I love that website!” I then handed her a bumper sticker and one of my business cards. She and Todd both laughed at the bumper sticker and said “This is great”. The bumper sticker said “Hot Chicks vote Republican”.

She then glanced at my business card and said “Hey you are on the city council, so was I. Keep it up.” As I turned towards Todd, the Governor set her pen down and reached to shake my hand again with her right hand. She said, “You guys are doing great work at the website. Thank you so much and keep it going”. I told her that we will.

Like little Elinor, I floated away from the table myself. I was happy that I was not as tongue-tied as I was the first time I met her, shortly after she was nominated.

As exciting as it was to meet the Governor, I was equally as excited hanging in line and meeting the wonderful people surrounding me. Supporters of Governor Palin are wonderful and unique people. Hanging out in line for an hour and half when the wind chill is below zero, you find yourself clustering together for warmth and you get to know the people around you pretty quickly. We were in line for about seven hours. The first hour and half was in the bitter cold 5:00am before they lead us in the doors.

I met a woman named Diane and her friends, also from Wisconsin. As I stood in line chatting up C4P, she heard me and said that she read our site. Diane had her video camera with her and took lots of footage. Last night Diane emailed me one of her videos and a link to the others. Here is the link. It is great to meet people from the other side of Wisconsin. We are on the same political team and we are looking to replace a very liberal governor. See Diane's videos, TrempGOP.

I also had the opportunity to meet these three special people. Rachel, Jeff and Josh are all from the Minneapolis area.

What a wild group of people. Apparently Rachel knew some of the folks at the local conservative talk radio show and did an interview while we were standing in line. She is very funny and so easy to talk to. Put some glasses on Rachel and she looks very much like the Governor.

Josh is an Iraq war veteran who was badly injured in 2006. For several hours in line we heard about his story and incidents in Iraq. He was in Iraq for a year and a half during the worst moments of the Iraq war for 18 months in 2003 to 2004. He then went back to Iraq in 2006. Josh’s very closest friend was killed in Iraq. After Josh’s severe injuries, he came home and began to write songs dedicated to those lost during the war. Josh has sung at some of the memorial services.

A couple of weeks ago, Josh was on the Mike Huckabee show to honor those that have fallen. As we were standing in line, Josh emailed me the links to his interview with Mike Huckabee and the song that he wrote and sang on the Huckabee show.

I was so touched by Josh’s story; I felt it was necessary to share the videos with you. Stop for a moment and remember the soldiers that will not be with their families again at this holiday season. They paid the ultimate price; they gave their lives for you and me and our freedom.

Interview with Josh Revak:

Empty Boots:

Jeff was Josh’s sidekick pushing Josh to get a copy of the CD for us and the Governor as we stood in line. Josh finally called his wife and she drove over with their beautiful little girls just to bring copies of Josh’s CD.

As we stood in line for hours, we continuously pushed Josh into giving the Governor a copy of CD. When it was finally our turn, Josh did spend a moment with the Governor and he did actually give her a copy of the CD. He mentioned to the Governor that he was on Mike Huckabee’s show a couple of weeks ago and she said she saw the program. Josh was touched, and it looked like the Governor was touched also.

Help Josh out at this website.

You can purchase the CD or some of the songs at Josh and Jeff's website, The21Gun.com. Josh plans on continuing to carry the message of his fellow soldiers out to the rest of the world, giving all of us to grieve for those men and woman that have made the ultimate sacrifice.

As far as the tomato thrower, we never saw it happen. Although, everything came to a dead stop at one point and only for a few minutes. Perhaps it happened then.

Also, most of us did not see the trip up the stairs that the Governor tweeted about. At the beginning of the event as the Governor came in, the media were all standing on risers a couple a rows from the front blocking the view of 99% of us.

All in all, this day is a day I will not soon forget. It was worth the drive to meet the Governor and the other great Americans standing in line sharing this moment.

Great Report K. Carpenter!  I almost felt I was there!  First one here on a post for the first time yes!

JohnDoeAt30Below,  December 8, 2009 5:47 PM

I noticed that the tomato thrower is Jeremy Olson - there is a writer who has had some articles printed in the St. Paul Pioneer Press with the same name. Not sure if it is the same guy but he has done some pro-Obama, pro-HCR stuff in the past.

PatrickinOH,  December 8, 2009 5:52 PM

do you have a link?

