The Racism Game - We're Not Playing

This morning Joshua blew a hole in the stupid suggestion that Governor Palin left Hawaii after just one semester because there were too many Asians there. Here the Left goes again, trying to depict the Governor as a racist in order to do what the Left always does: play the race card. The tactic is old, tired, and played out. It only shows how utterly desperate and despicable the anklebiters are, possessing no better game plan than to smear a patriot who has shown nothing but complete love and devotion to her country and its citizens--all of them.

To the Huffington Post, in response to your asinine question, "Did Sarah Palin leave Hawaii because there were too many Asians?" I have a couple questions for you:

1. Did you read the Governor's book? In it she tells why she left Hawaii. Pick up the bestseller and enjoy the read. It'll spare you the embarrassment of asking your agenda-laden question.

2. Are you so foolish as to think that the Governor was shocked when she got to Hawaii and found Asians there? Common sense should tell you that she knew when she left Alaska for Hawaii that she was going to...well, Hawaii. She knew, therefore, Asians resided there. That didn't stop her from going, so why would it drive her away? It didn't.

This Hawaii nonsense is just the newest in a long history of "Sarah Palin is a racist" schtick. This is the first one I heard involving Asians, however. I guess the haters are strengthening their approach. Normally, it's the racism-against-Blacks smear that gets the attention. It's become a movement, albeit one without a shred of substance. But how could there be? Chris Matthews is its leader, and he doesn't have any substance either. Time and again, he has raised the issue of race when it comes to the Governor. Is Sarah Palin the poster girl for racism? Were there any Black people at the book signing?

He's so very concerned about Black people, isn't he? His concern would be heart-warming for me, a Black woman, if I thought there was a shred of sincerity in it.

Instead, he's making a mockery of those, like Dr. King, who truly stood up for racial equality and wanted people to be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. Although I imagine Dr. King would have enjoyed her memoir, I find it extremely hard to believe he would have been asking how many Black people showed up at Governor Palin's book signing. I think he was deeper than that. Surely he, a worthy Nobel Peace Prize recipient, did not dedicate his life to justice and peace so some hater could count off how many Black people showed up at an event. Somehow I just know he believed all Americans worthy of better than that--and would never have used people to promote his political agenda, counting people like sheep, and masking it in concern.

I suppose Huff Po and Chris Matthews would be satisfied if Governor Palin had driven around the streets in her Going Rogue tour bus, picking up stray people and busing them to the book signing so she could have a nice photo-op and the racebaiters could be happy.

No, the Governor treats people as people. She loves her country--and this country is made up of all different kinds of people. She espouses a message of common sense conservatism, and that message is one that benefits all Americans. Lower taxes, love for our troops, less government intrusion, and respect for human life don't have race attached to them. Contrary to what the Chris Matthewses of the world would lead people to believe, those principles do not discriminate. They don't segregate whites from non-whites. They don't appeal simply to the white people of the world, which seems to be what some on the Left would have us believe. I like them just fine, and the last time I checked I was not white. The Governor doesn't have one message for Blacks, one for Asians, and one for Caucasians. There's one America, and that's the America she sees and loves.

What qualifies me to speak so authoritatively on the issue? Why should my word be taken over Chris Matthews, the Huffington Post, or others who smear Governor Palin?

I'm a firm believer of the quote, "A person with an experience is never at the mercy of a person with an argument." My experience with the Governor shows me what kind of person she is. I have been in her presence several times now, both in New York a couple times and in Alaska. Not one time has she treated me any differently than anyone else. I have been in the presence of her family members. I have talked more to Todd Palin than I have his wife. He, too, has been nothing but friendly and welcoming. I have talked extensively with the Governor's parents, and I consider them friends. Never has there been a hint of standoffishness or a tinge of racism from any of these people. When I saw the Governor in Rochester a couple weeks ago, she hugged me warmly and spoke as she would to someone she respected.

