Latest Know-It-All Strategy: Sarah Palin is an Idiot Genius Elitist

Another guest submission from Nicole Coulter.

We’re starting to get a little worried. Frankly, you’re just not cooperating with our propaganda efforts. It’s obvious we’re going to have to get even more organized and more serious. Prepare for shock and awe like you’ve never seen before. Our line of attack here at Know-It-All HQ has been to bombard you nonstop with random reasons not to support Sarah Palin: she has small children living at home with her, she graduated from the University of Idaho, and she was “outsmarted” by Katie Couric, former Democratic Senator Sam Nunn, and a team of CBS video editors. How can she possibly run the free world?

These attempts have served us well among the general public, with Tina Fey’s Nobel-Prize-winning satirical work especially valuable in solidifying and sustaining the “Sarah’s not bright” meme. Broadcasting debutante Campbell Brown deserves honorable mention as do the ageless wonders Peggy Noonan and David Brooks for their tireless eye rolls and gratuitous insults. We can always count on a Palin put-down from the fresh-faced George Will and the ever-astute Charles Krauthammer. Traitor Joe Scarborough is one of our key allies of late while unfortunately, geography ace Carl Cameron has lost some of his early anti-Palin zeal, tragically falling off the “destroy her” bandwagon.

But for all our efforts in the “not bright, not serious” meme, wonderful as they are, we’re beginning to realize the law of diminishing marginal returns. Unfortunately, most normal people out there in non-Know-It-All-land don’t read our work nor do they consistently watch our vile programs. “Will who? Krauthammer who? Frum?” are all-too-common reactions in our focus group research. Too many in the electoral hinterlands simply have never heard of that “Brooks dude” or the “Parker lady.” How are we supposed to slander Sarah Palin if you’re not listening to us?

Indeed, the “Sarah Palin phenomenon” doesn’t appear to be fading away any time soon. It may even be growing if our enemy ops reports are correct. There is still too much unsettling “Sarah hope” out there alive and flourishing among the common people – even after 18 months of our unabated bashing. Palin 2012 lipstick-kissed bumper stickers have sprouted up at too many Palin events and her ratings at Fox News are through the roof. With her appearance on the Tonight Show this week, she appears to be going fully “mainstream” – despite our liberal friends’ best attempts to portray her as simultaneously a “bumbling bimbo” and “Hitler in heels.” The more that people see her calmly shredding the foundation of the current administration, and avoiding David Letterman, the more “normal” and “not stupid” she looks – despite our best efforts.

After Handgate, our associates at Huffington Post and Washington Post (which are actually two separate publications) devised what we had hoped would be a fail-safe new strategy to combat the waning effectiveness of the “she’s a backwoods rube” meme. Their new approach? “Sarah Palin is an evil genius, and everyone ought to start taking her seriously.” This played coyly off our original tactic of calling her a radical right-winger. Indeed, “Sarah is a dangerous religious ideologue” had been a perpetually effective talking point to stave off support among those not aware of Alaska’s historic religious indifference. With this new slogan, “And, she’s also crafty as a fox,” we thought we’d continue to scare away suburban soccer moms while faking out a few in her traditional redneck base. We predicted that using reverse psychology on you hicks might just tamp down your sense of moral outrage and undermine the pride you felt in your fellow idiot. It didn’t work. The tact backfired as you began to embrace her even more in the growing nostalgia wave for Mr. Evil Genius himself, Dick Cheney.

The very thought of Dick Cheney sends us into night sweats. Soccer moms, however, reverted to their “security mom” post-9/11 form and started taking a fresh look at “Scary, America-Protecting Sarah.” Even her radical Tea Party speech plea urging leaders to be “more open to divine guidance” could not be spun as a net negative for Lady Nanook of the North. We were foiled again. So we brainstormed here at HQ, and one of our Chicago associates floated our latest novelty tactic: “Hey, how about Sarah Palin – the elitist?” It was out-of-the box brilliant. We knew we could build on it, dredging up the fragments of the memes we’d thrown at you before: she wore expensive clothes on the campaign trail, she once stayed at a four-star hotel in Manhattan, she couldn’t wait to get out of Alaska and head straight to Noblesville, Ind.

