It's Only 9:47 A.M. on the West Coast and We've Already Gotten Multiple Walk-Backs on Part of the Canadian Healthcare Story (Ben Smith Updates)

The following claims were made early this morning regarding Palin's comments in Calgary:

Palin, as a young child, lived in a remote community as near to Whitehorse as to any Alaska metropolis.

The nearest city in Canada, Whitehorse, is a 15 hour drive away. Anchorage is only 45 minutes away.

The closest Canadian city is 15 hours away from Wasilla.

Little did these bloggers know that the source from which they were quoting either deliberately or unintentionally left off the fact that Palin clearly said that the story emanated from when her family lived in Skagway. Skagway is pretty close to Whitehorse. Now the fun part is seeing all the walkbacks:

"Palin, as a young child, lived closer to itthan [sic] earlier reported."

"The Calgary Herald has a fuller, slightly different version of the quote."

Ok, it appears that this was when Palin lived in "Skagway, Alaska," which is much closer to Canada.

In any event, the Calgary Herald notes that "Medical Care Act that established national medicare came to Canada" was implemented in 1966." Since Palin did not give any time frame for when this story occurred, it's possible that her family went over to Whitehorse prior to when socialized medicine was implemented in Canada. Also, the Calgary Herald notes too that "it's not exactly anybody's political choice where they receive medical attention when they're less than five years old."

Even if the story occurred after 1966, I'll call hypocrisy the day wealthy liberals give back their Bush tax cuts (if it's not clear, I do not believe liberals who benefited from the Bush tax cuts are hypocritical at all).

Update: I'm hearing from even some Palin adversaries that even though the "Medical Care Act" was enacted in 1966, it wasn’t until 1972 that universal health care could be found throughout Canada. If this is true, then no argument can even be made about "hypocrisy."

Update #2: According to the summary of Canada's health care system by Health Canada, it was only until 1972 that Yukon "create[d] medical insurance plans with federal cost sharing."

Update #3: If Whitehorse is closer to Skagway than Juneau and if the Palins paid for their son's care while they were in Yukon, how is that hypocrisy? If they paid for their son's care in Yukon, then how is she benefiting in a hypocritical fashion from socialized medicine considering that the whole point behind socialized medicine is that you don't have to pay for your healthcare (and I still reject the premise behind the "hypocrisy" argument because of the liberal/"Bush tax cut" logic I cite to above)?

Update #4: Ben Smith adds the point we made in our second update to his original post:
ALSO: Socialized medicine apparently only kicked in in Yukon in 1972, post-Palin.

Once again the anvil lands on the coyote's head, while the Alaskan Roadrunner heads on her merry way. Beep! Beep! Suckers!

Wow, they are particularly frothy this morning.

Whitney the Pipsqueak,  March 8, 2010 1:15 PM

As I mentioned in the Open Thread, of course the Left is expecting Sarah to have the same views on socialized medicine as a toddler as she would have as an adult.

She should have stopped her parents from taking her brother to Canada because they had just implemented a nationalized health care system (depending on the year) . This is how ridiculous the Left is.

DoingTheDeal,  March 8, 2010 1:15 PM

Amazing how every little thing she says is so scrutinized...  I think she was about 5 years old at the time, so exact memory is not required and what did she say anyway? Did she compare health care plans? did she make any comment other than to say it was ironic and did not even define what was ironic. So, the chattering dolts out there put their own spin on what they think was ironic.  Much ado about nothing.

Nancy,  March 8, 2010 1:16 PM

Was Canada a state yet?
My history is a little Bammy.

Lynda,  March 8, 2010 1:17 PM

Every word she says is fact checked...from what I read she was talking about her grandfathers and where they lived...yes she did say she got heath care ...I understand her FAITH but I have to wonder if when she goes to sleep does she think; what will be said tomorrow? my mother's heart has to wonder how (I understand her striong Faith) Sally Heath heart accepts all  that is said about her daughter her faith being strong but her love of her child is also strong.

PatrickinOH,  March 8, 2010 1:18 PM

They always fish where there are no fish to be caught.

Nancy,  March 8, 2010 1:20 PM

The only way she could make her parents go to the healthcare provider of her choice, when she was a toddler, is if she was in fact Jack-Jack from The Incredibles and she could make herself spontaneously combust in a temper tantrum, forcing them to follow her will.

