Bristol Palin Embraces Abstinence; Oprah Suggests Retraction?
When I was a kid, I had the utmost respect for Oprah Winfrey. I admired her generosity, her sense of humor, the faith she seemed to hold dear. I was inspired by her story and how she overcame incredible odds as a child. I was so excited when I got accepted to Tennessee State University, for I soon learned that Oprah went there. I eventually chose another school, but for a while I loved the idea of attending Oprah's alma mater, especially since at that time I had some of the same dreams in my life as those that had become realities in hers. Yes, as a kid, I really admired Oprah.
But I'm not a kid anymore.
Oprah still gives as generously as she always has, and her personal story is still just as inspirational. However, now that I've matured, I guess it takes more to impress me.
I had my issues with her refusal to allow Governor Palin to sit on her couch during the 2008 campaign, but I won't rehash that. We all know how it turned out: Oprah now is quite glad to get the governor to appear on her show, and when she does, Oprah's ratings fly through the roof. So, as they say, moving on. Besides that, Oprah's worldview simply doesn't line up with mine in some very key areas, so I don't spend my time listening to her talk anymore--haven't done so for many years now--unless the governor is on.
However, my dwindling appreciation for the former Queen of Talk took a nosedive last Friday when she interviewed Governor Palin and her daughter, Bristol. Bristol has made the admirable, and correct, decision to remain abstinent until marriage. Rather than encourage Bristol to do just that, Oprah seemed to want to talk her out of her commitment. To me, Oprah's unique position as a role model to so many is incongruous with her belittling of Bristol's decision--and yes, I did sense some belittling going on.
At the start, I didn't realize the interview was headed that way. Oprah offered some good advice at first, which is advice that I have shared with single Christian women committed to waiting until marriage, probably saying something close to what Oprah advises.
Oprah tells the girls in her school in South Africa:
Make the decision before the moment arrives because when the guy is licking on your ear, it's hard to make the decision! So make the decision before the moment arrives.
I was thinking, Great advice, Oprah. I have always believed that we make decisions about how we want to act in particular situations before those situations arise. We'd be surprised how many things we could avoid altogether if that strategy were faithfully employed.
So I was with Oprah right up until a few seconds later when she said she "bristled" when she read in In Touch that Bristol stated, "I'm not going to have sex until I'm married. I can guarantee it."
Apparently Bristol's guarantee of abstinence is what alarmed Oprah, and she asked, "You don't think you're setting yourself up?"
At this point I'm thinking, "setting yourself up" for what? My confusion rested, in part, in having just heard Oprah say that she tells the African girls to do exactly what Bristol had just stated she did: make up her mind ahead of time.
Oprah's rationale was media pressure, that every guy she dates will be harassed with questions about whether Bristol had or had not remained true to that commitment. My thought here was, Hey, let the media blow it up. Better the dudes find out where I stand now than later. Better any interested guy should know where I stand before they even step to me. That way they can keep on stepping if they can't handle my plan. Truth be told, you can weed out a lot of guys from the jump that way and spare yourself the agony of dropping the "no" bomb on them later. They can't say they didn't know, can they?
Oprah, whose young adult life was not without its share of drama, trials, and tribulations, should have sincerely said to her guest, "Good for you, Bristol." Instead, she asked Bristol if she was setting herself up?! With a steely glint in her eyes, Bristol, who to me looked a bit annoyed, said, "No, I don't."
Oprah didn't say it, so I will: good for Bristol for standing by her commitment, for not backing down, for not allowing the pressure to cause her to cave in to Oprah, who appeared put off by Bristol's bold declaration of abstinence.
Had I been Bristol, however, I would have answered that question in the affirmative. When asked if I was setting myself up, I would have said, "Yes, Oprah. I am setting myself up...to achieve my goal. I'm setting myself up by doing exactly what you tell the girls in Africa: 'make the decision before the moment arrives.'"
Hey, if it's good enough for Africa, it's good enough for America.
