Dan Calabrese: Very Bright Moron Nate Silver’s Advice to Sarah Palin
Yesterday Nate Silver, some uninformed clown with whom I was unfamiliar, wrote a piece in which he, ostensibly, dispensed some sage and much needed advice to Governor Palin. In reality, his piece amounted to nothing more than a standard Palin hit-piece laced with most of the discredited mainstream media talking points against her thinly veiled as fatherly advice from someone far more knowledgeable than she. Presumably, were Governor Palin to heed the advice of this self described "rational progressivist", whatever that is, any obstacles that remained in her path would suddenly be removed and she would be free to move on to bigger and better things.
I thought about fisking this piece of...er...journalism yesterday but the constraints of time prevented me from doing so. Fortunately, Dan Calabrese, to whom we have linked many times in the past, has done so today in a piece for the North Star National. Here are a few excerpts from Calabrese's excellent smack down of Nate Silver:
I hate to pick on Nate Silver, although I don’t hate it that much, but every once in a while someone writes a piece that is so steeped in everything wrong with “smart” conventional thinking, it simply has to be used as an object lesson.
[...]
Among other things, Silver explains to us that Palin “just ain’t that bright.” OK. By contrast, I would glean from this piece that Silver is a very bright moron, which is to say that he has a very intricate understanding of notions that are wrong.
[...]
Nate, Sarah Palin knows you think the manner in which she wrote her notes is dumb. She doesn’t care, and she’s mocking you for caring about something so trivial. Just like a very bright moron would.Somebody needed to tell Palin that using the term “death panels” was probably not going to help her personally at a time when she was trying to demonstrate to her critics that she could be credible about policy.
Um, Nate, do you ever pay any attention to the actual development of policy? Or do you only pay attention to politics and MSM headlines? You do know that Palin’s statement was correct, don’t you? You do know that the operative passage was quietly (although not quietly enough) stripped from the bill after Palin’s comments, don’t you? You do know that Palin’s statement about the death panels helped galvanize the opposition that appears to have brought down the bill. Don’t you?
Oh, that stupid Sarah Palin! How can super-smart people like Nate Silver take her seriously on policy? How, oh how? Well, there is the fact that the actual policy in question is now going nowhere, thanks in no small part to Sarah Palin talking about death panels. That might be regarded as a serious policy achievement. But not by the likes of very bright morons like Nate Silver, who know that conventional wisdom scoffed at Palin for what she said, but don’t understand what actually happened as a result of what she said.
The rest of Silver’s piece can be summed up as sounding like it was written by a college sophomore who fancies himself as the next Bob Shrum, which, come to think of it, is a very moronic thing to hope to be, in a bright sort of way.
But here is the key fact that Silver is completely incapable of ever understanding, let alone appreciating:
Sarah Palin doesn’t care what he thinks. Sarah Palin doesn’t care what the well-connected think. Sarah Palin doesn’t care what people like Joe Scarborough think, he being the former congressman and MSNBC host who declared today that “top conservatives” are upset with Palin for supposedly not studying the issues, even though she actually receives briefings daily on key issues.
Read the rest of Calabrese's piece here. It's a great read and well worth your time.

I can't believe people still don't get the truth about "death panels" and that end of life talks with your doc is not death panel reference. How do these people consider themselves smart and informed when they don't have a clue?
Excellent piece by Calabrese. He does a great job of highlightening intellegentsia type thinking as the sham that it is. I've got to plug a book I'm currently reading, Intellectuals and Society by Thomas Sowell (that guy is a genius, I love his work). "The intellectuals exaltation of "reason" often comes at the expense of experience, allowing them to have sweeping confidence about things in which they have little or no knowledge or experience."
People are tired of being dictated to by the smart morons.
Im waiting for Shawn to have Sarah sitting right next to Beckel on the great american panel...If It's SUBSTANCE Beckel thinks she's lacking... let's see! take these guys on, one by one... it would be like the VP debate where Biden met Sarah... his death panel of one!

