Gov. Palin delivers in Tulsa

Note to future bookers who are scheduling an event featuring Sarah Palin: make sure she speaks last. For a few reasons I’ll get into momentarily, once Gov. Palin left the stage in Tulsa, about a third of the crowd left with her, even though the event was only half complete. Those who left missed some great moments, the post-Palin highlight being Gretchen Wilson singing Heart’s “Barracuda” to Palin, who apparently was just off-stage.

“I think Gretchen sings Heart better than Heart sings Heart,” one of the women I was with, a Heart fan, commented.

Before getting into the goods, some snapshot observations. First, the crowd spanned the spectrum regarding age – there were as many teens and young twenty-somethings as there were oldsters, a slew of veterans young and old, and yes, most were white. FYI – Oklahoma’s population is 83 percent white, which would explain this as well as why almost all the two dozen peaceful protesters outside the arena were also almost completely white in hue. This doesn’t matter to me, but it does to a lot of people which is why I mention it. Finally, many like to point out that Gov. Palin is much more popular with men than with women – I’d say there were more women in the crowd, and of my party of five, I was the only XY.

We each paid $114 to see Gov. Palin and Glenn Beck speak, and to watch John Rich and Gretchen Wilson perform for the opening leg of the Taking Our Country Back tour, and it was worth every penny. More than three hours in length, the event hit all the major themes naturally expected of fans of Palin and Beck, and Beck was even kind enough to bring his blackboard along. I’m not a Beck fan, but his speech was riveting, humorous, outraged, and although I take exception to his grouping Friederich Nietzsche with Karl Marx, I thought it was a sound and, at times, moving presentation.

Want to know the most curious part about Gov. Palin’s speech? Except for a couple pieces of paper, she employed no teleprompter, no notes on her hand while delivering a 45-minute speech. Not exactly an easy thing to do, even for a politician. Her speech was for the most part smooth, and it hit on most of the topics the audience expected.

The first rule of public speaking is knowing the audience, and Gov. Palin – who talked a great deal about energy, about military service, and about protecting our freedoms – knew her audience. She was applauded throughout, received a long standing ovation at the beginning and the end, and was interrupted constantly by applause. Oklahoma is a huge military state and energy is a large part of our economy – no Obama-style gaffes about the price of arugula. Surprisingly, Gov. Palin invoked Oklahoma’s state motto, Labor Conquers All Things (labor omnia vincit). I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Sarah Palin could move to Oklahoma, run for Governor and win in a landslide.

Oklahoma is Palin Country (and quite in love with Beck and country music, of course), as Palin-friendly as can be found, so while Tulsa seems like an odd place to kick off such a tour, it’s actually quite a good fit. For Palin’s part, the only real news was her revealing she’ll be posting on Facebook this week regarding how Pres. Obama is already well underway in breaking his State of the Union pledge to reconsider our nation’s policy on domestic oil exploration.

As she finished speaking, Rich came out and asked the governor to stay for a tribute of the 91 Oklahoma servicemen killed in Iraq and Afghanistan (and that it matters too much, but they were all men, most quite young), to which she of course agreed. She was joined on-stage by her daughter Piper, and the most moving (and unexpected) portion of the program began. Backed by a bagpipe rendition of “Amazing Grace” and a performance of Mariah Carey’s “Hero” the names of each Oklahoma serviceman killed in Iraq and Afghanistan was listed one-by-one. I’m not sentimental by nature, but it was stirring. From my part of the state, two soldiers came from Ardmore, one from Overbook (South Ardmore), one from Madill and one from Kingston. For the last soldier named, his family was brought on-stage and greeted by Rich and Gov. Palin.

A few friends asked me if I didn’t think that tickets were too expensive (our rear section floor seats were $100 face value, with $14 per ticket in fees and taxes added on, while the best seats in the house were $125, the bulk of the seating was well under $100). The only empty seats in the Tulsa Convention Center were the cheapest of the cheap seats. In other words, had there been more “good” seats, there would have been more people. As to whether I thought it was too expensive – nope, not a bit. I didn’t think twice about it once a friend invited me, and apparently no one else in attendance did either. Depending on how good the seats were, I’d pay up to $250 to see Gov. Palin speak, and I’m not wealthy or even upper-middle-class. I saw that Oklahoma media reported there were approximately 5,000 people – my rough estimate was 5,000-6,000. Approximately 90 percent of available seating was filled.

