Sarah Palin: Home to Alaska

Via Facebook:

This book tour has been an amazing and inspirational experience for me and my family as we crisscrossed the country and met so many wonderful Americans. At nearly every stop we met someone with a connection to Alaska – usually through the military from being stationed at one of Alaska’s bases. With that in mind, we’ve decided to hold the final book signings at Alaska's Elmendorf and Eielson AFBs. Hope to see you there!

Sarah,
Thanks for your inspiration! Hope to hear a lot from you over the next year!

Sarah Palin 2012!

Nancy, December 10, 2009 5:48 PM

And all the looneys are wiping their brows (I won't say what else they are wiping!) Whew! That irrelevant, quitter, prominent politician, is going back to that foreign land of Alaska! She will fade into the background.

PatrickinOH, December 10, 2009 5:49 PM

Wish I could go, I actually have a base pass, unfortunately I live about 4,000 miles away, Anyway Thank you Sarah for writing the book, you are an inspiration and I hope to see you out in Ohio next year to campaign for John Kasich for governor he is a commonsense conservative like you! I have no doubt you will have a lot to say in the coming new year, Merry Christmas to the entire Palin family and a happy new year!
Palin 2012!

Tommy Report, December 10, 2009 5:52 PM

Dude, I want to know the 11% of the beltway GOP crowd that indicated she was the most impressive Republican of the year.

Penny, December 10, 2009 5:52 PM

OK, I have a couple of questions for the lucky dogs that got to go to one (or more) of the book signings.

Did anyone have the calm, fun spunk to refer to the Guv as "Cuda" when you met her?

And two, did anyone happen to let her know we miss RAM, JR, Tim or any of our other MIA contributors?

DefCon66, December 10, 2009 5:56 PM

I wish I could be there. *sigh*

Lakerfanalways, December 10, 2009 5:58 PM

LOVED the interview she did with Laura Ingraham this morning..wee weed up LOL PRICELESS..also LOVE Michele Bachmann, my three favorite conservative women in this order: Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Marsha Blackburn

PatrickinOH, December 10, 2009 5:59 PM

OT, CharterOakie said I am now qualified to contribute a verse to the Chrissy Matthews Song I think it needs a little work but hell here it goes:

As Chrissy tries so hard to bring Sarah down
He only makes himself look like a clown
Matthews who so hates Palin
can't help but watch enviously as Obama starts failin'
He hates her signature so much
Oh my, he is so out of touch

CruelaDev, December 10, 2009 6:04 PM

Sarah Who?...I was looking at Tood! Was Sarah even there?

CruelaDev, December 10, 2009 6:05 PM

Sarah Who?...I was looking at Todd! Was Sarah even there?

juju, December 10, 2009 6:06 PM

Cruel....I didn't see where you answered my question yesterday so I will repeat it: I saw on another blog that when you asked Todd to take his shirt off like Sarah spoke about in her book is when Sarah decked you....is this true????"

RINO-Hunter, December 10, 2009 6:07 PM

Another O/T item:

Former Alaska Sen. and 2008 presidential candidate Mike Gravel predicted in an interview that Sarah Palin will run for president — and "she's going to surprise a lot of people."

Gravel, a Democrat, called Palin's politics "terrible."
"But that doesn't detract from the fact that she's a very talented person," he said.

wisetrog, December 10, 2009 6:07 PM

Cruela, leave Todd alone!

CruelaDev, December 10, 2009 6:09 PM

Sarah who?...

Zephyr, December 10, 2009 6:11 PM

Penny--Glad you brought up RAM, JR and Tim. I started thinking about them yesterday and couldn't get them off my mind. I sure would like to hear something about them.

CruelaDev, December 10, 2009 6:12 PM

Sarah Who?...

PatrickinOH, December 10, 2009 6:12 PM

You can become friends with RAM on her facebook page Zephyr

RINO-Hunter, December 10, 2009 6:13 PM

I also seem to recall Gravel defending her against some of the smears during the campaign on one of the moonbat shows on MSLSD.

CruelaDev, December 10, 2009 6:13 PM

Sarah who..?...If she did than she hits like a girl...cause I never felt it...

PatrickinOH, December 10, 2009 6:15 PM

really? maybe I read this guy wrong

Rogue2012, December 10, 2009 6:16 PM

It was a pleasure meeting you in Rochester, NY. I along with my husband and two children drove from Yonkers, NY to Rochester. Drove 6 hours straight. Reached Rochester and the Border Book store in Henrietta. I got out of my mini-van with chair and blanket and took my place on line. That was on a Friday night at 11PM; doors opened at 9am on Saturday for wristbands and book signing started at 6pm that Saturday night. My husband and two kids went to the hotel. I met wonderful people that night. All I can say is that you are a great lady. Stay true, stay being Sarah Heath Palin from Wasilla. It was a honor to shake the hand of our next President. Take care and God Bless you and your family. Have a very Merry and Blessed Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year!!!

