Sarah Palin: Worthy American Heroes - Reminding Us What Really Matters
Via Facebook:
Ready and anxious to see America’s finest at Ft. Hood tomorrow. My heart is with every military mom, dad, spouse, child, grandparent... every supporter of our proud men and women in uniform.
My brother passed the following along to me because he thought I’d like it; he was right. Enjoy... and please honor America’s finest.
- Sarah Palin
The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father’s, but he has never collected unemployment either.
He’s a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and a 155mm howitzer.
He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must.
He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional.
He can march until he is told to stop, or stop until he is told to march.
He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient.
He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry.
He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.
If you’re thirsty, he’ll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He’ll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low.
He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands.
He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job. He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay, and still find ironic humor in it all. He has seen more suffering and death than he should have in his short lifetime. He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed.
He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to ‘square-away’ those around him who haven’t bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking.
In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful.
Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is paying the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.
He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding.
Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood.
And now we even have women over there in danger, doing their part in this tradition of going to War when our nation calls us to do so.
As you go to bed tonight, remember this. A short lull, a little shade, and a picture of loved ones in their helmets.

Nice letter by her brother. Almost feel like he was writing it for Track.
Right on and well said. Land of the Free and Home of Brave. The cost have been high but the rewards more than worth it. Freedom has to be fought for. There are many who want to take it away.
tears flow across the nation, a mother reminds us of what sacrifices have been made and continue to be made.
and for what ? a pat on the bug, a hug, a bear hug, and a kiss, and a small paycheck.
God bless our troops.
God bless Sarah.
God bless Chuck and Sally Heath.
God bless America.
^^^, pat on the back
He perfectly describes my son; soon to be Medic w/ the Marines from Camp Pendleton. Altho my son is still in Navy Corps School, will graduate in the middle of summer..he is exactly what's described in here.
I cry.
I cry for all the mothers.
I cry for all the sons and daughters, and husbands, and fathers,
...but most of all, I cry-- because their CIC is an ashhole!!
I wish I could print what my son and I talked about yesterday; he called to ask me if I saw the speech, and what did I think...
At the end of a one hour long conversation while I was at Costco, I said, "learn everything you need to learn in school to do your job well. There is no avoiding it now, that is the only thing you can do now. Do your job well. And when you go to train with the Marines, learn how to duck." He said, "NO, learn to fire back!"
So there you go! The Mom, the Soldier, the difference in perspective! Ha! ha!
Stay as safe as you can heroes, its the bravest job on earth.
I've seen part of that message somewhere recently, but great to see Sarah posting it.
Now I don't need to start this part with an "O/T" because it's directly on point:
Xerox Corporation is doing something very nice. Click on this link www.LetsSayThanks.com and you can choose any one of a number of postcards designed by kids across the USA to send to our military personnel serving overseas. Simple, quick and easy to do. I just did it a few minutes ago.
Pick a card, choose some additional words of thanks, click submit. Done. Requires name (but not full name) and town. No email or other address required, so Xerox clearly is not trying to gather your personal info. Try it, you'll like it. And the soldier, sailor, marine or airman who receives the card will surely appreciate it.
Wesley Pruden article at the Wash Times:
One large step, timidly taken
Regarding Obambi's half-hearted approval of 30,000 troops for a pre-withdraw surge
Beautiful. God bless our troops and their families. Thanks for posting this Sarah.
Beautiful letter.
I don't think it was written by her brother. I think he just sent it to her.
Sarah Palin's support and appreciation for our troops is just one of her endearing qualities. May God protect our troops, our nation and the entire Palin family.
Thanks for this post CharterOakie. I have already sent one card but I will try to send more....hopefully they don't have a limit. Small acts of kindness are often the most treasured. Our military needs to know that Patriotic American citizens stand with them and understand that WE ARE AMERICA......not the occupant of the White House.
CBK,
I just want you to know that I have noticed your awesome articles always get bumped quickly by another article, so the comments are often not that many.
But your articles are slam-fantastic.
Thank you Sarah for sharing this letter and reminding us of our most important blessings.
God Bless and Protect Our Military Sons and Daugters
God Bless and Protect Sarah Palin and Family
God Bless and Protect America
And God saw the darkness that had spread over the land of his children and heard their crys....and God sent his child of light......a bright Northern Star......to spread her bright and shining light and to give his people hope for the future.
Guest,
