Governor Palin in Orlando (Update: Newsmax Writeup)

Last night, Governor Palin addressed the Orange County Republicans at their annual Lincoln Day fundraiser. She spoke for approximately 40 minutes before a crowd of 1300. AP writer Brendan Farrington has more in this article for the Miami Herald:

She received rousing applause from the crowd of 1,300.

[...]

She criticized President Barack Obama's administration and Democrats for being out of touch with voters on issues like energy and government spending.

"Energy touches every one of our challenges, from the values of our paychecks to our nation's interest abroad," she said, adding that she's in favor of renewable energy, but it will take decades for the nation to rely on them and the country needs an all-of-the-above approach now.

"It's about time that President Obama and the Democrats in Congress start listening to the people," she said. "Let's drill here and drill now and tap our proven U.S. domestic supplies ... Bottom line: there's nothing stopping us from achieving energy independence that a good old fashioned election can't fix."

She also criticized Democrats' spending, saying tax cuts and not adding to the debt through spending would better stimulate the economy. She said it "should really tick us off" that America is borrowing money from other countries to create big government programs.

"Government is growing and we are drowning in debt and we have had enough and at every turn Americans have tried to tell Washington and said, 'It's time to hit the brakes,'" she said.

David Damron at the Orlando Sentinel also wrote about last night's event:

Orlando was the latest stop in Palin's high-mileage speaking tour. She spoke in Daytona Beach last month, headlined an Ohio Right to Life Society fundraiser last Friday, and landed in Calgary, Canada, the next day. Later this month, Palin will help raise re-election funds for U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the man who plucked her from relative obscurity to be his running mate in the 2008 presidential race.

Governor Palin mentioned left buffoon, Alan Grayson, famous for claiming that anyone opposed to Obama's health care takeover wants people to die or something. Damron continues.

While advocating for standard GOP issues — lower taxes, less spending, more freedom and smaller government — Palin also singled out one Central Florida Democratic politician: U.S Rep. Alan Grayson of Orlando. Palin said voters need to remove the fiery millionaire lawyer in November.

"Do it for the rest of America," she said in a speech lasting about 40 minutes.

[...]

The crowd was clearly excited by her appearance. As both the first woman to hold Alaska's governorship and to appear on the GOP's presidential ticket, Palin is an inspiration to many female Republicans.

"I love her morals, her character and the way she says what she believes," said Connie Albers, a self-described 40-something, stay-at-home mom from Winter Garden.

Palin is a leading contender to be atop the GOP's 2012 presidential ticket, along with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, past Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich. The best-selling author of Going Rogue has established a political action committee, Sarah PAC, which had raised $2.1 million through the end of 2009, according to federal election records.

For photos of last night's event, go here. Today, Governor Palin will be at an event in Tulsa, OK. We will have more on that later.

Update: Newsmax appears to have done an independent report on her speech in Orlando. You can read it here.

Those pics are GREAT!! She's out there getting her message to the regular folks... and still drawing crowds well into the thousands everywhere she goes.

What would we do without Sarah. I am as down as I can be for all the radical changes the Dems and Obama are making to our country and she is the only one that is standing up to them. We have a few conservatives trying to help , however, they are no match for Sarah's style and sharp tone. She truly is the anti-Obama and thank God for that.

panchita, March 13, 2010 9:14 AM

this silly poll from florida showing Sarah running 3rd. c'mon. really. can someone look me straight in the eye and tell me this WOMAN is running 3rd?

defendAmerica, March 13, 2010 9:15 AM

She is so expressive. I think that helps her connect with people.

They can share the feelings she is expressing... from excitement, to anger, to genuine concern for people and issues, to the photos of her on the stage with McCain conceding the race showing disappointment.

She doesn't have the plastic smile of Mitt all the time and it makes her a real person.

I'll be aat the tulsa show here covering it for the essex blog.

I hope her stand on energy and other parts of her speech make it to the Sunday papers and talk shows. Bo has crippled the economy and the public is becoming very aware of his disastrous policies.

I must admit all these polls are gettting me down. It seems to me she is doing such a good job at all her events and connecting with the people better than any other politicial figure but it does not show up in the polls. Without wanting to sound like a concern troll, I worry that having to fight both the LSM and the Republican Establishment may be too much. However, I sure hope she tries in 2012 because it will be a lot of fun to watch.

