Michael K. McIntyre: Singing Angels Perform for Sarah Palin
Yesterday morning, before Governor Palin flew to Calgary to deliver last night's speech, she was in Gates Mills, Ohio. In Gates Mills, which is less than 30 minutes from my home, she attended a private fundraiser for Ohio Right to Life at the home of Cleveland insurance executive Umberto Fedeli. Michael K. McIntyre, at Cleveland.com, provides a brief synopsis of yesterday's event:
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made a detour as she shook hands and chatted up about a hundred guests at a private Right to Life fundraiser Saturday at the Gates Mills home of Umberto Fedeli.
She followed the music, heading out the double doors of the mansion and into the circular driveway where the famous youth choir the Singing Angels were assembled to greet guests with song.
They belted out "God Bless America" under a perfect blue sky.
"You guys are awesome!" Palin exclaimed. And no, cynics, she wasn't reading from notes on her palm.
Singing Angels Founder Bill Boehm made some calls after Tipoff reported on the event last week and the gig was set. Fedeli asked his wife, Maryellen, whether they should invite them.
"Of course we want the Singing Angels," she replied.
There were no speeches at the event. Palin, with her daughter Piper being entertained upstairs by Fedeli's children, worked her way through the basement trattoria personally greeting all of the guests and a number of GOP statewide candidates. She even popped in to the kitchen to chat with Carl Quagliata of Giovani's Ristorante as he sliced fresh-baked pizzas.
"Do you cook?" Quagliata asked.
"Not like that," Palin answered.
She signed calendars, photographs, even a hockey jersey.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Ohio Right to Life and Cleveland Right to Life. Palin spoke the night before in front of 3,000 people at a rally in Columbus benefitting the Ohio Right to Life Society, to which she said she would donate her speaking fee.
For more, including a great picture of Governor Palin outside Fedeli's home on a rare sunny day in Northeast Ohio, go here.

Speaking of singing...
Here is concert streaming from U of Michigan Youth Band's concert from November. Click here and start with La procesión del Rocio - Joaquin Turina (1882 - 1949) and end at Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo - Malcolm Arnold (1921 - 2006)(There are 4 pieces total) . You can hear me because I play piccolo. :)
Happy listening!
Great write up. The money Sarah raises will save Ohio babies. The ones she saves are Sarah's angels.
That's just like Sarah to do something so sweet.
She has God. That's the only way I can explain it. :)
Hey Emily, I just saw Alice In Wonderland. I enjoyed it, the 3D was uber cool, and Johnny Depp is just certifiably insane (between this and the Pirates movies, he's truly a madman -- brilliantly mad). I got a little bored about half the way through, but it was good. I recommend it. And the M&M's were killer.
"And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me...See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels always see the face of my Father in heaven"- Matthew 18: 5, 10
This is fitting for Sarah anytime, but most especially in these kinds of stories.
This is why leftie heads explode... they are just beside themselves trying to come up with ways to spin her in a negative light.
But she keeps pushing forward, spreading hope and light wherever she goes.
Her continued positive attitude and genuine happiness comes from Someone and Something greater than they understand and that just drives them batty :)
Some of those comments over at Wash. Post article seem a little threatening, should they be reported?
If they come off as death threats than they should be reported.
As Section 9 said the other day Sarah is peerless at this, Completely (again) ruins the developing leftie meme that she's sold out to stardom, hollyweird and chasing money. She knows who she is and she is on a mission. A living embodiment of genuine servant leadership if ever there was. Magnificant and inspiring to watch.
She even popped in to the kitchen to chat with Carl Quagliata of Giovani's Ristorante as he sliced fresh-baked pizzas.
"Do you cook?" Quagliata asked.
"Not like that," Palin answered.
Excellent. Doug, thanks for the report and the link.
Maybe someone could read them and see what you think. I tried to click to report them, but got a message & couldn't do it.
My fav sgement too. Says masses about who Sarah really is.
where does Adam Brickley hang out on the web now ?

I left for the Ohio Right to Life event at a little after 3 PM. I carpooled with a woman who was attending the private reception with Sarah along with her husband and another friend of hers. The woman I went with is the head of a pro-life organization in Dayton called Elizabeth’s New Life Center. On the way to Columbus we talked about what made Sarah so special and what we all loved about her. We all agreed it was her courage, convictions, her ideals for our great nation, and her strength amid all the hatred directed at her and her family.

I arrived at the Aladdin Shrine Center about 10 minutes after 4 PM. The first thing I noticed was that there were about 5 protesters there, all high school kids from the looks of it. I was dropped off in front and the woman I went with asked me if she wanted to take my book with her to get it signed. I handed it off with a letter to Sarah thanking her for coming along with a small gift for her son Track. It was a St. Benedict medal, which offers protection to whoever carries it. I had heard from fellow Catholics over the years that every soldier in WWII who carried it came home safe. It was the only thing I could think to give her. Even though she is not Catholic, I hope she appreciates it. I could’ve given her a book but I figured any book I wanted to give her, she probably already read it.

I walked in and presented my ticket and went into the main room where Sarah would speak in just a few short hours. I picked out a seat quite close to the stage so I would be able to see her up close. I left my coat in my seat to save it and went out into the lobby and bought a few Sarah buttons. I went back to my seat to save some seats for the people I came with, along with more seats for my mom and sister, who were coming later with another couple we know. While I was waiting I turned around and talked to the people sitting behind me. They were a husband and wife with a daughter who was just about my age (I’m 22 going on 23). We introduced ourselves to each other and talked for quite a while about what was going on in the country with Obama as our President, what a great person Sarah Palin is among other things.

