Sarah Palin, Man of the Year
Don Surber names Governor Sarah Palin as this year's "man of the year".
She endured the most and came to symbolize the majority of American citizens who are stunned by the attempt to rapidly dismantle this great nation of ours and transform it into another Euro-weenie socialist country that apologizes for trying to save the rest of the world over the years.
...
The personal attacks on Mrs. Palin this year were so vile that if she were the Rutgers women’s basketball team, David Letterman would have lost his job. But CBS put profits above decency. Letterman had no problem calling her a slut and her daughter a slut on national TV; it upped his ratings as liberal misogyny is alive and well and profitable.
His offer of a half-assed apology with an invitation to come on his show and boost his ratings was met with an the iciest No of the year, so cold that it actually shocked him into giving a real apology.
Mrs. Palin moved on, marching to the beat of the American drummer. She caught hell from the left for another year, and began firing back. Her Facebook posts are well-written and thought out. Tagging Obamacare as having “death panels” rattled the lefty cages and woke up Americans to the rationing of health care that was right around the bend.
...
The little potty-mouthed drones on the left think they are so sophisticated as they mock 14-year-old girls, babies with Down syndrome and people who shop at Wal-Mart. The Washington Post’s book reviewer bragged that she did not read Sarah Palin’s book. Ignorance is now a status symbol for the left.
Read the rest of Don Surber's article here. You will really like it.
My two favorite quotes from the article are:
They are trying to stop the hurricane with a beach umbrella.
and
Naming Sarah Palin as Man of the Year is the only logical conclusion to a year when Americans who petitioned their government for a redress of grievances were smeared as “un-American” by the people who are temporarily in charge.
We all need to remember that the liberals are only temporarily in charge. Governor Palin has already dedicated herself in 2010 to make sure the liberals power grab is only temporary. We all need to do the same.
Happy New Year! Bring on 2010.

"Man Of The Year"...most appropriate since she has more "balls" than most. ;>0
I can't wait for 2010. The tsunami is just getting started.
There was an interesting head line at Hot Air just now: gun sales up: murders down. It looks like more and more people are arming themselves for the Constitutional reason.
This is what Sarah would be up against should she win. The man knows how to deal with terrorists.
I found my moving buddy, well, politically speaking, that is.
Rare blue moon to ring in New Year's, hmmmmm
I'm probably the only one who didn't appreciate Don Furber's essay. It had some good aspects, but some really patronizing annoying parts as well. How old is this guy? He seems like he's patting Sarah on the head.
I did not appreciate that he called her a "naive hockey mom" and labeled her resignation decision a "misstep" ... or that he said the only challenge left for her was whether people would think she was "too pretty" to be president.
Icky ick ick.
Sorry.
I loved the article, sorry RD
My favorite redneck talk radio guys, Rick & Bubba, said during the election that Sarah Palin was the only man running out of all the candidates.
Img,
Read that over at American Thinker. He is one stone cold guy.
You don't have to love him or even like him...but you definately have to respect him. Something I wish our CIC radiated.
"<span>Russian Premier Vladimir Putin is not a nice guy. He is belligerent, steely-eyed, cold, and plain-spoken. He says exactly what he means, and is not afraid of the repercussions from the international media or anyone else. I'm sure that the current American "leadership" sickens him with its pathetic political correctness.
Putin answered a question about his attacks against Chechnya Islamic terrorists in a 2008 G-8 </span><span>press conference</span><span>. His response was direct and cold as ice. Essentially, allowing for translation inaccuracies, he said if you come into Russia we'll cut your n*ts off.
</span><span>The video</span><span> of this is awe inspiring. It is very "Dirty Harry" ala Clint Eastwood. There is no doubt where he stands, and he doesn't care what anyone else in the room thinks. This is a leader. You may not like him, but you have to respect him.
Contrast this with our "fearless leader" Obama. Three full days after the event, he finally addresses the nation from a Marine base in Hawaii. He starts </span><span>the speech</span><span>, "Hey, guys." Hey, guys? What is this, another friendly "shout out" to his vacation pals in Hawaii?
His rhetoric is vintage milquetoast. It inspires nothing. He ends with, "Thank you very much, everybody, and Happy New Year." WHAT? We are being attacked! What don't you understand about flaming explosive underwear?
