Palin and McCain Will Campaign in Phoenix and Tuscson/Palin Begins to Record "Real American Stories"/Open Thread

Jake Gibson from Fox News reports that if you cannot afford the Palin/McCain fundraiser scheduled for March 26th at the Arizona Biltmore, you can still catch the 2008 GOP ticket in Tucson on the 26th and Phoenix on the 27th.

Former Republican vice presidential nominee and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will be in Arizona the last weekend of March as part of Senator John McCain's re-election campaign. Details of that trip are now starting to come into focus.

McCain and his 2008 running mate will host a campaign rally in Tucson on the afternoon of Friday March 26th, before holding a high dollar fundraiser at the Arizona Biltmore later that evening. On Saturday the 27th they will hold another rally in Phoenix.

For the fundraiser, $2500 gets you into the dinner as well as an hour-long pre-dinner VIP reception, including a photo opportunity with McCain and Palin.

Tickets to the dinner alone run for $500, or $1000 for preferred seating.

-Palin is reportedly taping the first episode of the Fox News series "Real American Stories" this week.

-She'll also reportedly be in Knoxville later this month testifying against the son of a Democrat Party hack.

What's going on today?

Update: Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Senator Harry Reid's wife and daughter.

Update II by Doug: Two prominent Democrat Pollsters, Doug Schoen and Pat Caddell, have written an interesting article analyzing the politics of the ObamaCare bill which will appear in tomorrow's Washington Post.

Update III: Brian Bakst from the Associated Press is hearing that the Palin/Bachmann campaign rally will be at the Minneapolis convention center and will precede the fundraiser.

Update IV: David Frum reviews Mitt Romney's book and concludes that "[i]t's hard to avoid the suspicion that [Romney and Obama] have more in common with each other on this issue than either does with his party’s more fervent supporters."

The little basement dweller in Knoxville will see what real class is when Sarah walks into that court room... better have his depends on!

Was Chuck on Eddie yesterday?

At least Sarah takes responsiblity for doing whats right.  Most well know people would figure out someway of getting out of testifying.  She is very courageous and I have great respect for Sarah for that.

Daddy Hack probable should have a few handy also... would love to see their faces!

Tommy, is that tongue-in-cheek?  What's going on today?

Man!  Gov. Palin goes from strength to strength, success to success, climbing higher and higher.

"Just this past weekend McCain barnstormed across Arizona with newly minted Republican Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown. McCain has also been endorsed by former Massachusetts Governor and 2008 GOP Presidential rival Mitt Romney, Minnesota Governor and 2012 hopeful Tim Pawlenty, as well as the new Republican Governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell."

I wonder how much heat Brown, Romney, Pawlenty, and McDonnell caught for endorsing McCain, my guess, no one said a word.  Brown had two rallies with McCain, the crowds were 1,000 in Phoenix and 150 in Tucson, and a fundraiser, no word on the size of that event.  Think Palin will do better than that, I'd say yes.

And I hear on my local news channel that Alaska and Texas are the only two states who haven't signed on to Obama's new core curriculum thing-a-majigger.

Not bragging a bit... but sure am proud to live in Sarah's sister state.

bassman,  March 11, 2010 6:53 PM

When will our media see the smear machine at work against Sarah? The moment she announced the Alaska travel show it began. They told us she was using her kids in a reality show. Then it was Leno had used a laugh track. They moved on to the Palin's using Canada's health care. Ending with Todd's sponser. Every one was debunked. Our media is blind or they are unwilling to tell the truth. There is so much evidence.

A,  March 11, 2010 6:55 PM

Brown was heavily criticized, IIRC.

JeanA,  March 11, 2010 6:55 PM

Now we know why Gov. Palin has been quiet on the home front.

"Just sat in the debut taping of Sarah Palin's new show, Real American Stories. Gave her both my books and had a chance to talk to her!!".

God.bless.Texas.

