'Sarah Palin for RNC Chair' Chatter

After news hit that Michael Steele had 'stepped in it,' in regards to comments he made about the war in Afghanistan, many are calling on him to resign his post as the Republican National Committee Chairman.

Personally, I take exception to what Mr. Steele said that has landed him in so much hot water. He tried to write off Afghanistan as another one of Obama's failure's. He said, "has he not understood that, you know, that's the one thing you don't do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan? Everyone who has tried, over 1,000 years of history, has failed."

That war is far from over and it did not start on Obama's watch. I do not think it is productive to try to score political points off the backs of our men and women in the military, the same way the left did under Bush. The goal is to win in Afghanistan, and to win as a nation regardless of who is occupying the White House at the time.

Whether or not Mr. Steele steps down or is asked to do so, is still up in the air. Now the internet is buzzing with speculation and suggestions. One topic I have seen talked about much is the possibility of Governor Palin taking over as the head of the RNC.

Most notably, in this snobbish post over at NRO by Kevin D. Williamson titled, "An Idea for the RNC: Dump Steele, Hire Palin"

Re: Steele and the RNC: Allow me to chime in with my usual observation on this subject: This is a job for Sarah Palin. Palin would be a much better RNC chairman than presidential candidate or freelance kingmaker. She'd raise tons of money and help recruit good candidates, i.e., she'd excel at doing the things Steele should have been doing instead of appointing himself Republican pundit-at-large.

A Chairman Palin would help set the right tone for the Republican party without having to get herself entangled in the minutiae of policy-development, which has not been her forte. Sure, she'd be polarizing, but so is Barack Obama, and these are polarized times. And it's one thing to have a polarizing party chairman, another to have a polarizing candidate.

Anybody disagree?

I do! Not that I disagree that Palin would do a better job as the RNC Chair, but I happen to think she would make a great presidential candidate, and I happen to know for a fact that she is a fine "freelance kingmaker."

Mr. Williamson then goes on to say that while such a job for Governor Palin would be good due to her ability to raise money for them, it would keep her away from the "minutiae of policy-development" which he says "has not been her forte." Are you kidding me? What an utterly ignorant, yet typical response from a GOP establishment type. Perhaps Mr. Williamson is unfamiliar with Governor Palin's many public statements, both written and spoken in regards to all the issues facing this nation today, "minutiae" and all.

In fact, just last week she was praised by many, even within the GOP establishment for the recent speeches she has given. She posted the details of her fantastic appearance in Virginia to her Facebook page, if Mr. Williamson or anyone else from the establishment is interested in educating themselves on Governor Palin's actual positions. Feel free to check them out here, guys.

I have no idea what the future holds for the leadership of the RNC or Michael Steele. I also don't pretend to know what Sarah Palin would do if offered the position. That said, I do know that this has been another instance where GOP insiders have exposed themselves as willing to use Sarah Palin for fund-raising, yet downplaying who she is and what she stands for. The RNC is treading on thin ice right now. After years of selling out to positions supporting bigger government and more spending, the base has still not returned to the party in the numbers they should have. Treating Governor Palin with a lack of respect and an honest assessment of what she brings to the table will not help them any further. At this stage, I don't believe the RNC deserves Governor Palin's leadership, but that is just my opinion.

Boy.....anything to get Sarah out of the race...geeez

That's precisely it!

Kentucky Colonel, July 3, 2010 6:31 PM

I think it's a terrible idea. Sarah does not suffer fools gladly, and the RNC chair must do just that. I can't imagine that Sarah would make that move. Right now, she's got the best job for her. She can say what she wants, do what she wants, and she answers to no one.

I think Liz Cheney would be more suited for that job. Right now, the PAC American Crossroads (Rove & Ed Gillespie) are competing with the RNC for donors. If Cheney is in that chair, maybe Rove & Gillespie would stop stealing RNC donors.

Chris in Seattle, July 3, 2010 6:32 PM

You know how many times I've been advocating here at C4P or HotAir for Palin to chair the RNC? I think she can bring in a conservative dynasty in the House, Senate and Governor's mansions across the country.

I'm glad the conservative media is now taking this up at a more national level but frankly National Review sounds like they are taking it seriously not because Palin is the ideal leader of the GOP but because it would mean she won't run for President.

National Review for the most part are filled with guys who believe they are smarter than they really are.