Nancy,  March 8, 2010 1:20 PM

Otherwise, I don't think she had a say in it.

Dan C,  March 8, 2010 1:21 PM

When you are a child, you go where your parents go. You do not get to make decisions on healthcare lol. God these left wingers are stupid.

Nancy,  March 8, 2010 1:22 PM

We need to find her writings from ages 3-6, to find out what her true feelings were on drilling in ANWR.

Luc,  March 8, 2010 1:24 PM

She could give a recipe for a bowl of water and they'd try to find a "lie".

RINO-Hunter,  March 8, 2010 1:26 PM

Um, Canada didn't have a socialized medical system when she was that age, and even if they did, she wouldn't have had access to it because she wasn't a citizen (and they probably would have had to pay out-of-pocket).  So the whole story is a big fat nothingburger (if it's even true).

Nancy,  March 8, 2010 1:26 PM

Against ObamaCare.
Nature or Nurture?

Andrew,  March 8, 2010 1:28 PM

Now WaPo is claiming Governor Palin told an "alternate" version of the story...

Palin drew from her Skagway past to illustrate her point. Her brother burned his foot badly jumping through a fire, and her mother had to take him down to Juneau on the ferry to the hospital. “All these years later, that’s still what people have to rely on here in some instances,” she said.

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 1:30 PM

The media thinks EVIL GENIUS SARAH, AT FIVE, MANIPULATED HER PARENTS WITH THE POWERS OF THE OMEN CHILD...to cross the border?

The woman that they daily call an idiot and bimbo, AT AGE FIVE was clever enough to put down her Tonka Truck and analyze, compare and contrast and reach conclusions about the complex world of healthcare...enough to be held responsible for her parent's decisions?

Whitney the Pipsqueak,  March 8, 2010 1:31 PM

Geez....I wonder what the real story is!

The Heaths went to Canada for health care.
The Heaths went to Juneau for health care.
The LSM doesn't know that Juneau is in AK, not Canada.

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 1:32 PM

I found this comment on HOT AIR:

"Before the lefties get bent out of shape perhaps a little context is needed. Canada did not have a socialized medical system for much of the 1960’s. The “Medicare Act’ was enacted in 1966 and it wasn’t until 1972 that we had ‘universal health care’ throughout the country. Even then, it covered only in hospital care – didn’t cover physicians or any other service. We didn’t get universal ‘free’ health care until the Canada Health Act of 1984. So, in short, the care Palin and her family received in the 60’s was not socialized.

I’d like to also add that for the number of Americans who cross the boarder into Canada to receive care (a distinct possibility in remote areas of Alaska where a Canadian hospital may be far closer than and American one) an exponentially larger number of Canadians are sent to American hospitals for treatment they can’t get in Canada. Furthermore, those Americans (and anyone else) who do come here have to pay. It’s ‘free’ only to citizens and residents."

Andrew,  March 8, 2010 1:34 PM

Here's the link: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/03/palin-says-she-used-canadian-h.html?wprss=44

Palin has also told an alternate version of the story that had her family traveling south by ferry to Juneau from Skagway for treatment of her brother's burned foot, rather than to Canada, according to a 2007 report posted by the Skagway News.

The above quote is from their link to Skagway News.

hrh,  March 8, 2010 1:39 PM

Or if she was The Monster in that Twilight Zone episode starring little Billy Munny (right last name?) as The Monster...

Anonymous,  March 8, 2010 1:39 PM

Hmm...so the media is interested in someone's chlidhood all of a sudden.

I eagerly await their pieces on Dr Utopia's time at his school in Indonesia and all his adventures there.

I can't wait to read their pieces on Dr Utopia's admitted drug use as a child, including cocaine.  Where did he get his stash from?  Who did he buy it from?  Did he ever sell drugs?  Was it just cocaine?  Did he ever use heroin or other heavy drugs?

I await their stories on how Dr Utopia went to a posh, elite private HS in Hawaii yet he talks about strengthing public education.  A tad hypocritical don't you think, Politico?

I'm sure we'll be seeing all that and more any day now.

It's amazing.  Last week was the "reality show" and the gifting suite controversy.  Now, it's this.