SarahFanUK,  March 11, 2010 6:56 PM

Yep no heat for the guys and Sarah will cop all sorts of abuse for supporting McCain. A number of Arizona locals on FR are networking hard to ensure Sarah gets a public and visible message that she's backing an amnesty loving, two-timing RINO and hope to ensure she gets several awkward questions from the media (or at a Town Hall rally if that's the format) on amnesty & pathway to citizenship. She'll handle it fine but it sure burns me up that these folk supposedly on the same side want to invest so much time in trying to pillory and potentially embarrass her over this endorsement.

Anyone wondered what happens if McCain gets beat by Hayworth? Do we see that as a  negative or positive for her?

happymullah,  March 11, 2010 6:57 PM

The media will cover this for sure as a reunion with some sentimental overtone.  Sarah is returning a favor to Mac, ad nauseam.
She owes him for her fame, etc.

I just have to grit my teeth, and exclaim ever louder...

<span>But the highlight of my day was going to the taping of Sarah Palin’s brand new show called Real American Stories. And this was the debut show...we were the very first audience. While we waited to enter the studio, I brought two of my books...one I signed to Bristol, Sarah’s daughter, and the other one to Sarah. Her assistant said she would take them right in to her as she getting ready to film. But she also told us that Sarah would not have time to speak with us after as she was heading right to the airport. But afterwards, she hung around and after she had talked to many people and the studio crew were shooing us out, I ran up by her, and she saw me, put out her hand to shake mine. I then said, ‘I’m the one who gave you the two books, one I signed for Bristol.” She seemed to know what I was talking about and said, “Thank you for what you’re doing.” Then we exchanged some, “God bless yous.” It was amazing. I really felt like we had made a connection.
So it was an amazing day of God opening doors beyond my wildest imagination. I had the opportunity to talk to many people, hand out my books, and share my story. I found that everyone connected with the reality of sexual bonding and healing. </span>

I wish this Barbara Wilson spoke more about Sarah's show though.....wonder what it's about?.....do you all think it's a talk show??   hmmmmm

News about the show is probably embargoed.

Uffda,  March 11, 2010 7:16 PM

Hopefully it's a mix, but we'll see.

Uffda,  March 11, 2010 7:19 PM

He was a part of a group of people trying to hack her. One of the group decided they were going to far and emailed the Governor's office about it. I wish I could find that email... I know I've seen it.

terri,  March 11, 2010 7:19 PM

I tell you...I can't wait till this "obligation" that Sarah has with McCain is done. I thought it was going to be just a one night stand sort of thing...not 3 different events. urggggg.

I'm glad she's not the only one getting grief about supporting him, although none of the other big name supporters have gone thru what Sarah has over this.

I wonder though....how did McCain get all these favors from these guys anyways?...I can understand Sarah (sort of), but Brown, and Pawlenty and especially Romney????
I thought McCain couldn't stand Romney and vice versa...so I'm not gettin all this love for McCain.
Someone explain it to me please. ;^0

Bill in Baltimore,  March 11, 2010 7:41 PM

Health-care:

Dr. Milton Wolf, Obama's 2nd cousin (once removed), doesn't like Obamacare.

Revealing type of "reform":

if your doctor is in the top 10% of primary care physicians who refer patients most frequently (no matter how valid the reason), he faces a 5% penalty on all Medicare reimbursements for the entire year.

The scheme is specifically designed to deny you the chance to see a specialist.

<span>Each year, the insidious nature of that arbitrary 10 percent rule will make things even worse as 100 percent of doctors try to stay off that list. Many doctors will try to avoid the sickest patients, and others will simply refuse to accept Medicare.</span>

happymullah,  March 11, 2010 7:42 PM

Techno,

OT regarding Intrade market that shows a surge for Thune.
The bettors bid up the contracts with the following reasoning:

They believe the GOP establishment has already written off Romney despite the latest polls.
The bettors DON'T think Romney will do well in the retail campaigning of the primaries and they know
the power brokers in the party think the same way, and as a result of that he will likely be trounced by Sarah.
They also know that there's no way the party will accept Sarah as a nominee, therefore they will have to promote a DARK HORSE.