Whitney the Pipsqueak, March 13, 2010 9:57 AM

While her fans were quick to defend her, critics have chided the FOX News contributor for promoting the idea that healthcare reform would mean the creation of "death panels." However, she made news most recently by acknowledging that her family went to Canada for health care when she was a child. Canada utilizes a single-payer system which many on the left champion, but which Palin and many on the right oppose.

-------

What the heck is up with this section from the Orlando Sentinel? I still can't believe people are still running with Canadian health care story. It's so ridiculous. Not only are the media misrepresenting the truth, they are also using poor sentence structure in the process!

COFFEE PARTY vs. TEA PARTY
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2010/03/13/cbs-news-gets-coffee-party-fever-its-lot-tea-parties

I know a historical fact of things happened in Asia might be considered irrelevant to American audience today. But, similar to Coffee party or 'movement' by BHO Dem operatives that tries to take away Tea party, which is true grassroot, the communist guerrillas/organized thugs already tried this 50-60 years ago. Vietnamese people were against the French colonialists, they formed nationalistic movement to fight against the French. The communists cunningly raised the same banner and marched until "nationalism" and "patriotism". They initially attracted tons of people. But once the people found out about them, they fled away not fast enough. And when they finally got to show their true colors in 1954, ONE MILLION OF Vietnamese left their homeland in the North to migrate to the south to run away from them. Then 20 years later took out to the sea risking life to find freedom, rather die in the oceans than living with them.

Seeing this type of fake/fabricated/hyped up/distorted/evil so-called 'movement', I feel disgust and angry. Not really at those who did it, since they have a clear progressive agenda to execute. But at the people in the left media who did this. Don't they have any shame, any professionalism left? Half truth is lie, distorted facts are also lies and outright lies are also lies. I HATE LIBERAL MEDIA. THEY ARE NOT TOO MUCH DIFFERENT FROM WHAT I WAS FORCED TO LISTEN FOR 19 YEARS. It can make me feel physically sick sometimes! Sorry about my rants.

Whitney the Pipsqueak, March 13, 2010 10:10 AM

They get me a little down too sometimes. I know nothing of political strategy or trends, but there are two reasons that pop in my head as to why this is happening.

1) People love Sarah. They love to hear her speak. They agree with what she stands for. However, they still have this idea that a President is some old wonkish man. I don't know that it's blatant misogyny or what. It seems to me that there's a disconnect between who people like and who they think should be president. I think some people, and I question this too from time to time, don't seem to think she is specific enough with her policies and ideas. However, there is reason to keep her card close to her chest, policy wise until she decides to run (please). She always speaks to consistent, proven general policy ideas--tax cuts, smaller government, reducing debt, energy independence, strong national defense, supporting our allies, etc. At the same time, if you are one who supports smaller government, there is inherrently going to be less policy involved, as there is less government.

2) With Sarah specifically, I wonder if people are waiting to see if she'll run first and who else will be running before truly making a decision.

There are likely more things that factor in, but those are a few possibilities.

panchita, March 13, 2010 10:11 AM

the polls are meant to get you down. the polls that matter to me are the thousands of people who are paying cold hard cash just for the oppurtunity to see her speak

panchita, March 13, 2010 10:13 AM

just saw a segment on the coffee party this morning on cnn. there's like ten people total and they are getting massive media coverage.

Meanwhile, the anti-obamacare rallies are attracting thousands and total silence from the msm.

yogi41, March 13, 2010 10:32 AM

The silence will speak volumes in November. ;)

narciso, March 13, 2010 10:32 AM

Wow, the AP had a better write up than the Orlando Sentinel, hell is genty thawing

johnmd, March 13, 2010 10:34 AM

Pay no attention to the polls, they are being minulipuated by the left and rinos as an attack on Sarah's base.

SusanW, March 13, 2010 10:35 AM

POLLING + SARAH= distorted results.

And ask yourself this question...why is it that a week doesn't go by when someone is polling about Sarah? All the crap going on in this country...all the corruption...all the politicians that are on the forefront, and yet, week after week, it's another poll being rolled out about Sarah.

