Midday Open Thread (Update: CNN to carry Keynote Live)
We'll have an open thread for Governor Palin's keynote address tonight later in the day. Her speech is scheduled for 9 PM EST and can be seen live on Fox News, MSNBC, C-Span, PJTV, and Palintv. Expect the speech to last between 30 to 45 minutes and then she will take 15 minutes of questions from the attendees. But here's what I've got for you to chew over until then...
-Erick Erickson's opinion regarding the Tea Party Convention and Governor Palin changes slightly.
-Rand Paul says that he sees Palin as a "conservative force to help define his race against Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson." Dr. Paul currently leads the likely Democrat Party nominee for the open Senate seat in Kentucky by a wider margin than Trey Greyson.
-Obama voter Ann Althouse notes that the NY Times article about Palin "quietly assembling the infrastructure of an expanding political operation" presents an "extreme contrast to the way Palin was mocked when she resigned as Governor of Alaska." The NY Times also changed its headline for the article.
-David Paul Kuhn from Real Clear Politics writes that the Tea Party is "grassroots activism that has now combined the second biggest political rock star with the hottest movement in American politics" and that it "might only be getting started."
No snow to be found here in the Pacific Northwest. What else is going on tonight?
Update: CNN will also now carry Palin's keynote address live. (h/t Techno)
Update #2: Our Illinois readers will be interested to learn that Adam Andrzejewski was "[s]potted at the convention."

2nd biggest rock start? Who's the biggest? O?! His backup band's even jumping ship. They're closing Obama stores/shrines in <span>DC</span> for God's sake! There's only one rock star that I know of and she doesn't need a light show or Greek columns.
Good Morning!
"I <span>consider some of the political challenges that I go through, or some of the stuff that's in the media, or just some of the shots that we take, I think everybody's facing challenges. Some of my challenges just may be on the front page of the paper that day."</span>
<span></span>
<span>"</span><span>In fact, a lot of people say, why are you still standing? How are you still standing? Why are you coming back for more?" </span>
<span></span>
<p><span>"And then I get the opportunity to say, you know what? God strengthens me through the challenges. He -- and he also allows me to stay very, very grounded because of my family and my kids, and my kids reminding me of what's important every day." quote Sarah Palin interview Billy Graham - 11-22-09 </span>

I just finished listening to the Salinas speech. It was quite good--a lot of the same principles of limited government, strong national defense, and federalism that are at the core of every political speech she gives.
One concern I've heard expressed by some of those who really like Sarah but are uncertain about her presidency is that she isn't detailed in her speech and doesn't seemed informed enough. Honestly, while it doesn't affect my opinion of her abilities, I too have wished that she spoke more specifically and with fewer platitudes. Mind you, I don't mean that in a "Sarah should" attitude, but just something I personally think would serve her well, in my complete inexpert opinion.
Listening to the Salina speech, she was more specific. She spoke at length about the death tax and made it hit home to Kansans, who may be small business owners and farm families. Some try to make it seem like the death tax is something that will only affect the very rich who inherit things from wealthy parents, but it also affects families who own small businesses or family farms that may have considerable capital and assets. She addressed that issue very well.
She also spoke about national security in reasonable detail--touching specifically on our relationships with several countries including Russia, China, and Israel.
Overall, it was very good.

</p><p><span><span><span>To pick up on earlier comments in the open thread below on Dan Riehl and Ron Christie; its one thing if you think Sarah Palin should or should not be the nominee in 2012.<span> </span>Reasonable people can disagree as respectable arguments can be made for and against.<span> </span>Presently, my concern is not so much 2012, but the midterm election this November. <span> </span>And it should be the overriding concern of these two men and the entire GOP as well, and not whether or not they think Sarah Palin is fit to run in 2012 - although I personally believe </span><span>Sarah Palin is </span><span><span>by far</span></span><span> </span><span>our best choice in 2012. <span> </span></span></span></span>
</p><p><span><span><span>We are on the precipice to make great gains this November that if successful, will derail Obama and his statist’s dreams of irreversibly changing </span><span>America</span><span> for the worse. However, </span>some of these so called GOP “experts”, pundits and bloggers like <span>Ron Christie and</span> Dan Riehl are IMO threatening to alienate many Sarah Palin grassroots conservatives by their ill-timed and irresponsible petty sniping on irrelevant matters that have no bearing whatsoever on the upcoming November election.<span> </span>Their constant haranguing on almost ever word uttered by Sarah and every little move she makes is becoming tiresome and is quite frankly demoralizing to the point that I’m afraid if it doesn’t stop, and soon, it just might threaten to cause many grassroots conservatives to stay home in November, or even worse, cause many people to go third party.<span> </span>And that would be disastrousness for our country at a critical time that we as conservatives can no longer afford to be stuck on stupid.</span></span>
</p><p><span><span>And for this squish Ron Christie not to commit to vote for Sarah Palin if she were the nominee in 2012 is quite frankly insane.<span> </span>Is Ron Christie actually suggesting that he would rather have another four miserable years of Obama and his failed statists agenda, as opposed to voting for a truly principled conservative who believes in reducing the size and scope of government, and that would be strong on national defense, and that believes in capitalism and expanding free markets and energy independence, and who is a proven and successful executive that served as a mayor and governor of the largest state?<span> </span></span></span>
</p><p><span>Get real dude!</span>

Whit...I feel the same way...but then I have to harken back to the "normal folks"
We here...follow her like a hawk. Most here have her speeches memorized...sick I know. But we have to always remember...that most of the USA has not heard these speeches. I think she her message is fine. When and if she runs...I think it will be the time for more specifics...but again..many are new to the game..and I think that is who she is trying to reach! We here have been playing the game for a long long time!

