In 2010, I believe that our side must strive to engineer the achievement of several political short-term goals and long-term objectives that employ incisive and availing tactics and utilize comprehensive and keen political strategies; but the primary consideration in doing so should always to be "keeping it real" and never to mislead to the nature of, distort, or cover up any reality or any potential reality, even if it threatens to cause us personal anguish or discombobulates our conservative sensibilities while also having the capacity to bringing us ongoing success and future dazzling triumph.

Bill in Baltimore,  December 26, 2009 8:35 AM

could someone post Sarah's events through Feb, with links if possible ?

I know about the Tea Party event in Tenn Feb 4-6, I thought I heard someone say something in San Antonio in Jan ???

Also, I don't have the Loggers convention, or Bowling Assoc.

Jamika,  December 26, 2009 8:45 AM

The thing is, if conservatives act conservative, they win. By its very nature, conservatism is the superior platform and represents freedom - the one that stresses individual responsibility, fiscal discipline, respect for human life, limited government, free markets, faith and family. The Republicans of this past decade have seemingly done their best to smear conservatism by starting wars, spending trillions of dollars that don't exist and growing the size and tyranny of government into people's lives.

Fortunately, the Democrats are proving to be even worse! More spending, more war, more government growth, more attacks on individual liberty... Conservatives simply need to be true to themselves and the rest will follow. I believe politicians like Sarah Palin, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Michele Bachmann, Jim DeMint, Gary Johnson and some others represent the future of the Republican party.

techno,  December 26, 2009 8:49 AM

With the above clarity here are 10 key issues IMHO that Sarah Palin and our side will have to deal with in 2010:

1) The attempt of Obama and even some elements in the GOP establishment to drive a permanent wedge between the Tea Party Movement (TPM) and the Republican party to prevent any sort of unity, leading ultimately in frustration to the creation of a serious 3rd party movement that hands the Dems and Obama victory in 2010 and 2012 and beyond. George Soros, Obama and the Far Left will pour in whatever resources are necessary to bring this about. We cannot not dismiss their attempts and must be vigilant on a 24/7 basis to make sure this does not happen, because if it does then our cause, our goal to destroy Obama's radical agenda and take back America is doomed.
2) The Far Left will have a far better chance of pulling #1 off if Sarah Palin is eliminated from the "proceedings" in 2010; as I have mentioned before I believe Palin is the only person that has the capability of forging a workable alliance between the TPM and the GOP; taking Palin out of the picture is like deliberately injuring Tom Brady and knowing your road to victory just got 50% easier.
3) Even if our side can prevent a viable 3rd party movement from emerging to split the vote, Obama could craft a strategy that incentivizes its own troops to get to the polls while at the same time attempting to bleed off independents who now tell pollsters that they intend to vote GOP over the Democrats by roughly a 2 to 1 margin now. And much of that strategy IMHO will be based on scaring independents that the economy will get far worse if the GOP gains control of Congress and to GOTV accusing the GOP of racism or insensitivity since many of these indies are white. Thus to white crowds Obama will focus on jobs, jobs, jobs and the need for government intervention to bring them back and to black and Hispanic crowds how terrible and extremist the GOP is led by the wacko Sarah Palin.
4) I expect the MSM and its celebrity allies to ramp up their game as well, to follow the Obama playbook to the letter, and to attempt to blanket the airwaves with lies, disinformation and propaganda that will at least keep the Dems in line and hopefully prevents Obama from falling lower in the polls. And don't forget that according to the most recent WSJ/NBC poll 36% of Americans still primarily get their political news or news of current events through the three networks, ABC, NBC, and CBS and 21% get it from CNN or MSNBC.
5) The "desperation factor" may become huge in 2010 depending on how the polls evolve regarding where Obama stands and if there develops a genuine possibility of the Dems losing one or both houses of Congress. If this comes to pass, and I expect it will, nobody on our side should be surprised at anything the Far Left concocts, says or tries to do including accusing Sarah Palin or the GOP of wanting to bring the Spanish Inquisition to America, deporting all illegal immigrants, or allowing industry to pollute the air so much that millions of Americans will suffocate to death.

