Starving for Yin and Rockin' like Dokken

I want to give emphasis to the line William Shatner recited from Going Rogue regarding Kid Rock’s policy ideas.

Quick story: It was a decade ago, and I was watching the up-to-that-point dull Woodstock ’99. I’m a Gen-Xer, and Xers remember the ’99 affair for the Limp Bizkit, Rage Against the Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers sets that ultimately led to full-blown boys-gone-bad incidents, including mass vandalism, pyromania, theft and – apologies for the phrase that follows – boob-grabbing.

Most of the festival had been rather dull, at least before Kid Rock showed up. As I recall, he was proceeded by enjoyable the but Valium-esque acoustic stylings of Jewel and Alanis Morissette (two artists I like), and then Kid Rock came out, in the middle of the afternoon, and decided it was time to wake everyone up, the stage erupting with fireworks as he launched into “Bawitdaba,” his first hit. The crowd didn’t know they were read for a full-blown rap-metal assault in the middle of a boring, gyno-rock afternoon, but they were.

While Pres. Obama appears daily on television (absent only the acoustic guitar) to simultaneously bore and enrage a growing segment of the American vox populi, Gov. Palin, first with her resignation, then with her Facebook Notes and op-eds, then when her book tour, then with her appearances at The Gridiron Club and Conan O’Brian, has plugged in to the amp and has proceed to shred, enlivening an audience that knew it wanted something to happen while having no certain idea what they wanted. While Pres. Obama is playing an off-key version of “Scarborough Fair” to a crowd ready to rock, Gov. Palin, seeing her chance, has plugged the Fender into the Marshall stack and is going Yngwie Malmsteen on a crowd that is begging for it.

In short, she's rockin' like Dokken.

==

Sarah Palin’s book tour has ended, and its cessation coincides with the end of the media’s vile attempt to de-legitimize her. That doesn’t mean the smears will come to a halt or the condescension will lessen, it means that this character assassination will no longer be taken seriously by serious political observers or by the portion of the American public at large who can be described as anything other than “Palin-hater.” What Gov. Palin did at the Gridiron and on Conan put an end to such foolishness.

It’s one thing for libertarian feminist Liberals like the great Camille Paglia to have defended Gov. Palin from the start, it’s quite another when smart, down-the-line Liberals like Clarence Page being speaking well of her. If we can get Charles Krauthammer to cease from lobbing disappointing bombs her way, then the world can begin righting itself.

Yes, that was a pun, and yes, it was intentional.

What her plans are looking forward, no one knows, but know this: she is now taken with grave seriousness. Reading the comments below the one-sentence statement Ben Smith at Politico made regarding Gov. Palin’s appearance on Conan is to understand how her foes openly understand the danger she poses to the wholesale domination of national politics by Donkeys: “Palin was, various Democrats emailed me, scary good on Tonight.” One wonders if the GOP establishment and its eastern political wonks will begin to notice this and take it – and her – seriously, or if they will continue to work against her, wishing she would just go away.

It was the aforementioned confluence of events in the last few days solidified this legitimacy that the heaving, hulking media machine did not want to happen and with its every available power attempted to prevent, namely the concept of Sarah Palin as a Serious Figure. Certain media figures will continue to click their heels thrice, hoping she’ll go away, but the smart ones are beginning to understand that this woman has power, it is real, and it’s time to begin paying attention. They don’t call it a bandwagon because it’s a quiet, lonely place. They may want Gov. Palin's book, her Facebook Notes, her op-eds and her book tour to be nothing more than trivial, effluvial remnants easy to ignore and deny, but Gov. Palin has hit a gusher of liquid gold.

In spite of a public relations campaign foisted upon the American public by The Obama Administration and his perverse, suicidal admirers in the American media, Pres. Obama’s numbers are falling to Middle Earth with a political gravity even Albert Gore would be ashamed to deny. Inversely, that same fall passed Gov. Palin as she climbs in the various polls – in spite of the media’s best efforts, the more the public learns about Sarah Palin, the more they love her; also, to continue the analogy, the more the public learns about Pres. Obama, the more they dislike the man and the policies he’s trying to force down our collective throats.