Thank you Doug for posting this article! It was very good!
I would recommend all here become a friend of Dan Calabrese on Facebook and join the North Star National Page. They have some good articles for the most part. All I have seen have been conservative articles though there may be some other ones out there.

You Can't Keep a Good Woman Down
Sarah strikes again.
This weekend, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin delivered a stem-winder, barn-burner of a speech to the first Tea Party Convention. She spoke passionately of first principles: limited government, fiscal restraint, the Constitution. She had the crowd in the palm of her hand, but they share her views anyway. Now, however, we find that up to 80 percent of the American people share her views. According to Gallup, 78% of Americans disapprove of the liberal Congress. Remember: until new MA Senator Scott Brown was sworn in last week, Republicans could not stop anything the Democrats wanted to do. The Democrats luxuriated in their supermajorities and force-fed the American people a steady diet of Far-Left, progressive nightmares.
Now, close to 80% of the people reject those policies and the members of Congress who have rammed them down our throats, against our will and against the national interest.
Sarah clearly ain't alone out there. She's got a lot of company. 80% worth.
This is why the Left continues to try to take her down. On Saturday night, she spoke from the heart---and apparently from her palm. She had jotted down a few words on her hand to help her remember key themes: "energy," "tax cuts," and "lift America's spirit."
All sound pretty good to me---and to 80% of our fellow citizens. Which is why the Left attacked her for her crib notes as if she had clubbed a baby seal to death. Folks on the Far-Left websites like the Huffington Post made fun of her, invoking that oh-so-original attack that she's an idiot.
The problem for them is threefold: 1) She is clearly a very intelligent woman; 2) 80% of the American people are on her side; and 3) All of the idiots are on their side. (The Bama goes woefully off-message without his TelePrompter and pronounces the silent "p" in "corpsmen"; Biden doesn't know what "Avatar" is; and Rahm Emanuel manages to offend every group possible every time he opens his gutter mouth.)
This is why Sarah Palin is always happy. Because she knows who she is, she's secure in herself and her positions, she knows those positions are right, and 80% of us agree with her. Why be bummed out that the HuffPost is coming at you for a couple of pen marks on your hand?
In fact, Sarah took it right back to the idiots. At an event today, she waved, revealing a palm written with "Hi, Mom!"
In other words, "Hey Far-Left nuts: Bite me."

I sincerely hope she avoids those talking heads shouting matches that Hannity and many others do.
Just got a SarahPAC email. Thanking us for support and saying how she will be out there this election season!
Honestly, Beckel is an insect compared to her. She shouldnt lower herself to be on a panel with that idiot.
OT: Yay! Look what the dems are trying to buy with our taxes!!! Price tag- 50 million dollars!

The only fatherly advice Sarah needs comes from Chuck.
Thanks for mentioning that book, MJ! That's one that is on my list to read.
It will become much more difficult for anyone to diminish Sarah's abilities and capabilities due to the 4 appearances she made over the weekend. But as I wrote on yesterday the interview with Chris Wallace was huge, even imho more important than the speech at the TP convention. Even Palin's worst critics admit she delivers one hell of a speech, but when Brit Hume calls Palin's performance on Fox News Sunday as "impressive" and so many folks remark on that performance you know that this interview may become just as important to her political future as the speech at the RNC convention on Sept 3, 2008.
That was how good the Wallace interview was. Superstars rarely disappoint. And they have the talent to get better and better with time, practice, and applying themselves to improve.
It was not an accident that Palin let the word out just before the speech at the TP convention and her interview with Wallace that she receives daily briefings from prominent folks in Washington. Politicos know what this mean. They have seen this scenario play out with several presidential candidates over the years. This is not good news for the Romney or Huckabee camps.
It's good to know that, in addition to C4P, there are other PDS czars out there ready to fisk at a moment's notice. Thanks for posting, Doug!