I saw where George Clooney made a comment about her and the gift suites.  It was so sweet watching him get shut out last night.  I don't even think his movie won anything, either.

hrh,  March 8, 2010 1:41 PM

Wanna' bet the LSM will expend more efforts trying to find Sarah's toddler writings, Nancy, than they ever have or ever will trying to get BO's college transcripts or papers released, or to get whatever the heck BO actually did around the Harvard Law Review offices revealed?

gardunne63,  March 8, 2010 1:42 PM

Sarah's going to have to huddle with her bosses at that Speaker's bureau or whatever and insist that they open up each of her speeches to at least one major media outlet - with full video coverage -  or these kind of "she said this" thing will continue on the Lefty blogs and lefty news outlets like the WaPo.

Better yet, she hires Sheya to travel to every speaking engagement to videotape each speech for YouTube/Sheya/PalinTV.

Andrew,  March 8, 2010 1:44 PM

Why?  She's letting the liberals make fools out of themselves all on their own.

gardunne63,  March 8, 2010 1:44 PM

Don't you remember learning in elementary school how Canada became our 56th state.  A year later, Greenland became the 57th.

riley4palin,  March 8, 2010 1:49 PM

Seeing beyond the absurdity of this story, here is another perspective:

Is the LSM, or whoever is pushing this story (perhaps Mittens camp) counting on Palin to be on the side of socialized medicine in order to try and get health care plan passed, and more accepted by the majority of Americans.

Regardless of who is really pushing this story, is Obama and Mittens now counting on Palin to push them over the finish line?  Do Palin's thoughts and opinions have this much power and influence over the average American.

Interesting.

Nancy,  March 8, 2010 1:50 PM

So, Whitney, she can travel ahead in time to ban books not yet written, and now we have come to find out, that she used Canadian socialized medicine, before it was implemented in Canada!
That is something!
Can I vote for her now, she has powers beyond The messiUH's powers!

narciso,  March 8, 2010 1:52 PM

No, that would really be 'stuck on stupid', than again who knows with these people they are just wired differently

Whitney the Pipsqueak,  March 8, 2010 1:52 PM

Whitney the Pipsqueak,  March 8, 2010 1:55 PM

Since the whole Blame Bush mantra is wearing thin, perhaps the next meme will be to preemptively blame Sarah now for her presidency.

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 1:55 PM

When I was 5 yrs old, I thought potato chips had secret treasures hidden in them.

When I was 5 yrs old, I thought the Sesame Street "Grouch" lived in our trash can.

When I was 5 yrs old, I tied my "Snoopy" stuffed animal's mouth up so he wouldn't bite me when I slept.

When I was five years old I though a tomato and a tornado was the same thing.

When I was five years old, I thought you could turn worms into fishing by putting them in a bucket of water.

I might not have been too bright...BUT I WAS ONLY FIVE YEARS OLD...

Nancy,  March 8, 2010 1:55 PM

It's 9:47 am, do you know what Palin Lie you are pushing today, loons?

kissjrj,  March 8, 2010 1:56 PM

Andrew,  March 8, 2010 2:02 PM

And another conspiracy group as been formed... Healthers!

Palin's family purposefully took her brother to Canada for healthcare, which was on the cusp of socialized healthcare, because they knew 40 years later their daughter's political career needed a talking point to confuse her opponents with.

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 2:03 PM

Someone at Hot Air is calling this BURNEDFOOT-GATE.

gardunne63,  March 8, 2010 2:04 PM

riley4palin,  March 8, 2010 2:06 PM

Norah O'Donnell:  You think Obama's Stimulus Monkeys will share their stash of crack with us Andrea?  We are getting nowhere quick with this new Palin Canada Health Care story today.

Dan C,  March 8, 2010 2:07 PM

How the hell can you be a hypocrit when you are a toddler? LOL
Next we will hear she speaks about exercising and being in shape, but when she was a child SHE LOVED CANDY!!! OMG!!!!!!

gardunne63,  March 8, 2010 2:11 PM

But when Sarah was five years old , she had already :

-Written the Constitution of the U.S. - by memory - in the palm of her left hand.

-Visited ANWR at least a dozen times and marked the spots where the first oil rigs would be standing during her presidency!

-Cleaned up the corruption in her pre-school cafeteria.  Those cafeteria ladies had been taking bribes for years.

-Written several boxes full of Daily Journal books.  (which, somehow, the lefty MSM did not dig up when they were digging for anything on Sarah in Sept '08.)

She is SuperPreSchooler!