Most of us who stood in freezing cold weather just to get a few seconds to say “hi” and “thank you” and shake her hand could’ve told you this. No book tour has, in my lifetime, ever seen the attention Gov. Palin’s received, and I would venture to say that J.K. Rowling and Stephanie Meyer are the only two writers who could equal or surpass a tour like Gov. Palin’s – keep in mind, both women write fantasy novels aimed at teenagers (please, Potter and Twilight fans, I know they’re not Just Fantasy Novels – it wasn’t meant as an insult). No politician on the planet could come close to what Gov. Palin has pulled off.

It is akin to Beatlemania, except instead of shrieking and fainting, today’s teenage girls have their noses buried in a book written by a woman who is a wonderful role model for them to look up to – it was surreal how many teenage girls (and boys, to be fair) I saw reading the Governor’s book and waiting in line in the freezing cold at the Norman, Okla. Hasting’s just for a chance to meet the woman. Each of you who went to a signing know exactly what I’m talking about.

The age of ‘Cuda as Whipping-Girl has ceased, and the age of Sarah as Kingmaker has begun – I look forward to Gov. Palin’s future moves, and to helping prove to millions of Americans she is no flash in the pan, no SNL caricature and, most importantly, no Barack Obama. She is the yin to his yang, and in three years, the country will be starving for the yin.

==

Also, C4Pers, Palin supporters owe a huge debt to Camille Paglia - I've never met the woman and many of her politics aren't mine, but I have read most of her writing, and for a long time she was the only prominent, respected Liberal woman who not only defended Gov. Palin (even as a supporter of first Hillary Clinton, and later Barack Obama) but professed admiration as well.

My favorite Dokken song is from a cheesy horror flick.

A lot of libs are trying to come to terms with the fact that Gov. Palin may just be president in 2012.

US President Palin? You betcha!

http://gulfnews.com/opinions/columnists/us-president-palin-you-betcha-1.553587

There appears to be a trend growing here, especially since Going Rogue, her media blitz, and the book signing tour has been so resoundingly successful.  Even the libs can't ignore thousands of people sleeping outside in sub-freezing temps, or standing in line for over 24 hours, plus the maximum capacity crowds she gets at every event she attends.  They are starting to read the writing on the wall.

lmg,  December 14, 2009 7:39 PM

Camille Paglia - an interview of the Guv by her would be very interesting.

Emily (Jane Austen),  December 14, 2009 7:46 PM

Let's put this into my generation's terms.

I am not salivating over the Jonas Brothers (even though I have their music and think Nick is cute...hey, a girl can dream!). I will never meet Miley Cyrus (please...no. I like her music, but please no.) Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato are the only two that IMHO are decent.

Sarah Palin is akin to my favorite author (Jane Austen) my favorite teacher (hey Mrs. B!) and my favorite rockstar (Demi Lovato). She is the best role model anyone can ask for and it's nice to know that I am not alone in that agreement. I can text the lastest Facebook post over my phone. I can sign up for a social network that supports her. In short, I'm doing everything I can to promote her ideals because she is my Role Model.

Would someone please pass the popcorn?

I can't wait until 2012 (or 2010...)

RINO-Hunter,  December 14, 2009 7:46 PM

Yes.

Nat Hentoff would be good too.  He defended her "death panels" comment.

johnfromcanada,  December 14, 2009 7:54 PM

I believe that it is gradually dawning upon the consciousness of the American public that Sarah Palin will be the next POTUS.   I know there's a long way to go and a lot of mountains to climb, but who else out there is any where near Sarah in terms of connecting with the public and speaking their language?  A sense of momentum, perhaps even inevitablilty, is starting to build. The MSM has done their worst, it seems, opened every can of worms and there's nothing of any substance there.  Plus people are starting to dissociate Sarah from last year's campagn to look at her with fresh eyes and listen to her with new ears,  I can safely predict Sarah will do way better in  her first term than O has done in his. At least she won't get on the horse and ride off madly in all directions as O has done.  As she says, two or three solid initiatives that work, will give her lots of political capital down the road. Barry seems to have already spent most of his.

