Palin in Idaho Open Thread (Updated with Crying from the Far-Left) (Palin on Conan Tonight)

Longtime C4P and Palin4VP veteran Manajordan was at the Coeur d'Alene book signing. You can read her review of the event in the comments section of this thread. The Spokesman-Review review of the signing is here.

This picture is a pretty cool one from the Sandpoint book signing. The Washington Post and Bonner-County Daily Bee (the local Sandpoint newspaper) also have write-ups of Governor Palin's final book signing in the Lower 48. There are also lots of pictures from the most recent book signings on Governor Palin's Facebook page.

We'll update if more news becomes available. Until then, you know the drill. What's going on tonight?

Update: Cue up the banjos for Josh Marshall from Talking Points Memo.

Liberal Greg Sargent is quite horrified that Governor Palin's op-ed in the Washington Post is one of the most read Washington Post opinion pieces of the year. Marc Ambinder is in tears as well.

Update #2: Governor Palin will reportedly appear on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien tonight. We'll have a Conan open thread in a couple of hours. If you don't want to find out what happened prior to seeing the show yourself, just avoid the upcoming Conan thread.

GA,
That was hilarious! Thank you!
Those protesters seem to have the same fortitude, as The Once.

OK Tommy, I'll bite....

What's so cool about this picture??

Terri,

You don't think 'Cuda rocking a Vandals sweatshirt is a cool pic?  C'monnnnnn....

Tommy Report,  December 11, 2009 7:19 PM

By the way, the Washington Post write-up is somewhat hilarious (though fair for the most part)

How was the fanfare "modest" if 10% of the total town's population showed up to get their books signed?

terri,  December 11, 2009 7:22 PM

"the Once"...ha ha

GAHanson,  December 11, 2009 7:23 PM

Interesting to note that the WaPo article about her Sand Point signing noted that a whole "half dozen" protesters showed up, a woman and her 2 kids, and I guess 3 other "adults."  Wow, how pathetic is that, a whole 4 adults and 2 kids.  The same thing happened in VA as well, a tiny handful of protesters who quickly left, I think there was 1 protester in Springfield MO.

When Organizing for America held their 9-13 demonstration, supposedly to counter the 9-12 protests, they drew all of 149 people, and that's after months of send out emails to millions of people on 0bama email list.

I guess that's the kind of turn out the dems get when they aren't either paying them to be there, or aren't attracting people with free rock concerts and food.

terri,  December 11, 2009 7:23 PM

Tommy,

I'm not ashamed to show my ignorance......what is a "Vandals" sweatshirt?

Tommy Report,  December 11, 2009 7:23 PM

University of Idaho, her alma mater.

terri,  December 11, 2009 7:25 PM

Thanks Tommy, **she says sheepishly**   ;-)

GAHanson,  December 11, 2009 7:26 PM

It's sort of like when dems say, "oh, she only sold a million books, that means 299,000,000 didn't read it."  I always remind them that both of 0bama's books combined only sold 1.4 million in all the years they've been out, despite all the hype they got during the campaign.

10 percent of the total population is a huge turnout.  Has 10 percent of anywhere ever turned out for any other person in the gop, or even for that matter 0bama?

Nancy,  December 11, 2009 7:31 PM

I think "The Once" is a Tammy Bruce gem!:)

terri,  December 11, 2009 7:31 PM

Tommy, I swear....If  Sarah ever braves coming to the Chicago area...I'm gonna give her an OFFICIAL Chicago Cubbies sweatshirt.

Ya know, The Once (as Nancy calls him lol) and Mayor Daley and all the other Chicago cronies are all Chicago (I can barely stand to say the words) White sox fans. ewwwww

THAT would be perfect.

terri,  December 11, 2009 7:36 PM

GAH,

Obama probably had AT LEAST 10% of the Chicago population in Grant Park...more than once even ....:-(

Sarah Palin to Appear on ‘Tonight Show’ (It’s a Surprise)By <span>BILL CARTER</span>

<span>David Letterman</span> has been all but begging <span>Sarah Palin</span> to grace his couch with a visit, but it’s his competition, <span>Conan O’Brien</span>, being granted the favor of a drop-in from the former vice presidential candidate.
Ms. Palin is scheduled to make a surprise walk-on appearance with Mr. O’Brien on NBC’s “Tonight Show,” which is being taped later Friday evening in Los Angeles.

The following is a tweet from Sarah from earlier today....

<span>"Head out now 2 tape a media segment b4 heading 2 Alaska for 2 more book events.I'm honored 2 sign@Anchorage&Fairbanks military bases Sunday"</span>

Tommy Report,  December 11, 2009 7:41 PM

By the way, in that Insiders poll, four Democrat insiders said that Palin was the most impressive political figure of the year.

Nancy,  December 11, 2009 7:42 PM

The protester's "half dozen", is like Palin supporter's "hundreds".
The counting is something right out of Geithnermatics.

that's great!

conan makes fun of Madam 45, but never in the digusting sexist vile way that that pervert Letterman does.