Kjanlady, December 10, 2009 6:16 PM

Enjoy your time at home with friends and family during this blessed holiday season, Sarah. You have earned a well deserved rest and our wish for a safe and happy Christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

BUT........we sure would LOVE to see you back down here in the lower 48 for Going Rogue, Part II......consider what I used as bait earlier for a book signing here in Southern Louisiana,,,,,,you remember, alligator hunting in the bayous...well, I bet we could bag a gator large enough for the purse, killer heels, and.....a fierce looking belt, too. One that would make michelle o. green with envy. Just a suggestion.......

Let us know how your Christmas goes.....especially, for the kids....I'll bet this will be an exciting Christmas with Trig......post some photos on Facebook.

Thanks for all you have done and all that I know you will continue to do.

PatrickinOH, December 10, 2009 6:25 PM

don't you mean Obama?

manajordan, December 10, 2009 6:32 PM

Hey all!

I'm glad for Sarah's sake that she will be returning home and making her last two tour stops in her beloved Alaska. But, I'm really really glad that before she did so, she made a stop in my neck of the woods on her last day in the lower 48.

I'm still trying to get my mind around the whole experience. It was incredible, and if I was to describe it in one word it would be "Warm."

I got there about 4:30 in the morning. I passed several thermometers on the way, they said it was anywhere between 10 and 15 degrees. Well, I thought that's a heck of a lot warmer than some of the places people have camped out waiting for their chance to meet the Guv. So, no complaints there :) I had enough warm clothes to get me through a few hours waiting.

I got to know some wonderful people. People who were warm and friendly. And we trusted each other rather quickly and were able to take turns going to our vehicles to get things or put them away etc. I mean you have a bunch of people who are supporters of the Guv, of course they are going to be good peeps.

I had my coat on for the majority of the time until we got in the store. I wore my C4P shirt, the one with all the names for the Guv on the back. It was a hit! I of course directed people to go to the website, for the best coverage of all things Governor Palin. I also showed them in the book where she acknowledged the site. It was cool, I mean warm:)

manajordan, December 10, 2009 6:42 PM

(cont.)
I have to admit I was really nervous. I think that comes from knowing I was going to meet one of my heroes for the first time. I was nervous right until I rounded the corner and I could see Gov. Palin and Todd. It then dawned on me, I already knew her. Thanks C4P for being a part of that. Her and Todd are such a beautiful couple inside and out. It was so cool to see them there together and to be able to shake both of their hands.

I had practiced what I wanted to say to the Guv, most of all my dearest wish was to be able to tell her thank-you. Well, there was a flaw in my plan, and it was all my fault. If I wanted to be able to tell the Guv thank-you I should have worn a different shirt.

She warmly greeted me, and then took one look at my shirt, put her hands together and proceeded to spend the whole time thanking me. I cannot tell you how much that touched me. Here's this woman who has given so much for her country and for her fellow beings, and yet she wanted to express her gratitude. What a lady and what a heart.

I was able to eek out a "thanks for everything" and "Merry Christmas" and tell her my name when she asked (which by the way is Sarah :) I then had to move on.

It was a splendid, simple and heartfelt experience. The woman blows me away more and more. A grateful heart is the best.

I was able to give a Christmas card, in which I expressed my thanks, thank goodness.

It was awesome, Sarah Palin is awesome!

Penny, December 10, 2009 6:48 PM

Fabulous, Manajordan! I've been thinking about you all day waiting to hear your account. Knew it would be touching and - sure enough! So happy for you.

Emily (Jane Austen), December 10, 2009 6:51 PM

Mannnnnnnnnnnnn, you had all the fun while I'm sitting here read to go to a "politically correct" holiday band concert. Lord knows you had much more fun...:)

Zephyr, December 10, 2009 6:53 PM

Thanks for sharing! I brings the whole tour closer to those of us who couldn't make it to a signing to meet her and her family.

Emily (Jane Austen), December 10, 2009 6:58 PM

Good night y'all, I'm off to play piccolo in my "politcally correct" band concert. You know you're in liberal America when you have no Christmas music to play at your "holiday" band concert...