It was beautifully simple: the book royalties, the speaking fees, the Fox gig. Yes, Sarah Palin was becoming one of us, completely out-of-touch with her base of supporters, aloofly detached from her bland, horrifying middle-class upbringing. Loaded with cash, charming-to-the-hilt, she was robbing you all blind: winking, smiling, writing notes on her hands with abandon, charging ridiculously outrageous sums for 50-minute speeches – she was laughing all the way to the bank.

Indeed, it fit in so well with the quitting meme, the diva meme, and the “she’s not a normal person, she owns a tanning bed” meme. It may just be our most perfect strategy yet. After all, look at the delicious irony of it: Sarah Palin, the woman who was going to “fight the elites,” had actually JOINED US. Oh my, good. What could go wrong?

Now, we just need you to do your part, and stop “liking” Sarah Palin. Ok?

OK, to be honest, I have had enough of these satirical articles by coulter...
can we have a rest for a while please.

CharterOakie, March 2, 2010 9:10 AM

I'm behind on my C4P reading the past few days, so I haven't read one since the first instalment. I gotta give it up for today's edition - I liked it.

Kentucky Colonel, March 2, 2010 9:30 AM

That's crude and rude. No one forces you to read them.

JeanA, March 2, 2010 9:37 AM

Great job, Nicole!

Who would have thought that Gov. Palin was paving the way for paid speeches and selling books.

What will the next meme be?

DoingTheDeal, March 2, 2010 9:41 AM

Come on... "crude and rude" ??? what are you talking about? All I said was I was getting tired of reading
long, satirical commentary with "satirical" shots at Sarah that are appearing every day for the last week...
this is number 6 or 7 isn't it?
how about something else for a change? or are we promoting Coulter for some reason?
how about something positive rather than a "double negative" take in a sense?

talk about cranky

gelston the knowitall, March 2, 2010 9:48 AM

I, a knowitall, am reduced to a quivering bowl of jello.
Oh, the humanity!

Nicole puts a lot of effort in these pieces and she should be applauded for her efforts. If they don't please you, don't read them. You can scroll down to the next posting, you know. And yes, your comment was crude and rude. When you needlessly criticize another person's work, you are being crude and certainly rude. Cranky? Not me. It's a joyful morning.

Another great post!

I noticed that the media "cycles" its Sarah narrative, in almost weekly cycles. Here are the personas that they like to "use":

1. SARAH THE "NO-ONE-TAKES-HER-SERIOUSLY-SEX-POT"
2. SARAH THE EVIL GENIUS
3. SARAH THE QUITTER
4. SARAH THE PUBLICITY SEEKING DIVA
5. SARAH THE RELIGIOUS WACKO
6. SARAH THE WHITE TRASH REDNECK

Now, they can add #7 SARAH THE MEGA-WEALTHY ELITIST.

liberals love class warfare.

panchita, March 2, 2010 11:28 AM

great post as usual Nicole. Would beg to differ that joe scarborough is in any way, shape or form, and ally of Sarah. I watch the show almost daily and joe uses every oppurtunity to demean and marginalize Sarah. He was completely disgusted when someone compared howard dean to Sarah, saying that Sarah wasn't as bright.
he excuses all the vile garbage he spews by saying he supported her after her speech at the RNC. Since then his main job has been to denigrate her.
i wait in anticipation for the day when joe's liberal masters fire him. Karma.