So which one is it? Is Oprah encouraging the girls in her school to strategically choose abstinence, or when they say they have, does she pause five seconds for them to retract or ease their choice? It sounds like double talk to me. Either Bristol is supposed to stick to her guns, or she's supposed to back out. Again, which one is it, Oprah--a little of both?
When Bristol chose the former, Oprah--chuckling--said, "All right, good luck to you on that!" Belittling, demeaning, and frankly, disempowering.
I get sick and tired of people who purport to be all about the power of women and their ability to accomplish anything, except when it comes to both abstinence and giving birth to a child in less than ideal circumstances. I do not respect trying to talk a teenager, who is already raising a child, out of taking a stand on the issue. If women can do anything, they can do anything--including practicing abstinence.
Months ago, when Bristol once used the term "unrealistic" in reference to teenagers remaining abstinent, people jumped all over her. Friday, Oprah said about abstinence, "Obviously she's already had sex. So I'm just wondering if that is a realistic goal." When Bristol indicated that it is realistic for her, Oprah "bristled." This is Exhibit A of "you can't win for losing." This is why one must simply live by the courage of her own convictions as Bristol has purposed in her heart to do--and bump everybody else who doesn't believe you can. When Oprah shared the statistic that 1 out of 3 teenagers is sexually active, Bristol was unmoved. Her face seemed to say, "Well, I'll be one of the two." It may not be easy, but nothing valuable is--and she's worth it.
Abstinence is a touchy, uncomfortable subject for those who feel safer teaching birth control over abstinence. "It doesn't work," the statisticians say. News flash: abstinence, when employed, always works! It's when it's abandoned that it's rendered powerless. Besides, it seems Bristol realizes something that we could all stand to discover: though birth control protects from pregnancy sometimes, there is no birth control potent enough to protect your heart, soul, and mind from the effects of giving yourself to someone who has not given himself to you--through the commitment of marriage.
I say to Bristol in all sincerity, rather than the snarky way Oprah said it, "More power to you."
Watch the interview here.

Holy Cow, Adrienne, that was totally brilliant. I am speechless. That was amazing. You captured exactly my thoughts on this subject. Super!
I was very mad and DISAPPOINTED when Oprah asked these two questions
1) Why do you have to bath a baby that many times? IGNORANCE
2) Why do you want to set yourself up..? CONDESCENDANCE
How can O be the 'queen of talkshow' and she talks trash like that?
Bristol is a young girl who made a mistake, but she probably learned a ton from that. She deserves better. I actually felt happy for her for having the strength to break up with that loser.
Oprah promotes youth to have sex pre-marriage and make fun of someone who wants to, after her mistake, advocate abstinence until marriage?
I will write a complaint to O too!!!
Oprah does not send any more solicitations for magazines, I sent them a note back (postage paid) told them that I would never buy an O magazine, and I told them why.
Sarah 2012!
How long has Oprah been with Stedman? We all know they've been having sex outside of marriage for decades.
I agree with whoever said that the most insulting question for me what Oprah asking, "Why do babies need 2 baths a day? Do they get THAT dirty?"
Yes, Oprah, they do. Babies aren't like your dogs, that you probably bathe twice a month.
Thank you, Adrienne!
I was really disappointed to watch Oprah's reaction to a young woman, attempting to not make the same mistake again. Why was Bristol on the show? To talk about her baby, that she had as a result of making a poor choice. But, Oprah ridicules Bristol for pledging to keep herself out of the situation that put her on Oprah! Everyone realizes that she is not in ideal circumstances, but yet, Oprah doesn't give her any encouragement to stand strong in not putting herself in the same situation!
There were 2 adults in that interview, and both of them were sitting in Alaska.
Didn't shock me. As a Christian, I'm used to the world being all shocked when they find out what my standards are.
And no, it is not impossible. As a matter of fact, it makes life a whole lot easier.
How old were the African women? I think they were probably not 19. Where is there any consideration of love in sexual activity? An adult woman is certainly different from a child who is being coerced into a relationship.
I mean, seriously, after Levi, who would want to have sex ever again?
Why would you want to knock someone else's higher standards? I can understand if you don't set the bar that high for yourself, but why try to tear down or disparage those who do? You should applaud them.