I like what Rich is trying to do with this tour – personally, I think it’s a wonderful idea and my friends and I had a blast. Here are a few things they’ll have to tweak to keep performers joining the event, though. Having Gov. Palin speak in the middle of the event meant that a good chunk of the crowd left as soon as her speech and the fallen soldiers tribute finished. What Rich and Wilson were left with was a stream of people (and the media) leaving halfway through. Rich and Wilson are extremely popular in Oklahoma, so for them I’d think it a bit disheartening to see so many people leaving.

Furthermore, both play country music that is driven by electric guitar, something that does not work very well in the middle of a Saturday afternoon at an event not serving beer. So, you have screaming guitars being played to a seated, measured crowd. My two-cents – very hard to mix 90 minutes of political speaking and 90 minutes of rambunctious country music. Would I attend another one with no change in the format, speakers or performers? Absolutely.

Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon. If you’re a fan of Palin or Beck or a member of the Tea Party movement in general, I couldn’t recommend a better afternoon. After all was said and done, we wound up at Dirty’s Tavern in downtown Tulsa, where Oklahoma State Senator and GOP gubernatorial candidate Randy Brogdon’s campaign was having a party. Brogdon’s campaign was the only Conservative campaign handing out information at the event, and while having never heard of him before Saturday, he came over to our table of five, answered our questions, and most likely won five more votes for his primary.

Note to Conservative politicians and hopefuls in Conservative states: when Sarah Palin comes to town, you can pick up a lot of support just by showing up and doing a bit of retail politicking.

Thanks for the good report. Long live Sarah Palin. How we love her!

Lynda, March 14, 2010 7:51 PM

Great Post, made you feel like you were there.

GAHanson, March 14, 2010 7:52 PM

It's always good to get first hand account of these events. During the campaign, when McCain and Palin were together, she would speak first, and people would be leaving during McCain's speech, so they switched the order. Interesting to hear that the 0bama-loons were able to get more than 1 or 2 protesters this time, my guess is that at least half of those protesting were paid Rent a Mob types.

dr vicki, March 14, 2010 7:52 PM

Yep. Hubby and I had a great time at the Little Rock event, and all it was was Sarah and an ameature bluegrass band.

M. Minnesota, March 14, 2010 7:52 PM

Excellent write up! I think there is a video on you tube of Wilson doing "Barracuda" but not from this event.

SarahFanUK, March 14, 2010 7:54 PM

Many thanks for this write up. No substitute for first hand accounts!

dr vicki, March 14, 2010 7:58 PM

What exactly were they protesting?

AussieforSarah, March 14, 2010 8:03 PM

But will big crowds automatically translate to votes in the future both in the primary and general elections?

EclecticAK, March 14, 2010 8:03 PM

Excellent report/post. You painted a clear picture of the experience and I am sure I'm not the only one that 'wishes we were there' even more now.....

Indemind, March 14, 2010 8:03 PM

Thanks Brooks. It sounds like you had a good time and I'm sure it was worth every penny.
Back in the early '70s Pink Floyd made a song called "Wish You Were Here", well I Wish I Was There with you and your friends.

Thank you for that excellent write up, C. Brooks!
Gretchen Wilson singing Barracuda is awesome! She rocks it out!:)
Can't wait to see her singing it on the campaign trail with Governor Palin!:)

dr vicki, March 14, 2010 8:06 PM

Continuing the discussion of the previous thread:
I've said this before. What pro choice people just don't get is that for Pro Life folks, asking them to swallow a bill that provides funding for abortions would be just like an Abolitonist voting for a bill that funnelled money into the slave trade. They just don't get that we see each one of these unborn children as a human life. They just don't get that.