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 2:12 PM

THE FACE THAT LAUNCHED A THOUSAND SHIPS...

Sarah is going to start an internation incident.

Politico is already "on the story"...and the Palin-Bashing Troglodytes that lay in their own excrement over in the Comment Section...are posting the expected accusations that Sarah was a "HYPOCRITE...EVEN AT FIVE!!!"

I expect the Canadians are going to start piping in, offended that the American Media has so little respect for Canadian History...that they are making up their own facts with regard to the Socialized Healthcare Timeline.

Whitney the Pipsqueak,  March 8, 2010 2:14 PM

These stories are fun. Not only are they ridiculously easy to poke fun at, but they drive the LSM further into irrelevancy.

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 2:16 PM

I think she still loves candy....that little chocolate lovin' HYPOCRITE!!!

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 2:17 PM

I was just thinkin' the SAME thing.   Ain't it a hoot?

John.Glube,  March 8, 2010 2:18 PM

This story is much ado about nothing. It would really help if "reporters" did their homework.

In the early nineteen sixties, the only to receive serious medical care while living in Skaginay was to take the ferry to Juneau or the train to Whitehorse.

Whitehorse is in Yukon, Canada.

When an American goes to a Canadian doctor or hospital for medical treatment, you are a paying customer.

Health falls under Provincial jurisdiction. The Provinces did not fully implement Medicare until the early nineteen seventies. Even with Medicare, Doctors can run private clinics and treat paying customers.

The Yukon is a federal territority. Although it has a local legislature it is administered by the Federal Government. The Federal Government did not enact the applicable legislation until the early nineteen seventies.

Bottom line: When writing a report, it helps to get the facts straight.

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 2:19 PM

This is almost as fun as the INTERCHANGEABLE-THREE-BABY-TRIG'S-EAR MYSTERY.

Sheya,  March 8, 2010 2:20 PM

Obama smoked until recently, now he’s against smoking even trying to quit. What a hypocrite.

riley4palin,  March 8, 2010 2:20 PM

Chris Matthews:  Was PALIN for Universal Health Care at FIVE YEARS OLD?  Let's play Hardball!!

wisetrog,  March 8, 2010 2:21 PM

Dear god, will it never stop?

John.Glube,  March 8, 2010 2:22 PM

Each Province administers health care differently. For example, in British Columbia and Alberta, the Provincial governments have allowed for private clinics. This has been a source of friction with the Federal Government, which provides block funding to the Provinces. In Quebec, all of the Dentists have opted out of Medicare. Medicare only provides for basic coverage. Want a private room when you are staying in a hospital? You pay. Canadian's get private health care insurance to top up the basic coverage.

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 2:23 PM

Chris Matthews can use that cute little picture of her holding those shrimp.

Sheya,  March 8, 2010 2:25 PM

I am honestly beginning to believe that the left actually wants Palin to be president. Otherwise all those lies doesn’t make sense. Why push so many stories only to have to retract them. At some point people won’t believe ANYTHING negative about Palin. Come 2012 Palin won’t have to defend herself against anything.

The only thing I can think of is that’s what the left is trying to do. Even they have just about had it with Obama they want the complete opposite. But Palin has been tarnished, so the only way to undo the damage is to push as much lies as possible so people won’t believe anything bad ever said about her. Giving her a free ride to the White house

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 2:25 PM

Is someone keeping track of all these "GATES?"  I lost track after "VISOR-GATE."

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 2:28 PM

<span>

I went there and poked around after watching the video Mel put up on the Open Thread. I posted on the Open Thread, but I think everyone has moved on. I feel like the "Truth" Sarah talked about with just getting the pants on before I catch up to you guys! ha-ha!!! ;)

narciso,  March 8, 2010 2:32 PM

I think this gives an idea, of how totally isolated the areashe grew up in, wasn't this the whole point of the "Bridge to Nowhere" in part http://www.southernlakesyukon.com/maps.html

riley4palin,  March 8, 2010 2:33 PM

Andrea Mitchell/NBC News Washington:  According to my sources in Canada, five year old Sarah Heath coined the term 'death panels' on the playground during recess one day during the dodge ball game against the 7 year old boys.  Amazing after all of these years that she can change her last name, but her rhetoric stays the same.

IheartSarah,  March 8, 2010 2:33 PM

I wish they put this much research into the healthcare bill.  Yeah right, like that will ever happen!