Whitney the Pipsqueak, July 3, 2010 6:33 PM

Great post, Stacy. Yep, the boys want to pat little Sarah on the head and relegate her to being a mouthpiece and a fundraiser. It paves the way for Mitt and co. The thing is--Sarah is already the voice of conservatism and raises tons of money for candidates.

I've said it before, Steele ( or whoever may take his place) is the chair of the "please don't" wing of the party. Sarah is the chair of the "hell no" wing of the party.

dansnewplace, July 3, 2010 6:39 PM

I still think Newt or Mittens should take over the RNC- they're more "mainstream". How would Newt like being put in that box, or Mitt? I'm kind of glad that they thought of Sarah first because she certainly is capable, but their motivation for floating the idea sucks.

Kentucky Colonel, July 3, 2010 6:40 PM

Somewhat related, I think Steele's stupid statement has placed Sarah in a tough position. When others were blasting Steels for other past controversial statements, Sarah stood up for him. I don't think she will this time.

Chris in Seattle, July 3, 2010 6:42 PM

Exactly. Palin can create a conservative dynasty as far as winning elections if she was chairing the RNC. I don't like the motivations of the National Review for advocating this now when the appropriate thing to do is wait for the elections to run it's course in November and see how many seats are delivered before trying to drag Palin into that seat for the sake of protecting Newt Gingrinch or that used car salesman Mitt Romney.

Chris in Seattle, July 3, 2010 6:44 PM

I have a feeling (just a hunch) that unlike the other prominent members of the GOP Sarah will actually take the time out and call Michael Steele and hear what he said from the horse's head in it's proper context before she jumps on this issue because of the reason you just said. Sarah stood up for him.

MaxTruth, July 3, 2010 6:45 PM

Sarah is already the de facto head of the RNC. I'm all for her becoming the actual head for 4 months until the Nov elections.. Then she needs to start getting her campaign in gear.

Indemind, July 3, 2010 6:54 PM

Whitney....Your too KIND to call the boys, boys. I spent 6 years in the Vice Squad and it sounds like the boys are more like PIMPS trying to show off their best girl to make money for them. Like most PIMPS, they are spineless and misogynous and for the past two years that is what I have seen from the RNC.... JMHO.

Sarah, if you take time to read this blog, say....

"Thanks, but no thanks...."

Leave it to the folks over at National Review, Mittens' Fanboy Page, to bubble up this boomlet. They don't care about Palin straightening out the RNC. They just want to saddle her with a hopeless assignment so that the High and Mighties can ignore her.

Trust me. Thanks but no thanks. Only Clydes head the RNC. Nobody who wants to move up in rank has headed that graveyard since Bush the Elder in 1974 before Jerry Ford sent him to China.

They want you out of the race, Sarah. That's why they will come to you with this job. Don't be stupid. Don't take it. Pass it off. Tell them you have other obligations.

This is a transparent attempt by Jeb Bush and Mittens, Jeb's b**ch, to saddle you with a job herding cats.

Tell them you're busy doing something important, like Trig's diapers.

RINO-Hunter, July 3, 2010 7:03 PM

She'd certainly be capable, but there's no way she'd do it. It would damage her brand and "outsider" credentials more than it would help the RNC. The only place in DC she's interested in moving is the White House (whether it be as POTUS or a member of the cabinet) or maybe the Senate.

cookboy, July 3, 2010 7:04 PM

GREAT COMMENT!

GAHanson, July 3, 2010 7:07 PM

Something tells me that if she took the RNC chair, TLC might cancel her Sarah Palin's Alaska series. Besides, becoming the RNC chair would make her too much of an inside the beltway insider, that is definately a bad thing.

CBDenver, July 3, 2010 7:08 PM

Yep -- mooks is right.

section9, July 3, 2010 7:14 PM

Sarah, or Sarah's people (RAM, you know who you are..)

The people over at NRO are Mittens' Fanboys and are desperate to do something, ANYTHING, to derail Sarah Palin. If they bury Sarah in a cat herding job like the RNC, that's as good as killing her political career.

NOBODY who wants to do anything of substance in politics runs the RNC.

The last Republican to move up in rank was Bush the Elder in 1974, before Jerry Ford sent him to China as a consolation prize for being RNC Chair during such a toxic Republican year. Only Zombies chair the RNC.

