Do Republicans and Conservatives Hate David Frum?
David Frum responds to Jennifer Rubin's article in Commentary titled "Why Jews Hate Palin."
First off, Frum is right that the poll that Rubin cites doesn't really prove her case because 37% approval from Jews is actually very good considering that the religious group overwhelmingly votes for Democrats. Frum then goes on to assert:
Palin excites intense support among a core group of conservative Republicans....She polls poorly...among independents.I'll give Frum credit for changing what he considers Palin's core group of support from "social conservatives" to the broader group of "conservative Republicans." After all, with some recent polling showing Palin to hold a robust 79% favorable rating among all Republicans, you cannot really make the claim anymore that her core group of support is just social conservatives.
However, I don't know why it's surprising that a conservative Republican's core group of support would be "conservative Republicans." After all, a liberal Democrat like Barack Obama finds his core group of support "liberal Democrats." Of course, Frum doesn't note that some polling shows that Palin is relatively popular among conservative independents and conservative Democrats but don't give Frum too hard of a time as he didn't bother to cite much in his article.
Frum also asserts that Palin polls poorly among independents. I suppose it depends on how you define "poorly" because recent polling indicates her favorability among independents is 49% according to the Battleground poll and Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll and they are divided in their opinions about her in the most recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll.
I contend that Rubin's premise is flawed because the McCain/Palin ticket didn't do significantly worse among American Jews than the Bush/Cheney ticket in 2000 or 2004. However, Frum goes on to point out how well Bill Clinton and Bobby Kennedy performed well with Jews as evidence of....well, I cannot figure it out. David, all that's evidence of is that Democrats perform well with Jews in the same way that Republicans perform well with evangelical born-again Christians.
What we do know is that this blog was started off with $10 whereas Frum needed professional consultants to start his venture and yet, more Americans visit this blog on a daily basis than FrumForum/New Majority/whatever Frum will name his blog next.
To conclude, I'll answer the question that I asked in the title to this post. The reason why conservatives and Republicans do not care about what you have to say is not because they hate you. It's because conservatives and Republicans doubt your intellectual capacity for the job of leading our party/movement to a comeback. But that's only the start of the list of problems.....

David Frum, please go away. Maybe it's because we conservatives don't trust Canadians or Brits (the slovenly Christopher Hitchens) who ocassionally pose as conservatives just to serve his/her purpose.

Frum fancies himself some kind of deep intellectual thinker, but in reality he is anything but. He is a dime a dozen, just another big government elite who thinks his superior intellect, education, and media access gives him some divine ability to lead. Well, the truth is no one will follow David Frum anywhere even if he was paying the dinner tab.
Hate is too strong a word, but David Frum represents everything that is wrong with the Republican Party. His theme seems to be "No bold colors please, someone might be offended. Pale pastels only". The GOP has basically been doing it his way the last 4-5 years, and look at the result.
There's just something about the Davids.
David Brooks (aka "that Brooks dude")- he's all about Obama's perfectly creased pants and thinks Sarah is a joke. He doesn't get it.
David Axelrod- He claims that the Obama administration doesn't talk about her, yet it's pretty obvious that Sarah is indeed "living rent free" in Obama's head.
David Frum- His website has fewer hits than the Rams defense either or the Washington Nationals, yet he feels that he can twist the fact to support his findings and get away with it.
Just as an aside, I find it interesting that there is such a term as "conservative Republican". This term should be redundant, but I suppose that is what is wrong with the Republican party (but hopefully improving). If the Republican party stood firmly on its planks, there wouldn't be need for ideological distinctions within the party.
Frum is an idiot, he and Rubin got it all worng. Jews for the most "LIKE" Palin. She stands for everything they stand for. Sure some progressive jews don't like her but in the same way any typical liberal progressive.
Frum claims about Palin's "willful divisvenes". Well, I have never heard Governor Palin divide Americans into classes, if anything she's the one trying to merge the so called second class into one class called "Americans". If there is any one with a "willful divisvenes" it's no other than David Frum himself.
GO David spend all your money on professional consultants maybe when you are done you'll shut up!
Where is this ignorant Frum from anyway?! Did Jennifer Rubin's article say "Jews disdain working class occupations" or is this Frum's ignorance at full bloom? Did Jennifer Rubin's article say "Jews hate Palin because Jews disapprove of large families" or is this a unique perception Frum developed at Aryan Nation Summer Camp?

