Now This Is Interesting
I don't know if you knew, but the Republicans in Pennsylvania's 12th District, previously held by the late John Murtha, have chosen their candidate for the special election to succeed him. Their nominee is a local businessman named Tim Burns, and if you've ever heard of him before, you probably live in the district. From my perspective, the important thing is not so much who he is, but what he said when they nominated him (emphasis mine):
"We have an opportunity to put a common-sense conservative in a seat that has long been held by a political insider," Burns told the crowd, referring to Murtha's powerful position as head of the Appropriations Defense subcommittee and close ties to Speaker Pelosi.
This dude is coming right out of the Sarah Palin playbook. The latter of those themes, of course, that of ordinary barbarians vs. the political elite, is neither new nor unique to her, but it's still as central to her message as it is to her political CV. The former, though, is Gov. Palin's phrase; the fact that we're seeing it pop up in the acceptance speech of a candidate in a special election in Pennsylvania tells me that it's catching on. It tells me that the banner she's been waving is one under which other Republicans want to march, and are choosing to march. Which is to say, it's a sign of the real and significant influence and leadership she's already exercising throughout the party.
Like I said yesterday, don't look to the polls to find out Gov. Palin's standing; look to the politicians and see what winds they're blowing with. If the folks who actually want to get elected (or re-elected) think the best way to do so is to have her campaign with them and to repeat her themes in their own speeches, that tells you all you need to know.

Plenty of room on the bandwagon. Climb aboard.
These folks that want to get elected or re-elected are listening to Sarah. They also know that we, her supporters can distinguish her words from those on the Left and Rinos. I just hope they are sincere in what they are saying and not just trying to capture the votes.
God bless Sarah, Todd and their precious family for everything she continues to do for America.
Oh come on, irrelevent people get their phrases used all the time! Oh wait.....
Sounds like a good guy, hope he wins.
All of them , every single one must be completely vetted. They have walk the walk and have been living up to the talk.
tweeter from the Lincoln Day dinner already tweeting...
Just had the honor of meeting Gov Palin, she spoke to me and got a picture.
Well, that is interesting. Its all about the messaging, and Americans want a return to Common Sense. Sarah Palin is so ahead of the curve. People do need to be seriously vetted though.
Imitation is the best form of flattery.
By the way few people have mentioned it recently but Rand Paul now has a significant lead over Greyson and Johnson has dropped out to the chagrin of Lisa Graas. The power of Palin.
And we cannot forget with the endorsement of Palin, Rick Perry managed to gain over 50% of the vote and defeat the Bush candidate KBH. That was definitely not lost on Texas, especially Texas conservatives.
The one problem with electing people who are new to politics is that they have no political record to base their rhetoric off of. It is going to be important that voters try and look into these new candidates life experience and try to judge if they walk the walk.
Scott Brown showed us that even tho he drives a pickup truck with over a hundred thousand miles on it, he is still out of touch enough to vote for the "jobs package".
She said she'll still vote for Johnson though because his name is still on the ballot.
Scott Brown wasn't new to politics as he had been a State Rep and Senator for over 10 years. But no one really looked at his record much because most people only cared about the fact that he would take the 60 vote majority away from Harry Reid.
The two words that Sarah Palin I know she will follow is "due diligence" when vetting anybody. Have you heard anything terrible about anybody she has endorsed (not including McCain) except by the political opponents or the MSM who are trying to marginalize Palin and her candidates?
Sarah is very guarded about revealing too much and that she revealed she was receiving daily briefings from Washington the day before the Wallace interview tells me she wanted to take her "campaign" to the next level and reveal to the political intelligentsia that she is a 'serious candidate' without saying it outright.
Rob, thanks a million for this.
Exactly, Rick Perry, here in Texas, used Sarah's themes, and just like you said it's more and more noticeable all the time... actually it's been happening ever since Sarah's VP speech if you ask me.
What's been ticking me off, to say it in a nice way!... is how ungraceful the SOB's using her themes are to acknowledge, in the siltiest, that she exists.
And the SOB's doing it come in all persuasions... republicans/democrats/talk and radio show heads/male and female... you name it!
When in hades is Gov Palin going to receive her due?... Im mad as heck about it, to say it in a mice way! It has to be one of the lowest levels of contempt for those worthless hackers of Gov Palin's themes to continue acting like the Neanderthals that they are.
