Regarding the Mark Burnett/Reality Show Story

It appears that the story is being mischaracterized in some places. We've heard that what Governor Palin is pitching to television executives is not a "reality show" but rather more of a "Planet Earth" style documentary showcasing Alaska's resources, people, history, and splendor.

If the project comes to fruition, it will not be an Alaskan version of the Osbournes. The show will be more "PBS/Ken Burns" instead of "MTV/The Osbournes". This sounds like it's another opportunity for Governor Palin to promote Alaska -- which is, of course, one of the promises she made when she stepped down from the governorship.

From what we understand, the star of the show is supposed to be Alaska, not Sarah Palin or her family. It will focus on the natural wonder, frontier and unique individuals that make Alaska our nation's hidden and often undiscovered jewel.

I don't know about you guys, but I think it could turn out to be a spectacular production in the vein of a Discovery Channel, National Geographic exploration of the diversity of Alaska. What do you expect from Sarah Palin? We all know how much she adores her home state.

And who doesn't love Ken Burns?

Andrew,  March 4, 2010 2:04 AM

Sounds fabulous.

Am I the only one wishing I could work with Governor Palin in some form?  Hmm, wonder if she needs a technology graduate, or a writer.  Call me, Governor Palin!  I'm unemployed!

manajordan,  March 4, 2010 2:12 AM

This sounds cool. I love stuff like the Planet Earth series, and would love to see some of the amazing beauty that is Alaska.

"Alaska our nation's hidden and often undiscovered jewel" thanks tommy, I like the idea very much and I hope Sarah gets the chance "to promote Alaska" brilliant.

Andrew,  March 4, 2010 2:18 AM

Also, a story about Governor Palin being mischaracterized?  Surely you jest!

sarah palin rocks,  March 4, 2010 2:20 AM

I have complete faith in Sarah that no matter what the project turns out to be that she will make it a smashing success just like her book and other endeavors.

Go Sarah!

The Ken Burns Effect.

The Sarah Palin Effect.

;-)

Amen to that my friend...

This is must see TV.

A short ad, then a governor tells it like it is.

Compelling.

I can second that. Sheya has saying that it's about Alaska all night long. He tried to keep the folks from trying to get all wee wee'd up, but you know some folks just love wearing those depends.

Just-Sayin,  March 4, 2010 3:17 AM

the spin is 100% wishful thinking.

People on the left would love for Sarah to retire from Politics to some trashy reality tv show ie the Osbournes or The Surreal Life.

I can't wait to hear what she's working on with Burnett...but truthfully Im still happy shes in LA!

Have a book signning Sarah!

As of today, this will be the only political site I frequent (in addition to Drudge, where I keep up with the latest headlines.) I've had it up to HERE with the false rumor mills perpetuated about Governor Palin. Even the few "conservative" blogs I visit latch onto the media's lies like LEECHES. I realize that the truth eventually comes out, but then again, does it really? Some people to this day go on believing lies about Palin banning books and other such things. The nation's largest newspapers only print tiny-font retractions whenever they get stories wrong.

Mere headlines such as "Palin Shops Reality Show" have a subconscious effect in people's minds as, the lamestream media seeks to undermine her image, therefore her message, and therefore the movement she represents. It undermines her credibility and lays the foundation for how the public perceives her going into 2012 (IF she were to run and if she's not running, I just wanted to say I have ZERO, yes ZERO enthusiasm for the others who are considered to be in the running. Some, like Romney, I can't even imagine voting for regardless of how bad Obama is.)

It's amazing how the true and unfortunate colors of some of the journalists, pundits, and "thinkers" I used to respect came out ever since Palin entered the public arena. I continue to be amazed by the amount of classless condescension they've displayed. Sure, it's to be expected by people from the left, but it's made me see the deep flaws in "the right" more than anything.