So the racism nonsense is just that: Nonsense with a captital N. Neither the Huffington Post, MSNBC, or any other racebaiter will convince me that the Governor is anything other than an upstanding citizen who is so totally free from racial bias that it doesn't play a factor in how she governed in Alaska, how she relates to people now, or the principles she holds dear.

I say again, a person with an experience is never at the mercy of a person with an argument.

America, questions about whether or not the Governor left college because she was a racist and questions about how many Black people showed up at a particular book signing are framed to insult your intelligence and play on your emotions. The truth is these foolish souls don't believe you're wise enough to catch on to the racebaiting. It's the game they try to lure you into. Let them know you're not playing.

Thank you Adrienne. I for one am sick of this endless race baiting.....funny how it all comes from the Democratic side of the track.....whose only real interest in minorities is to play their smoke and mirror games to get their votes. I think that the only people who are engaged in racism are the one's who speak the most often about it and use it for a political weapon. People who are not racists would never use these arguments for personal political gain.

Izzy, December 10, 2009 9:32 PM

I do not play the race game either. I am very proud and honored to having met Gov. Palin twice during the book tour. I support her 100% by defending her daily and donating to SarahPAC monthly. I have been Palinized.

MsLiberty, December 10, 2009 9:35 PM

Great post, Adrienne! Thank you!

This latest attempt at race baiting is simply ridiculous. If Sarah is such an Asian hater, how in the world was she able to stand still long enough to take a photo with Michelle Malkin? I swear these people beclown themselves more and more everyday.

Izzy, December 10, 2009 9:39 PM

Thanks Adrienne for being Sarah's defender. I appreciate you.

Wildmanbill, December 10, 2009 9:40 PM

Dont forget that it was Chris Mathews that first brought up race in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina as well when he asked "how come noone is reporting that the magority of people stuck here are African American?" Or something along those lines. I am still looking for the exact quote.
As if to say. George Bush hates Black people.

Nande, December 10, 2009 9:56 PM

Thank you for the thoughtful post, Adrienne. This argument, it seems, will be rehashed and repeated ad nauseum whenever the opportunity presents itself.

I appreciate your emphasis on 'experience' in responding to these non-sensical accusations - thus, I offer my own: I (a Black woman) met Governor Palin yesterday in Colorado. She greeted me warmly, as she did everyone else. She shook my hand and looked me in the eye, as she did with everyone else. The Governor, her parents, aunt, and her entire staff were gracious and respectful to all who took the time to travel to see them.

I don't appreciate the 'racism' label being tossed around in unwarranted circumstances. And I certainly don't appreciate the term being used in the same breath as Governor Palin's name. As you eloquently expressed, Adrienne, Governor Palin believes in the right and the power of every one of us - as AMERICANS - to achieve whatever it is we seek to do.

The 'race card' is an ugly weapon and I too am weary of seeing it used against good people. It's offensive. It's disprespectful. And it's not OK. Thank you for addressing this 'bullcrap' head on.

onexsturtle, December 10, 2009 9:57 PM

Great post, Adrienne! All this race issue that the left likes to throw out is really annoying.

Adrienne, thank you for this post.

I am a minority myself, AA. And I saw this same crap thrown against Hillary, now I am seeing them try to paint Sarah as some racist.

I as a black person was called a racist in 2008 because I refused to support that fool in the White House!

HELL NO! NO RACE CARD against our Sarah! ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!

Enrigen, December 10, 2009 10:15 PM

Thank you! I agree 100% with your post. Yet another wonderful post to add to your repertoire. Thanks Adrienne.

On a side note, I appreciate that you use the term "Black" as opposed to "African-American." These hyphenated terms like "African-American," "Mexican-American," European-American," "Asian-American" have always bothered me as if it were some subtle attempt by liberals to separate us into different categories not dependent on our ideas, but on our physical appearance. I don't know who said it first, but I totally agree with it: "I'm an American, not a hyphenated American."