At about 6 o’clock the other two people I came with arrived and called me to see where I was. I stood up and waved so they could see where I was. They had arrived after eating out. When they got to the seats I saved for them, they congratulated me on saving the seats. A little while later my mom called and said that they had arrived and were waiting to park in the parking lot. The people they came with let them off and went to park in the mall across the street. I again stood up and waved so my mom and sister could see where I was. I got another phone call from a woman I only knew from Twitter, some of you might be familiar with @ginthegin. She lives not too far from me in Dayton but we had never met before. She could not have been nicer to me and my mom and sister. She explained that we were friends over Twitter and my mom asked if I was well-behaved on Twitter. Ginny made me sweat a bit and said I was well-behaved most of the time. Ginny then made for her seat and again expressed happiness that we had finally met. I echoed her sentiment and proceeded to save two more seats for the couple my mom and sister had come with. The couple finally arrived a little after 7 because they had to take a shuttle bus from the mall across the street to the center.

Finally the main event started with the head of Ohio Right to Life thanking us for coming and contributing to the cause of defending unborn children in the womb. There was a procession of bag-pipe players that were amazing. We all stood up and said the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a priest standing up and leading all of us in prayer. Afterwards Chris Spielman gave a talk about the death of his cancer-stricken wife only a month before. It was heart-wrenching and brought tears to many people’s faces. After his words, an introductory movie about Sarah Palin played filled with people in the media talking about Sarah Palin along with dramatic music. Then it was the moment of truth. I saw Sarah wearing a red top and black pencil skirt with those incredibly high-heels walk onto the stage with her famous smile on her face. She made her way to the podium and thanked us for letting her be there tonight to speak about an issue that was very close to her heart. She gave a lot of shout-outs to Ohio, one of them being we were people who proudly clung to our guns and religion. She repeated some of the jokes she had made when she was on Leno. She mentioned that she had a dollar sign written on her hand reminding her of a message she wanted to give us.

They were even funnier hearing them in person. She talked about all the cities she visited in Ohio during the campaign, and when she mentioned being introduced in Dayton, those of us from there cheered. She then spoke about what she had been invited to talk about, the defense of the yet-to-be born. She echoed her story of when she found out she was pregnant at the age of 43. She recalled the ultrasound when she found the baby was a boy and she being very happy because her and Todd had always wanted another boy. She talked about hearing that the baby’s neck was thicker than usual and them remembering that that was a sign of Down syndrome. She confessed to being devastated at first and feeling just for an instant why women would feel the need to “make the problem go away.” She then spoke about knowing that all life is sacred and that every life has purpose and meaning.

One of the most touching moments came when a girl in a wheelchair, who was sitting across from me kept calling out to Sarah. Her mom kept trying to quiet her down. Sarah looked over and smiled and said “It’s ok, it’s ok!” She reiterated her support for the special needs community and she would always speak out against people who made their lives difficult such as foul-mouthed members of the Obama administration. She then came to what the dollar sign on her hand meant. She implored us all to act against abortion and to dig deep and give to this great cause of saving innocent children in the womb. She shocked us all by saying that her speaker’s fee, generous though it was would be given to Ohio Right to Life. The crowd went absolutely wild when she said that. Her speech was interrupted by standing ovations numerous times. She gave a great speech and I could tell she was thoroughly enjoying herself. She closed the speech by saying “God bless you all, and God bless America!”

After she ended people rushed to the stage to get books, magazines, hats, shirts, buttons, tickets, and even cell phones to get signed. I grabbed my book and my button to get signed. I was at the front of the crowd who had rushed to the stage. It was quite an experience to be smooshed in among all those people. While I was in the mob of people waiting to get my stuff signed and shake her hand, two songs played that really captured the moment for me, How to Save a Life by The Fray and Viva La Vida by Coldplay. I held up my book to get signed, it was grabbed by someone on stage and it was signed in red ink! I handed my button up to get signed. Afterwards, I just stood there watching her at work, I couldn’t leave even if I wanted to. I thought about leaving but then I wanted to get a handshake from this remarkable woman. I held up my hand and I waited for the moment when she would grab my hand to shake it. She reached down and shook my hand. When this happened I held on a little too long because a part of me didn’t want to let go. Unfortunately I forgot to say my name to her. I was just so amazed at seeing her up close that I forgot to say who I was I stayed up there and talked to a man who called himself “the Palin man.”

He was such a nice man and I told him “When I see Sarah, I just know she’s going to be the next President, it’s just a feeling I have.” He told that he hoped that would happen, but even if it didn’t, she could still help the country. I was still stuck up there to my eternal happiness, I couldn’t think of anywhere else I wanted to be at that moment. I looked up again and I saw Piper! I turned to somebody next to me and said “Hey look it’s Piper!” I decided it would be really cool if I got my book signed by Piper too. The Palin man took my book and handed it to Piper to sign. I was so excited now, my book was signed by Sarah and Piper! I was still stuck in the crowd so I decided to go for another hand-shake. I was successful, I went home that night being able to claim to handshakes with Sarah Palin! Then I called to her and asked her if she got my letter. She looked right into my eyes and she said “Yes I did.” I finally extricated myself from the crowd and went home with the people I came with, all of us talking about Sarah Palin. It was truly I night I will never, ever forget as long as I live. I can’t wait till the next time I get to meet her. I thanked God for allowing me this opportunity to meet such a unique woman such as Sarah Palin.
I'm always nervous when I write reports, I always think I ramble on or something like that. It would really make me happy if I got some feedback from you guys. Is there anything I need to fix or change, or leave out all together?
This is a truth I've never wanted to say until now. She is so open and ungaured, and the left so full of vile, that I fear for her safety sometimes. Everyone needs to say a special prayer for her physical safety every day.

I'm kind of nervous when I write reports, I always think I ramble on or something like that. Do I need to change anything? IS there anything that needs to be fixed or left out altogether?