Unfortunately, I have to agree with your sentiments about the British - and I myself am British! Over here we've completely lost our way. Our politicians are so useless that if one were to trip on stone and fall over, they would apologise to the stone for getting in its way and then give it a Diversity Award, or something. Whereas a common sense politician like, oh I don't know, Sarah Palin, would pick up the stone, throw it out of the way and then carry on.

If the Genie in the Bottle granted me three wishes, I would ask for David Frum's mouth to be duct taped for 30 more years, his hands to be tied behind his back so that he couldn't type on a keyboard, and ask the Genie to give Frum a one-way ticket to some far off island so that he could learn to play bongos and talk to a Volleyball.
I do not think that Palin would do worse than any other conservative candidate with the Jewish voters . For historical reasons- which in many ways- no longer makes sense (and I am Jewish) Jews are liberal. FDR and Truman and Kennedy are their icons. Being pro Israel helps but not that much- Jews never liked Reagan or GW even though they both were very supportive of the State of Israel. As a voting bloc the only state where a real effort could be made to turn that around is in Florida. First the jews there tend to be more conservative than those in NY and NJ and because Fla. is purple and not blue just an increase in a small percentage of Jewish support could help cary the state.
The Jews I know love Palin. They are Reagan Republicans. With the "bowing" that goes on before the Israel hating UN and Islam things need to change! The problem isn't with Palin or Republicans. The problem is with liberal Jews who have yet to show me how they justify their positions. There Frum smoke that!

Same here, most of my family members are Democrats but they are more like Reagan republicans, they vote for whoever is good for Israel..a few of them are liberals who will vote Dem no matter what but the rest of them voted Republican in the last three elections. Even my Mom who is a Registered Democrat voted Republican three times(2000, 2004 and 2008) and she adores Sarah Palin..we are Jewish, family is from Israel, the ones that were born here, they are the ones who dont give a damn about israel, we call them self hating jews because they are..the reason why liberal jews dont like Sarah is because Sarah Palin cares more about Israel then they ever will and they cant stand that fact
Frum and his wife Danille Crittenden can be counted among the liberal Jews who don't like Palin. You can add to that Debbie whatshername, the woman who threatened to turn me into the FBI along with the Muslims who are harassing her if I continue to post on her website, David Axelrod, and David Brooks (who sleeps with 0bama's pants under his pillow.)

Well, count me as one born in Canada who loves Sarah! Brooks and Frum are just courting favour with the Beltway types. They want to get invited to all the right parties where they can be fawned upon. I guess if that's one's ambition in life, then God Bless you! But these guys are increasingly irrelevant and look more and more foolish all the time. Saw Brooks the other day on TV defending the Obama administration - he was just as in-the-tank as the known lefties on the panel, and even moreso than one of them.

But as I understand it, not very many ethnically Jewish people practice the Jewish religion.
Which is probably why it puzzles conservative Christians as to why Jews as a voting bloc would not be supportive of Palin.
In fact, I think I read that ethnic Jewish people make up one of the largest sectors of atheists.
Now that would explain why they wouldn't be big Palin supporters.
I would love to get the Body Language Expert Lady to analyze David Frum's reaction to Governor Sarah Palin on video, at any time saying, "whoever that dude is", about him, like she did about David Brooks.
He might have to go out and pout, under the tree that he carved David hearts Obama, into.
I don't like David Frum because all he does is bash conservatives like Palin, Beck, and Limbaugh. He never has any ideas of his own, he just criticizes everyone else. He is like Colin Powell, he says we need to moderate and all that crap but he never has any ideas of his own. Plus he looks a lot like that Mauser guy from the 2nd and 3rd Police Acedemy movies and that guy was a real jerk just like Frum is.

Actually, I think Frum is going to play (or should play) a big roll in the mid terms and in 12. He should be the litmus test. True conservatives will be saying "We don't need any more Frum Republicans!" or "Frum Republicans got us into this mess", etc. and RINO's will be saying things like "How dare you call me a Frum Republican?!" as they watch their numbers tank. The distance a candidate can put between himself/herself and Frum will determine electability.
Conservatives can have bumper stickers made up saying "The Front Runner vs The Frum Runner"... We can have a ball with the guy! Look at him!
...and a goodly number of commenters on this thread would throw it at the David of their choice and keep on going.