TSM Admin, December 10, 2009 10:15 PM

Yea!! And lets's see, where did she go to give that big speech a few months ago? Oh, it was Hong Kong! I guess she thought it was suburb of Anchorage!

an lifelong democrat-soon-2-B-independent, December 10, 2009 10:19 PM

I agree with you. I am first and always American. I have always called myself Black, I find it hilarious when I am with people who I know are liberals they cannot say "Black American" and they look at me unsure and say "African American". I see myself as an American who happens to be of African decent. Period.

btw, I believe it was Lylod(?) Marcus who said that great quote.

TSM Admin, December 10, 2009 10:20 PM

I had another thought, Adrienne. That guy that threw the eggs that splattered on you. I don't remember exactly, but was he White? If so, then anti-Palin folks are racist too! Right?

Attack maybe the best form of defence

I notice there are no black faces in MSNBC throughout the day. All its anchor are all white from morning, thru noon, till nite. Is MSNBC racist? Why are they not hirng any black anchorman? Why is Chris Matthews still keeps his job despite his plunging ratings? Is it becos he is white? Is he racist?

Just asking, maybe it will help Chris Matthew to "STFU"

Adrienne Ross, December 10, 2009 10:37 PM

I use the term Black now, although I used African-American for years. Personally, I don't have a problem with people calling themselves African-American. I simply don't use it , but I don't really have a problem with it. Whatever floats one's boat, I guess. It doesn't bother me one way or another. I figure if what we call ourselves is our most pressing issue, we're doing pretty well, but I just figure there's bigger fish to fry.

The interesting thing for me, however, was when I went to Africa in 2007--Zambia--and when I asked my African friend if he knew Black Americans call themselves African-Americans, he told me he didn't know that. When I asked him if the term offends him, he said it didn't offend him, but that he wasn't sure why we call ourselves that when many haven't been to Africa and know very little about it. Interesting, huh?

It is not important that it is a lie: they know that it is a lie.

It is only important that they attempt to plant the meme into the mainstream media as a story to be used against the Governor. That's why and how the lefty bloggers flogged this "story" when it was culled from Sarah From Alaska a week ago. The Left tries these memes out online then their outriders at flagship outfits like MSNBC attempt to give these so called stories currency.

Palin, you will notice, hasn't even commented on the story because she knows that there's no there there. If she lets it die, it won't get a second life, like Levi. Her defenders have, but she hasn't lent the story credibility.

She has learned her lesson well.

You rock, Adrienne!

Great post and as always, your courage and honesty shine like a beacon...you are a rock.

I like visiting my children and grandchildren in Hawaii, but I could never live there--no place to drive fast! My son went to high school there and even at that age recognized the "island lifestyle" was a euphemism for "stoner" and "lacking ambition" for many of his contemporaries. He's a teacher and track coach over there now and has constant battles with motivation of his athletes...even when they are talented.

As for racism, the family of my son's high school girlfriend STRONGLY disapproved of her dating a haole..."can't you find a nice Asian boy?" It's not as if racism is confined to caucasians. When I was active in the martial arts, I saw numerous instances of prejudice based on which Asian style you practiced!

Anybody who spends any time in the islands knows there are local prices and haole prices for a given item. Luckily, my daughter in law is Japanese (Osaka) and my son in law is Filipino and I have 4 hapa haole grandbabies...so I get local prices!

an lifelong democrat-soon-2-B-independent, December 10, 2009 10:45 PM

that's a very good point.

But I really don't care if I am called AA or Black. It really doesn't matter to me, I call myself an American, not a hypenated American.

VidSweet, December 10, 2009 10:51 PM

That's a great analysis an d takedown, Adrienne.

Also, let's talk about diversity here... Sarah Palin knows MORE NATIVE AMERICANS than these liberal elites. And these Natives were treated badly throughout history, got their lands stolen, got killed. As the book says, which can only be written by Palin who lives with these diverse (Asiatic) people (that's right, Asian continent was so close to N.America that there once was a land bridge)...Native Americans' communities suffer from many ills, due to the racism against them. In fact, there are FEWER NATIVE AMERICANS than there are African Americans in the US.