Doug Brady, March 14, 2010 8:09 PM

As olthers have said, after reading this, I feel as though I was there...almost. Awesome post!

dr vicki, March 14, 2010 8:15 PM

And another thing.
If you're walking up to the hardward store and some group is out front giving out free hotdogs, how many people will grab a hot dog even if they aren't hungry?
Well, guess what. That's exactly what will happen when they pass this health care bill.
Hubby is an RN in the ER. Every night as much as half of the people who come in are people on medicaid or medicare who do not need emergency medical care. They just don't want to wait to go to the doctor's office and/or they're thinking they'll get their perscription for free instead of having to go to the pharmacy.
That's not the end of it. There's a bunch of them who call up an ambulance because they can't get someone to give them a ride, and what the heck, it's FREE, right?!!!

PatrickinOH, March 14, 2010 8:20 PM

Thanks for the write-up CBK, it really did feel like I was there!

CBK - thanks, excellent! Surprised that they don't realize that Sarah is the star of the show whenever she's present! They'll learn.

Would love to hear Gretchen Wilson sing "Barracuda."

Dinah, March 14, 2010 8:39 PM

Alan Grayson has more than a few screws loose and is a mysoginist to boot.

Chief, March 14, 2010 8:40 PM

C4P had a video of a local news report from Tulsa yesterday. They interviewed a group of 4 or 5 protesters. They did not like the theme of "take back our Country". They were confused, and concerned if that meant taking back what the voters had ushered in with their 2008 votes. Worth a laugh if you want to watch it. Typical lefty protesters. Sad and pathetic actually. If that was the only group of protesters at the event then someone should have protested the protesters. They looked pitiful, and extremely lonely.

GAHanson, March 14, 2010 8:40 PM

Being able to draw huge crowds is very important, it's both a psychological boost to the candidate, and a psychological blow to others who are only attracting crowds in the hundreds or even dozens.

0bama would bring in big name entertainment, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springstein, and very popular local bands that did not normally perform live events, and he'd get crowds of up to 100,000 at times, and the media played it up big, usually leaving out the fact that the bands were even there. His big event in Germany was the same way, several bands who hadn't performed live in years were paid big bucks to provide a free concert, attracting up to 250,000, and that is all we heard for weeks, quarter of a million people showed up for 0bama, over and over again.

Right now, 0bama is having trouble getting more than 2,000 to show up for any of his free events. A lot of democrats up for reelection are not even showing up in fear of being tarred as an 0bama supporter. This is big news, and usually overlooked by our side, and ignored by the media.

Big crowds have a psychological impact on all who hear about them, not just those who are there. Not everyone in the crowd will vote for the candidate, but it does create the impression that they will, and quite often people just jump on the bandwagon, and the crowds get bigger, and those voting for the candidate increase.

manajordan, March 14, 2010 8:44 PM

Thanks for this great account. It sounds like it was wonderful.

PatrickinOH, March 14, 2010 8:44 PM

Alan Grayson is not mentally fit to serve as a congressman. Anybody who writes to the AG and tells them to put a person in jail for criticizing them has a bad case of paranoia.

Kjanlady, March 14, 2010 8:49 PM

Thanks for sharing your experience CBK.......I used to live in Tulsa......worked for Indian Health Services........all I ever want to see of a Government Healthcare Monopoly......it was terribly sad.......now I know why Oblamo wants to kill off all us senior citizens.......with us would die the memory of good and effective healthcare.

OT: Anybody see this yet?

Although the Copenhagen conference could have been criticized on many fronts,
it is hard to imagine that Palin’s remarkable statement represents anything
other than a misplaced religious end-of-days argument of the type that
asserts confidence in human dominion over the earth—and that God will
ensure the planet remains fine in the face of human progress, until God
decides to end it all and the worthy ascend to heaven.

But Thomas is no ordinary activist.

She is the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and she has launched a tea-party-linked group that could test the traditional notions of political impartiality for the court.

In January, Virginia Thomas created Liberty Central Inc., a nonprofit lobbying group whose website will organize activism around a set of conservative "core principles," she said.

The group plans to issue score cards for Congress members and be involved in the November election, although Thomas would not specify how. She said it would accept donations from various sources -- including corporations -- as allowed under campaign finance rules recently loosened by the Supreme Court.