Amen!
Nope!
Why would anyone want to knock someone else's higher standards? I can understand if you don't set the bar that high for yourself, but why try to tear down or disparage those who do? You should applaud them.
5 minutes before Oprah talked to Bristol, she and Sarah had a discussion about how journalism had become editorialized. Then, Oprah displayed this this very fact when she passed judgment on Bristol's noble decision. I know that Oprah's show isn't a "news" show, but it is not her place to cast judgment on Bristol for this.
Perhaps Oprah should abstain from skepticism, patronization, and judgment.
Thanks, Adrienne! I saw the interview last week. That was terrible the way Oprah pressured Bristol. It was obvious Sarah did too - especially that slight shake of her head when Oprah persisted! You said what Sarah wanted to say then.
You have to try to bring them down so you don't look so bad.
Finally a video link!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oprah was giving any guy that Bristol might date, the green light to pressure and ridicule her to let her guard down. To weaken her resolve to keep her goal, because, okay, good luck with that! (roll of the eyes)
Telling young people that it's just inevitable that they are going to be having rampant sex, and that they just aren't strong enough to say "no," sets them up for failure. It's the same as saying "Why study for that test?...you're going to fail it anyway...you just aren't smart enough," or "go ahead to that party and drink with your friends, your going to do it sooner or later."
We have young people who train for the Olympics, kids who devote hours to ballet and music and academics...all of that requires discipline and determination...and it would be so much harder for them to accomplish their goals if jaded adults told them it was a waste of time to commit themselve to a goal that's unattainable.
Also, Oprah is forgetting that Bristol is not just some giggly teen. Bristol has actually experienced the terrifying sight of a "plus sign" appearing on that pregnancy test stick..she knows the anguish of having to tell her parents...she's gone through nine months of morning sickness, stretch marks, fatigue and lumbering around like an elephant...she's endured labor and delivery, the utter exhaustion of sleep deprivation, changing poopy diapers, and the complete collapse of her social life...I expect she has just as much incentive to commit herself to abstinence as Michael Phelps has to training for the next swim meet.
Excellent Adrienne. So was your rejoinder to a certain post above. It's all they've got.
Here's why I believe Bristol Palin: Once upon a time she was young, in heat, and had sex with a bad boy. She got pregnant. Her mother was VP on McCain's ticket. The bad boy trashed her family in every venue that would pay him a quick buck. That's a lot of guilt and grief. Had the bad boy been a nice bad boy, Bristol might have been able to withstand parental admonishments (you can bet Sarah and Todd came down on her!). However, the bad boy has subjected her and her family to major humiliation, and that is a MAJOR LESSON for her. Bristol has learnt that pre-marital sex comes with a STEEP price, one she's not willing to pay—for her child, her family, and herself. Oprah can say what she wants, but Bristol is going to keep those knees crossed until Mr. Right comes along and marries her.
Yeah, she was doing that wasn't she? Classy. Showed her big heart.
So much for tolerance.
Yeah. In that first interview with Greta, she hadn't hit bottom yet.
I wish Sarah would have asked Oprah if Stedman is her beard. ;-)
How can you deny the difference between adult and child females? Not sure what the "Nope" referred to.
Levi is the best case for teen abstinence ever!
They should run an ad with Levi's picture: "Don't do it. This could happen to you."
Excellent post as usual Adrienne!
Oprah was basically saying "Don't aim to high or try to achieve something too great because you can let yourself down". I think that this really sheds light on why so many liberals despise Gov. Palin. For whatever reason there are a large number of liberal feminist women who cannot get their heads around the fact that you can have whatever you are willing to work for and achieve. You can have it all- a career, a family, morals, fun, confidence, faith, etc.
I think Gov. Palin is the epitome of this "you can have it all" mentality and it intimidates people like Oprah, who seem to make excuses for mediocrity and complacency.
So much for tolerance.
I agree. Why try to tear someone down for setting such an admirable goal? I applaud Bristol's decision.
Oprah tells the girls in her school in South Africa:
"Make the decision before the moment arrives because when the guy is licking on your ear, it's hard to make the decision! So make the decision before the moment arrives."
