Rochester Going Rogue Egg-Man Tells His Story

Yesterday a man attempted to hit Governor Palin with tomatoes at her book signing at Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. He missed by a mile, hitting a police officer instead, which got him arrested. Read the story here.

Though some have made jokes of the incident, I don't find it funny at all. This wasn't the first time during the Going Rogue book tour that some coward has attempted to show his aversion for the Governor by firing some food item at her.

Upon my return from the Rochester book signing, I shared my account of how a man entered Borders shortly after she left, voiced disappointment that he had arrived too late, and then hurled eggs at a display of her books. The yolk splattered on me, and the Egg-Man was then apprehended by the police. Read that blog post and see the pictures here.

Egg-Thrower, who had stated that he let his emotions take over, apologized several times for splattering me with eggs and offered to pay my cleaning bill. Clearly, he was not sorry for the real offense: his intent to allow his insane hatred to cause the Governor embarrassment, if not actual harm. This is obvious by the article he wrote, which was published in The Buffalo Beast.

I park behind an Uno’s Pizza joint and make my way on foot. Hmm… no deluded zealots, and no patchouli-soaked hippies. Am I too late? I march past the door. The place is a wretched mess. Many people are milling about, but it seems like the end. There’s a news van outside and a woman appears to be giving an interview. I ask a clerk what happened here. “Sarah Palin” was her response. I ask if she’s gone. “Yes.” I’m only minutes late. My hand goes for the egg in my pocket. “I’m sorry I missed her,” I say. In one motion, the egg is out and I’m pitching it full force at a pyramid of Palin books. In slow motion I see the oblong, white missile fly true towards its mark. The egg loudly smashes into Palin’s grinning, idiot face, and chicken menses splatters the entire pyramid.

[...]

Next, a small herd of people gather around me. A black woman, whom I thought to be a reporter when I saw her in Borders, is front and center. Maybe she’ll take my story and turn this sad and ridiculous fiasco into something worthwhile. Wrong. Each of the crowd is holding Palin books, including my imagined African American savior. They are pissed Palin pals, and apparently, I’d gotten them with egg. The woman complains that she was up since 3 am for Sarah, and now she has to change her clothes. I receive multiple dirty looks and lectures. I graciously offer to pay their dry cleaning bills, but they represent the Party of No and predictably rebuff my generosity. I give them my reasons, and they warn me not to believe the “lame media” conspiracy against Sarah. To them, any facts are mere fabrications of a media conspiracy. We are no longer able to reason together, as they’ve discarded rational thought as a trapping of liberalism. I’m lucky Sarah’s not here, they vaguely threaten. I imagine a helicopter swooping out of the sky and a crazed, grinning Palin blasting me with a high-powered rifle, like so much helpless endangered wildlife.

You can read the rest of the article here, but be prepared to be annoyed if you expect to find even a hint of remorse in his words. In spite of damaging over $800.00 worth of books, "I still don't care," he wrote. And why should he? According to him, he received a huge discount from the store and was smiling and yapping it up with Borders employees and Rochester police officers. Yeah, that ought to teach him!

I still cannot figure out how it is that conservatives are coined as hateful, intolerant souls when it seems that Liberals are the ones who go on the attack whenever someone doesn't agree with them and won't sit down and shut up. I've said a million times that nobody has to agree with anybody; that's life. If a person doesn't like Governor Palin, he is entitled to that. But when that dislike turns into entering a public place and trying to assault her, it's crossed way over the line.

I chose not to bring charges against the man in Rochester, but I'm glad this Minnesota character was thrown--at least temporarily--in the slammer. A loud and clear message needs to be sent to miscreants who feel they have a right to take pot-shots at her--or anyone else.

Do these incidents embolden others? First eggs, now tomatoes. No, not funny.

Following the incident, the Governor tweeted the following (emphasis added):

Finishing up great MN event w great Americans who r geared up 4 Christmas;as w everywhere we traveled, staff&security have been outstanding

It's time to start curb-stomping these douchebags before the cops get to 'em.

Also, Sarah has a new op-ed in the Washington Post.

As much of a jerk as that guy is, it's not a surprise at all. Progressives like him are never sorry and they always place themselves in the role of victim. Progressivism truly is a mental illness. Notice how he makes himself the "reasonable" one, writing that he made Adrienne a generous offer to clean her clothes? Again, notice how he imagines the crowd forming around him as "pissed Palin pals"? He says he tried to offer his reason but no one wanted to hear "facts"? And finally, he imagines Gov. Palin shooting at him from a helicopter in the sky. I am unapologetically going to generalize here when I say ALL PROGRESSIVES ARE DERANGED and this psycho is no exception.