Conan I think has interviewed her before when she was still the governor.

GO SARAH!!!!!!! you'll do great!

Lakerfanalways,  December 11, 2009 7:58 PM

Conan..YUCK, he is the same assclown that made that stupid joke about her being attacked by tomatoes and his idiot audience laughed at it and though it was hilarious. She should have gone on Leno, he is much more respectful and Rush went on his show and had a blast..so now we know why she was in LA

techno,  December 11, 2009 7:58 PM

There are two memes that the Democrats and the GOP establishment know they must reinforce about Palin to stop her from advancing to the primaries, winning the primaries and becoming POTUS. They are the "bimbo/hick/clueless" meme and the "quitter" meme.

Right now surprisingly the "quitter" meme is not gaining traction in the media. As one observer said on MSNBC recently, it should have hurt her more but her supporters don't seem to care that Palin resigned. What this observer was actually saying if you read between the lines was that Palin is one smart cookie to take the Going Rogue tour to places that would naturally gravitate to her natural, authentic, commonsense charm and not to the urban sewers where she would be spit on or tear her to shreds. Consolidate your base: don't look backward through the rearview mirror; surge ahead looking for new conquests. Deal with the "quitter" meme down the road.

So what is the Left and the Right left with: the myth created by the MSM during the 2008 campaign and exposed by Media Malpractice. And that myth is barely hanging by a thread.

Oh to be a Leftist or GOP operative and to probably have no hair left trying to figure out how to take Palin down.

Lakerfanalways,  December 11, 2009 8:00 PM

Ok so according to the Hollywood Reporter, its gonna be a skit, it was a surprise move, and she was hurried into the back door and all of the fans who were there were told to leave when they brought her in so they wouldnt know about it..its gonna be a skit, wanna bet they go after Letterman

an lifelong democrat-soon-2-B-independent,  December 11, 2009 8:01 PM

oh man, you're 100% correct, it was Leno I was thinking off.

BUT, Conon is the highest rated late night show now. I don't think Leno's show is doing that great, he's not on the late night lineup anymore. Sarah always thinks ahead.

Sarah will do great.  Conon has made fun of Sarah, but never in the demeaning sexist vile way that pervert on cBS has, Sarah will hold her own, and show that she is not whining and crying like the Chief-Marxist when people make fun of her.

She will rock, I have no doubt in my mind!  :)

terri,  December 11, 2009 8:07 PM

We all know why Sarah is going on this show.

So, she is going to go on Conan. I think it's cool. I've never watched The Tonight Show with him hosting. I'm sure she will do great.

Laura Ingraham's auction of Sarah's jacket is up to $35,000.

Any takers????

Dang, Terri that would take a big 'change pocket' to up the bid from there.

Can anyone spot me the difference?:)

How much will I get to see this jacket for my $.48 contribution?

CruelaDev,  December 11, 2009 8:31 PM

You can catch the podcast later at kbyr.com.. cause I did not hear the whole thing either. ...The Bob and Mark interview was pretty good.  Her voice needs rest..but the overall interview was good.

From The Tonight Show website: Ladies and Gents: Tonight's show is going to be amazing. I know I say that EVERY night, but tonight I mean it... Because we've got a very very special guest showing up tonight! Who is it, you ask!? I can't say! Not even the majority of our staff will know who it is until our mystery guest arrives this afternoon. No joke! This is top secret stuff!! However, because you guys are awesome, and I love you all... We'll be posting an early clip of their appearance tonight right here on our site!! Keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook for an announcement of when the clip is up!

Leftists are just so freaky, don;t they ever look in the mirror?  Do they think their comments are witty?  Thouightful?  accurate?  Worthy of even reading?   I laugh at them, as should all of us.  Let's just laugh in their faces.  LOL

Sarah is a smart woman, she knows that the looney left will never support her but the Independent voters, who watch her and see her as the wonderful person we all see her as, they wil be more willing to vote for her. Actually, Laker ... I heard the joke, and it was equally, if not more, joking about MSNBC. Didn't Conan say that the tomato thrower was immediately offered his own talk show on MSNBC?

I find it hilarious that as the book tour wraps, Sarah has graced every single major network now except CBS (well, and CNN). I think it's great she's going on Conan rather than Jay.

Sarah needs to continue burnishing her image as "cool, hip" ... which she is doing with her FB and Twitters. Going on Conan shows she's a younger generation.

Well, Barbara Walters and Oprah are both ABC.

So, the only major network she shunned was CBS.

Good for her!

Plus, somebody (forgot who) said awhile back that the ultimate revenge for Sarah would be going on Conan (opposite David Letterman) and giving him a huge ratings boost. She has told two separate interviewers that she wouldn't want to appear on Letterman because she didn't want to boost his ratings. So this is gonna be sweet, sweet!

There is...in the works... an additional book signing for Alaskans...it just has not been scheduled yet.