All their effort is going into trying to send her a message: "WE DON'T LIKE YOU SARAH, GO HOME, SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP BEFORE YOU GET IN THE WAY OF THE GOOD OL' BOYS NETWORK IN WASHINGTON."

Thank God Sarah is not listening to those polls.

TexMex, March 13, 2010 10:40 AM

No kidding! All we demand from the media is fair coverage not fawning coverage. It was a good write up and I'm now informed about what Palin said.

Geez, journalists, is that so damn hard to just state the facts?

IheartSarah, March 13, 2010 10:42 AM

They get me down also, but I think Palin people get under-polled because there are a lot of people who are don't believe she will run. Romney and Huckabee's supporters are convinced they will run, expecially Romney's. I also think the media is also trying to convince us with the polls that Sarah is not electable. I believe once people know for sure that she is running, she will surge in the polls.

IheartSarah, March 13, 2010 10:45 AM

I LOVE the pics with Piper.

TSM Admin, March 13, 2010 10:47 AM

This is my post for the Orange County Republican Executive Committee (OCREC) Lincoln Day Dinner with Sarah Palin on 03/12/2010.

Yes, this is Orange County, Florida, not California – that mistake gets made a lot.

The host for the dinner was Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty. No typo there. A few years back, the Orange County Commission Chair was renamed the Orange County Mayor. He actually runs in elections for this post. It is not like many Commissions, where everyone runs in their district and then they select the Chairman on some kind of rotation basis. One bit of history, the previous person in this post was Mel Martinez.

I got there just after 6pm. Most of the rain had quit by then. Went inside and got my badge and table assignment. Main ballroom would open about 7 or just after.

They had a long table outside for a Silent Auction. I looked at the dozens of items. Most were sort of standard political and sports photos and other memorabilia and most signed. One though, when I saw it my reaction was, “What?” It was a framed photo of George HW Bush and Babe Ruth, signed below by George. A Black and White photo taken on a baseball field, with Babe in a business suit and George in Yale baseball uniform. It appears one was being given some award by the other, not obvious which. This was the only item I saw that had a card on it. It was an authentication card from James Spence Authentication.

I realized I had left some items in my car and as it had totally quit raining now, I walked back out to the parking lot. Halfway to my car, there was a sudden downpour and I got drenched before I got to my car! After a few minutes it quit and I went back in and headed for the Front Desk. They directed me to laundry where I got my coat dried in dryer and a hair dryer for me. By the time this was all done, main ballroom had opened. (I had considered, just briefly, trying to ask someone to take a message to Sarah somehow and ask if a poor drenched guy could at least get a handshake! Ha ha.) But my luck was about to turn up!

I went in and found my table an sat down. Immediately the folks to my right introduced themselves and we talked a couple of minutes. When I was approaching the table, I saw the back of the lady that was on my left. When I finished initial talk with folks on right, I started to work on my salad. The lady on my left was just in my peripheral vision. Without turning, I can tell that she is wearing red, her hair is up and she is wearing glasses. As this image kicks in, I slowly turn and – it was Sarah Palin!

Now that you have sprayed on your computer screen and keyboard, it was a Sarah lookalike! A lady from Lake Mary, just north of Orlando. I asked if she gets many appearances, she said no but a lot of ribbing at work.

During the salad, they had a Live Auction of 4 items. One I didn't get it totally, but they had a large Alaska and Florida flag. I think it was that you won both flags, signed on the spot by Sarah and a photo with you and her taken right then with the flags. This went for $4200 or 4300.
The other notable item was from Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf. It was a case with his picture and a ceremonial dagger from 1991. This description is direct from the brochure. “.. an Iraqi commander presented the victorious American commander with his personal ceremonial dagger, just as defeated knights would surrender their swords years ago. Seeking to avoid further humiliation for the Iraqi, Schwarzkopf refused. But the Iraqi insisted, saying the dagger was not presented out of disgrace or shame, but to honor the Americans for the way they had cared for the wounded Iraqi soldiers and POWs.” (Can't imagine the MSM [...]