===
That's funny (sad) because some of the girls in Oprah's school were raped by their teachers.

I lost respect for Oprah many years ago. She always struck me as someone who is quick to make a show of empathy and sympathy, quick to hand out advice, and quick to sneer if that advice is not followed. She wasn't always that way, but somewhere along the way, she began to believe the hype surrounding her. She no longer walks the walk.
Well that was the first time I saw the interview.
Sarah was funny and charming and positive. She turned all of Oprah's stupid statements into a way to further her message.
Bristol interacted more than usual and only seemed intimidated when Oprah went after her for her pledge. When they were talking about the life of a single mom she did talk and share some.
Overall, I think it went well and I think Oprah's poor attitude toward Bristol was obvious.
There is a reason why the Oprah show is going to end soon. Glad to see Sarah getting her message out to the Oprah audience while she still can.
I applaud those who show true tolerance, like Tammy Bruce who, although she has a different set of standards, is not threatened by Christians or Governor Palin. I believe Bob Lester would fall into this category as well.
SHUT UP SANDRAINOREGON! I am really annoyed when I 'see' you here. You say nothing positive to any one. Don't try to attack Adrienne.
Awful.
That kind of reminds me of Glenn Beck's question to Sarah when he asked "can you go to Washington without losing your soul".
I think maybe any position of power and influence can change a person if they are not deeply rooted.
Adrienne,
Thanks so much for this write up. Very well said. Thanks for being a stand-up all around fantastic person.
The only thing I would say, is that a good interviewer would have noticed that Bristol is not experienced and would have stopped asking closed-ended (yes or no) questions. Someone like Sarah knows how to take the ball and run with it, Bristol just simply answers yes or no. A good interviewer would pick up on that and start asking open-ended questions instead.
Hey! I am not attacking any person. I am suggesting that there is a difference in sexual relationships for adult and young women. Sorry if I annoy you, but consider this part of normal discourse.
you'll get used to her canary. if you ignore her, she goes away. if you miss her, you can visit the liberal rag sites where she talks about how crazy we all are. if you wanna play with her, she sometimes will make actual arguments and sometimes she just spews garbage... though it is more often the later.
Exactly, she (O) is out there to try to get Sarah and Bristol. It was disgusting I watched it and felt very angry about it. I felt that whatever message Sarah and Bristol tried to send to audience did not get through. I think I heard some laughing in the audience!! I was mad
agree uffda.
Bristol talked more than she usually does and more than i expected after reading comments here after the interview. She will hopefully get better with this over time.
Until she does, I'm glad to see her on with Sarah (or Todd, like she was when she announced her Candee's Foundation thing) who have more skill to shift the stupid questions back to her message and can expound.
Bristol seems to get really quiet when she senses "gotcha" questions. And I don't blame her. It it important that she recognizes these and doesn't say anything really stupid. Overtime she will hopefully learn to handle these.
It is amazing to think that a year ago the Palin kids has some local media attention, but had never experienced the national media.
That's true.
Tacos?
O/T...
this kinda cracked me up... in a sad, but expected kinda way...
http://www.freedomslighthouse.com/2010/01/obama-mentions-himself-132-times-in.html
Bravo! If kids are expected to say no to tobacco, they can say no to sex. I mean, it's ridiculous.
Furthermore, the big push in school these days is to teach kids not to bully others. I applaud that but at the same time kids are being bullied into having sex, and the liberals don't want to acknowledge that. Abstinence teaches kids to have self-respect and self-control.
You want some?
Excellent Post Adrianne!!,
As I have said before on the previous Oprah/Bristol thread, Oprah and the world are blinded to (or jealous of) the concept of regret, repentance forgivness, and freedom and power in the true secular or true biblical sense. Assuming Bristol's regret, repentance forgvieness and power stem from God's Power and Grace; when Oprah snarkily said "Do you think this is a realistic goal?" It's wonderful she said yes. I can also see Bristol say right back to Oprah in her mind's eye "All things are possible with God."