Good Morning C4P.

techno,  December 26, 2009 9:15 AM

6) Distractions or events to take our eye off the ball of defeating the Dems in 2010 and Obama in 2012 will arise both from the intellectual output from Obama's war room and the MSM but also from external events that occur naturally or outside the bounds of reason or control. In other words, would a terrorist attack on US soil in 2010 prevent our side from being as robust in its attempts to take back Congress and undermine Obama or would we feel compelled to do out of patriotism and loyalty to our country? Could Obama or Soros orchestrate a crisis (eg economic/financial) that pulls the rug out from under our movement or our side and cause the Dems to be seen with greater favor? I frankly don't know.
7) The slush fund of billions from TARP 1 that Rush Limbaugh always talks about being used by Obama to win the 2010 midterms cannot be ignored; if it is true this must be exposed and after that "the wizards of smart" on our side must come up with a strategy to deal with its impact on voters.
8) In conjunction to #1, even if Soros and Obama can't cause a viable 3rd party to arise, we could destroy the anti-Obama movement ourselves through internecine warfare by the TPM and the GOP taking diametrically opposite or incompatible political positions that make it impossible to show America a united front; illegal immigration is an example of an issue that could go this way.
9) We cannot ignore the great probability of poll manipulation (excluding Rasmussen) as we get closer to Nov 2010 to either give our side a false sense of security that we are winning by a huge margin so as to rest on our laurels or to dispirit us to think no matter how hard we work, how much energy we bring to the table or how much money we raise, Obama will always have our number, as the New England Patriots have now beaten the Buffalo Bills in 13 straight regular season games. Either way we have to resolve to stick to our game plan and play 'the full 60 minutes' regardless of what the score is.
10) And the question has to asked: "Will our side have the will, capacity and mental inclination to fight the Democrats as if we are in a war for our survival and in addition can we fight this war with the unwavering attitude of 'not taking any prisoners' and 'not giving any quarter to the enemy'?  There is no doubt the Dems are prepared to. Are we prepared to bring guns to a gunfight rather than knives?

Good morning!

techno,  December 26, 2009 9:59 AM

The part of High Noon which is so relevant to Sarah's estrangement from the GOP corridors of power is that none of the established Republican politicos (like the townspeople) will lift a hand to help Sarah out or at least stand by her side (eg death panels) as she is being assailed on all sides or has to run the gauntlet to survive.
But like Gary Cooper she still stands strong and refuses to yield to moments of quiet desperation.

Kjanlady,  December 26, 2009 10:54 AM

Good morning rogues and barbarians,

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and got all that they wanted.   I know that I did.  At midnight mass on Christmas Eve, I was overcome by a feeling of peace that I have not felt for so long.  There are only a few days left in 2009, a year that will be remembered as one where the American people were deceived and taken in by a charlatan......a year that will be remembered by the mistakes made in elections and mistakes made by the majorities in Congress when they act against the will of the people.......but it will also be remembered as the year that nutured a new spirit of patriotism and public involvement in the actions of government.....it will be remembered as a year that revealed for us a new leader, a true leader who will help this country find it's historical but long forgotten true principles........it will be remembered as the year that the people rose up and in a single loud voice proclaimed that this was their country....their America...and this was their government which was to allowed to act only if it was by the consent of the people.......and it was the year when the people of America declared war....war against the enemies from within......a war against tyranny........a war to be fought in every town, in every state......... a war that will take the citizens to Washington, DC itself.....a war to take our country back from theives disguised as politicians.