TSM Admin, March 13, 2010 10:48 AM

Alan Grayson got it from all sides this evening, even more than Obama. Of course he is the Congressman for part of this area is why. When Wade gave instructions for the auction, he said we don't need those ear tugs, slight waves of hand, etc. for this auction. It is a big room. So imagine you are 50 miles east on the Atlantic and your boat sinks. You are now on a life raft, it's late in the day and there is a plane in the distance. If you don't get their attention, you will be on this life raft with Alan Grayson all night! Wave like you would then!

Sarah's speech started about 8:35 and ran just over 30 minutes. I'm not good at women's fashions, so here is my best shot. Her hair was down and back. She had a black skirt and a red blouse that I haven't seen before. It was sort of a wrap around, that had large lapels and long big sleeves. (She could almost put a loaf of bread up those sleeves!) She had a small rectangular pin on the left lapel, I think that was the Blue Star pin. There was kind of a bow tied in front and the ends of it hung below the waist. There were some flower designs in black on it also. If you saw her direct, it was definitely red. On the large TV screens though it had an orange tint. (I worked in TV many years ago and pick up these details.) Ladies, I hope I didn't mess this up too bad.

She spoke from notes on the podium and didn't miss a beat the entire speech. In her opening remarks, she also brought up Alan Grayson. What could she say about him? “Well, Piper is here with me so I can't use bad language in front of her.” (Piper was there and came on stage at the end. I didn't see anyone else with her.)

She talked about Lincoln. He didn't have “media consultants” or a “$100,000 wardrobe”, yet his image has endured through the years. About the stove pipe hat, that was his portable office. He kept a notepad and other items in it. If he had an idea, “he would take the pad and write a note then put it back in his hat.” (At this point, I saw what was coming!) So, she has just updated that with hand notes! (Big laugh!) Amazed that the Media made such an issue over it. (BTW: I don't have a problem with her using this. It is a great tool and is one of the “trademarks” sort of, she has now.) She didn't have notes on her hand tonight.

The three things she had on her hand that they made fun of were: Energy, Tax Cuts and lift American Spirits. So, she proceeded to go through those in order in this speech. First was energy and she recounted the progress in Alaska. “Drill baby drill” Also how AK was doing renewable energy.

Then she had, I think it was a Reagan quote, “To Republicans, every day is the 4th of July. To Democrats, every day is April 15.” Some other quotes that stood out to me. “We shouldn't be working for government, government should be working for us.” “We don't want European style Obamacare.”

She got applause throughout, but the biggest, and the most folks standing came near the end. “We still believe in American Exceptionalism.”

After the speech, a young girl sang a song from Annie, The Sun Will Come out Tomorrow, but the word “November” was substituted for “tomorrow” throughout.

Then a local lady named Angie Langley was introduced. She started a website MyCongressmanIsNuts.com about Alan Grayson. She gave Sarah a bumper sticker for it. Apparently Alan even tried to get Eric Holder to fine or jail her. Poor Alan. Someone using the internet so say bad things about him! Must be unbearable! Hey Alan, walk a day in Sarah's shoes – then get a life!

My table was about 3/4 way back, but on the main isle. When the event was over, I [...]

Thanks Doug

Greetings all..

"nothing stopping us that a good old fashioned election can't fix"
"should really tick us off"

old fashioned election!.... tick us off! My oh My! Frank Luntz(the word doctor) has nothing on our lady Sarah when it comes to knowing WORDS!!!

I read and watch Gov Palin from day to day and week to week and am continually blown away with her.
IMHO, Consistence is a key word that evokes great Trust in her... agree or not, we are never left with that HAD FEELING--of being taken for granted and patronized.

I get the picture of the old cartoons where the Road Runner is never caught and Wile E. Coyote is always left tattered and torn trying to catch him. This morning after Orlando... Obama, the coyote, is again left tattered and torn by our Road Runner Sarah.

She is. DRILL BABY DRILL! is just one example.

Great write-up and observations of last night's dinner in Orange County!

Just curious; what are your perceptions of how people at your table and around the big room reacted to Governor Palin and her remarks? Do you have any specific comments or anecdotes you could relay to us (especially regarding attendees' thoughts on a possible Presidential run)?