Got it! Let me know how he does!
Good points, Cruela. Thanks!
I agree Cruela. For now, specifics are for things like Chris Wallace tomorrow and her Facebook missiles. She wants to frame the major issues.
I like the way she personalized it for Salinas by singling out that high school class she heard on PBS and that Sydney kid in particular "I'm going to pull a Sydney and speak honestly" or words to that effect. That's effective!
Just heard Angela's speech that terri posted. No specifics either. Just broad themes and she rocked!
Regarding Obama's Rasmussen RDTP of 44/55 today, yes it is a time to rejoice again, but also let this be a warning to everybody on our side that we cannot afford to screw up like the GOP did 8 days ago by inviting Obama to their retreat so he could use his charm to elevate his popularity at the expense of our GOP House leaders and members.
With this in mind here are 10 ideas or attitudes imho that if we all dedicate ourselves to going forward toward the 2010 midterms, there is no way we will not take back a house of Congress:
1) No let-up on our attacks against Obama and his radical agenda (Obamacare, cap and trade, legalizing illegal immigrants) whatever happens; no mercy for the Messiah; take no prisoners as we articulate a conservative message
2) hammering away at fiscal irresponsibility and the mounting debt
3) questioning Obama's belief in reading terrorists their rights on the battlefield and his attitude towards terrorism
4) adopting and maintaining the attitude of either we kill off the Far Left politically or it will eventually kill us off
5) maximizing our use of the Net and blogosphere and other modern technologies of the 21st c
6) GOP pundits all unified in their attacks on Obama while on the air
7) making it a national campaign like 1994
8) stay away from birtherism
9) match the Dems in fundraising
10) emphasize individual autonomy, liberty and freedom to pursue happiness
I agree that Allah can be quite a D-bag sometimes but I have a feeling it's done mostly to drive traffic. In the end, I think she will end up winning his grudging support.
By the way, I was over at HA looking through last nights QOD's and see that Lisa Graas has posted about how Sarah is "toast in Kentucky now".
How big of a platform does this women have? She is starting to remind me of the Falafel Lady.
Didn't take long for Obama to put himself back on the mat, did it? When do the RINO's give him another standing 8 count?
Lipstick,
Since I have 3 boys, they all went thru scouting. Only one made Eagle though.

If she's toast in Kentucky, then why is the candidate she endorsed beating the other R candidates and the likely D candidates in every poll I've seen?
As to point 8, the TP Movement has to come down hard and fast on any who beat that drum. That can maginalize it, and anyone involved in the movement, fast. TheDemSM is frothing at the mouth for something they can hang the whacko label on.
<span>By the way, I was over at HA looking through last nights QOD's and see that Lisa Graas has posted about how Sarah is "toast in Kentucky now". </span>
She's toast in Kentucky? Then why is her candidate leading in every poll I've seen?
I love you Lisa, but I'm afraid you've lost your mind.
Interesting, Hillbuzz is predicting that Sarah will announce her candidacy one year from today:
http://hillbuzz.org/2010/02/06/one-year-from-today-sarah-palin-will-officially-declare-her-candidacy-for-president/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Hmm....I know nothing of political strategy, but February seems a little early. However, Reagan's 100th birthday and a year after what will be a barnburner of a speech would make some sense.
My prediction, if she runs, that she'll announce on July 3, 2011, but that could be "too late". Who knows, and who cares? I think we'll all be excited if she announces and supportive if she doesn't.
I thought she gave plenty of specifics. I think tonight's speech will have a different tone. I hope it will be an inspiring speech very similiar to the RNC speech.
Perhaps this comes under #1, but we really have to stress that Obama's economic policies are what's choking the economy right now.
No more blaming Bush!
Good luck Lipstick on your boy becoming an Eagle Scout. I'm a pround Eagle Scout mother. My son worked the the program from tiger cubs in 1st grade to achieving the highest rank at the age of 10 1/2. That's right ten and a half. He stayed in the program until he 18. It really takes a parental commitment, but it was well worth the effort and the experiences of a life time. If you need any tips--just ask.