GAHanson, March 2, 2010 11:42 AM

Everything possible has been thrown at her, including the kitchen sink. They've attacked her with wolves, polar bears, and whales, they've thrown crying, starving Eskimos in her path, and each new thing, Gov. Palin just jumps right over them, and keeps going. Sarah the Elitist is the most ridiculous one of all. They don't realize that people who support Palin are glad to see that she is making money which is well deserved for the hell she and her entire family have been, and continue to be, put through. Sooner or later they'll catch on, and they'll cluster together to brainstorm another idea. What will it be next, who knows, but it will fail like all the others.

Nicole (aka Recovering Dem), March 2, 2010 12:08 PM

He's our ally Panchita ... We call him Traitor Joe satirically because he's a traitor to well, YOU FOLKS. Ha ha ha.

Nicole (aka Recovering Dem), March 2, 2010 12:15 PM

Well, DTD, you're going to have to suffer through ONE MORE in the know-it-all series, but then we elitists are heading off to our annual retreat to brainstorm more ways to annoy you.

I really think you'll like the final installment ... panic sets in.

Thanks Kentucky Colonel.

Oh, and as for the double negative, you're right Doing the Deal, it's no fun to take even satirical shots at Sarah but her detractors are so over-the-top ... They're begging to be parodied. It's kind of like when Sarah wore the "Valley Trash" T-shirt in one of her campaigns to mock the people mocking her. Remember?

I admit I get a little carried away writing. I'm being over the top with 6-7 days of satire. I realize that. But I'm a journalist myself and I'm so fed up with the media treatment of Sarah. It's been pent up inside me for 18 months. I was only planning on writing 2-3 parts to the series, but I've got a lot of juice. People here seemed to like it, so I kept going. REALLY appreciate Doug and the editors for the opportunity. Love this website and just want to see it and Sarah succeed.

If you like non-satire, I've written some defenses of Sarah on my blog. No satirical shots at Sarah, just defending her record, describing her events, and praising her abilities:

It will fall because we as group who care for Sarah Palin and our Country, will stand together;

DTD

Come on!... You have the remote, change stations! Save the attack for those deserving it, Nicole doesn't. This is a big family, no one is special we are all striving to be our best for Sarah.

PatrickinOH, March 2, 2010 1:57 PM

Great work Nicole! Keep doing what you're doing!

bestbud, March 2, 2010 2:00 PM

Nicole

Nice!.. I'm not attempting a sarc. Response as yesterday, sensitive eyes and ears are
watching and might not be able to refrain from wasting time reading.

You're awesome!

blackbird, March 2, 2010 2:10 PM

Nicole that was classy, you are an excellent writer and I enjoyed reading the Know-It All series. I booked marked your blog. DoingTheDeal I understand where you are comming from and can clearly see your Love for Sarah. Differing opinions is what makes America Great but more so the freedom to voice them.

God Bless all who defend and protect Sarah and her family.

Mountain Mama, March 2, 2010 6:21 PM

D.T.D.----Nicole's pieces are TERRIFIC! What's not to like?!
I hope her last piece contains an analysis of Sarah's being a challenge to liberal sexuality.

Oh----and re. Sarah's supposedly being an elitist: even some "die-hard supporters" (HA!) have dissed Sarah's supposedly-"high" speaking fees. I think she can't get paid ENOUGH for taking all the crap slung her way, and on her family, too. Plus, she has to pay for her own security----and she's sometimes donated her time and money.
You go, Sarah!
(You, too, Nicole! I hope you'll return with many more "Know-It-All" pieces, especially as we near SARAH'S ELECTION AS PRESIDENT!
You might have to pay a user fee to Gelston for that name, though: *wink!*)

Nicole (aka Recovering Dem), March 3, 2010 3:43 AM

Thank you so much, Mountain Mama. I know we will be discussing Sarah's threat at our upcoming retreat. It's frustrating for liberals that Sarah is simultaneously incredibly beautiful and yet at the same time morally virtuous. They don't know what to make of her.

We'll be brainstorming your idea and conducting further research!

Thanks for the support!