The RNC in Washington is a Clown Confederacy that has done nothing but make the rank and file mad at the Party. The people at the RNC couldn't put the hearse in the right place at a two-car funeral and can barely tie their shoes. If they handed the RNC over to the interns, we might start winning an election or two, but not before. The State Chairs gave up on the Washington Party a long time ago and run their own affairs if at all possible.

This is a National Committee that would have serious trouble beating Hitler in Miami Beach.

Why would Sarah Palin want to become part of the problem?

Trust me on this if you trust me on nothing else: this smells of a transparent attempt by Jeb Bush and Jeb's faithful Sancho Panza, Mittens, to shove a problem to the side of the road so the Jebster can have a smooth ride to the nomination should The Family decide the Chicago Jesus is damaged goods.

Typical of the National Review to be the megaphone for the Establishment Wing of the GOP.

Al B., July 3, 2010 7:20 PM

Sarah Palin as RNC Chair....in other words, sit down and shut up, Beltway style. Gag me.

Steven, July 3, 2010 7:25 PM

It actually is not a bad idea. That is if Steele resigns today and the RNC places Palin in the job today ahead of the 2010 elections. She can make her contacts, raise money, get an insiders point of view, campaign around the nation, oppose Obama and do so with an official title. Right now in my humble opinion she is the de-facto leader of the opposition, unofficial Chairman of the Tea Party, and the most dynamic individual on the Right. Just making it official if it occurs now will not preclude her (has anything?) from seeking elective office, even as soon as 2012. Its really up to the RNC to determine whether they want this to happen. But I have no doubt that if asked, Palin will serve!

Steven, July 3, 2010 7:30 PM

Who better to change this than Sarah? And if they couldn't keep her down in Alaska, they won't running the RNC. It would be a tough job, but Sarah did in 2 years in AK, what governors could do in decades. So she is very capable of changing things quickly and moving on. I always look at the benefits and the opportunities and my post below outlines the pluses of RNC chair. My main point is that she is essentially doing RNC chair things now. With the Chairmanship she will have an official title. Either way it really doesn't matter with respect to her presidential ambitions. She can still run for office in 2012, especially with the new primary schedule and if she does a late entry in the race, which with her star power and name recognition she can afford to do. Right now before the summer is out, if she is offered the job, it wouldn't be crazy for her to accept. That's all I am saying.

Steven, July 3, 2010 7:31 PM

She won't throw him under the bus but she won't throw him a life line neither.

section9, July 3, 2010 7:33 PM

Fortunately, Palin is not as foolish as you take her to be. She would be blamed (by Mitt's people) for everything bad that went wrong at RNC. If fundraising targets were mysteriously missed, she would be blamed. Mitt-friendly state chairs would complain that she didn't return calls when she probably was assiduous about doing so. She would be under constant attack by the White House.

And of course, when some intern visited a strip club, guess who would be blamed: you guessed it-Sarah Palin.

This is a set-up. Trust me.

It takes a boatload of stupid to take this job. Palin doesn't have that characteristic.

narciso the harpoon, July 3, 2010 7:40 PM

She's already the strategist, they would have all rolled over for Romney I mean Obama care, if she would brought out the nightstick in August, or Cap n Trade would be farther along, instead of on life support, and for now, she 'doesn't' need a title,'

PEC, July 3, 2010 7:51 PM

What Steele said was stupid in a lot of degrees but let us face it the establishment never liked him and always wanted him gone. Now if they didn't like him what would they think of Sarah somebody they despise. They would stab her in the back more than they do now. No the best person for this job is Newt Gingrich. He is good at raising funds, is tight with the establishment and knows how to walk the political line. He could probably organize the party well. Would it take him out of the running for '12. Yes. But with all of his skeletons in the closet he could not win the General Election anyway (the MSM would hold back but once he won the nomination it would all go public). The plan from the establishmnet is to get Sarah in there, blast her at every angle and totally destroy her,
Oh isnt the Chairmanship up in like 6 months? Give me a break. Do we really need a strong RNC chairman? We have done fairly well with a damaged Steele for a 1/2 a year.

PEC, July 3, 2010 7:53 PM

Next to Gingrich would be Romney. Dont these same talking heads that say Sarah raises money well turn around and say Romney is so great at that? This is a Palin trap.

narciso the harpoon, July 3, 2010 7:59 PM

That reminds who did they get for the NRSC/NRCC dinner, that was a big deal around this time last year.

apodoca, July 3, 2010 8:02 PM

Stupid idea. It's purpose is to keep Obama in office after 2012 by preventing Palin from running against him. This is more of "the girl is good enough to rip into Obama but not good enough to replace him."

hrh, July 3, 2010 8:02 PM

Fire Steele, Hire Romney.

