Regarding the Latest "Controversy"

Predictably, Governor Palin's opponents continue to intentionally distort her words in order to harm her politically.

This time they wish to cast her as a "birther" in the hopes of portraying her as extreme, racist, or someone who is easily caught up in strange conspiracy theories. It should serve as no surprise that they are wrong again.

While on the Rusty Humphries show, Governor Palin was asked if she would make the "birth certificate an issue" if she ran for President. She replied that it wouldn't be necessary to make it an issue because the electorate can do so if they choose. Governor Palin didn't suggest that the President wasn't born here. She simply said that the electorate can ask whatever they want of a candidate, as some did with Trig. She's not going to second guess the electorate's right to ask questions.

By comparing it to Trig Trutherism, Governor Palin hinted at how seriously she takes the "birth certificate issue" regardless of whether it is fair game or not. However, this won't stop some from seizing any opportunity to attack Governor Palin.

As her opponents continue to make things up, we'll continue to set the record straight.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

The Governor isn't a birther--if she was, she wouldn't call Obama Mr. President in all her type, type, slaps.

Thank you!
BTW, I think Allahpundit may be gearing up for a new gig at HuffPo. He certainly knows how to get a leftist meme rolling.

Good work. She was quite reasonable in her answer.

Well said. Sarah is NOT a birther. She just agrees with FREE SPEECH.

The Governor just responded on facebook:

Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. I’ve pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child. Conspiracy-minded reporters and voters had a right to ask... which they have repeatedly. But at no point – not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews – have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States.

Personally, I liked the interview and I loved that she reiterated her position on illegal immigration. That will make some conservatives very, very happy.

As for the lefty blogs, and unfortunately, righty ones like Hot Air trying to make her into a birther, it will be a one-day news cycle at best (and on a Friday when no one is watching!). Remember, we have the Gridirion Dinner coming up with Palin vs Barney; that will be what the weekend news shows cover.

And her answer was fine. It really doesn't matter how she answered the question; the blogs and cable news channels would have still spun it against her. So, she answered truthfully and at the end of the day, that's all you can do. I'll bet she's sleeping just fine tonight. :)

Way to get out in front of this one, C4P. The birther stuff is 'touchy' so it's important to emphasize her point of comparing it to the Trig truther stuff. People bring it up. It's a free country.

Thank you, Daniel. Great response. I love this site. I love you guys.

I was just about to post this.

It's just as we said. She supports the right of the people to ask probing questions and demand transparency from elected officials...but that does not translate into "he's an illegal alien and must be sent back to Kenya where he came from!!!111!!!"

yogi41, December 4, 2009 1:22 AM

But can you ask him to release his college transcripts, Sarah? Please?! :)

Andrew, December 4, 2009 1:23 AM

Yup, exactly Mary.

latinchic, December 4, 2009 1:24 AM

Glad she's on top of this. Can't let other people define you.

Whether Palin is a "Birther" or not, the MSM, HuffPost, HotAir, etc. etc. are going to call her a "Birther". And, that's going to follow her around for years.

The only way to prevent it from having an impact is for you to take action as described at the link.

Good response Daniel. Well said. The Guv response on Facebook is spot on. I can just visualize a huge roll of the eyes as she has to yet again respond to some trumped up media "controversy" I love that she titled it "stupid conspiracies", LOL.

I also liked the interview as I said in a post that was deleted. Sarah gave many fine answers during the 15 minute interview. She sounded smart and reasonable. Her answer to the birth certificate question was just a blip in the entire exchange and I thought she answered it clearly and with her trademark sharp humor. I certainly didn't get the impression that she's a birther from what she said.

But I didn't know that Rusty always asks the birth certificate question. Had I known that, I may have winced hearing it and been a little more chagrin about Sarah's response. Not that she said anything wrong.

Have A question Do these sites have people that do nothing but listen to every one she says or writes? But things are different now...the governor answers on Facebook within hours...and the difference is sites like C4P and other that also are on top of what these sites say...and when the governor and C4P get through with their slapdown...they just look stupid...

Stazec, December 4, 2009 4:43 AM

Especially AllahPundit