CudaCountry,  December 14, 2009 7:56 PM

I like that Emily! Sarah Palin is my first ever role model and I am 51. She is truly a gift from my Father and I will enjoy this gift for years to come. Thank you Father, for Sarah.

Even SNL was positive on Governor Palin, saying she shot down two tomatoes mid air that were throw at her.

exodus2011,  December 14, 2009 8:20 PM

I have been thinking about Gov Palin's book tour from the perspective of it possibly being unprecented .... correct me if I am wrong here ...

THIS particular book tour has been undertaken at the beginning of WINTER, and STILL thousands have turned up, camping overnight, freezing in line for hours ... remaining genial and upbeat regardless of the conditions ...... the sight of so many standing in falling snow at Roanoke VA was astonishing ...

Has there been another book tour by a prominent author at this time of the year, EVER? It is remarkable to say the least .... I saw the Russian media video clip and their amazed attitude regarding the Palin fans during their coverage ..... and as for the sales, Gov Palin could well exceed Pres Clinton's book sales, if she hasn't already done so (where do we find that information - is it public domain?)

The Heartland Of America, the SOUL of America is HUNGRY for ethical, honest, transparent, frank, and competent leadership .... they have recognised these qualities in Gov Palin .... they are moving heaven and earth to meet with her, speak briefly with her, experience her smile and handshake .... she represents the HOPE they have, that perhaps their beloved Land of the Free and Home of the Brave will survive this attempt to 'transform' it into something unrecognisable .... I can't get over the number of men - young, old, and in-between, who are willing and eager even, to line up, wait patiently to meet with a woman who they sense is standing tall, still brightly shining, atop that 'city on a hill', as Marxist termites are attempting to dismantle that city from within.

America, continue to stand firm, fight back, and PREPARE for the fight that will be 2010.

Make those calls!
Write those Lawmakers!
Pressure those weasels!
PROTEST! PROTEST! PROTEST!

Perhaps there is still mercy in the Heavenly Coffers, and in 2012 Providence will deliver a long sought after Leader for America - President Sarah Heath Palin (or as I refer to the Governor, 'Deborah', *__*)

narciso,  December 14, 2009 8:27 PM

Frankly, I can't stand Kid Rock. He has this vibe that makes me want to take a shower every time I see him.

But that's okay. I can't agree with Sarah on EVERYTHING. :-)

BOR had really good segment on Sarah on The Tonight Show. "She trumped the left", he said.

Next up - Juan Williams and Mary Katherine Ham discuss "what she should do" to move forward.<span> </span>

Brian72,  December 14, 2009 8:38 PM

I'm not that crazy about Kid Rock either.

MarkRNY,  December 14, 2009 8:39 PM

"... it means that this character assassination will no longer be taken seriously by serious political observers"

But it WILL continue--from "unlikely" quarters now, i.e. the Repubs.

As to Paglia, we don't "owe" her or the fringe she writes for anything. I'm glad for her sake (not ours) that she has the intellectual honesty to recognize what's as plain as the nose on her face and the courage to say it. Sarah and her supporters don't need her approval though and shouldn't get all warm and fuzzy when we get it. They're OLD news and their hour's coming to an end.

I wouldn't sit around waiting for Krauthammer to turn around (or caring). Krauthammer and his ilk are the most sheltered, cloistered lot in the world. They're like spoiled legacy kids who don't get out much and don't particularly want to. She's a character out of a novel he once read about America, but she's not supposed to actually exist--and it scares the hell out of him.

What's important for Sarah is the connection she's made with real America, not what Pags or Chuck think. The only political commentators who I care about are Rush, Ingraham, Levin, Tammy and a handful of others, because they speak for us, not the beltway or beltway "wisdom"--and she's got them all!

Izzy,  December 14, 2009 8:40 PM

Please Sheya...can we get the vid.