Tommy, Thanks
I believe David Kuhn with real clear politics except for one thing... It's not combining the second biggest political rock star, it's <span>The Biggest Political rock star </span>that is going to be combined with the hottest movement[TPM] in American politics! Anybody for Tea with Sarah tonight?
Tonight should go a long way if not actually do it.. IMHO, the cement will be poured tonight and be concrete solid tomorrow---that the two are now one and the OBC club, as Sarah referred to in Going Rogue, is just going to have to get used to It, as happened in Alaska!
This is a pathway Sarah has literally run on her entire political career, she's experienced the terrain, the ups and downs and pit-falls along the way... It's nothing new, just an additional 49 states added to her resume... that's 56 if your doing the addition Mr. President!
Im excited I'am!... wish it to be as fulfilling and inspirational for Sarah as it surely will be for those in attendance and us tens of millions barbarians watching on TV!
May God Bless!
OT
<span>Another speech where Obama referred to Navy Corpseman.
The speech was given Oct 26, 2009 to the graduates of the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville Flordia.
The disturbing thing is that none of his speechwriters, military advisors or other handlers felt empowered enough to correct his mispronunciation afterwards. It isn't a case of a one time opps where he had a bad day. He continues to mispronounce this in other speeches as well. </span>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxORB49KtsE
I hope her speech is different from the one last night. Not that last night's wasn't good, but it's not good to just say the same things over and over again. Also, this will have natl tv coverage(and given the blizzard in the DC-NY region, there should be a lot of captive eyeballs tonight) so I'd suspect it will be different than the normal outing. Opportunities like this don't come around all the time.
Plus, it'll probably be geared towards the Tea Party folks and what they're doing. I know she probably already has it done and all, but I still think it would be a very nice touch to say a few words about President Reagan's birthday being today and his 100th birthday being next year. Maybe something along the lines of "what better way to honor him and more importanly his ideas than by celebrating the centennial by rededicating outselves to those truths he so bravely declared" or something like that. Also say a few words about Andrew Jackson being in Nashville, TN and all. And lastly maybe a few words about the original tea party and how it happened in Boston and it was only a few weeks ago that the nation once again stood up in Boston and made itself heard. Something like that. And close out by mentioning how the Colts are in a bit of trouble if Freeney can't go, but how Manning and Brees are two of the best and it should be a doozy watching them go back and forth.
As for the Tea Party joining forces with the 2nd biggest political rock star, when did Obama join up with them? Obama is no longer the biggest rock star, he's fallen off. He had a phenomenal debut album in 2007/2008(Cracked Rear View by Hootie) with huge #1 singles(Yes, We Can, Hope and Change, the 1st Black President), but the follow-up in 2009 was a big disappointment(Fairweather Johnson). Most of the singles released off the album tanked(Health Care Reform, Cap and Trade, Closing Gitmo, The Stimulus and 8% Unemployment, The KSM trial, Card Check, Immigration Reform, etc... none of them will come to pass)
There's more interest and excitement generated by her, it's not really close. She even has the rock star personal/family life(and am I the only one who sees a resemblance between Ricky Hollywood and John Mayer?) She had the huge debut album also, but the follow up is just as good if not better.(It's like Led Zeppelin had a huge hit with their 1st album but II was even bigger with Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Ramble On and others) To use an analogy to some of her favorite bands, she's Van Halen with DLR on the 1984 tour right now, she's AC/DC at Donnington and Angus just started "You Shook Me All Night Long".
In fact, the Back In Black lyrics fit thi situation in a way:
Cause I'm back on the track
And I'm leadin' the pack
Nobody's gonna get me on another rap
So look at me now
I'm just makin' my play
Don't try to push your luck, just get out of my way
CHORUS
Well, I'm back, Yes I'm back
Well, I'm back, Yes I'm back
Well, I'm back, back
Well I'm back in black
Yes I'm back in black
I wonder if she'll be wearing black tonight. Johnny Cash, another man with deep TN roots was the original man in black, a woman in black would be a nice tribute.
I agree BostonBruin. I actually want him to keep blaming Bush! It's not playing well anymore. Thing is, as usual, the Repubs don't know when they're being given a gift. They should pound him every time he does it--and he won't stop! (he can't).
Ironically, Mac came up with the best one liner reply I've heard--"BIOB" (Blame it on Bush). They should hammer that!
Dont CNN and MSNBC always say how irrelevant Sarah Palin is..now they are gonna cover her speech live..WOW, I wish I was that irrelevant..looks like CNN and MSDNC are looking for ratings..GO SARAH..KICK MAJOR BUTT TONIGHT!!
Obama and Hillary both announced early in 2007. I think it was February, actually. I'm pretty sure Obama announced in February.
Beehive
Love those quotes too!... and good morning also!... I like breakfast any time of day, don't matter a bit what the clock says. Keep well yourself if that's ever possible with kid around.