That fact should be widely used. Palin has more contact and more compassion for THE most minor (in numbers) of the minority groups. Let's ask the HuffPo if THEY can name all the diverse tribes that exist in Alaska alone? Hoh! If they don't know all of them, then those HuffPo must be racists (sarcasm)! Doesn't HuffPo CARE to even know the different tribes???! Racists! Let this be a challenge!

Also, um, Obama's family left Hawai'i. They must be RACISTS against Asians, right?! Wow, I can't believe Obama is racist against Asians, can you? Maybe you can tell all your friends at HuffPo that Obama was racist against Asians. And sexist being that he never plays with girls on bball court, and has said misogynistic things. Tsk, tsk, why is Obama so racist and sexist? Hahaha.

narciso, December 10, 2009 10:55 PM

You're right section, it's the same type of garbage peddled in the Going Rouge book, everything that has been painstakingly debunked. It's too bad she couldn't get down here, maybe I'll go to that DAytona event,

VidSweet, December 10, 2009 10:55 PM

Oh, and what I wrote reads like you're friendly with HuffPo nuts, Adrienne! Hehe, I didn't mean that.

All of us should tell those HuffPuffers these facts. I BET that liberals are not that much in contact with Native Americans (because of the native land locations, too)! I know, b/c I live in the liberal Northeast, and not everyday you meet them...so LIBERALS have had no experience with NATIVE AMERICANS.

VidSweet, December 10, 2009 10:58 PM

Oh, yeah, the guy was white. I know his name too, and I wrote just his first name on The Beast article's comment section. I commend them for putting in my comment at all (they moderate the posts), but they put a [name redacted] where I had mentioned his real name, "Walter" the egg-thrower.

VidSweet, December 10, 2009 10:58 PM

What?! Oh, dang. Sigh...totally out of wildest dreams could I outbid that.

lonestar, December 10, 2009 11:00 PM

Did obama leave Hawaii because there were too many Asians?
He admits he left Occidental because there were not enough blacks with street creds.
Since he moved to Chicago to be near more black people, was it because he didn't want to be near white people? Did he go to Pakistan in 1981 because that is what Indonesians do?
Just asking.

Whitney, December 10, 2009 11:18 PM

Thank you for this great post, Adrienne! I've never noticed the Governor even mentioning race. I think it is because she doesn't see race; she sees people.

Denise J, December 10, 2009 11:18 PM

Spot on article. I'm black and support the Governor in any way I can all of the time to anyone who will listen. It's her values, her love for God, family and this great country.
The Governor and Todd are walking billboards for Alaska. They are a true refreshment. No matter what the Governor decides todo in the future, she has earned my respect.

She inspires with her deeds and when she speaks it's pure truth.

Oh the blind mice. Some will see the truth but will allow themselves to be shackled no matter what.
Sort of like pigs too. You can clean up and they'll still go back in the mud and wallow.

I posted this on a previous thread, but thought it belongs here too.

Well, I was wondering when the race meme would raise it's ugly head. Dios mio!! *sigh*
Is there anything that has not been tossed at Sarah?
This guy's reaching way down low in the lefty bag 'o cheap tricks.
And to attempt to set the record straight only makes one appear defensive.