The coming battles will be historic......the corrupt politicians want to turn a deaf ear to the will of the people....but the people will not be silenced....the people will not be ignored.......the people are engaged and will not surrender their country and their freedom.  The year 2010 will be remembered as the year that America was reborn.....the year that America found true leadership.....the year that America went to the voting booth in historical numbers and used their collective voices to begin cleaning up the cesspool that masquerades as the halls of Congress......the year that they took back their power and made the pretender in the White House an impotent puppet for all of his remaining days......a puppet that will spend his days answering to his corrupt actions and responding not to the cheering crowds of days goneby but to the criminal investigations and charges that we will demand to be raised......and a new leader.......growing stronger and more popular each day will take the reins of power offered to her and will work tirelessly with the people to bring the America that we love back to it's proper place.

Sarah.....2010 is the beginning....it will be your year.....we are proud the support you......we will always guard your back....no matter what your decision as to public office......we recognize your leadership......we are ready....we are armed with truth......and we will not stop until victory is achieved....one after another......and America is once again in the hands of people that we can trust.....here's one freedom fighter's wish......that you will accept this mantle of leadership and become our 45th President.....and the leader of a newly freed America.  2009 has been called historic but the year 2013 will be truly historic........the people's VOICE will be victorius.

Christmas Eve......a time of rebirth......magical miracles do happen........

Sometimes you sit back and reflect and the light bulb goes on regarding realpolitik.

In the not to distant past of eastern bloc and Russian communism the goal of the American government was to highlight its danger of the world and prospective world events that could jeopardize the safety and security of Americans.

In the post-cold war period, the Far Left and Obama have cleverly flipped the concept on its head that it is indeed now Americans who are now dangerous to the world and endangering the safety and security of the rest of the world.

In the final analysis the emotions in play are the same: fear and pride, except in the former the fear of loss overwhelms the pride of additional taxes for defense spending while in the latter the pride of excess embarrasses and overrides any fear of loss of disposable income.

In both cases the average American loses more of his liberty.

PatrickinOH,  December 26, 2009 11:19 AM

Here is an interesting article written by a liberal who read Going Rogue: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2415080/posts

narciso,  December 26, 2009 11:43 AM

Cockburn, is an interesting fellow, a committed leftist genetically, his father was a propagandist during the Spanish civil war, he has been a harsh skeptic on the global warming front. Kornblut ignores the subrosa campaign to disparage Sarah that goes on to thsi day, adding to it last fall my misrepresenting her words on the enemy we were fighting in Iraq

RedDaveR,  December 26, 2009 11:44 AM

With respect to #2, it will be interesting to see who invites Sarah Palin to what campaigns.
It's just about a given that she will campaign for the Bachmann/Demint types, but the question is will the more establishment types welcome her, or will we see a replay of last year's Virginia and New Jersey campaigns with the GOP elite shunning her? In some situations it might be analogous to offensive linemen that would rather see another quarterback behind them, and so they deliberately allow the starting quarterback to be "sacked".  The question then becomes: What gives you the best chance to win the game?
Are these linemen willing to risk losing the game to get the quarterback of their choice?

I suspect there will be several candidates that will avoid her early on, but when they see that her appearance could be the difference between victory and defeat, they will embrace her in the final stretch.

Of course the MSM will pushing the narrative that she is "polarizing", "divisive", and "will scare away independents". We will need to find a way to answer this line of attack.

CBDenver,  December 26, 2009 12:10 PM

Regarding #1 (Soros astroturf) and #4 (media acquiescence to #1) I wonder if the leftist onslaught against truth will work again as it did in the last election?  Polls show that many people now believe the MSM is biased.  Many who voted for Obama are starting to realize that he is not quite what he appeared to be during the campaign.  Perhaps the "over-the-top" efforts to distort reality to get Obama elected cannot be duplicated?

KeeleyH,  December 26, 2009 12:20 PM

So according to this liberal, Sarah is a really nice person, a normal person, as long as she doesn't run for president. But if she runs for POTUS, then she's the devil. These people make it so obvious, it has nothing to do with Sarah Palin the person or the politician. It's about THEM. THEY themselves are the real problem. Their own personal prejudice is the real problem.

The article is "interesting" in the sense that it confirms "Going Rogue" is successful in doing what Sarah intended when she wrote it -- to set the record straight about who she is. But the reviewer couldn't help throwing jabs at her even as he tried to say something positive about Sarah. It sounds like he's in denial. He finds himself really liking Sarah, but is afraid it may look totally uncool to admit it.