Woah! didn't mean to imply Sarah would demean herself, I feel pretty much like you guys... it's not going to happen but was a way of saying she would clean their clock... thought that was understood.

Here's an editorial from the Salina Kansas newspaper.
Sarah Palin's star power
Editorial:
If the GOP is serious about winning back the White House, they need to find a way to harness the energy, populist appeal and star power of Sarah Palin.
She's the closest thing to Reagan the GOP has had since Reagan, and when you see her in person, it's difficult to believe the Republicans had her on the 2008 ticket and didn't do better than they did.
A sold-out crowd of 6,000 showed up Friday night for Palin's speech at the annual Salina Area Chamber of Commerce gathering at the Bicentennial Center. The bulk of the crowd probably had never been to a chamber dinner and probably won't ever go again -- unless Palin returns. They were there to see the only person in the GOP who can match President Obama in charisma, and she pushed all the right buttons.

Mary Katharine Hamm just tweeted this:
mkhammer Really? Palin already made that joke. Kinda loses its punch. RT @WestWingReport: Gibbs took a shot at Palin, had stuff written on his hand.
Hmm....Gibbs is making fun of Sarah, but of course she's not in the heads of anyone at the WH.
Have any of the big dogs, like Rush,Hannity, or Fox commentators mentioned the "Hi mom" hand response to the loons? This should get out there, people will love it 'cause they can't stand the press and would enjoy the spunk & in-your-face attitude.
OT: Hey guys, check out this photo of Sarah in the act of writing those fateful hand signals!

Also some cutie bts pix of Piper.
OMG did you guys watch pam destroy joy behar?
IT WAS FANTASTIC.
Anybody keeping an ear on Obama's press "conference"????..Listened for about 45 seconds and thought I was going to loose my lunch. Saying "The public has soured on the process". Geeeez....I don't think Obama and his cronies will EVER get it.
{{{{{IT'S NOT THE PROCESS...IT'S THE POLICY STOOPID}}}}}.....**she says screaming**
Governor Palin is still living rent free in the minds of the Administration...
Bagdad Bob Gibbs shows the White House press corpse (heh) his left hand, where he wrote "Eggs, Milk, Bread, Hope, Change."
Guys, Are next task is to get Sarah At least 20% in the the CPAC Straw poll. this is an important poll and we know mitt is going to win it, but we need to keep sarah in a good standing. She may not be there but people need to vote in this straw poll.

As for Sarah She needs to plan her speech with Mccain on the very same day/ time as Mitt Romney's Cpac speech to deflect any possible boost he may get before he goes into his book tour march 2nd.

Fox will Pick Sarah over Romney when it comes to giving speechs. so she should figure out what time Romney gives his Cpac Speech and give a speech with Mccain at that same time.
These people will never understand that Governor Palin will never care what they say, because her ears are attuned to what the people closest to her say about her.
She is not "working" for the here and now, because as every Christian knows, this world is not our home. We are striving for the day, when we stand before our King, and long for Him to be proud of our service to His Kingdom.
That is the first "Person" that she cares about.
Next comes the closest people on earth to her.
And this is where the Proverbs 31 woman character traits of Governor Palin shines through.
Verse 10-A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
Verse 11-Her husband has full confidence in her
Verse 12-She brings him good, not harm all the days of her life.
Verse 23-Her husband is respected at the city gate
These verses are exactly the relationship we see in Todd and Sarah's marriage. Todd is so very proud of Sarah and has full confidence in her and her abilities. He is also respected by leaders, and he is assisted in this, because of her good works and good character in public and business circles. She cares about bringing honor and respect to her husband and his name. She cares about what Todd says about her and her actions.
Verse 28-Her children arise and call her blessed
She strives to be able to look her children in the eye, and know she has been honest, trustworthy, kind, forthright, courageous and true. She teaches her children to do what is right, and sometimes she uses words. She cares what her children say about her, so much so, that she consults them on career decisions. Because she wants them to be blessed by what she does with her life. She wants to be a blessing to them. This can be seen in her decision to not run for an elected office some years ago, because Track nixed it.
So, to all of these people that give her "advice".....circle of advisors is pretty tight.....and I think you have to either be her Savior, or be blood related to her.
Beehive
Thanks and more thanks.... you come up with the greatest stuff. Blessings
Yes, Sean and Rush both mentionned it, as did Levin. They all said basically Sarah is playing with the minds of the media.
That would have been fun to watch. Pam Gellar is not someone the lamestream media wants to mess with. She is wicked smart.
Nancy, Hello!
Been seeing lots of your great stuff and wanted to say... thanks! and Bless you a bunch.

