Joe Biden: Those Concerned About Nation’s Unsustainable Debt are ‘Like Terrorists’

Via the Politico:

Vice President Joe Biden joined House Democrats in lashing tea party Republicans Monday, accusing them of having “acted like terrorists” in the fight over raising the nation’s debt limit.

Biden was agreeing with a line of argument made by Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) at a two-hour, closed-door Democratic Caucus meeting.

We have negotiated with terrorists,” an angry Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.”

Biden, driven by his Democratic allies’ misgivings about the debt-limit deal, responded: “They have acted like terrorists,” according to several sources in the room.

Biden’s office declined to comment about what the vice president said inside the closed-door session.

Earlier in the day, Biden told Senate Democrats that Republican leaders have “guns to their heads” in trying to negotiate deals.

So, if I understand Biden (and Doyle) correctly, trying to prevent the nation’s rapid descent into fiscal bankruptcy is comparable to Osama bin Laden’s activities or something. I’m tempted to chalk this up as just another of Biden’s many rhetorical flourishes, but it has become a pattern in recent days as quite a few leftys, such as the New York Times, Politico, and Time, have tried to make this ludicrous analogy.  And for what?  Because Tea Partiers don’t think it’s a great idea for the government to continue adding $4.5 billion to the national debt every day?  The current deal negotiated by “leaders” of Congress gives Obama a green light to run up roughly $2.4 trillion in  more debt over the next 18 months, and in excess of $7 trillion over the next decade.  Entitlements, the real drivers of the debt and deficits, are virtually ignored by the deal.

And this is terrorism?  If liberals call a woefully inadequate plan to marginally slow the growth of federal debt terrorism, imagine what they’d call real fiscal responsibility such as, gasp, a balanced federal budget.  The real terror will occur when those entitlement programs go bankrupt and those who count on them are left out in the cold. If this happens, it will occur simply because liberals eschewed their responsibility to govern in favor of pulling the wool over beneficiaries’ eyes by telling them these unsustainable programs can go on forever with no meaningful reforms, and that anyone who says otherwise wants to kill grandma.  But then, what do Biden and Congressional liberals care when they don’t participate in these programs anyway?

Update: (h/t BK) Biden is now claiming he didn’t say the word “terrorists”, but as Allahpundit points out, the Politico piece mentioned “several sources”…all Democrats.  And we are, after all, talking about Joe Biden.