Since the rant is on!... you know something else? To hear Obama utter his fake pretense of anything conservative sends me to the moon and back with rage!!!
Anyone sitting around and having the gall to even utter a pretense of knowing what Gov Palin goes through, or throw in a penny's worth of their worthless advice, is also an affront to her honorable influence, character and presence... that is confronting the massive forces trying like hell to destroy America... It causes me to think back for anything remotely close to being, do this or do that, that I have said... or me thinking I really understand the hurt for her and her family.
VIVA SARAH!
I know, which she is entitled to do. But for Johnson to be forced to quit by Paul's "Palin surge" I believe is huge.
mice=nice and that may not be the only one either. :)
manajordan
Thanks, there goes another one of those southing moments.:)
I agree, it is huge.
Time will tell if the Palin Congressional endorsement becomes as coveted as the autograph of Babe Ruth. But if it does enter the stratosphere in terms of sealing your electability, Palin will reach the point where the GOP establishment can no longer ignore her. The lady is simply fabulous at what she does and she doesn't make UNFORCED ERRORS. That aspect of her political acumen is the most frustrating part of competing against her. And in addition she forces you into making mistakes.
Virtual high five!
If anyone hasn't noticed, Patrick is re-tweeting speech attenders below on the open thread..... For you fashionistas the wardrobe update just got posted.....
Yes, we want the real deal. Not parrots.
VIVA SARAH !
I am shocked, shocked.
But that's politics, people.
VIVA SARAH !
Just went to Tim Burns for Congress. Interesting website. Just reading about him, he looks like a good deal. He also has a blog at this site, too.
I heard about him this morning on Morning in America. Rick Santorum was interviewing him. I hope Sarah does some investigation on him because he "sounds" like her kind of candidate. Check him out and see what you think. Rick was pretty happy about him and Rick knows PA.
Isnt william russell the repubs candidate. I get all kinds of money requests and email from his campaign?
Sarah needs to look at William Russell. Russell is a retired military man who has run against Murtha in the past.
You may recall that Murtha called him a GD Carpet Bagger. And Murtha still won.
Why is Sarah Palin with Glenn Beck he is a idiot?
Sarah Palin has established her conservative/libertarian bona fides with her strong support of the Tea Party Movement which is totally agnostic towards cultural issues (to the chagrin of evangelicals), along with her endorsement of Rand Paul. In turn, this allows her to attract independents and moderates to her common sense conservative cause. At the same time because of her strong personal beliefs in life she is able to attract the support of evangelicals, without threatening her support from moderates and independents. Governor Palin is helping to build the new Republican coalition one brick at a time. No wonder more and more grass roots politicians are talking a leaf from her playbook.
grass roots politicians = grass roots conservative politicians
Go away.
More explanations via Morning in America. Russell was our "guy" too. Apparently William Russell is from Louisiana and his running up in PA didn't seem to get a toe hold for the rest of the population in PA 12th. Running against John Murtha was more a military vendetta for Russell and the folks from around there didn't cotton to carpetbaggers all that much. Not like NY where they love that carpet bagging stuff. We are in bitter clinger country in W. PA. Anyway Tim Burns is now the candidate for the special election and probably November, too.
DOOOOOOM!
Tim Burns, as time goes on, may depend on portraying a common message, be it from Sarah Palin, or other critics of the current establishment. For now, I believe Tim's message is not contrived, but rather from his heart. His website says " My name is Tim Burns and I am NOT a politician. I don't claim to know "how Washington works" because I don't believe that it does. I've never secured wasteful pork barrel spending and I don't spend more than I have.
I am a businessman, who is tired of the massive government spending, trillions of dollars of debt and the corruption in Congress. And for those who are responsible for these atrocities; it's time to Vote Them Out."
Tim goes on to say "You see, I have two young sons. I'm doing this for them. Because, by the time they graduate from High School, their portion of the national debt is likely to be hundreds of thousands of dollars. On graduation day, when all kids are supposed to be looking forward to a bright future, what will theirs be? And what do I tell them?
Do I tell them that I saw this coming and did nothing? I wouldn't be able to live with myself. Although I've never held a political office before, I do feel an overwhelming sense of responsibility to my children and to all young and future Americans, to do what I can to take back this country!"
I believe that all of us dads who have run our own business feel the same way that Tim does. I think that for now Tim's message is personal, not a rendition of anyone else.
