Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. I’ve pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child. Conspiracy-minded reporters and voters had a right to ask... which they have repeatedly. But at no point – not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews – have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States.

Do people not have listening or reading comprehension? She basically stated that if people want to ask questions about the Pres.'s birth certificate they can. It's that old saying we have, "It's a free country." She said she wouldn't make an issue out of it. She's fine. Plus, she's got cover...see Andrew Sullivan's constant harping on her son's origin. Please. If they come at Palin with this she'll come right back at them with the Trig Truther jackassery. Bring it I say.

He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and a 155mm howitzer.
He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must.
He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional.
He can march until he is told to stop, or stop until he is told to march.
He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient.
He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry.
He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.
If you’re thirsty, he’ll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He’ll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low.
He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands.
He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job. He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay, and still find ironic humor in it all. He has seen more suffering and death than he should have in his short lifetime. He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed.
He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to ‘square-away’ those around him who haven’t bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking.
In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful.
Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is paying the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.
He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding.
Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood.
And now we even have women over there in danger, doing their part in this tradition of going to War when our nation calls us to do so.
As you go to bed tonight, remember this. A short lull, a little shade, and a picture of loved ones in their helmets.

Funny that you said that. I've gotten the same impression that she enjoys the combat of politics. I've known people with similar mind-sets (in different contexts). They can be tough customers, because the rest of us tend to require some courage to handle ourselves in a fight. For them it's like breathing air. Viva Barracuda.

Okay this is Sarah's fan site and I do support her 100% but there is a lesson here about discipline. Stay on message. Her message is love of country, free market principles, smaller government, strong national defense, and a pro-America foreign policy. I love how she calls it like she sees it, but she needs to call her issues as she sees them, and Obama's birth certificate is not her issue. As silly as it may sound, if someone asks about Obama's birth certificate, the right asnwer is we need to drill in ANWR. Her climategate facebook post was her best attack yet on Obama, she slyly tied him to the e-mails to discredit cap and trade. Very sadly that was overshadowed by this distraction. Hopefully a lesson learned.

Also, people should actually hear this interview, it was an AWESOME interview, one of the best she has done..she talked about illegal immigration and other things. Instead of people focusing on that, they focus on just a few words, just listen to the interview, it was AWESOME

Give this lady some credit folks, she knows what she's doing and is becoming very adept at dealing with these media and blogger sychophants of Barry's. She's well aware that she's being closely watched for gaffes, anything to pin on her to discredit her but she is as her book implies, a rogue of politics and plays by her own rules. Ted, I respectfully disagree with you here. I don't think she should dodge the "controversies". The first question was if SHE ran was SHE going to bring up the birth certificate. Her answer was "no". People who claim otherwise are being disingenuous or simply not listening. Some dishonest people out there took her words from an outsanding interview and twisted them. It's a shame. I would suggest to anyone that they should listen to the full interview. It was great. Quite frankly, it says more about Obama than Palin when she (or anyone else) has to walk on eggshells when the topic of Obama's past comes up for fear of being painted as a loon. That's not right, and that in the end is Palin's point I believe.
Wow. That HotAir thread was just insane. Many of the old ugly trolls popped up and would not listen to reason at all. They were heavily outnumbered, but persistent. The best part was that Jim Treacher was in there all night, and he had his troll smashing boots on like I haven't seen in a long time. This will die down soon. Some people there said that HuffPo and DKos had picked this thing up tonight, but Politico's take was much more reasonable. Given the outright denial of birtherism straight from the LTOTUS tonight, tomorrow's cycle will be much easier to kill this story off for good and get back on the message that matters, like the excellent climategate post and Sarah's visit to Ft. Hood, TX.

In some ways I think she was right in raising it. The media protect Obama (not just BC - associations, academic career), and just dismiss out of hand any concerns they deem politically incorrect, labelling people dismissively as birthers/teabaggers/climate deniers etc, and that is not democracy.