"I adore all the new citizen patriots who are rising up across this country," Thomas, who goes by Ginni, said on the panel at the Conservative Political Action Conference. "I have felt called to the front lines with you, with my fellow citizens, to preserve what made America great."

That is so awesome! Thank you for sharing that! Thank you to your family for your service to our country.

dr vicki, March 14, 2010 11:46 PM

Actually, I don't really like the "take back our country" thing either. Not that it's good or bad, it just too ambiguous. Plus I think it may be alienating to some groups such as Hispanics. It sounds a little "white power" to me.
I think they need to use more specific language. Something that means something to people. I even think the "common sense" solutions lines isn't that great either.
Drill here, drill now. Now that one makes sense.
"No earmarks" makes sense.
I think next election people won't want to hear a bunch of slogans.

dr vicki, March 14, 2010 11:50 PM

Obama won for two reasons.
He was the anti Bush.
He rallied the Black vote, and to a great extent the youth vote.
In what scenario would a Republican have won?
The real election was Obama vs Clinton.
A serious terrorist attack or some kind of super weird revelation about Obama, like having other children or being gay or something like that would be about the only way the Republicans could have won that election.

SusanW, March 14, 2010 11:54 PM

O'Reilly is a self-absorbed boob.

dr vicki, March 14, 2010 11:56 PM

I think that's true of the militant pro choicers. But I think there are some unemotional prochoice folks who just don't process it. I think you see that in the shift toward more pro life folks, which I believe is the result of more and more people passing around ultrasounds of their babies and premies being born very healthy.
I guess I have always been pro life, but it just wasn't a big deal for me until that OB put that heart monitor on my size 4 waist and I heard that little heart beat going thumpity, thumpity, thumpity.
Then it was real! A REAL Person!

PatrickinOH, March 14, 2010 11:57 PM

I'm not mad Canary. I'm just having a little bit of fun, but I think you're right. Funny thing is I didn't do so well in French in high school. :-)

dr vicki, March 14, 2010 11:59 PM

Yes, I've been part of that public school scene for a few years. They do some stupid things for their daily attendance. It works the same way in the ER. Some of the factory workers around here need a doctor's note if they miss work, so guess where they show up? Yep, at the ER.
I told my hubby the hospital really should send someone from HR out to some of these factories and talk to them about some way to deal with that issue. There's got to be a better solution for that.

PatrickinOH, March 15, 2010 12:02 AM

dr vicki, March 15, 2010 12:03 AM

Get some parents, and maybe doctors, to go up there to the superintendents office and put a stop to that.
Having dealth with attendance, it is an issue. But they can have a policy of, for example, three days or more requires a doctor's note. If your kid is that sick, they probably do need to see the doctor.
Next time tell them you saw a louse in his/her hair. They'll let you keep 'em home then!

dr vicki, March 15, 2010 12:05 AM

Also, if you've got a good relationship with your doctor, you can call the nurse and tell him/her your kid has 100 temp or whatever. They may will write you a note without you actually taking the child in.
Mine would

Re: ticket prices. You'll pay $120 + fees for orchestra seats at a good Broadway play in NYC, and the front-and-center "premium" seats go for $250 a pop. You can ask Accidental soon-to-be-ex Governor Patterson what front row tickets for the New York Yankees cost, but they used to be selling for around $2000 each. As it looks now there are only 4 candidates who are capable of being POTUS in 2012:

1) Barack Obama
2) Joe Biden (for obvious reasons)
3) Mitt Romney
4) Sarah Palin

#2 is a contingency, so actually you only have three solid choices. For BOR to dismiss Sarah Palin, who by all accounts is solidly entrenched as a contender, is foolish this far out in the proceedings. I did come out awhile back and assert that Palin would be able to beat Romney in the primaries but I don't think I have ever come out and said that Palin would beat Obama. I think I have said it would be equivalent to a 15 round heavyweight championship of the world and that Palin would take Obama the full 15 rounds with the decision being a split decision.