PatrickinOH,  December 8, 2009 8:29 PM

Great write up Adrienne!  That guy who hit you with eggs sounds like a real jerkass, but more seriously we should be praying for Sarah and her family's safety everyday next time it may not be eggs or tomatoes

yogi41 There is actually a book written by a psychiatrist that asserts your hypothesis its called The Liberal Mind, very interesting read

Haters on the Left hail the egg-thrower in Rochester and the tomato-thrower in Minnesota as folk heroes.  Hate crimes are encouraged and handsomely rewarded by the liberal establishment, just as the Weather Underground domestic terrorists became folk heroes, and Bill Ayers was rewarded with a plum professorship.  It is all part of their war where the end justifies any means, any violence.
After their victory last election, they tried to burn down Gov. Palin's church.
.

PatrickinOH,  December 8, 2009 8:46 PM

when are they going to figure out who did that?  I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the people who did were paid by Soros

Deidre,  December 8, 2009 8:48 PM

what an sick, twisted man.  I can't believe that he was all chummy with the Borders individuals and the police.

Lakerfanalways,  December 8, 2009 9:00 PM

You should have filed charges, I know I know, turn the other cheek, but I would have done it..I knew he was not sorry for what he did, heck he would probably still try to do it again if he had the chance. If he tried that crap around me, he wouldnt be able to walk for a week. what a sick sick puppy he is

Kjanlady,  December 8, 2009 9:00 PM

Liberals.......hate filled fanatics.....what can one say about people who live in an alternative universe inhabited by clueless clones.  Egg guy has a brain as scrambled as the egg he hurled ant tomato man's brain is as stewed as the vegetable he dropped from above.

Like their spineless hero Oblamo, they cannot throw worth a darn.  Libs would be in serious peril should SureShot Sarah contemplate hurling produce back at them.  I'd vote for pumpkins (sorta like a basketball)......but our Sarah is too much the lady......and would never waste good food items in this economy...she'd bake a pie and take to the homeless shelter........which is filled to capacity because of liberal compassion?? and Oblamo's economic "fixes".

Thanks for the update Adrienne. This guy is certainly a good example of men's hearts failing, no remorse at all. His brain might be struggling a bit too.

debtstar,  December 8, 2009 9:21 PM

A bit too much hate from them.

Brianus.Berkleianus,  December 8, 2009 9:24 PM

Thanks, Adrienne.  While I have been praying hard for Sarah every day since 29 August, 2008, I have never prayed as I have since the book tour started.

What I think of scum like this egg "person" and this tomato creep...is not printable!!

God bless you always!!

Brianus.Berkleianus,  December 8, 2009 9:26 PM

I know this may not sound very charitable, but it is how I feel!!  I can pray for creatures like this...but God help them if they ever try to pull any of this stuff near any of us C4Pers!!!

A,  December 8, 2009 9:39 PM

<span>Adrienne, there was no need for you to file charges.  There is no need for you to testify.</span>

The criminal has confessed.

And, he confessed at the time.

Your testimony might be nice, but is not essential.

He admits guilt.

Nor was he out of control.

He was as sane as many like him, and as sane as he is today.

He was arrested.

Handcuffed in the squad car = arrested.

They took his information and should have a report.

It is up to the judge or jury. I recommend jail.

The statute of limitations has a long time to run.

VidSweet,  December 8, 2009 10:39 PM

Hey Adrienne, great write up! Can't believe this guy was given a platform -- and he didn't even sign his name, the coward. And he was complaining that you won't accept his offer to pay for the bills?! And that somehow made us the bad people and the "Party of NO?" It was clear you had more class and goodness that his evil mind can comprehend.

Folks, I was a witness to the event and let me tell you first off that HE LIED when he said that each one of us in the crowd had a Palin book, I know I didn't. Others had theirs in their bags. I doubt that he was chummy with the police either, it's just to save face--although which face, I don't know, since he didn't write his name.

Yep, I am proud to say I was among those gave him "multiple dirty looks and lectures"!!!  We were waiting to hear if he had gotten caught, and when we heard he was and was just outside the entrance to Borders, we went outside. When I saw him, I said something like "You are no better than what you claim to protest" and would have said more except one of the men gently took my elbow, took me a few steps back, and asked me not to say anything.

I stood near him, purposely shaking my head side-to-side, because it was the best reproach outside of telling him off. I kept it up, and for a second, he looked ashamed (and scared, of course).

Interesting that he didn't write his full name or tell us how his bosses were just laughing with him about his act of vandalism. He knows he was the villain, that his work would rethink before they promoted him or gave hima raise, and all the rest of his story is pure bravado. As if the volunteer cops would be friendly with him! Why do you think they volunteered for the event? Clearly they didnt dislike Palin.