Anyhow, I am sick of all the trolls and identifying with fellow Republicans who clearly do NOT share my values. I do not identify as a Republican anymore--but a "Conservative 4 Palin" and any party that does not embrace her, clearly does not embrace me. And a country of citizens which engages in the equivalent of spitting at her (and her family), is a country going downhill as fast as ever.

hillbuzz has a very good article contrasting Hillarys decision to leave the senate and Palin decision to control her own media exposure.

"Similarly, we believe Sarah Palin is making perhaps the smartest, most brilliant, tactical move of 21st Century politics in pursuing the travelogue/adventure/exploration of Alaska series with Mark Burnet. Here’s why:

(1) Sarah Palin will no doubt have complete control over how she is portrayed on the Burnet show. She would never agree to such an undertaking if this was not true. That would be ludicrous. So every episode of the show will be what Sarah Palin wants America to see about Alaska, and Sarah Palin too. She will control the narrative. She will take viewers to places that have special meaning to her, and that showcase her many strengths and talents. Every episode will be a campaign commercial without most Americans realizing it. The grandeur of Alaska will unfold before their eyes, with Sarah Palin as their guide. An emotional connection will form with her, the way those connections form between viewers and the people on Amazing Race or Survivor. At home in Cleveland or Helena or Newark, people will see “their friend Sarah” out and about in exotic far-flung places, and they will share whatever adventures unfold with her. They will get to know Alaska through her, and get to know her through Alaska…and the miracle of television."

definitely worth reading.

I realize this has nothing to do with the documentary in question, but I just wanted to thank the creators of this blog for creating a safe haven for people who admire the prinicples so beautifully embodied by patriots such as Governor Palin. I also love the substance of the featured stories, which offer thorough cultural, historical, and analytical insight into the issues of our day, that deeply contrast from the shallow and superficial "analysis" provided for by self-appointed elitists.  C4P truly is the most engaging and insightful political site on the web and I am glad to have finally started commenting! (I've been reading the site for months now.)

Uffda,  March 4, 2010 6:28 AM

Hm. Perhaps ANWR could make a cameo? The pipeline perhaps?

I would love to see it. I'd buy it if they put it on DVD.

Uffda,  March 4, 2010 6:28 AM

Wouldn't you love to have her promoting and defending the whole nation like she promotes Alaska?

wisetrog,  March 4, 2010 6:32 AM

I woke up from sleep and had this idea and rushed here to type and of course, C4P is before me. She's doing what Al gore did to global warming. She's gonna make a documentary about ANWR, drilling and the vast resoures Alaska has and clear misconceptions about it in the public.

wisetrog,  March 4, 2010 6:33 AM

Use Inconvenient Truth as an example presto.

wisetrog,  March 4, 2010 6:35 AM

Exactly. They were talking crap about reality show when she resigned and of course the Gov dashed the speculation about it when she was with Oprah.

RedDaveR,  March 4, 2010 6:38 AM

I agree with your point about the pundits on "the right" and the so-called Republicans. One thing the presence of Sarah Palin on the scene has done is to expose how contaminated the GOP has become over the last several years.  That is finally beginning to change, but our nation is paying a heavy price in the meantime.

Spera,  March 4, 2010 6:44 AM

I can see why she would want to do this, to change misconceptions about Alaska and drilling.  I think this has been a passion of hers for quite some time.

wisetrog,  March 4, 2010 6:50 AM

Exactly serenade. I thought yesterday that she won't run and the bottom dropped out my stomach. I also began to wonder who else to support and there was no one. Electing Romney wouldn't make one whit of difference to what Obama is doing now.

Serenade,  March 4, 2010 6:51 AM

Exactly.

And just to further expand on my comments about the self-appointed elitists: they do not produce the work worthy of scholarly credibility. Their writings rather resemble catty gossip columns more appropriate for high school cliques. Maureen Dowd and Kathleen Parker's writings come to mind.