Kjanlady,  March 8, 2010 2:34 PM

The lamestream media are just following their Messiah's path with their baseless attacks against Sarah.........when you keep finding yourself in a hole dig deeper and eventually all the work that you do will collapse on your head........buried alive.......what a pathetic way comment political suicide.

Lakerfanalways,  March 8, 2010 2:34 PM

For God's sake..SHE WAS FIVE YEARS OLD!! Boy the left are a bunch of stupid, idiotic buffoons..she was five years old, coudln't vote, coudln't make decisions on her own..what a bunch of dumbasses liberals are, seriously..a five year old, her parents could have taken her to france and it would have been out of her control, she was five years old!!

Sheya,  March 8, 2010 2:36 PM

Has anyone ever paused for a second and thought what it must be like to be Governor Palin. Every word you say, everything you do gets synchronized taken out of context and lied about. In 6 days alone there were false claims about NBC, Silver Spoon, Documentary, The God quote, Canada Health Care. Even when she gives a charity donation it’s spun with lies.

Governor Palin is human and it’s got to hurt sometimes. Governor we feel for you and we pray for you.

IheartSarah,  March 8, 2010 2:38 PM

Oh wait, they didn't put any research into this story or else they would know how ridiculous they were sounding.  Nevermind, same amount of research into both healthcare bill and Sarah Palin.

IheartSarah,  March 8, 2010 2:38 PM

I was just thinking that this morning.

hrh,  March 8, 2010 2:40 PM

Exactly. The rest of learned our ABCs. Sarah learned her ECLs. :)

Andrew,  March 8, 2010 2:47 PM

That's because she's not human!  Her family had her replaced with a cyborg baby in that socialized Canadian hospital in Whitehorse!

BabyCyborg-Gate, GO!

Andrew,  March 8, 2010 2:49 PM

You know, now that we know what Governor Palin was doing at the age of 5 or 6... can we hear what Obama was doing at the same time?  Or maybe just his college years?  No?  Okay, just checking.

Nancy,  March 8, 2010 2:53 PM

I bet she read back then, maybe Dr. Seuss-Oh The Places You'll Go!

John.Glube,  March 8, 2010 2:56 PM

Oh yes, because each Province and the Territories provides single payor health care insurance for its citizens, health care is rationed. There are "death panels" in that the administrators of government run health insurance have established formulas to determine how to allocate scarce resources.

A couple of examples to illustrate the point.

Two people need a liver transplant. One person is a child, the other is a middle aged adult. A liver becomes available which is suitable for both the child and the adult. The child is placed first in line and if another liver does not become available on a timely basis, the adult dies.

Two adults have the same serious illness which will require significant and costly medical care to treat. One adult is a doctor, who has had a distinguished career and therefore is perceived to have made a significant contribution to society. The other adult is a marketer, who has been successful, but marketers are not deemed as important to society as doctors. The necessary resources become available to treat one of the two adults. A choice must be made as to who will receive treatment first. The doctor will be placed first in line over the marketer to receive the necessary care. If the marketer can not survive the wait, he/she dies.

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 2:58 PM

It looks like they might have already taken this "story" off of POLITICO...the comments were loaded with folks complaining that Canada did not have socialized health-care at that time...

techno,  March 8, 2010 2:58 PM

I made a joke sometime ago that the Far Left would be going all the way back to when Palin was in diapers or in kindergarten. I have always maintained nothing would surprise me. "I honestly beginning to believe that the left actually wants Palin to be president. Otherwise all those lies doesn't make sense."

Sheya, neither did Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union to start a two-front war which anyone will tell you with even an elementary knowledge of military strategy was sheer lunacy. (An unbeaten Britain on one side aided by US Lend-Lease and Russia on the other).

All the Left knows is attack, attack, and attack. So they continue to attack Palin because it is in their DNA to do so, but also because they fear her ability to command votes and to topple Obama and his agenda. By all rights Romney's creation of Romneycare should be receiving much more attention from the Left by accusing Mitt of being a hypocrite in favoring Romneycare and dismissing Obamacare, but you hear virtually nothing about this issue. Instead the MSM and the Left-wing blogs are obsessed where Palin got her medical attention when she was an infant.