Our great country is withering and dying in many ways, but the most obvious one is the lack of any credible leadership. Putin and Obama are similar in that they are both pathological narcissists. The contrast between the two is the difference between Andy Taylor and Barney Fife."</span>
RD, like you, and me (30 years ago), Surber is also a recovering Democrat, and yeah he is an older "old-media" (i.e. newspaper) guy. I hesitate to speak for Don, but I suspect he called her naive in the context of lost innocence.
He said: "She is of them — a hockey mom who <span>is</span> naive, unsophisticated and learning just how rotted from within America’s political system has become."
What I think he meant: "She is of them — a hockey mom who <span>was</span> naive, and unsophisticated, but learned just how rotted from within America’s political system has become.
That, to me, is the story of every Recovering Democrat, and every Evolving Republican.
She also said in a FB post that KSM and the other 9/11 conspirators should be hung high. After that Jonathon Martin got his thong in a wad and said how irresponsible Sarah was in her discourse.
More like the difference between Hannibal Lechter and Barney Fife.
Here is where I ran across the article There is more on how Obama is blowing it with the Russians.
The new year and the "new normal".
Thus endeth the year of 2009 and Sarah has risen like the phoenix after her fateful resignation on July 3rd. Her memoir was the divine spark that has transformed the public's perception of her and radically shifted the political paradigm of our nation. It's no longer whether she will be the nominee of the GOP, but whether she wants to be that nominee.
For the liberals, Sarah has earned their grudging respect and even some subconscious admiration. (Note the comment of Clarence Page after the now famous Gridiron event, which I believe was also a seminal moment.)
As for Obama, he has shriveled into a pathetic, miniaturized cardboard cutout. Even the Democrats no longer heed his calls and the conservatives no longer need to make deals with him. His once soaring speeches now ring hollow and become a mimicry of self-mockery. Already there are whispers among the liberals to have someone else as their nominee in 2012. (That's why the Gallup contorted the data to have Hillary chosen as the most admired woman of the year, in order to build her up as the viable replacement.)
So the "new normal" is upon us as we enter the new year and beyond and things actually look very hopeful for us, the COMMON SENSE CONSERVATIVES.
I am very optimistic, indeed.
VIVA SARAH !
I think Mr. Surber will get the resignation soon, when these 3 thoughts that he wrote, come together in his mind. Right now, it seems as if these sentences are in his writing, but have not been put together, to see her humble character, her selflessness, and her point guard vision.
1) "Many of us remain puzzled by her decision to resign abruptly as the Governor of Alaska."
2) She stood up for what is right and held her head high as she marched forward - ever forward."
3) "They love her being of the people, by the people and for the people."
He sees her resignation as a misstep, but he applauds her for the "death panels" phrase. She would never have been able to make that post within the walls that her enemies had put her in.
This idea of resigning for the good of the people she served, is a foreign concept to the Alinskyites, that were counting on shackling her to the title of Governor of Alaska. To place that mantle in someone else's hands, for the good of the people, never occurred to the Alinskyites. If anything that was a time to high five each other, and believe her move to step aside was a death knell for her ability to hurt them. But, instead it has blown up in their faces. She would never have been able to write the book in such a timely manner, and she would have felt guilt the whole time, because of the spirit of the people that lives in her heart. She never would have been allowed to go on the book tour, to the Gridiron Dinner, on Conan, or been able write any Facebook posts, in the manner we love, and that hurts Washington D.C. the most.
I believe these people that don't get her resignation, will, because they are placing these types of titles upon her. When the resignation, and the servant of the people that she is, come together, it will be the last piece of the puzzle for their unwavering support of her.
<span>
<p>Sarah... Dude of the year.
</p><p>
</p><p>Todd ... Iron Dude of the year?
</p></span>
Thanks DanO, but with all due respect, I think Sarah is shrewd, not naive. I would never use "naive" as a description of her. Since her earliest days on the Wasilla city council she has played hardball with dick heads. (pardon my French). She's not surprised by rotten behavior. She expects it and has always been a complete realist.
I disliked the overall tone of the essay which to me came off as praising an eager underling instead of admiring a steadfast superior.
