Ralph Reed: The Palinator

Ralph Reed, in a piece at the National Review, had some interesting things to say about Governor Palin's big weekend:

Sarah Palin dominated the news this weekend with a flurry of appearances, from her keynote speech to the Tea Party national convention in Nashville, campaigning for Gov. Rick Perry in Texas, and an appearance on Fox News Sunday, her first Sunday morning interview. With Obama's job approval in the mid-to-upper 40s and Democrats nervous about the mid-terms, the political cognoscenti want to know: Will Palin run in 2012?

My sense is that Palin has not made a decision about running for president, but as she told Chris Wallace on Fox she has not foreclosed that option. In the meantime, she is raising funds for GOP candidates (many of them in primaries), giving speeches, maintaining ongoing exposure as a Fox News contributor, and making contributions through her political action committee. All these activities will redound to the benefit of conservatives in the short term, regardless of her long-term plans.

Palin has sharpened both her message and performance on the stump. Her Tea Party remarks provide a blueprint of sorts for conservative candidates in 2010. First, she led with Obama's lack of leadership in the war on terrorism, including Mirandizing the Christmas Day bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab after 50 minutes and treating terrorism as primarily a law-enforcement matter. "To win that war we need a commander-in-chief, not a professor of law standing at a lectern," she said to a loud ovation. This is reminiscent of Scott Brown's line during his victory speech after winning the U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts: We want our taxes spent buying weapons to fight terrorists, not paying for lawyers to defend them. Obama claims that he is handling high-value detainees identically as his predecessor did. If that is the case, why does he continue to claim that the Bush administration undermined the war on terror by violating our own values? He can't have it both ways, and this is a huge liability for Obama and the Democrats.

Second, during the Q and A following her speech, when asked what were the first things Republicans should do if they regain Congress, Palin emphasized fiscal responsibility and time-honored values. "We've got to rein in the spending, obviously, and not raise it [with] extremely high budgets and then say, OK, we are going to freeze a couple of programs," she said. Then, talking about America's religious heritage, she said America needs to "go back to some of our roots as a God-fearing nation" and elect leaders unafraid "to proclaim their reliance on our Creator."

Democratic consultant Bob Shrum, appearing on MSNBC, denounced all this as essentially hate speech. He attacked Palin for being "a merchant of hate with an oh-gosh smile." (Translation: It's working!)

GREAT article!
Thank God for Sarah, she is unafraid to speak for God-fearing Americans; there are more of us then there are of them, she said, America needs to "go back to some of our roots as a God-fearing nation" and elect leaders unafraid "to proclaim their reliance on our Creator."
She continues to walk in godly wisdom in proclaiming what Americans know in there heart to be true; We are a Christian nation.
So let's continue to stand with Sarah and be unafraid to speak the Truth, for greater is He that is in me then he that is in the world.
"You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."

Can anybody name me a single campaign that Bob Shrum led to victory?  Another thing he said was that Ronald Reagan always provided an alternative to what the Dims offfered.  Smaller government, energy independence, lower taxes, strong national defense, and fiscal responsibility aren't alternatives?

Actually I found a copy of Reagan's CPAC speech in 1978 and there was very little if any alternative view.  I use this speech because that would have been close to the same time as Sarah's Tea Party Speech.  In fact what Reagan mainly did was slam Carter.

I suspect that Sarah's next FB post will be on the following subject, if she has the time.

That's interesting.

Sadly that doesn't surprise me.

I hope Sarah adds this to her speeches and hammers this point to the American people, that Nobama has no plans on energy independence for the USA!

Thanks Doug, and thanks Ralph Reed... You both Rock!

Caught Andrea Mitchell last night and had to laugh and cry at the same time... Laughing because Ms Andrea totally lost it in her school girl attempt at mocking Sarah and in the process reinforced Sarah's labeling her and all her cohorts as Lame Stream Media. As for crying, on second thought!... Im still laughing and gloating, used to be ashamed and apprehensive at loosing what used to be main media source independence in America, but no more!

FOX'y Sarah once again, as she did in the VP speech of the century, and now with the palm of her hand held out... said! we barbarians, we win-you lose!

Also caught Bob Beckel on Hannity... Im waiting for Shaun to have Sarah sitting right next to him on the great american panel... his ratings would blow the roof off... it would be like the VP debate where Biden met Sarah... his death panel of one!

Bottom line... happy beyond words for Sarah, she's providing Americans of all persuasions a reality check!... a "<span>Bridge to Reality<span>" as our beloved <span>Brianus.B</span> so eloquently  coined it yesterday... Sarah provided the plan for the bridge through faithfulness to her God and country, we her loyal followers, are supporting and encouraging her as we together are now seeing it actually built... one Sarah event and interview and speech and her magic personality of poking fun and humor to all who care to play the game.</span></span>

Great article. Ralph Reed gets it. The idea of hate speech is the liberals/progressives still trying to label anything conservative as either evil or stupid. How dare Sarah Palin talk about fiscal responsibility how hateful. The game has changed though and people aren't just going to buy into those labels anymore. People who really look at the issues with a dose of common sense are going to find they agree with Sarah Palin alot more than they agree with liberals/progressives.