Halle Berry has strongly stated long ago that she will have children ( she already has some) but she will swear off marriage to a man for the rest of her life.
You don't think Oprah would be snarky with Berry's "Commitment?"
Nope!
Chicken tacos yes.
It was a cat fight! Not serious confrontation.
Yes, there was some laughter, and some of it was from Oprah.
Good analysis. Why was she appointed as an Ambassador? She should have gotten some training with that designation.
OT/ I was just flipping through some of the Palin articles from this week. "America doesn't like you, Sarah! Tea Party divide, Scott Brown is the next President," etc.....
Do you ever get the feeling that the media is down on its hands and knees begging Sarah not to run? "Please, oh, please, oh, please don't run! You wouldn't make it anyway..."
They could make one of those motivational posters with Levi's picture on it "ABSTINENCE: need I say more?"
Oprah doesn't even take care of her dogs.
I get that feeling all the time Uffda. They can spout all the bs they want about how they want her to run because she is easy to beat, but deep down they know she will destroy them!
OT: Mike Pence is thinking about running in 2012. If he does, Huckabee has practically said he would endorse him. He made such statement on Greta several months ago. Pence has also agreed to speak at the SRLC is April. That is always the stepping stone for the 2012 primaries. I hope Sarah has some excellent endorsements and a good ground game in Iowa to counteract Huckabee shilling for Pence.
Also, I am beginning to think Demint might run, as a Romney stalking horse. Santorum has flamed out and it looks like Demint is the "alternate conservative" that Romney is looking for to split the vote in Iowa.
More and more of these guys are getting in, with the goal of splitting Evangelical votes from Palin.
LOL! It's transparent. The RNC are also transparent by pushing Thune, Pence, etc. as alternatives to Palin.
Palin's being smart by lining up a job at Fox and not making up her mind to run yet. It's all in Obama's court right now. If he goes centrist, he will most likely get reelected. Over half the country wants to like him. If that happens, she's set anyway.
Might I ask what the story behind the 'tacos' thing is? I always see comments about tacos and it always makes me hungry. I think I missed something.
In heat - She is not a dog.
Even if he goes Centrist, I still think she will run. Remember, she was slapping him around on facebook back in early 2009 when his approval ratings were over 60%!
I hope Sarah knocks it out of the park at the TPNC and the SRLC.
One thing that is really disgusting to me, is that all of the people are going around now to get reelected or elected and they're spouting Palin rhetoric. "Common sense conservatism."
Hmmmm. Wonder who made that popular. She's good enough to steal material from, but not good enough to run for President, apparently.
Think I'm gonna head to bed now. Thank you once again for the excelllent post Adrienne! I can go to bed happy tonight! Goodnight everyone!
I don't think you'd find these particular tacos very appetizing. At least they don't sound very good.
On Josh Painters site.
Jennifer Harper: Tea Party Pile On *
Jennifer Harper, in Wednesday morning's "Inside the Beltway" column in the Washington Times:
There's a media pile-on afoot. Led primarily by the New York Times, a variety of news organizations are attacking the National Tea Party Convention, scheduled to begin Feb. 4 in Nashville, Tenn., with Sarah Palin as the keynote speaker. The Times claims the event is a "profiteering" enterprise, suggesting that the convention violates the grass-roots nature of the "tea party" movement. "Fractiousness," territorial disputes and suspiscions have cast a shadow over the effort, the paper says.
Yet the event is sold out. There's a waiting list, even among those seeking entrance to Mrs. Palin's speech alone. Eight sponsors include Judicial Watch, the Eagle Forum and the National Taxpayers Union. The convention center is ready, the surf and turf waiting.
"It is going to be a great event. We have a lot of people who are coming who are very excited about the event, and I think they are going to leave inspired and with some great new tools to take back to their groups," organizer Judson Phillips tells Inside the Beltway.
He adds that few journalists "have bothered" to get his side of the story, which has been ramped up in the last 48 hours by the Los Angeles Times, Politico, CBS News, MSNBC, the Atlantic, Media Matters for America and other sources.
It's a classic — and convenient — media frenzy.