Wow! That's surprising and good! From what I understand, the Hoosiers like Daniels! Of course, Sarah's given a high profile speech and did two book signings there. Indiana's a reasonably conservative state that went for a Obama last election. I think that could possibly change.

CBK here - I avoid comment threads at all costs (I get my say, these boards are yours), but two in the thread caught me...

MarkRNY: I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Paglia - intellectually, she's a national treasure, and one of the last remaining deep-thinking, open-minded Liberals. To find a Liberal (a feminist, libertarian, pagan/atheist lesbian Liberal at that) who is so supportive of Gov. Palin should be a point of pride for Palinistas - Paglia's support of Gov. Palin, explained over several columns over the last year at Salon, is instrumental in understanding Gov. Palin's allure - namely, that it's not just traditional Conservatives who like her.

Brian72 - well-done, I spoke out of school. My favorite guitarist is Slash, and he plays on a Les Paul Gibson - you served me up for talked about something I'm not well-educated in, and my attempt at being clever was called out, as it should have been. Clearly, I'm not a guitarist, but seriously, how could you deny the genius of Malmsteen?

Deidre,  December 14, 2009 9:14 PM

My dad wasn't a huge Palin fan.  We can't really talk politics without yelling at each other; however, he really likes her a lot since she went on The Factor :)

narciso,  December 14, 2009 9:16 PM

Well General MacChrystal certainly deserves it, if anything for his extraordinary patience in dealing with Obama. In the same spirit as Hitler and Khomeini, other characters come to mind

KeeleyH,  December 14, 2009 9:17 PM

I would love to read a book review of "Going Rogue" by Camille Paglia, as well as her take on the whole book tour. I wonder if she has read the book yet. Can you imagine a coffee summit with Sarah and Camille? It would be as interesting, if not even more so, than Sarah and Hillary.

Brian72,  December 14, 2009 9:18 PM

Full disclosure: I have a black 1987 Les Paul Custom, and a 4x12 half stack amp.
Malmsteen is a talent, but a little too clinical for my taste. I like my guitar nasty and full of raw emotion, like that ballad solo from Zakk. That dude is seriously good. Slash is really good also, been a fan of his for years. Sweet Child 'O Mine is a great, great rock solo.

Fender vs. Gibson is like Ford vs. Chevy. I always like to give the Fender fans a little "jazz". :)

KeeleyH,  December 14, 2009 9:20 PM

She must be neck and neck with Dan Brown, they have been trading places between #1 & #2 all day today.

GAHanson,  December 14, 2009 9:21 PM

Yeah, Going Rogue has been going up and down all day at Amazon.  The thing to remember is that Hillary held the #1 slot at Amazon for less than 2 weeks then dropped like a rock after that, Gov. Palin held it tight for one month, just slipping to #2 yesterday, and regaining #1 status a few times today.  If GR continues as #1 or #2 through the end of the year, just another 17 days, it will probably end up being the #2 bestseller on Amazon for the entire year.  So far Amazon has it at #15 in its top 100 books in 2009 based on sales through October.

Brian72,  December 14, 2009 9:30 PM

Stevie was da man. He started his own catagory, guys who try to be Stevie Ray.

Brian72,  December 14, 2009 9:34 PM

Sarah Palin and I have a couple of things in common. We both love AC/DC and Van Halen!

MarkRNY,  December 14, 2009 9:36 PM

I appreciate your response. Loved the article btw, just disagree about the importance of Paglia/Krauthammer and those like them.

I don't actually recall her "supporting" Sarah. She recognizes her talent, which is fine. Sarah will never win over Salon readers, nor should she want to. She WILL get Reagan Democrats back though. However much she's viewed as a "national treasure" by those who even know who she is, her way of looking at the world is on the way out and is irrelevant imo. Maybe something deeper's going on with her, or maybe she's just being contrarian and "edgy". Remember, Hitchens defended Bush and supported the war for 8 years. Then he voted for Obama.

As to the "open minded, deep thinking lib" vote, maybe Sarah can get all 3 of them.