And the main reason I think Palin will beat Romney is based on what I believe Palin will be able to achieve for the GOP in the 2010 midterms. I think the taking back of the House will provide Palin ever-growing momentum as she moves into 2011 and into the heart of the primary season (assuming she runs). And I further believe despite efforts to set up a stalking-horse for Mitt, it will be essentially a two person contest, and I really believe that Palin has the edge because of her strength in the South and Midwest. Of course Huckabee could shake things up and change the dynamic, but I frankly don't expect him to run in 2012 and his absence from the SRLC confirmed that for me.

The Wilding of Sarah Palin

Then along came Sarah, and the attacks became particularly heinous. And I realized something even more chilling about the Left. Leftists not only sacrifice and disrespect women, but it's far worse: many are perpetuators.

The Left's behavior towards Palin is not politics as usual. By their laser-focus on her body and her sexuality, leftists are defiling her.

They are wilding her. And they do this with the full knowledge and complicity of the White House.

The Left has declared war on Palin because she threatens their existence. Liberals need women dependent and scared so that women, like blacks, will vote Democrat.

A strong, self-sufficient woman, Palin eschews liberal protection. Drop her off in the Alaskan bush and she'll survive just fine, thank you very much. Palin doesn't need or want anything from liberals -- not hate crimes legislation that coddles her, and not abortion, which she abhors.

Palin is a woman of deep and abiding faith. She takes no marching orders from messiah-like wannabes like Obama.

And so the Left must try to destroy her. And they are doing this in the most malicious of ways: by symbolically raping her.

Just like a perpetuator, they dehumanize her by objectifying her body. They undress her with their eyes...........................

Continues................

But the biggest shock of all has been realizing that the Democratic Party is hardly an oasis for women. Now that it has been infiltrated by the hard Left, it's a dangerous place for women, children, and other living things.

In the wilding of Sarah Palin, the Left shows its true colors. Rather than sheild the vulnerable, leftists will mow down any man, woman, or child who gets in their way. Instead of a movement of hope and change, it is a cauldron of hate.

In these dark times, with spiritually bankrupt people at the helm, thank God we have bright lights like Sarah Palin to illuminate the darkness.

O/T:

Early today I wrote on topics of conviction and passion and suggested that the Democrats and the Far Left have dominated the GOP Congressmen since Obama was inaugurated over 14 months ago but the gap I admit has narrowed since that time. But I will argue that the closing of the gap can be attributed more to outside-the-Beltway influences such as Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and the Tea Party movement. I then went on to argue that if the GOP is win back Congress it must begin to surpass the Left in conviction and passion if it is to have any chance to do so.

Having said that let me now offer up reasons why our side may NOT be able to do so or what issues or contentions could manifest themselves in order to splinter our side or weaken its overall resolve and presentation and therefore prevent us from making the necessary gains to regain control of one or both houses of Congress. Here is what we need to address over the next 8 months imho:

1) A division between evangelical Christians and the Tea Party movement over the TP movement shunning any move to embrace "social issues". As I stated on another thread I disagree with the TP position of only wanting to embrace economic conservative issues, but it is an honest disagreement on strategy or purview. Unfortunately evangelicals appear to want to draw a line in the sand and divorce themselves from the TP movement. We need both groups united against Obama to triumph in a huge way. Imho, Sarah Palin is the only voice that can bring both sides together.

2) Sean Hannity fears that a between the RINO's in Congress vs. the grassroots/TP movement on pursuing an ideological or more conservative course or not during the midterms could weaken our side. I agree with Sean. This is imho a huge hurdle that our side will have to overcome. The MSM will exploit these differences to drive a wedge between the establishment and the grassroots.

3) Birthers vs non-Birthers

There are a hell of lot birthers in the GOP and our side. I know many on our side wish 'they would just go away' but nevertheless the energies of the Birthers to pursue this issue could lead to some rifts on our side.

4) As a follow-up on #2, a clear division on tactics and strategy could arise between those who favor a more measured, less passionate, dignified approach to campaigning or promotion vs an entirely offensive, take-no-prisoner's, bomb's away approach to campaigning. We are talking sensibilities here but also the ability of the MSM to intimidate certain members of our side to not to push the envelope too far.