To say that Sarah is unsophisticated misses the mark. Her accomplishments suggest that she is savvy beyond words. How else would she have brought big oil to its knees and sent Murkowski and the lobbyists packing?
Unpretentious or straightforward is a better description of Sarah than unsophisticated.
She's not an ignorant country bumpkin who stumbled into power. She's a powerhouse with unimpeachable integrity who rose to power because she knows instinctively how to use it for public good.
And finally: Sarah may come off as "one of us." But she is NOT. She has more heart, courage, talent, and determination than anyone we've seen in a long, long time.
It's like saying Michael Phelps is "one of us" because he has two arms and two legs just like us, and most of us know how to doggy paddle.
Um, no.
Sorry, Don. Even in your praise, you're underestimating Sarah.
Just my opinion.
That was a fairly good article.
I agree with his overall assessment. Though I also agree with RD that there was some patronizing parts.
I actually really enjoyed reading the comments afterwards. Alot of people commented on the resignation and seemed to really understand why she did it.
Surber has been pretty solid, yes he still hasn't fully processed the resignation yet. Now Putin is a formidable foe, a commited czar in all but crown, and not one of the nice one's either. He is eating Obama's lunch for him
Excellent points, Nancy. I think that's what frustrated me with his piece. He's praising Sarah, but really missing out on some of her shrewdness and intelligence. She is a master chess player. She innately understands the enemy. Resigning was a check-mate maneuver. She was willing to sacrifice a valuable piece (the governorship) in order to advance and attack the enemy in a stronger position.
Pelosi enjoys privacy in Hawaii, when Palin was hounded off the island
and will gleefully poop it down his neck.
Musings on a slow and easy afternoon in a light hearted spirit:
Sarah becomes POTUS. Goes on to become one of the greats. America shines brightest and prosperity and freedom reign across our land.
Future generations put up her likeness on Rushmore, next to the Gipper.
How would they have done her hair? Up like a queen? Or flowing down with a goddess look?
How would they have done her signature eyeglasses?
Would she be smiling her magnificently beautiful smile or striking a more serious look with the heroic majesty of a great historical figure?
One thing certain. Future generations would envy us for having lived in the times of the Great Sarah Palin.
See how lucky we are!!!
Happy New Year To All and ...
VIVA SARAH !
Very insightful comments Nancy.
RD love your analogy to chess. I have always said Sarah is playing chess while her enemies are playing checkers.
RD,
I have appreciated your comments on this article so much. I read what you wrote on the open thread, and now have gone over your comments, again, here. Although, I did not get the same vibe from Mr. Surber as you did, I understand where you are coming from, and I totally agree with you, on your points. I loved your words: unpretentious and straightforward. Great descriptions. And I love your analogy to Michael Phelps. You really know how to express yourself, so well. I really loved that picture you painted with your words. Because it is so true!
Anyway, I think what made her naive, and I (this may be me projecting onto Mr. Surber what I mean) mean naive, like this. When she walked on stage on August 29, 2008, she was ready to share her life, family, and vision for the country, with the American people. She believed her skeleton in the closet was her D in college. I think she and we, were unprepared for the vicisiousness, and absolute evil with which the media would attack her. I think she had more faith in the media than she realizes now they deserved. Also, if you look at the way the media attacked, President Bush, everything that was Bush's fault, in the media's eyes, were about policy, not family. So, to have everything about her life, and especially her family, be skeet for the media, was mind blowing to her, to me, too.
I agree with you that she knows how to deal with jerks:) and from her public servanthood until August 29, 2008, and then from November 5, 2008 to the present, she has shown that she is not afraid to go anywhere, and everywhere, and use whatever weapon she has, to fight this evil. I think the campaign was an abberation of how she would deal with her enemies. And so these next few years, are going to be a joy to watch her operate, and show the people that have this "too pretty to be president" type of attitude, that there are no questions about her capabilities.
I understand your attitude toward this article, even though I did not read it this way, I appreciate what you said, and agree with you on your points. Thanks, RD for your perspective here. You are a blessing to C4P.

My Dear Friends in Sarah,
I would like to wish you all a Most Blessed New Year!!!
