“Rogue is Vogue”, and The Arctic Bloater Going Slightly Mad….. What The?

“[W]hat an opportunity to get to see around this entire wonderful country and meet the most amazing people”

Good morning,

During her recent interview with Governor Palin, Greta Van Susteren observed that “[T]housands have stood in line for you. They love you don’t they?”

Yes they do, Greta, and that is why this week’s round-up begins with an illustration of the extraordinary response of ordinary people during the past week of the “Going Rogue” tour.

As our friend Kjanlady stated this week: “It is amazing what ordinary barbarians across this country are willing to go through just to get a book signed, a few words, a handshake and a smile from Sarah.”

And Manajordan, you said, “I love reading about everyone’s experiences.”

Me too Mj… so, if you’ve got a few moments to spare, grab a cup of the hot stuff, pull up a chair and plonk yourself down alongside me and my four official readers (yes, Defend, you’re in.. yeah, you too Cruela), to re-visit some highlights.

The Arctic Bloater

Call it a conditioned reflex if you like, but Sunday wouldn’t be Sunday without a little “huff and puff” at the expense of those who “agitate on all things Palin”, ‘cos we “don’t have a lot of mercy for the bad guys”.

Reader, as I sit here in the study at C4P Central for some reason my attention is taken momentarily by the small aquarium which adjoins several of the workstations we contributors use. Observe, if you will, its most recent addition, Carassius auratus auratus alaskana, a species of goldfish found only in Alaska and known commonly as The Arctic Bloater - though we have named our particular specimen Dan.

And, drawn once again, I will tell you that it never ceases to surprise me how even amongst those of us who have led a life of sobriety and responsibility, the six inch high, capitalised red letters W, T and F can still form so instantly in the mind, when occasion truly warrants.

Quite often the red letter experience can be encountered naturally whilst reading at The Alaska Standard, as was the case again this week when its Editor in Chief, the man feted by the people of Oaxaca, Mexico, as El Rabanos, the living embodiment of all that they revere, the radish of all radishes, the man who did once say to Governor Palin, “I would never say anything bad about you or your husband”, delivered another temple rubbing, brain scratching moment of dubious integrity, in the on-going process of his public meltdown.

Now, contrary to popular belief, goldfish do have a memory span, often as much as three seconds, and perhaps that goes some way to explaining why it is that Dan Fagan finds it so difficult to hold to any public position which he has previously seen fit to announce to the world via his website, or his radio show, or in the columns of the ADN.

Members of the Jury, it is my belief that the evidence of the inconstancy of Mr Fagan’s utterances over the last five months is overwhelming. Indeed, you may well have observed how the offensiveness of his writing rivals the open sewers of The Immoral Manurity on occasion.

But what do you suppose the public reaction might have been to his calumny had the roles in this case been reversed? For example, with the following said of Mr Fagan on Governor Palin’s Facebook page:

6th July 09: “[he] was either a sociopathic liar or a delusion[al] nut job”

9th July 09: “[he] has become mentally unstable... [he] can’t help herself when it comes to lying... [he] lied. But that’s what [he] does. [He] lies...[he] is a liar! [...] Half of what comes out of [his] mouth isn’t true... [he’s] mentally unstable and delusional... [he’s] an approval seeker on steroids. And it has driven [him] to lose all sense of reality.”

18th July 09: “Yes, [he] has lost it and revealed himself as flaky, delusional, dishonest, slightly paranoid...”

Members of the Jury, I would ask that you should also review Exhibit B, the so-called public apology of August 1st 2009, and imagine the furore if it had been Governor Palin apologising to Mr Fagan:

[That] brings me to a verse a friend recently shared with me. It is found in Ephesians and says, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

Too much of what was coming out of my [Facebook page] was unwholesome. For some reason I had convinced myself it was my job to run down and criticize [Dan Fagan].

I will tell you I am ashamed of the way I have conducted myself publicly in recent years and frankly I am embarrassed by it too... I want to publicly apologize to [Dan Fagan].

During your deliberations, Members of the Jury, I urge that you also consider Exhibit C, Fagan’s November 18th 2009 review of Governor Palin’s biography “Going Rogue”. How would it have been received if Governor Palin had reviewed Fagan’s biography in like manner?