Steve Altman,  March 8, 2010 3:22 PM

That this off-hand anecdote, given to establish connection with a nation next door and show commonality has generated this much media and internet chatter is very telling. SarahPower is growing at a rate never seen before in American political history. I have been watching politics since Watergate in the Seventies. I have never seen a phenomenon like this. Pundits keep saying she is: polarizing, unelectable, divisive, uh..unelectable, needs to study up on issues, uh ..polarizing,yeah all those. In the meantime, you have C4P, PalinTV, TeamSarah, SarahPalinBlogs, Texans4Palin, over 2 million books sold, Fox news gig, 100k speaking gigs lined up on demand. And so MUCH more. I could go on. It is a simple undisputable fact. No one in the political or cultural arena right now has as much influence as Sarah Heath Palin. No one. And, as leadership gurus wiil tell you, "Leadership is influence"! Sarah has the influence. If she chose to she could raise up an army of volunteers to accomplish great change. That is what terrifies the left. And that is why they seek her destruction. They will fail! There are more of us than there are of them, and we will not stand down!

ChillinInMN,  March 8, 2010 3:22 PM

OMG! Thanks for the laugh JeanA! It is about that pathetic, isn't it?

tim c,  March 8, 2010 3:23 PM

Speaking of spontaneous combustion, that would be a great final act for bo. I know one thing for sure if the House doesn't vote  Health Care in smoke will come out of his ears!

SusanW,  March 8, 2010 3:25 PM

ALL THE MAVERICKS IN THE HOUSE PUT YOUR HANDS UP!!!

wisetrog,  March 8, 2010 3:26 PM

If she declares, it'll be utter chaos.

JeanA,  March 8, 2010 3:30 PM

We are talking about something that may have happen nearly 41 years ago in Canada.

Whitney the Pipsqueak,  March 8, 2010 3:31 PM

That's ridiculous! They've went after her kids, now they're going after her parents and siblings. Geez.

Dan C,  March 8, 2010 3:32 PM

This is so funny. It does not even matter when the socialized medicine started. She was a toddler!

ChillinInMN,  March 8, 2010 3:32 PM

They disect every word of a speech given in Canada, and go on to tell everyone she's irrelevant, unqualified, etc, etc. It's like Rush says, the progressives are telling us who to nominate!

riley4palin,  March 8, 2010 3:32 PM

Obama:  My family is off limits.  I expect the media to respect their privacy.  They did not choose this public life, I did.

As for Mrs. Palin, even though she is a private citizen....have at it!  Palin's Kindergarten records, gold stars for being a good neighbor, lunch money, nap time, and "Time-Out" punishment can be found on www.whitehouse.gov if you make a $10 donation today!!!

ChillinInMN,  March 8, 2010 3:35 PM

...and now they'll be off pursuing the doctors and hospitals that treated her brother's foot/ankle injury.

wisetrog,  March 8, 2010 3:36 PM

So they do admit that what Canada has and what they want to replicate here is "socialized" healthcare.

John.Glube,  March 8, 2010 3:38 PM

ROFL

Whitney the Pipsqueak,  March 8, 2010 3:39 PM

Well, think about it. This "story" just shows that President Obama's political views as a 48 year old are equivalent to a 5 year olds.

tim c,  March 8, 2010 3:42 PM

I heard that Sarah drove the entire family to Whitehorse in 1966 to receive free care, all kinds of tests and treatments, and she would have driven home but it was nappy time!

A little OT, though maybe not:http://keithhennessey.com/2010/03/08/health-care-reform-cpr/

IheartSarah,  March 8, 2010 3:54 PM

Y'all are killing me on here with your comments about this ridiculous story.  My two-year old keeps asking me, "What's so funny mommy?"

Serenade,  March 8, 2010 3:57 PM

And her facebook and twitter friends lists are growing quite rapidly...The more the media tries to discredit her, the publicity only backfires --and turns more to people to get the REAL sides of these "stories."

GAHanson,  March 8, 2010 4:03 PM

Plus his grandmother paid for his education at the private school with the income she derived from being VP of an EVIL BANK.

tim c,  March 8, 2010 4:09 PM

Sarah is going to have to record the entire story ( in 5 part harmony) and tell us all about "fear and loathing in Whitehorse".