This is the message I left for his article at the Daily Beast:

"Hey, WALTER (aka Egg Thrower),

Yeah, i know your WHOLE NAME and if you think your actions are justified, why are you so concerned about your “career”–why don’t you tell your bosses about your great, valiant act against an inanimate book? Can’t even PUT YOUR NAME down on your own work?? Such cowardice! I knew it, but even with that fact alone, Palin is so much better than you.

I was there with that “group” of Palin supporters, and already I see a LIE in your story. I know for a fact that I was not carrying a Palin book, and most of us had put it away (mine were safe in my car) when it was signed. So no, not “each in the crowd” carried a book. Tsk, tsk, so loose with facts. Maybe a bunch of these so-called reasons for your action are lies, too. Maybe you’re just crazy and projecting your craziness incorrectly on those you’d categorize as crazy right-wingers, huh? When in reality you have mental issues.

But I did give you those reproachful looks because think about it…while Palin was productive and positive, you DESTROYED PROPERTY THAT WAS OWNED BY THE STORE. You can talk in a deluded manner as if your mission was a great act. But tell me, when you destroy a BOOKSTORE’S property and didn’t EVEN mention your reason for your protest (you only said “I’m sorry I missed her” to the few who were at the store and didn’t elaborate), what positive act (or educational moment, if your deluded mind would call it that) did you bring to the world? Nothing but something broken and rotten, like you are.
So it was NOT any reasonable argument or protest that you did. No, you were no hero for your cause–you didn’t even have a message. Just a pathetic act of vandalism. Are you better than what you claim to protest? Nope, in that, you are the bad person. Your actions are the bad actions. You are the antithesis of Sarah Palin, and you’ve shown yourself and others like you to be the villains."

Let's see if [...]

VidSweet,  December 8, 2009 10:42 PM

I think that was a lie. See my post below, where I recount the events (I was there). If they were volunteers police officers, could they have disliked Palin enough to approve of his destruction of property? Nah, he lied (I never had the Palin book in my hand) and he's scum, so most is probably a lie just to save face.

happymullah,  December 8, 2009 10:46 PM

I am more concerned about the GOP establishment doing harm to Sarah than about what the fringe leftwing lunatics may do. The latter tend to be ineffectual because they are mostly effete bunglers.

What are those GOP elites up to these days? They are too quiet.
Ominous silence, bad sign.
A dark, diabolical plot in the offing?

How I detest these people (if we can still call them such).

Down with the GOP establishment and their well-fed, well-wined and well-clothed mendacious blathering elites!
And...

VIVA SARAH !

CODE PINK LADIES (CODE PINK HAS TERRORIST TIES H/T BIG GOVERNMENT)   ATTACHED IS A UNBELIEVABLE VIDEO THAT SHOWS THESE CRAZIES GETTING WITHIN 30 FEET OF PALIN AS SHE IS TO GIVE HER ACCEPTANCE SPEECH!!!!     IF YOU FEEL LED, YOU MUST PRAY FOR HER SAFTEY!!

Exactly, it's part of the internal conversation he has to try to convince himself that he's the good-guy in all this.  Clearly sick.  He and others with his world view can't win an argument with reason, so they resort to vandalism, assault (worse if their "enemy" is a conservative woman), and even quite possibly arson.

This person is a coward.  Clearly selfish and self-centered, I feel sorry for the people in his life who have to interact with him daily.  When moral ambiguity rules in the heart of man, the end justifies the means (as others have pointed out).  It's a miserable existence and he's most likely a miserable, self-loathing individual.  Things like lying, cheating, and stealing are a commonplace occurance for him - as long as he can eke out some perceived benefit.  He would be the kind of person who would 'kiss your face' then turn and 'stab your back' if it suited him.  I would never want to entrust my life and my loved ones lives in his hands.  To say he needs God is an understatement.

I think if convicted he would've had to do community service.

A,  December 9, 2009 3:09 AM

Yes, but he should do jail.

He would be laughing at anything less.

The goal of a judge should be behavior modification of this man and his fellow travelers.

Bruce,  December 9, 2009 7:40 AM

"We are no longer able to reason together, as they’ve discarded rational thought as a trapping of liberalism"

Let's recap.

He goes to a book signing for the sole purpose fo assaulting the book's author with eggs.

Disappointed to have missed his opportunity to do so, he throws eggs at the book she wrote and calls her an idiot.

He then assumes that an African American woman in the crowd will be on his "side" and recuse him from the herd of irrational neanderthal's because, well, her sking is the same color as the president's skin.

This is followed by the implication that Sarah Palin hunts endangered species from helicopters.

And, he's going to lecture me on how to think rationally??????????

Wow.

Just wow.