Polls numbers never get me down because it is still over two years out. If Gov. Palin decides to run it will be a whole new ball game and that is when people will take another look.

But saying that the numbers are used to attack her.

My first hope was that Gov. Palin would be able to make enough money to pay off her legal bills and get back on her feet. That had to weight heavenly on her mind but now she has the wind blowing behind her back.

Right now I am just enjoying the ride and wondering what she will do next.

Jon Stewart anyone?

In general there was positive reaction for the crowd. I didn't get near as much personal contact as I might have due to me getting rained on. By the time I got to my table, we were eating. There were 10 people to a table and most of my contact was with 4 of them. The Sarah lookalike and her son were defrinitely positive. He is an airline pilot and has been to AK. I think his wife was one of the hostesses. Several others were very positive also.

When the program ended it was just after 9:30. I was tired - and still partially wet. So, I had an hours drive ahead of me and I left quickly and most others were heading out also.

Only other specific observation was when they did the "Introduction of Elected Officials and Candidates". The speaker said that with Sarah there, there was an unusually large number of these people this time.

PatrickinOH, March 13, 2010 11:49 AM

Thanks for the write-up TSM Admin, sounds like you had a great evening. From the tweets I was copying and pasting the other day, it sounded like like a knockout speech.

Kjanlady, March 13, 2010 12:01 PM

Good morning all,

What a beautiful day.....God's gift to lift our spirits?.........one of his precious gifts certainly did the job last night down in Florida.......did anyone else detect that Sarah has just upped the level of verbal battle against this administration.......there are several reasons that this could be due to......the criminal behavior being used to take over the health care system against the will of the people............ or could it be Oblamo's sticking his ever growing nose into the Alaska pipeline project.......or it could be the pronouncement that there will be no offshore drilling....or it just could be all of the above with the addition of everything else the radical is doing to destroy America. Anyway, it sounds like Sarah is getting a little more pissed and as most of the men here at C4P might attest to......really pissing off a strong, determined woman might not be wise......we do our best work when we're pissed....we become focused and stronger and even more determined.....we begin to plan our counterattacks to have the biggest possible impact.....we don't waste time on niceties and we never give up until we win the changes we are seeking.......millions of florists and jewelers will attest to this fact.......so Kitty has a message for Sarah......YOU GO GIRL......NO RETREAT.

Where are all the other Republicans.......busy filling their bunkers with bulky cases of books?

It's a beautiful day and Kitty and I are planning another road trip as soon as the game is over......first stop.....a marine store........the boat seems to need some repair work......Cats.....difficult to live with.......but life would be boring without them. Have a blessed day.......Three cheers for Sarah......You're the lady.

Bestbud, March 13, 2010 12:10 PM

NewJerseyCosmo, March 13, 2010 12:26 PM

As I said before, I'll say it again. The folks at Fox News is doing more harm to what the pudding-head public precepion is than anything the liberal media can ever do. Have you noticed the silence since the Juan Williams "centerfold for conservitives" "Hannity male labito" comments, and the false F&F reporting her "shopping a reality show" Things have gotten awfuly quiet about Sarah lately. I think Sarah handed Roger a taste of her night stick. What Fox has been doing has caused a slow but sure hitjob. I guarantee you she would agree with me 100%. The one thing I'm not sure of is the exact agenda behind their strategy. All I do know is the GOP establishment and Fox is a part of it, do not want Sarah to come anywhere near their precious 2012 Gop nomination.

I keep hearing "where's the women's groups"? well just the fact that you have to ask that question says it all, Stupid! I have taken heat from those "Team Fox" fans who are brain washed, I can't help that. That goes into the whole "useful Idiot" afliction. I can't begin to explain how to cure that, the KGB/Communist have had that deal going on for decades, Google "useful Idiots KGB" for youtube clips. It explains why you can't force the indoctrinated to see the truth no matter what you say or do. Let me end by saying, I love your passion for Lady Sarah, I understand that we see what resembles our country is slipping away from us. I know Sarah is the ultimate symbol of American exeptionalism. I know how it feels to indulge in the granger of her sririt, courage, character gives us respus from the pure evil in the WH and the direction he is steering our country.