I really want to challenge Frum's numbers.
As regards her polling poorly among independetnts, according to recent polls, her number samong them are pretty much in the same ballpark as Obama and Biden. Better than Pelosi and Reid. Certainly right there with any other Republican if not better.
Not bad for a "failed Vice Presidential candidate" who has been the subject of the most vicious media assault ever conducted against one person and their family for close to a year and a half now, and who resigned their position in a move that could very well have ended her political career and turned into a laughingstock or someone who is totally irrelevant on the scene. Not bad for any Republican when they've had the worst 3 years in the party since at least Watergate if not earlier. Imagine where she'd be if she was still in office and/or got even 10% of the media treatment Obama has gotten.
I see no reason why she can't get up to at least 50% among independents by the summer of 2012 if she so desired. And 50% among independents is plenty.
As for why Jews don't like her, it's because most Jews are urban secular liberals from the Northeast who are pro-choice/anti-gun/anti-GOP/anti-Bush etc... and urban secular liberals from the Northeast don't like rural christian/evangelical conservatives from the West or South. I suspect among Jewish conservatives and more religious Jews she does great. But when the vast majority of Jews are liberal dems, she's not going to do too well among them as a whole. No surprise there.
She does do well among Orthodox Jews. I know an Orthodox Jewish Rabbi who <span>loves</span> her. Same with everyone in his Synagogue according to him--look at Jackie Mason! (and he's a Rabbi)
As an urban Catholic, I can tell you from experience that she's got her work cut out for her with urban Catholics. But most Catholics aren't urban Catholics anymore. Most have spread out to all areas of the country. Mac/Sarah lost the Catholic vote primarily because Catholics were uninformed. Many priests/bishops in the U.S. aren't exactly profiles in courage, and the beaurocracy is run by Lefties. This is changing--it mirrors the rest of the country. I predict she'll crush O with Catholics <span>when </span>she runs. A lot of us Catholics are trying to make sure of it.
In many ways, what's going on in the country is a battle between urban and rural America and the Suburbs are the battleground. If Sarah can get rural America to turn out big (and she can), and at least keeps it close in the suburbs, she's in. I think she'll win the suburbs by a big margin. That would mean a landslide.

I am a nascar loving, country western music, Palinista from the traditionally liberal West Side of LA( think Waxman as the cogressman). I try and expalin Obama's anti Israel mood to them and to other Jewish people and get deer in head like looks. Even among orthdox( such as a very famous Zionist- producer director studio owner) she is disliked...I suspect it is the elitism that westsiders feel towards anyone anywhere-Except for new york city jews( who turn their noses up at westsiders too) , westsiders are the most elite group I have ever met. So it is not surprising tome that the NYC and WLA Jews dislike a person who reflects the heartland like Sarah...she hunts, she goes to church,she didnt go to UCLA USC, or those eastern ivy leagues etc

I don`t hate frum, I just view him as I would any other out of touch/elitist/squishy/no moral compass having nincompoop. He is as relevant to REAL WORLD politics and policy as the maitr`d at the local bistro is too brain surgery.

I totally agree Mark. I think last year's election was completely an urban vs. rural contest, with suburbs being the swing vote. I think the election in VA and NJ recently showed suburbs swinging AGAINST the Democrats and the Obama agenda. It could be a very good year for Republicans if this trend continues.
I don't know, I pretty much hate the guy. For these reasons:
-he fraudulently purports to speak for a group who have never claimed him and with whom he has substantial disagreement with on all major issues;
-he claims to be an intellectual and the better of most Americans, yet he demonstrates no particular intellectual or other achievement;
-he is packing around a big load of bitterness, apparently related to the rejection of his writing and his blog by conservatives;
-he personalizes his disagreements with virtually everyone right of center;
-he is prone to PDS and other related syndromes that infect the far left, including his pals in phoniness, Trouser Crease Brooks and the gay OB-GYN at the Atlantic; and
he is Canadian.
Lets face it, Frum is a good illustration of the maxim that Liberalism is a Mental Disorder. More than a 'new majority,' a new blog or a new job, Frum needs nothing so much as intensive counseling and a long, long vacation in Canada or Europe.

Now, now James23, there are lots of reasons to dislike Frum, but please leave out the "Because he's Canadian." There are at least 2 Canadians (I'm one of them) that post here who are wild about Sarah! And a vacation in Canada wouldn't be such a good idea for Frum right now. It's so freakin' cold that he'd just stay inside on his computer all day and blog. Something else just came to mind - the warmists want to reduce our temps from -20 to -22 in order to save the planet. LOL