Whitney the Pipsqueak,  March 8, 2010 4:17 PM

OT--Another good one from Dr. Zero:

http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2010/03/08/the-conservation-of-liberty/

wisetrog,  March 8, 2010 4:20 PM

She said this on Saturday so why did this start popping up today? I think the Dems may've panicked about the Massa affair and used this to distract from the main story.

Nancy,  March 8, 2010 4:21 PM

Rahm to Axelrod: Get me Sarah Palin's kindergarten transcripts, will ya? There is a story going around that she had trouble with her sorting skills, wanted to check that out, see if we could use that against her.

eclecticak,  March 8, 2010 4:26 PM

Bob Thompson or Hunter S. Dylan?

Bill in Baltimore,  March 8, 2010 4:26 PM

would Reagan vote for Palin ?

some decent kudo's for Sarah, but a few telling (inside the beltway) snarks:

1. "Even on energy, she needs something more substantial than "drill, baby, drill.")"
- ahem, have you studied her record in Alaska ?

2. Quitter: "And while her reasons for resigning early from Alaska's governorship are plausible, they deprive her of one of Reagan's greatest assets--an extensive executive record."

3. "With the partial exception of energy, she has yet to identify a set of signature issues that can carry her particular stamp"
- Ahem, Mr. Author, I think you missed a few of her Facebook posts on health care. And, oh, it only took one op ed on Cap & Tax to burst that bubble.

Lynda,  March 8, 2010 4:28 PM

He may have to sell it that was the say it came out it was 50% off at the bookstore I go to..

GAHanson,  March 8, 2010 4:33 PM

So, this is the new democrat strategy, come up with a new Palin based lie every day.  Just think, all it took was for her to give a good performance on Jay Leno and the floodgate of lies open up just like it was August 29th, 2008.  Do the dems actually think that their campaign against Palin is what independent voters, and people out of work want to hear?  Instead of talking about the big issues of the day, you know the 10 percent unemployment rate, terrorism, etc., they want to talk about 5 yo Sarah Palin's visit to Canada, writing on the palm of her hand, swag, and reality shows, if that is their grand strategy, it is going to backfire on them, big time.

Lynda,  March 8, 2010 4:33 PM

It does what the WH want...we are not talking about the Heath Care Bill which could be voted on next week.

Lynda,  March 8, 2010 4:35 PM

But that would take time...

Nancy,  March 8, 2010 4:36 PM

Is it true, that before Sarah Palin was writing on her hand, she honed her penmanship skills, writing on the wall of her mother's womb?

Lynda,  March 8, 2010 4:38 PM

I do not think so, not as long as there is a 2012 and a lady named Sarah Palin.

Whitney the Pipsqueak,  March 8, 2010 4:38 PM

Hey Bill, did you ever tell your Reagan friend the answer to his question?

<span><span>Ok folks, I need your help

I'm being told by my Wash contact that because no other Governor has EVER resigned other than for a jailable offense, this is de factor proof that Gov Palin couldn't stand the heat in the kitchen, and proves she is not able to deal with challenges.

I'm also being told that Sarah can't ignore history, resign with a flimsy argument, and then expect to be taken seriously because she is telegenic.

I'm also told that of 1,000 conservative activists, they would say Sarah has an ego bigger than George Will.

Can you help me ? I can argue on Sarah's record, but not on what big conservatives might be saying.</span></span>

<span><span><span></span></span></span>

riley4palin,  March 8, 2010 4:49 PM

The story goes that little five year old Sarah Heath took to drawing a map of the cities, landmarks, and "favorite tourist stops" on her left inside palm with a black crayon on the family trip to Canada for health care visits.

....and that is how the GPS system was invented.

Beat that Algore!

yogi41,  March 8, 2010 4:49 PM

I think the bigger "hypocrisy edge" to this story is that Sarah has cast herself as an all-American frontier woman, so what in the world is she doing going to a doctor for her brother's foot when she should have been able to set it herself? Hypocrite much, Sarah? / s

yogi41,  March 8, 2010 4:50 PM

Oh, and Mitt Romney institutes a mandated health plan (with fees) while he's Governor, and not a peep about  "hypocrisy" from the media. Sarah Palin goes to Canada, at age 2 with her parents, for care for her brother's foot and the story turns into she's now a hypocrite? This becomes funnier by the day.

"Exit question: Why on earth would she even talk about her family crossing the border to get treatment for her brother? Doesn’t she know that the left’s going to do this to her?"