Fagan, when writing [‘Going Bananas]’, set himself on a course of smallness, triviality, quibbling, sophistry, nothingness, and worthlessness. From the excerpts I’ve read, it is hard to draw any other conclusion than [Dan Fagan] is small in stature, character, and integrity.

Yes I do believe [Dan Fagan] has a dark soul... A soul focused on hurting others. [Dan Fagan’s] book reveals him as someone unwilling, unable, incapable of living a life of forgiveness. He is a grudge carrier...

What crudeness, heartlessness, and pure ugliness.

And before reaching your verdict, Members of the Jury, consider the sea-change apparent in Exhibit D, published a mere 14 days after Exhibit C:

The mainstream media has been so amazingly bias, attacking and unfair to her, it has lost all credibility when reporting on Palin...

As Palin uses her popularity with conservatives, a popularity that is in some ways unprecedented in modern political history, she will become a real power broker within the Republican Party.

[...]

Did she make the right decision in quitting? ... Could Sarah Palin end up saving our republic because she quit as governor? You betcha!

Finally, Members of the Jury, you should review once more the content of the public service announcement which currently greets those visiting Mr Fagan’s website:

Bing Bong!

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Jeckyl and Hyde Express Rail Service. My name is Dan and I will be your steward today.

The train departing shortly from The Alaska Standard platform will be making stops at the cities of Erratic, Irrational, Disordered Thoughts, and Wild Changes In Perception, on its way to its final destination: Increasing Madness.

Your honor, it is the prosecution’s contention that the accused is one card short of a full deck, out to sea, his kettle is boiling over, he thinks he’s a banana tree.

In short, oh dear, he’s going slightly mad.

C4P business card (here)

Feel free to print off a stack of them and hand them out to people while you wait to get your copy of "Going Rogue" signed, at your local Tea Party event or wherever you may find yourself discussing Governor Palin or C4P.

Beancounter: good wishes to you on behalf of all regular readers.

And finally... in trying to keep abreast of our readers’ comments, I seem to recall reading in one of the Threads that our good friend PEC has been appointed Cleavage Czar...

One presumes that that decision was arrived at on the basis of PEC’s proven expertise in the mastery of calibrated measuring instruments, rather than simply because he is someone with, shall we say, extensive hands-on experience.

That was Andrea Mitchell on her broomstick! I slowed it way down.. and yup.. there she was!

OldDude,  December 6, 2009 11:59 AM

Will read later and catch up...just wanted everyone to know that McCain was on Meet the Press this morning and enthusiastically voiced how proud he was of Sarah, what a good relationship he, Cindy, Sarah and Todd have...then he started laughing and talking about how much he enjoyed the press and others attacking someone who was irrelevant.  Said she had earned the right to be a major voice in the party.

onexsturtle,  December 6, 2009 12:10 PM

Yes, the local media coverage were fair.  It's just the national media who's way jealous of her that go out of their way to distort what is going on to make her look bad (Norah O'Donnell for example).

Great write up, Rich! It was funny! :) Love Dan Fagan on the face of the gold fish.

onexsturtle,  December 6, 2009 12:11 PM

Great write up, Rich!  And I don't know if this is happening to anyone, but the C4P page is loading slow today.

onexsturtle,  December 6, 2009 12:14 PM

I guess McCain sees all the attention she's getting and had to say something. It's like, "Oh, she's my best friend again because she makes me look good."

check this out:

Sarah Palin, tattoos, and true hero worship

Wednesday, December 2nd brought hundreds of folks out to Costco in Tempe, Arizona.  The one and only <span>Sarah Palin</span> graced their presence to sign her new book, "<span>Going Rogue</span>".  According to a gentleman calling in to  the <span>Sean Hannity</span> radio show on Thursday, he persuaded Governor Palin to not only sign his book but also his back.
If you think this unbelievable, the Palin devotee then reported that he and his girlfriend wasted no time driving to a tattoo establishment and, you guessed it, having Palin's autograph permanently engraved on his back via tattoo.