I mean, come on, isn't the word on the street that Romney's a GREAT fundraiser. And a GREAT businessman. And so ORGANIZED on the ground.

And he's REALLY good at working behind the scenes. So good, in fact, that for the past 18 months it's been "where's Romney?"

Romney would be the PERFECT RNC chair.

hrh, July 3, 2010 8:04 PM

Oh.

And I'm sure the Alaska Republican party leaders are laughing so hard they're crying at the idea that Sarah Palin would actually go Establishment Republican.

They certainly no that with Sarah Palin, it's country first, ethics next, and party last.

She's a Repub because of the platform, NOT because of the Establishment.

c4pfan, July 3, 2010 8:06 PM

You got it!

c4pfan, July 3, 2010 8:06 PM

I think it's the wrong idea myself.

c4pfan, July 3, 2010 8:08 PM

I agree Steven.

narciso the harpoon, July 3, 2010 8:08 PM

this is somewhat akin to the NY State Stalwarts who thought by putting TR as VP, they would get him out of the way, that was quite a miscalculation on their part

c4pfan, July 3, 2010 8:10 PM

Exactly. You think they wouldn't really go after Sarah taking over the RNC? She would be blamed for every idiot comment made in the South Carolina idiots, etc.

c4pfan, July 3, 2010 8:10 PM

Exactly. She would be blamed for everything while Steele got a pass forever until now.

c4pfan, July 3, 2010 8:11 PM

Yeah, why not Mitt?

Steven, July 3, 2010 8:15 PM

This is not worth arguing about, because I am not campaigning for her to have the job. I just said that if she was offered the job now and she accepted it would not preclude her presidential ambitions, no more than her resignation as governor of AK. I have no doubt no matter what she does she will be criticized and not get a fair shake. But in terms of turning the RNC around and bringing the passion and energy of the Tea Party into the RNC, who has better credentials to do that? She would aptly do the job, I have no doubt. If she is offered the job (which she won't be) and accepts its not an end of the world move. That's all I am saying.

c4pfan, July 3, 2010 8:18 PM

I would send a pic of Obama flipping the bird as a response.

ThomasLYN, July 3, 2010 8:18 PM

THE ONLY INVOLVMENT FOR Sarah and the RNC might be for her to help with finding a replacement for Steele.

Steven, July 3, 2010 8:19 PM

I actually agree that Mitt Romney of all people would be the best to fill this job. One thing we all know is Romney is an insider and can raise money. But if you want things shaken up that's a different story and a different sort of person should be chosen. If Palin decides to take the job she will do well and it won't preclude her presidential ambitions, if this occurs pretty much now.

Wildmanbill, July 3, 2010 8:22 PM

I dont think Sarah is to fond of the RNC herself right now. Look at all the mainstream candidates she keeps going against while finding the most conservative cadidates out there possible.

c4pfan, July 3, 2010 8:25 PM

Plus, she couldn't go out and do the speeches she wanted to without all that baggage.

sarah palin rocks, July 3, 2010 8:26 PM

Sarah doesn't stab her friends in the back whether it's Steele or McCain. Much ado about nothing - Steele isn't going anywhere as first black RNC Chair.

I agree with this Hot Air poster:

"I think Steele said it badly, but I get the impression that he meant that Obama made a big deal out of Afghanistan because he was demonizing Iraq and wanted to act as if the US was fighting the wrong war and was not fighting the right war the right way.
But Steele should have been more careful about what he said and how he said it.

Kjanlady, July 3, 2010 8:31 PM

I think that Rudy Guilani would make a good chair......"America's Mayor" would be a great messenger against the demoncrats......most Americans like and trust Rudy.........Sarah's not wired to be a cocktail party beltway Republican.......no way.

Kitty and I are settled down to an enjoyable evening watching the HBO series....John Adams......all seven parts one after another.....a fitting tribute to lead into the celebration of our country's independence....I especially like that the series portrayed Abigail as a strong, intelligent, independent-thinking woman.......kinda reminds me of someone else.

Luc, July 3, 2010 8:31 PM

Exactly. Wouldn't the little woman be great at shuffling paper and holding bake sales to raise money? Oh that idiots little post on his page was infuriating.