<p><span>Lisa Graas would by wise to get off Sarah’s case and focus instead on her candidate’s dismal polls numbers. </span></p>
Techno
Obama's bump in the polls was more likely from his SOTU speech rather than the meet up with the Pubs. The way Rasmussen polls, it takes a few days for ups and downs to show.
That and only political junkies saw much of the meet up, whereas the SOTU was on everybody's boob tube.
I thought it kind of stunk, though, that the conservatives didn't have some better come backs against Obama. They still seem to be pretty gun shy about going after him. Whereas he seems to have no problem at all calling out anybody he wants.
We know she will not include the local stuff pertaining to Salina. I think this speech will be more national and maybe international in emphasis.
Cool Terri.
My dude is working on his Eagle Scout now. I'm pretty proud of him.
Last summer he got his life guard certification through Scouts. Pretty cool
BTW, this is Scouts 100 yr anniversary so the boys will be able to get some special "vintage" patches this year.
White guilt. Think of Jindal's rebuttal speech last year to the SOTU.
Thanks for that tidbit, RD. I had forgotten about when they announced. That was before I paid attention. :)
I agree, Whit. She is definitely gaining depth and speficis on national issues, and foreign policy. I noticed a difference between the College of the Ozarks speech until now. Did you notice when she spoke of Japan? I though that was a really strong point of her speech last night, that we're not working with allies, but spending time courting our enemies. She said our relations with Japan are at a post-war low or something to that effect, and went on to praise Japan as a great democratic force in the region.
She also came out really strongly for the Iranian protesters.
She talked about how democratic nations are peaceful nations because they don't usually go to war with each other.
I think her foreign policy worldview is really taking shape with her natural instincts now buttressed by real-world events. Or at least she's expressing her view more confidently.
Honestly, the foreign policy part WAS the strongest aspect of her speech last night. The feel in the audience, as Kevin described, was very emotional and especially engaged.
As to point 3, are they inviting him or is he inviting himself? I'm not clear on that.
Good point about the snowstorm! I think the Hootie and the Blowfish analogy is fitting too. :)
Guest,
The next opportunity will probably the Southern Republican Leadership Conference. Obama flack Ambinder says the networks are looking into covering it.
Also, when she ran for governor didn't Palin get a head start campaigning because she knew she would not get the backing of the gop?
I think you are attaching too much importance to these two people. Most people have never heard of them. They want Sarah to be one of the insiders so they might get a job with her or have her help them in some way. Remember Reihl is the
one that took on the guy from IM and even got him dismissed from that school when he was spreading falsehoods about Sarah and her family. Maybe he feels
she is not grateful to him. Who knows, but I don't think they are worth worrying about.
Nice points Cruela... we do forget some time, others actually have a life!
Excellent. I love Van Halen and AC/DC.
I know one of Sarah's favorite songs is "Thunderstruck."
They even played it at her book signings ... !!!
I have no doubt she will mention Reagan tonight. Sarah has a history of giving speeches on very significant dates. Remember, the very first speech she gave was on their wedding anniversary, John McCain's birthday and it was also close to some date important with the vote for women. She has also given speeches on Alaska day and on the eve of America'sindependence.
There's a lot to hope for tonight, but more than anything I hope that Sarah fully embraces the Tea Party Movement. I really believe this is her second opportunity to show her leadership ability, since many are saying she can't lead because she resigned in AK. Mainstreaming this movement and seizing it by the horns will show that this woman can more than handle leadership responsibilities. Right now the Tea Party movement is a ship without a rudder. It needs a steady hand and only if Sarah fully embraces this movement can this movement really change the country. That means she can't have one foot in the GOP camp and the other foot in the Tea Party camp. She's going have to put both feet into the Tea Party camp in my opinion to force change in the GOP going into the midterms. So I hope to hear a lot of independent common sense principles tonight and some real definition as to what the Tea Party is all about. Tancredo and the Birthers can't speak for this movement. The media would be more than happy to tar and feather this movement with those folks. Thus it is left to Palin to be the spokesman for the movement at large. She has to be their national leader, akin to the RNC chairman. IF she does this, then she will have a beeline to those dissatisfied independent voters, the same voters who put Scott Brown over the top in Massachusetts. These voters are all across the country desiring real change and a return to constitutional government, i.e. rule by the people not the elites! These people want to be apart of a cause that will change government back to these principles not a part of a fringe movement of nativist and conspiracist. Palin can mainstream this movement because her star power can overwhelm these increasingly shrill and extreme voices that the media will broadcast as the voice of the movement at large. Here's hoping Sarah takes full command tonight.