GAHanson,  March 4, 2010 6:56 AM

Never believed the "reality show" story, but figured it was something more along these lines.  This is the type of thing that FOX should be having her do instead of 5 minute appearances where so often she is just asked about herself.  I'm sure that she probably isn't too happy with how the FOX gig has turned out.  BOR reported her appearance on Leno then said said he hoped to have her on his show real soon.  I hope he does too, but instead of asking her about herself, ask her opinion on something of importance, please.

tim c,  March 4, 2010 7:09 AM

Just sit a camera in ANWAR and show us how much we're missing! The hollywood leaks will all be slanted against Sarah but an infomercial about Alaska would be amazing.

Serenade,  March 4, 2010 7:10 AM

Serenade,  March 4, 2010 7:14 AM

The Fox personalities have major egos and I think they are envious of her, perhaps because she's a woman? Just instinctual response I guess, who knows what else makes people who supposedly share her values feel so threatened by her. Many are fine with Palin's "success," they just do not want her to become President and it's so obvious.

Chris Wallace's interview was great though! :)

That link Tommy posted yesterday says that Romney is still supporting global warming. I am sorry but even now? After all that was exposed about East Anglia? If you can support that freedom killing nonsense even after it's been exposed as the biggest scientific expose, what does it say about you? I'd take Gov.Palin's common sense over these idiots any day.

AndreaB,  March 4, 2010 7:18 AM

I almost died watching Fox and Friends this morning. Yesterday I fell asleep early because I wasn't feeling well. My daughter gets up at six for school so I turn on Fox and get her breakfast ready. Sarahs new book was mentioned and talk of a reality show of Sarah and her family life in Alaska. My stomach dropped for I had no Idea this was floating on the net last evening. The first thing I did was rush upstairs and hit C4P for the truth.

Now that my blood pressure is down I can say I'm glad that Sarah will keep her word and promote Alaska. It is a beautiful state full of so many natural resources. She will make sure this is done right.

wisetrog,  March 4, 2010 7:20 AM

And then there's this idiot. Look's like he's running too and look at what he's been doing.

Sarah loves Alaska and always strives to push her state to the forefront. mccain never helped her out during the campaign, hence her popularity sank in the state.

Slowly but surely she is mending fences. Entropy baby, entropy.

SusanW,  March 4, 2010 7:35 AM

What is it that Sarah told Leno?  "The Lie has traveled half way 'round the world, before the Truth has even had a chance to put his pants on."

The most frustrating part about this is that there will be Palin supporters out there, who still haven't learned...even after all this time...after ALL the ridiculous rumors and distorted stories, that the Media NEVER gets the story about Sarah accurate.  NEVER.

narciso,  March 4, 2010 7:51 AM

They saw those pics, and they were prompted to scheme something up, I mean Mo Dowd all the way in Arabia, is probably still fuming

section9,  March 4, 2010 7:52 AM

BTW, I agree with the take of the HillBuzz Guys: this allows Sarah to edit and control her content and presentation. If a net picks it up, she controls how she, as narrator, is rolled out to the country.

wisetrog,  March 4, 2010 7:52 AM

Which pics? :)

Just saw video of Mark Burnett and her walking around LA.
Even in the land of stars, where confronting the famous is considered boorish SP gets mobbed.
And yet, the GOP just can't find it in their best interest to support her. MAN are they lame.

Canary,  March 4, 2010 8:21 AM

Fantastic news.  Yes, I am among the people who love to hear from Gov Palin but absolutely dislike to see her kids on TV or any public except for Bristol who promotes teen abstinence.  I thought a TV series about Alaska is wonderful but her children don't have to be part of it. Gov Palin can be the narrator or being interviewed in the series, Ken Burns like series. It will be wonderful. If we have some series in which we can see Gov Palin talk regularly in the most serious, professional form, it will be wonderful. But NO REALITY SHOW PLEASE!!! When I heard the news I was shocked initially but I was confident she would never do that. And now I know it's true she does something wonderful!