Luc, July 3, 2010 8:35 PM

Ellen, July 3, 2010 8:41 PM

C4pfan I would not say Steele got a pass. Frankly I've never seen a RNC Chairman attacked as much, by his own party. Maybe it is his fault and maybe it the in fighting, but to me it seems strange. I mean it's not really that important of a job, that folks should be demanding his resignation every time he says something stupid.

Howard Dean was amazingly obtuse and no one asked him to resign. Steele however seems to offend someone every few months.

I think being out of power is making Republican Party petty. Instead of rebuilding everyone seems to be fighting I mean look at Erik Erikson going after the NRA. This fighting is annoying.

techno, July 3, 2010 8:48 PM

On the anniversary of her resignation, the liberal elites and right wing establishment recommend Palin for RNC Chairman. That's like Sheliah Graham saying the in the heyday of Hollywood that Clark Gable should run MGM.

tim c, July 3, 2010 8:50 PM

Sarah already has a job er make that a purpose, and that is to save this nation and re-dedicate our faith in the Constitution. (NO PRESSURE SARAH) Saving the Republican Party is not her job but ours if we want it. I really believe Ken Blackwell is the BEST person for the job and believe he would step right in, if asked. I agree with all the rest of you that some people would like to get Sarah off the stage, any way they can.

techno, July 3, 2010 8:52 PM

Or for you younger folks thats like Howard Stern recommending that Michael Jackson head Motown records.

johnmd, July 3, 2010 8:55 PM

Horrible idea. (1) She would have to give up Fox job. (2) Would be no second book tour. (3) Would most likely end her personal speaking. Steele has already been in trouble with this the question being who was paid rnc or Steele. (4) This job would be in Washington, not a place Sarah wants to be yet. (5) As rnc chair she would be forces to support all republican canidates rinos included and required to remain neutral in local primaries. loss of fox and book and speaking income would be a serious handicap in building a serious personal war chest for a run of her own.

techno, July 3, 2010 8:59 PM

Sarah is only roughly 6,000 new members shy of adding 100,000 new Facebook members since June 21 early in the afternoon.

Do not even doubt that for one moment.

There are many, many men and women who are suited to service and management and there are very few men and women who are more suited to performing the public arena.

Such is a law of nature and a law of God. Would anyone dare make Einstein the head of some ceremonial post at a Research Institute, would anyone dare make Madonna into an actress (I wish they hadn't), would anyone try to make Shaq into a point guard, and would anyone be so stupid to make a Chicago-based community organizer the head of a foundation doling out money?

senator20526, July 3, 2010 9:23 PM

Sarah should recommend Mittens.....Call a presser and announce that she is 100% behind Mittens for RNC chair......Watch all the heads explode.....Pay back is beautifullllll

MarkRNY, July 3, 2010 9:24 PM

Lol--That would be like Geter agreeing to play shortstop for the Greensboro Bats (or the Cardinals).

This guy's a RINO Pin-Up--and he just spilled the beans! THEY know that if she runs, she wins the nomination! Who cares if you have a "polarizing" Repub Primary contender? "Polarization" (as per Reagan incidentally, who "Polarized" himself right into the WH and History) is supposed to kick in during the General--he's picked her as the nominee WHEN she runs! Hey Williamson--Be afraid! Chris, you don't understand Sarah. And, you don't understand what the role of the RNC head is. The National GOP wants to use Sarah to raise money, keep her away from the Presidency, and then continue the big-spending ways of Washington.

They are trying to slay her by getting her on board with the Rino agenda.

Sarah is WAY to wiley to take this kind of an offer, and it sets her radar off far too easily. She will instantly smell the ambush coming. A GOP ambush to marginalize her.

John.Glube, July 3, 2010 10:04 PM

Sarah Palin for RNC Chair? Hell No!

Sapwolf, July 3, 2010 10:06 PM

It would DESTROY her political future instantly.

She'll have none of it because there is no other GOP national politician that has what it takes to face the hardships in office from cuts in federal spending.

panchita, July 3, 2010 10:08 PM

Sarah is sitting in her gilded throne as Queen of the Tea Party and these bozo's come and offer her the rickety broken down 3 legged rnc chair. puhleeze.

Michael from Michigan, July 3, 2010 10:08 PM

To paraphase Sarah: "Thanks, but no thanks!"

