Shock! Horror!..... A Palin-Friendly Article in the UK....

Good stuff from Melanie Phillips at the UK Spectator and one of the few pundits over here who does not regurgitate the CNN/MSNBC “lines for the week” or regard Frum/Brooks/Sullivan as the Oracles of the American Conservative Delphi.

First she oh so brilliantly satirises the officially endorsed anti-Palin incantation inscribed on each broomstick inserted as a replacement backbone up the rectum of almost every media pundit and/or political hack on either side of the pond.

As all sentient people on the planet are now aware, Sarah Palin is a figure of extreme derision. She has been mocked for her ignorance of the world beyond Wasilla, Alaska, her total absence of education let alone sophistication, her wince-worthy wordplay, her homespun hicksville homiletics, her God-bothering gabbiness, her chavvy dysfunctional family (is she the grandmother of her son?? is she the mother of her grandson???), her hair, her glasses, her hockeyness, her beyond caricaturableness...has there ever been such a total idiot and embarrassment in political life?

Think you’re reading 80% of the comments on any Palin article posted at The Guardian/WaPo/ToL/Time/Newsweek? Don’t bother to put yourself at the top of the class for getting that right – far from possessing the forensic skills of Sherlock Holmes you need only be one notch above Inspector Clouseau to work that out....in fact I would suggest that Phillips could lease that paragraph out to the International Union of Palinophobic Trolls and live like a billionaire on the incoming rents for the rest of her life.

Then, having got everyone at the North London dinner party sagely nodding heads and about to launch forth their own well polished nugget of Palin Airheadedness to screeches of laughter from the assembled hoi oligoi, Phillips then confronts them with her version of the First Law of Palin Metaphysics.....
How is it then that such an all-time airhead who, we were reliably informed, was ‘toast’ when she bowed out of Alaskan politics, has now put herself at the head of the most significant grassroots movement in America, the ‘Tea-Party’ populist revolt?

Read the rest here. I tell you, reading a Palin friendly article in the London prints is a secret vice almost as pleasurable as dunking a digestive biscuit in your mid morning cup of tea (but please, not a word to the Lovely Mrs P about the latter.....)

Good article.  Thanks for sharing.

Melanie Phillips is a conservative, one of the few still left in Britain. She has been also very outspoken on the rise of the Islamic presence in GB.

At least some people are starting to wake up.

Even Marc Assbinder at The Atlantic is starting to TRY and figure it out.

Getting Sarah Palin's Paradigm

Yep. She's also been one of very few journalists who saw through the Obama's less than hopey changey agenda long before most people did.

Don't be fooled. Ambinder is merely channeling the latest High Wisdom from Plouffe and Axelrod. This is the new "sophisticated meme" from the White House, as they are figuring that mysoginy backfired. Ambinder's article is actually a Look Ahead to the oncoming White House attack. At first, even I thought it was a newly independent piece from Ambinder, but then I remembered that his role in Washington is to peddle White House memes.

There is a reason Mickey Kaus calls Marc Ambinder "The Draedel".

Palin People, we know you lurk here, so read carefully.

Palin is the candidate of White Resentment who is become the New Nixon. She has no new ideas for a Complicated World. Thus, Republican Moderates are Safer With Obama. Better yet, why not nominate a Squidward like Romney or Pawlenty who would Lose Gracefully instead of inciting a divisive, Race-Based Campaigner like Tricky Dick in a Skirt.

Always read Ambinder CAREFULLY for White House trial balloons. Ambinder is an errand boy, nothing more, nothing less.

Ambinder's column is a more sophisticated piece which grudgingly grants her organizational skills but maintains, in so many words, that she is the Candidate of White Resentment. You can almost smell the crosses burning in his article.

Remember, when reading Ambinder's take on Palin or ANY Republican, it is always best to remember Mr. Churchill's take on the Labour press of his day: "One does not have a conversation with the Monkey when the Organ Grinder is in the Room."

Operative word is try, in Ambinder's case, it's not about race though, which where loses it, but some of the other points are on point

Aw shucks, it's just Melanie.

SusanW,  February 9, 2010 5:47 PM

Oh goodness...thank you for posting this.   The Guardian (UK) has just posted their fourth Palin article of the week and, as expected, it's a basher (man, do they hate her at the Guardian.)   After having given up on the BBC or the London Times for anything remotely objective, I just figured there was no hope for the British media.   I'll go read now and savor every bit!

section9,  February 9, 2010 5:47 PM

Oh, note to Palin people: letting Marc Ambinder on your plane is like letting David Axelrod on your plane to read your strategy notes. Never grant this sumbitch a press credential. He works for the Other Side.

They have never seen an Alinsky target, willing to serve back volleys, so they have to find the root of that appeal, and they rely on Altemeyer's and Hofstadler cliches, about rightwing authoritarianism

Great article. Shocking as it may have been. Its nice to see people understanding where we are at as a nation, what the Tea Party is really about, and what Sarah Palin is about.

Jamika,  February 9, 2010 6:08 PM

A positive article from Britain?! Maybe I shouldn't emigrate just yet - there's still hope for my country!

Yes, I'd just about given up on pretty much every British source of news - it seemed that most got their American news from the far-left in America. The Times ("of London", for my American friends :p) really lost the plot with Palin and, as a Catholic, the Times has just gone over the cliff at warp speed when it comes to "reporting" anything about the Pope.

I live in hope that MSNBC, CNN, the NY Times etc. all go bust, forcing the UK newspapers to get their American news from places likes the Fox News, Wall Street Journal and Washington Times.

Jamika,  February 9, 2010 6:11 PM

I can't stand the fact that, if I want to own a television, I have to fund the BBC. Such a policy only makes sense to a socialist!

Imagine, my American friends, that if you wanted to own a television, you had to pay an annual tax to fund MSNBC - that's what we Brits have to do with the BBC. I wish more people were outraged but our society seems kinda apathetic about everything these days...

Sec 9 has the 'binder pegged.  He is a WH mouthpiece.

Narciso-watch for the Nixon meme and the rope in to Pat Buchanan and "nativist/anti-Semitic/rage" talking points being peddled over the next month.

I know Ambinder. He's their meme peddler. The notion of Palin as the New Nixon, trafficking in all the old Class and Race Resentments of The Mighty Trickster is simply too delicious for them to resist.

Watch also an attempt to smear Fred Malek in an attempt to scare him off of support for Palin. Fred's been around the block a few times, however.

CBDenver,  February 9, 2010 6:54 PM

Well, we do have to fund NPR.  Not that anyone really watches it

section9,  February 9, 2010 6:56 PM

Good God, it's only Melanie Phillips. She's the canary in the coal mine over there, the last Jew in Britain left before the Crown is abolished and the Queen's subjects placed under Shar'ia Law.

Get your papers in order and get out while you still can.

Dear David,

Thank you!!

I especially appreciated seeing the term "hoi oligoi."  We often see "hoi polloi" transposed from Greek letters into our letters, but not often the opposing term, as in "oligarchy."  Your Professor Donald Russell, with whom I studied Greek Prose Composition when he was a visiting professor at Stanford, would have appreciated this.  Our class consisted of three students; three brave souls.  On St. George's Day some years ago Professor Russell served us tea in his office.

Anyway, God bless you my friend!!

Brianus