If Sarah thinks she should run, I will campaign and expend all resorces possible on Sarah's behalf for my Country. I don't worry about Sarah, she has proven to be the most remarkable American to come around in many years. We must beat the machine, or the machine will bring us another Bush or McCain.

Hey! sorry to burn anyone's eyes out with my spelling, I know I suck at spelling. I hope my message is not lost.

panchita, March 13, 2010 12:28 PM

you think Sarah's pissed Kjanlady. I've got eighteen cats and i'm really really pissed:)

BostonBruin, March 13, 2010 12:28 PM

The decision this past week to ban off-shore drilling for the next three years probably has her ticked off like never before! Not a wise decision by Obama/Salazar.

hrh, March 13, 2010 12:34 PM

Here's my email to the writer of the Orlando Sentinel article:

"Dear Mr. Damron:

Please do better research and do not leave your readers with a false impression. I refer specifically to this sentence, which is misleading at best:

"However, she made news most recently by acknowledging that her family went to Canada for health care when she was a child. Canada utilizes a single-payer system which many on the left champion, but which Palin and many on the right oppose."

Canada did not utilize a single-payer system until 1984. Healthcare reform began in 1966 in Eastern Canada and didn't make its way into Western Canada until 1972. In Palin's story you reference, she was about 5 years old; being born in 1964 that would make it around 1969.

Again, Canada did not have single-payer health care at that time. And the Yukon Territories were just beginning to implement some form of socialized health care for Yukon residents. Which the Heaths were not. Chuck Heath told the Associated Press that they paid in full for any services their son received.

Your sentence is trying to imply that Sarah Heath Palin, at 5 years old, was for socialized medicine before she was, at age 46, against it.

This is a misreporting of the facts. It is lazy journalism in which you picked up some misleading headlines somewhere from some other lazy journalist, and incorporated it, without vetting, into your story.

Please issue a correction to that sentence.

Thank you.

I emailed also. However, the damage is done.

5?

I don't think so. Wan't Chuck 3?

Sarah may have been about 1.

Did Sarah say that Canada should change its system? I don't remember that.

The Orlando Slantinel is one of the more liberal papers in Florida. Only the Liami Herald is worse. I lived there for a few years back in the 90's and poured a lot of ink in responding to this or that goofy op-ed writer or 'news' article.

The way to fight "political judo" is to use it's own energey against itself. If you stand in front of the attack, it will have won.

I will try giving counter political judo lessons. You will have to pay a fee. I have noticed over time, that when you give something away, it dosn't mean as much and will not be effective.

The 2012 GOP primarys is going to look something like "The Ladders" commercial on the tennis court. Potential nominees are going to think Obama will be that easy to beat, that all they have to do is win the GOP nomination. It will get silly!

Thanks so much TSM.

Regarding the concept of polls, they do matter and unlike many political observers I will never dismiss them. But I will say that one has to keep all polls in perspective and not allow one's imagination to overrule logic, rationality or commonsense. Here are 5 points or considerations I believe you have to bear in mind as you interpret the results of the polls:

1) If you are familiar with sports, the team that may lead by a wide margin in the opening minutes of the game may by the third quarter seen its lead narrowed or the other team come back and take the lead. Having said that, the polls that consistently show that the GOP has a handsome lead in the Congressional generic ballot and that unaffiliated voters support the GOP over the Democrats by a 2 to 1 margin in the generic ballot must be worrisome to the Democrats. If the GOP widens their lead in the ballot itself or among unaffiliated voters, the Dems may reach a point where it realizes it is in for a bloodbath in Nov. 2010, that there is nothing they can do to stop the GOP tide, meaning they will lose one or both houses of Congress. Whether the GOP can widen its lead in the spring, summer, and fall of 2010 or whether the Dems can come up with strategies or countermeasures to arrest the GOP momentum or at least narrow the gap and keep control of Congress is "why they play the game". Don't be fooled by any pundit that they know what will happen in Nov. 2010 based on the current polls. Polls, like early TD's in a football game, are only indicators of a possible outcome and not determinative.