In the bettors' calculus, Thune is an unknown. Few people have even seen him or heard him speak, therefore he fits into
the dark horse description perfectly. You can't find anybody darker than that. A total unknown, and that's who he is.

Once he is introduced to the media as a candidate, he will be covered extensively, thus giving him an immediate boost and momentum.
He will just gloss over issues as well as blur his beliefs making him the GENERIC CANDIDATE that everybody could project
their values on him, thus making him the "ideal candidate".

Whether this will work remains to be seen. Sarah must have seen this coming, I bet.
This could be why she went to the Conan O'Brien Show and then the Jay Leno gig
where she was magnificent.
Sarah is already campaigning on the pop culture platforms.

The party establishment had better find a dark horse with that kind showmanship to even come
close to Sarah's ability to wow the TV audiences.

I have seen photos of Thune and he doesn't look the type that can connect with the audience.
He looks too serious, kinda stiff.

He also says insurance should NOT be distributed via employers (one of my biggest beefs)

<span>"World War II-era wage-control measures - a form of price controls - ushered in a perverted system in which we turn to our employers for insurance and the government penalizes us if we choose to purchase insurance for ourselves. </span>

<span>You are not given the opportunity to be a wise consumer of health care and compare prices as well as quality in any meaningful way. Worse still, your insurance company is not answerable to you because you are not its customer. It is answerable to your employer, whose interests differ from your own."</span>

In my oppinion, I don't think it will matter in answere to your question.

Good ridence John McCain!

Steven,  March 11, 2010 7:52 PM

Lipstick, you of little faith? When has Palin failed? The Couric interview was the fault of the McCain camp hoping Palin could pull a rabbit out of the hat to make up for their incompetence in responding to the financial crisis. But that's the past, now she's in control and has been absolutely fantastic with all of her events and endeavors. So don't worry, it will be a hit.

Steven,  March 11, 2010 7:53 PM

Well McCain was the nominee of the GOP and so had the keys to the car so to speak. If you want the keys to the car, you got to get it from him. That's the simplest way for me to explain it.

SusanW,  March 11, 2010 8:26 PM

I hate the way O'Reilly dismisses concerns that Americans have...as if we are too stupid to have any real justification for our fears...and I am still disgusted by the way he treated Dick Morris the other night.

Also, why is it that every night on his show, he has to have "sex-related" segment.   My son asked me the other night if we could watch BOR...and I asked him why he was interested.  My son's response?   "Bill O'Reilly always has pictures of half-naked women."

PatrickinOH,  March 11, 2010 8:30 PM

That's probably why he has the highest rated show on FOX News.  And he just had that floozy Sally Quinn on!  Why do we need to hear from her?

PatrickinOH,  March 11, 2010 8:31 PM

Hannity has his priorities straight, he doesn't have Nicole Wallace on anymore.  Hopefully BOR will retire and Dennis Miller can replace him.

Dana Perino said that she thinks the Democrats had a bad week and they will have another one next week. And BOR said, why is that? (Huh?) She said, because I don't think they have the votes for the healthcare bill.
Really? Did he not know they think they are going to have that vote next week?
Sometimes I wonder if he really knows what the folks are looking out for. Sheesh.

Sarah will adapt.

techno,  March 11, 2010 8:35 PM

I still say the news that has not gotten the attention that it has deserved is Huckabee not attending the SRLC. So much of Romney's strategy and Palin's strategy if they do run would be affected in Huck did not run or did decide to throw his hat into the ring again. I'm not saying that Sarah couldn't get the nomination with Huck in the race but I think her road to it would be bumpier and more precarious. In Mitt's case if Huck decided to stay on the sidelines that would be huge for Palin, especially in the South. Of course if Huck entered the fray again, Mitt could win many states in close 3 way contests.

As for Thune, I think he may be put forward to try to draw away some of Palin's strength in the mid-west. I don't see Thune doing much to affect Palin's chances in the South but the power brokers may be conceding the South, except for Florida to Palin and want Thune to damage her in Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Kansas and so on and perhaps in Montana and Idaho and the 2 Dakotas. That would allow Romney to sweep the NE and California, eke out a win in Florida and win a number of states in the west like Colorado, Nevada, Wyoming and Utah. Of course it is all based if Thune can get traction and do his job of thwarting Palin.