JohnDoeAt30Below,  December 8, 2009 6:03 PM

Here's one Jeremy Olson article that was reprinted:

http://www.winonadailynews.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/article_4db4c584-aca9-11de-838a-001cc4c03286.html

He wrote another on 9/12/09 titled: 'Minnesota to Obama: Reward Quality Care' but for some reason, that link no longer works. Here's the first portion of it:

http://www.twincities.com/politics/ci_13321394

Minnesota health care leaders are hoping President Barack Obama will take a stand today in Minneapolis on an issue that didn't come up in his speech this week to Congress -- a medical payment system that penalizes doctors and hospitals for efficient care. Dr. Noel Peterson said it would seem appropriate for Obama to focus on the payment issue at today's health care rally at the Target Center. Minnesota has some of the most efficient doctors and hospitals, he said, and...

Wonderful write-up!  Thank you for all the details.

thanks for the links John

KC:

Thanks for the re-cap.

Love that Governor always lights up when C4P is mentioned.

P.S.  As a fellow Wisconsinite, Doyle cannot leave soon enough.  I actually hoped and prayed that Obama would have offered him a job 10 months ago.

manajordan,  December 8, 2009 6:11 PM

Great write-up, thanks so much. I enjoyed the videos you linked as well.

Denise J,  December 8, 2009 6:36 PM

The write-up is really really appreciated.

It makes me feel apart of the excitment. That picture of the Governor is absolutely breathtaking. Can't wait until she is greeting the American people from the WH during Christmas December, 2013.

Thanks also for sharing about Josh. May God help and protect all of the soldiers. May we never forget their sacrifice for this great country.

Whitney,  December 8, 2009 6:40 PM

KC-Thanks for sharing your story! :) That's awesome that you are on the city council!

MarkRNY,  December 8, 2009 7:12 PM

Great KC. She probably recognized a kindred spirit when you told her you're on the city council! Sounds like her supporters make standing in line fun.

I read your interest in Josh's interview and the video. If that video, interview or other audio content is such that you would like the written transcript thereof, well -- I do that. You can see more at the website VerbatimIT dot com or email me from that site.

In the public accessibility interest,

Yours truly,

Copenhagen's Political Science, by Sarah Palin

Deidre,  December 8, 2009 7:37 PM

LOL!!!  I was just going to post this :)  Way to go :)

bassman,  December 8, 2009 7:37 PM

I saw your sign KC. I was with the first 20 people in line. The woman behind me had a C4P sweatshirt on. We were together for 7 hours waiting so we had a lot to talk about. Gov. Palin signed 2 books for me. I paperclipped a note at the top of one book that read "this is for my Mom" When Todd saw it he asked her name, and Sarah pesonalized it for her. The second book I wrote at the top of the page " C4P and Team Sarah have Gov. Palin's back. Ed Korthals. Sarah drew a arrow that connected the S in Sarah and pointed to my first name. Under it she wrote Thank You. We had a awesome moment. I may post the intire day at Team Sarah. I saw the tomato come down, and I confronted a Liberal blogger outside trying to make us look bad. I have a story to tell.

M. Minnesota,  December 8, 2009 7:43 PM

Thanks Karen for the wonderful post pictures and links!!

And now for the follwing, the  Myron a.k.a  M. Minnesota  Mall of America "Going Rouge" Report.

IT WAS BEYOND A THRILL!!

I was with another C4P'er (Nicole) camping out in our cars.  The Mall of America laid down the rules no line ups until 5.am.   Because the Mall is private property, they have the authority to detain you and arrest you if you do not follow the rules for thier property which means that even if you are in thier parking lot they can do the above.  We waited in a car in an ajacent non- Mall of America parking lot.  Mall of America Security came over to us around 4:20 a.m. and told us to drive around to the front of the Mall and park by IKEA.  The idea was to have all of the cars that came early to be parked in one place and have us all be "Driven into the Mall" by security at 10 or 5 minutes before 5.

As the time drew closer the cars and people were buzzing around the Mall of America faster and faster. Security told us to "Stand Down" even as we all saw HORDES of people rushing to the designated line up place. Try to imagine how we felt!! LOL  Anyway, Nicole did her masterful driving following security which was at a fast clip. Another driver not a part of the line almost smashed into us!!

Cut to the few seconds I had with the Palins. I said "Thank you for running the race with Christ". She said "I agree"  She gave the same attention as much as she could to over 2,000 people!!!  The Mall was estimating and preparing for  2,500.  IT Look Like all of the Books WERE SOLD AND SHE SIGNED and she GREEETED EVERY ONE WITH AN EFFORT and knowing that each individual counts!! I cringed when even KTLK FM (A RUSH, Hannity, station) was reporting "hundreds" of people.  The Pioneer Press (leans to the left) got it more right when theyn said 2,000.  It was much more than that! From 11:40 a.m to 3:35p.m. without a stop every 10 seconds!!!   She sleeps the "Sleep of the Just".