Recently I had a chance to talk with a friend who never paid attention about politics. But she got an Alaska magnet on her frig.  She told me "when you get on a cruise to cruise Alaska, you WILL NOT BELIEVE the beauty of the scenery overthere. It's a must see state".  My next vacation destination will be Alaska.  I almost had an audit assignement in Juneau a few years back but it got changed.

Canary,  March 4, 2010 8:21 AM

in public

Canary,  March 4, 2010 8:23 AM

I adore Gov Palin's kids but in my opinion they should not be doing anything official in public.  Joining her along the trips when not busy with school is great though.  What I mean is to show up in anything for 'reality show'.

Rouger,  March 4, 2010 8:25 AM

Where is the Hollywood video, please?

AmeriCuda,  March 4, 2010 8:35 AM

I agree. I don't believe she'd ever involve the kids in any prominent/meaningful way. That would be a disaster. I have full confidence in her

AmeriCuda,  March 4, 2010 8:37 AM

It was on a morning show. Fox & Friends or Morning Joe. I'm sure it'll be on a loop all day.

What an excellent idea. It's about time Alaska was more appreciated, and noone is a better spokesperson for this great state than Sarah. Plus, she gets to promote drilling:  show the American people ANWR!!

I'm not happy if my tax dollars are supporting his soft-focus, kinder, gentler version of hardcore progressivism/liberalism.

CharterOakie,  March 4, 2010 9:34 AM

Yes.  She's already doing so and will do so increasingly, I'm convinced.

Journeyman,  March 4, 2010 9:40 AM

I also would like to apologize to everyone, I was mad last night because I could smell the Bull from a mile away about the substance of the Story and I was wondering why some here were "nervous" and worried that it possibly could be true. I understand everybody has passion for Sarah and what she stands for but after all Sarah has done since she step down from Office and after all of the things she has spoken about.....she would never "snatch that away so quickly" and for sure this is not some BLIND FAITH in a person, but she was truly honest when she said that she is seriously considering running for President, no one getting daily briefings is playing a game!!

CharterOakie,  March 4, 2010 9:41 AM

Highly recommend both Hannity's and Beck's interviews with her immediately after the FOX gig was announced, if you didn't already see them.

gardunne63,  March 4, 2010 9:46 AM

It's a brilliant idea of a show.  I agree with GAHason.  Why can't the suits at FNC figure out such a show instead of her making fleeting appearances to jack up the ratings of their moldy prime time figureheads?

However, I would like for Sarah to inject about ten minutes of "reality TV" into one of the episodes. She should be able to knock on the door at 666 Disgruntled Lane and shove a camera into the face of Ms Andrea McCleod at 6:00 am on the coldest Alaskan morning.      "Hey Andrea, I finally have a job for ya.  Our Foley guys need a coffee runner/errand girl.  Ten bucks an hour.  That's it gal. That's all I have for ya. But you can tell your friends in DNC land that you got to work for Mark Burnett!"

Dan C,  March 4, 2010 9:49 AM

Entertainment weekly says she would be a producer, which sounds perfect to me.

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby
Palin is pitching a TV show.

Washington (CNN) - Will Sarah Palin and her family be starring in a new reality television series? Not quite, a source close to the former Alaska governor tells CNN.
While Palin and famed reality TV producer Mark Burnett are in New York and Los Angeles this week meeting with six networks about a new series - a story first reported Wednesday by Entertainment Weekly - the source emphasized that the show would be a "Planet Earth-style" documentary about Alaska.
Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, will likely be featured in the show, the source said. But the source added that "it's not going to be focused on her family, or in her house, or in Wasilla.
"She is just going to use her name to help produce and promote the show," said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The source said Palin is following up on her promise last summer, when she resigned from the governor's office, to find new ways to shine a light on her home state.
"This is not 'The Osbournes Go North'," said the source, referencing the MTV reality show that featured Rock singer Ozzy Osbourne's family. "This is not a reality show based on the Palins."