Hmm, I would suspect the national broadcasters wouldn't bother with this. Afterall, Sarah Palin has clearly explained it - it would be an outright lie for the media to spin this. It seems to be stuck with some far-left websites like the Huffington Post and Daily Kos. Then again, a channel like MSNBC may spin this to their advantage.
Just to make a interesting observation, as a Brit who likes to get his news about American affairs from American sources, it strikes me that on both sides logic, reason and sense often fly out of the window in order to attack someone they don't like. A perfect example of this is whenever Sarah says anything, certain media groups lie and spin the truth, as is the case with this Trig/Obama example.
I have to say that this happens to Obama and those on the left too. Sometimes criticism of them is nothing more than spin. I think by being smeared a "birther" there aren't any insults left to call her!

All excellent points and a good reason why the media (and I use the term loosely) wont pursue this about birther business because it draws attention to their messiah.
Just think, if Ram had not stamped out the one or two birthers that kept trolling here earlier this year, C4P might have been ignored by Gov. Palin as being irrevelant. Nobody is going to give a shout out to conspiracy supporters.
Can we all just be tolerant of others withdifferening opinions. AT the end of the day Gov. Palin can win if she has independents, some dems, conservatives and republicans.
We should learn to deflect criticism with humor or sarcasm. No need for personal insults. We are here because we all support Gov.Palin. I've alwaus said Talk show host are out to make headlines when any politicans go on those shows, you have to lead and think carefully of what you say.
Having said that, I think the Gov did the right thing by clearing up her statements with a facebook post. However, I would not have called it stupid Conspiracies. I detest that word stupid. People have everyright right to raise issues. Next time hopefully when a politican is asked that question, they will simply say it is a constitutional issue and all candidates must prove they are eligble to run for President. I know Obama has release his short form birth certificate. To this date, I don't think anyone has seen the long form one. However, I have no doubt he is an AMERICAN CITIZEN!
I only wished she had digged Obama a little more about his refusal to disclose his college transcripts, full medical records.

This is evidence why 21st c technology is so important to the political future of Sarah Palin. Rapid, cogent responses in this day and age are key. Look at what is happening to Tiger Woods now; if he had come clean about his affairs right after the accident, he might have blunted the damage, but now it is too late.
I don't get why everyone is all tied up about this.....She didn't say he need to produce a BC, she just said basically that its up to the electorate and said that it was fair game since she had to deal with her own conspriracies in her life by media folks...she made light of it at the end....
The media would have found something else to talk about 'Controversal Sarah' like they always do...I was fully expecting a issue with the Ft Hood bus tour, some reporter or blogger probably had some article all ready trying to slam her with something on it.

Yes. One thing the "nerds" don't understand either, is that via Facebook Sarah communicates not just with her FB friends, but also with all the blogs and sites that support her . Eg Here at C4P and FR, and all their members. The impact of her FB postings is considerable.
Very true but what the "media" and bloggers have been doing to Sarah with these incessent attacks over trivialites or just out and out lies has destroyed what credibility any of them may have had left if they had any at all. Like crying wolf.
It's getting old with all this crap that still being questioned. Instead of investigating the real scandles like ACORN, Climate Hoax ... the lame stream media is still focusing on a private citizen - Sarah. Stick to the Issues of the day. A good politician always learn to navigate around those hot button topics. We have more important things to discuss. Her posting on Climate Gate is what should have been making the rounds today. It really was a good read. Even bloggers can help by sticking to the issues. Some rigth wing blogs and Talk Shows are becoming like tabloids and gossip sights. Hard news is not dedated. I am sick of reading about Tiger, JOy Behar or Jon Stewart. Let the liberals focus on that.
Bloggers and Talk Shows hosts have the ability to drive the news if they stick to the Hard news story about this administration big spending and policies. Finally people are waking up to the difference between MAN MADE GLOBAL WARMING and Natural Cyclic Changes in Climate patterns.
We need to pound it in that conservatives are not deniers of CLimate Change. But rather we don't believe Man is the inheritant cause of Climate Change. We have no problem with policies such as clean coal, safer drilling techniques, predator controls when needed etc

I hear what you're saying, however, I took the "Stupid Conspiracies" title as a comment specifically for the people who purposely take her words and twist them around to start false rumors. (ie that she's a birther, blah blah). The actions of these disingenuous persons are indeed "stupid" (see some examples of this in the Hot Air thread). But alas it happens all the time because people are afraid of her and the positive impact she is having on the American consciousness via Conservatism. She wasn't directing the "stupid" at people who have genuine questions. She supports the electorate's right to raise issues. After all that was her whole point in the interview.