CNN would have been dumb not to carry Palin's speech live. So, CNN, FOX, MSNBC, CSPAN, all carrying it live. I wonder how many millions of viewers that will be altogether. FOX might repeat it a couple of times tomorrow, and maybe even next weekend if it gets really good ratings. Gov. Palin's RNC speech had about 35 million viewers, and her debate with Biden about 73 million. Would be nice to get that level of exposure, who knows, she just might.
Edwards announced in late December of 2006
Obama in late January of 2007
Clinton in early February of 2007
The GOP leadership invited him to the GOP retreat 8 days ago. Axelrod spoke of the get-together in glowing terms. I've said this before: "There is a sucker born every minute." Obama took the platform and delivered his charismatic charm to the nation, and of course that was spun big time by the MSM to make the Messiah to look like a world class statesman and the GOP like submissive schoolboys . By the way did you hear it was only at the last moment that the WH phoned the GOP leadership to get it to agree to allow the cameras to stay beyond Obama's speech and include the Q & A session?
MarkRNY, you know how I feel about Obama. When did I ever say he was stupid? Never! You know what PT Barnum said: "Never give a sucker an even break." The GOP were suckers. Now Obama wanted to keep it going with his invitations to the GOP to come over to the WH for the Super Bowl. Fortunately only Republican is going.
Mike Allen of Politico: "Obama hit a grand slam."
Ellen,
I actually think she announced very late in the process. October of 2005 is what I've heard.
I think she will. She is, indeed, a poltical rockstar.
Now, where's the electric guitar? ;)
Juju...right on!
It's called Fear leadership! but actually the more he talks the better, the gaffs are nice but what turns my me off issssss.... him!
^^^That's cool. My middle son went to the Natoinal Jamboree a few years ago....and LOVED IT. He picked up sooo many patches/pins...incredible.
RD... just got around to reading your blogg of last night... tremendous! Great going!
Steven,
I've been blowing my horn about this since the "Tea Party" first started.
The Tea Party movement and Sarah is a match made in heaven......she couldn't deny this if she wanted to.
As Techno said...it's all about timing baby.......NOW'S the time.
Here is an article from "thehill", about Sen. McConnell from Kentucky.
Palin and McConnell wage proxy battle in Kentucky Republican Senate primary
http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/80011-palin-and-mcconnell-wage-proxy-battle-in-kentucky
NAH......Sarah plays the flute.....ever heard of Jethro Tull????
I have to agree with a comment that Bill O'Reilly made in his interview with Gov. Palin a few weeks ago when he said he "could see it her eyes" that she wanted to take charge of the Tea Party movement.
It would be powerful to announce it on the steps of the Reagan Library on his 100th birthday. Reagan would approve.
Whit,
Did you notice the update on this thread?....Adam A has been spoted at the Convention.
Even though he lost the primary...I think only good things are in store for him. 8^))
Hehe...I just realized that if you watch Sarah's speech on Fox, it's right after Huckabee.
Poor guy.
Lisa's candidate isn't doing to well, but what's really going on here is a proxy fight with Mitch McConnell. I suspect that McConnell is a Mittems Man, and Palin knows it.
No, Clinton announced on January 20, 2007. I remember that day quite well. :)
I saw that, Terri. I agree that there are good things ahead for him. I am thrilled though that if all holds, Bill Brady is the nominee. If it couldn't be Adam, I'm glad it's Bill. Especially if this crazy Dem Lt. Governor candidate stays in, we look like we have a shot of an actual conservative in the Governor's office.
Adam's still very young. I can see him mounting a run in 4 years if the Quinn wins, or heck, wouldn't it be great if he took on Durbin in 2014? :)
And Obama was in February, I recall. Tried to coincide with Lincoln's birthday or something like that.
Just so she beats the hell out of the Katie Couric Pre-Game Super Bowl interview with Oblamo.
Huh...Trouble in Paradise?....
http://iowntheworld.com/blog/?p=16549
I really didn't know who was inviting who! I've been swamped with work. I thought he might have invited himself, which would be just like him. In that case it would have been hard to say no.
If the GOP invited him, they're idiots, which is no revelation. Now they've started the ball rolling. Brilliant. They're always on defense and think they have to prove that they're good guys. I'm beginning to think that they're the only ones who believe the MSM's spin nowadays.
You're right. They've got to end this quick.
Tommy, maybe I am thinking of a different election she ran in? I remember something about it in Going Rogue.
^^^Poor Huck?...How about poor Sarah.
What a backup band. ewwwwww
Having a "band" called the "little rockers" on before you......no thanks, that's as bad as having a polka band or as Simon Cowell likes to call people..."lounge singers".
I'm a midday breakfast gal myself. Thanks Bestbud you're the best.
I think Sarah announced on Alaska Day (October 18) 2005.
It was great--professional! You'd make a great spy. Next assignment--the ACORN Convention.
Here's a tweet from Sarah Palin Radio at the convention

^^^The Tebow ads (4 of them) are to be televised pre game and during the game. Wonder if they'll have one during Obama's interview....awkward.