Nancy, December 10, 2009 7:01 PM

manajordan,
Thinking about you today! Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience! You are awesome!:)

PatrickinOH, December 10, 2009 7:07 PM

Cruela and Todd have experienced something special together. I know, I was there :)

Penny, December 10, 2009 7:23 PM

Thanks Patrick. I sent the request but didn't add a message. I think she'll remember me without the note - Haha - I don't really like to write. I'll see if she adds me without annoying her with reading more dribble. :)

Mia, December 10, 2009 7:30 PM

manajordan....I am thrilled for you...
I always enjoy your thought-out comments...Your representation of C4P today... made me proud...

Jane Austen,

When you get home from your dry liberal concert, take out your piccolo and play all your favorite Christmas songs.....in fact, start playing Christmas music after the concert on your way to the car. Never miss an opportunity to show your independence or to piss off snooty libs. Play a song dedicated to little Trig....that will lift your spirits.

Thanks for your kind comments everyone. I was talking with my mom on the way home today and was chatting about C4P. I laughed about how I never would have thought I would have all these internet buddies. But, I feel so blessed to have so many friends from my connections here. You all are awesome. God bless.

ladydawnelle, December 10, 2009 8:21 PM

I hope the Palins have time to decorate their OWN abode this year! I bet they are ready to relax and drink some hot cocoa by the fireplace and eat marshmellows and moose/cheese dogs on a spit!! yummmmy said Willow. lol (jealous) here in FLA - no toasting nada!

narciso, December 10, 2009 8:21 PM

Gravel is a lefty, but a principled one, he was one of only two Senators who voted against the Gulf of Tonkin, resolution, so he wasn't a flip flopper like McGovern or McCarthy.

defendAmerica, December 10, 2009 8:37 PM

he worked close with the Guv before she was nominated vp, and then turned on her with the rest of the alaksan dems when she returned. nice to see he might be coming around a little.

they clearly think differently about the world, but when she was guv, there seemed to be respect.

defendAmerica, December 10, 2009 8:38 PM

Can we PLEASE have an evening open thread??? I am getting overwhelmed chasing around between threads!

*WELCOME HOME SARAH!

Tom_Ohio, December 10, 2009 8:43 PM

Thanks is not an expressive enough word to denote what this website and all you contributors and what our Governor has meant to both me and the wifey these months and weeks for the last year or so.
I thereby will have to raise a glass in your honours, not only this evening but during the whole season.
May the future be Joyful for you all !

CruelaDev, December 10, 2009 8:44 PM

I will second that... Coeur D'Alene is AWESOME! Unreal Golf Course!

terri, December 10, 2009 8:57 PM

Tom,
I quit trying to express my thanks long ago...there are no words. :-)

an lifelong democrat-soon-2-B-independent, December 10, 2009 8:59 PM

Yes, Mike Gravel is a one of the very very very few principled Liberals, he is not one of those vicious America hating radical liberals.

He defended Sarah on some Air America show last year over Troopergate. Some radical liberal in San Fransciso was going after Sarah over Troopergate and Mike Gravel said: damn right thing Sarah did, who the hell wants corrupt troopers on the road??

It caught the Air America people completely off guard that a liberal like Mike defended Sarah. He principallly believes in big govt etc, but he is not one of these radical America hating, US miltiary hating liberals. He is one of the veryyy few left.

terri, December 10, 2009 8:59 PM

Emily,

Boy how I looove those Christmas concerts that have no Christmas music. I have sat thru several of them.
You just want to scream by the time you get to the african tribal music....oy!

the democrats in Alaska really did work well with Sarah and seemed to respect her pragmatic approach to governing and willingness to compromise (without abandoning her underlying principles) in order to actually get stuff done.

this of course changed when she ran with john mccain.

PEC, December 10, 2009 9:04 PM

KentonAK are you going to be able to go to one of those book signings? If not will you likely get another chance?

defendAmerica, December 10, 2009 9:04 PM

AM I ALLOWED TO JUST DUB THIS THE EVENING OPEN THREAD???

Zephyr, December 10, 2009 9:08 PM

God Bless You defendAmerica! Please dub away and thank you!

PEC, December 10, 2009 9:09 PM

SHe is very pragmatic when Governing. t was funny but when MacLeod got all of those E-Mails Ben Smith looked through them and was shocked that her spokesperson didn't know her religion (note religion not if she was a christian) and her stance on abortion. Her fath is her own beliefs and she lives it instead of forcing it on others (you catch more flies with sugar than vinegar) and States don't really have many abortion issues so it was never brought up. Politicos Ben Smith was surprised. I guess he got too much news from Keith Olbermann and the Huff Post.