The guy is becoming a bigger caricature than he claims Sarah Palin to be.

John.Glube,  March 8, 2010 5:44 PM

O/T while the liberal attack media "implodes again" with another misfired attack on Governor Palin, Right Scoop has a video up of Dan Rather saying:

“Obama couldn’t sell watermelons if you gave him the State Trooper to flag down traffic.”
http://www.therightscoop.com/dan-rather-obama-couldnt-sell-watermelons/

Ouch! (Personally, I think Mr. Rather may have gone over the line, but as the saying goes, all is fair in love and war. I mean, imagine the progressive firestorm that would errupt if Governor Palin were to say something like this. But it sure is starting to get awfully nasty out there.)

Question: Will the liberal attack media go after Dan Rather for .... (the sound of crickets can be heard in the back ground.)

Okay, returning to our regular programming on health care:

Cleaver: Obama doesn't have the votes to pass health care reform (201 out of 216)

http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/21635

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver is a three term Democratic representative from Kansas City, Missouri.

Positive news? Perhaps. But, we can't rest easy folks. We need to keep hammering away.

John.Glube,  March 8, 2010 5:45 PM

Thanks for the head's up.

PatrickinOH,  March 8, 2010 5:46 PM

Here is the answer:

Andrew Jackson Resigned as Governor of the territory of Florida because his wife didn't like it. He Resigned as Senator and from the House as well.

PatrickinOH,  March 8, 2010 5:46 PM

I haven't read it yet, I'll have to later, heading to a meeting soon.

katiejane,  March 8, 2010 5:54 PM

What is really annoying is how so many sites will just keep repeating the original false story and true Palin haters just can't seem to grasp the reality that this occurred when she was 5 or 6.  Ben smith is a bigger dirt bag about Palin than even Allahpundit.  And that is saying quite a lot.

bassman,  March 8, 2010 5:57 PM

I checked into  C4P before I left for work this morning and all was well. I come home and I guess I missed a fun day in Lamestream media land.

section9,  March 8, 2010 6:18 PM

You know what's funny?

This is like the Republicans and Clinton in the mid-nineties. They are making her bulletproof. It's astonishing. Palin is growing stronger every day with this mountain of trash they are throwing at her.

It's the Roadrunner/Wile E. Coyote metaphor that is the most apt. Every box of ACME dynamite explodes in their faces. Every boulder from the catapult falls back on their heads.

John.Glube,  March 8, 2010 6:41 PM

So far, yes.

Don't get me wrong, but every time one of these "stories" breaks, a sinking feeling develops in my stomach. I know that's not rational. Governor Palin has been vetted sixteen ways to Sunday. Clearly her ability to perform on the public stage is getting stronger and better with practice.

I just find it hard to believe that the progressive media is stupid, since I always work from the premise that the opposition deserves respect and is at least as smart as our side. But, as long as they keep following the Alinsky playbook ... they will keep making the same mistake, over and over.

Although not directly relevant, I note in passing that today is International Womens Day.

KeeleyH,  March 8, 2010 6:46 PM

I agree with you, section9. They are making her bulletproof.

I read this story at the Calgary Herald website last night, and my immediate reaction was that, the left is going to make a big deal out of this, even if there's nothing wrong with her story. I knew this would happen.

But you know what, I see this as training, stress testing or strengthening her bulletproof skin, if you will. Sarah will have to get used to weighing her words carefully over every little thing, watch out for potential traps. It's very hard work at first and it may seem unnatural to have to be so guarded. But she'll get used to it and it will become second nature. It happened to the Clintons, especially Hillary. They became pros at this game before long.

JohnDoeAt30Below,  March 8, 2010 6:55 PM

Here's the short story: When the Heath family lived in Skagway, the town had a population of around 600 and there was no hospital. The nearest hospital was in Juneau which was 150 miles away by ferry or plane or Whitehorse, Yukon Territories which was about 100 miles away by railroad. Whitehorse was closer and easier to reach - to say nothing of the fact that Sarah was FIVE and had no say.

tim c,  March 8, 2010 7:05 PM

There are so many other members of the melon family he could have used.

I'm just really shocked that the MSM and Alaskan DNC bloggers never followed up on that rumour from late '08 that Sarah was really born in Canada (I don't remember the name of that village in Alberta).

If that rumour had been a snake ...they could have made a few purses.