After I said goodbye to some of my Palinista friends, I decided to go Back to the Mall. I met up with other Palinistas.  During that period, I was on the second floor of the Routunda. You could look down at  the Palin's.   I was standing quater circle I could see security scuffle with a man who had just thrown a tomato at the stage. He missed. As soon as he was winding up for the second "fruit" that's when authorities nabbed him.  People we have to pray for the Security of Sarah!!!!!  I cannot emphasize that enough!!! I shudder to think what that man could have done if it was something else.  If Palin does come back to the Mall of America, I would recommend a bulletproof plexiglass that people could still take pictures. (does that exist?)
But keep the same set up lines ect.

Later that afternoon, I had the gracious privelige to meet Sarah's Parents!!!   They were just walking around enjoying the event. They are as nice as Sarah!!   Truly they are humble wonderful people!!  I was fortunate enough to have my picture taken with them!!  I will try and post the pic here asap.  At the very end, Sarah and Todd took a group picuture wth all of the staff at the event.  As Sarah stepped down, she did take a tumble and fall which freaked us out for a couple of seconds!!  She was able to walk it off even though it didn't look like a "lucky fall" where you just miss everything and nothing is hurt.  She went to a Minnesota fundraiser dinner in the same city Bloomington.

Emily (Jane Austen),  December 8, 2009 7:43 PM

Thanks for your experience KC! I'm  sooooooooooo jealous!
Did you ask whether she read our comments? ;) That is the big question...

Deidre,  December 8, 2009 7:45 PM

Would love to see how it went with the blogger!

yogi41,  December 8, 2009 7:46 PM

K, that was a fantastic report. Thank you very much for all of the detail. I'm thrilled for you and everyone else who got to meet her.

bassman,  December 8, 2009 7:51 PM

We stood outside, temps in the teens for over a hour before we were let in. All the local media were there doing "life shots" then this guy with a small video camera starts asking leading questions. I interupted a interview with someone in front of me. I said we are here for the issues she stands for. Lower taxes, smaller gov't, etc. I went on to talk about her attacks she indures, mentioning the photoshopped picture of Trig. He knew the name of the woman blogger that posted it. That ended it for me. I saw him for who he is. I ended our interview. He started talking to the people behind me. I stepped in and told them they should not be  talking with this guy. He disappeared.

Whitney,  December 8, 2009 7:52 PM

It was an excellent, intelligent piece for such an bimbo! ;)

PatrickinOH,  December 8, 2009 7:59 PM

great op ed, where is mittens, huckleberry, T-paw on this one? MIA again big surprise

terri,  December 8, 2009 8:06 PM

Regarding the oped piece....for those who think that Sarah doesn't write her stuff...FORGET IT.
It obvious that Sarah writes her own stuff cuz.....who else says "clobbered" in an oped piece?
Also, it sure reads like a presidential candidate piece, rather than just an opinion piece to me.

cookboy,  December 8, 2009 8:11 PM

A really really big deal! Call and write your reps and senators! EPA is making laws that will COST YOU AND ME BIG TIME. A well written op-ed with which we happen to agree is of no value without many many audible voices behing it. This is no joke people.

gelston the knowitall,  December 8, 2009 8:43 PM

great report. I enjoy your writing.

gelston the knowitall,  December 8, 2009 8:46 PM

Excellent KC!!...Thank you!

A,  December 8, 2009 10:00 PM

I mentioned a man in Tempe. Solo, with video camera. People loved talking to the camera as if it was friendly. He loved leading them to issues that I won't mention. They were happy to do it. He can edit it to call them bad names. They thought they were explaining, as if to a friend.

Expect the worst.

Fairly tall man. Big camera - professional size.

I suspect that he has been at several events.

CharterOakie,  December 8, 2009 10:22 PM

Thanks KC and others for sharing!  Helps the rest of us experience these events vicariously.

God bless and protect Sarah, her family and all those around her.

Tom_Ohio,  December 8, 2009 10:39 PM

Thank you, Mr's Carpenter, I wanted to go to an event in Ohio or one of the Pennsylvania ones but life conspired to not let it be so.
Your report and other reports here are so wonderful to those of us who could not make it this time (but we plan to get to future events and even will drag our spouses along)
I also wanted to thank you, and all the contributors to this site for making it such a great place to get news about our favorite Governor and other important issues.
Many thanks, indeed.
Tom

I am on this video at 2:30. I thought this guy was a liberal blogger. I was wrong.

M. Minnesota,  December 9, 2009 12:17 AM

Attached is a video of the the Tomato thrower.  It really is chilling in a sense what could have happened.  Any love and compassion from the lame stream media? (Crickets)   Can You Imagine if it was Obama on the Mall of America Stage at close range?