But the bottomline is, they KNOW she has the potential to succeed nationally.

KeeleyH,  December 26, 2009 12:25 PM

And what's with the second person who wrote in the same article that he couldn't bring himself to read "Going Rogue"? What kind of book "review" is that? Pathetic. It's obvious that he knows if he reads the book, he may find himself liking the book, like his friend the first reviewer. Therefore he refuses to read the book so that he'll never have to like Sarah. These people are so twisted that it's truly comical that they accuse Sarah of being the one who is "dangerous".

techno,  December 26, 2009 12:26 PM

That is an extremely interesting theory you bring up that the GOP establishment may play to 'lose the game'. In sports when a coach finds a player or players who do not have the will to win you cut them and bring on board those who will. It's as simple as that. And the sooner you can separate the wheat from the chaff the sooner you can move on to establishing an esprit de corps and becoming successful.

By the way the 'polarizing' narrative may have become passe by Palin's more favorable poll numbers since the release of Going Rogue on Nov 17th and the accompanying decline of Obama's F on Rasmussen and other polls which show his F at 48 or below.

techno,  December 26, 2009 12:34 PM

Again if it is accurate to where 57% of Americans get their political news from still, could that fact be used by the Democrats misrepresent the opposition to where the fear of its supposed agenda becomes more frightening than the downturn of the economy under Obama's watch and the resentment of Americans to the imposition of Obamacare on the American family.

Shame on us. On a flight about to land in Detroit, a man came out of the bathroom hugging a pillow about his stomach, and holding a siringe on his hand. When he sat down, he took down his pants and tried to ignite something strapped to his thigh. It made a firecracker noise and some smoke.
What did the americans on the plane sitting about him do? Nothing.

A dutch saw the smoke from several rows away, understod what was happening, unbukled his seat belt, clambered over FOUR rows of seats, and tackled the guy, ripped the stuff from around his thighs, while wrestling with him, searched his privates (yuck! for more stuff) and put out out the chemical fire with his bare hands. Some other passengers found an extinguisher and helped put out the fire. He then hemlocked the guy and walked him, who was screaming and cursing about Afghanistan, to the first class area and front of the plane.

Thank you, dutchman.

Now, where were all the red blodded americans? Tsk. I was telling my wife that if that ever happened, she should not sit there quivering in her seat or screminng, she should do the same, tackle the guy, bite his ears off, gouge his eyes out with her nails... All this passive, "I am a lamb, lead me to the slaughter attitude" has to stop. I am angry.

CharterOakie,  December 26, 2009 1:02 PM

Let's be clear:  if the TPM and the GOP don't meld as one force, the fault will lie with the GOP elites, not with the ordinary Americans who correctly recognize that the two-headed D.C. establishment has failed them and continues to ignore them and the Constitution.

Fresh political movements are not preordained to failure.  If they were, neither the Ds nor the Rs would have become established.

It's not enough to oppose Obama and the left just to have a corrupt GOP establishment regain power and pursue policies that are opposed by a majority of the public.  That only sets the stage for another ascendancy of the left.

Conservative, constitutionalist patriots must be resolute and force the GOP to come back to us, not the other way around.  The credible threat of a viable independent conservative movement is the best way to ensure that.

techno,  December 26, 2009 1:13 PM

I agree with you completely but to deny that there are sinister forces planning right now in the GOP establishment and on the Far Left to sabotage a potential unification of the TPM and the GOP would be foolhardy and imprudent.

While in Nashville Feb. 4th thru 6th, I will push reform of the GOP as opposed to a third-party movement.

It will be FAR easier to reform the GOP (difficult as that may be) compared to launching a third-party.

I will not have much patience from anybody in Nashville preaching 3rd party madness.

lmg,  December 26, 2009 3:50 PM

The way to reform it is to pack it with Common Sense Conservatives until they become the majority.