^^^Yep, that would be very very great. :))
Crue,
Come on...maybe she has a cold sore. ewwwww
"the second biggest political rock star"?
Harumph! Indeed! We'll see about that, young whippersnapper.
Fox just showed a clip of Sarah fos Wallace's show tomorrow. Talked about the terrorists...she is TICKED!!! Also, right before that Carl Cameron stated that Wallace asked about her political future and said, "well, suffice it to say, the door is WIDE open!!"
Who'd you rather have-Reihl or Rush? Reihl marginalized himself further by whining on MSNBC--the Mecca for disgruntled Repubs (Noonan, Scarborough, etc.). I hope he wizes up.
Actually it should be NO LATER THAN April. January is almost ideal to start raising money.
I just saw a preview of Sarah's interview with Chris Wallace....She was talking about O and the administration's handling of terrorist! It looks like its gonna be a great interview!
FOX just played a preview of Palin and Wallace...Palin goes after Obama in terrorist treatment....she punched him in the gut!
i do think we get to0 caught up in what bloggers- who most normal people have never heard of- say. however, if in 2012 i think palin is pushed by the republican establishment and not by her own decision or the decision of the primary voters, then I will sit out the general election.
ewww....that's not what I wanted to look at....
LOL!
What?....she said the door was wide open?.....Wow...
lets quit beating around the bush. Sarah is the queen of the tea parties. The msm is crawling all over nashville and they all agree that attendees almost unanimously would love Sarah to be their leader.
Everything Sarah has touched politically has improved for the better. The Tea party movement will improve, just because Sarah is associated with it.
Tonite should be historic. the ol' heart is pounding.
Lol--Maybe they're serving moose chilli.
Hope your kid's feeling better Beehive. Keep spraying him with Lysol!
bury me in a Sarahcuda T shirt and obama '08 depends.
No, not sure what Sarah said but Carl said people will be very interested to hear what she had to say about 2012 and then Carl finished his segment with "well, suffice it to say, the door is WIDE open."
BTW Re.Dem. ...Excellent Blog.
sarah 2012
Gee,
What's Obama going to be doing tonite?.....hosting not one but two fundraisers.
The first one is for the DNC...the second one is at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington.
Check out the price tag.
....."The second fundraiser -- at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington – has a steeper price tag: $30,400 for a couple. Both Mr. Obama and Kaine will speak at the evening event, where 140 people are expected."
$349...for lobster/steak and Sarah Palin, all of a sudden doesn't look so bad.
BTW.....Is it still snowing in Washington??
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2010/02/04/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry6174806.shtml
Wow! Gov. Palin continues to rock the GOP boat!! One of the interesting things is that Rand Paul supports Sen. DeMint's push to add a balanced budget amendment to the constitution and McConnell is currently not supportive (http://senateconservatives.com/v1/index.php?p=post&id=71).
If Gov. Palin has a litmus test as to who she will support, I'd think a balanced budget amendment would be on her list.
Sarah's WIDE open door policy! She's doing hamstring stretches already. Thanks FLREPUB.
Is it first come first served for a seat?
Still wow....I am getting very excited for tonight and for the interview tomorrow.....this is a good Cuda weekend!!
LOL!! Did you see O's speech about this lady? He didn't even know her name!! He acted all concerned but NEVER mentioned her by name--kept saying, "she" and "this lady" and "her family" She's just a "corpse-woman" to him!!!
Major power outages in DC......Oblamo could miss Sarah tonight.....I guess MSNBC will send him a tape.
Aqualung... A great sound.
sarah 2012
terri
I'm not sure....I'm sure people are lining up 2 1/2 hours early so they can get their lobster before they run out.....hahaha
techno
Why is Thune moving up so much today?
I am really looking forward to this speech. My only "concern" is the crowd size. 1,100 or so is nice, but for maximum benefit, it would have been great if they could have moved it to a larger facility to hold a few thousand more. I just hope those thousand are very noisy with their applause and hollering.
Panchita,
My heart is punding is too and skipping beats. I think i'm having arrythmias! (just joshing).
Can I tell you all I told you so. s/
I've been saying that Sarah should embrace this Tea Party movement since it's inception. They are like 2 peas in a pod.....with only good things to come for each side.
Look at the media attention....UNREAL AND WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK?!?!!? It's on the verge of unbelievable.
Can we call out the idiots now that thought "quitting" was a terrible idea??????
Can we start calling her Madam President yet?.....My bad, I'll wait till AFTER the speech. 8^))

Agreed. Have a feeling that <span>no one's</span> going to push The Cuda into anything anymore in this life.
CNN has just said Sarah's speech may start early. So be ready for it.
Trial balloon. Plus to push PPP to include him as the 4th person when they do their Presidential poll next week.
where two or three are gathered:)
I think the 'Cuda enjoys her frontrunner status as determined by the Newsmax/Zogby and Daily Kos/Research 2000 polls. It appears she is not interested in relinquishing the lead anytime soon.
