This is interesting. Apparently the left-wing nut job who went berserk yesterday in Arizona had been obsessed with Congresswoman Giffords for years:
Accused gunman Jared Lee Loughner appeared to have been long obsessed with U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
A safe at Mr. Loughner’s home contained a form letter from Ms. Giffords’ office thanking him for attending a 2007 “Congress on your Corner” event in Tucson. The safe also held an envelope with handwritten notes, including the name of Ms. Giffords, as well as “I planned ahead,” “My assassination,” and what appeared to be Mr. Loughner’s signature, according to an FBI affidavit.
Federal authorities charged Mr. Loughner on Sunday with two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and a count of attempting to kill a member of Congress, during a scheduled public appearance by Ms. Giffords here Saturday. More charges are expected, officials said, and Mr. Loughner, age 22, remains in federal custody.
Mr. Loughner had complained to a friend about how he was treated by the Arizona lawmaker during an event several years ago, which aggravated Mr. Loughner, according to the friend.
So, Loughner had “planned ahead” for the “assassination” of Congresswoman Giffords, apparently since he met her in 2007 which, I’m compelled to point out, was long before anyone had ever heard of Governor Palin or the Tea Party. The left can continue tying themselves in knots trying to exploit yesterday’s senseless violence for political gain, but the more information that comes to light, the more obvious (and pathetic) they look. Indeed they are now, incredibly, using the shootings as a fundraising gambit.
Clearly the Left is treating this tragedy as nothing more than a political opportunity but, unfortunately for them, it will backfire in their face. With each new fact that comes to light, it’s increasingly obvious that this was a tragic act of violence by a seriously ill young man. Any attempt to link this senseless act to Governor Palin, the Tea Party, or, for that matter, the Loch Ness Monster, is patently ludicrous on its face.
Update: (h/t J&S Rife) Fox News has posted a copy of the FBI complaint against Loughner, which also indicates Loughner had been planning his rampage since 2007.