Yeah boy, did you see the way she practically leaped from her seat to defend Todd when Wallace asked her about the released emails.
I'd have to check but I'd guess that Wallace probably leaned back in his chair over that ferocious answer.
Mama Grizzly move over for Wife Grizzly!
Bob's going to come up 2 items short on his grocery list.
*She does not care that people are making fun of her for writing on her hand, because the closest ones to her, have probably seen her do it before. She does not care to the point that she uses it in a humorous way, to show the double standard bubble the media has put her in. She has not brought disgrace to her God or her family, so, she writes "who cares on her hand", with a laugh.
Nancy-That was beautiful and oh so true! Not to mention that you probably sent any PDS-stricken trolls into a collective hissy fit by quoting the Bible. :)
Yogi posted a link with clips from that on the open thread. I think it's on Gateway Pundit.
Living in their heads rent free.
The media can't stop talking about Sarah. The WH can't stop thinking about Sarah. Ordinary Barbarians can't stop posting about Sarah.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT THIS WOMAN?
I'll admit that Sarah is a bit like a legal narcotic. She has an intoxicating effect. They say Bill Clinton was this way ... when he looked at you he made you feel like your were the only one in the room. Marilyn Monroe had this as well. Observers say it was like she could "make love to the camera." And every set of eyes in the room followed her around. She was magnetic.
I suppose all leaders and celebrities have this factor. The beauty of Sarah is that she's using her God-given charisma for good. When she looks out at the room for he speeches, she penetrates through to each individual's heart. She really is addressing one person at a time. There is that sense of connection that you don't get from many other speakers.
Even the haters can't ignore her. I think that's pretty revealing.
Just watch, this "handgate" is gonna backfire on the WH like death panels. They couldn't help but bring up death panels after Sarah said it. It only made her stronger because she's in their melons.
Ha! Or married to her!:)
Boy, that "or blood related to her" could be taken the wrong way!:)
Trig Truthers could have had a whole new "scandal" to go bonkers over!:)
The white house is paying attention and responding to a private citizen. YUP!
Nancy
Hi for one!... been seeing you and laughing my head off as usual... but what you just penned is absolutely as glorious and inspiring a thing as could only come from one who them-self is in-tuned to God as Sarah is... Your heart and soul exactly as you wrote... Awesome!
They probably think Pro-verbs is some sort of Pro-life propaganda book.
Sarah signs book where ever she is... we see it all the time, seems everyone brings books. A perpetual book tour, so to speak, at the publics request... She never disappoints those she serves, in other words, the human race!
They did the same condescending thing after "death panels." We all know how that worked out.
I will go out on a limb here: Within a few weeks Obama's strongly disapprove number will surpass his total approve. He will be a lameduck walking. And it may already have happened.
Bestbud,
Thank you for your kind and encouraging words! You are the best!
By the way, Angel Girl is getting a big kick out of this "handgate" story!
And she says to tell you, Hi!
God bless you and your family! Love ya!
Yeah I know, I was not going after you bestbud. I was just trashing Beckel :)
Nancy
Thanks.... all right, let me guess cause I've sleep since then, is Angel Girl the rice eater? Tell her I wrote Hi to her on my hand and held it up to the computer just now, tell them both I still show their pictures to everyone! my youngest granddaughter uses my computer when she is over and likes to see them.
Rent free.