I agree about Les Paul Gibson though!

Anonymous,  December 14, 2009 9:39 PM

Not only has Camille Paglia defended Gov. Palin, she even lauched a devastating attack on Katie Couric after the heavily-edited interview.
Quoting Paglia:

"
As I have repeatedly said in this column, I have never had the slightest problem in understanding Sarah Palin's meaning at any time. On the contrary, I have positively enjoyed her fresh, natural, rapid delivery with its syncopated stops and slides -- a fabulous example of which was the way (in her recent interview with John Ziegler) that she used a soft, swooping satiric undertone to zing Katie <span>Couric</span>'s dippy narcissism and to assert her own outrage as a "mama grizzly" at libels against her family.
Ideology-driven attacks on Palin became clotted liberal clichƩs within 24 hours of her introduction as John McCain's running mate. What a bunch of tittering lemmings the urban elite have become in this country. From Couric's vicious manipulations of video clips to Cavett's bourgeois platitudes, the preemptive strike on Palin as a potential presidential candidate has grossly misfired. Whatever legitimate objections may be raised to Palin on political grounds (explored, for example, by David Talbot in Salon) have been lost in the amoral overkill that has defamed a self-made woman of concrete achievement in the public realm.
And let me take this opportunity to say that of all the innumerable print and broadcast journalists who have interviewed me in the U.S. and abroad since I arrived on the scene nearly 20 years ago, Katie Couric was definitively the stupidest. As a guest on NBC's "Today" show during my 1992 book tour, I was astounded by Couric's small, humorless, agenda-ridden mind, still registered in that pinched, tinny monotone that makes me rush across the room to change stations whenever her banal mini-editorials blare out at 5 p.m. on the CBS radio network. And of course I would never spoil my dinner by tuning into Couric's TV evening news show. That sallow, wizened, drum-tight, cosmetic mummification look is not an appetite enhancer outside of Manhattan or L.A. There's many a moose in Alaska with greater charm and pizazz."

Classic Paglia !

It looks like the Guv is going to give 2 speeches at that Redding Logginin Conference.

North state residents will get another shot at seeing Sarah Palin.

The former Alaska governor, 2008 vice presidential nominee and presumptive Republican Party frontrunner for the 2012 presidential nomination has agreed to a second Redding Convention Center speech.
Palin’s second speech is slated for 3 p.m. on Feb. 8.

Tickets for Palin’s speech are $74 and $54. They go on sale Monday at 9 a.m. at the Convention Center box office.

Tickets for Palin’s original speech, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 8, sold out in about 36 hours, said Nadine Bailey, executive director for the Sierra-Cascade Logging Conference, the organization that’s bringing Palin to town.

Palin will speak at both appearances for 30 to 40 minutes on themes yet to be determined, Bailey said. She will allow time for audience questions.

Palin’s appearance will kick off the weeklong timber industry gathering that will also feature Mike Pihl, one of the stars of the History Channel reality show Ax Men.

“It’s very exciting to have two of the most famous people in the forest products and construction industry coming to Sierra-Cascade,” Bailey said.

Just teasing you, Mia! Half of the time, I am your accomplice.

PatrickinOH,  December 14, 2009 10:46 PM

Hi everyone, wow more barney frank thong talk I see, and what a coincidence Mia is back, anyways tonight I went to a meeting with The Huber Heights Liberty Group with my dad (Huber Heights is a suberb of Dayton) to discuss the latest political issues, this group is a part of the Dayton Tea Party Organization and the speaker tonight was a registered democrat who hate's his party's guts, he absolutely loves Sarah and he confirmed that Sarah will be the keynote speaker at the Tea Party Convention in Nashville, TN Feb 4-6.  I asked him at the end of the meeting if he was going and if he was I wanted to get a ride with him, he says if he goes I can go with him!  I have more to say about this meeting tonight in backroom of a sports bar later but I wanted to give you guys some highlights

Mia,  December 14, 2009 10:47 PM

Could be that the liberal nut-jobs set everything in motion.