"A lot of individuals want to get involved in the political process, in the organization of the tea party movement. And now we find that the news media is seizing on this, and extrapolating that the tea party is in trouble or divided," John O'Hara tells The Beltway.
He is the author of the new book "A New American Tea Party," and contends that tea party believers, while representing a spectrum of ideas, are united by the same motivation: the well-being of the nation.
"The press has tried to marginalize the tea party movement from the beginning. They recognize it as a potent political force, and they want to do it in. A little less than a year ago, these same journalists were dismissing the tea party as a 'fringe' phenomenon, not even worth their time," Mr. O'Hara says.
"Now they smell blood," he adds
I've always kinda wanted her to run even if she didn't win so she could get more experience with national politics. 2016 sounds good too.
I've always liked this one:
http://pix.motivatedphotos.com/2008/9/6/633563357658603472-regretsivehadafewsarahpalindemotivator.jpg
A later evening conversation about food led to a discussion about the yumminess of cow tongue tacos. It gets brought up every once in a while, when appropriate :)
Good article, Adrienne.
Bristol seems to be making some really smart decisions right now. I hope she keeps this up.
Perhaps if the baby born to Oprah at 15 had survived and she had to raise it, and take care of it morning, noon, and night, she too might have deided to abstain until such a time where she was mature, married and ready for a sexual relationship.
Huckabee is irrelevant.
Such arguments are rare indeed.
Power corrupts....absolute power corrupts absolutely, term limits for all of them so they cant fall victim to the DC disease.
I'm still trying to figure out why the newsrags are promoting Kendra the trashy playmate and Kourtney Kardasshian and their respective pregnancies as if they were wonderful events that should be celebrated by all, (YET, Bristol Palin, who's situation was almost the same (except she wasn't posing naked on reality show) is treated as something to be ashamed of.
Why was Bristol trashed for being an unwed mother while Kendra, Kourtney and all the rest of them are glorified as thought they were saints?
I refuse to go to most movies if I know the politics of the actors and producers/directors. Same with lots of tv shows. I am a point in life where I speak with my wallet.
I enjoy going into Lowes and telling them, sorry, don't even show me anything made by GE, I won't buy it. My son does wish I would relent and buy Ben and Jerry's. I tell him, Absolutely not. They will never get my money ever again.
It's not just liberals, it's Romney/Keene loving, establishment type GOPers like Erik Erickson.
Levi Johnston: Why you should not have sex with your teenage boyfriend.
That is incredible!:)
LOL!
Ad Campaign installment 1 - http://tiny.cc/cNzzw
That was awesome, Adrienne! You should email it to Oprah too!!
Teenager should ALWAYS be taught abstinence. When I hear about teens having sex, I think WAYYYYYYYYYYYY too young. Teachers should really focus on teaching abstinence and empowering young girls to keep their promise for their own sake.
Come on Adrienne: What kind of response is that? An adult should have some latitude and choice in these decisions.
Who says anyone's taking anyone's choice away? Bristol's just saying what she has decided to do and says that it's a good goal to have.
Here's Laura Ingrahm talking about it on her show - http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=04DFD59A0D4180FF
Did I say she's a dog? "In heat" quite precisely describes any human, especially teenage ones, engaging in illicit sexual activity.
Now she has, and she's a LOT wiser. When Momma says don't, she's gonna listen.
Sad-ra, you dingbat, Bristol has MADE her choices. Oprah CHOSE to publically insult her, belittle her and criticise her for her sincere CHOICES. Oprah obviously would prefer that Bristol would now become the typical tabloid millionaire's daughter and run around with no pants with Paris Hilton so the "O" could gleefully and cattily rip her apart in her oh, so condescending snarky way.
Who would ever want to have sex with Oprah?
My comment may be a little late and many may not view it. I really needed sometime to think all this over.
Why should we expect the unrighteous to be or display righteous behavior for which they are uncapable of?
"From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" Adrienne might put it this way: Can you get blood from a turnip? W-e-l-l?
Why should we be surprised when they validate there disdain and contempt for concepts (purity, restoration, forgiveness, repentance) that they have no knowledge of, experience with, or desire for?