Nancy,  March 11, 2010 8:39 PM

Bill in Baltimore,  March 11, 2010 8:58 PM

Nancy,  March 11, 2010 9:13 PM

Is this correct?
There is no healthcare bill.
No one has read the healthcare bill.
The Senate has voted on the healthcare bill.
The House has not voted on the healthcare bill.
Pelosi is going to magically make it so the House will never vote on the healthcare bill.
The President will sign the healthcare bill into law.
Congress will fix the healthcare bill.

I would hate to play a game of any sort with these cheaters.
Baseball would be, 2 strikes for your team, and 2 balls for their team.
Football would be, you get 2 downs go get 15 yards, and they get 5 downs to get 10 yards.
It is ridiculous.

sarah palin rocks,  March 11, 2010 9:18 PM

I think Huckabee will run.  I just checked his Facebook and he still has this message: "PLEASE HELP ME REACH 200,000 FANS!"  He's even asking his fans to suggest his page to their friends so he can reach 200,000. He's got TeamHuck and HuckPAC linked there.  He's been very busy too going to different events and launching new projects.

I'd say it looks like he's running.  Maybe he is avoiding SRLC because he was afraid Sarah or Mitt might show him up.  He is certainly getting Huck's Army ready to go on the march.

Mr Natural,  March 11, 2010 9:18 PM

I hope Palin has complete control over what it looks like

Of course she will. This is not the campaign, with other people constraining her actions. Sarah is now a complete free agent; she controls the vertical and the horizontal.

RINO-Hunter,  March 11, 2010 9:19 PM

Bill,

That's exactly what I was thinking.  If it's modeled after War Stories it could be a helluva show.

happymullah,  March 11, 2010 9:24 PM

Not to worry. Sarah will do just fine. Remember how we had worried about her making an appearance at Oprah?
Well, it turned out great for her.

Sarah is reaching out to the pop culture crowd. Her campaign for 2012, which I believe has started
on July 3, 2009, will be something not seen before. They try to belittle her as a celebrity, well, she IS a celebrity, and she
is using that to advance her political career, just like Reagan and Schwarzenneger. And she'll be doing even more effectively.

I hear it's going to be sort of a take off on Survivor. Sarah leaves a group of Beltway pundits/journalists outside for a few hours and then rescues them. In the season finale, she rescues Mitten. Chris Wallace will co-host.

They were thinking of calling it "Terror in the Tundra", but Sarah thought that was a little over the top.

Midwestprincesse,  March 11, 2010 9:32 PM

To O'Reilly's credit, tonight he did seem out of it a little bit in various segments.

1) He didn't pay attention during the quiz to see that they had both gotten the 1st question right.
2) He didn't know what year it was when Laura Ingraham was on tonight.

As far as his segment with Dana, I think he was just trying to lead the interview more. I like Bill O. as he refuses to let guys like Massa or Ventura on his show.

techno,  March 11, 2010 9:35 PM

If Huck was avoiding SRLC because of going up against Sarah, I would call that stupid strategy since his main base of support in in the South. He risks sending his supporters the wrong signal and not using the SRLC as a launching pad for a presidential run. If the SRLC was held annually I could see if missing it but since it is held only once every 4 years, two years before the Presidential election I'm just not buying it. If Huck is running, he sure isn't sending the right signals or message. And at 3.5 on Intrade, his low standing there doesn't help either.

happymullah,  March 11, 2010 9:39 PM

Again, Sarah's fame has made her a powerful politician. She is using that leverage now.
Her endorsements are sought by many candidates. A "yes" from Sarah means money and volunteers.

She will NOT become a talk show host because it will tie her down to the job by a contract.
She has a free spirit and would not be happy with a restricted schedule. Her present situation has given her flexibility.
Besides, she is making a great deal of money right now anyway.