Sapwolf, July 3, 2010 10:09 PM

Steven, your words are the words of Mittbots. Listen to yourself.

She is the only one that actually LOWER federal spending with a GOP Congress. Without her at POTUS, the GOP will NEVER reduce federal spending. NEVER.

SusanW, July 3, 2010 10:10 PM

Sarah knows the DC GOP is a garbage dump of scheming backstabbers...these are the same people, afterall, who were gleefully willing to let her take the blame for their intentional mishandling of her campaign wardrobe. These are the same people where the "anonymous voices" sneak in the shadows to spread lies about her to the media.

Dirty, dishonest, corrupt, unethical and mean-spirited...they would LOVE to get their hands on Sarah.

I expect it would be less than a week when the "anonymous" sources began working with their contacts at Politico and the Washington Times to report on all the imaginary Sarah controversies.

It gives me chills to think of it: Carl Cameron peeing in his pants as he talks to Bill O'Reilly, "I talked to someone, who shall remain anonymous, who is very high up at the RNC and they are shocked by her behavior. She comes in late, if she comes in at all...she's displays diva-like behavior...throws paper weights at the staff and...unbelievably, sometimes wears nothing more than a very small towel."

Sarah is smart enough to know these gutless goons are out to get her.

SusanW, July 3, 2010 10:11 PM

Washington Post...not Times.

palintologist, July 3, 2010 10:11 PM

When Ann Coulter gave her vote to Blackwell, that was good enough for me.

Sapwolf, July 3, 2010 10:12 PM

STEVEN! YO! If she accepted the job, she would be FINISHED politically. Stop the madness! Otherwise, it will be obvious you are a troll of somebody else.

Cut the nonsense. The people here can smell that foolishness miles away.

As soon as Sarah tooke the job, the GOP would engineer less donations to show she can't raise money and she'd be done.

NRO is working as a teammember with the establishment to stop her, and along with there the Tea Party Movement.

Sapwolf, July 3, 2010 10:13 PM

WRONG WRONG WRONG!

Time to check your past posts champ.

Sapwolf, July 3, 2010 10:15 PM

Actually, Mitt would fit the role. He is a moderate, a moneyman, looks good on TV, and the big donors like him. However, I think Gingrich would do even better.

Sapwolf, July 3, 2010 10:22 PM

Put it this way people, when I show up at the Lincoln Memorial with a big SArah poster and the 9/12 emblem on the other side AFTER Sarah takes the head of the RNC job, I would be drowned by the Tea Partiers in the reflecting pool before they pelted her with the Canadian Geese droppings all over the place.

UGLY. Very UGLY.

laslomo, July 3, 2010 10:22 PM

I like what she is doing right now; leading the charge to the 2010 voting booth.

In fact, does anyone know if Sheila Jackson Lee is on her hit list?

I just got back from a tea party rally hosting Apostle Claver "Leading America's 2nd Emancipation" with RagingElephants.org. I love the way he uses the Gospel to show us the way. If you have ever heard him speak, you know how great he is at getting a crowd to their feet.

Well, the next speaker was John Faulk. He is not a politician but he is running against Sheila Jackson Lee in the Texas 18th Congressional District. It sounds like he has a chance to beat her if he can raise enough funds and he also needs some ground support. You can check him out at FaulkForCongress.org. If he doesn't bet her, she will be the Next House Judiciary Chairman.

I wish Sarah would check this guy out if she hasn't already. We also had some people from TrueTheVote.org talking to us. Everybody needs to check this one out and sign up to do what you can in your own precinct. This is war and if we are not there to count the vote, it goes to the democrat and we deserve what we will get.

SusanW, July 3, 2010 10:22 PM

"Republican party without having to get herself entangled in the minutiae of policy-development, which has not been her forte"

Stick it up your snotty, flabby *#@, Mr. Williamson.

palintologist, July 3, 2010 10:24 PM

Sure, Mitt and/or Newt would be good fundraisers, but as for deciding on which candidates to throw $$ at, they're both RINOs. Isn't the job of RNC chair to vet candidates? None of these Beltway clowns even knows what a conservative is anymore. Who's the lady who started the Tea Party? Jenny Beth Martin? Not that she would want this thankless job, but someone like her would do a great job.

Sapwolf, July 3, 2010 10:24 PM

Sarah taking the RNC job would be like the lion Aslan giving himself up to the Ice Queen's minions to be tied up and knifed to death on that big rock table.