The fellowship of prayer, of intellectual acuity and stimulation, and of plain 'ole good fun on this site have helped sustain me through the winding course of a most difficult '09. You are all the best of friends!
2010 should be great.
We have so much to look forward to as the Lord continues to reveal to us the luminous greatness and beauty of soul of His servant, Sarah Palin of Alaska!! Adversity and challenges just make her stand taller and fight harder...and win our hearts and loyalty and love more and more and more with each passing day!!
God bless you all!!!
SARAH Domination in 2010; SARAH 2012!!!!
In fellowship and union of prayer and combat,
Brianus
...and, Mia, I did see your remarks...I am SO glad you got the good news...since you are on vacation, I was afraid you might never see it...Happy New Year!!
By the judging the actions of Sarah I suspect that she may have read The Art of War by Sun Tsu for she makes some tactically and strategiclly brillant moves over her career in office and now, that or it's instinctual, either way it's an excellent quality in a leader.
Brianus,
You are a sweetheart!
Happy New Year, dear friend!:)
Hey Bestbud are you here? Did you ever get your message through?
I think he would have reworded that one sentence if he could because the rest was pretty solid. I think he is looking at it more from she doesn't understand or care for the I scratch you back so you scratch mine Political world. We are all that way and call us Naive or smart we don't like it when our money is wasted for a favor that gets a bill through congress.
I loved RD's description of how we are in relation to Governor Palin. Like we compare to Michael Phelps! We have the same limbs, but come on, he is freakish in his talents.
That is how I feel about Governor Palin. I am Sarah Palin, but yet, not even close. She is talented beyond belief, I think the only things that anchor her and I together are our moral beliefs, spiritual beliefs, and common sense beliefs. To have what she has for the direction of her life's work, is God touched. God has a wider scope of influence laid out for her, than for me, in my neighborhood, community, church. I think that is why in some ways I think wow, she is so normal, but on the other hand, I admire her from afar, shaking my head in amazement at her talent, savvy, spirit, and humbleness.
Again, I would not be good on Twitter.
It's been said that 'hot lead' is a language.
...and, I GOTTA see those COWBOY BOOTS!!!
yep, even clearer than the Latin language...as in "Don't Tread on Me"!!!
RecoveringD, love it, especially this: "She has more heart, courage, talent, and determination than anyone we've seen in a long, long time."
BINGO...Happy New Year!!
OT: I know nobody watches Smarmy Rick Sanchez, but he usually has people's tweets on the bottom of the screen. I am seeing very hateful comments about Rush being broadcasted for all people to see, albeit people watching in waiting rooms or at airports. Keep up the good work CNN, I hope you fail!
As lame as his imperial lameness may be, it's the agenda, stupid! <span>I think by now most people get it. He just happens to be the dunce they elected.</span>
A surprising number of so called smart people don't seem to get it. Maybe they're not so smart.
A lot of pro Sarah people are very slow processing why Sarah resigned. Heck go back to C4P on 3 July. For hours it was like shock here. We follow (for the most part) only one public Servant and it took us a few hours to comprehend (of course then came the Crossing the Rubicon post and all of our feet were wet). These people hang around Washington Insiders and there is not an Insider that would say she made the right political move. HEck Greta still likes Sarah but still has not grasp why Sarah resigned. They see things through the prism of doing things because they are the best political move. Sarah does not see things the same way as she is a public servant. At the end of the day he is firmly on board and that is what really matters. They understand what the Ordinary AMericans see in Sarah. It is as if Don, Greta and others still remember their early years and what life was like before becoming insiders and always give that prism a look also. This is rare when success goes to peoples head. They forget how they got to where they are or they were an Anderson Cooper who was born with a Silver Spoon and has never departed from it. I don't worry about Sarah's resignation and whether people think it is right or not. The important thing is do they understand her philosophy. As I have stated before Going Rogue was less a policy book but more of a what my philosophy and principles book. Philosophy and principles are way more important than policies as situations can dictate different policies but how they approach situations (principles and philosophy) does not. Back to my original point that is what Surber understands.
Thank you, and God bless you!
Great points PEC. I agree that philosphy and principles are more important than policy. If you don't have any principles how are you supposed to make policy?