What happened to their own slogan that they promoted in school: "Just say No!"
Or did that only apply to drug usage? Ummm.
Take for a minute the incident with Britt Hume who encouraged Tiger Woods to turn to Christianity for it is the only place to seek forgiveness. Although he stood by his statement, for which I'm grateful, he was ridiculed by the media.
I appreciate the post. I appreciate that we here at C4P have the opportunity to rally to the Palins side, especially Bristol, to cheer her on when doing good and to hold her up when things were not such an idea circumstance.
This is why, I believe, the Governor stands heads and shoulders above the other politicians. She is willing to go in to the camp of the unrighteous to perhaps reach that one single soul that may have needed that very message of strength and hope found from the example of one who has exposed, once again, the emptiness of the rhetoric that comes from a barren land.
Thanks and honor goes to Bristol for her willingness and desire to stand up and let the light come through for women and for life.
This is a great post. I realize my thoughts are at the end and may not be read by many, but I had to respond.
Why are we surprised when the unrighteous does not response in a righteous way and instead validates their disdain and contempt toward anything righteous?
"From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" Or as Adrienne might ask: "Can you get blood from a turnip?"
If this interview reached one soul that needed to hear from Bristol--who like her mother--exposes the empty rhetoric of the liberal left, that there is hope and there are people out there who will stand up with you and there is forgiveness and restoration and there is a precious LIFE and you still can have a future, although it will not be what you imaged, it will be what has been ordained for you as an individual, then the show was worth it.
It's so ironic that a zerO supported another zerO who claimed to offer people hope but when it comes down to it its only zerO. ummm
I'm heartened that C4P can rally around Bristol and the Governor when the effort is to do good and when things were not such an ideal circumstance. Consistent FRIENDS for such a time, oh what a time!
This is another way America will be destroyed by its voting system.
The conservative vote is split allowing a moderate to be the nominee and in turn defeated by a Democrat.
Are you so stupid to see this?
AMERICAS ELECTORAL SYSTEM MUST BE CHANGED!
Sorry, but when I think of in heat, it's an animal.
Adrienne:
Wonderful post! You write many great ones, but this one ranks in my top 3.
Look, have a little mercy, people, Oprah is very busy right now. I mean, she's currently having people sign promises of not using their cell phone while driving...a vow...a contract...about something that can be dangerous if done carelessly...um, wait a minute....
My grandmother used to say there was someone for everybody. For the most part I think she meant that someday my prince will come. And eventually he did. Grammas are generally correct on everything.
Wow, that blew me away- thanks Adrienne- perhaps The New Agenda.net might want to republish it- wish I had a daughter to share it with- but I have a niece and the article is on the way to her
Bristol is a strong and courageous young woman. I know she can accomplish anything she puts her heart and mind to do. She is raising a precious gift from God. That day, the day she decided to have Tripp and not allow the world tell her how to run her life, (have an abortion, your not ready, your too young, you have your whole life ahead of you, it's only tissue) is the day she stood her ground and made the choice to live her life on principles, in other words, she embraced the responsibility of being a mother to Tripp; she made a conscience decision for her life between right and wrong.
Bristol, you made a wise decision for yourself and for Tripp.
God bless Bristol and Tripp in the name of Jesus.
I think Bristol and $arah need to offer a retraction. Bristol said a year ago on GVS show that Abstinsence does not work, and $arah misrepresnets her views per this website.
http://prolifeprofiles.com/palin
I think you're missing the point of Oprah's remarks; it's not about whether or not abstinence is a good or bad thing. As has been pointed out, Oprah herself has recommended abstinence before so she's hardly against the concept.
Rather, it's about the wisdom of a young woman, who has already been exposed to public ridicule, announcing publically to the world she will definitely achieve this goal when she has already previously failed to meet it, thus setting herself up for more public ridicule.
It seems to me that this has more to do with her mother and her political ambitions, than for Bristol's own sake.
P.
Bristol never said it did not work.
It seems to me like you don't get it. It's not Oprah's business whether or not Bristol announces anything to the world. And if you mean what you say, why not announce it!