She's the Arctic Fox, not the dumb lemming.

The whole idea is infinitely insulting to her and I'm sure they are having a chuckle reading that NRO rookie column.

Sapwolf, July 3, 2010 10:25 PM

I was for Blackwell too. Why? I read that paper he put out and he gets it. He is also a conservative.

Lakerfanalways, July 3, 2010 10:35 PM

Isnt she already the head of the RNC..seriously, she does not need or want this job. This is all a ploy to have her shut up so that she wont run in 2012..that way she will be busy doing this. Sarah wants nothing to do with the RNC or the GOP, she has already said so saying she would no longer do fund raisers for them..get someone else to be RNC chair..Sarah doesnt need that job..she wants to be President, not RNC chairperson

bestbud, July 3, 2010 10:41 PM

Gov Palin for RNC chair?

Yes,yes,yes,yesyes,yes,yes,yes,yes
yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,
yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes.

I'm Mitt Romney and Approve this message!

miss vicki, July 3, 2010 10:48 PM

My guess is Haley Barbour. He's a good organizer and a good behind the scenes guy. Some chatter about a presidential run for him but it would be a real long shot. He would have some skeletons in his closet that would likely preclude a presidential candidacy.

narciso the harpoon, July 3, 2010 10:50 PM

She's all about 'Restoring Honor' and integrity, and sadly right now, Mos Eiseley has a better reputation

John.Glube, July 3, 2010 11:00 PM

FYI - my email to Mr. Williamson viz his blog post:

Dear Mr. Williamson,

Your blog post is offensive, not only to Sarah Palin, but to those who support Sarah Palin and to conservative women generally.

Why? Because of this line:

"without having to get herself entangled in the minutiae of policy-development, which has not been her forte."

This statement is typical of the smarmy, sexist and misogynist attitude that is prevalent within the Republican party establishment towards Sarah Palin and conservative women.

In essence you are saying that you want Mrs. Palin to pimp for the Republican Party, because she is too dumb to do anything else.

Well guess what? You can take your idea and stuff it.

Regards,

BRAVO!!!!!

palinsupporter, July 3, 2010 11:04 PM

OT but does anyone know when SarahPac will release their second quarter earnings?

c4pfan, July 3, 2010 11:09 PM

Exactly. I agree.

techno, July 3, 2010 11:15 PM

Now down to 5000.

RedDaveR, July 3, 2010 11:18 PM

Williamson is typical of the sort that populate the RNC. Sarah does not need any more people sticking knives in her back.

Asking her to do this job makes about as much sense as asking Peyton Manning to leave the playing field to work in the Colts' front office.

senator20526, July 3, 2010 11:19 PM

Sorry..he already has a job....Gov or Mississsippi

senator20526, July 3, 2010 11:20 PM

SusanW, July 3, 2010 11:20 PM

The station said they released Hannity because they wanted more "local programming"...BUT...according to Mediaite:

"the Salt Lake Tribune stuck with their story that Hannity’s content was a little too hot for KSL to handle: “Hannity got the ax because his mean-spirited banter was out of step with a new mission statement at LDS Church-owned media that demands its programming bring “light” and knowledge to listeners.”

In other words, "Hannity go the ax because HIS SUPPORT OF SARAH was out of step with a new mission statement at LDS Church-owned media that demands its programming bring "support" and promotion of Mitt Romney to listeners."

techno, July 3, 2010 11:23 PM

Watch Hannity now endorse Mike Lee, if he hasn't already.

Indemind, July 3, 2010 11:24 PM

John....Please see my reply on page one (1) of this thread.

sarah 2012

RedDaveR, July 3, 2010 11:26 PM

I think last time it was about mid-month, so I would start looking for the report in about a week to 10 days.

palinsupporter, July 3, 2010 11:26 PM

thank you!!!

Kjanlady, July 3, 2010 11:29 PM

Fred Thompson?????

frisky, July 3, 2010 11:29 PM

The "establishment" GOP are moderates and even liberal. They don't want Palin, because she is conservative! They fear her rise is their downfall! They don't care about the "people', they just care about their power and their jobs! It's us "We the People", that have to say who is the "power" of the GOP! We want conservatives, rino's need not apply or stay!

techno, July 3, 2010 11:30 PM

Translation:

We don't know what the hell is going on in Sarah's organization. We need someone of the inside or for Sarah to come in from the cold. How can we hit what we cannot see or catch?