5) And finally we could have a major split between Romney's forces and Palin's supporters with regards to what issues they want to emphasize or de-emphasize.

As God made little green apples, you will know the Obama war room, the Democrats and the Far Left together with the MSM will be looking for any opportunity to drive a wedge between different factions on our side. Any sign of weakness, ineptitude or disunity on our side will be exploited by them. You can take that to the bank.

In football terms this is how I see Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin:

1) Team Romney had a major setback last season by getting eliminated in the semi-finals and not even reaching the championship game. It boasted the best and most talented individual players, it's coach was touted by sports media as 'the next coach of the year', and its organization was considered the best in football. But when it came down to winning the game in the trenches Team Romney fell short and could not finish off drives when they got in the redzone and score TD's. In short, Team Romney was a squad with a lot of promise, but poor execution definitely stymied them and perhaps it was not hard-edged enough to fight tooth and nail to hold back the opposing offense. It's strategy on both sides of the ball are suspect, especially on offense, with its emphasis on being methodical and using sound technique rather than on bold play calling and resorting to unorthodox plays on occasion. On defense Team Romney rarely blitzed or surprised the opposing offense with its schemes. Thus the opposing QB was never sacked and Team Romney amassed few turnovers.

2) Team Sarah in contrast to Team Romney is a team with mostly veteran or journeymen players who know how to play the game, rarely make mistakes, and always are on the same page in executing assignments on both offense and defense. The coach on Team Sarah, in contrast, believes in bold playcalling on offense, catching the defense by surprise, and allowing the QB the freedom to win or lose the game on her arm. He has emphasized protecting his QB above anything else, including running the ball. He is cognizant that the season is highly dependent on his QB's performance. On defense he emphasizes man-to-man coverage and turning the ball over and being opportunistic. And on about 2/5 of the opposing offense's plays, he blitzes the opposing QB. His game is all about pressure, pressure, pressure. The goal of the defense is to turn the ball over to the offense and the job of the offense is to ram the ball down the opponent's throat and score TD's whenever they enter the redzone or inside the opposition's 30 yard line. His players have nicknamed him "gung ho" and he doesn't believe in taking any prisoners; instead he believes in leaving the game on the field and punishing the other side for the full 60 minutes. Team Sarah unlike Team Romney does well in the trenches, has a tremendous heart and is single-minded in its resolve to win the game. Some people refer to Team Sarah as 'the lunch-bucket crowd'. If Team Sarah does not win the championship game it will not be for a lack of trying, giving up or being outcoached. It will simply be that Team Romney outmanned Team Sarah and could afford to pay higher salaries to its players to acquire the best talent.

Whitney the Pipsqueak, March 15, 2010 2:19 AM

Good analogy, Techno. I have a feeling that the referees (media) will likely be showing preferential treatment to Team Romney as well.

Okay, this helps - http://spectator.org/blog/2010/03/15/the-health-care-shell-game-beg

Shortly before midnight on Sunday, Democrats released a 2,309 page health care bill that will start the process of reconciliation — but don’t let that fool you, it’s not the actual reconciliation bill with all the changes you’ve been reading about. Instead, as Rep. Paul Ryan, the ranking Republican member on the Budget Committee, explained to me last week, this is just the “shell” bill — the vehicle that Democrats need to get moving on health care. Once the bill gets approved (likely Monday), Democrats will send this phantom bill over to the Rules Committee, where it will be stripped, and then they’ll insert in all of the actual changes that they’ve negotiated.

Well, under the reconciliation rules in last year's budget, any reconciliation bill would have to have been submitted to the Budget Committee by October 15, 2009. It just so happens that earlier versions of health care legislation cleared the Ways and Means and Education and Labor Committees last year. So Democrats just dusted that legislation off, and are using that as the vehicle to begin the reconciliation process. That's why, for instance, if you look through the 2,309 page bill that was released Sunday night, you'll find a public option, which leadership has indicated would not actually be in the final bill. (Interestingly, the student loan bill is also tacked on at the end.)