Yes, we need to win that one.  Ignore Ron Paul.  Sarah better finish 1st or 2nd to Paul since nobody takes the Paulists seriously for POTUS.

I agree with you there. He seems to not be on top of what's going on many times.

I'm wondering what "real American stories" are.  How will they decide who is a real American.  I feel as if I am a real American, but my story isn't very different from anyone else's.  How many people here have stories to relate?  Maybe we could be an entire show.

O/T

I went to the Karl Rove's book signing today in Huntington, NY.  It was the first time I ever went to a book signing.  It was a lot of fun.  My daughter came with me.  We ate breakfast, had a few laughs and met Karl Rove, all in the same day...

Karl has a great sense of humor.  He was willing to personalized the book.  Most people just gave their names.  I asked if he would write a note in the book.  They said yes.  So, as he was writing it, I had to tell him it was an inside joke with my family.  Everyone laughed, but he was cool with it. But it was so funny to see that he expanded the joke and wrote more than I asked him to write.  I had to laugh.  He got the joke and went with it.  He was a great sport and really a nice person to meet...

Some Democrats shun Obama event in St. Louis

The Show Me State temporarily became the No-Show State on Wednesday as some prominent Missouri Democrats decided they'd rather be somewhere else when President Obama came to push his massive health care overhaul plan.
Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, the all-but-certain Democratic nominee for the Senate seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Christopher S. "Kit" Bond, was "already locked in" to meetings in Washington, D.C., on Wall Street financial reforms, said her spokesman, Linden Zakula, who downplayed her absence for Mr. Obama's visit to St. Charles, just outside St. Louis.

Hmmm, 0bama comes to town to promote 0bamaCare, dems avoid him like the plague.  Later he holds fundraising event, candidate running in 2010 doesn't show up.  Wouldn't this be the lead story on every network and in every newspaper if Sarah Palin had this happen.

<span>Baker: I'm no Mitt Romney

...
<span>
<p>By Michael Levenson, Globe Staff
The ghost of Mitt Romney, a polarizing figure in the Massachusetts electorate, continues to haunt Bay State Republicans.
To wit: GOP gubernatorial candidate Charles D. Baker visibly grimaced and recoiled this week when Jaclyn Cashman of WWLP-TV in Springfield said during an on-air interview, "Some would say your career has mirrored Mitt Romney’s in some ways. Would you agree?"
"Really?" Baker said, sounding surprised. "That’s interesting. No. I don’t think so. I mean, I’ve spent most of my life actually in the public and nonprofit sector… and I think in some ways, that’s important. I understand how Beacon Hill works. I understand how state government works. I’m not going to need to be educated on how to get stuff done on Beacon Hill, because I was there once."
Cashman asked Baker why he had bristled at the comparison. "I wish I could replay your response when I said that there were some similarities between yourself and Mitt Romney and a mirror in terms of your careers," she told Baker. "Why the shock by that kind of question?"

I heard that the NYT will list his book as their #1 bestseller in hardcover non-fiction.  This is hard to believe since it has never been #1 at either Amazon or BN, and only landed in the top 10 at BN for a couple of hours last week.  Something tells me that the NYT will keep it at #1 for several weeks, even if sales aren't that good.  They kept Audacity of Hope at #1 for 20 weeks in spite of the fact that sales were not particularly impressive.  The NYT isn't opposed to using criteria other than sales in deciding who gets on the bestseller list.

Romney, of course, lost support in Massachusetts after he began hardening his positions to appeal to national conservative audiences during the 2008 presidential campaign. Baker, a socially liberal former top budget aide to governors William F. Weld and Paul Cellucci, more often points to those governors as inspirations. He did tell Cashman that he thought Romney was a better leader than Deval Patrick.
"Compared to the guy with we have now, he was a very good governor," Baker said. "He did a good job."

Why are people concerned about the racial questions?  They have made big changes in allowing for mixed race answers.  In most cases, you answer about the race you consider yourself to be.  This would get around not knowing what race you are.