Zephyr, December 10, 2009 9:11 PM

Someone stole the thread I was on. I came back and it was gone. Weird. I guess it was getting to touchy about something.

Zephyr, December 10, 2009 9:15 PM

Defend...do you hear an echo in here?

gelston the knowitall, December 10, 2009 9:22 PM

Manajordan,
I hope I can send you a personal message here.
I appreciate the email you sent inviting me to join you today. I hope you received the one I sent back because it had some personal contact information for you.
There were a few reasons that I did not attend. The biggest were the time constraints of my medical practice (another 16 hour day today) and my poor circulation in my legs. Sarah's book tour did not seem to accommodate people with limitations, which is odd considering her special needs child.

I want to reassure you that I would have loved to meet you after the 18 months of posting together both here and on Adam's site. I hope you know that I think you are a remarkable person and that I think you have a remarkable intellect. I appreciate your faith also.
It is a joy to read about your day meeting Sarah, Manajordan. As others have said, those of us that could not attend lived our own experience through yours. Thank you for your post.
God bless you, my dear friend, and Merry Christmas to you and your family

jimr3, December 10, 2009 9:24 PM

The current high bid on Sarah's Going Rogue jacket now stands at $20,000.00!

GAHanson, December 10, 2009 9:26 PM

MJD Update: Helping Sarah Palinhttp://www.spokesman.com/blogs/hbo/2009/dec/10/mamajd-update-helping-sarah/Here's the best part:MamaJD told Huckleberries Online she was amazed that the only prominent Republican she saw in line was Ruthie Johnson. “The most remarkable thing about the book signing,” she said, “was that everyone is so unremarkable.” Common people turned out to see Palin, not big shots, she said. Some people were so excited to meet Sarah Palin, MamaJD said, that they had tears in their eyes, including Vietnam War veterans. “I don’t know about her political prowess,” MamaJD said, “but there’s something mesmerizing about her. She’s a warm person who has an energy about her.”

MarkRNY, December 10, 2009 9:39 PM

Wait a minute! If I got my home town to declare an official Wasilla day, do you think she'd make one more stop?? I can get it done!....I'll threaten to move back! What's one more stop?! (I'm grasping at straws here).

Thanks for the tour Sarah. Even from a distance I felt like I was there--and the people on this site had a lot to do with it! Thank you all too!

Lipstick, December 10, 2009 9:48 PM

I played the flute in high school, just like the Guv. I kept my flute for years, then about 4 years ago I donated it to a children's home that was asking for band instruments for their kids to have to use in school if they wanted to be in band. I have a boy and thought he would not want to ever play the flute. What better way for it to be put to a good use!

Lipstick, December 10, 2009 9:51 PM

I suppose I DO live in the Bible belt. My son and I were Christmas shopping today for my hubby. There was a Christmas song playing in the store. He sighed and said "Man, I am so sick of Christmas music." I asked him why and he said they had a concert today at school. The high school choir and band came and did a Christmas concert. He said he had already heard way to much Christmas music for one day.

KentonAK, December 10, 2009 10:01 PM

PEC- I don't have a military pass so likely wouldn't get in. But who knows?:Maybe I'll see her (with 'Going Rogue' in hand) at Wasilla's Walmart next time she's buying diapers for Trig. :-)

Lipstick, December 10, 2009 10:08 PM

Well, since this has been dubbed the open thread I won't mention this is OT:

I am really nervous about my run in the morning. I have an issue with my left foot, big toe actually. I took today off and plan to wrap it with tape and gut it out in the morning. I am planning to do my normal 5 but I can back out at 4 miles and not feel like I quit.

I am so addicted. I feel so in control, powerful, peaceful and free when I run. My body is working perfectly and I CAN run that last mile, this gives me a sense of accomplishment every day. Plus, I have my best, most focused prayer times when I run. Hate to have to take a few days off...GRRRRRRRRR I hate getting old.

OK, just think about me in the morning that my toe cooperates. I won't give you the gross medical details. You don't have to thank me for that.....

johnmd, December 10, 2009 10:17 PM

I wonder whats going to happen with the bus now that the tour is over. Do Sarah and Todd own it , is it leased or does the book company own it? It would be a great draw in any future plans she has.

manajordan, December 10, 2009 10:54 PM

Gelston,

Thanks so much. Merry Christmas to you too. I did not actually receive your email. You could try me again at manajordan@comcast.net

Thanks for being a friend these past 18 months.

A, December 11, 2009 7:56 PM

I think it is rented with a Sarah skin that will be replaced with... something... for the next gig - A rap tour maybe?