Uffda, March 15, 2010 2:48 AM

“The reason for this? The original reconciliation instructions require Democrats to use a bill written before 10/15/09, and this bill fits, well, the bill. What’ll happen next is that the legislation will head to the Rules Committee, who’ll erase what’s currently on the page and replace it with the real reconciliation package. It’s a bit like how painters will reuse a canvas they’ve already painted on, though they’re doing it to save money and the House and Senate do it because their rulebooks are confusing.”

If Obamacare does pass this will be a product of several decades of dedicated toil by the Leftists to infiltrate public education and colleges to brainwash students to the virtues of socialism, to place in positions of power in the MSM men and women who are sympathetic to their agenda and legitimize it, to over time convert the TV and movie industries and entertainers in general into an organ to delegitimize and dehumanize our side and to ennoble the ideas of the Left through the use of themes, dialogue and lasting impressions, through taking over the Democratic party apparatus and converting it entirely a Leftist agenda, to use high-tech in a way that it focuses on co-opting the youth of America into thinking that the Left is "cool" and demonizing the Right as evil, to use Alinsky tactics, Cloward Piven and the CRA to undermine the foundation of the American free enterprise system and sound business practices, to install a religion (AGW) to counteract the influence of the religious right, to convince the American people that America was acting like a rogue nation by incurring the wrath of the rest of the world due to its foreign policy, especially Iraq, and finally finding a Messiah (Obama) who could deliver the goods on the campaign trail while being opposed by an over-the-hill politician who couldn't speak his way out of a paper bag and even if he could was a person who boasted little conviction and passion. Everything was in place in 2008 for the takeover. The only thing the Left didn't count on was Sarah Palin.

But in the end Sarah Palin alone might not be enough to hold back the dam from bursting.

Here's an interesting theory that just occurred to me. You have in recent days heard of the Tea Party movement desiring to focus strictly on economic conservative and fiscal issues and shy away completely from social conservative issues.

Could Sarah Palin be now cleverly be playing both sides of the fence? Could she want to be outwardly seen as lining up four-square behind the Tea Party movement to convince the American people that she is not some right-wing Christian extremist nutjob and primarily focused on economic issues, reducing the debt, and restoring prosperity to America while working with evangelical groups, pro-life activists, and groups like the NRA BEHIND THE SCENES to build up her credentials as a bona fide social conservative?

And could Palin's involvement with the Tea Party movement be a pre-emptive strike against Mitt Romney who, as rumors suggest, is forsaking any mention of social conservative issues in the run up to 2012 to totally embrace economic issues and might offer himself up as the Tea Party leader?

And could Palin's work behind the scenes have affected Huckabee's standing among evangelicals and strengthened hers as a result, causing Huck to seriously think about not running in 2012 and caused many conservatives to think about not running in 2012 either?

If Palin is embarking on such a two-pronged strategy, this confirms my suspicion that Sarah Palin is a political genius.

I don't think this is the FINAL reconcilliation bill. Per Congressman Ryan on Thursday.
In a phone interview with TAS Thursday afternoon, Ryan said that he expects Democrats to begin the complex process on Monday, under which they would have the Budget Committee approve a phantom bill by midnight, which they will then send over to the Rules Committee. At that point, the Rules Committee will strip out all of the language in the phantom bill, and insert the changes to the Senate bill that Democrats have negotiated. ....
He said he expected Democrats to dust off last year's health care bills from the Education and Labor and Ways and Means Committees, to use as the vehicle for reconciliation changes.

---> Could Sarah Palin be now cleverly be playing both sides of the fence?

I would not put it that way. Sarah Palin has always been a "Tea Partier," whose personal beliefs are "conservative/libertarian." As such, she is not willing to use Government to force her personal beliefs on others. The problem for Governor Palin on the national stage is the media caricature which was created by the liberal media establishment in 2008.

---> You have in recent days heard of the Tea Party movement desiring to focus strictly on economic conservative and fiscal issues and shy away completely from social conservative issues.

That decision was made very early on by organizers within the Tea Party movement.

Recently evangelicals have started expressing concern about this decision, along with the developing strength of members of the Tea Party movement within the Republican party.