Have ya'll seen the stage set-up at the TPC......columns lit red and blue.......intentional?.......wonder if they are made of styrofoam........I wonder if Piper will be on stage?
I hope it doesn't....many are probably just going to tune in at 9
Why does Cal Thomas have such a bug up his butt about Sarah? He was on Fox a moment ago sniping at her and the TP Convention. Honestly, I'd like to yank that ridiculous toupee of his down over his eyes and slap some sense into the boy.
terri, I have heard of him...ummmm...;)
I play flute and piccolo.
Beehive likes "Mrs." President.
I like that the TPers are making it clear that this is NOT a 3rd party movement! Sooner or later even O'Reilly will catch on.
astute
Hey HRH if you are out there...I didn't know that Peter Schiff acted like that to you guys in Connecticut...man I'm disappointed, but I still stand by my feelings that both political parties are corrupt beyond repair.
And I still think that we as a country need to drill in the Bakken oil fields In South & North Dakota, drill in ANWR in Alaska, and especially audit or end the federal reserve.
I can't wait to see the ratings for this speech in the next couple of days...I think it's going to get a unbelievable number.
Thank you c4p for allowing all of us to post here, I just wanted to get that in.
<p><span>“I think if Sarah has a passion, it’s that she really believes that there is a silent majority out there that she wants the folks in Washington to know about,” said Kristan Cole, a friend in Wasilla.
</span><span>http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/06/us/politics/06palin.htm</span></p>
LOL!!
They said the same thing about Reagan. His strength was enunciating simple, American principles in plain English. That is Sarah's strength. We're used to "Policy speak" from candidates, but the policy wonks usually don't win and those who do (Bill Clinton) fail. I don't want any more policy-speak. Policy = statism. I want our government to stick to the basics and leave the details to us.
and energy independence is really important to her
I think Sarah is really mad about the email dog and pony show. I wish in the Wallace interview she would
tell the scumbags off.
You guys,
This is getting crazy! This little speech, at a little convention, that everyone was "dropping out of", that is insignificant with an insignificant keynote speaker, wellllll, has just taken on a life of it's own.
This has become just as big as the RNC speech....already has as much media there, and will probably have the same amt of viewers.
It's being talked about all over the radio and all over the tv. My gosh, My gosh.
One word,,,,,UNBELIEVABLE.
"America is Ailin, we need Palin". Quote from a minister at Sarah's Salina speech. I think I like it.
Do you hate me Mark? ;-)
Didn't someone say that Steve Forbes was somehow involved with Rand Paul?
I think Sarah's taking over the GOP with libertarian-minded fiscal HAWKS.
Repubs have been acting like Dems for TOO long. Time to purge.
Oh.
My.
Gosh.
I'm all a-flutter. This will be the best yet. Evah.
It will be ah-mazing.
It will be the best. Evah.
I am sooooooooooooooooo excited.
Are you?
(Do I need to ask that question?)

Big crowd already for Palin
<span></span>
James refer to my post on page 2 of this thread, this is exactly what I'm talking about. Guys like Cal Thomas that are supposed to be on our side but are instead diminshing the role of Sarah and the Tea Party are actually hurting the cause of conservatism.
In honor of Ronald Reagan's birthday and apropos of Sarah Palin speaking to the Tea Party convention tonight, a quote cited often by RR to warn America of what could happen if it did not remain vigilant:
"The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."
Norman Thomas, 6-time presidential candidate of the Socialist Party of America (1928-1948)
NB: I think the man knew what he was talking about.
OK, forgive me because I've only been really paying attention to politics for 1 and 1/2 years, but have there been other political speeches by a non-elected person that have gotten this kind of coverage?
FLR ... Well said. I really can't even believe he said that. He was bragging about a dead woman's choice of burial clothes. It's all about him. He is CLUELESS.
Pff no kidding! Notice how Palin when she used an example of local students giving analysis of the SOTUS she knew the name of one of the girls. Sydney. If I was Sydney I'd be elated that I got mentioned by a nat'l politician like Palin.
This is classic media hypocrisy. They made a big deal out of nothing with the Tea Party and ignore these kind of "fat cat" fundraisers that are the NORM in DC.
Reagan!
not sure what happened to my last comment. It got lost.
pjtv has a live feed. the stage has red and blue columns... and you can see people arriving in the banquet room..
If the GOP is smart they'll shut those guys up. All they can do is drive conservatives away from the GOP and toward a 3rd party. They will welcome the tea partiers, or they will continue to lose. The ball is in their court
But Peter Schiff is running as a Repub. You really think he can go in and single handedly make it less corrupt? With his standoffish personality? He is a fallen human being. As are we all.