I would be more concerned about how much money I earned or how many toilets I have in my house.  I might slip up on these and be fined.

It is important for many reasons that the government know who is out here.

Why Palin Should Pick Judd Gregg as her V.P Sarah Palin and Sen. Judd Gregg (NH) would be the perfect combo.

1. NH is a Swing State

2. Gain needed D.C Exp

3. gain the 10% moderate swing voters.

4. adds overall Exp to the ticket

5. he does not have star power, he’s very much like sean parnell. makes it a balanced ticket.

6. not known for gaffes

7. Overall nice guy.

8. High NH approval rating

Finally,(most important) After Palin wins Iowa she could double down on momentum by announcing Judd Gregg in a NH rally as her V.P right before the NH primary!
Zomg! Romney would crash and burn! Game Over!

I noticed a few factual errors. Sarah didn't exactly file an ethics complaint against herself either.

Uffda,  March 12, 2010 6:11 AM

If you read administration emails, you will see other members of the administration extremely frustrstated with monegan's performance on a variety of issues. It was not just Wooten. Wooten was complained about but that's it. Monegan still did an awful job in other areas. Working with issues out in the bush was one area the Governor thought he could still be useful. If he just focused his energies on that one thing, maybe he would do great. So her chief of staff offered Monegan that job. He turned it down and resigned instead. It wasn't until he talked to tin foil hat purveyor, Halcro, that Monegan decided it was because of Wooten.

Uffda,  March 12, 2010 6:13 AM

I think this trial is more about connecting dots than anything. See who else was connected with this kid.

But what if someone broke into your private email account? That wouldn't be fun. You'd want to see that idiot brought to justice too.

It's not an issue of having something to hide, it's an issue of feeling violated.

GAHanson,  March 12, 2010 6:53 AM

The Minneapolis Convention Center has a 3,400 seat auditorium, so I expect tickets to the Palin/Bachman rally to go fast.

I see Fred Barns at the Weekly Standard essentially dismisses Palin as a 2012 candidate.  He says she's too busy giving speeches, developing a TV show, and writing another book.  He's really promoting Rick Perry, Jindal and Barbour as the big 3, plus says of the current crop of possible contenders left over from 2008, Huck, Mitt, and Paul (notice he leaves Palin out again), he says Romney is the only one with a realistic chance of winning the nomination.

Uffda,  March 12, 2010 7:02 AM

That's hilarious. What else would you do in prep for a run? Sit at home and twiddle your thumbs?

GAHanson,  March 12, 2010 7:38 AM

Personally, I don't think the country will be ready for another TX governor as president any time soon.  With Perry the attack ads practically write themselves:  "Perry gave TX a 3rd, 4th and 5th Bush term, don't let him give the US the same."  Neither do I see Barbour as the nominee either, he's a good governor, but let's face it, his Southern accent is too thick, and the gop has already been branded as a regional, essentially a white, Southern party, so I don't see him polling well beyond the South.  Jindal, somewhat the same thing accent and region-wise, and very young (only 41 in 2012.)

Barnes essentially is among the "anyone but Palin" group of inside the beltway pundits.  I did forget to mention that Barnes also concludes Palin's not running in 2012 because she's also too busy endorsing, campaigning for, and raising money for candidates for 2010,  He's really grasping at any straw he can as far as candidates and reasons why Palin isn't running.  He completely ignores the fact that one of those endorsed by, and campaigned for by Palin was none other than Rick Perry, the guy he now seems to be pushing to the front of the list.

Allie,  March 12, 2010 8:33 AM

Sccatina is a troll.  Please note, the misspelling, incoherence, writes like a "poor me but I like Sarah and I am worried", with false concern.  She/he is trying to reel you in and then will come in with a comment on a blog somewhere about how stupid are the people at C4P.

I see Sarah campaigning for Sarah via McCaine.  Just think about the cities she is visiting.  Sarah knows, as we know, that thousands of people will come to see HER not Mccaine.  She will be campaigning for three events without costing her a dime!  Population:  Whites, Hispanics and Native Americans.   Very smart Lady!!!!