Guys, if you allow me to stray a little bit -- it is an open thread, right? --, I would like to point out the popularity of Ron Paul. I've been watching Sarah Palin and Ron Paul's videos on the Internet and the viewcounts don't lie: Ron Paul's popularity is at least ten times greater. And what's more, almost zero negative comments, unlike in the clips of the former Governor of Alaska. It would be great to see an alliance between the two of them, but I wonder if Ron Paul would want it...

Well, anyway... Paul & Palin in 2012!

An interesting article.  Geography cannot be the only criterion for funding.  Better to utilize studies of the Mayo approach to help streamline other systems.  It is going to take a while, however, to change the institutions.  Demographics is really key to the approachs and the practices.  Health care rather than sick care will help reduce the costs for indigent populations.  Preventive care cannot just be a bandaid approach.  Changing the entire establishment is going to take a lot of work and patience.

techno - I don't know of any such forces or efforts specifically but would not be surprised if they are already occurring or soon will occur.  In any event, I'm not denying it.

My point is that the GOP establishment will again sing the siren song:  "conservatives have no where else to go and will have to vote GOP, otherwise they help to elect a Democrat."

Bullsh*t.  I refused to go along with that nonsense beginning in '92 and will continue to support a Perot or a Buchanan if the GOP remains a wholly owned subsidiary of the globalists, which is what drove those two candidacies in the first place.

Again, the first and best (but not only) choice is to reform the GOP.  But it's not a slam dunk proposition.  If it were, Reagan would not have been obliged to have Bush as VP, and the elites would not be so determined to either control or marginalize Sarah now.

My intent in responding to your post was to exhort resolve among tea partiers and fellow Palin supporters to stand fast and be prepared to go in whichever direction becomes necessary.  Hoping that not too many are "conservatives4palin provided she remains a loyal Republican."

CharterOakie,  December 26, 2009 5:10 PM

And to make it very clear that we will not vote for Republicans simply because they're not Democrats.

ellen,  December 26, 2009 5:18 PM

Ron Paul is not more popular than Sarah Palin. Look at book sales... or how she dominates rating each time she goes on a show.
Also, I think there are not negative comments on Paul's videos because he is not a threat to the left. The media and the left have proven that they will tell us who the conservative candidate should be, based on who they attack the most. There are trolls who sit around all day and make negative comments about Palin.

Don't get me wrong, Ron Paul has some good ideas. Especially regarding economics, imo. But he will never win on the top of a ticket.

ellen,  December 26, 2009 5:22 PM

I don't think that the Republican will evolve per se. I think it is dying and it is going to be replaced, hopefully with more conservative/tea party type principles.
I just wish someone would pull the plug on it so that we can start making progress, but I think we are going to have to wait until 2010.

I think that I read that Rubio would like her support.  Like I mentioned before getting her up in the Hispanic sphere would be good for her, even though ALL Cuban-Americans that I have spoken with seem to "love" her already.  They call her a "lady" (that is a great compliment in the hispanic community) by this they mean that she is honest, decent, hardworking and ethical.

Ha ha ha. Ron Paul? He doesn't think highly of Sarah Palin (see Politico article - calls her and her supporters "country club Republicans and said she only energizes the 15-20 year olds). Plus, he's a dove on foreign policy and Sarah is a hawk. They would make a horrible team on foreign policy. In addition, he'll be 77 in 2012. Now that I have watched the full Vice President debate, I completely agree with you, yogi41. Ron Paul doesn't agree with Palin on many issues. Mr Paul is against Cap and Trade. Mr Paul is against the FED and any sort of bailout, supervised or not.

I don't know about foreign policy because it was not discussed there.

Hey, pal, I'm on your side. I just like to debate and I think people here too, unlike the leftists. If you really didn't know who Ron Paul was you should be featured in that Ziegler documentary in which an Obama voter and a follower of CNN didn't know who Barney Frank or Nancy Pelosi were; didn't know the the American Congress had a majority of democrats in 2008 etc.