Sarah to RNC: "Nuts"

gelston the knowitall, July 3, 2010 11:37 PM

This is the day when we celebrate the anniversary of Sarah crossing the Rubicon. The day she said "trust me." The day when most of us said that we would follow her.
And here you are with a discussion of telling Sarah what to do.
I trust her. I will support her through thick and thin.
When a door opens, and she goes through it. and I will follow.

God bless Sarah

Gelston, as was written in the Three Musketeers, all for one and one for all.

The threshold is near; we are about to cross it.

John.Glube, July 3, 2010 11:45 PM

Nope. The RNC is too tainted.

Yankee4SP, July 3, 2010 11:48 PM

Was so glad to see Stacy Drake's article.
I posted some hours ago similar thoughts on
Michael Steele which some did not agree with.

I too take exception to what Steele said.
Time to give a call to Ken Blackwell for RNC head.

John.Glube, July 3, 2010 11:50 PM

Yes, and your observation twigged the idea in my mind that those pushing for citizen Palin to be the head of the RNC wanted her to be their pimp.

Sarah Palin Made In The USA
Barack Obama Made In The Media

(h/t Izzy for the slogan)

techno, July 3, 2010 11:52 PM

Williamson reminds me of an editor of a newspaper who gives a cub reporter the obituary section to cover so he can find himself listed there one day.

gelston the knowitall, July 3, 2010 11:57 PM

Yogi Berra's wife asked him what type of funeral he would like. Yogi's reply? "Surprise me."

techno, July 4, 2010 12:04 AM

What is the main difference between Yogi Bear and Yogi Berra?

Their hat size.

techno, July 4, 2010 12:15 AM

What is the difference between a member of Obama's war room and a GOP elitist?

The former wants to hang Palin on the rack while the latter only wants to hang her out to dry.

techno, July 4, 2010 12:19 AM

If Palin took over the job of RNC Chairman it would be like Danica Patrick becoming a part of the pit crew, getting constantly blamed for not getting the car back on the track fast enough.

techno, July 4, 2010 12:21 AM

O/T:

Sarah now only 4000 new members away from hitting 100,000 new members on her Facebook since June 21st in the early afternoon.

Amaze830, July 4, 2010 12:52 AM

It is not a good idea for Gov. Palin to become RNC Chair for several reasons. First, it would restrict what she wanted to say on various issues. Secondly, it would give some people the impression that she is part of the Republican establishment. Thirdly, anything that goes wrong, such as other RNC members saying racist or sexist comments, she is going to get dragged into or get blamed for it.

Nicole (Edgy Conservative), July 4, 2010 1:03 AM

AMEN!

Luc, July 4, 2010 1:06 AM

You betcha!!!!

Luc, July 4, 2010 1:07 AM

LOL besides they couldn't pay her enough!!!!!!!!!

SarahFanUK, July 4, 2010 5:24 AM

No! Total waste of her immense talent and besides she has way more important things to do.

miss vicki, July 4, 2010 10:35 AM

I think his term is almost up and I believe he is term limited from runnig again

Anonymous, July 4, 2010 12:46 PM

If Sarah "does not suffer fools gladly", how does she stand to look at herself in the mirror every morning?
I'm just sayin'..............

ThomasLYN, July 4, 2010 2:14 PM

No RNC for Sarah she is smarter than to fall into that trap.

Sapwolf, July 4, 2010 3:49 PM

Excellent analogy.

Sapwolf, July 4, 2010 3:59 PM

I have to admit that when she said "Trust me." that did it for me. I might be slow to get up-to-speed on her reasoning or that of her team when making a decision, and not know all the facts, but I have never doubted her insticts or strategy relative to what I see other politicians do.

Not only is her vision, life, beliefs the perfect balance of what the country needs in its next leader, she has the diligence and courage to communicate truths to the American people that they may not want to hear. And example is how we must reduce federal spending, cut taxes, and reduce the influence of the federal government in those areas that are not specified in the Constitution.

Her decision to resign and protect the executive branch of the Alaska state government and the people of Alaska, outflanking Rahm Emanuel and Obama & Co., and thereby freeing herself to step up to the national stage and fight the Statists and Dems could go down as one of the most daring, intelligent, and courageous political moves in US history.

Turbodog, July 5, 2010 12:34 AM

Exactly.