<span>"U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie will resign his seat in Congress so he can campaign full time in the Democratic primary for governor."</span>

<span>
<p>"A special election could be complicated.
</p><p>The state Office of Elections is understaffed and struggling to function after state budget cuts. Legal challenges have also left the state with no voting machines.
</p><p>Candidates who previously thought they had months to build their campaigns may now just have several weeks, depending on when a special election is called. Unlike a primary, which involves candidates from a single political party, a special election would be winner-take-all and would include candidates from all political parties."
</p></span>
"<span>Former congressman Ed Case, state Senate President Colleen Hanabusa and Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou, who previously announced that they would run to replace Abercrombie in Congress, all said today that they will run in the special election."</span>

the hannity show is really good tonight about KSM being on trial in a civilian court

A,  December 11, 2009 9:29 PM

Did you think she has a day with no events?

Not our Sarah.

Although she may have an easy day tonight/tomorrow. Only a 10 or so hour flight.

Back to work Sunday.

GAHanson,  December 11, 2009 9:31 PM

Be sure to read Greg Sargent's moan about how Gov. Palin's climategate op/ed was the 20th most read op/ed of the year for the WaPo.  Also, be sure to read the comments section, typical libs crying about global warming, but then there is a real surge of pro-Palin comments, and then the libs whine and cry about the pro-Palin comments.  Actually, quite entertaining.

Have never watched Conan, but I'll watch tonight for sure.  Hope he gets as big a boost in his ratings as 0prah did, and leaves Letterboy in the dust.

A,  December 11, 2009 9:32 PM

It must be Rich brand, petite size.

PatrickinOH,  December 11, 2009 9:33 PM

I am waiting until 11:30 PM here to watch Conan I want the anticipation to build for me but I am hearing it is really good and shatner is there this will be a night to remember and Letterman probably crapped his pants when he heard the news

A,  December 11, 2009 9:34 PM

David will be playing with himself tonight. No audience.

Lakerfanalways,  December 11, 2009 9:35 PM

Wait, so is that video clip it..or is there more to come..Im hoping she was on even more tonight..the more the better

TSM Admin,  December 11, 2009 9:38 PM

Terrific?  The audience was wild and ecstatic!  It was like if the SARC sisters had Sarah show up unexpectedly at their local coffee!

TSM Admin,  December 11, 2009 9:40 PM

I would certainly expect her to do one in Wasilla!

juju,  December 11, 2009 9:41 PM

It's to her great advantage that they have been trying to take her down for over a year and she keeps on going.  Not much if any bad stuff left and anyone that wants to run against her will get vetted big time.

juju,  December 11, 2009 9:42 PM

Wonder if she is going to "play like she is Tina F."?  Wouldn't that be a blast!!!

juju,  December 11, 2009 9:44 PM

Part of that is just being caught up in the moment.  I have been to shows where I laughed right along with everyone else and the next day I wish I hadn't laughed.

juju,  December 11, 2009 9:45 PM

Wonder if they provided her a private Jet to LA and then Ak???

PatrickinOH,  December 11, 2009 9:47 PM

Just finished Going Rogue this afternoon The Way Forward was an amazing chapter, even though it is only 13 pages I think it is the best part of the book I feel like she is saying what I have always thought it is true when I say that Sarah is us and we are Sarah

OldDude,  December 11, 2009 9:48 PM

I loved the audience response...wild, enthusiastic, and definitely loud...couldn't have asked for more...maybe she's the chink in the armor of the Left Coast!

A,  December 11, 2009 9:49 PM

It was an example of the Katie C interview.  Take lots of video. Cut and paste. Chang the effect.

It is a wonderful example of that technique, and why it should not be used for "news."

A,  December 11, 2009 9:52 PM

No. No publicity for Letterman. Sarah's way is much better.

A,  December 11, 2009 9:58 PM

Sarah did not have dinner with me, so Sarah must have been with that lady.

A,  December 11, 2009 10:07 PM

id.

"<span>Jonah Ka'auwai, the state GOP chairman, described Abercrombie's decision as a "desperate move."</span>
<span>
<p>"Abercrombie's resignation is simply a desperate move by the Democrat Party to steal the election from the frontrunner Charles Djou," he said in a statement.
</p><p>"Today, Furlough Friday, children are at home because of our failed Democrat-dominated politics.  Yet Rep. Neil Abercrombie is going to force a special election and waste millions of dollars for what can only be described as his own personal political greed.  How can someone who wants to hold the state's highest office possibly believe this is right for the state of Hawaii?""

I really thought that Gov. Palin would go on the Tammy Bruce show...

KeeleyH,  December 11, 2009 10:37 PM

As a matter of fact, yes, I gave up TV news and all TV along with it. It seems that C4P is my only link to the rest of the world now! LOL.

johnmd,  December 11, 2009 10:47 PM

I guess she has flown home on  a commerical flight . ugt750 is headed east.

KentonAK,  December 11, 2009 11:47 PM

TSM Admin- Either at Wasilla's Walmart...Or at the Valley Republicans Women Club. Sarah's folks belong to it. Our family does too.

(See my avartar:Its Sarah speech at the Valley Republicans Women Club in March 2009...Sarah's Dad is also also in my photo.)