IMV by the fall of 2010 and beyond, concerns about babies, guns and gay marriage (BGM) will wane in importance, being overtaken by fear and concern about the looming economic and fiscal crisis. While BGM issues will remain important to some, by 2012 the vast majority of Americans will be seeking strong leadership to address the looming economic and fiscal storm.

Within the Republican party, the question will be, do people want a competent technocrat like Mitt Rommeny, (insert here Pawlenty or Daniels) or an inspiring leader like Sarah Palin?

In the general election, the liberal media establishment will do everything to prop up President Obama, while helping to "smear" the Republican candidate. The power of the liberal media establishment to influence events will be greatly diminished, although it will remain a factor and if Governor Palin is the nominee, liberal /progressive operatives within the media will do everything possible to "assassinate" her, recycling all the old smears, plus any new ones they can manufacture. The media campaign will be brutal.

If someone like Rommney is the Republican nominee he may or may not win. If Governor Palin is the nominee, she will either win in a landslide, or it will be a blow out for Obama. There will be no middle ground. If events go in favor of Governor Palin, she wins. If events go in favor of President Obama, he wins.

John.Glube, March 15, 2010 7:24 AM

Up until the financial crisis, the 2008 campaign was shaping up as a contest between Senator Obama and Governor Palin. Senator McCain did not fare well when called upon to provide leadership in the midst of the financial crisis and for all pratical purposes, with the passage of TARP, the election was over. Should Governor Palin be the Republican nominee in 2012, she will be a seasoned campaigner and the general election campaign will be one hell of a fight.

O/T - Taking names and kicking butt

For what they are worth, a couple of suggestions for Governor Palin and her team:

- Ensure that someone is tasked with taking a video of all speaking events where Governor Palin appears. This will ensure an accurate record and more importantly, allow Governor Palin to review her work, see where she may have made mistakes and help with continuous improvement.

- At every political event there should be some way that Governor Palin can collect the names, physical and email addresses of those who attended, along with giving attendees an opportunity to sign up to the SarahPac e-mailing list.

One way to do this is to use a paper form. The form should clearly state that by providing an email address, the person is agreeing to have his or her name added to SarahPac's list. The person signs her name to verify agreement.

(If this approach is used, because of data base entry issues, once the email address and name is entered into SarahPac's data base, the software solution should automatically send an email reminding the individual of their decision to subscribe and although not absolutely necessary, asking the person to verify the subscription request. If the email address is rejected immediately remove it from the data base.)

There are technical solutions available on the market which allow the individual to enter their data on a screen into a form, with the form containing the appropriate disclaimer. Once the user clicks the provided submit button, the data is directly entered into a data base. If this approach is used, at a minimum, the person should automatically receive a welcome email verifying the request to have the person's name and address added to SarahPac's list, with the ability to unsubscribe embedded in the email. If the address is rejected it should automatically be removed from the data base. (I write at a minimum, because opponents will enter false data or worse in an effort to cause harm. This can be avoided by converting the welcome email into a confirmation request, so the person's address is not added to the list until he/she clicks the confirmation link in the email.)

- Those who provide their physical name and address should receive a simple note signed by Governor Palin thanking the individual for attending, along with wishing them well in the future.

Okay, as always I believe that Governor Palin's political skills are superb and simply put forward these ideas as suggestions for consideration in an effort to help Governor Palin build her data base of supporters and potential supporters to allow for "push" communications, in addition to using pull communications through Facebook and Twitter.

One word: apathy.

Thanks Brooks. I wish I was there sounds like a tremendous event and I would have stayed for the entire session :)

Except I don't think Sarah is the type to use events to take names for her own operation. Many of these events are charities or local groups and she's doing them for their sakes.

If she starts collecting names, many people may (rightly) think she's doing these events for her own ultimate benefit. And it's certainly politics-as-usual. Many other politicos do as you suggest.

Nonpolitical people, such as myself, are often turned off by such blatant self-serving promotion at nonpolitical or local political events.

This part of Palin's resume is what the anti-Palin forces want to overlook, not wanting to refer to Palin as the former VP candidate.