Politically speaking, the Going Rogue tour has been an unparalleled success with Huckabee's 'decisions' being the cherry on the top. I know I repeat myself often and you folks at C4P get tired of it but there are some numbers that bear repeating: from PPP Sarah is now favored by 87% of conservative Republicans and 84% of independent conservatives, and don't forget that PPP is a Democratic polling outfit. Many of these new 'recruits' IMHO have come on board in the last 3 weeks due to the Going Rogue tour and the publicity and fanfare surrounding it, including the many interviews Sarah Palin has conducted to explain reintroduce herself to Americans and to explain her conservative philosophy, beliefs and positions.
This issue had the potential to drive some of these newcomers away. The Facebook post IMHO has nipped this possibility in the bud and allowed Sarah to continue on 'picking up political points' as she resonates whereever she stops to sign copies of Going Rogue.
But this should be a lesson not only for her but ordinary barbarians as well. It is important that we support Sarah on a 24/7 basis but it is just as important IMHO that we not bury our heads in the sand and try to convince ourselves that something didn't happen or is not amiss or most likely will not have any impact on public perception but instead to 'keep it politically real'; over 1200 posts at HA on this subject is living proof that this is an issue that inflames the passions of many and that politicians, like Sarah, should eschew and instead deal with more substantive issues like global warming, the economy, Afghanistan and healthcare.

This was a nice walk-back, but I have to say she really stepped in it. I just heard about this issue and read the transcript. Her initial response to the question was clumsily worded and she does appear to give at least some credence to the "birther" conspiracy therories out there. Gov. Palin sometimes gives winding and somewhat disjointed answers to questions, a fault she shares with Ronald Reagan. And it got him into trouble sometimes, too. Unfortunately for her, she has to contend with the Internet, YouTube, and 24-hour cable news cycles, where Reagan did not. Her quick Facebook response can help her blunt the controversy a bit, but she will have to keep responding to this issue for some time. And, it is of her own doing. I love Gov. Palin to death and would storm the gates of Hell with her if she asked, but we have to be willing to admit when she messes up.
Techno, I have to disagree with you somewhat. The Facebook post does help, but the MSM and lefty Internet sites will harp on the initial response to the question and that will get the most play. She'll just have to work that much harder to counter it.
The MSM will not touch this story. If they do, they will have to prove that they did indeed have evidence of Obama Long Form Papers. Only the bloggers will run with it. Marke my words, not one MSM will raise this issue.

Are you saying unforced error SCSoxFan? I'm borderline on this. In one respect she was asked the question not once but twice by Rusty Humphries. It was her answer to the second question on the subject which raised all this hullabaloo IMHO. So in that respect I cannot call it entirely an unforced error, but I will say she should not have amplified her explanation when asked the second question and compared it to Obama's past associations. That is where the waters were muddied. I know she continued and alluded to the McCain-Palin campaign not responding properly to some issues such as Jeremiah Wright and that in Going Rogue and in interviews she comments that the public then was forced to ask questions on it own. But I don't think that idea came across very well. So that is why I'm glad she clarified her answer and that we can all put it to rest now (although the MSM will run with it for a few days) knowing that Sarah has nipped the 'affair' in the bud and not alienated some of her new supporters.
It should be part a wider look at the lack of transparencies, they are making the Secret Service fall on it's sword for the Salahis's associate of Obama's friend, Dr. Khalidi, the falsity of the stimulus, the nongenuine nature of the health care plan,
Politico (which is pseudo-LSM) ran with it.
I think we are now into nuance. I did acknowledge in my post that the MSM will run with the story for a few days and I tried to make the point that Facebook rapid response helped to nip 'the controversy' in the bud, and that it would be wise to avoid the subject all together from now on. I think we are basically in agreement.
I think you may feel it may linger and have more impact on voters than I do, but let me say in my several posts this morning on the subject not once have I diminished or dismissed the political importance of this issue. I am fully aware of the risk involved when this issue is brought up and a politician on our side responds to it in terms of impacting voter intentions/favorables or alienating voters.
So again this is why Sarah's rapid-fire response was so important and why I continue to marvel at 'this lady from the Far North'.