I remember the first time I was made aware of race and my ethnicity...I wish I could say that it was pleasant or earth shattering.
Sixth grade. I was the new kid in school (about a coupla months in). A girl in my class called me a dirty mexican in front of the entire class. The fact that we shared the same ethnicity seemed lost on her. I was puzzled, but amused. I knew why she did it. I had not shared my bubblegum (Bubbelicious!! Watermelon!!) with her. I found her rude and a bully so I had not offered (hey, I was 11 yo), and she was used to taking from whomever she chose to get from and she was enraged that I was not giving it up (she didn't know that this transplanted Texan was used to mixing it up with boy cousins!). I asked her why she called me that when she was a "mexican" too. She replied that it was because I spoke spanish and she didn't (waaay weird). I laughed. I did not understand that there were people who saw differences like language and skin color first and made negative character judgements based on a name. I wasn't raised that way and it was foolish to me. She kept repeating it several times, thinking that I would get embarrassed eventually because she hoped that the other students would pick up the chant. They didn't...she had bullied them too, I later learned. I kept chuckling, shaking my head. Teacher finally broke it up, by telling her to chill. Eighth grade. Lisa and I were now friends. She apologized for being a butt and asked if I would teach her spanish. Go figure.

Whenever someone tosses out the race card, I remember this incident. It just means they got nothing left and are desperate. Bullies. Somebody might mention to them that the word has lost its impact...Obama and his supporters have played it out!!

Lynda, December 11, 2009 12:22 AM

Ms. Ross, what a great post...words that needed to be said...The lady I met in Roswell did not care what my color was...I feel that Dr. King would have respected the governor...Dr. King had a dream that color would not matter and we would come together as one America...governor Palin gives us hope and wants us to understand that we should "stand up and be proud to say I am an America and I am colored blind except for the Red...White and Blue of the flag I stand under...

DefCon66, December 11, 2009 12:23 AM

An excellent article Adrienne,
we all know this racism claim on Sarah is a bold faced lie but that is not who this is for, it's for those that havent woken up to the fact that the LSM and bloggers are promoting this to try and destroy her. Racism accusations for the liberals is a weapon to silence debate, intimidate and extort from the opposition to promote thier agenda as well as grow the power block of voters on the left by portraying that conservatives are racists when Dr. King was a conservative Republican. The left hate it when you point that out to them by the way, also in my opinion it being constantly used takes away the seriousness from real cases of racism to some degree...like crying wolf.

JP, December 11, 2009 12:36 AM

Bullies!
They are hoping others pick up this chant and add their voices to this perverted chorus.
Kind of a last gasp effort. If there was any legitimate arguments left, they would not be playing this tune, IMHO.

There's a lot of "reverse racism" that goes on in the Islands. Not so bad these days, but back then ..... wicked bad. Especially for caucasian girls, I've heard. I suspect that if there was a racial aspect to Sarah's decision to leave, it was not due to HER intolerance.

PEC, December 11, 2009 7:08 AM

What MSNBC and Huff Post do not understand is Martin Luther Kings dream is not going to be fulfilled until post like this are gone. What do I mean. Until they stop looking and seeing everything through the eyes of race instead of what the individuals character is then this stuff will continue.

"I don't appreciate the 'racism' label being tossed around in unwarranted circumstances."

Crying racist "wolf" is bad for anyone who is concerned about real race issues. I (a white chick) consider Adrienne to be Mrs. Palin's #1 fan. The thing the two women have in common is character over color. When is Dr. Kings dream really going to come ture?

Mrs. Terry Johnson, December 11, 2009 9:09 AM

Character over color was Dr. King's dream and the vision Jesus had for the world. That's why Adrienne and Sarah meet eye to eye.

BeeFL, December 11, 2009 9:47 AM

Hi Adrienne,
Just a quick observation about racism. I think Sarah is being subject to female racism in America right now. (if that's how you word it) I keep hearing over and over again, that Sarah is not qualified to be President of the USA. BS! What qualifications does obama have? What has he run? Not a state, not as a Mayor. What qualified the Bush's? Jimmy Carter? Clinton? Could you please do an article on this subject. I am shocked that more women have not spoken out about this more. It's really insulting. I'm insulted for Sarah!

Great article!
Sarah Palin 2012!

hooi4theGuv, December 11, 2009 10:06 AM

If Sarah is not qualified, all the more all the others are not qualified. I have also been irked by this line of attack and would also like to see it destroyed.