2) If there is one theme with regards to presidential politics I have pounded away at is the notion that when it comes knocking off a sitting POTUS that our fate is NOT in our hands, but essentially where the incumbent is sitting in the polls in fall 2012. If he is above 51% in job approval, history tells us he will be re-elected. If he is below 47% he will not be. And thus the zone of uncertainty lies between 47-51%. And this is regardless of how qualified the GOP candidate is perceived to be. Today the Rasmussen DTP had Obama at 45% and Gallup DTP has him at 47%, well within the range of uncertainty. For the GOP presidential nominee to have any chance in 2012 Obama must remain in this quagmire for the next 30 months. I hope and pray that he does so.

3) If a dark horse is to gain viability (legitimate possibility of winning the GOP nomination) or traction, early polls are seen as indicators to a candidate's "potential" to enter the first tier and challenge Romney and/or Palin. Believe me potential dark horses who want to become serious players in the 2012 presidential politics, such as Tim Pawlenty, are paying close attention to the polls as well as Intrade to find out how receptive the public might be a 3rd alternative. That the polls have consistently shown no interest in a 3rd alternative except for Huckabee (who has indicated in different venues that he may not run in 2012), leads me to believe that it may be difficult, if not impossible for any dark horse in this election cycle to gain enough credibility to lead him/her to believe that he/she could beat both Romney and Palin in the same election cycle.

4) And as I have asserted all along, early polls that show Sarah Palin a major contender for the GOP nomination in 2012 are important to reinforce the idea that Sarah is a major player and therefore must be taken seriously by the GOP primary voters. And as we move into the spring, summer and fall if these polls still show her a major contender, the voters, especially conservative Republicans will be forced to look long and hard at her and decide whether they want to go with a faux conservative like Romney or vote for a genuine Reagan conservative like [...]

Nancy:

I am doing well, thank you. Haven't been commenting recently because of a new job and some computer virus problems. But rest assured, I have been able to keep up with reading C4P several times a day!

You haven't lost your humorous touch......the other day you had me howling at my computer in reaction to your rapid-fire, funny lines. By the way, did you give Governor Palin some pointers before her extremely successful comedy debut on Leno?

manajordan, March 13, 2010 1:42 PM

What a great event. The AP article was actually fair. Its sad that we have to surprised by the media doing their actual job. Its nice to hear from people who were actually there, thanks TSM for your write up.

The Guv is so quotable. I love that she just says it like it is.

NewJerseyCosmo, March 13, 2010 1:49 PM

I listen to the excuses about the polls. When the polls are in her favor, I hear yall cheering. When they are aginst her, "polls don't matter" Which is it!

Hey! Google "Useful Idiots KGB" and watch some of the youtube videos. Glenn Beck has been reading a book called "The Comming Inserection" He has not gone into what he has been reading, I think it will take emence courage for him to put himself that far out, and it is far out there, but so true. I suggest reading the book with an open mind. If there are any open minds left.

OMG! I'm gonna get banned...

Nancy, March 13, 2010 1:52 PM

wilson,
So glad all is well. Hope the new job is going good for you!
I remember your excellent contributions to C4P and hope you will be able to continue to comment.
I think Governor Palin is an absolute rockstar and find her ability to do things that would not be in other people's realm of thinking, inspiring. She is something else! She makes me smile, and I loved her appearance on Leno.
Thanks for the compliments!
God bless you, and so happy to have you back!:)

Please don't take my words has attacks on anyone here. I think most of you are the salt of the earth. It's just that something larger than what you think is going on here. America is approching moral demise. The battle between good and evil has reached critical mass. You are either a believer or not. Think Linclon v Darwin. Think Palin v Obama. There is a giant line that God has drawn, sides are being taken. Warriors are being armed. End times are here. The way for the anti-christ is being paved. Are you ready?

Relax, Cosmo. Do you note that commentors are beginning to engage you more and also mark your comments 'like' more often? Amazing what toning down the rhetoric just a little bit can do.....

She concluded with a rousing defense of American exceptionalism, the view that the United States is a proud example of freedom and prosperity for the rest of the world to follow.

“We believe as Lincoln did that this nation is the last best hope on earth. And we still believe that America is exceptional. What makes her exceptional is not her politicians, it’s her people and the founding principles that we hold dear,” Palin said. “Anyone who doesn’t get it and is pessimistic about our future should get out of Washington and start knowing the real American people.”