I'm heading out now. I have to be an Alter server at 5 PM New Year's Eve mass. I will catch you all later!
Earlier Defcon66 had said that Sarah had read Sun Tsu's "Art of War". The interesting thing is I woke up this morning and my wife and I watched an Old Movie for a while. At one point I started using a situation from a Napoleonic Campaign and I told my wife that everything in life can be summed up during the Napoleonic Wars. Of course she gave me an eye roll but if you study these Campaigns and the success and failures from all sides you would know what I am talking about.
Oh the movie was a Chick Flick but I actually enjoy it. It is "You've Got Mail" with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. There was an interesting scene in it that Meg talks about "Change". You could clip it out and use as an advertisement. I am going to buy it to get the exact scene. It describes Obama perfectly.
Sarah Palin, Man of the Year.
Well, it fits! Especially after Ms magazine put a picture of Obama on the cover with the title: This is what Feminism looks like."
Ha!

Nancy
Terrific post... yours and RD's insight is illuminating... I appreciate you both and your perspective as women, so like Sarah!... I see under-appreciated, underestimated and self-righteousness rear it's ugly head with all the vitriol thrown Sarah's way... have called it elitist from some... but the worst is when it comes from those, male or female who do not fit the elitists status but just Ignorant Neanderthals... as Sarah likes to call them! Men and Women alike encounter this lowest form of under-appreciation, underestimation and self-righteousness(which is the worst)!
The good thing about the Neanderthal types, they seem to fall prey to old stereotype thinking and get boastful and brash... hung up on their-selves and ripe for the pick-en buy women like Sarah, Nancy, Lipstick, and Recovering Democratic... and all you other gals here on C4P(sorry not to name you all but I mean everyone of you here)... I love you all for It!... as an older gentlemen(I may be boasting the gentlemen part), I have to laugh to myself when I see older guys talk this way... cause their day will come, as did many in Alaska, when they meet you Sarah types face to face and you rip them one!
May the botox queen get a nasty sunburn.
Right on RD!... go,go,go
We’re down to the last 2.5 hours of 2009 on this side of the pond and as is customary in my family we all go out on New Year’s Eve and make fools of ourselves, I am going out now. So to all you guys go out have some fun. 2010 is HERE!
Happy New Year! And God Bless you all!
Sheya
Brianus
Happy New Year to you my friend!... great post!, my sentiments completely!... you have certainly done your part in making this site and this year one to thank God for!
God Bless You.
Have fun and Happy New Year Sheya.
YES! finally!... I tried a shorter message and It worked!... must have been too long... I exceeded their character count or some such thing.
Thanks for the help... Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Sheya, and have a good time. Thanks for all you do here at C4P.
Oh my gosh! LOL! Did that shirt come with a matching pair of Depends?
I agree.
VIVA SARAH !
It's so old news. So stale.
How many times must we have to say that Sarah's resignation is a stroke of genius. (Willie Brown actually was the first to say that.)
VIVA SARAH !
Nancy
Hey!... I spent a day with you remember!... so much like Sarah your are... I would call It God touched...your life, I saw It and felt It and thought... like I do my own Daughter and her two daughters and boy... the women of this country are going to correct the mess men have made of things!
Disgusting of CNN!
Glenn Beck says in Common Sense that gun sales are how you gauge the trust people have in their government!
Nancy, thanks for your kind words. You are the QUEEN of the threads, here, and I have such admiration for you. I definitely think you're right about Sarah not expecting the media treatment she got, although she showed that she understood the true nature of the Obama candidacy much better than even the "seasoned veterans" on the McCain campaign.
It's possible I over-reacted just a tad to the few offending sentences in this essay. I have little tolerance for the patronizing arrogance shown toward Sarah, even on our side. I've been known to shout obscenities at the TV whenever a conservative commentator suggests that Sarah just needs to keep her head down and "study up." In fact, every time I heard this over the last 12 months, I reminded myself to kick in extra money to SarahPAC.
No offense to our wonderful male Palinites, but all this goes along with my theory that a woman has to work twice as hard, for twice as long, to be taken half as seriously as a man.
I am not an old-school feminist. I don't mind having the door opened for me. I love my husband. I love men in general. They're a blast.