That is why both parties are corrupt. And why corruption will always rear its ugly head. Yes, it can be rooted out. For a time. But it will always crop back up. Which is why we must remain vigilant!
Back to Schiff: His attitude is part of the problem. He doesn't appear interested in going to DC to represent us, but to represent his pet issues. Check out http://www.vincentforras.com/. And he really wants to represent us.
Someone said Sarah's speech may be early....well my tv's been off all day....think I will turn it to FOX now so that I dare not miss it....I can just mute Huckabee until Sarah comes on stage.
I can't think of anyone other than sitting Presidents, and certain candidates for President in the thick of a campaign (including SP in 08), who can generate this kind of buzz for a stump speech. And, on the right side of the political spectrum, there is only one other person in my 56 years who had *it* like Sarah does--RWR. I think it also true that we won't see her likes again anytime soon.
Saw 'em twice.
To keep me busy while I wait impatiently for this to start.
I dug up my fav videos to keep me pumped...as if I need it. lol
There's this one.....cuz "this song is for us"......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTnnKuNXUNE
And this one, cuz even after watching it a hundred times, it still brings tears to my eyes.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-G2n91wKtY
And this one, as a sort of thank-you to the LSM in an absurd kind of way.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7lTQdmNp20
And this one...to remind me how far Sarah has come and to vow NEVER again to see that look on her face that she had at McCain's concession speech....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVJlZ2qqhqQ&feature=related
And finally this one....because it reminds me of my sons AND that I can't wait to proudly call her CIC.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTs6a0ORdQU
Okay...now that I'm all pumped.....MAN, I need a Sarah for President rally...QUICK!!!!
Hey guys anything big happening tonight? ;)
Jethro Tull was an English agronomist/inventor. The bandleader flautist is Ian Anderson.
...and all of us.
dead woman's poor choice of burial clothes.
By the way, here is some interesting links to look at, regarding drilling for oil....I hope section 9, Brianus, HRH, or anybody here can take a look at these stories & comment.

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=61488
I hope these links work, I am an Internet novice.
If the news from Russia story link doesn't work, use on the Startpage, or whichever engine you use the words, Palin, Alaska, and Pravda. It should get to a story buried in Pravda that was a positive story on Palin about getting the oil out of Alaska...not surprised that this story was buried by the controlled MSM.
Good Afternoon, Everybody!!
Happy Ninety-Ninth Birthday, President Reagan!!!
Guys, doesn't this feel a lot like 3 September and 2 October, 2008, as we waited in eager, nervous, hopeful anticipation for, first the RNC speech, then the VP debate??
We KNEW she would do superbly, but there were still little gremlins crawling around in our stomachs and in our psyches.
I think that we all feel so close to Sarah that it is almost as if we are on the lofty podium and in the grim arena of combat with her.
I never cease to wonder and marvel and rejoice at this Lady's courage--hell, my stomach is not steady right now...and I am not within hundreds and hundreds of miles of Nashville. When you think of the burden she bears: she must know that she bears and shoulders and carries the hopes, the expectations, the dreams of tens of millions of her fellow citizens before every major speech or appearance...
...and yet, she goes out there, time after time, and, with the beautiful aplomb of her fearless spirit and with joy radiating from her being, she rips grand-slam home run after grand-slam home run.
I know she will be great, but I am going to continue to pray hard for her right up to the moment the speech begins.
God bless you all, and I'll talk to you after the speech!
Sarah Domination 2010; SARAH 2012!!!
Brianus
To hell with him. I always preferred Cal Worthington and his dog, Spot!
It's repeated at 6:00 p.m. EST. I'm at church, too, and working in the afternoon. But I'll catch and dvd the 6:00 p.m. show!

I hope these links work....I would love for section 9, HRH, Brianus, or anybody at C4P to comment & give their opinions on these stories.
I can't wait to see the ratings for the speech tonight In a couple of days...I think the number will be mindboggling!!!!!!
Thank you Terri ... I was thinking of playing some of my favorite videos today. These people who create them are so talented. I wish I knew how to do it! I've been thinking of a video with Jive Talking by the Bee Gees (you telling me lies ... Obama, Jive Talking, you wear a disquise)
Cruela
Issues with Sarah are black or white, no grey areas. Not very complicated. Keep It Simple Stupid....KISS That is why people can relate to her. We are tried of politicians talking over our heads trying to make us think they are smarter than we are. We understand payoffs and bribes. Scratch my back, and i will scratch yours. Enough is Enough
All ya need's a 12 yr. old!
Damn nice to see ya'!
Rand Paul has some strange views. Palin I hope has learned from the Hoffman race that she can't hypothetically "air raid" an endorsement. You have to be on the ground as well. Will she be willing to go to Kentucky and campaign with Rand Paul? Its a risk but you have to go further than an endorsement to secure victory as the Hoffman race showed.
$30,400/couple? You couldn't even pay me that much to go listen to an empty suit and an empty head!