Unforced error. Not a killer and this is Sarah being Sarah (people close to her will tell you she makes unforced errors just like all of us) but this one should have been a quick "I don't get into conspiracy theories".
Yes, I do believe it is an unforced error. Humphries has indulged the birther issue in the past and his audience has a fair number of birthers. My opinion is that Gov. Palin probably knew this and didn't want to risk offending the host and audience by dismissing it out of hand and provoking an argument or negative response, so she tried to finesse it, and she doesn't do finesse real well. It would have been better if she just clearly stated something like her facebook post -- "I know you and your audience think this is an important issue, and you definitely have the right to ask the question. But, from what I've seen, I've just come to a different conclusion." Gentle disagreement.
First of all, this Humphrey guy should not have asked this question in th first place. He should have edited it out period.
Secondly, I see nothing wrong with what Sarah said in her original ans. I do not think the MSM want to open this can of worms at all. The double standard principle is in play it would like bad if the MSM asked about Trig and not about the O BC.
Finally, As Other have said this is a free country and I have the right to ask question of the people who are granted the privilege to govern me. If they don't like the heat say out of the kitchen.

At the end of the day, I don't think it will mean a whole lot, but it is a convenient issue for reporters and haters (I know, the same thing) to continue to hit her with. I do believe it will follow her for longer than you may think it will, though, for that very reason. So, she'll just have to keep answering it.
I do wish she would take a little bit more time to frame her answers sometimes, though. Not to make the answers more bland or "political" -- she needs to continue to say what she thinks. But, she does tend to tie herself into rhetorical knots at times and she needs to take a moment to make sure what she wants to say is clear -- the only way to avoid situations like this.

Because it's ridiculous that a president's place of birth is considered a taboo subject merely because that president is half black. People on the left questioned President Bush's national guard service for YEARS and YEARS. They asked him to produce evidence of his service. They even forged documents showing him in a bad light.
But because this president is black, somehow certain forms of scrutiny are off limits?

I think Sarah did fine on the interview. I hate political correctness with every fiber of my being. If Obama wasn't half black, then questioning where he was born wouldn't be a sacred cow.

I saw nothing wrong with what Sarah said in the interview. I think her facebook post was also good. What most of you seem to be saying is she has to be more careful in what she says and how she says it, while this may be true you are forgetting one of the most important things and how this helps Sarah and does not hurt her at all.
Because the LSM never asked OBAMA anything that would hurt him, hide other things that would hurt him, set at his feet like he was king before he ever was king and has only recently begun to question him about anything that could be negative for him, they have little if any creditability in pointing out things Sarah may say that seem a little "off-the-wall". She has million come backs ready to use on them pointing out why they are doing this to her and not to OBAMA. She keeps making the look stupid. Plus she has her Facebook to set the record straight.
I think and I thought last night, this is just another plus for her, I see nothing negative in it at all. The American people are so glad to finally see some one that stands up for what she believes in and is not afraid to correct the press and point out their errors. My main problem is this:
No one said anything was wrong with the interview last night, in fact everyone was praising it as a great interview and we all needed to go and listen to it, but when a couple of Palin Haters at HUFFPOST or DAILYKOS started this mess then all of a sudden people here are jumping scared and fear what people are saying.....

I agree this guy must be an idiot if he supports her. She should never do his show again. I don't think this will hurt her, but these far right talk shows (I'm NOT talking about rush, ingrahm, or you know the usual) she needs to stay FAR FAR away from.
To be honest I didn't like much about this interview, as an independent it didn't do much for me at all. I felt like she took a step back after marching ten steps forward in all of her other interviews. I still don't think this will hurt her, but IMO she needs to stay far away from this kinda crap.

Peter, did you actually listen to the interview? My guess is that you did not. The original question was If SHE ran would SHE bring up the birth certificate? She said no. I fail to see the unforced error here, except the perception of one that you're trying so desperately to portray here as reality. Nice try, though.
You guys are right about that Hotair site; he seems to look for and find and negative comment he can find on Palin. Most would not even see the light of day if it wasn't for this site. I frankly think the birth certificate issue is legitimate; I dont' care what you call me. The one line I remember from Obama's book was that he came across his original birth certificate while going through his mother's stuff. That's all he say; but why did he say it. I have my own beliefs about the bc and some day I will probably be proven correct.