Sarah is showing that she can hang with the fellows while retaining her femininity. And Nancy, I agree that it will be a JOY to watch her operate. Can you even wait to see their heads explode when she absolutely DESTROYS her competition in the debates???
Let them continue underestimating her all the way to Pennsylvania Ave.
At some point, someone's gonna say: "Sarah stop studying up. It's not fair to the rest of us."
Ha ha ha ha ha ha
Sarah could write a new war manual:
The Art of Slaying Your Opponent in Stiletto Heels
ha ha ha ha
So, I'm just wondering which of these actions most define Obama's feminist cred:
- blocking the signature petitions of thousands of women for a woman candidate, incumbent Alice Palmer, so he could take her seat as a state senator
- unsealing the divorce record of a prominent actress, humiliating her and her husband, so he could win the husband's seat as a U.S. senator
- unleashing dozens of operatives to Alaska to dig up dirt on Alaska's first woman governor and the GOP's first woman VP candidate
Then, of course, there's these little gems:
- paying his female staff 75 cents for every dollar paid to male staffers
- not inviting women to play basketball or golf with him
- calling his grandmother a typical white person
Thanks for reminding me to send money to SarahPAC. I want to end the year well!
Thanks, cookboy...God bless!!
Bestbud,
Thank you, dear friend!! Again, have a most blessed 2010!!!
Brianus
What a years it's been guys. From Obama to Mrs. Palin's resignation to the book tour. It's been a great year. God has sent hope into our world! Can't wait to see what next year brings.
Thanks, PEC. Yes, philosophy and principles dictate and form and establish one's particular policies and practices in a given situation; however, "first things," principles, are paramount!!
Dear Sheya,
Happy New Year to and yours too!!!
Brianus
Thanks, and Happy New Year, Mrs. TJ!!!!
RD,
Yes! You are so awesome! Your point about her knowing the true nature of the Obama candidacy! Oh man, she had him and the whole leftist mindset nailed from the very beginning! That will serve her well in the years to come, when (I pray), she runs her own campaign!
Also, please, don't apologize for the way you read the article. We all come from different perspectives, and because of your background, you see things in a much more realist prism, whereas, I might be more naive about this attitude, because I live in a more sheltered community. Do you know what I mean? I value your opinion, because I might be looking at things, from a world of conservative friends, family and community, whereas you and others are dealing with this kind of thinking every day.
And, when she gets in those debates, and isn't surronded by the idiot campaign staff of last year's election, watch out! And I will have a huge grin on my face the whole time! Last night I watched the rerun of her on Conan, and I must have looked like an idiot. Because I had the biggest grin on my face the whole time!
She makes me proud. Like if you have something really special, that you can't wait to show other people, that is how I feel about her, like we all have this incredibly, fantastic secret, and slowly people are finding out about it. It is the beginning of a huge moment in history, and we were here from the beginning.
Thank you for your kind, kind words, RD!
And thank you for the thought provoking conversation! I am so glad you had the faith in C4P, to tell us your feelings, even though you knew they wouldn't be the majority opinion. It makes me so thankful for you and proud all the people that make up the community of C4P.
Happy New Year Sheya!
I thought that this was a good article, but Recovering Democrat, you're right. This guy was very patronizing, and he underestimates Sarah as well.
You know what? The more the pundocracy underestimates Sarah, the more she can surprise RINOs and Lefties by backing Conservative candidates in 2010. The tea party movement will back candidates that Sarah backs, and more often than not, those candidates will WIN!
Mom in Wisconsin
Sheya
Darn!... I've missed getting this to you on time, I think!... If so, Hope your having fun with friends and family and being fools... Happy New Year!
Mrs. T
Right!... Hope we can count on... Happy New Year
Thanks, Mom, and Happy New Year!!
Brianus
Rightmindedmom
Underestimation... has been one of Sarah's challenges from day one in her Public service life... many a guy in Alaska can attest to It... she gets them just where she wants... then BOOM!... the night stick!
Happy New Year all... good night
I'm back and I had a great time, we went out to eat then we were supposed to get on to the London Eye (which is a big Ferris Wheel, owned by british Airway) which is located on the edge of the River Themes.
